Crime Alert, hourly update, breaking crime news now.
I'm Jennifer Gould.
A horrifying incident in Texas when a mother confronts her adult son about his suspicious
behavior and discovers a gruesome scene.
That mother reportedly walked outside of her home and noticed her son, Richard Branner Osmond, 36,
standing outside looking visibly sweaty and agitated. Concerned, the mom tried to walk
around her son but was blocked by the 36-year-old. As she again tried to navigate around him,
the woman reportedly noticed a human foot near an RV on the property. She followed the trail of blood and discovered the badly
wounded body of 38-year-old Michaela Brooker. Shocked and terrified, the woman runs back to
the house, alerts her husband, who immediately then calls 911. China Spring first responders
arrive at the scene and found Brooker suffering from extensive injuries, including multiple stab wounds to the
head. Authorities say a machete-like weapon was used to inflict all the wounds. Brooker was
airlifted to the hospital, but tragically died of her injuries. Meanwhile, Osmond took off from the
scene. Here's Sheriff Parnell McNamara talking to the media at the news conference. This is one of the most horrific, horrible, brutal, senseless attacks that we have seen in a long time.
After a 10-hour search using drones, canines, helicopters and officers on horseback,
authorities finally found him hiding in a stock tank near the crime scene.
Osment was arrested and charged with murder. Sheriff McNamara
said at the news conference that this is a murder that did not have to happen. He blamed the parole
system that allowed Osment to be released after serving only 10 years of a 40-year sentence for
previous crimes, including aggravated sexual assault, terroristic threats and burglary. The motive
for the murder remains unclear, but authorities have confirmed that it was a domestic disturbance.
Brooker leaves behind a young son. Osment is being held at the McLennan County Jail on a
$1 million bond. The investigation is ongoing. I'm Nicole Parton. Two people have been arrested after being accused of trying to sell their two-month-old baby
for $1,000 and a six-pack of beer.
This all went down at an Arkansas campground.
According to the probable cause report, Darian Urban, 21, and Shaleen Ellers, 20,
the baby's parents, were arrested by the Benton County Sheriff's Office.
The couple is facing charges of endangering the welfare of a minor
and attempting to commit consideration for relinquishing a minor for adoption.
Police say deputies responded to the campground after a person called saying that
parents were trying to sell their two-month-old baby for beer and a cashier's
check of a thousand dollars. Also, the caller told authorities the baby was in need of medical care.
When police arrived, the baby was taken to the hospital and the parents had already left the
campground. According to WPV-TV, witnesses showed the investigators a document that stated the parents intended to sign over their rights to the child.
That same witness also had a cell phone video of the couple signing the letter, the contract to get rid of their child.
As the investigation unfolded, witnesses said the baby had been given to someone else at the campground the night before in exchange for beer.
But later later the baby
was passed off to yet another person for money. The couple were located by police during the
interview, said the baby was with someone who, quote, adopted him in exchange for money and beer.
A woman who wishes to remain anonymous says she's a grandparent to the baby. She spoke to Fox 6.
It's that they don't deserve to have any kids. They're going to be like that. You know,
I would have took the kids. They didn't have to go and do that. They didn't want them. The
last thing they would do is bring them here and I would have took them. The couple have each been
released on a $5,000 bond. The baby is in the care of the Arkansas Department of Children and
Family Services. I'm Drew Nelson. A 20-year-old
man is arrested for the fatal shooting of a college student on the University of Arizona campus
after a fight erupts on the campus volleyball courts. Authorities arrested Ryan Romero Encinas
at an apartment complex in Tucson Wednesday afternoon. He's charged with first-degree
murder and the death of 19-year-old Minhaj Jamshidi, who was shot multiple times during a confrontation late Sunday night.
Romero Encinas was taken into custody without incident and is being held against a $1 million bond.
Jamshidi's mother, Freshta Jamshidi, shared her grief speaking to KGUN through a translator.
She come here from Afghanistan to have a good life for all the kids and she wants justice. The deadly
incident happened just before 11 o'clock Sunday night near the Arizona Sonora residence hall.
According to witnesses, the shooting took place during an argument between two groups near the
volleyball courts. What started as a heated exchange escalated quickly into violence with
up to 30 people involved in the fight and as many as 100 people in the area. Jamshidi was pronounced dead there.
The sudden loss of Jamshidi has left a deep impact on his family, friends, and the local Afghan community.
His funeral was held on the same day that police arrested Romero and Sinas.
Jamshidi's wrestling coach recalled meeting Jamshidi and his younger brothers after they had arrived from Afghanistan.
He invited the brothers to join his wrestling club, and Jomshidi quickly became a dedicated member.
The coach told KGUN the teen was, quote,
sunshine in human form.
Jomshidi's journey to the U.S. was filled with hope.
His family fled Afghanistan in 2021 after the U.S. withdrawal,
and they settled in Tucson.
Tucson Unified School District's Refugee Student Services
had worked closely with the Jomsheedy family,
helping them adjust to their new life in a new country.
As the Afghan community in Tucson mourns the loss, they also expressed their disbelief over the senseless tragedy.
A friend mourned the fact that shootings were part of life in Afghanistan, and they thought they were safe here.
Court documents reveal that if convicted, Romero Encinas faces life in prison.
The investigation into the case is ongoing, and further hearings will determine whether he will
remain in custody without bail. For the latest crime and justice news, follow the Crime Alert
