Starting point is 00:00:00 Once upon a time, a group of curious storytellers breathed life into epic tales set in the wide fantasy world of Exandria. This is Liam O'Brien, here to welcome you to Critical Role. We'll dive into the story in just a moment, but first, a few notes. With all that said, let's get into the story. Hello, everyone, and welcome to tonight's episode of Critical Role, where a bunch of us nerdy-ass voice actors sit around and play Dungeons & Dragons. We play Dungeons & Dragons!
Starting point is 00:01:03 That may be the most ridiculous one yet. Thank you. It's on the possible range. You do. Anyway, welcome. Before we jump into tonight's session, we have some announcements to get through, beginning with the first of our two sponsors tonight. The beginning, the first one, NordVPN. Sam.
Starting point is 00:01:22 We're almost in, Cryptonic. Only one more firewall to the Ultra Codex. It's taken 18 straight hours of side-channel spoof caching, but with NordVPN's help, we're gonna crash this code. 18-ing the small wonder! Grinding the logstroker! Gleaming the cube! Simul-sliced! Again? But how?
Starting point is 00:01:48 We're protected by NordVPN, a personal virtual private network service provider that shields your activity and blocks annoying ads. And it's easy to download at nordvpn.com slash critical role. But if the two leadest hacksaws on the web can't break the ultra-codex, maybe we should just derez our logins. Megatronic! two leadest hacksaws on the web can't break the Ultra Codex, maybe we should just derez our logins. Megatronic!
Starting point is 00:02:09 What? Not yet. It is I, the serial killer broadcasting coast to coast to help foil this heinous scheme. But wait, I heard after DaVinci, you went dark. You de-booted. Sure, I control deleted from your existence. But from my world I've been watching you in my virtual mainframe, I haven't seen glue, glue.
Starting point is 00:02:34 Cube beamers like you since the 90s. And I've got news, the Ultra Codex is crackable. Impossible, we've tried everything. Yeah. Whoa, yeah. You've been hacking heavy metal, but have you tried the Mobius device? Whoa!
Starting point is 00:02:53 You mean the legend is real? Zero, one, one, one, zero, zero, one, one. That's binary for yes. I know that's binary. It's a code for I. 51073 at haywild.com. I give you the secret key to the hack net. With it, you will feel like a god.
Starting point is 00:03:11 Now get ready to jack in for justice. Okay. I can't see my plushies. It's over here. It's over here. It's not for yourself. It's not for yourself. It's not for yourself.
Starting point is 00:03:22 On my mark. Oh shit. I'm Gary. This is not Gygax. The modem is buzzing! Switch to phantom logic on Triad Protocol. Alpha Channel? No, damn it, Trina!
Starting point is 00:03:37 Positronic, target online! Wait, they throw up a gospel boot cipher on the long freak! Are they trying to skizz jam our goof troop? I'll flush them down the ford, I'll flush them down the ford dredd! Now just enter the password! It's swordfish! Ha! The wedding! Excellent
Starting point is 00:04:15 They fell right into my trap and got fried Now no one will stop my Ultra Codex Because Black Willow and Cryptic Override Are in the internet And because I'm protected by NordVPN they will be in there forever. Speaking of NordVPN
Starting point is 00:04:33 it's their eighth birthday and everyone who gets a three year plan will receive one additional month free. That's incredible! That is a gift! Critters, you have got to log in to norvpn.com backslash Critical Role, or use the coupon CRITICALROLL at checkout.
Starting point is 00:04:54 Matt Mercer, hack to you. Wow! Holy shit! Yeah! Oh my god. Thank you. Oh my god! Thank you. Oh my god! Thank you, Madeline.
Starting point is 00:05:10 Fucking mad! Oh my god! My... Oh my god. Oh shit! I think we've gone too far. I think we've finally gone too far. Well, I've peaked.
Starting point is 00:05:26 Yeah, yeah, shut it all down, guys. Thank you, Sam, thank you, Laura, thank you, Matthew and Lillard, and thank you, NordVPN, for sponsoring our show and whatever that was. No, no, no, we're Laura and Sam. Oh, I'm sorry, I don't know what you're. Oh, I'm sorry. Cryptonical Override. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:05:48 Do you know what happened just a second ago? No, we were in the backstage. We had the shits. We had the shits. Thank you guys for finally showing up then. The final shits. We had the final shits. What? I can't!
Starting point is 00:06:06 Oh my god. Oh my god, my face hurts. Okay. Check out, play. Yeah, yeah. So it happens when you don't do theater too long. You start doing this shit. Thank you, NordVPN. Our second sponsor tonight
Starting point is 00:06:23 are our friends at D&D Beyond, who've been with us since the beginning of the campaign. Woo! Thank you guys so much for supporting our amazing show. If you haven't had a chance to check out or use their tool, they're an amazing online digital tool for keeping track of your campaigns and your characters and all other facets of your D&D playtime.
Starting point is 00:06:39 It's awesome. And they, today, updated the most recent revision of the Bloodhunter class, which I created and recently revised as part of a great DMs Guild charity push, bundle push to help for relief for the Australian bushfires. It went really well. The amazing community contributors at DMs Guild put together numerous great packages,
Starting point is 00:07:00 and I think all together, between DMs Guild and DriveThruRPG, they raised over $300,000 in charity relief, which is amazing. So you're happy to be a part of that at all. But the Bloodhunter is now on D&D Beyond for free, and you can find it at DMs Guild as well for download. For free as well. That's amazing. Let's see, we got a few other announcements here.
Starting point is 00:07:19 Laura, you got something to talk about. Yes. Super excited to officially announce that we have arrived at Hot Topic. Oh! My inner 16-year-old is going, I know. What? On so many levels today, just so many levels.
Starting point is 00:07:39 But yeah, so a lot of you have already noticed and may have already gone to the stores and seen our four shirts and our hoodie, if you guys want to. Do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do. Oh wait, there's a hoodie, too. Oh, wait, wait, wait. Eh, eh.
Starting point is 00:07:54 Oh my. Oh. So yeah, they're online and they're at the stores. You can find them online, hot topic dot com oh slash Critical Role. And if you can't find them at your local store, just ask the store's associate for help. They can maybe, they can order it,
Starting point is 00:08:10 they can ship it to you. I know that some of them are already sold out online, but they're on back order right now, and they're getting more. Or you could turn your local Hot Topic sales associate on to Critical Role. I mean, just spread the gospel. So yeah, you can only get these shirts through Hot Topic,
Starting point is 00:08:28 so you can go check it out now. And I should definitely say that the Mighty Nein illustration won. That's awesome. That one. Yes, that was Selina Erica Espirito. The Mighty Nein doodles, Wendy Sullivan. And our Mighty Nein logo, which we use in many places, is by Crystal Sharp.
Starting point is 00:08:49 Yay! So thank you to our fabulous artists as well. Creator artists. Hell yeah. Thank you, Laura. I'm excited. I don't know, it's weird. Also, a couple other heads up here.
Starting point is 00:09:06 Tomorrow night at 7 p.m. Pacific, here on our Twitch channel, you get to join us for Valentine's Day for Children at Home for our fabulous Monster Hearts one-shot. Yeah. Which includes Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, and friends and members of the family.
Starting point is 00:09:24 Now your critical role, Eric Ishii and Allie Beardsley. And it's ridiculous, it's fun, it's dark, it's real. It's going to be a lot of fun. So check it out. If you haven't had a chance yet to check out Monster Hearts The Game, it's Incredibles designed by Avery Alder. Avery Alder.
Starting point is 00:09:45 Avery Alder, there we go. I'm going to make sure I get that wrong. And it's a great game where we get to be teenagers in high school, also secretly monsters, and all sorts of chaos and tension and angst and stuff ensues. Can't wait to see it, you guys. So check it out tomorrow night here at 7 p.m. and it will be VOD thereafter,
Starting point is 00:10:04 and will be on YouTube on Sunday for those who can't check it live. So I'll look forward to that. It's sexy. We also have our visit coming up to Chicago for C2E2 Convention. Chicago! The announcements.
Starting point is 00:10:16 Super excited to meet all you guys who are coming out to be part of the event there. We still have some presale autographs and photo op tickets available for C2E2, so check it out if you haven't had a chance yet on their website, as well as their website for pre-purchase pre-sales there. I think that's all I have on that.
Starting point is 00:10:32 Travis, you have some things. Yes, yes, yes, yes. So our good friends at OSD announced earlier this week that Xbox is going to match every dollar donated up to $250,000, which doubles the impact of your donation. So please, head over to weareosd.org and click the Our Latest Campaign link in the header before March 31st.
Starting point is 00:10:57 Thank you, OSD, thank you, Xbox, that's incredible. Show some love. Woo! Yeah! Awesome. Wait, what's now? It's a thing on our show. Yeah, there some love. Yes! Yeah, awesome. Of course. Wait, what's now? It's a thing on our show. Yeah, there you go. Ever evolving.
Starting point is 00:11:10 Yes. I believe that is it. So let's go ahead and jump into tonight's episode of Critical Role. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhieieieieieieieieieieieieieieieieieieieieieieieieieieie The adventure begins They were always beside you Your nerdy best friends And the DM to guide you And they rise from the flames
Starting point is 00:11:58 For the battles ahead Villains beware Cause you're about to be dead. They got magic and flair. They got falchions and cunning. They don't see over there. There's a monster incoming. Inspiration is waiting.
Starting point is 00:12:20 Rise up, don't think twice. Put your fate in your hands. Take a chance, roll the dice Roll the dice Critical Roll the dice Critical Roll the dice
Starting point is 00:12:31 Critical Roll the dice Critical Can you answer the call? Digging deep in your soul As the legend unfolds Now it's your turn To roll Now it's your turn to roll!
Starting point is 00:12:58 Fours. And welcome back. Oh, she thinks that's Fours. Axe. Axe Fours. I don't claim to know her. So, last we left off, the Mighty Nein had found their way to Kamordah and the mountains northward to try and engage with the Old Crone, the Prism Sage,
Starting point is 00:13:19 a Sharni, to break the curse that still holds not within her physical form. A deal was struck through the use of memory-altering magic via Jester, and you escaped without conflict for the time being with the creature. You battled some undead in the swamp as you fled into the night,
Starting point is 00:13:35 and after survival and a safe rest, you made your way back to Rosohna, where you collected yourselves, your intent, and asked Essek if he could help transport you to the White Dawn Lagoon, where it seemed visions of Caduceus' Wildmother-given journey in finishing what his family had set out to accomplish lie.
Starting point is 00:13:57 After transporting yourselves to the exterior of the jungle, where it seems the Circle of Beasts, the oasis that contains one of these collections, the Stone Family in particular, that is the next step of this vision quest. You made a parasol for Essek and sent him on his way. You began to traverse the dangerous jungle.
Starting point is 00:14:20 A short time into your journey, rest was taken, a night was set, and in the middle of your evening's watch, Jester was called away from the camp spot by a familiar green-cloaked figure, called by the Traveler to the shadows of the jungle. The Traveler revealed a lot more about his past than you were previously aware, learning that the Traveler may not be entirely
Starting point is 00:14:55 a god in the sense that you had anticipated or believed, but had discovered Jester many years ago as this entity traversed the land, saw chaotic kinship within her, and this worship that Jester gave, this love and trust that was placed into this entity, gave it purpose in a way it wasn't expecting, which led to it seeking other people
Starting point is 00:15:25 to join this family of belief and trust and forthright interest in adding more chaos to the world around them. He also revealed himself to be a long, orange-haired fey entity and revealed that he had no idea what he was doing and he desperately needed your help. And that was where we left off. As the Traveler, Hood held back,
Starting point is 00:15:55 standing above you, tall, lanky, graceful limbs, eyes filled with mysterious age and anxiety. Looking towards you, continues on, I'm not any less than I have been for the pretense. Itself is a bit of trickery, and I think that even you can appreciate that, Jester. I am Lord Artagan of the Mourne Crown, and I am the Traveler.
Starting point is 00:16:28 You, Jester Lavor, are my protege, and most prized pupil. You hold the purest priorities to see the world turned on its head. I know I can trust you. Will you help me? Well, obviously. Good God, I knew I could believe in you.
Starting point is 00:16:55 Um, I guess... Our tagging? The Traveler is fine. Traveler, um... Do you want this? Do you want to be a god? I don't know. I'm enjoying aspects of it.
Starting point is 00:17:20 I've enjoyed the adoration. I've enjoyed the adoration. I've enjoyed the extensions of my tangled web finding its way to generally twist and tease the mundane idiots that seem to permeate this plane. But I've reached a point where I generally don't know what to do from this point forward. I don't know if I have too many followers.
Starting point is 00:17:52 I don't know if I should just cut free and run away. Well, I mean, do you get more power from more people following you? It feels that way to an extent. If they follow you, do you have to answer them? Not always. I mean, I haven't always answered you. I wish I could have, trust me,
Starting point is 00:18:16 I really wish I could have, but I'm not one entity. Well, I mean, whatever we decide, I mean, are you still going to hang out with me? If you'd have me. Okay, good. I would be really sad if, you know, you didn't want to do that anymore. Well, if I was to leave, I'd take you with me.
Starting point is 00:18:42 Oh, that's fun. Where would we go? All sorts of places. Well, if I was to leave, I'd take you with me. Oh, that's fun. Where would we go? All sorts of places. Now that the doorway has been open for some time, I think we can travel quite easily through many of the planes, maybe other worlds. Really? This is but one of many prime materials.
Starting point is 00:18:58 I'd be curious to see what else lies out there, hm? Me too. I mean, we have to, you know, take care of some stuff here first, but... Um. Do you know what's going on with everyone that you know I'm hanging out with? No, not entirely.
Starting point is 00:19:20 They seem rather boorish, though I do worry that half-orc Mama's Boy seems to have picked up on my recent sloppiness, if you will. Oh, well, he would never judge, you know. He's actually really polite, and I mean, yeah, kind of a Mama's Boy, but not in that way. I mean, he's really reliable, is really what it comes down to.
Starting point is 00:19:47 Your friends, your companions. Yeah, yeah. What are their thoughts on us? They all seem pretty supportive of it. Some of them are like, oh, I don't know, I've not heard of him before, and I've told them all about you. Well, I mean, it's still kind of a new thing we're working on. Right, right.
Starting point is 00:20:12 The branding aspect of this own chapel. But here's the question. I mean, should I be telling people about you? Well, of course, that was the whole idea. Well, I know, but the more people I tell, the more people that are going to want to rely on you. I know. And you'll have to answer to them. What do we do?
Starting point is 00:20:27 That's why I'm here. I don't know. I like the attention. Okay, okay, okay, okay. I have, here's an option. Yes? What if, you know, at Traveler Con, we establish you as this god that can always hear, but you're more like the other gods, you know, at Traveler Con, we establish you as this god that can always hear,
Starting point is 00:20:46 but you're more like the other gods, you know, that are like, oh, you know, like, okay. So Caduceus, he worships this wild mother. I'm familiar. Yeah. And so when he asks her questions, you know what she does? Nothing. She blows the wind. Exactly, she does shit. And he's like, I sense, you know,
Starting point is 00:21:07 I understand what she's saying. She's not doing anything, but he thinks she is. Interesting. Yeah. And he seems... content? Yeah, yeah, he's like totally into her. Ugh, people are strange. I know.
Starting point is 00:21:23 So you could be like that, you know, where people ask you things and you don't do anything and they'll still think you're doing something. But I've already been so involved. Won't they be disappointed if suddenly I'm just not appearing? Well, we just have to establish it as like there's a new way of doing things, you know? Interesting.
Starting point is 00:21:41 Like you've gotten so powerful that you're always, always with us and you hear our thoughts and you control everything and... So the party is a goodbye, kind of, loosely. Not for me, not for me. Just for all those other people that are less important. And now they have friends, they've met,
Starting point is 00:22:05 they can be a community in their own right. I love that. Where anything goes good, it's because of me. Everything goes bad, it's because of them. Right, or they'll find greater purpose in the bad things. You know, they'll be like, oh, everything happens for a reason. That's ridiculous, but I'm happy for them
Starting point is 00:22:22 to be content with that. I know, I know. Nothing happens for a reason. It's absolute, but I'm happy for them to be content with it. I know, I know. Nothing happens for a reason. It's absolute fucking chaos. This guy. Oh no. So, I mean, one of the things we could do, you know, what if I just had everybody, like all my friends, you know? Yes.
Starting point is 00:22:44 What if we got to Traveler Con and we were all like your high priests and high priestesses and stuff, and we helped establish how the religion was going to be, you know? We could show people how to pray to you if they haven't done that before, you know? All right.
Starting point is 00:23:03 I'm going to warn you, it's a very eclectic mix. Are any of them as powerful as me? No, not at all. Okay, so we can totally fool them. Yet. Okay. What? Well, you've got to make sure I'm always ahead of them! You're doing great!
Starting point is 00:23:21 I'm not, look, Jester, don't worry, just don't get lazy. I'm never going to be lazy. I know. Well, so we gather your friends, convince them to help, you act as acolytes. Yeah. We have a celebration. Yeah, what are we going to do there? I mean, do we just give a concert or like?
Starting point is 00:23:46 No theater. But. Music. Fuck this. Music, perhaps. We can bring some performers in. Okay. Yes, yes, refreshments.
Starting point is 00:24:02 Yeah, obviously. Right, right. Yeah. We could do some displays of power. I mean, it is a volcano. Maybe we can make it erupt. Well, just make sure, you know, that, well, I mean, it would solve your problems if they all got wiped out at the same time.
Starting point is 00:24:18 I suppose. True. Then they wouldn't be relying on you anymore, but your power might get less. It's not about the power at this point, it's just about keeping it interesting. Oh, well, then, you know, that could be something. But, you know, I'll be there, and you love me so much, that would be not so bad. Yeah, there's no
Starting point is 00:24:38 variant point, no volcano. Yeah, okay. Yet. Wait till we're late. Maybe. So, should it be like a Tartan I leave into the sky? I mean, maybe we can make you, can you make yourself grow like super, super, super big? And like fill up the whole almost sky,
Starting point is 00:25:01 like, you know, like this great big presence, and then you like lift up and you disappear, and we're like, yes, then. A visual ascension. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And now I'm with them at all times, not answering a damn thing. Right, but they'll think you're even bigger than you ever have been.
Starting point is 00:25:19 You're answering to so many people, you can't possibly be there with them personally. But they'll have each other. Delightfully foolish, I love it. We'll tell you, we'll tell them you can also communicate through the wind. I feel like that's a bit hackneyed territory, to be honest. Oh, I thought, I thought.
Starting point is 00:25:38 Melora leans in that space a bit heavy for me. Okay, well, we're still clear of that, I guess, but. All right, well, let's table the miracle for now. I'll put some thought to it, if anything comes inspiration-wise to you. All right, but we should definitely come up with some sort of ceremony to make you ascend. Right, all right, okay.
Starting point is 00:26:01 I'll start assembling some flowers. Pillows, an archway. Ooh! I've got some ideas. Ooh, ooh, ooh! Ooh, what? Can you open up your gateway and bring some stuff in from another plane
Starting point is 00:26:14 and that way people are seeing things that they've never seen before and it'll make it even more powerful and special there? I can open a gateway. The gateway to my home realm is a bit stationary, but I can still give the essence of it. Okay. I can make it presentory, grandiose.
Starting point is 00:26:41 I like it. Illusory, but effective, especially for the layman. Okay. And I will make programs to pass out to everyone, so they'll have something to take home with them. Keepsakes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Things to shadowbox. Good, good.
Starting point is 00:27:01 It's important to have a physical memory of the occasion, a reminder. Good. See, this is why I came to you. I'm so bad with planning. You know. I'm more of a kind of in the moment and improvised kind of. Understand, I mean, obviously,
Starting point is 00:27:17 we'll leave room for craziness to happen. Oh, there will be craziness, my Jester, don't you worry. Hmm. All right. This gave me much to think about. Did you want to come say hi to everyone? I mean, they're going to be your high priests and stuff. They appear to be sleeping.
Starting point is 00:27:38 That's true. Do they like being woken up in the middle of the night? I mean... How about I wait till breakfast? How they've eaten. We'll eat, then you will come in, see if we can fool them and make them think that you're even bigger than you are, right?
Starting point is 00:27:55 So they will see what we can do for them to make other, it'll be like a test run. Okay, so, all right. So we're trying to trick your friends as well? Yeah, but then we'll let them know. I'll follow your lead. Okay. You'll know when I arrive. Yes, I will.
Starting point is 00:28:15 Jester. Well, I just, but does this mean you're not always with me? It means I'll be with you as much as I've always been. And if they're not yelling into my ears as much, maybe I could be around more often. Okay. You're still my favorite.
Starting point is 00:28:36 And you're always mine. Go rest, and he extends his hand and he watches all the local bush bends and pulls away. Can you do this the rest of the time, though? Because this would really help our trek through the jungles. Oh, I'm sure it could, but I've got a lot to do with the planning and the individuals, you understand. But I've given you some tools.
Starting point is 00:28:58 I'm sure we could find your way. We'll find our way. If you rely on me continuously, how are you going to prove yourself? How will I be more powerful than everyone else? Exactly. I'm going to find my way back. You don't even need to make this path for me.
Starting point is 00:29:13 I'll take it, but you don't need to. I'm going to walk really fast away so that he doesn't take it away as I make my way. He does this with his hand, and you watch the little flowers go following your footfalls as you make your way through. It can just be beautiful. It doesn't have to be helpful.
Starting point is 00:29:31 You just run forward and look back and he's gone. My shoulders slump. I go back to my tent, the dome, and I sit down. Oh man. Can you hear me now? Oh man. I go to sleep. Mm.
Starting point is 00:30:04 All right. The watch goes uneventful throughout the evening, thanks to the protectiveness of the dome. The morning comes to, it is warm as the dome itself vanishes at the ending of its duration. The humidity and the heat immediately comes in, sticky. You can hear the insects heavily starting to buzz around you. The air itself still has that strange,
Starting point is 00:30:34 earthy sweetness to it, like various flowers and heavy jungle plants are giving off aromas to attract insects or larger creatures towards them. Oh my god, Sam. You fucking... You stupid. Out of control. But you all come to consciousness.
Starting point is 00:31:09 Bugs. No, they're not in here, don't worry about it. Oh, they're definitely in here. No, they're not. No! It's so much warmer here than I thought. Everyone drink water. Why? This is hot, we've been sweating.
Starting point is 00:31:26 Are you interested in sweat? That looks quite cool. Drink water. I go to reach for my flask, and it's not there. What are you looking for? She said to drink. Water. Water. It's the same thing, there's water in it.
Starting point is 00:31:44 They use water to make it. Yeah, here is my skin. Yeah. Caleb, it's me. Great minds. I open up the flask and I start drinking. Oh! Yasha! What? Oh, did you want some of this, too?
Starting point is 00:32:03 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Thank you. I don't know if that's the most supportive thing to swim. It goes a little hard. Yeah, that's kind of hard. I feel like you throw a person into the deep end. Mm-hmm. Isn't that the way you do it, and then that's how they cover?
Starting point is 00:32:14 If you're trying to drown them, sure, you'd throw them into the deep end. You've got to figure out how to swim. Wasn't trying to prove any point. I was just being super selfish. I don't think that hydrates you at all, though. I already drank a bunch of water. Okay.
Starting point is 00:32:29 We're in one. What are we doing this morning? Oh yeah, where are we going? Do you know where we're going? I can get us out of here if we want to go. Oh, that's right. That was the whole point of sleeping. Wait, go where?
Starting point is 00:32:42 We could leave and head back to a city, or we are traveling on our way. You ready? Yeah, yeah, I'm ready. Wait, wait, before we go, I have to pray to the Traveler. Oh. You do that, you pray daily now?
Starting point is 00:33:02 Well, yeah, it's how I decide. Help, he helps me figure out what I'm going to do for the day. She draws a dick on a tree or something. Yeah, I'm going to go carve a dick on a tree. Oh, okay, well, you should have just said that. And say, hey, Traveler, we're going to get going, we had some breakfast, and I'm going to carve this dick.
Starting point is 00:33:26 All right, well, you carved that, 50 pushups, let's go. Fucking. Yeah, come on. You guys get power through your pushups before you begin to hear this dull cracking sound. Right as Jester finishes her carving of the dick on the side of a jungle tree, you hear as the outside of the jungle tree, you hear
Starting point is 00:33:45 as the outside of the tree begins to splinter and split. And from the edges of this carved dick, you see flowers begin to bloom and erupt from it. Vines begin to suddenly start shifting out of it at a rapid pace and swirling around, almost encapsulating a large majority of this clearing you guys have been sleeping in, the fallen, rotted log that you had set yourself to rest against itself,
Starting point is 00:34:09 being swallowed by these vines as flowers of all colors begin to permeate. The scent of the air immediately begins to change to a very welcoming, almost bakery-like aroma. You can see glowing fireflies beginning to tangle through and swirl. The wind itself becomes cool and sends a chill through your back.
Starting point is 00:34:30 Yet it's alarming, but you feel comfortable. Praise be! What is happening? What is this? Oh, this is a bit weird. Did you do this? The Traveler has made his presence known! Is this the?ishnehr? You watch as the dick suddenly begins to fold into,
Starting point is 00:34:48 I hope that that's the base of it. Oh god. To fold into the tree and become a doorway. Oh jeez. A small doorway that grows in size. That doesn't look comfortable. He travels! So the base grows?
Starting point is 00:34:59 No! That's where they make the dick holes. He travels everywhere, to and fro, he travels great distances, because he is a god. A bright, keelish light begins to emerge from this carved hole in the center that opens up into an arched gateway. Okay, that is a urethra.
Starting point is 00:35:19 Oh. And stepping from it, you see, to you, and a handful of you in glimpses, a familiar green-robed figure. A few steps back. I get down and kneel. Is this? This is the Traveler, Maul.
Starting point is 00:35:42 The hand reaches out and touches the top of Jester's head. Thank you, my acolyte. Oh. Hello. Everybody say hi to the Traveler. Hi, hello. Hello. How are you doing? He's a god, so he's really cool. Sup?
Starting point is 00:35:59 Friends of Jester, you've traveled and kept her safe, and for that, I'm thankful. And we are on the cusp of a grand event, one that Jester may need your aid in. Oh. Should we just tell them? Understood. Should we just tell them now?
Starting point is 00:36:22 If you want, you can tell them. I mean, we can tell them, I can. What's happening? I feel like. What is this? Hey, so there's something really awesome happening that I just found out about. The Traveler is not actually a god-god-god.
Starting point is 00:36:41 I'm sorry? But he's like a mostly god-god? Right. I go up? But he's like a mostly god-god? Right. I go up and I touch him. He gets pushed back a bit and puts a hand up just as a reaction and the vines wrap around your arm and hold it in place. Can I monk parry him?
Starting point is 00:37:02 He's a god! I just want to touch him! Make a dexterity saving throw. Okay. I believe in you. Where are my d20s? I'm jumping up and trying to get between them. The drama has taken your planning. Okay, dexterity saving throw?
Starting point is 00:37:17 Correct. Okay. 22. 22. The vines come out towards you, and in slow motion, as they're about to wrap around your wrists, you pull your arm out and snap shut. He goes, shit. I turn around, yeah, not a god!
Starting point is 00:37:34 Hey, I said he's an arm-mostly god, not a god god. Okay, so here's the thing I'm realizing now. Maybe at Traveler Con, you don't appear in the flesh. Like, you just should not appear. What the fuck is going on? What are you talking about? You should always be bigger, right? Because I think if you're here as a person.
Starting point is 00:37:51 You watch as the Traveler's form suddenly swells to about 15 feet tall. The bath cracking above him. I didn't think this through. Maybe not, maybe back to normal size. What's the direction? Maybe come back down here, Frag. Is this too much?
Starting point is 00:38:07 Oh my god, jeez. I am the truck, pulls the hood back, and sits on his knees. He goes,. Yeah, like huge fucking knees. He's consuming half of this open space now. The vine's still around, there's still glittering firebugs,
Starting point is 00:38:24 but now is just this sitting giant with the bright mane of orange hair, the elongated fey ears, the fine-pointed features. I go up and Pat is where I guess is Caff, that's probably about it. He puts a hand down. I climb on his hand. Chester, to what do we owe this visitation
Starting point is 00:38:44 after so many months with you? Well, Traveler Con's coming up, right? Yeah. Sure. And we got to figure out a way to make, you know, all the other people attending Traveler Con not have to talk to him as much, because it's annoying. What does that mean? What do you mean? Oh, this is a lot. Okay, so.
Starting point is 00:39:03 Wait, first of all, who is this guy? Oh, this is the Traveler. But you said that the Traveler was a god who's been with you forever, and whose faith you put, you followed. Yeah, okay, so here's the thing. I was thinking about it a lot last night, and I don't remember you ever telling me
Starting point is 00:39:21 you actually were a god, so I can totally blame you for this. It was kind of an assumption I wasn't remember you ever telling me you actually were a god, so I can totally blame you for this. It was kind of an assumption I wasn't quick to correct. Right? I just told you. You just told her all of this last night. You thought this whole time that he... Was this a bad idea? Should I go? No, stay, please.
Starting point is 00:39:41 We have heard so much about you. See? I've heard a few things about you. I saw you in Asarius. Did you see me, or was that like a mistake? Was I not supposed to see you? I was probably running. Were you drunk? Towards the end of my...
Starting point is 00:39:58 You were drunk. End of my threats. I was not drunk, I was telling it. Okay. If we may be so bold. Yeah? You're an almost, god, is it. Okay. If we may be so bold. Yeah? You're an almost god. Is this what you would refer to yourself as, as an almost god?
Starting point is 00:40:10 Mm. He sets Jester down a bit. I am an unaffiliated, I would call an archfey. What does that mean? Arch. Arch means evil, doesn't it? Unfiltered. Like your arch nemesis?
Starting point is 00:40:32 No. Arch rival? It's only used in bad things. It means greater. Greater band. Oh, okay. More than. I can do many things, but I am not a god. And I've been enjoying helping people.
Starting point is 00:40:53 I've helped Jester for the better part of two decades now, I think it is, and in doing so, I think I've helped all of you quite a bit. But just to be clear, you're not a god. I thought you quite a bit. But just to be clear, you're not a god. I thought you were, I thought you were a holy magician, a holy mage.
Starting point is 00:41:16 I think he is more like this. Frumpkin appears on the ground. Oh, but not him, her. Yeah, where do you get your powers from, then? From him. It's also from me. But you're not a... Oh, do you think gods are the only entities that can grant their essence and powers to lesser beings?
Starting point is 00:41:37 What do you think demonic entities make choices with? I can already sense some dark deals in your half-orc friend here. Thank you. No, I just think it gives in your half-orc friend here. Thank you. No, I just think it gives a little bit more credit to her. That's all. Oh, all credit goes to her. She's amazing. But just know, just because I'm not a god
Starting point is 00:41:54 doesn't mean that I'm not trustworthy, or important, or capable, or a friend. You could kill all of us right now if you want to. I actually really could. it'd be very easy. But I'm not going to do that, because that's not interesting, it's not fun. What are you here to do? Find things that are interesting and have fun.
Starting point is 00:42:13 What if, oh my god, ultimate trick? Mm-hmm? You don't show up to Traveler Con. What if everybody gets there, and you don't come? I mean. That would be pretty great. It's a pretty good trick. Oh, so many angry people.
Starting point is 00:42:33 I know, I know, I know. Are you okay with dealing with that kind of customer support? Well. Because if so, I'm all about it. You seem very forthright. To follow up on my friend's question, what is it that you do want, besides to have fun?
Starting point is 00:42:51 Any particular goal? Not really. You've lived as long as I have, you just, good, bad, it all blends together. It's about keeping things interesting, fluid, weird. If the gods think that you're, you know, acting like a god, can they get mad at you?
Starting point is 00:43:17 Do I care? I don't know. I think it depends on the god in particular, not doing anything to bother any of them directly, and there's not, I think, in due much, they're all locked away in their little ethereal closets on the other side of the gate. Are they aware of you?
Starting point is 00:43:37 I'm sure they're aware of me. There, Frumpkin, the little capuchin monkey, starts climbing up his ropes and up into his hair and swinging about. He doesn't even, he acknowledges his eyes, but just lets it go. Do you have a lot of followers? Oh yeah, how many people are on Meda?
Starting point is 00:43:55 Maybe about two, a little over 200. Two hundred, that's so many more than I thought. I was thinking, like, not that many. Just right, that seems like a rather small number, actually, I thought. It's a very curated circle of individuals, thank you. I've seen this face before on other people. What are you talking about?
Starting point is 00:44:20 Oh man, you don't know what you're doing, do you? I like him. He's the one that listens to the wind. Yeah. What? I can smell her on you. Oh, yeah. She's boorish, but I like her color scheme and style. It's fine.
Starting point is 00:44:40 Caught half of that. Thought that was mushrooms. That is mushrooms. Thought that was mushrooms. It is mushrooms. Very acute. Thanks. Anyway. Feels like if you have this con or whatever, that a volcano is too large of a venue.
Starting point is 00:45:03 For 200 people. It doesn't have to take up the whole volcano, right? On the large of a venue. For 200 people. It doesn't have to take up the whole volcano, right? On the size of the volcano. I mean, it's not like we're going to be in the middle of the volcano, are we? That seems dangerous. Beach party? I think they are preaching exclusivity.
Starting point is 00:45:19 There is what it sounds like, yeah? Yeah, yeah, we're the elite. Everyone that's at Traveler Con, we can make everybody think that, you know, only they were invited. There's a lot more Traveler followers out there. That is viable. Yeah. The chosen few. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:45:33 And the goal of Traveler Con, besides being new and exciting, is to perhaps launch your faith to a greater reach. That is a good point. Opposite. It's to disengage a bit, let them find each other and... Not bother me as much. Yeah, so the goal is to make everybody believe that he's too powerful to be as present in their lives.
Starting point is 00:46:02 So we have to show them that he's, you know, that's not how you're supposed to pray to him, that he answers miracles in different ways. How are you going to do that with exclusivity? It feels like it clashes. Well, then they can go out and spread the word and let everyone know that this is how the Traveler works. You're hosting a dinner party, a mixer,
Starting point is 00:46:26 but with no guest of honor. With very high-profile guests. There's a particular word, I think, that deals specifically with this, that's been very prevalent through much of mortal history. The word is faith, and it means giving everything and expecting and receiving honestly
Starting point is 00:46:49 in the realms of religion, very little in return. Well, it's a cult. Well, uh. That's a cult. No, no, no, that's faith. It's a thin line. Wait, wait, okay, hang on, we're doing way too much planning, and there are other questions. and there are like other questions.
Starting point is 00:47:05 Yeah, there's other questions. For instance, you said that you're in this for the lulz a little bit. Like you just want to make fun and trickery and stuff. What happens if my friend Jessie says no or you grow bored of her? You told us that you could kill us. Is she in danger?
Starting point is 00:47:27 Does she have to follow you? She doesn't have to. You want to abandon these? I wouldn't abandon you. I know you wouldn't. What about us, though? If we don't say yes, are you going to kill us? I'm not going to kill you unless you give me a reason to.
Starting point is 00:47:43 Well, if we say no to this traveler. That's not a good reason, he knows I love you all. Well, I think in this instance, we are just concerned for our friend Jester. The other 199 or what have you, we do not know them, but are you with her for the long haul? Because she has great faith in you, we have heard. And I would never let that faith down.
Starting point is 00:48:03 Insight check. Make an insight check. Checker. Checker. Oh god, it's terrible. Eight. No, nine. Nine, the immortal balls. There is such a presence of personality
Starting point is 00:48:20 and slick, in spite of your prickly nature, Fuck, he's good. a likable quality to him and slick in spite of your prickly nature. Fuck, he's good. A likable quality to him that you have no idea. Okay, okay, keep going, keep going. I, all right, well, I guess I feel slightly more relieved that you're not intending to harm any of us, but backing up to the Traveler Con a bit,
Starting point is 00:48:45 your plan is to get 200 people together and just trick them with theatricality. We have to figure it out, okay? It's a lot of pressure. I'm not the best one to speak to this. Caduceus, I feel, is, but I feel like if you're going to establish a group that's supposed to support each other
Starting point is 00:49:04 or be there for each other, you need to give them something, and I'm not talking about an object or money or anything, like something to be faithful in, a set of guidelines, precepts. Yeah, that's what we gotta figure out, right? Something to follow, a code, right? Yeah, do you have a guido or a manifesto?
Starting point is 00:49:21 But that's what the whole point of Traveler is to not have that. We just... You need a story. Thank you, Caduceus. A story. Yeah, like, what do you believe in, man? What do you want the world to be? When people talk about you,
Starting point is 00:49:36 what do you want them to say? Yeah, what are your adjectives? This would actually help me a lot, because I am very bad at this. She has been describing you to people in pamphlets, I'm sure you've seen them, as a really cool guy. Have you seen the pamphlets? I have not seen any of these pamphlets, surely.
Starting point is 00:49:54 They're amazing. Here! They say that you're a really, really cool guy. Really cool guy who does really cool things. Yeah. And you're super powerful. This is ridiculous, I'm sorry. And with that, there's a swirl of greenish-blue wind and he's back to a regular, though still taller than most of you, form.
Starting point is 00:50:13 And he's looking at the pamphlet. Frumpkin's sitting on his shoulder. This is quite the artistic. Two tails on this. The margins as well. Thank you. Yeah, but I mean, this pamphlet, while amazingly designed and beautiful,
Starting point is 00:50:29 I don't feel it's a, it's not something that your followers would carry around and be like, have you read this book? You know, it doesn't have that kind of heft to it, right? Here's the thing. You asked me what I want. That's a hard question to ask me. I've wanted many things.
Starting point is 00:50:44 I've gained many and grown bold, and I've forgotten some and not cared. What matters is what I want right now. And I think what I want right now is to successfully continue to build a religious cult. Where only, where only you and I and the rest of us know the truth.
Starting point is 00:51:26 Because my, what a trick that would be. It's pretty great. It's pretty great. They're inventing a Sea Org. I am so conflicted. I mean, first off, maybe use club instead? Club or organization? Religion.
Starting point is 00:51:46 Only outwardly, yes. I just thought it was a fun term already thrown out. Super fun. I'm also sensing a theme of more of a rejection of norms and structure. Yeah. So perhaps the message is throwing off the shackles of conformity, tradition.
Starting point is 00:52:09 Responsibility. Yeah, hedonistic. Chaos crew. Well. Chaos crew. No one can see this over here. Chaos crew. So your objective is to have fun and not to achieve some sort of tax-exempt status, correct?
Starting point is 00:52:27 The third one's silent. I have no interest in monetary gain. If that's what you're inquiring about. I mean, if no one's getting hurt. I've gotten enough fabric so all of us can be high priests at Traveler Con. Should we cycle for a minute? People being tricked is fun.
Starting point is 00:52:58 Extremely shitty people being tricked is so much more fun. And there are so many shitty people just waiting to be tricked. It's true. Yeah, you know. It's true. What? Yeah? Go, Yasha.
Starting point is 00:53:20 I think I'm just confused about how... I feel like you've been tricking Jester. I'm just, if that's part of your thing, I don't know how I feel about that, you know? Not intentionally. I understand where your concern lies. But have you found yourself trusting and caring for other people and yet keeping things secret to yourself
Starting point is 00:53:49 to keep them safe? To make them feel comfortable? He's good. Yes, I feel like that's different, but yes. Yeah. I didn't intend for this to be what it was, but it was this young girl's joy and faith in me that brought me on this path.
Starting point is 00:54:14 If anything, she tricked me. I mean, you gave me a lot of powers, you know? I like being helpful. He didn't lie about that. So you want to? They're still scrubbing the paint from their temple, by the way. Oh yes. So mad.
Starting point is 00:54:32 Oh, I can tell. You don't want to deal with the day-to-day struggles of being a god. You want to retire. Why do you think the gods went behind the Divine Gate? Because it was to preserve the things they created? Because of the damage of the Calamity? No!
Starting point is 00:54:53 They got bored of having to do the bidding of every mortal at their feet, and they left to take vacation forever and occasionally send a bit of power their way. Well, you know, the lot of us certainly trust Jester completely, and we also know a great many shitty people. I wonder if we help create the best Traveler Con
Starting point is 00:55:20 that ever was. If maybe we could make it a full circle and you could help us with some of those shitty people. Oh, I already have been. We know, we have seen it. As long as you have her around, you'll have me around. Well, we would have to put on a very good show then. Here's the thing, though.
Starting point is 00:55:41 Not even. No, absolutely not. With Yasha? Those things have repercussions on a grander scale. Which bits? Sometimes if you trick dumb, stupid, idiotic people, it informs the rest of their lives. But I'm not talking about dumb, idiotic people. I am talking about the most intelligent, ruthless people
Starting point is 00:56:08 in this world. I mean, Beau's right. I was a big fan of practical jokes, and I mean... You were? You were? Things could get out of hand on occasion. It's been a while.
Starting point is 00:56:24 I knew I liked it. I mean, if things do get out of hand on occasion. It's been a while. I knew I liked it. I mean, if things do get out of hand, it can be a problem. I'm not going to speak more on the subject right now, but. Well, you just don't know how to escape. I know, you just have to bamf away. It's only a problem if you remain to be there for it. You turn invisible, you run away,
Starting point is 00:56:45 you dimension door, there's so many options. I'm not really a runner. You didn't have to run, it could be just an easy step. All I am saying is this, and I cast Seeming, and everyone's wearing green robes. Oh, I didn't even have to buy the stupid fabric! You see a big smile curl across his face. We have done a great many great things together.
Starting point is 00:57:08 Make mine have more embroidery. It has more embroidery. I have no desire to harm innocent people, but we could create something unique, a bit of life, you know, in a hard life. We are in control of ourselves. We do not have to harm anyone, unless there are people who deserve to be harmed.
Starting point is 00:57:39 That is a super intense responsibility and requires a certain amount of ego to say that. Hello, my name is Caleb Wood. Yes, I'm Caleb. I don't know if I can subscribe to that, but I owe Jester a great deal. And it would be
Starting point is 00:58:11 unconscionable not to help you with whatever path you're moving towards, either for the delight of crowds or to keep anything from getting out of hand. I agree that, I mean, I'm just here for Jester as well. And if these people are going to come to the volcano and expect something,
Starting point is 00:58:42 I suppose it would be more fulfilling for them to get some sort of a show than to leave disappointed and empty. Yeah. But I still would like to, I'd prefer it if they were set up with some sort of path to success or happiness, rather than just being tricked for trickery's sake.
Starting point is 00:59:04 Right, we want them to be happy. It feels good to believe. Your belief in the Traveler has helped you a great deal, not just because he's bestowed upon you powers, but also he's given you friendship. Yeah. It would be nice to give the other people at your con that same potential. He walks forward towards you, Jester,
Starting point is 00:59:29 seeing the hints of doubt and small, cold trickle of sorrow of the reality that you've been wrestling with since the evening. He reaches out and touches your chin and goes, Words are just words. I'm what I've always been and what you've made me. This has not changed.
Starting point is 00:59:57 Yeah. If anything, I trusted you with this because of what we have. I'm sorry if you're disappointed. No, I'm not. I guess I was just, you know, I really did think you were always around, and now I feel like
Starting point is 01:00:29 maybe that's asking a lot of you. I think if we pull this off, and if we do it right, we could leave 199 or so individuals still content with new friends, some to find a direction, perhaps in the way they go through their day-to-day as they slowly walk towards the Days of Dust.
Starting point is 01:01:04 And I'll have more time to be around you. I like it. All right, then. If Jester has faith in a Traveler, that's good enough for me, I suppose. I agree. I think, to Caduceus's point, you're the story, huh?
Starting point is 01:01:37 Hmm. You're not wrong. The child needs a story. You're the story. Yeah, you are the poster child. He helped you first. He changed your life. Yeah. You're his story.
Starting point is 01:01:57 Or more like... I'll be the keynote speaker. I think it's more than that, but yeah. Keynote speaker. What is the story that you'll tell as the, I mean, is he going to do a demonstration of the gifts he's given you? Ooh, that could be pretty cool.
Starting point is 01:02:20 Not bad. You could make me seem even more powerful than I am. Like Caleb, you could do some really cool stuff, right? Or what if you walked into there just in tattered clothing, because you're just a peasant girl with nothing. You're even feeble. Your hands don't work or something like that.
Starting point is 01:02:40 Yeah. Ooh, I could have no hands! No hands. And then, because of the Traveler, you can paint amazingly or something like that. Yeah. Ooh, I can have no hands! You don't need no hands. And then, because of the Traveler, you can paint amazingly or something. Are you saying an organized religious event would fake an individual's rise from a low place to a high one for the purpose of convincing the masses that there is a miracle?
Starting point is 01:02:59 Such a thing's never been done. Did I just invent that? Yeah. I don't think that's what you want. I agree. Why? You want. Your story's awesome already.
Starting point is 01:03:14 Don't... You can be a cleric of a trickery god, but don't fool them in faith. Tell them in faith. Tell them the truth. You don't want liars. And then fuck with them a little bit, because I mean, you got to. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You want storytellers, you want...
Starting point is 01:03:38 You want showmanship. You want people who will create, create events, create art, create things that people will see that'll confound them. To take this story and then begin to share their own. And you want to show them the truth. Well. A certain truth.
Starting point is 01:04:05 They go back to their hometown, and they set up a temple, and they get followers there, and then those followers get followers, and then those followers get followers. That's how you build a religion. They have a word for people who do that already. They're called jesters. What?
Starting point is 01:04:27 A trickster who shows the truth. I mean, how did you end up with that name in the first place? Well, I thought it sounded cool. I thought Jesters were people that made people laugh. You thought it? You chose your name? Well, yeah. Your mother did not name you?
Starting point is 01:04:52 Well, she did, but she told me I get to choose my own name. What was your name used to be? Don't think Tiefling's, do Tiefling, there's a thing, if I remember. Did you have a name before this? What did your mother call you? Before Jester. What was your mother's name?
Starting point is 01:05:09 For you. For you. For you. For you. Genevieve. Genevieve? Genevieve? Fine. Perfectly arranged. Jenny!
Starting point is 01:05:28 Sorry. I like that's lovely. I do, too. I like Jester, okay? Jester. Jeez. Can we call you Jenny? No, you can call me Jester.
Starting point is 01:05:38 Oh. Genevieve Lavor? I think the point is that you should be what people aspire to. We shouldn't have to trick people about you. You should be elevated. You should be the success. You are everything a disciple of the Traveler should be.
Starting point is 01:06:01 No sense to lie about that. I think you just show who you are on a grand scale. Which is pretty grand already. Which is, jeez, you guys. I feel pretty great right now. So that's your story, you know, like maybe an evil wizard tried to kill you when you were a baby and the curse rebounded
Starting point is 01:06:21 and left a scar on your forehead. No, okay, scratch it. No one scar on your forehead. No? Okay. Scratch it. No one will buy anything. That's ridiculous. Well, maybe we tell Jester's true story, but it sounds like you'll still need something fabricated to make you disappear or fly away or whatever.
Starting point is 01:06:41 We have an idea already. I've got a few weeks to workshop it, don't worry. Yeah. Got to figure this out, man. While you're here, and you seem to have quite the range of vision, is there anything we should ask about the stones and your particular journey, Caduceus? They think you're going to answer things for them.
Starting point is 01:07:07 Well, I wouldn't mind a finger pointed in the right direction, as we are about to begin our hike, but as for information, I wouldn't be so foolish as to ask you. Tall, pink, furry man. He who bows to the winds, your answer lies there.
Starting point is 01:07:32 He points in the direction of the jungle you were traveling already. I hold on. For all that you have done before, I thank you. Hm. Nevertheless, sorry to intrude upon your breakfast. I, um. Get visited by non-gods all the time.
Starting point is 01:07:56 Where do you go when you are not here? All over. Where are you going next? I think I'm going to visit an old friend. Who? That's a story for another time. Wherever I'm going, it's definitely ashy. I'm going to stay for a bit, it's bad on the skin.
Starting point is 01:08:18 Anyway, travel safe, friends. He steps back into the doorway where he originally emerged as the tree begins to Who's on the top floor, Council? Shh! You hear a distant scream as another falls down. Oh no! He said every time we ask somebody, Council dies.
Starting point is 01:08:36 Oh no. Don't do that. There he goes. You go backwards to the room. There goes Vex'ahlia as I block. Oh no! That's what he just did. Proper training, you can learn to the right. There goes Vex'ahlia as I block. Oh no! Vex'ahlia's dead. Proper training, you can learn to do that. All the vines pull back a bit,
Starting point is 01:08:52 but they don't entirely vanish. Instead, they form this beautiful vision of a doorway with all these beautiful flowers around it, like this intricately carved-looking art piece where the door once was on the outside of this tree. It seems so out of place amongst the chaotic jungle, and there in the center, see, beautiful glass relief in the shape of a carved deck.
Starting point is 01:09:17 I run up and I grab one of the flowers and I give it to Yasha. Did it spit out my monkey before it solidified? Yes, it did. It spit out my monkey before it solidified? Yes, it did. Spit out my monkey. Jester! That was nice. Are you okay?
Starting point is 01:09:32 Yes? Are you okay? It's going to take a little bit of time. I am not going to lie about that. Yeah. I feel a little confused. Of course, he was lying to you your whole life. Well, he didn't, though.
Starting point is 01:09:52 He never was like, Jester, I'm a god. I was like, oh my god, you're so powerful, you must be a god. I said it to him. He didn't correct you, that's the same as lying. Well, no. That's not the same correct you, that's the same as lying. Well, no. That's not the same as lying, that's just not saying. Well, we call it lying by omission.
Starting point is 01:10:11 At the same time, it has helped you complete many miracles, we have seen it. Yeah, I mean. I mean, I've never seen anyone that wasn't in the service to a god be able to do the things that I've done. Which is why I hope you have a sense of validation right now.
Starting point is 01:10:34 There's been this part of me for a long time that I was 100% convinced, I kind of talked about it before at one point, I think I did, or maybe I imagined it. You elicited the thread. That you created the Traveler. Like, he was a figment of your imagination that you just birthed and then went off and then did.
Starting point is 01:11:00 It's kind of all just you. Well, you think I could do that? Yeah. You kind of did. Because you kind of did. That's true. I feel kind of validated as you. Well, you think I could do that? Yeah. You kind of did. Because you kind of did. That's true. I feel kind of validated as well, so I hope you feel even more validated. He is super powerful the first time I saw him. I mean, like.
Starting point is 01:11:14 I don't know how we would verify that either. Well, I mean. You're super powerful. He was a little kid when I first saw him, and then he wasn't, and then he was, and then he wasn't. That was pretty powerful stuff. I've done that once, so I consider that to be very impressive.
Starting point is 01:11:32 You've done what once? I was a little kid and then I wasn't. Oh my god. Anyone can do that. But he wasn't a real little kid when he met you. That's how he befriended you. Oh yeah, he made himself appear that way. Yeah, well, yeah.
Starting point is 01:11:50 He told you what you needed to hear. Don't most gods? It sounds like you also told him what he needed to hear. No. Well. I mean, he clearly needs you, too. He's asking for your help at Traveler Con, but more than that, over the past, how old are you?
Starting point is 01:12:10 14, 15? I have no concept of it. 14 or 15. Well, I mean, that's how you act. Oh, do I really? No, you're just so cute. But for all that time, he's been coming back to you for a reason. He needs you.
Starting point is 01:12:28 He needs your validation and he needs your support. It's not that he just needs my validation and he needs my support. He likes me, we're friends. I know, but that's pretty impressive. Just so I could ask an important question. He's never asked you to harm anyone, right? All these tricks, they're not at the physical expense
Starting point is 01:12:44 of anyone, everyone's going to be safe and have a laugh afterwards, right? All these tricks, they're not at the physical expense of anyone, I mean, everyone's going to be safe and have a laugh afterwards, right? It's not ever going to end in someone being hurt. He definitely gives me the ability to hurt people. I mean, you guys have seen that. Yeah, but only in defense of yourself and us, not for giggles and shits. Fjord's got a point. I mean, that's not what he's after, you know?
Starting point is 01:13:06 I don't know about that. You heard him say, it's boring to him, just going out and killing someone. What's the point, right? Yeah, he's looking for fun. He's not looking to strangle anyone or something like that. Exactly. Been there, done that. You can hold it. Yeah, a cult is. I can't tell if you
Starting point is 01:13:21 walked up to that or not, I really can't. I mean, a cult is all well and good. I don't know a ton about them, but I do feel like, you know, the story on cults is that, I don't know, people normally die en masse. The only experience I have with cults outside of apparently my own is like. They're the raw virus.
Starting point is 01:13:43 Yeah, and they were real bad. Yeah, not great. I don't think that means that we have to be. Are we a cult? Oh man. He literally said you're a cult. I know what he said, Fjord. But I think this, I think Traveler Con
Starting point is 01:14:05 could be the deciding factor. But I think this, I think Traveler Con could be the deciding factor. It could be the turning point. Of what? Of making it a cult versus a religion. No, it's a cult. It's a cult. But we could make it a positive cult. We could make it...
Starting point is 01:14:23 Yes, this is the thing. We could look at this as not a problem, but a cult-a-tunity. Like an opportunity to make... A cult-a-tunity. To be good, to make these people have good lives. And, or at least, I don't know, that's a cult. I agree, well, the semantics, cult, religion,
Starting point is 01:14:47 what is very obvious is that he trusts in you, as do we. And if he is looking to you for guidance, if you are his number one, perhaps you have the ability to decide what this is in the world. Yeah, that's the thing, I think I do! You do. I mean, we got to figure this out, I mean, like.
Starting point is 01:15:07 Jester, how do you feel about all this? You thought he was a god before, he's not. It doesn't sound like he's even close. How do you feel about being able to decide what he will become? Well. I don't think he wants to be a god god. I think, I don't know,
Starting point is 01:15:38 I feel like it's a lot of pressure. I feel a little overwhelmed, I'm not going to lie. Wait, what does he really want, then? If he doesn't want to be a god? I think he wants the power. He enjoys the people, you know, worshiping him. He likes the compliments. Did get a sense of ego. I mean, it's understandable.
Starting point is 01:16:00 He's really powerful, he's super cool, and he's very handsome now that I've actually seen his face. It is as handsome as I thought it was going to be. I've never seen eyebrows quite that large. I wonder how he gets them like that. He should obviously tweeze a little. No, no, no. I mean, I'm just saying.
Starting point is 01:16:18 End of the day, it is an awful lot to process for you and for us, and perhaps maybe we, I mean, I feel like we're all picking at you quite a bit. Maybe you need just some time to mull it over. I'm going to be doing some meditation soon. Maybe you could join me. We can both meditate. Yeah. I'll be doing another guided meditation.
Starting point is 01:16:37 Everyone fell asleep in the last one. I didn't fall asleep. Wow, I fell asleep. Yeah. Okay. Regardless, we're here for you, and we trust you. Yeah. Yeah, and if you want to put on a great show for these people, we'll help you do it. Because it would be helping them, right?
Starting point is 01:16:58 I mean, how much of a bummer would it be if they all got out to Traveler Con, and then it was like, just kidding. Yeah, cheese sandwiches it was like, just kidding. Yeah, sandwiches and like a mattress on the ground or something. That would suck. No, but you are more creative than that, mate.
Starting point is 01:17:13 You just need some time to let this sink in. Yeah. Hey. Just give Jester a hug. Oh, bro. Thanks, bro. I'll join the hug. Oh, bro. Thanks, bro. I'll join the hug. Aw, thanks, man. Chaos hug.
Starting point is 01:17:30 Chaos hug. Yasha. All right, well, we were here for a reason. Should we? Oh, yeah. Should we continue on? Sorry, Caduceus, I didn't mean to hijack. There's no hijacking. This is all part of the journey.
Starting point is 01:17:53 This is good. This doorway is really beautiful, though. Isn't it? It's very impressive. It is very beautiful. It's a big dick. Also, it's a little dick in glass. Does that look like a big dick to you? Wait, what do you see?
Starting point is 01:18:12 Oh, you're right. Comparatively, yes. Huge dick. Someone can walk through that dick, yes. It's just a little dick on the door. The whole door isn't shaped like a dick. Oh, I thought there was a whole door. No.
Starting point is 01:18:28 I thought it was a... No, it's a door and there's a little glass relief. It's a big glass schlong. I'm just going to leave one of my Traveler shrines. Okay. You go ahead and set that at the base of the beautiful wooden door frame. You gather your things.
Starting point is 01:18:47 Are you guys heading deeper into the jungle in the direction that you were previously traveling? Just imagine the Grove from Nightmare Before Christmas and going down the. It's just like, where? What holiday is this exactly? Mushroom town. What's this? What's this?
Starting point is 01:19:08 There's penis everywhere. You're going right in. Yep. Oh, anyway. First off, who is, what's the marching order here as you continue into the jungle? Oh, okay, the front? In green robes, still. You got seven and a half more hours of it.
Starting point is 01:19:29 Sweet! All right. Camouflage. Fjord behind Caduceus. I might get some customization if you're going on that. Behind Fjord? I'd like a big mossy green, like kind of, almost like whatever would be like the swamp keylet, like swamp keylet special.
Starting point is 01:19:44 Okay, so the shoulders start to bristle. There's enough space through a lot of this jungle to travel pairs of two, so he doesn't have to be single file right now. So does that mean you want to put Fjord up front with Caduceus? Sure. And then Beauregard in the back, and who's with Beau? I will go with Beau. All right.
Starting point is 01:20:03 And that would probably be you. Empire kids! Where's Nott? Nott, where do you want to be? I'm going to be next to Yasha. Okay, I'll't go with Beau. All right, and that would probably be you. Empire kids! Where's Nott? Nott, where you want to go? I'm going to be next to Yasha. Okay, I'll go in the back. Just looking at my flask. Fair enough, okay. Eye level.
Starting point is 01:20:15 Jangling in front of me. Continuing on, the gentle, occasionally fading in and out sense of distant sea, ocean air meets with the earthy smell of ferns and plants and the general jungle scents that fill the space. Occasionally catching the sense of rotting citrus, as well as other elements of decay
Starting point is 01:20:42 that normally come across carcasses and other creatures that have been hunted or died, seemingly naturally, within the jungle. Caduceus, make a perception check. Actually, you and Fjord both make perception checks, please. Natural 20. Seven. 29. All. 29. All righty.
Starting point is 01:21:07 I'm just letting decompose go everywhere, by the way. I'm just leaving a trail. Okay. I'm in a mood. Interesting, no, okay. Salt my goggles again. Oh no, I'm fine. Continuing forward, you catch,
Starting point is 01:21:22 pretty early into the first hour or so of your travel, small patches of dark blue and purple fungus that's set in some of the trees, where an oddly colored mushroom grows out of a strange material that appears strung to or attached to elements of tree trunks and nearby rocks, just little patches of strange fungus. You seem odd. are you odd?
Starting point is 01:21:50 Hmm? I'm talking to this guy over here. Fjord? Yes. Oh. Make a nature check if you like. That's not useful, but here we go. If I'm going to nature check, I'm going to give myself a d4.
Starting point is 01:22:08 Who's up this? I suck at nature. Ooh, that's better. I rolled a 14, so 13. 13. No idea what this fungus is, unfortunately. It's different, and you're uncertain if it's natural in this space, because its coloration and its placement is very splotchy
Starting point is 01:22:29 and definitely contrasts with the general themes and coloration of the jungle around you. Tap it with the tip of my, I'm going to back up a bit and just tap a bit with the tip of my crystal staff. Okay. It shifts slightly, but doesn't seem to react from the impact. Does it resemble any kind of component
Starting point is 01:22:48 or ingredient that I ever worked with at the Academy? Make an arcana check. Oh jeez. Jumped up 14, 24. 24. No, actually. But not in a way that you don't recognize it. You're fairly certain in all of your research
Starting point is 01:23:05 that this is something that you cannot come across in your time at school, which lets you know that this isn't something that you've used previously or learned about as a material component. I pull out a small knife and just give it a little saw. Okay. Kind of cuts off a little bit. What you do catch as you're cutting through
Starting point is 01:23:27 is the fungus itself is pretty thick, but as you cut it away, behind it is almost a waxy-like substance, like a beeswax-type material that is coated over the section of the tree where the fungus is growing from. I will take that fungus and I will wrap it in some cloth and put it away.
Starting point is 01:23:44 Okay. And I will pull up fungus and I will wrap it in some cloth and put it away. Okay. And I will pull up some flame in my hand with a cantrip and just hold it close to the wax. Okay. It slowly begins to melt. You watch it drip down in these little beads. And as it begins to rapidly burn away due to your pressure and heat as it begins to rapidly burn away due to your pressure and heat,
Starting point is 01:24:07 it begins to give way to what looks like bones. Ooh. We're on the right track. We're on the right track? Yeah. What? Because the trees are made of bones? I feel like you're not sharing enough information. Do you mean the tree has bones, I feel like you're not sharing enough information.
Starting point is 01:24:28 Do you mean the tree has bones, or are there little bones shoved in there? No, the tree itself isn't bones, but the wax substance that is there that the fungus is growing out of, it looks like it's trapping in something that had bones. Oh. Little bones or big bones? Yeah, little chicken bones.
Starting point is 01:24:42 From what you're looking at right now, small bones. Make a nature check. Wait, so the fungus is growing out of the bones? Sorry, this is a medicine check for you. Medicine? Yes. 18? 18, okay. Damage to bones. There is damage to the bones.
Starting point is 01:24:58 They are scarred, pockmarked across the surface, and you gather the damage to be acidic in nature. Acidic damage. Killed the thing, and then they go to the glass. Something's going to do acid damage around here. Something's going to do acid damage around here. Anyone got stuff? I started looking around at plants
Starting point is 01:25:17 that look like they could shoot out the acid. So some sort of living thing is either collecting creatures and sealing them in after they have disposed of them or maybe it's a tree. We're going to be coming into contact with some very unusual creatures. Like man-eating plants?
Starting point is 01:25:33 Things that you've never seen before. Things that you've never seen before. Things that nobody's ever seen before. Fair enough, that's worse. ROUSs? Any stories in your family? I don't know any of know. Just the one. On my altar, you will feed these limbs to the beasts that water there,
Starting point is 01:25:51 so that they may hold my mark. Upon this site, you shall build a menagerie, whose beasts shall be my gift to the change bringer, to remind her that nature is infinite. We're going to see some interesting things, many of them possibly dangerous. Do we need to write stuff like that down for the Traveler, too?
Starting point is 01:26:11 I mean, like some really cryptic, like, It's honestly a good idea. It's like really good propaganda. That's good material. Yeah, it's not bad. Yeah, that was great. Will you help me? Did you write that? Did you write that stuff?
Starting point is 01:26:21 Of course not, these are the same stories that have been told in my family for generations. Same stories? The more highfalutin we are? Did you write that stuff? Of course not. These are the same stories that have been told in my family for generations. Same story! The more high-pollutant you are. Should we just say that we've had those for generations and share them with the rest of the people? Sure, 100. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait!
Starting point is 01:26:34 God, why do we keep doing? I'm keeping an eye out for whatever is being attracted. Okay, no worries. The group gets louder. Continuing on from this point, you don't see them often. Every five or so minutes, you'll see a few patches in an area.
Starting point is 01:26:52 You do come, they look to be relatively small, and even the bones that you pulled from that, they look to be probably of a larger rodent, a vole or some sort of a burrowing-type rodent creature. You do about another hour or so into travel. Once again, you're beginning to sweat beneath your armor. It's uncomfortable, but you're still keeping vigilant. Just even your passive perception,
Starting point is 01:27:15 you pick out, now that you know what to look for, one larger patch. It looks like a four-foot by three-foot patch that is actually bulbous on the side of a tree that sits where some rocks are pressed into its base roots off to the side. The fungus is larger. It's the same type of fungus, but it's growing,
Starting point is 01:27:32 and whereas previously it was small little stalks, some of them are three inches in diameter. The actual ends, the caps, are about that big. I'm keeping a resistance buff up as I walk. I recognize these things. Like what? Did we meet at Coachella? We can make a nature check.
Starting point is 01:27:58 Do we have an Instagram? Great feat. 10. 10. Sadly, you do not recognize these. No. Press on. On we go, I guess. Press on quietly. Keep an eye out.
Starting point is 01:28:19 Caduceus, Fjord both made perception checks once more for me. Fuck you. Oh, fuck you. Oh no. Six. 16. 16? For me, that's terrible. Okay, what you do see,
Starting point is 01:28:36 as you continue onward, about two more hours, one, there are a number of living creatures in this jungle that you see shifting through the boughs, that you see fleeing as you approach, the heavy footfalls as you crunch through the undergrowth, sending them scattering a bit. You're not being quiet.
Starting point is 01:28:59 You're not clomping through to make noise, but you're not carefully, steadily going through, unless you want to begin to do so. But you can see the woodland creatures and the various denizens scatter as they go. You begin to notice, beyond just these occasional patches, you begin to see what looks like
Starting point is 01:29:19 strange piles of freshly turned earth, bright red, vibrant earth, impressive in size, like maybe four or five feet from end to end, about two and a half feet tall. Like an anthill? Like an anthill type of a thing. You just come upon one just over-crossing an area, you see it about 35 feet ahead of you.
Starting point is 01:29:45 You keep an eye on the ground. Is it shifting? It is not shifting. What about the canopy of branches above us? I look up. You look up there, you see another patch of that waxy element that's softened. You can see part of it has melted away over time,
Starting point is 01:30:03 and you can see elements of a long, almost baboon-like skeletal arm that is mostly dissolved in decay that's hanging out of it, but the same fungus growing beyond it, and it's slowly eroding. Just in case, I'll activate Divine Sense within 60 feet.
Starting point is 01:30:20 Any Celestial Fiend or undead presence? Okay. You don't sense anything. I ask my mind Frumpkin to go scurrying up a tree and plant a hand on her shoulder and bamf into Frumpkin, and we'll go along for the ride to try to get close to this hill, this pile of dirt. If there is any vines or anything hanging down close to it,
Starting point is 01:30:50 I will let him scurry down that. If not, I'll let him chance his way on the ground to get a closer look. Okay. There's no vines directly above it. Well, there are a handful that are falling, but none that would lead directly to it. Frumpkin would have to leap down or probably step up towards it.
Starting point is 01:31:07 Uh, okay. That's what we will do. Frumpkin, at a tree closest to it, goes down to it and begins to slowly creep up, and I tell him to look over and inside. Perception check on Varnum. Never good. It is 12. Okay.
Starting point is 01:31:35 Looking at the pile, it does not appear to be moving. There does not appear to be any sort of cavernous, anthill-like entrances or tunnels. It looks very clean. I tell him to pick up just a random stone, if he can find one, and toss it in. Ooh! Throws it. No reaction.
Starting point is 01:32:01 I tell him to run into it and go around in a little circle and then scurry out. Okay. Runs back, nothing. I summon him back. I just had a look. I thought that it maybe would swallow him up, but nothing like that happened.
Starting point is 01:32:17 Good, right? I don't think that's their purpose. What do you think their purpose is? I think their's their purpose. What do you think their purpose is? I think their purpose is to either eat or digest what's already dead. Those mounds in front of us, they're earth, right? They're not huge piles of shit? It looks like freshly tilled earth,
Starting point is 01:32:43 though it's a bright red soil, which is very much contrasting against the jungle floor, but the jungle floor is mostly underbrush and decaying vegetation. You haven't probably seen raw, exposed dirt, and if you have, it may have had a reddish tint, but it's been a dirty red.
Starting point is 01:33:04 This is very fresh, bright, vibrant, clean red. Can I crouch down and just dig a little pit next to me and see if it's red underneath? Sure. Make a nature check. Okay. Natural one. Okay. I guess I'll have to take it.
Starting point is 01:33:24 Oh! Show your face. Okay. I guess I'll have to take it. MATT and LAURA and LAURA and LAURA and LAURA and LAURA show your face. Yep. Why are you getting dirt? You scoop through and it's loose. It isn't packed tightly and it just crumbles in your hands.
Starting point is 01:33:41 It's fresh earth. Is there anything? How big are the piles? It's about five feet from end anything helping out of the piles? It's about five feet from end to end and about two and a half feet tall total, so it's pretty. Can I use your staff? I don't want to stick my finger in it.
Starting point is 01:33:54 Put your staff in the middle and see if it helps. Why would I do that? What if there's something in there? I don't want to poke it. I'll just leave it alone. Yeah, sure, use your sword. Yeah, I wouldn't do that. I have one responsibility on this team.
Starting point is 01:34:08 I'll summon my sword and I'll poke the hill. Yeah. There's no fucking fire ants coming pouring out of that shit. Nope, not at all. Baby spiders. Can I pick some of it up and kind of mushel it? What if it's like a, add some water,
Starting point is 01:34:27 and it's like clay or something. Don't you have something to do with clay? Not here. It crumbles, it's very clean earth. Don't you pour my booze onto that? That's like four or five feet high. It's about two, two and a half feet high. And can we, have we looked up to see what,
Starting point is 01:34:44 has it dropped from anywhere, no? There's like a baboon-like carcass covered in wax up there. That's just poop. How many pounds of anything? You only see one right now. Don't take it. It's poop. Just one? It doesn't smell like poop. What if it's like old poop from a big elephant?
Starting point is 01:34:59 Well, this is cool. Wait, wait, wait, wait! Let's keep going. I'm going to dig around the, I'm going to go look at the dirt, not in the pile. I'm going to get rid of some of the leaves and foliage on the ground and see what color the ground is. Okay, you dig through. The earth itself beneath is a similar reddish color.
Starting point is 01:35:15 Oh. But it's all very suffused with dead vegetation and grayish decaying matter and roots that are thick and thin, like a network of plant capillaries that are just heavily sifted through. It looks like it's the same earth, but the earth you see in this pile is clean. What?
Starting point is 01:35:40 Clean dirt. Why would there be clean dirt here? It's got to be ants or something, right? Yeah. All like giant ants. I'll also cast Sea Invisibility with the sword out just for the next hour. You got it. Just in case, because jungles are creepy as fuck.
Starting point is 01:35:57 Okay. Let's just go around it. Yeah, keep going. And I'll be on the lookout for others. Okay. All right, so you guys continue to move forward. I swish my tail and try to bat some of it away as we walk past it.
Starting point is 01:36:13 Scatters easily. That's weird. Loose dirt as wanted to. Continuing on, about another 15 or 20 or so minutes, you immediately see another mound, similar coloration of clean dirt situated. About 30 feet beyond that,
Starting point is 01:36:41 you see a very large mass of this same waxy substance, probably about 12 foot high and maybe 13 foot end to end that is held between two trees. It's almost like blocking one pathway. It is covered in fungus, heavy, large fungus. Elements of it have spread onto the sides of the tree. Like a web? Or like a hive?
Starting point is 01:37:07 Like a giant cocoon. It's... Whoa, whoa, whoa. Well, I look around and they're like. Anything with sea invisibility or divine sense? Nothing with sea invisibility, nothing with divine sense. Wasps, flying creatures, flying things, flying...
Starting point is 01:37:24 Make a perception check. Yeah. The dirt pile is the new chair. Why am I rolling like ball sacks tonight? Nine. Ball sacks roll. Like garbage, clearly they have no grip. They actually do have.
Starting point is 01:37:45 I don't know. I don't have one. Depends on how well it's kept. It can do kegels. It's not bad, it's not bad, Grip. I was saying. Shit's devolving. Anyway. What is it?
Starting point is 01:38:02 You don't see anything wasp-like. You don't see any nests or hives or anything in the vicinity. Just the standard continuing growth. The fungus is growing more dense in some places. You can see smaller patches of this wax and that one large cocoon-type wax structure that you can see between the two trees.
Starting point is 01:38:25 Somebody light that thing up. Ooh, maybe just a little bit of fire to see how the wax is when it melts. That seems well. I could go more precise, but I would have to get right up to it, or I could throw a little bit from a distance. From a distance.
Starting point is 01:38:42 Well, maybe don't do the middle of it or anything. Just look for a little open patch of wax and see what it does. You know. We're just going to burn a bee's nest? A cocoon of some sort? Seems like a foolish thing to do. Is decompose touch, or is there some distance to it?
Starting point is 01:39:03 Do you want to look it up real fast? Do you have a chance? That's actually a very fair want to look it up real fast? Do you have a chance? That's actually a very fair point. Look it up. Roll. I have a thing. Testicle. Roll.
Starting point is 01:39:10 Stop. Dirt. Goddamn it, you guys. It's touched, never mind. Scorch, scorch. Yeah. Scorch. There's no movement coming from any of this.
Starting point is 01:39:24 There's no shifting. Not that you can tell, no. And the dirt pile. What if there's, like, are there any holes in the ground that we can see where the dirt would have come from? Like it's been displaced? Around it? Not necessarily. What if I go over and I move the dirt out of the way?
Starting point is 01:39:45 Is there a hole in the ground? Jester walks up to the mound and starts shifting large amounts of the dirt out of the way. It does continue below. The soft, clean earth goes a bit deeper beneath just the surface of the jungle. Oh. I feel. Oh. goes a bit deeper beneath just the surface of the jungle. Oh.
Starting point is 01:40:06 I feel. Oh. I'm going to go over and help her. Okay. Kind of just. It pushed back quite a bit. It takes you a little while to do so, probably about 20 or so minutes
Starting point is 01:40:16 to fully remove it from the top. Is it all just red or is there any other color? It's all red and it's all clean. It is lacking in any sort of the other bits of vegetation and organic matter that you see suffuse the dirt around it and the ground. Does it smell like regular old dirt? It does, it does.
Starting point is 01:40:36 When I touch it, if I put my hand into it and I cast Decompose, does anything, do I feel any? Nothing. It is pure, clean, red earth. I wonder if we are dealing with some sort of oversized earthworm or the like chewing its way through and cleaning what it leaves behind. I don't, hmm.
Starting point is 01:40:58 Maybe it goes down a bit, you dug in a ways. Yeah, I... We got pretty far. Wonder what would happen if you got in it. That far down? Far down? I mean, you get down about three feet and it's still going. Whoa.
Starting point is 01:41:17 Pretty far. We cannot make out what is in this giant gob of wax you have described here? Not at this distance, no. No. Only if we had a capuchin monkey that would dig down into this hole and... I'm going to go look at this thing.
Starting point is 01:41:30 Well, or we could completely go around it. Here we go. What about the big waxy cocoon? No one's going to poke the thing. I wonder if it has to do with you, Caduceus? What does the cocoon have to do with you? Shoot one of your fucking arrows at it. Sure, I'll shoot an arrow.
Starting point is 01:41:46 What? A cacom? Why? It's just going to, I mean, there's either something in there or not. I totally agree. You shooting a bolt into it? Well, I'll wait until I have quorum. This is a holy site. This is a place of death.
Starting point is 01:42:01 Oh, okay, well then I'm not going to do it. How do you know that? This is where I'm going. So, okay, well then I'm not going to do it. How do you know that? This is where I'm going. So all of this is a holy place? This is your place? We're not there yet, but. Well, then it's not all a holy place. This may be part of it.
Starting point is 01:42:18 Well, what are we supposed to do with it? What does your old story say? I don't talk about it. Should we shoot it or not? While everyone's been debating. Frumpkin on two legs just slowly stumbled up while they debated and is already there. And I'm going to have him just crawl up a bit and go.
Starting point is 01:42:38 To the Waxy Cocoon? Yeah. It taps. Just like a hard, waxy shell. There's a lot of fungus around. Is it all that same kind of fungus, or is it all different kinds? It's the same kind of purplish-blue fungus, just much larger, and it's in patches.
Starting point is 01:42:55 It's not completely covering it, but a lot of it, probably about 60 or 70% of it is covered by the patches of it. I'm going to walk up to a little bit of it and put out my staff and... Do you play well with others? I'm going to invite it into my staff to see if they get along. It doesn't seem to respond.
Starting point is 01:43:19 Mm. Interesting. Oh, well. And it doesn't respond to Frumpkin skittering all over it, knocking on it with his little monkey paws. Frumpkin has been skittering through. Do you want Frumpkin to physically jostle the fungus? He could cover it up and, yeah, just give it a little. Okay. See if it doesn't.
Starting point is 01:43:38 Frumpkin gives a heavy jostle to one of the larger mushrooms, at the caps there, and it pulls back in a little bit, recoils slightly. Then this cloud of spores Caduceus? Comes out about a three or four foot range from that cap. Caduceus?
Starting point is 01:44:00 Go ahead and roll a constitution saving throw for Frumpkin. Frumpkin, oh sure. That'll go well. We're not by these spores, right? We're not close to these spores. Don't irritate the pumpkin. Please don't turn us into clickers. Constitution, you say?
Starting point is 01:44:12 Yeah. 10. 10. Frumpkin is poisoned. Poisoned? Aw. Does it take any instant damage or is it just? No damage, it's just poison. Oh, is he going to poof in like six seconds? No, if there's no damage, he's not. That poison does make to poop in like six seconds? No, if there's no damage, he's not. Some poison does make you poop in like six seconds.
Starting point is 01:44:29 There is talk of an oasis in a red and gold-veined cave. Red and gold. Maybe this is what that's from. They're just stories, is the trouble. I've never seen it personally. Don't oases usually have water? They do.
Starting point is 01:44:47 Hmm. But red and gold? Red and gold. I don't see any gold, though. But red like the soil? Red like the soil. What if we melt the wax and it turns yellow? I don't think that's a...
Starting point is 01:45:03 I don't know if she's got a point. Isn't it a problem if Frumpkin is poisoned? I mean, to... Well, he has never been poisoned. I don't know. Are you okay? SAM and LAURA, LAURA and SAM, I'll bring him over here.
Starting point is 01:45:16 I'll call Frumpkin over, and I'll Lay on Hands for Frumpkin, and... He leaps onto Caduceus' staff and fire him in, down, and then scurs over to Fjord. Okay. We'll use Lay on Hands for the first time and neutralize a poison if we get a closer look. Oh, you can do that? What? So you use five points
Starting point is 01:45:32 of your, I think it's five, right? Five hit points of your hand. You use that many? How many times can you do that a day? Twice, technically, I think, so it's five per level. You wasted it on Frumpkin. What if one of us gets poisoned? He's an animal lover. Frumpkin takes chances, I like that.
Starting point is 01:45:48 Sprinkle, go check out that waxy stuff. And Sprinkle, who is still poofed up, this furred collar around the back of Jester's head, just recoils deeper into her coat. Like,. He's not going to do it. You guys want to keep moving? What do you want to do?
Starting point is 01:46:11 Did that cure Frumpkin of poison? Yeah, Frumpkin is no longer poisoned. Oh, hey, you are with Fjord today, and he skitters up, leg all the way up to the top of his limbs and sits on his shoulder. Could you just tell us, what do you want us to do? Do you want us to leave it alone, or do you want us to keep going?
Starting point is 01:46:25 Do you want us to fuck with this cocoon thing, what? My instinct is to leave it alone. All right, then let's keep going. Let's keep going. Okay. But it's good imagery for your religion. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm right. I'm drawing all of these things.
Starting point is 01:46:42 Where the wax drips, lord! In my sketchbook or something. You don't want to melt the wax you could feel. Let me see what's underneath it. I mean, I do. Get some distance from it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, back up. Let's get like, yeah, you know, 50 or 60 feet back.
Starting point is 01:46:55 All right. But what if it has to do with Caduceus' stuff and then we ruin his whole family religion? Well, you are leading this expedition, so really, what do you want to do here? If you want to take a look inside from a distance, I will trust your judgment. I honestly, I'm not an expert.
Starting point is 01:47:11 That's very generous of you, we do. I'm not an expert here, I just know what I do. Okay, well, I will start by just taking 30 seconds to throw three or four fire bolts. Bolts. Okay. It's a large enough target where you don't need to worry about rolling for it necessarily.
Starting point is 01:47:27 You just launch it and and they slam into it like these tiny fiery missiles. These as it impacts. The first one hits further up and exposes some of the wax and immediately breaks off and melts at the same time. You can see a bit of darker reddish-brown fur exposed, though matted. One of the falling ones hits the midsection,
Starting point is 01:47:51 and as it hits, the wax melts away, leaving a hole, and immediately, some liquid begins to just pour out of it. Some mildly greenish, blackish, thick sludge-like liquid that's spilling out of the hole down the side of the wax over the mushrooms and going down. Are you a pupa or something? Serpy suicide.
Starting point is 01:48:19 Did we kill it? Are we killing something? No. You're putting a baby that's growing in there. I think it's decomposing. I think it's just decomposing. Now the smell hits you. Oh! An extremely grotesque, strong, putrid decay.
Starting point is 01:48:38 As you can see, as the wax melts and the liquid comes to spill out of it, you get the sense that whatever was captured in there, based on the acid damage you saw on the bones earlier, has been slowly dissolving inside this cocoon, and what has been dissolving has now been pouring out of the hole that you left in its side. So there was a little bit of fur left at the top,
Starting point is 01:48:59 but further down, further down. You still don't know quite what this creature is, you've only exposed the little elements of it, but the smell is awful. But the creature is really big. Most of you guys begin quite what this creature is. You've only exposed the little elements of it. Oh, wow. But the smell is awful. But the creature is really big. Most of you guys begin to start just heaving. We should head out. The creature is big. And whatever it was that did this is even bigger.
Starting point is 01:49:13 Who? Yeah. We're going to keep him up. Let's go. I was dead for a prank. You continue on your path. While we walk, I keep an eye towards the canopy. Just make sure. Okay. I would say Caduceus and Jester.
Starting point is 01:49:33 You would begin to hear, as you guys move on about 30, 40, 50 feet from this, try to get away from the smell. The smell seems to almost be chasing you. It's just filling this area of the jungle. You begin to hear a Oh no. A little ways off in the distance.
Starting point is 01:49:55 Oh, wildlife. We're going to get cocooned. I'm going to gesture everything to hide. You start hearing bushes shifting? To hide behind trees in the opposite direction and prepare. We should hide. We should hide. Okay, I'll hide. In the trees?
Starting point is 01:50:13 Not on the ground? It's probably going to come. You hear distant ferns and bushes and leaves and other elements of the forest floor being jostled and moved just outside of your perimeter. Just. I'm going to light up the sword. The sword lights up.
Starting point is 01:50:31 You hear a heavy wood sound, and you see, just out of the right side of where you are, Caduceus, you see these bladed legs climb up the side of a tree and just curve around to look. You see what looks to be roughly the size of a wolverine or a large badger, but its body is this chitinous insect-like plate,
Starting point is 01:50:59 pale white, almost translucent. Its legs, coming to these arched, dagger-like points pale white, almost translucent. Its legs coming to these arched, dagger-like points as it climbs up the side of the tree. Its tail goes behind it in this long, almost lobster-like fashion that comes in two pincer-like blades. You cannot see where a face would be. It's just a bald, armored front.
Starting point is 01:51:23 It. Then disappears bald, armored front. It. Then disappears up into the tree. You just hear more and more of the jungle moving around you. Oh boy. Everyone back to back. Drawn probably by the exposed smell of a long, simmering meal that's now been left to spill on the jungle floor. Back to back!
Starting point is 01:51:44 That's where we're going to take a break. Ah! A long, simmering meal that's now been left to spill on the jungle floor. Back to back! And that's where we're going to take a break. Ah! Wow. Oh, you're so ugly. It's making me think of those fuzzy millipedes you find in the bathroom sometimes. You know what I'm talking about?
Starting point is 01:51:57 Oh, boy. Ugh, bro. You mean the silverfish? You were just the silverfish. Silverfish. Yes. Very much the inspiration you wanted. You were really, really hoping we would mess with it, weren't you?
Starting point is 01:52:07 Yeah, I was. You were just sitting there going, poke me. You're welcome. Yeah, that's what I do. I put stuff there and say, you going to poke me? Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad. You guys almost left and I was like, all right, cool. I'm going to skip this encounter. I'm not going to pretend I didn't know
Starting point is 01:52:20 how this was going to end. Of course. I want to see what's in the corner of that video game. We just needed to poke that chair just a little bit longer. Sometimes you get information, sometimes you get loot, sometimes you get cool encounters, sometimes you draw a bunch of creatures. We have our one-word giveaway tonight,
Starting point is 01:52:34 the fantastic Purple Heart Dice Vault. A Scaling Wood special goes to one lucky winner tonight. The keyword tonight is gateway. One word, gateway. Enter it once, and once only, more than once, you'll be disqualified. Once again, for people in the U.S. and Canada only, excluding Quebec,
Starting point is 01:52:52 we'll come back here shortly with the winner and the rest of tonight's session. See you soon. Hello, Critters. Starting point is 01:53:53 So first, we have our winner of the Wyrmwood giveaway. The winner is 19infectious19. 19infectious19. 19infectious19, congratulations. We'll get that sent to you, ASAP. It was a good year. It was. We just said Beetlejuice's name twice. Oh my god.
Starting point is 01:54:11 So. You guys have gathered back to back, aside from Nott, who rolled stealth for me. Oh yeah. Does she have advantage in her Traveler Illusory Cloak? She's advantage because of her cloak anyway. Right, it's because of the cloak. It was, why can't I find stealth?
Starting point is 01:54:31 Oh, there it is. 24. Okay, good to know. Everyone, roll initiative, please. I'm going to invulnerate Duplassity. I was going to do that as you were coming up, but it's fine if I didn't say anything. I'll say... I'll say roll initiative.
Starting point is 01:54:49 Are we all rolling initiative? You're all rolling initiative. I say I'll say. I'll say. I love dealers. It's not a stressor. You won't be interested in the highlight? Okay, dealers are good with backpacks.
Starting point is 01:54:59 25 to 20. 24. I want to dry erase. Oh. I'm missing for a bit. 20 to 15. 24, I want to dry erase. Oh! I'm missing for a bit. 20 to 15. 17. Am I the highest? No, Beau is the highest. All right.
Starting point is 01:55:16 15 to 10. 10. Eight. Oof. Wow, what the fuck, you guys. All right. 10 to five. Oh, seven, excuse me. Six.
Starting point is 01:55:27 Who did that? Six. Are we both six? Yeah. Shit. All right, who has the higher dexterity? Me. Yeah. My next is 12. And what did you roll, Yasha? I rolled a 10.
Starting point is 01:55:39 Always M. All righty. 100%. So, beginning at this, you've only seen one of these creatures that climbed up into this tree. Beau, you're up. Oh boy-sies, okay.
Starting point is 01:55:58 He went up here? Up into this tree right here. Into that tree? Do I go after him? Okay. Yeah, yeah, fuck it. Let's just go for it. Let's just go up the tree.
Starting point is 01:56:12 What? Yeah. Yeah. Back the back bump, back the... All right. I want to see what it is! Okay, as you rush past and head up in the tree. Oh, stop, I'm going to peek. You do come face to face with one of these creatures. Whoa, there's a group!
Starting point is 01:56:31 What is it, what is it, what was it? It's like an albino crab. Oh, it's straight up like a silverfish. Yeah, okay. Don't like it. So you run up the tree, up and down, and it's right there. I found it! Okay. I grab it, and I's right there. I found it.
Starting point is 01:56:45 Okay. I grab it, and I'm just going to spike it to the floor right to the group. Okay, so you're going to go ahead, and we'll say it's a shove attack. So go ahead and make an attack roll. Okay. Or actually, this should be...
Starting point is 01:56:57 You're going to throw the thing down there with us. I want to show you guys what it is. Just hold it out. I'm being very progressive right now. Are you going to spike it to where you try to do some damage as it hits them? Make an athletics check. Pop.
Starting point is 01:57:09 Okay. It's a bug. It's a bug. Bugs are really important. Stray athletics? Yep. Okay. 14.
Starting point is 01:57:18 Seven. 15. 15. You succeed. As soon as it pulls back, being part of its pointed legs upward, you just grab one and chuck it out you did it. You succeed. As soon as it pulls back, being part of its pointed legs upward, you just grab one and chuck it out of the tree. It's gross!
Starting point is 01:57:31 It falls prone on the ground right there. Ew. And it would take, I'd say at that fall there, it's about 20 or so feet, seven points of bludgeoning damage. So I'm like, we're already winning. Yeah, it's on the ground, about to get itself righted or trying to. Can I still do stuff?
Starting point is 01:57:50 Yeah, you're up in the tree still. Can I still do stuff? Can I, how far up am I? 20 feet. 20 feet. But you moved 10 feet to get there. Yeah, yeah. So you've used 30 feet of your movement. Can I vault off the ropes, the tree,
Starting point is 01:58:09 and backflip, and then people's elbow down into the silver? Oh, well, yeah. So roll an acrobatics check. Okay. Let me tell you something, brother. Natural 20. So you throw it something, brother. Natural 20. So you throw it down, you see it hit the ground,
Starting point is 01:58:30 you reach up and grab the branch above and release after one full revolution in the air, you guys watch, jettisoning out from the side of the treeline, this spinning, tumbling, Beauregard freight train coming elbow down. So you will not take any fall damage. Cool.
Starting point is 01:58:51 With safe fall and everything, you're pretty damn good as a monk. Go ahead and roll your second attack. With Beauregard-less. Yeah, that's what you get. Seriously? Roll a one on damage. Super cool when you double it to two.
Starting point is 01:59:05 We have to roll the, well, that was your acrobatics check was the critical. You haven't rolled a hit with the second attack yet. Oh, good. Cool, cool, cool. That doesn't count. Cock, that's a cock. So roll for an attack. Okay, 22. Because it is prone,
Starting point is 01:59:20 attack rolls against it have advantage, so it, you get a 22. 22, 22, twice. So you hit, go ahead and, What the fuck? There you go. All one on the same dice. All right, so. So, Sam.
Starting point is 01:59:34 Don't high-five that above me! Like, that was cool, dope bro shit! Don't you like it? The cool part is that we laugh cruelly at you at the same time. Friendship. Oh, so good. I just imagine your pain is our enjoyment.
Starting point is 01:59:50 How much damage is that? Seven. See, we feel better because you feel worse. Yeah, it's a Shining Roida. I get it, I get it. So wham, landing and slamming your elbow into the bottom of its exposed carpus underneath you, you're like, pulls back and its legs curl in.
Starting point is 02:00:07 You withdraw and get back to your feet. You still have your bonus action. Oh, okay. Pop pop, flurry of blows. Go for it. Okay, first one is 26, second one is 12. 12 misses. Okay. Good to know.
Starting point is 02:00:25 Nine damage. Nine damage, all righty. 26, second one is 12. 12 misses. Okay. Good to know. Nine damage. Nine damage, all righty. So after you get it from the elbow, you bring your leg up and do an axe kick down onto it. Crack, it hits and kind of sits there shrieking in its space. You pull your leg up and it pulls away, and your second impact ends up hitting the dirt below it,
Starting point is 02:00:43 the soft impact against the rotted floor. You do, however, as part of the Extract Aspects, you got a quick glance after the second impact, your ki went into it, and you're able to read its body essence. It is resistant to acid and necrotic damage, and it is immune to being frightened or charmed. Okay, okay.
Starting point is 02:01:06 Okay. Okay. I communicate that. All right, Beau, that finishes your turn. Fjord, you're up. It's still prone, correct? The white scorpion is? It is still prone. It's still prone. I will take two swings at it with the Star Razor. With advantage, yes?
Starting point is 02:01:23 Yep, are you moving over into this space here, or are you moving through to this side? I'll go over to that other side. Like over here? No, I'm sorry, where you were before. Oh, gotcha. I like the foliage is so thick that it's genuinely hard to see, in a good way.
Starting point is 02:01:36 Yeah, make you work for it, yeah. I like it. First one is a 26. This is with advantage, too, because it's prone. Yes. Yeah. 26, and the second one is a 24. Both hit. Great.
Starting point is 02:01:49 So we'll roll a 1d2. That's, yeah, okay. La la la, that's 16 points of slashing damage. And da da da da da. That's the old point. 15 points. All right. So 31 total. So you rush past, striking once with the blade as it swings through.
Starting point is 02:02:12 You can see it cuts open its outer shell, exposing a deeper purplish-type musculature underneath the armor, and you bring the blade down, thrusting it into the weak space and turn the blade, and as it does, the arms all curl in and it is dead. Nice. That was easy. Easy encounter.
Starting point is 02:02:30 One down. Wonderful. We'll take a long rest. That's it. All right, cool, guys. Well, thanks. Does any liquid come out of the creature of any color, viscous form, anything like that? Similar purplish fluid, as is blood, as is its interior. But you hear that sound still sifting
Starting point is 02:02:47 off the jungle around you. Cool, cool, cool. So is that your turn? Yes, that's my turn. No bonus action. Okay. Now, you've seen the color of that creature, that eerie, creepy, pale white, milky texture to its body and shell.
Starting point is 02:03:03 You now see more of it, dots of it, moving through the underbrush. You hear them communicating and clicking. Oh no. They begin to rush forward. Oh god. Oh no, oh no! They're so close already, how did they get here?
Starting point is 02:03:24 They go on after Fjord's turn, I guess? They do. You guys rolled Really Shitty Initiative and they rolled decently. Because they're pretty quick. Oh man, there's so many of them. Yep. All righty. So these two here are going to use
Starting point is 02:03:43 their Wax Tomb ability. Wax Tomb? Tomb. Oh noes! 15, that's... Back to back was a very bad idea. Fjord, Caduceus, Beauregard, and Jester, I need you all to make a dexterity saving throw, please.
Starting point is 02:04:00 I'm burning my... I do like saving throw, but I thought that was a bit... Saving throw extra. 20. 20. You take seven points of acid damage and are not restrained. Beauregard. 12.
Starting point is 02:04:19 12. You take 14 points of acid damage and you are restrained. You can see as they vomit outward, You take 14 points of acid damage and you are restrained. You can see as they vomit outward, this thick, almost steaming, viscous liquid as it splatters, it hardens into a wax-like shell. You are currently stapled to the log behind you
Starting point is 02:04:39 in the ground, your legs are stuck to the ground and you're having to try and pull and break out of it as it's hardening around you, burning you and holding you in place. Jester? Dexterity? Yes. 10. 10, you also take 17 points of acid damage,
Starting point is 02:04:55 and you are also restrained, held in place by the waxy substance. Caduceus? 16. 16, you take seven points, and you are not restrained. Seven points of acid damage. This guy here is going to spray this way. Oh boy, they've all got it. Damn it.
Starting point is 02:05:17 I need Yasha, Caleb, Caduceus, Fjord, and Jester to all roll another dexterity saving throw. There's a lot of them. Natural 20! Youord, and Jester to all roll another dexterity saving throw. There's a lot of these guys. Natural 20! Another dexterity saving throw. You have disadvantage, Jester. I don't suppose I get to knock one of these, okay. 16. 16.
Starting point is 02:05:34 That is, yeah, another seven points of acid damage and you are not restrained. Natural 20. Natural 20. Seven points, not restrained. 15. 15? Seven points, you are still restrained. Natural 20, 21. Whoa! Nice, not restrained. 15. 15, seven points, you are still restrained. Natural 20, 21. Whoa! Nice, seven points
Starting point is 02:05:48 of acid damage. 22. Seven points of acid damage. Nice. Three more. I cannot believe we did this to ourselves. These two are fiends who are attacking on Caleb. Oh, good. And with pack tactics, they have advantage on their attacks.
Starting point is 02:06:08 Bite and a claw attack against you, Caleb. Okay. That is a 14. Does not hit. And that is a 21. Hits. All right. It tries, you watch that,
Starting point is 02:06:22 or you didn't see the face before, it was like this solid shell. Underneath, these watch that, or you didn't see the face before, it was this solid shell. Underneath, these two jaw-like pincers rear up and it folds open underneath, revealing a bladed jaw that's normally hidden and folded inward. It tries to bite towards you and you hold it back with your foot
Starting point is 02:06:40 and as you kick it away, one of its slicing claws scrapes the back of your leg, and you take 14 points of slashing damage. The other one, now, as you back up, there's one right behind you, and that's going to be a 25 to hit. That hits. And an 18 to hit.
Starting point is 02:07:00 Shield. All right. The shield goes up. It attempts to bite towards you. The secondary one, its jaw is open. Okay, and that is seven points of piercing damage plus eight points of acid damage. As its jaws sink into the side of your elbow and arm and you have to rip your arm away from it
Starting point is 02:07:22 as it begins to dissolve and eat the inside of your arm. It attempts now to claw at you, and you put the shield up, ends up knocking it back with a flash of arcane resistance as you pull back, clutching your elbow. The last one's going to be attacking you, Beauregard. It has advantage because you are restrained. That is going to be a 14 to hit.
Starting point is 02:07:44 Miss. And a 20 to hit. Miss. And a 20 to hit. Hits. All right. Its claws come at you for 14 points of slashing damage. You're trying to pull away and it bites at you. You manage to push it just back with one free arm,
Starting point is 02:08:00 but it manages to scrape across your forearm with both of its front blades, blood now pouring out of your forearm as you withdraw yourself, trying to break free. That finishes their turn. Yasha, you're up, Nott, you're on deck. Okay, so the one nearest to me, I would like to take the skin gorger
Starting point is 02:08:17 and try to pierce it through so it's stuck to the ground. Go for it. This is full rage, or? Oh, I would like to rage. Oh, sorry, yeah. Sorry? Okay. Sorry.
Starting point is 02:08:30 No, don't you be sorry. I'm just kidding. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Let me see. Plus 28. 28 hits. Okay.
Starting point is 02:08:42 First attack. I don't want to, I mean, if you're restrained, can you attack? You can attack, you just have disadvantage on your attacks. Okay. But your speed is zero, you cannot move. Attacks against you have advantage. 22 for the first hit. Ooh, nice.
Starting point is 02:09:00 Second attack. Yeah, go for it. Okay. 24. Hits. Okay. 15 points of damage. 15 points of damage. This one, after it sprayed this thick, sticky fluid
Starting point is 02:09:22 onto your friends that set them on the ground, the steam rising up as it burns and hardens. You come back and swipe once with a skin gorger, cutting into its body. The second time, you split it in half. Both sides crawl for a second before going still. Yeah! Oh, I hate these things.
Starting point is 02:09:40 You still have your movement, if you want. You are not currently engaged with any of them. You killed the one that was next to you. There's no way that blood acts as a... Okay, I will move a little bit to the other side of the one closest to me. So over here? Yes. All righty.
Starting point is 02:10:00 So you go ahead and move the flank of one. Maybe not right by the stinger, but... Right there? Yeah. Okay, you got it. Still flanking, though. Yep, still flanking with Fjord ahead and move the flank of one. Maybe not right by the stinger, but. Right there? Yeah. Okay, you got it. Still flanking, though. Yeah, still flanking with Fjord. Finishes the ostrich's go, Nott, you're up.
Starting point is 02:10:10 Caleb, you're on deck. From the cover of the underbrush, I will fire a crossbow bolt at the one next to Caleb. Before that happens. You're sitting there hiding right next to these mushrooms, and as you're getting your bolt ready, the one next to you releases a cloud of spores, make a constitution saving throw at the start
Starting point is 02:10:32 of your turn. Oh no. Oh no, Beau, you're a five, one, two! Six, you are poisoned. You can make your attack. You are hidden, but you are poisoned, so it makes it a single roll and does not have advantage. But what are you attacking? I'm attacking the one next to Caleb,
Starting point is 02:10:49 but if I'm rolling at disadvantage, it is not a sneak attack. Well, it's advantage because it doesn't know it's there. It doesn't know you're there because you were hidden, so it's just a straight roll. Even so, because it's adjacent to one of your allies, it still would be sneak attack damage. Should I hit just poison condition, or do I take damage? No damage, just poison condition, which means your allies. Okay. It still would take. It still would be sneak attack damage. Should I hit just poison condition
Starting point is 02:11:05 or do I take damage? No damage, just poison condition. Which means your attacks and. All right, 25 to hit. That hits, yeah. So sneak attack. Not great, not great. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:11:17 12, 17, 22 plus. Six is 28. 28 points of damage. I don't think I get Fury of the Small because they are small. They are considered medium creatures. Ooh! Sweet. So I could.
Starting point is 02:11:36 Hmm. Nah. Okay. As you cough for a second and release the bolt from your crossbow, it sticks in the back of the creature, curls onto its side, and then jumps back in place, skittering to see where it came from. Doesn't quite seem to notice where you are,
Starting point is 02:11:50 but it's still alive. Give your bonus action still. I will fire again at it. Go for it. And now this is a disadvantage. Correct. Because you are no longer hidden. Okay, still 24.
Starting point is 02:12:03 Still hits. Wow. And another 11 points of damage. 11 points of damage. You sink this one into where its head would be, though its jaws are no longer exposed, and as it sinks in, it just onto the ground, no longer moving. I will leave that cover place.
Starting point is 02:12:22 I don't want to be more poisoned. Can you be more poisoned? There's only one way to find out. I will leave. Where are you going? And run over near, behind Yasha. Okay, move over in that space there. All righty, you got it. That finishes your turn? Yep.
Starting point is 02:12:38 Caleb, you're up, Jester, you're on deck. Okay. Okay, I stumble back, totally wrecked from the thing that attacked me, pulling increments out of my bag, and iron dust goes through the air, and I pull my hands apart, and Beauregard doubles in size, hopefully breaking out of whatever she is in.
Starting point is 02:12:56 I will say that that... She doubles in size. Because it makes sense, yeah. Thematically? Yeah. So you, pushing back, the rotted log behind you rolls, exposing a bunch of the earth beneath it, and you see dozens of insects scatter from underneath
Starting point is 02:13:17 the wet, exposed earth that was beneath the log. There you are. I am going to chance a hit and try to get away from the thing and go up by those mushrooms. Up here? Up there you are. And I am going to chance a hit and try to get away from the thing and go up by those mushrooms. Up here? Up there, yeah. All right, so five, 10, 15, 20 over here. Yeah, that's good.
Starting point is 02:13:33 All righty. It's going to go ahead and take a swipe at you. We'll say with its bite, yes. Is this until the end of your next turn or the beginning of your next turn? Oh jeez. Double check that. You've never asked me that question before. Until the start of your next turn or the beginning of your next turn? Oh jeez. Double check that. You've never asked me that question before. Until the start of your next turn.
Starting point is 02:13:48 So you no longer have shield. Oh, okay. That is going to be a 21 to hit. That hits. All right. So you take 13 points of piercing damage and five points of acid damage. Okay. As it bites out at you,
Starting point is 02:14:06 its head opening up once more to the split jaw and the belated tusks that come forward and sinks into the side of your leg as you try and pull away and you stumble in the direction, getting off to the side of the mushrooms, holding back the pain. Caleb's a bloody mess. All right, that's the end of Caleb's turn.
Starting point is 02:14:22 Jester, you're up. Caduceus, you're on deck. Okay. Am I still restrained, by the way? You're still restrained. Oh, you, no, you never became restrained, I don't think. No. No. No, I didn't. Oh shit. It was both times.
Starting point is 02:14:35 Okay. I am going to cast... I'm going to cast Spiritual Guardians! All righty. So certain. I'm going to hold my hand with the Traveler symbol on the wrist and I'm going to be like, okay, well, let's do this.
Starting point is 02:15:00 All righty, puts it about there. There's Beau. Okay, Spiritual Guardians. So I'm catching that at fourth level. Fourth level. Suddenly, this darkened edge of the forest is alight with what I assume to be dozens of extremely swole, tiny, angry pink unicorns
Starting point is 02:15:17 or hamsters. What are you doing this time? Oh, the hamster unicorns. There you go. Sure, sure. All right. And they're now just zipping through and attempting to pierce any creature that comes near. Oh, the hamster unicorn. Hamster unicorn. Yeah, sure, sure. All right. I'll choose one. They're now just zipping through and attempting to pierce any creature that comes near. That's your action, are you staying put?
Starting point is 02:15:31 Well, can I try to break? Oh no, you're restraining. Yeah, can I try to? It's an action to try and break free. It's been your action to cast, so you are remaining. Coo-coo-coo-coo! Is that your turn? I mean, I guess so.
Starting point is 02:15:43 All right, Caduceus, you're up. Beauregard, you're on deck. I'm going to do an old favorite. Can I touch Beauregard without triggering an attack from any of these creatures? Yeah, you're right next to her. She's just much bigger right now. This is going to be funny.
Starting point is 02:16:00 Holy Weapon. Aw! I hope I don't fuck this up. Okay. I was trying to think of something I haven't done in a while. I haven't done that in a while. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:16:11 All right, Caduceus is concentration. What you getting? Jester, use concentration. You get an extra 2d8. Actually, that's a bonus action, too, which is kind of crazy. I'll put this on Beauregard as a reminder of the holy weapon.
Starting point is 02:16:25 You just can't do any of the spells. Yeah, I still have an, I can do a cantrip or a, so I'm going to use my cantrip to, I can Sacred Flame still, since that's an action, that was a bonus action, that's a cantrip, so. Can I Sacred, that's a cantrip and a spell, or no? It's not a cantrip you can do. Sacred Flame is an action, though, not a bonus action? It's a cantrip and a spell, or no? A spell and a cantrip you can do.
Starting point is 02:16:45 Sacred Flame is an action, though, not a bonus action? It's a bonus action. No, Sacred Flame is an action. You just go. Correct. But Holy Weapon's a bonus action. Oh, that, then you could definitely, in my life, I don't know. What are you Sacred Flaming?
Starting point is 02:16:57 Well, is anything, who's threatening Caleb? Uh, no. Right now, Caleb ran off to the side. He's hurt, but he's run off. I'll do the one that's in front of me that's not going to get attacked by Yasha. Yeah, I'm going to do the one that's behind me, right there. You got it. I'm just going to give it
Starting point is 02:17:15 a little second flame. Dexterity saving throw. Oh man, that rolled shitty. That's an eight. Oh, so you take, oh shit, I do a lot of damage on this thing, is that right? Man, it's been a while. 3d8, apparently.
Starting point is 02:17:29 Cat trips. That's terrible, 14 points of radiant damage. 14 points of radiant damage. The radiant flame burns around its body, it shrinks back, you can hear the squeaking sound of some of its armored shell squeezing a little bit. Back off, buddy. Still standing there.
Starting point is 02:17:48 Yeah, and I'm just going to keep where I am. All right, you got it. Caduceus' turn is done. At the top of the round, Beau, before you go, the skittering sounds continue to grow while they're not taking their turn yet. Oh man, more? More begin to appear out of the nearby brush. God, what are we going to do? Oh noes.
Starting point is 02:18:12 Oh's noes, oh no! Great. Oh no! Hell, it's not fine. Wait, what? There we go. This could be bad. They haven't taken their turn yet. Beau, you're up. Your fists are glowing with radiant, divine,
Starting point is 02:18:27 Melora the Wildmother Bless energy. You can feel the vibration between your fingers. I spin my staff with a flourish, like a holy, radiant windmill. Sure. Then I don't use my staff, and it just starts stomping. Aw, silverfish.
Starting point is 02:18:50 All right. Yeah. To the one right in front of you there? Uh-huh, and then the one over there. I'll do these two in front of me first. So focusing on the first one, the first two attacks against it, or a first attack, what are you doing? First attack on that one. Go for it.
Starting point is 02:19:05 Just switch your dice, man. That's what you did. I did. It's a one, it's a one. I did, I did. You bring your foot up, and as you stomp downward, it immediately skitters up out of the way, and your foot hits the ground, sending dirt and bits of leaf and vine
Starting point is 02:19:21 up in the air around it, and as you look down, it's just beyond the reach of your foot. Fucking dick. Second attack. Hit it again. 16. 16? Chest hits. Okay, that's the magic number. Yeah, cool.
Starting point is 02:19:36 Plus, wait, these are all these. Wait, these are all these. Is that plus your 2d8? Uh-huh, hang on, hang on, hang on. Six plus two, six, seven, eight, plus another eight is 16, plus another two is 18. 18 points of damage. Yeah. All righty, so the second time you do stomp down,
Starting point is 02:19:57 and ends up pinning it to the ground, and you feel its body give a little bit, and it cracks, and its legs go, skitter for a bit. It's hurt. You fucking, come on. Yeah, pop pop. All right. Bob, Bob, Bob, Bob, Bob.
Starting point is 02:20:13 Bob's here. Same guy? First one towards him, same guy. Yep, you're just focusing on the one dude right now. Yeah, yeah. 26. That hits, you can go roll damage. 16 plus another four, which is 20, plus another seven, 27 plus one, 28.
Starting point is 02:20:36 28 against seven. All right, before I forget, because I should remember this, make a constitution saving throw for me. Save? Yeah. Okay, 19? 19, you're fine. Save? Yeah. Okay. 19? 19. You're fine.
Starting point is 02:20:47 The mushroom next to you releases spores around and your large self coughs for a second, but your... Resistant to poison, too. Resistant to poison. Doesn't have an effect on you. That's right, because you know you're immune to poison. Yeah, I'm good. Whatever, you're fine.
Starting point is 02:21:04 I'm like, oh, my high school days. Right. So as you stomp down, that second hit actively splatters that one with the final hit. So you miss it once, you hit it a second time, you pull up for a third hit, the second hit cracks, and you pull up your foot one final bit,
Starting point is 02:21:25 and it's like, and you just scatters and splatters against the floor nearby. Nice. One more? Uh, so with the holy weapon stuff, right? You still have one more attack. Yeah. Yeah, so there's one more left right there that's adjacent to you. Pop up? Uh. Cock cock?
Starting point is 02:21:43 Fucking titties. 18. 18 hits. Cock-a-doom. Six plus, 10 plus 14 plus another 428. Or no, 18, 18, 18. 18 points of damage in the second hit. This one tries to skitter away,
Starting point is 02:22:06 and you reach down and stomp onto it, pushing into the ground. Two of its legs snap off and are left behind. As you pull your foot back, it's still holding on. It's really, really hurt. What? It's just one little bug? Cockroaches, man. These things are pretty big.
Starting point is 02:22:21 That finishes your turn, Beau? Yeah. Fjord, you're up. I will send an Eldritch Blast towards the one that Beau was trying to finish off. Go for it. One single blast towards that. That is 20 to hit. 20 hits, good roll damage.
Starting point is 02:22:41 That is about nine points of force damage. Nine points of force damage. As it tries to pull away and climb the tree away from Beauregard, wounded with its remaining legs, as it skitters at the side, you aim and throw the Elrish Blast, it slams into it and cracks it open in two sides, it's like
Starting point is 02:22:59 slides down the tree, dead. You have a second blast to throw. Sneak a peek, I don't think I can see that one up on the ledge from line of sight. Right there? There's one right in front of you. You have a second blast to throw. Sneak a peek. I don't think I can see that one up on the ledge from line of sight. Right there? There's one right in front of you. You can see these two right here. There's one under here. Oh, there's one right in front of us.
Starting point is 02:23:11 And one up top there. There it is? Yep. I can't see it. Yeah, can I try and shoot the one that's right in front of me? Yeah, go for it. It's right there. Natural 20.
Starting point is 02:23:22 Yeah! There you go. Hot dog, bitches. What's up, baby? Eight. 12. Do I reroll? Do I have a savage thingy?
Starting point is 02:23:38 Score a critical hit, one. Roll one additional dice, an additional, times 12. So 16 points of damage. 16 points of damage to this one. Yeah. And this one had... Has this one been previously hurt there? I don't think so. I don't think that one had, yeah.
Starting point is 02:23:56 So 16 points on that. All right, so as you blast that one with the Eldritch Blast over top, it impacts, leaving this harsh burn mark on its top side, but it's still standing. Okay, that's my turn. All right, now it's their turn. He stands and he takes for the aid of damage. Yeah, all the ones within the circle take damage.
Starting point is 02:24:13 Let me first see what they do. Okay. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Once they're in the circle, they are half speed. Right, he would only get to there then. Bad for you, Caduceus. Nah. I'm just adjusting that properly.
Starting point is 02:24:30 There we go. This one here's going to skitter up into the range. This one. Oh boy. Move here next to Beauregard. And this one here. Also, focus on Beauregard. You're the big target.
Starting point is 02:24:48 Yeah, I know, it's fun. All right, so the one that's going against Caleb, who Caleb doesn't see yet, is blocking behind the mushrooms there. Are you going to now, dude? Yep. That is. A 16 to hit?
Starting point is 02:25:02 Shield. All right, shields up a second time, and a 20 to hit. Hits. Just hits? Just hits. All right, so the first one, as you hear it coming up from behind, you spin around and put the shield up. It tries to bite towards you, gets pushed off,
Starting point is 02:25:16 spins around and then rakes across you with its claws and still manages to impact you. You take 14 points of slashing damage. Are you still up? Yeah points of slashing damage. Are you still up? Yeah. Oh! Oh shit. This one here is going to... Take damage first, I assume.
Starting point is 02:25:37 Yes, it does. So the wisdom saves on this are all three of those. That one does not get hit, though. So roll damage. Sure. We want this little buddy. We bought them, but I don't think we ever passed them out. 13.
Starting point is 02:25:53 13. All righty, so for that one there, 16. Failed. Oh, how did that get over there? That one there. Oh. No, you had them all. You never passed them out.
Starting point is 02:26:10 No. Rolled low as well. I don't know. Really? Yeah. All three of them take 13 damage. They rush and get blasted, immediately and pierced by dozens of quick-moving unicorn hamsters going leaving these puncture marks in their outer armor.
Starting point is 02:26:24 One of the one right next to us that started this turn in there. Yeah, all of them took the damage, all three of these. This guy did not, that guy did not. Are you guys still standing? Shit. We're still standing. So the one that just entered this space
Starting point is 02:26:40 is going to go ahead and attempt to shoot out its acid Funtimes. That's going to be to shoot out its acid fun times. That's going to be, I need Caduceus, Fjord, and Jester to make dexterity saving throws for me, please. Are we at disadvantage because we're restrained? Am I at disadvantage because I'm restrained? You are, yes. Ugh.
Starting point is 02:27:02 Or. 17 points of acid damage and you are restrained. Oh no. All righty, Jester? Seven. 17 points of acid damage and you're, 17 points of acid damage and you're restrained. Oh no.
Starting point is 02:27:17 15. 15, you take eight points of acid damage and you are not restrained. Are you double restrained right now? I think you are not restrained. Are you double restrained right now? I think you're just restrained. I have to make a concentration check, correct? You do, both of you do. Is it concentration? Yeah.
Starting point is 02:27:34 Concentration checks. At disadvantage or just concentration? Five. No, wait, wait, six. Six, holy weapon. Fuck, man. Beauregard, your fists suddenly fade from divine energy as the acid spray breaks Caduceus's concentration. Do I need to make a concentration check myself?
Starting point is 02:27:57 Because I got hit, too, and I've got enlarge up on Beau. That's true. No, I like being big. So I'm pretty good. I like big bows and I cannot lie. Advantage for me. Oh, that's a 19. And a one.
Starting point is 02:28:12 19 plus my performance. Yeah, that's big. You're fine, you're fine. That's good. So I still have a two power of allowance. Six. And the unicorns faded away. Oh no. Some bad, bad saves there, guys.
Starting point is 02:28:27 I'm sorry. You're not sorry. No, no. All righty. That fading. We now have one over here that's attacking you, Jester. On the opposite side, it's rushing up. Four, five, six.
Starting point is 02:28:42 Natural one. Oh, but you have your Restrain, so it has advantage. Ooh, that's better. 24 to hit. Yeah! And the second hit is going to be... Aw, 20 to hit. Yep! All right, so first, it bites out towards you, grasping onto your body with its jaws and bites down.
Starting point is 02:29:00 You take 12 points of piercing damage and eight points of acid damage, so a total of 20 points of damage. Its claws then swing out towards you and, oh, double ones, seven points of slashing damage as it's bitten onto you, begins grinding towards you, but your shield's up in front and you push it off. The one on the other side is going to attack you.
Starting point is 02:29:21 Fjord, you are restrained, so it also has advantage on its attack rolls. The bite towards you is going to be, it's not great either, 14 to hit. This is not hit. You manage to push it away with your shield. It's going to attempt to go with you with its claws for 14 again.
Starting point is 02:29:37 Misses. With advantage. So both attacks, you're going to push it away, kick it back, can't even get close enough to actually get an impact on you. The other two are attacking you, Beauregard. Actually, because you're big, that one's going to go ahead and spray you. But it's going to be that way,
Starting point is 02:29:52 so it's not going to get anybody. I need you to make a dexterity saving throw, please. Natural 20. Yeah! All right, so you only take nine points of acid damage and you are not restrained. Cool. The other one's going to attack you twice.
Starting point is 02:30:10 Cool. That's going to be 16. Miss. And 18. Miss. Then one leaps at you and you just bat it onto the ground and it swoops up again to strike towards you and you just put your foot out
Starting point is 02:30:23 and keep it at bay and kick it back. Third turn's over. Yasha, you're up. Nott, you're on deck. Okay, so since I was not attacked, I have to rage again, right? Since you weren't attacked, you do have to. Okay. But you attacked last round.
Starting point is 02:30:38 Yeah. Yeah. It's either attack or be attacked. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. So you're fine. You're still raging. Okay. Yay. Okay, so I'm going to attack this one right here. With my Skin Gorger. If you need me to move any of these treetops,
Starting point is 02:30:49 I can do that for you. No, no, it's good. We're mobile as well. Go, let's go. Wait, do I have advantage because of Fjord? Technically, against that one, you do have it flying. So yes, you do. Well, actually, that might actually, that hits. 16.
Starting point is 02:31:08 Let me just see if I can get 20. No, okay. All right, 16 hits. You got a little bit. Okay, I'll keep that. 24. 24 points of damage from the first strike. That one, you just, with one big golf swing,
Starting point is 02:31:25 slice it and send it flying across the other side of the jungle, where you see it vanish behind a rock and then squeak out the last of its life. Okay, second attack, can I actually try to pull Jester out of her restraint? Kind of help her out of the wax or whatever's going on. Out of the wax? Sure, I'll allow it.
Starting point is 02:31:49 It's like a shove attack to try and push her past it. Yeah. Would that be like a... Some more of that. That's good. Move in. Go ahead and make an athletics check. 25. Sorry, strength saving throw. My bad. Strength saving throw. Same roll, but just Sorry, strength saving throw.
Starting point is 02:32:05 My bad. Strength saving throw. Same roll, but just add your strength saving throw. Okay. Which you have advantage on because you're raging, actually. 26. Okay, I'll roll again. Yeah, that's better.
Starting point is 02:32:15 Jesus. 28. Okay, you do. You push her one space that way, shoving her out of the cocoon of wax. She breaks and stumbles a bit and catches herself, but she's no longer restrained. Yay! Okay, go do stuff. Okay. All righty.
Starting point is 02:32:29 Finishing Yasha's go, Nott, you're up, Caleb, you're on deck. I will retreat to that tree behind me. Right here? To your right. And bonus action, hide behind it. All right, go ahead and make your stealth check. Terrible, but I have reliable talent. Oh wait, I'm poisoned. Yes.
Starting point is 02:32:58 This advantage, that rolls an ability check, so it'd be just a single roll. Okay, well, I rolled twice. I'll average them. They came out to a five. But I still have Reliable Talent, so it's a 23. Fucking rogues. All right, you feel pretty stealthed.
Starting point is 02:33:16 Okay, and then I will use my attack to shoot the one behind Caleb, which would be at advantage, but is not. Just a single roll. Single roll. 15. 15 misses. Ooh! All that action just to get a shot.
Starting point is 02:33:31 I know, you move behind and fire it as you do it. Whips right over its armor, ricochets off of its outer shell, and shatters against the nearby rock. You're on your own, kid! All right, now it's done. Caleb, you're up. Jester, you're on deck. Caleb is gushing blood and barely standing up,
Starting point is 02:33:48 and he reaches his hand down into his large pack, hand wraps around his transmuter stone, and suddenly he balloons up 15-foot-tall giant ape, turns around and wails the shit out of the bug bag. Got it. First one misses, that is a 11. Was it an action to cast it? Oh, right.
Starting point is 02:34:10 Yeah. Yeah, so I'm just a giant ape. So you're a giant ape. And I will just turn around and yell at it. All right. You just shout at the creature. It withdraws a bit, just not noticing this large array of angry. Action stories of angry.
Starting point is 02:34:29 On my turn, I wanted to shout out to Caleb. Caleb, Dwarven Forge is launching their Twitch channel on February 18th. Goddamn it. Check it out at twitch.tv slash dwarvenforge live. Okay. All right, finishing Caleb's go, Jester, you're up. Caduceus, you're on deck. All right, nobody worry about me.
Starting point is 02:34:47 Okay. Having watched, I... Changed what you were going to do. Yep. That altered my plan. Yep, mine, too. Okay. Fuck me running.
Starting point is 02:35:07 I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. That just changed what I was planning on doing. Fuck it. Okay, I'm going to clap my hands together and go, all right, let's make this fun. And I'm going to polymorph myself into a giant blue mammoth.
Starting point is 02:35:24 Ooh. All right. Oh shit. And there is one. Boo! Fuck, fuck, fuck! This just turned into a Godzilla film. Yeah. Right, Yasha.
Starting point is 02:35:36 Oh, it's right in the butt. Get Peter Jackson out of here! As you into the forest face, Yasha, you see the shadow grow over you after just a shout's happened, turn around and you're looking right at a mammoth asshole. Just right there. That's a mean thing to say about your mom.
Starting point is 02:35:54 Back over, Sean. And it's on a packaderm. Yeah, yeah. Aw. Boom, well done. All righty, so that's your action to cast. Yeah, so as a movement, I'm going to move forward and turn around.
Starting point is 02:36:12 This way? Yeah. All right. And then turn around. Like, I don't want to be next to the mushroom. I'm going to be a little bit further away from it. But you're staying engaged with that guy there? Yeah. I slap her ass on the way over.
Starting point is 02:36:25 All righty. Yee! Heavy sound of it trumpeting in the middle of the jungle. All right, that finishes Jester's turn. Caduceus, you're up. That's better than mine. I am restrained. You are. Oh no, you are not restrained.
Starting point is 02:36:40 I'm not restrained anymore. Because you made your save. Did I make my save? That's a dainty save. I thought you rolled an actual. I did made your save. Did I make my save? I thought you rolled an actual. I did make my save, Jesus, I keep forgetting. I didn't remember that. All right, am I in melee with anybody? You are in melee with one of them.
Starting point is 02:36:52 Okay, I'm going to hit that one with the Sacred Flame. All righty, the same, no, this is a different one. This is a different one. And it's, ooh, that's a fail. Oh, yay. It's a nine. That's nice. You're going to roll damage on that? That's a different one. And it's, ooh, that's a fail. Oh yay. It's a nine. That's a nice. Good roll damage on that. That's a... That's better, that's better, okay.
Starting point is 02:37:10 That's 20 points of radiant damage. 20 points of radiant damage. It flares up, it burns across, and its outer shell is now turned black, and then elements of it have cracked open from the immediate radiant heat, but it's still standing, though very, very hurt. Last chance. All right.
Starting point is 02:37:27 Finishes your go. Yeah, I ain't going nowhere. Top of the round, Beauregard, you're up. Skyju, fight! I'm going to stomp on that one! No, you're small now. Over there! This one? No, I'm small. Because I'm big. No. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 02:37:40 She's going to walk over. As this is happening, Beauregard stomps over to that one. Like, and just becomes a normal Beauregard. And you go to stomp and suddenly, suddenly it's much larger than you remember. Right. Right. My perspective changes.
Starting point is 02:38:06 So what are you doing? No, I'm still going to punt the one that's next to me. All righty, go ahead and take that. Kicking that one. I should have made a new clip of that. I'm sorry. Oh, that was creepy. Okay, punchies, punchies, punting.
Starting point is 02:38:25 Yeah, that's good. 26. 26 hits. Was that a little bit? Yeah, I'll take that. That's fine. 10 damage on that one. 10 damage? Yep, he's still alive. Still alive. Second hit.
Starting point is 02:38:39 Yeah, 28. That hits. It's even better, 12. 12 points of damage? Yeah. You watch her kick it and then spin it around with your staff to smack it a second time. Falls on its back and gets back up. It's barely standing, its legs are quivering,
Starting point is 02:38:54 but it's still standing. I just like, and then Flurry of Blows, and I take my staff and I just fuck it. That's really bludgeoning. Okay, go ahead and roll. Goddamn it! Pop pop!
Starting point is 02:39:09 Okay, there's a 26 and a 13. I don't think the 13 hits. The 13 does not hit, but the 26. But the 26! Oh. Uh, 10. Again? You just whack, whack, whack.
Starting point is 02:39:22 It's no longer moving, and whack, whack, whack. You see now the purple ooze just coming off on the staff and arcing. Oh, nice shooting, Derek. I just keep going as a little tear comes out the corner of my eye. All right, Beau, you're done. Fjord, you're up.
Starting point is 02:39:37 Unless you want to move, Beau. You can move still. Okay, you're staying there, just hitting the corpse. You got it. I am restrained, yes. You are restrained. I will turnined, yes. You are restrained. I will, bleh, bleh, bleh, bleh, bleh. Turn into a giant.
Starting point is 02:39:48 Yeah. I'll send a- Sure, why not? Everyone else is doing it. I'll send one Eldritch Blast right here towards the middle one that's- You got it right there. Yeah, that one. Roll for attack. Jesus.
Starting point is 02:40:05 That's an 18. 18 hits. Great. 10 points of force damage. 10 points of force damage to that one, all righty. Still up? Still up. That one hasn't been touched yet. Oh, great. But you've just blasted it. It's now taking some hit.
Starting point is 02:40:20 It's still looking good, but it's hurt. I'll send in another one that way. Ooh, that's good. 13 points. 13 misses. Now being hit once, it's still looking good, but it's hurt. I'll send in another one that way. Ooh, that's good, 13 points. 13 misses. Now being hit once, it turns towards you and as you release the second blast, it skitters by the mushroom and the ground bursts
Starting point is 02:40:33 with dust and dirt where it no longer stands, then crawls back into the space it once was. With my bonus action, I think I can cast Hex after I've done two attacks, right? You can, because your Elder Splash is a cantrip. So you can cast Hex if you want. Yeah, I'll cast Hex on that guy that ran away that I missed.
Starting point is 02:40:57 You got it. That guy's Hexed. All right. Top of the round already? That finishes your turn? Yes. All right, now it's hexed. All right. Top of the round already? That finishes your turn? Yes. All right, now it's their turn. Should I make that first? I look up to the top of the mammoth
Starting point is 02:41:11 where there's a tiny, tiny sprinkle just hanging on. This one here was going to go for Caduceus, but then a giant mammoth came. And it's... This one here was going to go for Caduceus, but then a giant mammoth came. And it's... It's going to attack the mammoth. Boy, oh boy. They don't have a lot of good options. Nope, that one's going to flee.
Starting point is 02:41:35 I'm going to take a shot at it. It's going to flee? It leaves. Do I also get to take a shot at it as it leaves? You do. It's going to go ahead and run past all three of you. Does Sacred Flame count as a consent since I'm a battle mage, does Sacred Flame count as a? If you're a war caster,
Starting point is 02:41:47 I believe that allows you to do cantrip as well. 26. I will do Sacred Flame on him. Dead. Oh, never mind, you go first. 26 hits, go ahead and roll damage. 26. That hits as well. Do we all get a hit yet? I'm holding to see where it goes.
Starting point is 02:42:01 Well, first it's Jester. Yeah. Hold on, hold on. Jester may just fry the thing. Get it, get it. 15 plus seven. 15? Plus seven. Plus seven. It spins around and gets the skitter away, and you just. And then before it even gets to the rest of you,
Starting point is 02:42:25 it is scattered across the floor of the jungle there. This one here is going to continue to attack the gorilla, which it seems a little less intimidated by. Both attacks against it are a 16 and a 17. To hit the? To hit you. My Arthur. Yes, they both hit. All right, the first one does
Starting point is 02:42:50 five points of piercing damage and six points of acid damage. So 11 total. And then the second attack does 14 points of slashing damage. Okay. All right. That finishes that one's go.
Starting point is 02:43:03 And there is one attacking Beau and one attacking Fjord that it got hexed by. The one attacking Beauregard. That's going to be a 14. Miss. Second attack is a natural one. You just completely dodge around it. It can't even get near you. Dodge the lobster.
Starting point is 02:43:19 The other one is attacking you twice. You are restrained still, Fjord, so it gets advantage on any strikes. It does. Ooh, that's going to be a 24. That it? And a natural 20. Well, fuck you. Oh jeez.
Starting point is 02:43:30 Counter. Because you can do that. Thank you, big carry. No. Yes, you can, because you didn't spend your reaction doing that. That's why you don't go. That's why you maintain some discipline. Maintain some discipline.
Starting point is 02:43:43 Discipline, yes. Why? It's important, guys, to have some discipline. Yes, that's why. It's important, guys, to have some discipline. Don't go outside with wet hands. All right, the first bite attack against you, Fjord, that's going to be 13 points of damage total. The second attack is 15 points of slashing damage. Wow, okay. So I think a total of 31 or something?
Starting point is 02:44:08 Oh, and on both of those, because the sword does some shit, Yep. it is a, wow, really? I got to remember that more often than thinking about doing that. Oh, good. Eight and six. Oh, good!
Starting point is 02:44:22 14 points of radiant damage. Oh, yeah. 14 points of radiant damage? Nice. Just the light sprays from it. It's looking hurt. All righty, that finishes their turn. Yasha, your turn. Okay.
Starting point is 02:44:38 All right, I'm going to try to make my way to wherever the nearest one is. There's one with the gorilla here, and there's one that's hexed by Fjord, the one that's fighting Beau. Okay, let's go to the one one is. There's one with the gorilla here, and there's one that's hexed by four, and the one that's fighting Beau. Okay, let's go to the one by Caleb. The one by Caleb? Yeah. Even though I'm sure the gorilla has got it.
Starting point is 02:44:53 There you go, you can push through the bush and rush up, blade in the air, go ahead and make your attack. Push through the bush. Coughed. Natural 20? Yeah, that'll do. Natural 20?
Starting point is 02:45:04 Woo! Three, two, that'll do. Natural 20? Woo! Downer! Okay. Okay, so, let's see. Savage attacker, so I'm going to see if that'll do. That's like two ones, aren't they? Oh, they're both exactly the same.
Starting point is 02:45:20 The exact same! Okay, so. One checkers. Okay, so. Come on, checkers. Well, 18. 18 plus your Brutal Critical, which. You reroll your damage die. Well, it's not reroll. This is, you get an additional.
Starting point is 02:45:35 Which at this level would be. You can roll one additional weapon damage die when determining the extra damage for a critical hit with a melee attack. So roll an additional d6 for that? Okay. So 18 plus. Two! 20 points of damage to that one.
Starting point is 02:45:48 Do you double that die, too? No. No. No, okay. So 20 points on the first strike, you rush up and slam! The blade sticks into it and it's jammed in it and you hear it going, trying to pull away, but it's stuck in there.
Starting point is 02:46:00 Go ahead and roll your second attack. Okay. Ah, cocked. Cocked again, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry! Oh, this is not going to hit. That's 11. 11? No, that's not going to hit.
Starting point is 02:46:13 Don't forget you got Reckless Attack, see if you're not worried about being attacked back. Oh shit! I always forget about that. Can I do it, or should I wait until the next time? I'll let you do it, it's fine. I'll let you do it, I'll let you do it, it's fine. Keep that in mind, keep that in mind. That's one of the big two is the Barbarian.
Starting point is 02:46:26 Fucking shit! Okay. There you go. That's dice. I know, I'm sorry, I like it. 24. That does hit, go ahead and roll damage. Okay. Takes six rolls to get one good one.
Starting point is 02:46:40 Put a metal plate in there so it falls apart. 12 points of damage. 12 points of damage. 12 points of damage. All right, you pull the blade out and the jagged part of the skin gorger tears through its body, scattering from its door across the rock. It's still standing, but it's hurt real badly.
Starting point is 02:46:54 Fuck you, you're still standing. Nott, you're up. Caleb, you're on deck. I'm up, I get more turns? You do. I'm going to, where's that one that Yasha was just? Right there. You got to crush that. In front of the Great Bay?
Starting point is 02:47:05 Great Bay. This tree is not in. I'm behind, I'm so stealthy, you can't see me. I love this forest, it's actually so hard to see through. It's great. Yeah, it's fun. Makes me happy. I'm going to stealthily try to poach the one that Yasha was just hitting.
Starting point is 02:47:20 You killed the man! Don't spoil the illusion. Yeah! We're't spoil the illusion. We're lucky we don't have the pieces. But we love it! I fired at this one last time from the same position. Do I have to re-hide? If you want to have not disadvantage.
Starting point is 02:47:36 I will bonus action, re-hide. All right, so you'll have to move. There's enough of a bush here that you can jump into the bush and then come out that way. Because I haven't, yes, I do. Because I'm at disadvantage on these attacks. You get advantage if your buddy,
Starting point is 02:47:50 now you know that's sneak attack. You get sneak attack damage. Unless you are rolling with disadvantage. Unless you have disadvantage, does not give you sneak damage. Yeah, so this is a single straight roll. Oh! Fucking natural one.
Starting point is 02:48:00 Fucking natural one! So you miss and you damage yourself. Oh, that's right. No, not. What does it do? What did you do? What does it do? What does it say? Shcroi. When you roll a one, you suffer 1d6 piercing damage.
Starting point is 02:48:15 Go for it. Oh! That's a six. You rush, hide, dive through the bush, turn around and fire, and it just goes Ah! Ah! Ah goes back into you. Nott, does that finish your turn? You okay, Nott? Good night!
Starting point is 02:48:30 Caleb, you're up. All right, so begin what I was trying to do before. Smash it. That is a 27 to hit. 27 hits. Okay. That is a 22. 22 points of damage.
Starting point is 02:48:49 You squash that thing like the bug it is. Flavor, I'll say, he just does it with a palm, goes and then just takes the body and chucks it into the underbrush. It sprays part of you, Yasha, and then as the monkey lifts it, it goes up against the rest of you and you are just coated in purple.
Starting point is 02:49:07 So when he attacks him, he just goes. I like it. I'm in for it. And then he's going to King Kong over towards the group. 40 feet, look over their shoulders. You have to go around this way. There's not enough room to go. Sure.
Starting point is 02:49:21 Stopping over there, you crush that element there and there's one right next to Beauregard that you can get to. Right. Go for it. That is a 17 to hit. 17, 17, 24, 30. 13? 30. 30? 30 hits, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 02:49:44 Oh no, I hit 30 damage. Oh, got you. Ooh, wow. Wow? 30. 30, 30 hits, yeah, yeah. Oh no, I hit 30 damage. Oh, got you. Ooh, wow. Wow. 30 damage. That one had not been damaged yet, and as you slam down with both your fists, you smash into the ground,
Starting point is 02:49:53 and it's going to go flat for a second. You pull back, thinking it's probably dead, and it slowly gets back up. Ah! Angry Caleb is angry. Finishing Caleb's go, Jester, you're up. Caduceus, you're up. Caduceus, you're on deck.
Starting point is 02:50:05 Can I get to it? You can push past this tree and try for it. Ooh, just knock the tree over. Fuck that tree. Make a strength check for me. Oh, man. As a peck on the peck, mammoth strength check.
Starting point is 02:50:21 Yeah, 25. Then that mammoth just took it. Yeah, 25! That one is a token. Awesome! Oh, spooks! You push over into this space. Shine the light! Pushing it by. This is a sacred place.
Starting point is 02:50:39 She's fine with it. Yep. The tree just slams, spitting all sorts of loose leaves and dust up into the air. Does it count? Because it's weirdly close. Are you taking the hex sword or the one that he tried to smash?
Starting point is 02:50:50 The one that, oh, is there more than one? There's two. Oh shit! One that I smooshed. Oh, well, I'll do the one. I'll do the hexed one. All right, go for it. I'll do the hexed one. So that was, Tak was? That was 16.
Starting point is 02:51:05 16 just hits. Ooh, nice. Ooh, close call. Six plus nine is 15, plus four is 19, plus seven is 26. 26 to that one? You, after pushing the tree with your body as it's cracking down, you splat that one that's hatched. Just turn to mush.
Starting point is 02:51:33 Hurry. It's a goof. Do you have another attack or is it just the one? I think it's just the one. All righty. And you move over towards the other one, just trumpet loudly. You see in the distance other movement.
Starting point is 02:51:43 Oh no. What the fuck? That is scattering further away. Oh! They are not enjoying the presence of a fucking mammoth in the middle of the jungle. So, finishing your go, Jester, that brings us to Caduceus.
Starting point is 02:51:58 There's one left? There's one left. Sacred Flame. Not even going to move, just. Almost dead. A dexterity save? It's a, I. Almost dead. Does Dix already save? It's a, I believe so. 17, what's your DC?
Starting point is 02:52:09 17. It just succeeds. I'm sorry. Bugger. I'm going to hide. All right, that finishes your go? Yeah. I'm just going to sit there being irritated. Okay, got it. Beau, you're up. There's a giant girl
Starting point is 02:52:26 at one side and a woolly mammoth at the other, and one heavily damaged bug in between the two of them that's like skittering through their legs, trying to knock it smashed, and you're just watching this. Is he the only one? Yeah. The only bug? The only bug left. Maybe we can befriend it. Is this another bug hunt, sir?
Starting point is 02:52:42 Yeah, I'm just going to dodge the mammoth feet and the gorilla feet and just, once again, just take my staff and just like... Yep. Just whack-a-mole it. Just whack-a-mole it. Go for it. Yeah, it's fine. Shake-weight it. Pop pop. Shake-weight it. Shake-weight it.
Starting point is 02:52:59 An 18 for a 28 and a natural 20. Go ahead and roll damage. 18. Yeah, shit, an eight for the natural 20. It's okay, 10, 16. How do you want to do this? Yes! Oh, goodness, what do I do with a bug?
Starting point is 02:53:19 You know, I'm just going to, like, I'm just going to, yeah, I was churning butter. I'm just going to keep churning that butter. You know, I'm just going to, like, I was churning butter. I'm just going to keep churning that butter. You know, I'm just going to. It's rushing around. It's escaping through the mammoth's legs and the monkey goes and slams towards the ground and it just avoids it.
Starting point is 02:53:35 You rush forward and take the, yeah, don't. That's okay, that's okay. Stop making gifs. Learn from Sam's gif mistakes last campaign. No, stop, stop! It's okay. You making gifs. Learn from Sam's gif mistakes last campaign. No, stop, stop! That's okay. You watch and wait for a moment, and you take your staff and just pin it to the ground
Starting point is 02:53:51 and it can't move, and as it's there, you just lean your weight into it and something snaps and pushes through the armor and it just goes limp on the ground, no longer moving. Yeah, it's dead. Nice. Wow. Before I unrestrain myself,
Starting point is 02:54:10 I feel like we should pass these out. Yes! Who wants a healing potion? I'll take one. Okay, who wants the big one? Caleb! There you go. I'll hold the monkeys for a minute.
Starting point is 02:54:25 If everybody likes, I can take 10 minutes and just help everybody out, or at least a few of us out. Yashis? I'm okay. Yeah, I guess I'll drop my polymorph. It lasts for an hour. Wait, wait, Caleb comes up to the, Caleb comes up to the mammoth and just like you're petting a horse, they're like,
Starting point is 02:54:49 and then swings up and plants himself up on. You're pretty big. You're going to ride on top of the mammoth? You sting the mammoth? No. No. Sir, how's your hips? I drop my form. Uh-oh. Oh no.
Starting point is 02:55:07 Okay, make a dexterity saving throw. Instant death. Oh. Woo! Can I try to plant two feet and not squish? If she didn't roll a one, I'd say yes. So as you leap onto the mammoth, the mammoth suddenly shrinks. Like instantly.
Starting point is 02:55:32 And there's a moment, in a very cartoon physics way, where you're just suspended about 10 feet in the air before, and you like, and then. Go ahead and roll 2d6 for me, Caleb. Inside the gorilla. Six. You take six points of bludgeoning damage and are pinned beneath a giant gorilla.
Starting point is 02:55:55 Stands up and grabs her by the ankle. Ow! Caleb! Caleb. Caleb. Caleb. Let her go! Oh, man. I'm going to run over to Yasha and try to get my flask out of her.
Starting point is 02:56:16 Okay. I'm going to try to swipe my flask back. You're going to try to swipe it? You're not even going to, you're going to try to sneak it? I'm going to try to sneak it. Okay. All right, go ahead and make a sleight of hand check. Disadvantage.
Starting point is 02:56:28 Make a perception check. Come on, Yash. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. Disadvantage. Oh, never mind. Hey! I'm doing a roll on you right now. What?
Starting point is 02:56:42 Did you roll? Technically, it's a 23. Yeah, with reliable talent. I rolled a natural 20. Oh! What's the total on that? What's the total? 23. Holy shit, you actually catch Nott.
Starting point is 02:56:58 You're like, everyone's taking a moment, and the blood's on you, and you wipe it in a bit, and you walk over, and you just, everyone's sitting down for a minute and you feel this tug and you glance behind you and Nott is pulling the flask. I'm just going to slap him without even looking. What are you doing? Ah!
Starting point is 02:57:17 28. I can't shoot straight without my boos! I wasn't shooting straight! What are you talking about? You shot just fine! No, I missed twice! It's true, I saw her shoot herself in the eyeball. I shot myself in the eyeball!
Starting point is 02:57:32 You gave me this flask. Do you really want me to keep it, or do you want to take it? I don't know anymore. Don't take it, Nott. I'll hold onto it for, let's, how about I hold onto it until we get to Caduceus' destination? All right. Can I try to unrestrain myself, please?
Starting point is 02:57:51 Yes, after a moment, you manage to pull free of the hardened wax-like cocoon substance. So much happening right now. No, don't help him, don't help him. Have I hit a prayer of healing by this point? It takes a while to It takes ten minutes. Ten minutes? If you guys are taking ten minutes here,
Starting point is 02:58:08 then yeah, you can go ahead and cast it. Everybody except for Caleb, because you're still a monkey. Are we taking a short rest? No, just a ten minute. You're still a monkey, so I'm not healing you. You can take a short rest if you want to. Let's take a short rest.
Starting point is 02:58:21 Gets 26 points of healing. Everyone except for Caleb, unless you want to drop your monkey form, Caleb. Deciding that now. Because I'm fucked up, Caleb is fucked up, but monkey is not. I was going to say, yeah, because if you drop it, then I'll just heal it personally.
Starting point is 02:58:36 Just an hour, so I can drop it. So if you're taking a short rest, you might as well. Yeah, I might. All right, so take the healing. We all get healing? No, we can only do six, so. I don't need it. I don't need it. Oh. I heal. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:58:47 So he doesn't need it more. I don't need it. Oh, he doesn't need it also. I mean, Sam doesn't need it, so. I have, the only damage I took was self-inflicted six points of damage. That's true. Oh, did poison, did not?
Starting point is 02:58:59 Oh, I'm still poisoned. You're still poisoned, yeah. Oh, I think I can do something about that, too. Okay, so you guys can use your hit die to go ahead and heal up naturally during the short rest, if'm still poisoned. Still poisoned, yeah. Oh, I think I can do something about that, too. Okay, so you guys can use your hit die to go ahead and heal up naturally during the short rest, if you'd like. Oh, then I'll hit the ten. I know. I don't care.
Starting point is 02:59:11 You've already cast the spell, it's fine. What fix is poisoned with hit dice? Lesser Restoration. I'm going to give you a quick Lesser Restoration. Anybody else poisoned? I don't think so. The only other person who was in danger of it is immune, because monks.
Starting point is 02:59:29 So no more poison. Thank you. Oh, it's no problem. You're welcome. All right. Yeah. Oh, that was bad. We build a house here.
Starting point is 02:59:40 You're welcome. Just the last work of bridges. It's supposed to be having a Robinson this week. So the creatures are scattered about, broken, sliced, pulled apart, the purple ichor, scattered across the jungle floor, the large broken tree that's now on its side, the dust settled that was picked up from its impact.
Starting point is 03:00:01 Well, that was a valuable lesson. What was that lesson? Don't poke big things if you don't know what they are. I don't know if I've learned that lesson. I know. Which, in the heyday, what direction were we heading? That way. That way.
Starting point is 03:00:25 Caleb remembers. Yeah, you guys know the direction you were traveling. Okay. Do we need to rest for a moment, or are we good to head off? We just took a short rest, so about an hour of downtime to... Thank you. We're gathering your shit.
Starting point is 03:00:41 Is there anything you want to do during the short rest? Three of these guys. I'm going to carve a little dick into the tree that I knocked over as a mammoth. You got it. This one equal, if not better, than the one you left earlier in the jungle. You're getting good at these things.
Starting point is 03:00:58 You know? Caleb will use Arcane Recovery. Okay, so you get your spell back. All righty. After taking an hour of downtime to rest up and sit and think about whatever the hell you're doing in the middle of this weird expanse and these creatures
Starting point is 03:01:17 you've stumbled past, what do you guys want to do? I'm done meditating, I'm ready to move on. We could meditate. We just took like an hour or so. Can you make meditation part of the short rest, if you want? Yeah, we can right now. Do you want to meditate? I'd like to meditate.
Starting point is 03:01:34 Oh, that's great. Yeah, I'll join in on meditation. Okay. Oh. Oh. Oh. Don't, you don't have to do that. No, no, no, just listen to the environment. Okay. Let it flow through you.
Starting point is 03:01:53 Oh, you're telling us. Oh yeah. All right. So here, recovering, sore, you all slowly make your way through an impromptu guided meditation for the better part of an hour in the middle of the jungle on the outskirts of the White Dawn Lagoon.
Starting point is 03:02:16 I'm just going to dance around while I'm meditating. That is a form of meditation for some. Dance therapy. Frumpkin is picking nits out of Fjord's hair while he meditates. You got it. All the nits. Allumpkin is picking nits out of Fjord's hair while he meditates. You got it. All the nits. So many nits. It's a lot of nits.
Starting point is 03:02:30 All righty, as the rest is done, you guys continue in the direction. Get up and we move. Okay, same order as before? Yeah. Holy nay. Caduceus and Fjord at the front. Mm. Sure. As before? Yeah. Holy nay. Oh, yeah. It produces a word of affront. Beau and, was it Caleb? Was that clean dirt insect poop?
Starting point is 03:02:55 You don't know. You can inspect the insects or inspect the space around if you want to try and figure it out. Do you want to look inside one of the opened up pale scorpion things? Simple biology, just take a look. At their poop? No, just open up their guts,
Starting point is 03:03:12 look at them stomach sacs. They probably have poison sacs. Ooh. Nott, you should take some of those poison sacs inside of them. They do? Okay. Yeah, I'm going to help get those out because I'm good at medicine.
Starting point is 03:03:24 Oh, all right? Okay. Yeah, I'm going to help get those up because I'm good at medicine. Oh, all right. Okay. Go ahead and roll a medicine and a nature check. Both of them? Yes. Medicine, 27. Nature. 12. Okay.
Starting point is 03:03:47 You have no idea if these creatures are indigenous to here or not. They are odd. The one thing that catches your eye is their coloration and physicality doesn't seem to fit this environment. It doesn't make sense for a creature like this to live in a dense part of a jungle.
Starting point is 03:04:06 With your medicine check, you do find that there are actually two glands in the inside of its body, separate chemicals that when combined, create that caustic, wax-like substance. Separately, they're just like inert, nasty, viscous, oil-like liquids. One's a deep bluish color, the other one is clear.
Starting point is 03:04:27 When they're put together, it becomes almost like a white foam that then burns and solidifies into this cocoon-like wax. I'm going to get them in vials. Okay. You have enough for probably one application. Is it cute? Kind of, yeah. When I say it foams up, both of them combined could probably affect.
Starting point is 03:04:45 Acidic wax. Acidic wax, you could say. Compound, acidic wax compound. That's some good pranking there. Well, I gave it to Nott. I don't know. But there's plenty of other ones. If you want to try it again.
Starting point is 03:04:59 Yeah! All right, go ahead and roll another medicine check. That didn't count, that slipped out of my hand. Yep. That's kind of what you do with a didn't count, that slipped out of my hand. Yep. That's kind of what you do with a die. No, but you know what I mean. It has to be an intentional roll. Yep. 20.
Starting point is 03:05:13 20? You know what I mean. Also, you just barely managed to pull another set of these glands from one of the other corpses without them accidentally touching and combining and setting off a reaction. Yeah, yeah. A lot of these bodies have been damaged heavily
Starting point is 03:05:32 from the battle, and there's only maybe one or two others that even are viably intact to withdraw from, but you barely succeeded in not hurting yourself in this process. That's all I'm done. Okay. We're off? We're off. Okay. Made the way. You push closer to the center of this jungle region
Starting point is 03:05:56 for the next couple hours or so. Those patches of wax and discolored fungus begin to fade as you move on, apparently moving past the region that nested these creatures at the moment. Though you do occasionally still come across, rarely, another pile of fresh, clean, moved earth, vibrant red, standing out against the environment.
Starting point is 03:06:28 Eventually, as the sky begins to turn slightly orange, as the day begins to progress a little later on, as the hours continue by, you can see just a faint hint of light refracting off of a mirror. Water. And the patches of jungle and the elements of faint fungus that remain begin to give way
Starting point is 03:06:56 to a clearing that houses a small lake. An oasis pool, if you will, of extremely clear water that's fostering all manner of fish throughout and under the surface. The thin shore itself is dotted with rocks, scattered brush atop the rich red earth that is exposed very much like what you encountered before, but without the heavy roots and jungle undergrowth.
Starting point is 03:07:25 It is just a bright red shore along the outside of this lake. Beautiful rock carvings of various animals and creatures align the edges of this lake like a statue garden of all these beautiful beasts and people in this decorative sense surrounding this menagerie of beautiful art,
Starting point is 03:07:50 enshrining the space as the Court of Beasts. Jungle deer, bears, elegant jungle cats, massive lizards, all sorts of creatures, all immortalized in these sculptures. Does it look like they're actually sculptures, or do they look like creatures that have been turned to stone? You can walk up to one if you want and inspect,
Starting point is 03:08:11 make an investigation check. What a pretty statue. Natural one. It looks like a pretty well-carved statue. You can't really tell. But you do, as you guys walk towards the edge of the tree line here, you can see along the western bank, which is not entirely on the opposite side,
Starting point is 03:08:34 but a little further away around the northern curvature of the lakeside, you can see a few odd broken heavy rocks that push away from the rest of the smooth edges of the water, like a hillside with red rock that has emerged. You can see what looks to be scattered slivers of well-carved statues that sit around an entrance of a cave, like a cathedral entrance,
Starting point is 03:09:02 with the statues set to walk through and into. This raised bank itself is the mouth of a cavern that, just beyond where the water is, in shadow, descends deep into the earth on that side. What do you guys like to do. What are we doing now? Is this the place? I'm going to touch the water, smell it. It's very clear, very clean.
Starting point is 03:09:36 Well, let's go. In the water. No. No, not yet. We're going to go to the cave. Not yet. We're going to go to the cave. Not yet. Splash, splash, splash, splash, splash, splash. The fish scatter. It's really pretty water, though, hm? It's beautiful.
Starting point is 03:09:54 I could always check the water. For traps? I could just walk down there and see what's... I mean, I'm at the water. I actually meant down there. I don't think there's anything down there and see what's... I mean, I'm at the water. I actually meant down there. I don't think there's anything down there. Up to you. Can you see?
Starting point is 03:10:13 Can we see the bottom? It's real clear. Make a perception check. I'll join you in that. The two of you could do that individually. 18. Let's go. Fair.
Starting point is 03:10:33 17. Okay. It is very clear. You can't make out a lot of detail with just the light that's refracting off the surface, but you can see there is a beautiful little forest of lake plants and this little life ecosystem a beautiful little forest of lake plants and this little life ecosystem beneath there where all the fish swim through and underneath. There's no structure or designs of anything
Starting point is 03:10:57 that catches your attention if it's what you're looking for. It's just a beautiful, clear lake, maybe about 150, 200 feet across. Welcome to the Court of Beasts. Maybe about 150, 200 feet across. Welcome to the Court of Beasts. Let's head to the cave. All right. Sure. I'll say just for the heck of it, while they were doing that inspection,
Starting point is 03:11:14 that Caleb hid himself with some fortune's favor. Okay. Go for it. As we're walking, do these statues of these beasts, do they have a base or a platform, or do they seem to be perfectly carved animals on the earth? I mean, some of them are sunken in a bit to the ground, but they don't have a set base or a solid platform or dais. They're just sculptures set in the earth.
Starting point is 03:11:37 Give it a look. See if they're actually sculptures. I think it's a good call. Make an investigation check. You helping me out? Yep. All right. Oh, I already checked it out. She already checked. Fine.
Starting point is 03:11:51 Yeah, I will say, because she's already checked independently, this will be an independent check as opposed to an aided one. So just roll one. It's not over. 10. 10. 10.
Starting point is 03:12:08 That's not great. I mean, they're statues, they're well carved. As you do walk along, though, you do see broken bits of them. You see parts, some of them are older, apparently they've been shipped off. You see a broken hand or a head of a creature that's cracked and partially sunken
Starting point is 03:12:26 into some of the fresh earth. You begin to see the beast idols intertwined now with carved idols of humanoid people the further you get to the cave. You see some are adorned in travel attire, some in battle attire, some are captured in a moment of heroic struggle. Some are visibly worn.
Starting point is 03:12:47 Many are kept well enough to appear polished and new. It's a variety. One minor question. You said that all different kinds of animals that we'd recognize mixed in, are there any that are strange, out of the ordinary type animals, never seen before? None that are as alien as the ones
Starting point is 03:13:03 that you currently encountered, or recently encountered. A lot of them wouldn't be jungle beasts, necessarily. You see a large elk, and you see one across the way that looks almost like a giant horned oxen that you've never seen in your life. That wouldn't be in a jungle. Mm-hmm. But it is a menagerie.
Starting point is 03:13:23 Caduceus, as we're walking over to the cave, do you mind if I swim alongside you? Be careful not to drink the water. Right, sure. Why do you think? Oh. It's for the beasts. Oh, no, that was entirely too ominous.
Starting point is 03:13:55 I don't need to swim, it's okay. Never mind. Happy to poke the... Do you think that perhaps these animals drank of the water and turned to stone? I don't know. Do you want to find out? I don't think so. Not particularly.
Starting point is 03:14:14 No, I mean, like, I think I've got some stuff that I could try to use. What do you mean? I bought these vials. Willow Shade Oil. What does it do? It can un-petrify someone. Oh, but maybe not.
Starting point is 03:14:38 Well. What does the Surgeon General's Warning Day say? I forgot. It's been petrified for the last minute. Oh. It has to be recently petrified. It's going to be a rapid application. Never mind. All right. Plus, they're not petrified.
Starting point is 03:14:56 These things are just really cool statues. They're right. There's nothing, there's no statues poised in fear or anything. There's a statues poised in fear or anything? There's a couple. Oh. The further you walk, you see a few more. That ominous sense begins to come over you as you begin to see some of these
Starting point is 03:15:18 arrayed in positions of people trying to possibly defend themselves as groups. Wait, people? People? Yeah, there were people there. It's a handful of people trying to possibly defend themselves as groups. Wait, people? People? Yeah, there were people. There's a handful of people you started to find, and they're getting more and more numerous the closer to the cave you get. I don't know that this would ever come in handy,
Starting point is 03:15:33 but I'm going to cast Water Breathing on everyone in the party for 24 hours. Okay. So you can all breathe underwater just in case you find the need to dive under the waves of the lake. So we're in the cave. You're not in the cave, you're walking towards it along the northern bank to the western side.
Starting point is 03:15:52 This is getting hard. Do you have to go through the water? No. Okay. Just in case it's a visual thing and water can help refract, I don't know. I want to start inspecting these people. Make a perception check. I am going to aid myself,
Starting point is 03:16:06 because this is giving me an EVG. Big cut. Ooh, 29. 29. Actually, it's... 70? 30. Okay. You begin glancing past, and what first you thought were just statues,
Starting point is 03:16:23 you begin to look towards some of these people, intrinsically, the faces, the expressions, beautifully captured, these moments of intensity, moments of anger, moments of fear. It's a wide variety of emotions, but they're intricately carved. There's one off towards the shore that you look over. Right near the water's edge, you see two taller figures
Starting point is 03:16:46 that strike a familiar sight. Both fear-bulb captured in an emotional moment of fear. The pair, female and older, they indeed resemble your mother Constance and your aunt Corrin. About 15 feet from them, another pair of figures captured in stone resemble your sister Calliope.
Starting point is 03:17:04 Her face resolute and her body fallen at an odd, stiff angle, while the other resembles your father Cornelius, seeming to try and pull her from the dirt, like a heavy chunk of a tree he himself captured in stone. Caduceus. We have to be very careful.
Starting point is 03:17:29 This is... These are my people. They were petrified? It's back up. That's... What do you mean? I'm going to slowly start pushing everyone back into the treeline.
Starting point is 03:17:50 Okay, as you take one step back and give everyone the point, you hear from the treeline heavy sounds, earthy impacts of dirt. Begin to find your ears. You glance towards the lifted shore. The treeline stands, and you see some deranged beast of some kind emerging from the shadowy edge.
Starting point is 03:18:14 The massive, swollen, bull-like creature begins to pick up speed towards you. Its thundering hooves, its body itself, a slightly pulling tapestry of metallic plates, where large spines of darkened metal emerge between them, its eyes glowing angry, as between where its limbs meet its body, little plumes of green fume emerge and drift around it
Starting point is 03:18:47 as it begins to rush towards you. That's where we're going to pick up next week. Aww. Your family? Oh shit. It's not everybody, but it's a lot. Does Greater Restoration? Greater Restoration undoes petrification.
Starting point is 03:19:08 It does. To one. One at a time. That's really cool. Yeah. I hear from that. Cool. Oh no. And that burns a big spell. Yeah, it's a big spell. It's a big level, right? We have to preserve the statues, right?
Starting point is 03:19:23 We just have to fight somewhere else than here. Yeah. How fast can we, well, we'll find out how fast we can. Is it like a minotaur? What is it? It is a massive looking bull creature, larger than any bull you've ever seen. Its body swollen and muscular, metal plated, almost in a colossus type way, but jagged
Starting point is 03:19:42 and not meeting properly, and these giant spines protruding from it. So the metal plates are not natural on it? I guess we can find out. You don't know. So quadrupedal or bipedal? Quadrupedal. Oh my gosh. And rushing towards you immediately at about maybe 60 or so feet from you.
Starting point is 03:20:01 He has to stand up. So we'll pick up from there next week. I thought he was going to go to the shore. We'll figure that out next week. You guys are pretty close to the shore and just began to move away when you heard this and turned and saw it. But we can't destroy them.
Starting point is 03:20:14 No. Oh. Sorry, you okay? Oh yeah, it'd be real bad to let this thing get near any of these, wouldn't it? Maybe steal that shit. Complicated battle ahead. What a reason to tune in. Motherfucker. I can't believe that shit. Complicated battle ahead.
Starting point is 03:20:25 What a reason to tune in. Motherfucker. Oh my god. There's a reason they hadn't gotten back to you or been home in a while. No, I know, I know. I'm sorry, buddy. It's okay. I knew something was going on.
