I'm Dan Casey, and we're We're gonna break down the latest Goblin Mode in just a moment, but first let me introduce my amazing cast. Danielle Radford, Amy Borpaul. Jason Wynn.
Starting point is 00:01:43 All right, folks, we are in the end game. We are going to get into some major spoilers for Goblin Mode. So, if you haven't watched or listened to the latest episode yet, please go back and avail yourself of whatever ways easiest for you to listen or consume this story. We don't want to ruin it for you. Okay? It's your last chance. Let's get into it.
Starting point is 00:02:04 So, um, did anything? happened this episode? Yeah, I can't think of a single thing. Filler. Kind of love. Yeah, there's definitely, especially with y'all leveling up to level four, where it's just like, oh yeah, like you actually do get like pretty powerful, the new spells that you've gotten.
Starting point is 00:02:21 Those took me a little bit by surprise. Also, I will say I have laden you with magic items. You are belated with magic items. And some of them, I'm just like, oh, oh, yeah, oh, yeah. Why did I give them that? The whistle of the march was really clutched. I was waiting for that to come back. So before we did this, normally I'd be like,
Starting point is 00:02:42 oh, it'd be like a really fun thing to like throw on. But then I was like, oh, if I do this, that also means I'm not the one who suddenly asked to do 10 pirate voices. So I was like, hey, Amy, I just want to remind you, I do have the whistle of the march just so you know. Because again, it's like, I don't know when it's going to come up. But again, if I do decide that I want to pull that trigger,
Starting point is 00:02:59 that is 10, 10 pirate pollicule voices that it is. now have to like remit. So I was like, I obviously, and that's why I didn't want to, I took Amy aside because I was like, I know it's fun to have the surprise of it. And I was like, well, I'm not gonna tell the dudes and that way we can still get like a genuine response. And then you wound up being like, oh no, I know about whistles.
Starting point is 00:03:19 I remembered that you got it and I was like, well, this seems like the time we gotta use it. Yeah, this is it. There's like two episodes left. Yeah. We gotta get that thing in play. Because there's a strong chance we're going to leave this plane of existence
Starting point is 00:03:32 for the final episode. So I was just like, I don't think the airship can go to Eun-Zook's mansion. They're probably not within 100 miles of the other plane. Yeah. So we had that on deck, and I was like, so when you mentioned, I was like, okay, cool, because, like, this way. Well, I think all of the magic items got used in this episode. We had the chalice got used twice, once for its original purpose and once for a magic key. And then your...
Starting point is 00:04:01 I used the staff of Rollbear. We got it. We got a towel on this. He used the tattoo last time, though. Describe. The tattoo hasn't been used this episode, but yeah, last episode. And then you have the tree. Have you used the luckstone yet?
Starting point is 00:04:13 I, no, I haven't had to. No, yeah, no D20 rolls yet. Not just yet, yeah. Not just yet. And then what else we have? Am I scope? Oh, yeah, your scope? We learned a very big thing, which is Eunzug's really good.
Starting point is 00:04:27 We sniped his personal details. Yeah, what do you think about that name? I love that you. So lame. Yeah. Oh, I know. Cordare Babelbrook. No, I think it's like a nice, gentle name,
Starting point is 00:04:38 but it is definitely like if you found out that the scourge and terror that you've always been, like, scared of, his real name was like, Bob, you might have a reaction to it. Yeah. When you... Yeah, that's everything that, like,
Starting point is 00:04:53 oh, here's a magic item, and here's a magic item. It's like, ha, ha, ha, that'll be fun. And then you just, like, in the most inopportune time, I think, for me, you know, and it's like, you just heard Unzzer go, oh yeah, names have power over people. Well, they kind of do.
Starting point is 00:05:06 And you're like, interesting. Interesting. Sort of guns. Yes. That was really clutch. Big move there. Which is great because, like, Tippy, Tippy did make it. He was like, oh, I've been telling everyone my name, but you haven't.
Starting point is 00:05:19 You've been giving out fake names the entire. Oh, yeah, yeah. Of all of us, you've given your actual name the least. I guess there is. I'm Rippie. Gun Tippy, you're right. It all feels like it's the same. Tippy, speaking of Unzug and Tipi.
Starting point is 00:05:33 and Tippy, though, Tipy had some absolute bangers this episode. He was cooking in their conversation. When he said, honestly, big loser activity not getting into Wizard College. My favorite, though, was, you're not a god, you're a disappointment. That was just, like, cutting.
Starting point is 00:05:52 I think it was really, like, talking from, like, the heart for Tippy, which is just, like, he really did look up to this guy. If you really think about it, like, Tipy needs a father figure, really, in his life to set him on the right path. And I think Unzig may have come the closest next to, it would be like Maxwell and then Unzug. And so just to find all of these sort of like people of power parental figures in his life, just really let him down.
Starting point is 00:06:20 It's like he's going to tell the truth finally and be like, you are disappointed to me. But really, so that it would buy him time as this forced prison started to dissipate. I needed to yap it up with him. I love that you clocked like stalling is going to do you some favors. And then it did. I mean, it worked. It was disintegrating. And then Phibs had the final blow, which is, yeah, I mean, it was just undeniable.
Starting point is 00:06:46 Look, the chance to use Eunzug's staff against him was just too satisfying to me to avoid. And now this is both. The Misty Set plus the staff use. That is the most legendary move. I've ever seen. There's a version where you just turn into a tree. And it's like, okay, I guess we'd get out of the way of the tree. To have a 40-foot birch fall on top of you.
Starting point is 00:07:12 Well, it was the single funniest thing I've read in a magic item description in a long time. Like, well, you can turn into a big snake, a little snake, the staff itself, or a 40-foot tree. And I'm like, well, I need to turn into a tree. So I didn't. Yeah, what is with that? Why? This is why. is why, because some of my favorite magic items are feather, tree, feather, anchor,
Starting point is 00:07:39 and then feather the other one. Like, there's just these feathers that are just like, here's a feather, it does something. And it can anchor a ship, like you just throw the feather, and now the ship can't leave for 24 hours, and it's just like, well, that's that. But tree is like, and it's a druid staff. So, Robert is of, I can't remember, who is this? Robert, Sadoff? Yes, I believe Sadoff.
Starting point is 00:08:03 Okay, so Rolbert is the champion of Sadov and Sadov is the sovereign of nature and I was like, well, what of the feather things could be a tree? And I was like, well, whatever. Also, the magic item is taken from almost identical to the staff of the python where you can turn into a snake, a big old snake. Yeah, I don't mind turning into a snake. It just made me laugh. I wanted to change it a little bit and I just, I'm such a fan of the feather magic item,
Starting point is 00:08:27 so here we go. It just made me laugh and I'm like, well, I 100% need to find a satisfying way to turn into a tree. Yeah, it had to happen. It had to happen. And as we know, like, this is something that happens with Theodore of the Mind. You have one thing in your head. The DM has the actual thing in her head and written down. Yes.
Starting point is 00:08:47 And I envisioned it. I did not quite understand. Yeah, what was the plan? It was the original plan in your mind. So I thought this was like maybe a 30, 40 foot tall room. And I'm like, okay, I'm gonna like Banff up to the ceiling, like Nightcrawler from the X-Men. And from there, I'm going to, before I start falling,
Starting point is 00:09:06 jam the staff into the ceiling to activate because you have to slam it into the ground and say a command word. And I'm like, cool, I'm gonna shoot down from the ceiling and crush him as a tree erupts, just with force. Greetings, adventurer. Spring has sprung here in Los Angeles, and that means it's a brief period
Starting point is 00:09:25 where it's only 75 degrees, instead of 95 degrees, I'll take it. And that means I've been outside a lot more. Walking around, occasionally galloping after a toddler hopped up on juice boxes, traveling a bit, you know the vibe. And after doing some spring cleaning, my wardrobe, I gotta say, looking a little bit sad. I want clothes that can keep up with me and my son, but updating my wardrobe every spring sounds pretty expensive.
Starting point is 00:09:50 So that's why I wound up signing up for Fabletics as a VIP. It let me overhaul my springtime outfits without obliterating. my bank account. New VIPs unlock major savings on that first purchase, so trying new fits feels way more doable. When I signed up as a new VIP with Fabletics, I got 70 to 80% off everything. It made it easy to grab a few new pieces without overthinking it. And the quality really surprised me. Everything feels premium and soft and breathable, but you're not paying those premium prices. What I like most, though, is how versatile everything is. You've got stuff you can work out in, but also wear out. There's matching sets, lightweight hoodies, joggers, teas, you name it.
Starting point is 00:10:30 The kind of stuff you can throw on in the morning and not worry about later. When I'm at home, my favorite thing to pull on is the oversized hoodie. It's so comfy I could just live in it 24-7. It's perfect for walking my dog on like a chilly night. But what I'm out and about, I've really been loving the ribbed Johnny Collar polo. It makes me look like I should be taking a high-powered meeting by the pool at the White Lotus, but hopefully with less murder involved. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:10:53 It's insanely comfortable. highly recommend it. So shop now at fabletics.com slash critical role to get 70 to 80% off everything when you sign up as a new VIP. Take a quick style quiz and be sure to select critical role when prompted to unlock your 70 to 80% off. This is a limited time offer, so don't wait. Again, that's fabletics.com slash critical role for 70 to 80% off everything as a new VIP. And now, on to the show. Greetings, adventurers. Lately, I've been getting a bit more intentional. about what I wear from day to day, because instead of just falling out of whatever laundry baskets nearby, I've been leaning into pieces that feel easy and comfortable, but still put
Starting point is 00:11:36 together because it just makes getting dressed simpler when I have a plan. Quince has been my go-to to help with that, because the fabrics feel elevated, the fits are clean, and everything just works without me needing to overthink it. And Quintz has all the wardrobe staples you need for spring. Think 100% European linen shorts and shirts from just $34. They're lightweight, they're breathable, they're comfortable, your legs, and torso will thank you, and you will still look put together. And clean 100% Pima Cotton Tees with a softness, well, you got to feel that to believe it, believe
Starting point is 00:12:07 you me. Their pants also hit that same balance. They're relaxed, they're comfortable, but still polished enough to wear basically anywhere. And everything's priced between 50 and 80% less than what you'd find at similar brands. Quince works directly with ethical factories and cuts out the middlemen, so you're getting premium materials without the markup. And since spring is here in Los Angeles, a brief period where it's 75 degrees instead of 95 degrees, I spruced up my wardrobe with a pair of the comfort stretch traveler five pocket pants
Starting point is 00:12:37 and the heritage washed denim shirt. Not only do they feel great, but I unequivocally look good as hell while wearing them. That's just science. So refresh your every day with luxury you'll actually use. Head to quince.com slash critical role for free shipping on your order and 365-day return. now available in Canada too. That's Q-U-I-N-C-E.com slash critical roll for free shipping
Starting point is 00:13:04 and 365-day returns. Quince.com slash critical role. The fact that it was actually a hundred-foot dollar so I just teleport up and I'm like, uh-oh. I thought there's going to be a ceiling here. But that's great because then I'm a giant tree and I get to do all that fall damage as well. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:23 Look, he has some seasonal effects. because Fall came for him literally. Yeah, and I like, I mean. How much damage was that? That was like a ridiculous. I did 57 points of damage, which half for him because he saved with his insane decks bonus. But 57 points of tree-based damage is pretty tight.
Starting point is 00:13:45 Tree luck. Tree luck. Tree luck. You guys have had like that two of my favorite, I think, like combat sort of combos ever. Yours is now the misty step and tree, and yours is the bonk and bite. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:01 So I'm like, well, I gotta figure out a cool combo. I don't know what to do now. I mean, you're doing some work with that gun, for sure. RIP, gun tippy. His eyes disappearing. Gun tippy. Yeah. He had to do it, though.
Starting point is 00:14:12 He did. And I love that he sacrificed himself. The Pay Night and the Unzug Shield fighting back with something that I was like, yeah, I mean, I want you to be able to do this. There just has to be a penitial. No, that made sense. While they're also, everyone's in a trance,
Starting point is 00:14:29 like, I guess you're fighting the flesh things again. Like, who's actually doing anything to you? When I cast shatter, it made sense that I was like, oh yeah, I guess there would be some residual, like, it's fighting back. Yeah, yeah. Like, these crystals are, I mean, magic is being all magic, and it does matter who controls it. And so that, the fact, I also knew that, like,
Starting point is 00:14:52 the force thing would wear off, and I think that that's great, that like magic can't pass in or out. But the fact that he would do, he would shackle you as well and just do like a mechanical thing. Like I just need you on this. I just need you on this slab
Starting point is 00:15:03 and that's the math I'm doing. It's like I need you all on this slab to get the throat bone. And top of the... To get the throat bone. The god bone. Yeah, okay. Top of the fifth round
Starting point is 00:15:14 would have been interesting. Would have been bad news. Yeah. But we got, you know, we got the... It's really weird because I'm fighting, I'm using these stat, that are high CRs. Like, you should not be fighting them.
Starting point is 00:15:28 Like, this is, again, but they do have awesome powers. And I thought, well, if Eun-zug is gonna be mega-awson and we have a deity, like she should, once she gets healed up on something, she should be more powerful, actually. Yeah. And so, anyway, that's, if she hadn't gotten healed up and Eun-zook's just out there doing legendary actions,
Starting point is 00:15:48 which that's tough at a level four to be fighting. Yeah. Yeah. you rolled a one in that instance. Yeah, I did. With his plus 12 modifier. Yes. Still just made it by one point.
Starting point is 00:16:01 And I normally, like I will fudge rolls, like, for the story, like I'm one of those dungeon masters, but on this battle, I have not fudged a roll. I believe it. I believe it. I believe it. I believe it. I know you weren't, I know you weren't pulling punches with my boy, U4, who, unfortunately. He bet the dust, yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:19 Yeah. Yeah. The longest death I've ever seen. Yeah, actually. You know, he's agonizing. I kind of miss you for it. I feel like I really got to know him in those, you know, 10 minutes he was dying. He's an NPC, which means now perishing character,
Starting point is 00:16:31 which means you need to understand exactly what he's going through. His life seeps out from his eyes and onto the floor, as he's devoured by flesh monsters. And I did not think, Crandall, in all sense of the world. Didn't think he was going to be alive this long? Didn't they? Well, alive or doing literally anything good? Like, literally, I mean, I've talked with the story producer, writer Rinn,
Starting point is 00:16:52 and I'm like he can't, he's not good at anything. We can't have him. He's a non-combatant. There's nothing good. Maybe he has some hit points if he gets into battle, but it's like 10. Like there's nothing good about him, but we decided like what he is good and what he's, is to know things. And that's it. Like he may as well be a magic item.
Starting point is 00:17:08 Other than that, he's kind of just this dumb thing that follows him around. He just represents institutional knowledge. Yeah. I literally was my whole point of having him, yeah. It was just to literally find a way to A, he can, take damage because I'm squishy. Temporary hit points. Yeah. Operation Human Shield.
Starting point is 00:17:26 Operation Human Shield, which he was amazing at. And B, like, I can use him for an extra turn if we so need. Even if he can't do anything, I can do things through him. I just loved that we got to say goodbye to these delightful dwarves, my poor boy, U5 or U4 who was done so dirty, but got a nice, a nice brief death speech to really just express
Starting point is 00:17:50 some stuff on his mind. He's a crazy word to say. He's an NPC now perishing character, and people need to understand what he's going through. I'm just really happy that you found a use for Crandall. Yeah, as we said, the whole point of me bringing Crandall along was literally either to absorb hits for anybody in the party or to be able to be, to use as like an extra turn for something.
Starting point is 00:18:12 Because I wasn't sure if I was going to need to be up top and then I was going to have to like charm or like do something to get the skeletons to remember who they were and send them down there to the control room and have them do things. So I wasn't sure if it was going to be me or Crandall or anyone else, but I knew that it was going to be like important
Starting point is 00:18:30 for someone to be down there. So that was also like... Well, that was clutch too because I didn't have like a mechanic for that but the fact that you were like, the chalice, I mean, the chalice just had healing. And I was like, gosh, that should matter, you know? Or Dentph is the sovereign of healing.
Starting point is 00:18:45 And you have his champion. You are the champion of... Sorry, out of Jews. Yeah, yeah. No more. Empty, empty, drip drop. But it was just so cool that, yeah, you have this guy who can, you know, do the math on what magic batteries will look like. And you rolled, and you rolled, I was like, well, I don't know, this is wild, but you, I like those luck rules where it's like 11 or higher.
Starting point is 00:19:08 Yeah. This can make sense. We're in a fantasy world. Like, who's to say? And you did. And that's just, like, amazing. But yeah, without crandal, without your magic item, without that roll. Who knows?
Starting point is 00:19:18 Yeah. And with me, with my very sad, at this point, six hit points. Oh, that was cute. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's like full. And you, this is full. And then, uh, and then, yeah. Anything left for business?
Starting point is 00:19:31 Don't worry. Don't worry. Don't worry. This is that four. Four, and you're a tree. Yeah. And then you just left off with some other bosses coming in a house. I'm going to forget that.
Starting point is 00:19:41 Oh, yeah. No, we won't. It'll be fine. Don't worry about it. I'm not worried about it. Yeah. I'm not extremely worried about it. I think trees are extra flammable.
Starting point is 00:19:48 with magma too. It's a magic tree. It's a snake tree. We'll find a way. We'll find a way out of this. I think it becomes a chimney as Phibbs burns as a tree all the way up through the flu.
Starting point is 00:20:01 I also like that we learned a little bit more about who Eunzug was and how we became a dark lord. Fail elf. Well, Amy, I have to ask, were you all inspired by any historical figures of someone who
Starting point is 00:20:14 wasn't able to get into the art school? they maybe had in mind. It instead became just perhaps one of the most evil figures in history and just really capitalizing on a world that had been desolated and was recovering from this major event and really gathering forces. So I see where you're going with this. No.
Starting point is 00:20:37 Okay, no further questions. At all, but I see the lines that you're drawing. And it is not a good look on Unzouk. I'm trying to think this Unzuk might be a... bad guy. You're a bad guy. Yeah, he lied just to your faces and has a feat thing where you just can't tell what a lie is,
Starting point is 00:20:59 even if he rolled really high. He just couldn't tell what, if he was lying or not ever. Which I don't think you even incited. You just were like, it's daddy un-sued. We like this guy. You did make an un-site check at one point. To see if he actually meant that he believed in you. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:15 And he did. Oh, Tippy. I guess he did believe in me for my throat bone. He believed in my throat bone. He did believe in your throat bone. He really wanted that. That would have been, that would have been... It's time to bring on the blooms at the Home Depot with Spring Garden deals.

Then get everything you need to plant and protect them with low prices guaranteed on soil and mulch. Dig into spring garden deals for four days at the Home Depot. Now through May 10th. Starting point is 00:22:03 Enough. Enough to get lost. Or you could book a stay with Hilton. Welcome to your oceanfront room. Just steps from the water. The Hilton sale is on now. Book on Hilton.com or The Hilton. Hilton app and save up to 20% to get the stay you expected.
Starting point is 00:22:20 When you want savings, not surprises, it matters where you stay. Hilton, for the stay. It really gruesome. Yeah, I was getting worried when you were like, oh, and then you're going to take damage every turn from this, like, ritual. Yeah, and my version of that is, like, the hyoid bone is, like, pulling away. Oh, yeah. I thought at the end he was reaching out to do, like, a throat rip. That's what I thought is, like, legendary action was going to be, like, the...
Starting point is 00:22:44 Yeah, I mean, it is. Like, technically, that is. what it was going to look like. He's like, if I can't have it, you can't have it, a thing, and I'll do the ritual somewhere else. But he rolled a one. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Amazing. I don't know. Here we are. We'll find out. You know, we're about to fight the people that ruined our lives in the very first episode, the yester dusters. As we're going to wrap things up here in just a minute, but I'm curious, what are your
Starting point is 00:23:11 thoughts as we head into what's ostensibly going to be the season finale? I don't know how to feel because it feels like things for TIPI are, I'm rolling well for once. It's called growth. Yeah, yeah, which is very shocking to me. And I have the luckstone, but I'm really worried about my friends. I can have Pekara's on the edge of, she's not doing great. All of my friends are not doing great. And so it's a big concern, and I'm a little worried going into the finale, what's going to happen.
Starting point is 00:23:44 I'm nervous. I, look, I'm going to find a way to get my hit points back. I'm going to beat the crap out of some yester dusters. That is 100% going to happen. That's my, like, Busy doesn't know that they're here yet. Oh, and we should probably also continue evacuating since we brought nothing but chaos and harm to the dwarfs. Because we ruined their home and act, we pressed the volcano lever.
Starting point is 00:24:12 Tommy. I mean, it just, Nobody's Nerfect. It says that in a little sign above the lever. Yeah, I mean, Eun-Zug had a part to play in this, like channeling so much magic. Yeah, you could see. Whose fault was it really?
Starting point is 00:24:28 It was Eun-Zo. Yeah. Amy, what about you? What are your thoughts as we head into the finale? Well, I do think it is possible, especially with, now that I know how much hit points you have, that one of you might die. And if you die, it might be in a pool.
Starting point is 00:24:45 of magma and I don't know. The only thing I really have planned are stat blocks, so will. Oh, and a table, a table, a volcanic table. And Dan as a tree, how do you feel about going in the finale? I feel like I should make like a tree and leaf because we're in imminent danger. We could go from my fall from Grace
Starting point is 00:25:08 into the winter of my discontent very quickly. And because of global warming, things are getting extra hot because of all that magma Fill it up this mountain. Folks, that about does it for this episode of Suggas of Sundry question answers. I don't know, man. And we're here.
Starting point is 00:25:23 Make sure you stay tuned for the season finale of Sagan Sundry Goblin Mode coming to you on Geekin Sundry and Wherever Fine Podcasts served. Thank you so much for joining us on this journey and we can't wait to see how it all ends with you. So thank you and we'll see you next time. Bye bye.
Starting point is 00:25:39 Bye. This episode is brought to you by Netflix's Remarkably bright creatures. What if a Pacific octopus held the key to a mystery that could heal your heart? Well, that's Tova's reality. An elderly widow working at an aquarium.
