Hey, everyone. Welcome back to Crime Weekly News. I'm Derek Lavascer. And I'm Stephanie Harlow.
And we have a beat on the lookout for today.
This is, the date right now is January 23rd when we're recording this.
That's important.
We get a lot of DMs from you guys, a lot of emails, a lot of messages.
And we can't cover everything, but sometimes something will come across the desk where it's like, okay, maybe we can help here.
So I received a DM from Christy.
I won't say her last name.
Thank you, Christy for sending this over.
I was not aware of this.
And I'm just going to read exactly what she wrote.
She wrote, Derek, have you seen the Dan Davis story on social media?
He went missing near Chicago.
his daughter has been going viral on social media with his story.
He appears to have a medical episode, possibly a stroke or something, and then went outside in his car.
He got into a car accident, refused medical help.
Cop dropped him at a bar he works at, and she has on parentheses, this is all on body cam.
Then he was seen wandering on people's ring doorbells.
Now he is missing since November.
This is a very interesting story.
Christie, again, thank you for sending it.
Sometimes with Crime Weekly News, that's exactly what this is for.
So yes, he's been missing since November.
Hopefully, after we're covering it, maybe someone out there has information.
Yeah, and these are good cases.
And this is why we love you guys, because I was just telling Derek earlier, like, it sucks when you kind of like see what's trending.
You just get the same stuff.
Like, oh, Brian Coburgers Lawyers are saying this again.
Luigi Mangione.
He's back in the news.
And it's like, okay, we don't want to keep talking about these people over and over again.
Like, we actually want to make a difference.
So we want to be able to help somebody and helping Dan Davis, hopefully, and his family,
or attempting to or at least getting the word out because I would have never known about the story
if she had a message to.
So here's the details that we know.
It looked like it was November 26, 2025 that Dan's family realized he was missing.
And so as we heard in the message, he did get into an accident.
This is all on body cam.
And his daughter, Wendy Davis, said that, you know, the deputies had cleared Dana being intoxicated at the crash scene.
But then they brought him to 115 Bourbon Street.
This is a nightclub where Dan actually worked as a lighting and production technician.
And even when he was inside, because we know he got an accident.
So once again, we know that the police gave him a sobriety check because that's what they're going to do if you get into a car accident.
So he's inside the nightclub after getting cleared at the accident and saying he's not intoxicated.
and he's disoriented. He's bumping into bar stools. He doesn't seem to notice. So this guy,
Kenny Bresh, who's worked with Dan for decades, he said, you know, he's not walking normal,
he doesn't look to be acting normal. Something happened. You know, what could have happened.
So we have a timeline here where the head-on collision happened in front of the Garden Homes Fire Department
at 11.15 p.m. on November 24th, 2025. It looks like since he wasn't intoxicated,
It's likely Dan may have suffered from a head injury while in that accident.
But he and the other driver, they both refused medical treatment.
So Dan's car was towed.
The police gave him a ride back to the club where he's worked for 25 years.
And that's when we see him inside.
He's bumping into stools.
People who know him and have known him for a while think he's not acting properly.
And then at 1.15 a.m., he's last seen in person leaving the club.
At 7.30 a.m., the next day, he's captured on video walking through a yard.
at Des Plains and Gregory and hitting his head on the sidewalk. So definitely a head injury here.
Then at 3 p.m., he showed up on Western Avenue, Old Western Avenue, and he was asking people
how to get to Bourbon. So obviously he's trying to get back to the place where he works. He was
headed east on Long Grove Avenue towards Old Western Avenue when he was seen. At 4.20 p.m.,
he was captured on surveillance at 127th in Greenwood, walking around and looking into the bed of a
truck at 6 p.m. he was captured at 1 at 27th and Kedzi at the pilot gas station. He's got a
bloody face at this point. Now we move to November 26th. And November 26th was when his family
realized he would be missing. So at 635 p.m. on November 26th, he was seen on camera at St.
Donateau's Church in the 1900 block of South Union Street in Blue Island. This is the last
confirmed sighting of Dan. Dan's 59 years old. We're going to put a picture of him up here so you
can see him. He may be disoriented and in need of medical attention, but at this point,
it's a little concerning because his cell phone pinged last on November 22nd, 2025. So even
before he's been seen on surveillance, it probably, I would say Derek at the battery died.
There's been no activity on his credit or debit cards since he went missing. And we're moving
into the third week of January here. And he hasn't been seen since, you know, late November.
So this is kind of, and it's been cold out there, too.
And it's been very cold and this is very concerning.
So I'm sure the police have checked hospitals.
I'm sure the police, I mean, this is what you would do in a situation like this, right?
Call the hospitals, call the morgues, things like that.
You would do that as police officer if you had a man who was missing.
Yeah.
So I'm sure they've done all that.
Check the homeless shelters as well.
And even maybe some mental health facilities that might take people in things like that.
But it doesn't look like anybody's found him.
And so you have to wonder what happened.
to Dan, did he encounter a foul play? If something happened to him and it wasn't at the hands of
somebody else, you'd think he would have been found by now. Did somebody take him in? But if so,
I mean, this story has been over local news in the Chicago area. So why has nobody said anything?
So Dan is, like I said, 59 years old, he's white male. He's balding, gray hair, brown eyes.
He's 5'8 weighs 170 pounds. And the last time he was seen who was wearing a black Harley-Davidson
jackets and a red sweatshirt, black jeans, and a black baseball cap. And I think that Harley-Davidson
jacket, as long as he would still have it on is probably a very noticeable thing. That kind of sticks
out in your head. If you're not on YouTube, now would be the time to go over there.
Give you a clear look at it. Yeah, I mean, listen, there's a couple, there's a couple videos or a
screenshot that we have in a video. So the video, which is on your screen right now, is just a small
clip of the body cam footage. And you can see very quickly that Dan's walking. He kind of
steps off the curb there.
And in this photo, he has everything that Stephanie just described.
Now, fast forward to the screenshots that we have, there's two different images.
There's one, what appears to be, it kind of almost looks like a backyard.
There's like a fire.
There's like a grill there.
There's little pit and there's some cars.
This is the residential area, yeah.
Yeah, he's now missing his hat at this point.
You can't really see too much.
It's a clear photo, but it's kind of the back of them.
It doesn't look like there's any more injury to the back of his head.
And then there's another more blurry photo, which, again,
It's from the front side, but you can't see a ton.
In that image, he looks, from what I can see, pretty disheveled.
But again, what does that mean?
Is he going somewhere?
Is he meeting up with someone that we're unaware of?
And listen, I wouldn't lose complete hope yet if I were a dance family.
I talked about it, I think, on Crime Weekly before, but I had a case many, many years ago
when I was a sergeant and we had a report of an old man drinking out of someone's water hose.
in the backyard of this property.
And Parker Street, for anybody who's from my area,
we'll know what I'm talking about.
Now, to be honest with you, this area,
this was an old white dude,
not what you would typically find in this particular area.
So that was number one that stood out to us.
And when I asked him, you know,
what he was doing there, he said,
oh, you know, I'm just around the corner.
I was just visiting some friends and I got a little lost.
So we realized very quickly that there was something off mentally
and that he needed assistance.
but he wasn't like injured.
So we had the firefighters check him out.
They basically cleared him.
And so I brought him to the police station.
And he had his wallet on him.
He was able to figure out his first name.
He didn't have his ID on him.
And he had a phone.
We charged the phone, which was dead.
He said he had his wallet, but not his ID.
Nope, no ID.
Just something with his name on it.
It was like a card or something that said like, you know,
I'm not going to say his name here just in case,
but his first name.
And so then we got his phone.
charged his phone and I was looking for something that said like daughter or son, nothing.
So then I just went to his recents and I saw a woman's name.
So I called it.
But I called it from the police department, not his phone, which to this day I don't know why I did that.
But I did.
And I called the phone.
Young woman picks up and hello.
Mikeai, how you doing?
My name's, you know, Sergeant Derek Levastor.
I'm calling from Central Falls, Rhode Island.
I was wondering if you knew a guy named so and so.
and there's like a pause.
No,
nothing on the phone.
She goes,
yes,
yes,
I know him.
And I'm like,
oh,
he's sitting right next to me.
And she goes,
wait,
what?
I go,
he's sitting right next to me.
We just found him here.
She goes,
wait, wait,
wait,
where are you?
I go,
oh,
Central Falls,
Rhode Island.
And she's like,
how did he get there?
I'm like,
I don't know.
Where are you located?
She's like,
I'm in Long Island.
Jeez.
So to make a long story short,
this gentleman
had been missing
for multiple weeks.
His family thought the worst.
And he basically got in his car one day in New York, started driving and obviously had some
underlying issues that hadn't been treated yet and completely forgot where he was going,
who he was, and just basically drove around New York and then up toward Rhode Island and
it ended up in Central Falls.
And luckily, we found him.
His family showed up.
I actually waited for them to arrive.
I was off duty.
And it was a crazy moment.
They were so excited to see him.
And yeah, so they thought the worst and it turned out, it turned out to be okay.
So she thought when you called, you were calling to tell her.
To tell him she, that we had found him, he was dead.
I'm concerned because he doesn't have a car.
Yes.
He's walking around, like you said, it is cold, clearly a head injury.
And I'm not a medical expert.
Obviously, I'm not a doctor.
Right.
I would want to know with this kind of head injury that's causing somebody to, that they
would maybe get in a car accident because he had a head on collision, are you, when it's causing this
much disorientation, it's causing you to keep falling because, you know, we saw him fall once
and hit his head again, which is not something you want to see. And then later we see him with
the bloody face. So he's not doing well. But then again, you know, if you're just walking around
and then you would maybe pass away from a concussion or something like that, your body would be right
there. So maybe he found somebody who was nice and he was like, oh, can I get a ride? And
They did take him out of town and now he's wandering around some other town.
I would hope that we would have sightings of him by now.
I'd hope that somebody would know something.
And in Chicago in general is not a great place crime-wise to be lost and not with your senses.
Yeah, he could be the victim of a crime for sure.
The only thing that gives me a little hope is the fact that we haven't found him.
And that's not a good thing, but also kind of a good thing.
The fact that he hasn't turned up anywhere no longer with us.
So there's still a little bit of an inkling of hope there that he's out there somewhere.
I agree, yeah.
But it's a big mystery, honestly, because if somebody were to mug him, let's say for his phone or his money,
they wouldn't go to a whole bunch of lengths to hide his body, right?
Probably just leave him where he was.
So that's why I'm hoping that maybe he found shelter somewhere and he's hiding out because it was cold.
I'm really concerned.
I want everybody who's in the Chicago area surrounding suburbs and really any.
Especially by this point.
Keep a look out if you, it's like what police say sometimes, but if you have like outbuildings on your property, sheds, barns, things like that, maybe just give them a quick look just to just make sure Dan's not in there hiding out from the cold.
This was January 14th.
I have an update on a Facebook page and it says they had their most extensive search efforts yet.
They're deeply grateful to the Cook County Forest Preserve Police because they coordinated in operation alongside the Illinois, Wisconsin search and rescue dogs.
So they had 10 cadaver dogs, canine units, and thermal drones,
searching the river, rail yards, wooded areas throughout Blue Island and surrounding communities.
They didn't find it, but once again, they are saying as winter weather approaches,
we're asking our neighbors across Blue Island, Marionette Park, Evergreen Park, Oak Lawn, Midlothian, Juliet,
Crestwood, Shorewood, Allsip, Posen, Robbins, Dixmore, Columet Park,
Mount Greenwood, and other nearby areas.
So those are the surrounding areas to check.
Parking lots, garages, rail yards, tow yards, recycling facilities, alleys, shed, storage units,
boats, landscaping areas, and properties around homes and businesses.
And then it says if you have any information, please contact the Chicago Police Department at 312747-8-24-4 or missing in America tip line, which is 844-M-I-A lost.
Actually, that's a very smart tip line.
8-4-4-M-I-A lost.
I've never heard of that before.
That's amazing.
So Shannon will put those up on the screen for you guys.
Please keep a lookout for Dan Davis if you're in the area or honestly anywhere at this point.
I know as we're filming this, it is Friday before a very big historic cold front and storm
rolls into the East Coast.
So please check out for Dan.
Thank you guys so much.
Yeah, absolutely.
I concur with everything, Stephanie said.
Also add had this happen a couple times, I don't know if they're just not putting it out
publicly, but if Dan had any issues with substance abuse, sometimes I have found missing
people in areas where that takes place where they could be, you know, held up in a house
somewhere, just kind of keeping shelter, which is not ideal, but it's better than the alternative.
So everywhere is a possibility. Keep it on your radar. Our thoughts are with the family. We hope that
we have news, good news sooner than later. That's really all we have. The only thing I'll add is,
again, a lot of people were mentioning to me, CrimeCon. If you have already signed up, you can
