Hello again, it's Brennan Lee Mulligan, and you're listening to Part 2 of this episode of Critical Role.
If you haven't checked out part one yet, pause this now and head over there first. What are you doing?
Otherwise, let's jump right back into this adventure and the world of Aramon.
Dick Twist, we return.
Yes, we got it.
Cross it off your bingo cards.
We return to Oberimus Manor.
The stone door at the back of the vassal crypt slams shut.
The sputtering yellow light of a corpse candle flickers,
and to Octus, as you hear the cries of the shadows out there,
the emblem of how Saramai vanishes into smoke
and standing in the candlelight brought through the door.
You see the undead visage of Dame Gaia Saramai.
Your summoned undead, animated purely
through your own craft of necromancy.
I'm gonna fly over and land on your shoulder.
Have you done that before?
No, first time.
That was a lot.
How are we? How is everybody...
We are a little sore over here.
Is that under your control?
Yeah.
You sure of this?
She's with me.
She's strangely far more useful now than she was before.
You look, Julian,
Green serpent's eyes stare out.
Vail, sort of the fabric that was wrapped over her ruined face,
you hear.
In your head, Octus,
her whatever ruined face and neck under that veil
clearly does not give her the ability to form physical speech.
In your head, Octus, you hear.
Unfortunately, at this moment, that is not.
What's not practical?
Uh, sorry. I just learned she can speak to me.
Is anyone standing next to Dame Saromai?
Fuck, move. Out of your shoulder.
I think I have my rapier like halfway between the two of us
as I'm just kind of inspecting the remains.
Would you say that you're within five feet of her?
I'd say within 10 feet.
Okay, in that case you're fine.
Oh.
Did the electric slide.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Wait. Okay.
This is a lot worse than I hoped it would be.
Where are we now?
I don't really know.
I've never been down here.
Is this the, wait, wait.
Is this like the in-between?
Didn't you say there's like a,
is this like a portal sitch?
Like in between, this is the gooch under the...
I think we are in an in-between area
between the Tenebra reaches and my family's home.
Oh, you just built part of your basement
into the darkest space between the realms.
The same way your house, or at least they were,
you know, a golden orchard was linked to fairy.
Yeah, you don't have forever then.
So, can we light or have light of some kind?
We have the candles.
It's just the candles.
Shamed.
Were there candles on the pathway?
Were there lights on the pathway?
There is no. You don't even know that there is a pathway.
You just see that the floor falls away,
a sputtering little bit of candlelight,
but you hear a noise off in the darkness
like running water.
How does it feel as a fay creature
to be in this environment?
You feel yourself aging.
You feel yourself, this is a place of death.
Nothing grows.
here. There are no flowers blooming. It is
anathema to you. Nothing feels good about being here.
I'm gonna hold on to Octus's hair.
Um, we have to leave. We have to get out of here as fast as possible,
Octus. We're not done. Yes, I'm...
No, I know. We just have to get back to the house, please.
Yeah, no, I know. We have to get out of here. Um, but I think right now the only way
is forward. Yeah.
Two reasons. Find Mark.
hopefully find what links your sister,
the philacteri or whatever it happens to be.
You tell me if you sense anything.
I will, if I sense anything.
But let's go forward.
What does the ground look like going forward?
And how far does the candlelight stretch
since we're hearing that liquid sound?
Geometric marble of black and gray
into a kind of dappled white shelves,
As you take a step forward, you begin to see wreathed in funereal shrouds that the walls probably have five or six rows of shelves ascending up lined with bodies.
I'm going to immediately spend writing the threshold hit dice to go ahead and take some temporary hit points just in case.
Oh, cool. One.
Nice step to have. We have any. Is it you?
Matt, if you roll one on the hitcher,
So you get to roll it again.
I appreciate your consistency.
You still can't negotiate with me even as a fellow player.
Can't knock the hustle.
The light is only like five feet around us?
Yes, only five feet around you.
And we each have candles.
Besides thimble who can't carry one.
Okay.
Okay, let's space ourselves out a little bit.
Try and make this light last or cover as much area as possible.
Not too far. We lose you, we lose any connection to this place.
What's the wick made out of on the candle?
Rendered tallow of an origin that would require
a successful medicine check to determine.
People. People.
Okay.
I'm gonna start walking forward.
Moving forward through the catacombs,
go ahead and give me an investigation check.
I will assist you.
Okay.
With my tail flipping back and forth like so.
Diffusing the tension.
It's making me more nervous, actually.
Yeah, it looks really tense.
Spreading biscuits into your back.
Investigation, you said?
Yes.
22.
22.
You successfully move through the catacombs.
You arrive at a chamber that you see,
you approach and can hear loud running water in here.
It's an unsettling thing to hear something
that can be as normal sound as running water,
but the volume of it, because it's moving so quickly,
means you probably can't hear anything else
in here over the sound of the water.
As you arrive, you see this is cold river water, clearly coming from the mountains,
going underneath the manor out towards Lake Nahami.
And you can see there are a couple areas where an iron grate creates an easy bridge.
It's about 15 feet over this stream in this larger.
Like the room kind of opens up and you feel the quality of the air change as there's sort of a vaulted roof.
But I can't describe anything more than the five feet around each of you in sputtering candlelight.
Does it feel like there's an obvious path forward?
In this chamber, not quite. However, as you sort of come out and spread under this larger area,
you see a similar door, Octus, to, from the one you came to that you realize is going to the actual Taconas family crypt.
I can't hear you.
I can't hear what you're saying.
Shh.
The water.
Did you fly up next to his ears?
Points at the door over there.
We're going over there.
How do I yell in this voice?
You head over.
I look how giggly everyone is.
I find that that tends to happen
when people are in a lot of trouble.
Green and purple, shit is bad.
Our octave is going to rise.
It's the bad butterfly.
It's the bad butterfly.
You go to the crypt door there, and Gaia moves to open the door.
The door opens.
On that 22 investigation, you see the interred remains
of your actual family, not all of them.
The oldest are way back out in the old empire,
but there are a few here in Obermiss Manor.
And you see there are some empty place.
places as well. As you walk out here, you spreading out with the candles, quickly find a couple of things. Different remains. On a 22 investigation, you also find what looks like an ubliet, those places that you put someone in to forget about them, a single sort of place that you would leave someone to rot. And you see there are a number of remains down there. And there's a word in old obradah.
which is condemned to be forgotten over it.
These are family members of yours that betrayed the family,
who they didn't want to leave their remains
somewhere for anyone else to find,
but have literally been dumped into a massive hole
where they just commingle and fester here in the dark.
There's ever a possibility that they're keeping Mara
somewhere down here.
as a punishment.
Being down here,
as I'm sure you can tell, is unpleasant,
especially for one connected so heavily
towards the old path.
I don't know if they would put her in an upliette,
but...
Are there any others around?
Is it just one obliette, or are there more?
There's one here.
The other spaces you see is there are some open shelves,
and you do have Tertia's remains here with you.
And you also see that there is a,
enormous basin in the middle. What was a sort of altar in the Vassal's
crypt is here a basin and you look into the water there and you sense that this
basin is itself a viewing window into the tenebral reaches. Do I have any
experience in seeing my family use anything like this? You have definitely
seen them use it. Okay, so I kind of have an idea of like what they, at least the
physical motions of what they were doing to kind of activate this. Yes. Can I
make an archa check to figure out how this works.
Go ahead and give me an arcana check.
25.
Having hit that Nat 20 to like connect with the teneperable gloom in this place,
you see Dame Gaia takes a position behind you,
hand on her sword,
you see that you guys have this sputtering corpse light here
and can actually gather around in this place.
Octus, speaking the words in Old Obradai.
the waters glisten and you call out and view the nearness of death.
One of the things your family knows about the realms of death is that spirits of the dead
can move almost instantaneously between the geography of the underworld. People that go there
physically have a much harder time traversing it. Orpheus has got to walk, right? But that
doesn't apply to everybody else necessarily.
You, in looking, I'd like everybody here actually
to make perception checks, and I'll allow you to roll them
with advantage if you also make a wisdom saving throw.
If we make a wisdom saving throw.
I like them sticks.
Why don't I hate those things?
That was a terrible.
Oh, no.
14, and I did not take the wisdom set.
14, you got it.
Yeah, I'm not taking the wisdom save.
Great.
That's going to be, you said perception?
Perception. Okay, 19.
19.
12.
And I did roll with advantage.
So I rolled a 17 wisdom save.
Great. 17 wisdom save.
17 perception check also rolled with advantage for a wisdom save?
Wisdom save.
19.
19.
Teor and Thimble, you hear whispers of the dead nearby.
Julian, Octus, you look and observe.
And Octus, things ripple throughout.
You see everything here is in the nearness of death.
On those successful wisdom saves,
none of you venture beyond the little fold
in lost obsidia that is this house.
So the little fold of the underworld
that they nestled into just the darkness
at the bottom of this house.
None of you leave the front door
and go out into the wide world of-
Sid is also with us, right?
He's not wandering off, okay.
C-hmm.
Sid looks fine.
Okay.
19 was the highest role here, right?
All of you watched the same images.
We're gonna turn this into kind of a group check here.
Nearby, though you don't,
no one got above a 20, so you don't see,
like, direct pathways anywhere.
but you become aware of the following locations
that are close enough by in this tennebral gloom,
that they are either in the crypts with this darkness
or upstairs in the actual house itself,
which on a 19, it is high enough
to actually unlock some of those locations.
You see a wrought iron cage surrounded by other hanging cages
in what looks like an aviary.
This wrought iron cage,
Iron Cage has had the bottom of it, the ground, covered in razor-sharp rusted spikes. And you see
with a chain around its neck is a falcon that looks on the verge of death, who has been flying
perhaps for days, because any time it comes close to landing, it lands on the jagged spikes. And you
can see its eyes are white, having rolled back in its head, unable to land for some...
That's so sad.
That flashes by you.
You see as well
an image of your older brother,
but what you would recognize as another Taconas,
Julian, you would recognize this as Coral Taconas,
the eldest son of Primus,
who you see is in a bedchamber
with a,
it's basically a straight jacket on,
with iron bands around his,
legs and he is screaming and moving. He's had a muzzle on and he's just screaming at the top of his
lungs and you can see his rhythmically swaying from side to side. You see a dark gemstone on
the table next to him that appears to have a wisp of bright light within it as though containing
something beautiful and rare. You also see Julian in particular slabs of
marble laid out with your lovers, kinsmen, and countrymen, those that died in the
Palazzo de Vinos are here currently somewhere in this place, and you also see laid out in
the midst of a ritual chamber the monstrously mutilated body of your father that is still
here somewhere within this place. You see his sword leans beside
him on the separical altar.
You see flashing past you Thimble,
a desk filled with letters,
one of which has Theazi's name on it written in person
and correspondences.
You see also a book that appears to be open
that has the schematics of a ship.
It looks like it has enchantments for enchanting
a sailing vessel.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
We see Teor.
You also see crates filled with straw near some wagons.
And you see there are a trio of statues that looks like they are being packed up.
And it looks like three small armored gnomish warriors.
Thimble, you also see a vault of treasures and magical objects that just seems to spill out in all directions.
and Octus, you see, in addition to that,
Nalsha Vakari, your aunt,
and you also see your other aunt,
Trimus Taconas, who are both present at home at this time.
All of these images flashed before you.
Jay.
That was a lot.
Yeah, it was a lot.
Was that an aviary?
It looked like it.
Where's that?
Do I know of where an aviary would be in this house?
Unfortunately, you do.
Aviaries, you are in a crypt.
Aviaries tend to be at the top of a tower.
Okay, aviary's top of the town.
It went the wrong way.
Yes, we did.
Where is the gym?
No, the gem was on a bedside table.
The bed was, the gem was next to that old guy.
It was screaming in a...
Oh, that.
Yes.
Sorry. Yes.
That's my brother.
Brother is?
Probably in one of the rooms upstairs.
But we also saw your family down here.
Not in this chamber. This is reserved for my family,
but possibly out in the main hall here.
Also, so much.
Both my aunts still remain in the house.
Okay.
So that's going to make things...
Where were they?
Upstairs.
Upstairs.
Yes, I think so.
It's difficult to pinpoint exactly where they are
from just appearing in a room.
Okay.
So we get into the house?
When we go upstairs, we find my brother's room
to get the stone.
Try and get to the aviary.
First, we have to get out of here.
Right, then we just locked ourselves in,
and there is a bunch of surviving shade.
Well, there's a door right there.
We can get into the house from that door, right?
It's possible.
That's...
So let's fucking do that.
Give it a go.
Looking at the door at the beginning of this crypt,
you come to the understanding or realize that opening that door,
which was the thing that sort of, like,
if you remember the whole Teor in the previous combat,
like closing that front door,
opening that door may release guardians in this room as well.
If it functions on the same token as,
like, entering the crypt this way,
why would they trap that if you're coming from inside the house?
it's presumed that you should be in here.
I also am going to say above table.
The time is of the essence.
And I want to, in order to give your characters
the best chance at making wise strategic decisions,
I want to give you guys the above table game,
we are going to play
to deal with the threat of being discovered
at any possible moment.
So splitting up to cover more ground
exposes you to tremendous risk.
You guys were in tremendous risk
with all five of you fighting
just in the previous combat.
However, time is so of the essence
because you have the Taconas
is returning from the meeting of the Sundered houses.
And additionally to that, at any given point in time, someone could discover the dead gate guard.
Like, even if none of the others come home from the via Aurora, there's still any amount of things to discover.
So I want to try to give you the best mechanical insight into how urgent matters are.
After the next exploration, basically after the next scene, I'm going to ask everybody here to roll an eight-sided die.
If anybody rolls a 1, the risk increases.
And we drop down to rolling D6s.
We start to rolling D6s.
If someone hits that 1,
which with four people playing,
there's a 50% chance that someone will hit a 1 on a D8.
Okay, Matt.
Okay, Matt.
50% chance on someone.
That's me to beg.
It's right.
In that universe where someone hits a one on that D8, we would then roll D6s.
However, to represent the urgency of splitting up and why splitting up, which is such a bad idea in terms of challenge rating, but would be a good idea in terms of overall risk, after that first drop, you only roll with who's present in the scene.
Does that make sense?
So in other words, if you're all off on your own,
who are only in groups of two, someone hits that one.
Now just two of you are rolling the D6s
to see if it cascades and gets worse, right?
So if all of you go to the next location,
that's totally fine.
But it will mean that everybody rolls D8s,
and if someone hits a one, everybody rolls D6s.
Okay.
Judging by when you open the door,
this could trigger more things to wake up.
I know you're not here from Mara.
I know you are here to try and get your sister,
which I fully understand.
I can give you my memory of how to get to my brother's room
if you want to go there on your own.
Once we get out of here,
I don't know why they have my brother
wrapped up like that.
There's every possibility.
It's good to leave that person alive
if they could be on our side.
Maybe there's a reason.
They're quick to trust other tegonuses after what they've done to you.
That is surprising.
I'm sorry, I'm quick to trust a member of my family.
It's kind of...
Look, I'm not going to argue with you.
I'm just saying there's a possibility that we could have another ally inside the house.
Of course.
Well, first, we have to get out of here to trigger that door.
Do you have a way of testing if there are actual bindings to release guardians within?
Or know where it would trigger.
Is it a way to bypass this?
I could cast a spell.
and then his eyes flick over to Saramai.
But she'll go away.
I think we need this much as possible for what's coming ahead.
Gaia looks at you.
If you are loath to give her up,
she speaks in your head and says,
it is shorter and faster to cut through the courtyard.
But there is a way to creep up from the bowels of the house.
She's saying there's a way to get up through the bowels of the house
that is not through the courtyard all the way.
it will take longer, it might be safer.
I am far more in favor of going towards that door,
since we don't know what horror's lie behind it,
because the one behind us, it sucks ass.
I agree.
How much longer?
Do you know how long it will?
I'm making the right choices.
I believe what they are offering is a way through
less physical means, meaning further through
Tenable reaches, area infused with this energy.
It will be very unpleasant, but we may not wake
the guardians here.
But we don't have a lot of time.
My family will be coming back at some point.
And did the candles last time
bring more shade enemies once we were in that area?
It wasn't the, okay.
They were just part of that area.
It wasn't lighting the candles.
No.
There's no time.
Do you trust, Siramae?
I trust that she is giving me the information
that will help us hurt my family.
I like that.
Let's go.
We take that plan.
You guys head off into the dark.
As you begin to move back out the way you came in,
closing the crypt door behind you, the question becomes,
as you begin to move through, do you want to remain together
to navigate, or do you want to split up early
and start making your way to other
different locations.
I want to get to that aviary as quickly as possible.
I think once, for, it makes sense to me
that once we get to an area that is actually
in the physical realm of the house, then we split up.
Okay.
That makes sense to me.
Yeah, I'm a little confused about like.
Physical, like where you guys are.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Moving back out to that area of the river,
you look out and hear that river rushing off
just into the darkness, just sucking down
into an underground river and vanishing.
Past that, you see there are a set of double doors
that begin to move through what seemed like ritual chambers
that are still in this tennebral gloom,
and you arrive at another series of catacombs
on the other side of that.
There are several doors at the beginning of those catacombs
that you sense would lead towards staircases up into the main house.
So you can split up here, or you can all
try to get out of the gloom together.
From my memory, giving a rough idea
of where we might be underneath the house
and knowing where my brother's room might be,
can I sort of make an educated guess
as to which stairway would lead towards that
and which stairway might lead closer to the aviary?
I will, I think, go ahead and give me a history check,
just at DC 12.
That is 16.
16.
My brain is a...
I will...
I think that you,
honest, on a 16,
you know,
you can give advantage
to anybody looking for
your brother's room.
That's a room you definitely
have been to before.
Can we also just restate
individual objectives?
Yes.
Mara Aviary.
I think that's mine as well.
You?
I'm...
For Mara Aviary,
I'm helping you as much as I can
to get to what your sister needs,
but...
Your sister.
You're not going for the statues?
No, why would you?
With those three little gnomes?
Three little nomish warriors.
I didn't recognize that at all.
Are they the little sisters?
I think they're the little sisters.
I think they're the daughters.
Yeah, I mean they're the daughters.
I really do. He made a face.
I really think they're the daughters. I know.
The visions are alive.
I think they're the daughters.
It's trying to distract us.
You have to save the daughters.
You knocked the accent out of my mouth.
Tear.
I got to go find this.
statues? Do you, do you know where those statues could be?
Did they look to be, they look to be in sort of like a, like a, uh, uh, anti-champ or something.
Yeah. It's still, I think they'd still be upstairs.
Upstairs.
So when we get up, we split, you go for the statues, you are going for those stairs and...
You could get the gem?
That's like telling me to find the pantry in a fucking castle I've never been in.
Your direction once we're up there and I can, once I see where we are, it's just difficult to tell from down.
here. He's trying to split us up. It seems like it's going to be great because we're going to
be to have a better chance when we roll, but also we're going to get more fucked because we don't
know where we're going. Sid looks over at you and says, okay, I'm with Deor. But he looks and says
what these, the statues are. There are these three girls. There was this really nice
normal man who helped us and he said to look for his daughters and I don't know. They might not be
them, but I just really thought they might be them.
He keeps waiting for them to come home.
Yeah, hopeful that they were returned from the...
But it's probably just some gnomes.
Did it seem like girl gnomes?
Can we tell from the statues?
It's also a hell of a thing for us to see.
I feel like this place is reading my mind.
Also, just throw it out there, the question of how we're going to get him out of here.
You're right, you're right, you're right, you're right.
He's got to look at the fuck he's...
We are very strong.
Yeah.
I'm sorry.
Look, one, two, three, four.
We gotta go.
We gotta say now.
He's going with me.
I'm going.
Okay. I kind of give you vague directions as to where, if we are where we think I am underneath the house.
Exactly. How many doors are we looking at? Three, four, five. How many are there for them?
There are four doors leading out from this? Of course.
I ask. As part of this, I say.
And where from your brother's room do I get to the aviary?
I kind of do a little bit of like, I think you go. Okay. And I give direction as much as I can remember through there.
And we're going to have advantage on your investigation check to get to Corral
room and advantage on investigation to get to the Aviary.
All right, cool.
Open the, like where my gauntlet is in the metal side of it.
I go ahead and like scratch as part of my cheek
and kind of like just draw a quick little sketch
with my bloodlet on the metal there.
Hell, yeah.
All right.
Okay, remember, both things can be a problem.
Either try not to let my brother see you,
but also don't necessarily kill him.
He might be an ally.
I don't know if he sees you and we don't kill him.
He could tell on us.
Also, we gotta go.
I know, he gotta go.
Okay.
Julian is going for Coral Taconas.
Oh, Julian.
Octus.
Octus?
As he starts to go for the door,
I take out of my bag and I slap a glyph on you.
I put it on your chest.
Use it if you're about to be hit.
It's a shielding glyph.
It was mine.
Wasn't it mine?
Yeah, it was a...
But it's too little.
You should use it, Julian.
Appreciate it.
Julian heads off with his corpse-like candle into the dark.
Octus with Dame Sarama.
And are you in Thimble going for the aviary?
Yes.
I believe so, yeah.
And Teor and Sid.
Are you going?
Which one are you going for?
Fuck you.
I've gone and look for a little...
There's also a book.
There's also the thing with the book, with the ship and the letters.
The ship is the...
The enchantments for the ship are what they were using to be able to sail.
through to Never Reach us.
If we do need to go there at some point,
that book could be valuable.
Yeah. Yeah. Look, guys, splitting the party is a bad idea.
I know. I'm a giant lion walking around
with another fucking lion in a place we're not supposed to be in.
You want me to go look for statues or a desk?
All I'm saying is that on our way out with Mara,
we might be able to grab it on the way out.
Okay, okay, then let's go.
A friend Valis might show up to help us.
Anytime.
Have a feeling.
Yeah.
I'm going to go look.
You're going for, we're going for Mara on the wing first.
We're going for tomorrow.
Sid looks at you too.
We're going to go for statues.
Yeah.
I'm off.
You're off.
Okay.
So what I'm going to need, first off,
first off, baby, is, is we, these are some DC,
this investigation check.
This investigation check is going to be a DC 15.
This is going to be a DC-15,
but you're making a group check with your brother.
You guys are making a group check as well
to find Mara.
This is going to be a DC-18, slightly harder to find Mara.
Okay?
So let's go here first.
But he's because he knows the house?
To find the eight.
No, I said on that 16, you don't have advantage finding the aviary.
So let's roll for Julian first.
Advantage DC-15 investigation.
Okay.
It's going to be 16 plus zero.
Zero.
Okay, let's go ahead for finding Mara rolling investigation.
It's group investigation, so you can both roll and we'll take the higher of the two.
Before I make this roll,
Kimmel, do you want me to go with first row with a natural one?
No, don't come with me, go look for fucking Mara.
20!
It's investigation, right?
Investigation, right?
Investigation.
That's 15 for me, but yeah, yeah.
Okay, 15 for you.
We are gonna go with the higher of the two.
And Tayor, go ahead and roll for me.
And you're gonna roll.
Brother rolled a three.
Thirteen.
Thirteen.
Plus anything.
Plus one. This is a 13.
Okay.
Okay.
That's all I need to get to pottery bar.
Fine.
What is Sid roll? What is Sid roll?
Three.
Thirteen is not high enough.
Yeah.
So.
Grab some fucking garden gnomes.
Just call them nomish.
Get the fuck out of here.
And I'm not dying to lose that hammer.
I'm gonna be in big trouble.
Axe, it's an axe!
I mean sorry.
I wasn't wanting to pay attention.
Now what I'm going to need,
now what I'm going to need are stealth checks.
Okay, okay, okay.
Is it group stealth as well?
Group stealth as well.
Do we get advantage for being thelined?
No.
You got fur on your paws.
What's that?
The end, it is a seven, my friend.
Okay, okay, okay, I bet.
17 plus six.
23.
Wow.
Really? I don't have like a
X-billed leather baby.
What did we get here?
26. 15, 15.
And Tehr got a 7.
Lucky. Lucky. Lucky seven.
Lucky seven. Lucky number seven.
Okay.
Lucky number 13.
Julian, slinking through the shift.
you find your way upstairs as fast as you can.
As you arrive, you see there's a long hallway.
Windows face out to a side courtyard.
You look up and see gray nighttime sky overhead.
And you see that there's a, you see that there are bars
set over that have been added to the outside
this ornate room and you hear muffled screaming
from inside the room.
You walk up and have been undetected here.
You hear screaming from inside.
Give me another perception check.
Natural 19 for a dirty 20.
Stop it.
You're taking all my shit, all right?
I just need some of that.
You hear fiddle music distantly.
Something fiddling.
It's like there's like a merry tune.
on the wind, like maybe at another,
like a manor house elsewhere in the neighborhood.
Oh, it's not the same direction as the...
But no, it does feel like it's coming through the door.
Oh, interesting.
But there are these large bars set over the door here.
But they don't appear to be...
They're only stop...
You realize they are set to stop something inside
from getting out.
What do you do?
Okay.
So, so...
Sorry, just kind of put this in here.
So I hear the muffling sound,
the same sound this music is coming from.
through a door, or just further down the hall?
The door that you believe to lead to Coral's room
has the faintest possible fiddle music playing from inside.
Right. But, all right.
You really want you to let whatever's inside.
Of course. What do you think I'm gonna do?
It's pretty crazy.
I'm going to rapier at the ready.
Mm-hmm.
And as quietly as possible, check to see if the door is
able to be open.
You would have to move the bars out of the way,
but going to the latch, the door is open.
Shifting the bars quietly one by one.
You shift the bars out of the way
and can open into this inner chamber
as you walk inside, glowing embers from a fireplace.
You see there is a basically like a,
Basically like a table top.
It has no legs, but the ornate slab of polished mahogany is floating in the air as Coral Taconas has iron bands attached to his legs.
And he is lashed to the tabletop, which is floating like a kite in the wind, chained to a bolt in the ground.
He is muzzled and in a straight jacket twisting back and forth.
Staying as low as I can in glancing within the chamber,
do I see anybody else a source of this music?
Give me a perception check.
I don't remember my brother being like this, correct?
No.
Okay. This is a 12.
There's no one else that you can see.
There's embers burning.
And you see that there's a bedside table.
There's a desk with various writing on it.
And you see that there is, on a 12 perception,
I don't think you see anything else.
No, you'd have to do a deeper investigation.
It's quite a cluttered room.
I will just carefully close the door almost entirely, not entirely,
but just to where if anybody's passing by the hall at a glance,
it would look like at least the chamber is closed.
But still easy to push through if need be.
And at this point, I'm just gonna stand up
and walk towards that bedside table.
You would walk.
The maddening eyes of Coral Taconas look at you
as he goes,
Mh, mm, ha, he, he,
shaking his head side to side
as you approach the bedside table.
A look at him.
Do his eyes seem to be more perturbed at my presence,
or is he reacting as a warning?
every vein on his face is standing up.
He looks as though he's upside down,
like that blood is rushing to his head.
And it's hard to get a beat on him
because this table is like twisting around
like it's a leaf in the wind.
Just like standing near this thing,
you might get clocked.
It's like that it's this.
No wind in the room.
No wind in the room.
Just
V-hmm, fom, whom.
You should definitely touch it.
Of course. What else are I going to have?
You can give me an insight check into him if you want to.
I'd like to, actually.
Go for him.
This is where you close in two.
Hell yeah. This is my best one.
All right, so insight.
That's going to be natural four, minus one for a three.
There's something he knows that you don't know.
Yeah.
I look at the table.
I look back at him to corners.
I just hold the blade a little over and say,
Your family has taken nearly everything from me
and has definitely taken most everything
from your own brother, Octus.
I look in your eyes and see where you are now.
Do you still consider your family kin?
You feel you've been wronged by them?
E-e-h-h-h-h-h-h-h.
And you do or do not want me to have what's inside this?
He! E!
Ha-ha-eh!
Ha!
A insane interaction!
Every part of my being says I should dispatch you now,
just by the namesake you carry.
But your murdered and returned brother
has said, with grace and mercy,
perhaps there is still an ally within you yet.
I don't know if that is true or not,
but I will look into this and find what I seek.
And if anything on tour comes to me,
your throat will spill at first sign of my blade.
Give me an investigation check.
Oh my God, bro. What the fuck?
That's gonna be 14.
You reach down and see a beautiful.
a beautiful jet black gemstone.
As you take hold of it, you look at the wisp of white light
within haunted expression of Alba de Vinos.
For you, haven't yet.
You recognize in this moment that clearly Coral was at fault.
You look and see that the gemstone,
near by his person, there is some magical connection to it.
Give me a perception check again as well as a,
call it a wisdom saving throw.
Perception check. Awesome. Four.
Wisdom saving throw, 16 minus one.
15. Great.
You have the gemstone in your hand.
Corral is still here swaying and screaming on this.
table chained up in this room, but you hold the gemstone with your sister's life, soul, whatever,
horrifying Taconas necromancy sealed her in this spectral curse, but you have that gemstone here in your hand.
I'll take this gemstone. I pocket it safely and look to him and go.
I see perhaps the culpability that seems to be.
permeate the entirety of your house.
And here in the quiet side of this chamber,
it is important to me to do what is right by my family.
And I wait for a moment where the silent wind
seems to not keep him battering at bay.
And with just still calm expression,
dispatch him as quickly as possible.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Fuck it worse, start.
The table swivels
around and you see that there's almost like a pattern and you realize that fiddle music,
it's swaying to the rhythm of a devenos dancing tune.
This to conis, he was present at the fall of the golden orchard.
The reason that he has lashed to this table is that he can't stop dancing.
Fairy magic has been on him ever since the orchard fell.
And as soon as you recognize the tune
that's playing with a dancer's grace,
spin beneath and around.
I time it so that make sure that we keep eye contact
as long as possible as he spins, I duck.
I almost, it's almost like following
and leading a partner back and forth.
I watch him
acknowledge the slow eventuality
before I come close and hand over the muffle.
Blood spills forward, gushes over the floor
at the crescendo of the dance.
And the table collapses to the ground.
His corpse still lashed to it.
He attacked me first.
As you turn, as you turn,
Julian. On that 15, you stumble and feel that you are having a hard time exiting the room. As you turn, you look, your shadow stretches from your feet as you cross the fireplace and you look unmistakably. Your shadow is stretching out where your arms and your shoulders.
would be reaches to the desk in the other room.
And though you are standing with your hand
by your rapier hilt, your shadow is thumbing through
the papers on the desk.
Oh, my God.
What the fuck?
It grabs a piece of paper.
And it seemingly levitates
off of the table and then drops
as though your shadow is stunned.
We are going to move from this scene.
Hell yeah.
Hell yes.
It's fun.
Very fun.
Another notch.
Sorry.
It's fine.
No, you know, I mean, it had to happen.
He does know, I know, it's fine.
And that's our second Tricone is down.
Yay!
All of the first one fell in a water.
We don't know.
Yeah, we don't know.
We don't know.
We don't know.
We don't know.
Well, they're dead,
yeah, I know I'm dead.
We're all four, but I need.
Yeah, yeah.
Hell yes.
For Octus and Thimble.
I'm Thimble.
Octus and Thimble, yes.
Sorry, there's so much crazy, fairy stuff happening.
You know.
You know the characters
been here the whole time?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You guys arrive
at our next location.
You guys get up into a tower,
climbing up as fast as you can.
And yes.
How much noise is...
I hate this.
I should roll stealth for Dame Saramai.
Oh yeah, you should. Go for it.
She's dead. She's so quiet.
She's so quiet.
We got a 20 something here.
We got like a...
I rolled a natural 20.
Natural 20, great.
Where the hell? Okay, there we are.
For investigation.
For investigation.
The stealth check was a 26.
26, great.
Eight.
Eight.
Great.
26 stealth, and you rolled a 15.
So I, at 15, so in hearing this,
in hearing her being loud.
Yeah.
In that moment, I need you to go away for a while.
I'll bring you back.
Okay, and she says, in your mind,
you hear a thimbaloges just her going,
and Octus, in your mind,
She goes, I'll only keep you here for about an hour.
It will always bring you back.
We'll find you, and I will pull you back when I can.
But I can't keep it here forever, not yet.
As you say not yet, she raises a hand to your cheek.
And I let the concentration go.
Shadows, and she's gone.
Oh, shit.
I don't know what you guys were talking about, but that looks intense.
She is coming to terms with the fact that she has misspent her life.
Yeah.
Good, finally. It's, you know, nature versus nurture kind of thing.
You guys arrive at the top of a tower. Teor and Sid.
Yeah, we're ready, bro.
All by ourselves. We don't need anyone else.
You know, if you'd have been with us, you would have fucked us, so it's probably good that you...
You don't know. I've rolled like king lately.
Okay, Tayor and Sid,
moving through the shadows, your candles here,
you get to an area where you walk through
and see there are dead bodies laid out on altars everywhere.
On that low investigation and low stealth,
you enter and walk into a space
at the end of this area there is a chamber.
where you see there is one of the most horrifying corpses
you've ever seen.
At first, the corpse like candle, you just see fine breeches,
soft leather boots, but at the waist,
it looks as though the skeleton has been fully separated
from the flesh.
So if you can imagine a grown man's body, a warrior,
if his skeleton bent over at the waist,
but his flesh did not.
Stayed behind.
Stayed behind.
You see a beautiful basket-heltered rapier.
You've never seen General Raymond Tavinos.
So you'd have no way of recognizing this body.
In a tall tower, wretched ritual crypt
that House Taconas has to offer.
you will all be rolling initiative.
It's fine.
It's gonna be fine.
We're good, we're good.
We all get in.
Where are you going?
Where are you going?
Where are you going?
Don't leave us here with combat.
Wait, Redd.
He's getting math.
Can I, I forgot to say during us,
I can, for my durable feed, I can heal
with the bonus action.
Can I say I've done that while we were.
Yes, you have five hit dice to spend.
If you would like to have spent them,
go ahead and spend it.
Yeah, I would like to spend one of them.
at least.
You got it.
Or two of them.
No, wait, what's my hit dice?
Five.
Da-da-da-da, okay.
I don't know.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right.
This seems fine.
Yeah, those are just Tesla coils.
We're good.
You guys are good.
And we're gonna go ahead and put
our birdie friend in here.
It's a little bit lumpy.
That's okay.
All right.
We have our aviary, and I am going to move it here,
and place Octus, pin and fin.
A pin is dead.
Sorry, pin.
The pin evaporated last time.
And I haven't had a chance.
That spell wasn't prepared today.
Okay. What did we get for initiative, Teor?
door?
Uh, 19.
17 plus 2.
What did we get here for Julian?
10 plus 4 for 14.
14. What do we get here for Octus?
19.
19.
What did Thimble get?
I got 13.
13.
That's crazy.
I rolled really shit.
Okay.
I'm going to get our other location.
You don't need to.
You can just do this one.
I just win mine.
We actually like we could just theater of them mind it.
We were just sitting in the audio.
hitting the audio battle.
You pull the rest of the skeleton out of his meat-sack body.
We take the sword, we give it to Julian.
No big deal.
Okay.
I don't think you went for it.
Oh, look at us.
That looks like my bedroom.
Here we go.
Okay, two separate areas of the manor.
We are going to grab Teor and your brother.
Thank you.
So we haven't, your brother, Talsitamir,
who's got his own little.
Look, it looks so great.
We're fucking dead.
Oh, man, why are there so many coffins in there?
You didn't warn us about the coffins.
We're going to the decision-making process.
You're right.
He said there were a bunch of dead bodies laying on the ground.
He did say that.
So you see, indeed, that on the table before you,
Raymond de Vinos is laid out.
I'm also going to, and then Julian is,
elsewhere in the manner, but we will get to your initiative in a moment.
What I would love is a perception check from thimble and octus, first of all.
I also think respectfully we would have been a little further away from the table just for safety's sake.
But you only have candles that...
Oh, it's like five feet.
It's five feet.
Yeah, elimination.
21.
21.
So we are going to move into initiative order.
As we do so, Julian, you are watching your shadow
interacting with papers over on a desk.
The first time you have really seen it move
without doing a threatening kill you kind of thing.
Yeah.
You also, for you guys out here,
Fimble and Octus, on that 21 perception,
you hear the slavering clicking of ghouls
on the other side of this door.
And Taor and Talsidimir,
this chamber leads out into an area
that had all of those dead bodies of the Divinos,
Plato de Vino's, all of Julian's countrymen.
We definitely shut and barred the door
until it came in, right? Just like standard operating.
You believed you were on your way
to an outer courtyard with some stone statues on it.
You just went the wrong way.
Is that what happened?
You rolled a three on investigation.
It was a 13.
Was it 13? Oh, it was 13. It was 13, which is not a 15.
The, uh, so.
We're gonna tell.
So close.
Octus, you hear some slivering ghouls
in the chamber beyond here.
And we are going to begin
and you see Teor and Talcidemir.
Raymond de Vinos on the table.
You're mostly looking at his skeleton.
The metaphor, I believe you used was like a ten
in this club sweater over your back.
Club sweater, tight.
His boneless arms are tied over him,
sort of embracing his chest.
You see his skullless sort of fluid head
of skin and brain.
The eyes snap open.
Oh, God.
The skeletons, the skull opens its jaw
and the lips part on the flesh.
And all of you hear a bellowing
howl from within the manner.
We all hear it.
You all hear it.
Oh no.
Shit.
But we hear it not coming from the room,
but from behind, like from behind us.
You hear it so distantly.
You hear like a deep, deep low.
Deep, deep low.
Yes, correct.
Octus, you are first to act.
As you turn to me and say, that's not good.
You can see Octus, his eyes just like glassed over.
and hearing the sound of ghouls
is having kind of just like
is kind of stunned because of what happened
and sitting there.
Um,
there are ghouls on the other side of this door.
Okay. Are we going to open the door?
Sorry, they, um,
my brother used ghouls to...
Oh.
It's okay. Um, we just, just give me mad.
I was slightly push open the door just to kind of look inside.
Give me a stealth check.
It's gonna be a very high difficulty
because they're right on the other side of the door.
That door is a nine.
They are completely alerted to your presence
and see you as you open the door and-
Hey, it's your turn.
That's your object interaction
and I'm gonna need your action, movement,
or bonus action.
Okay, just reached it, like, still looking at.
It just reaches into his coat and pulls out a small,
like, sort of bound up but full cat skeleton
and just opens a portal and the undead monitor lizard
just out into the room and goes in charges
for one of the things.
That'll be my action.
So I'm casting a summon undead critter.
You got really weird.
Incredible, go ahead and roll your attack.
Yeah.
and see you.
Yeah.
It's impressive.
My weirdness?
Yeah.
Go ahead and give me your attack roll.
All right, so this technically goes,
so after my turn, so I don't have a bonus action
to initially use right now, so I will end my turn
and go to my summons turn.
Great.
Let me pull up that thing here.
There is someone under it.
Okay, so it'll run forward.
How many ghouls do we see?
There are two.
Okay, so it's gonna run to
the one on the left, it'll go over to that and it's going to be, it's going to make a multi-attack.
With the, no, it'll make one attack. Great.
With a rotting rend. So, T. Tair, you're up on deck right after this. Oh, cool. Great.
That is a rotting red at the playdium ones. It's going to be a 17 to hit. 17 to hit is a hit. That's correct.
Get him. Get him away.
Make them hurt.
You're making me so nervous.
Good, good.
What is it?
What is it?
Detect magic spell, in theory,
outline anything past that five foot bubble of light?
Yes.
Yes.
So this is going to be eight, nine.
This is 12 points of necrotic damage
from the rotting rent attack, and then if it's not immune to poison,
it makes a constitution saving threat.
If it is not immune to poison damage.
To poison, the poison condition.
It is immune to the poison condition.
Then it does not make a Constitution saving drug.
So it just takes 12 points of damage.
This monitor lizard surges out towards this school,
biting into it ferociously.
Just like ripping back and forth.
That way lizards do, where they're just trying
to tear chunks of meat out of.
Yep. Incredible.
This thing leaves out, ghoul squares up with the
monitor lizard deep down below. I will also mention here, the aviary above ground is not affected by
the tenembral gloom is affected by the enhancement to necrotic damage. Copy. We can see,
but we'll, we're able, I, I am protected and thimble is protected. Against necrotic damage.
Great, cool, cool, cool, cool. Teor. We just have the one candle between the two of us, right?
No, Sid's got his own candle. Yeah, baby, of course we do. I remember. Let's make it sure.
And Raymond on the table,
begins to howl and looks at you as this horrifying, undead monstrosity.
Raymond, let's not fight, let's be friends.
And I'll swing the big axe towards Raymond and see how we,
how we, how we, how we, how we, how we, how we, how we, how we, how we, how we, how we, how we, how we, how we, how we, he is prone.
So you will get advantage on this first attempt.
Let's go, let's go.
Natural 20.
Oh my God.
That's how you start.
Okay.
Do your turn at the end of your turn.
You will level up to level five.
Yes.
Amazing. Okay. I don't know.
I panicked.
Okay, D12, I've done this before.
Where is that?
Are you auctioning something off?
In my brain? Yes, I am.
Okay.
So that's 12 points of damage.
I don't think it'll take any necrotic because...
No. We won't take any necrotic.
But I don't think you're dealing that. If you're smite ain't or no, you're-
I am going to add a divine smite on this with my bonus action, which will be 3D8 because
it's undead, correct? Yes, 3D8. And you're doubling that. Yes, that's an 8. That's a 6.
That's also an 8. Oh, my God. Jesus.
22, so 44. And what did I say? 12? 12. 24. I can do math. That's 68.
points of radio damage for Raymond.
Um, you, uh,
with him on the table, you cleave one of his arms off.
Boom, axe overhead, boom, one of his arms flings off to the side.
Skeleton armor.
I think skeleton, skeleton arm.
Yeah, you gotta get the sweater.
Yeah, gotta get the sweater around.
It's like kind of sassy off one shoulder now.
I do like Halloween preppy though.
It's a good look.
That is going to be, that is your action and your action
and your bonus action was casting Divine Smite.
Yes, it was.
I will move around.
This is Sid, right?
Yes, that's Sid.
You know what? I'll just move around to the right
a little bit.
In case you want to flank.
At the end of the turn, right?
At the end of his turn.
Yeah, the next turn you will have your extra attack,
which is great.
Blah-la-la-la-la-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha.
Okay.
You're going to move, you're going to move around Sid?
I'm going to move counterclockwise,
just kind of telling him, like,
if he moves clockwise, we could be able to flank around this guy.
Gotcha.
to squeeze in over here, essentially.
But you're not, you're trying to not leave his threatened area.
Gotcha, great. Cool. You get to the foot of the bed,
like, let's go to fucking work on this guy.
60 points of radiance damage is fucking crazy.
That's how you open.
Where is that all campaign?
Okay, it is the ghoul's turn.
Oh, bad.
Uh, da-da-da.
What is the armor class of your monitor lizard?
Oh, do-d-do-d-do-do-do.
It is...
Thank Ingrid Einfeas.
Come on, come on, come on, come on.
Here it is...
DC, or AC is...
It is...
Okay, so 13.
13.
Okay, that is one hit from the first ghoul
that deals five piercing damage
and six necrotic damage.
It is immune to necrotic.
Just five piercing.
Five piercing.
The other ghoul is going to rush you, Octus.
And it's going to make a claw attack.
Does an 18 hit?
It does.
I will use a reaction to cast shield.
What does that raise your armor class to?
It raises it by five, so that will raise it to 21.
You, it misses.
The claw, necrotic energy repels that attack.
We are going to go,
Back down, Raymond DeVinos is going to stand.
Rand.
Stans atop the table using half his movement.
Was the arm that fell off the one holding the sword?
Or the one holding the...
One sword left.
He takes Spretzatura.
He takes the blade of the Davino's family.
I'm sorry.
That's a cool sword name.
He takes his family blade.
Do you want this important sword, the Gazuntite sword?
Of course.
Of course.
Julian doesn't know.
Matt?
Watch it.
Do you want the Spetzel?
I don't like it when he reads this long as long as it's going to be good.
Sure, it's fine.
I'm sorry, it's fine.
Okay.
He is going to attack twice with his dread blade.
You could just do once.
Is a 22 hit?
It is.
And I assume it 26 hits as well.
You want to have your brother bring it to me.
Oh no.
Those are really high hits.
I'm sure the damage is.
The first hit is 12 slashing damage
plus 22 necrotic damage.
On the first hit?
34 points of damage.
34 points of damage.
Boom, boom, boom, boom.
Wait.
Wait, wait.
Yeah. Good night. Unconscious.
Did I burn a desperate measures as well?
In the previous one, I did, the one that let me disengage, right?
Yeah. Which is one marked failure, R.A. in there.
Oh, man.
You've done, you, I will say this. You moved Raymond into bloodied status.
So, arm gone, he is fucked up, but they are creating, they are breeding or construct
a necromanic Hulk down here
with the body of Raymond Davinos.
You eliminated more than half of his hit points.
I was just looking for statues, Brendan.
I wasn't looking for the .
You rolled a 13, dog, so next time roll a 15
and you'll get the statues.
Yeah, yeah.
Teor, you are unconscious.
You collapse to the ground.
He has a second attack.
He is going to wheel on Sid.
Is it a two-handed sword or a one-handed sword?
One-handed.
Good-handed.
Good try.
Yeah, I was just trying.
See how you didn't even have to look up to the answer?
I know, I know.
I'm going to roll this in front of the board to keep everything super honest down here.
What's going to happen now is he hits Sid on a nine or higher.
Oh, Lord.
How many hit points of said that have, by the way?
You healed Sid for a tremendous amount.
I did.
I think 20 or something?
You healed him for a tremendous amount.
That's a natural one on the die.
That one, baby.
Watch that hits.
So good.
Bonus action.
Raymond is going to...
Everybody loves Raymond.
They didn't know.
You already did it.
Only math heard me.
Okay.
Cid has to beat,
Cid has to get an eight or higher on the die
or become grappled.
Come on, Sid.
Six, Cid becomes grappled.
Tair, as you are on the ground dying,
Sid wants to get to you and again,
however, now, wait a minute, you just went down.
You need to roll extra hit points
for leveling up to level five, correct?
Because it was the end of my turn?
to the end of your turn.
Ramon went to the end of your turn.
So let's go ahead and resolve that.
D12's, right?
You might not be all the way down, yes.
That's cocked.
It's an eight.
Eight plus your con modifier is.
Is three, so nine, ten, eleven.
How many hit points did you have?
It was exactly the damage.
It was exactly the damage.
Exactly to zero.
So sorry, gang.
You see an image of what might have been,
but at the end of your turn you level up to five,
you are still up in standing.
He misses,
That's nine lives, baby.
That's nine lives, baby.
Miao.
Miao.
Maw.
You see that skeleton misses you on a gnat one.
Oh.
Misses you on that nat one second attack.
However, behind you, you see the flesh, torso, and arms,
peels off and grapples talcidamere,
stretching the skin of its face and head out to cover his head.
his head.
And the rest.
heinous.
I love it.
Awesome.
I'm yes anding Alex and the family that he asked for.
You did this to us.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Unbelievable.
Okay, I will also point out, so go ahead and level up your character,
because I believe you also get another five points of Leon hands as well.
Another five at the next level, okay.
Yes.
And you have now, because what you said, you got 11 new hit points.
Yes.
So you're at 11 HP right now.
I can't not envision it like a wacky, waving inflatable tube man.
Like who framed Roger Rabbit?
Julian.
Yes.
You're in the room.
There's your shadow at a desk.
You hear a howl from down below somewhere
of some undead monstrosity.
What do you do?
So the shadow just was looking at papers and dropped one.
Dropped one, yeah.
I'm gonna rush over, snatch whatever paper it was looking at.
Kind of glare at my shadow and then go into a full sprint
with my action to dash as well and just try and like follow the
rememberance to where the aviary is.
Okay, so you're going for the aviary, got it.
As you head-
I don't know where the fuck you are.
You don't know where the fuck it is, it's true.
Pottery born, baby.
You're headed for the aviary, baby.
Go ahead, give me investigation.
You roll with advantage.
That's an 18 and the 12, so 18.
18.
On the 18, you surge out of there with the papers
that you grasped, go ahead and roll a 1D4.
Mm.
Two.
Two.
You will make it there in two rounds.
Got it.
As you are rushing forward, as you're sprinting through this place,
you see your shadow picking up behind you
as you are racing through the halls of Obermiss Manor.
that appears to, you hear howls of other things moving.
There is one moment where you're turning a hallway
on that too, you feel yourself moving in front of a torch
and your shadow, as it did in the desert,
yanks you off the hallway into a staircase.
And a moment later, you hear skeletons coming around
that you would have run right into
as you see the staircase ascending up towards the aviary.
So the shadow actually helped me.
That's correct.
All right.
We're all this other extra shit come from.
Wait, you have a lot of extra shit?
What the fuck?
Do you have a spell now?
It is now, it is now going to be,
but bubba, it is now going to be Julian.
The first of your two rounds of travel occur,
that's round number one.
You will have one more round of travel
and appear the turn after that.
That sounds good.
Great.
Thimble, that is your turn.
Okay, okay.
I'm gonna fly up and fly to the
the backside of the ghoul so I flank it and I get advantage.
Mm-hmm.
And I'm gonna hit it with my rapier.
Okay.
Into the teacup.
Gross. It still had some coffee in there.
I'm so sorry.
Just give a quick sign.
Oh, my God.
Love it, love it.
The coffee cursed me. It did not roll well.
Did you roll with advantage because you're flanking?
No! Ha ha ha!
That's way better.
That was 14 plus eight.
That's 22. That is a hit.
Okay.
You'll roll with sneak attack here as well.
Yes, yes, yes, yes.
Eight plus five is 13.
And then my sneak attack is, I remember,
3D6.
One, two, three, seven, eight.
Okay, so plus eight.
So 21.
No, 20 points of damage.
20 points of damage.
Thimble, you with the toy sword,
and just rotten blood comes pouring out of the open neck
as the head falls to the ground in front.
You have destroyed this ghoul in front of you here.
Kila.
I'm going to flip around and go for the second attack on...
On the other one over here?
Great, go for it.
Help.
Oh, yeah.
That's the one.
I was trying to hit the one that Octus was attacking.
Gotcha, understood, the one that's hacking Octus. Great. In that case, how much damage did you do?
20. 20. That one is still up. So go ahead and take your second attack there.
With advantage, because I'm still flanking.
Okay, I got extra. Okay, 12 plus eight is 20.
20. Go ahead and roll damage. It won't be with sneak attack. It's just with your, and I don't believe you add your dexterity to this one as well with Nick, unless I'm much mistaken.
This is actually, that was plus nice. So it was 29.
The first one was the rapier,
and now I'm attacking with the toy sword.
Okay, gotcha, got it.
And correct.
This is just a 1D6 straight.
So that's four extra points of damage.
It had two hit points left.
That ghoul is destroyed.
Incredible.
Thimble.
You take out the ghoul.
Is that your turn?
I'm going to fly up.
I still get a bonus action, right?
Yes, you do.
Can I listen at one of the doors?
Yeah, give me your perception.
No, actually, none necessary.
You hear the fluttering through the open bars
of the caged falcon in that chamber right there.
Can I get into that room?
Is there bars on that?
Effortless.
You can see it's a barred door.
You can fly right through that.
Yeah, I'm gonna fly through and see what I can do in that room.
You fly through in there and you see a falcon,
absolutely exhausted past the point of reason
that just cannot land lest it die in that cage.
It is manacled around its neck to a chain attached
to the cage that it's in.
Save you. We're going to get you out.
That was your bonus action to get in there.
Shit, the key's probably on the desk out
in the other room, huh?
You're not certain where the keys,
but you do have thieves tools.
I know, I do.
That's probably not bonus action.
That's a full action.
That's probably a full action.
Okay.
Okay.
Moving on from there.
Teor, you hear the shuffling of bodies in the chamber outside of this one
as the members of House de Vinos begin to animate in the previous chamber.
God damn it.
The one that we can't, like, we walked through all the bodies around.
Yes, you walked through this chamber here.
That door, would you, honest question,
would you have shut that door behind you?
Yes, but I don't think we would have barred it.
So these, the undead that are out there
are not capable of fine manipulation.
So they're just going to make attack rolls against the door.
They cannot open it.
They're just going to try to batter it down.
Cool, cool, cool.
We're going to make an athletics check here.
They will roll with advantage.
You've begged it the other way.
They'll roll with advantage.
One other way!
Oops, yeah.
This is an iron, like, definitely adamant.
Unfortunately not.
You need both of these dice to be a 13 or lower.
A 15.
The door smashes open as two zombies thud into the room
with more behind them.
There's no other way out of this room.
This is a closed room.
I'm feeling good.
Maybe there's a secret passageway behind.
It's undeadily.
This is your specialty.
I don't have anything for that.
I don't have any turn stuff.
You don't?
Nope.
That is the end of their turn.
I guess it'll build a bad pallet in my oil.
Smite does it extra D6.
It does.
Sorry, that's good. It's good. Extra D8.
For free.
For free?
There's another door in the room.
You've got to tell the room.
where the other door is, the secret one, where you touch.
There's, it's my, I, there was a universe where six full health PCs were in this room.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Now, um, but I had to go next to you.
You take on first with that?
Sorry.
Um, the.
What's right here, I can't see.
There's a bookcase and then some coffins in the corner.
Does there a bookcase say exit up on the top shelf?
No? Okay. Okay. But there are two green lights over there.
There's two over here as well. And I would love to explore it.
Maybe if you put yourself in the coffin, they'll just think you did their job for them.
There's also this thing. What's this thing called where you like?
Manifesting here in the aviary with the two of you.
Oh. Spectral undead appear. You see two knights of the House of Akari with the Scorpion emblem.
appear undead servants of the house of Taconas.
One appears right in front of you.
Oh, no.
And you see the other appears right in front of you, Thimble.
Both of them looking out the ghouls
as kind of a physical get away from here,
but the true guardians of this chamber appear in this moment.
They are going to take their attacks.
You still have shield up, correct?
I still have shield up.
21.
21.
That is one hit.
Okay.
What would have been,
what would have been 24 necrotic damage
is instead only 12 with your resistance
to necrotic damage.
That's good.
Thimble, two attacks are coming your way.
A Nat one and a nine, does a 14 hit your arm?
No, it doesn't.
Two necrotic hits,
as this spectral sword flashes out towards you.
This ghostly creature out in front of you.
That is going to be Talsidimir Pride.
Did I skip my turn?
Did we? No, your turn was right at the very top.
You got, you went first.
Oh, we haven't even gone through one.
We haven't gone through.
Okay, sorry, I thought we were back around.
Okay, we have three rooms to get through.
Yeah.
That's gonna be, that's gonna be Sid's turn.
Sid is going to rush over here to you.
and is going to, he is going to cast cure light wounds.
And he is going to heal you for seven points of damage.
Not me, brother.
Seven. He looks and says,
oh, we are not in a good spot.
We're not.
No one else I'd rather be with though.
Except maybe the rest of our party.
Octus, that's gonna be you.
Sorry, I was a little early.
Okay, so the one appeared between me,
and my lizard.
Lizard, yes.
So okay, then in that case, seeing it appear ahead of me,
I'm gonna go ahead and what is the, there's no,
so I'm gonna, this gives me, using the spell
would impose disadvantage because I'm in base-to-base contact,
but because I am flanking, this is just a straight roll.
Yeah.
Kind of jumping back from the apparition appearing in front of me,
I reach my hands up and I draw in the air
of this sigil that glows with this kind of sickly green light.
and I bring my hands apart and kind of these like dripping tendrils,
almost like a spider web, but like kind of dripping this sort of poison-y icker before me,
and I speak the word and a bolt of green energy shoots out,
and I'm gonna cast second level ray of sickness.
Okay.
16 to hit?
This, the ghost in front of you?
Yes.
16 hits.
Okay, oh.
Okay, so that is 3D8.
What type of damage?
It is technically poison damage.
Okay. You do 3D8 poison damage to the ghost front of you?
No role necessary. There you go. Fully immune.
Fully immune, great. I still gain the temporary hit points from the spell.
Okay. With my grim harvest ability.
Okay. Which six temporary hits. Okay.
Great. So that is my action. I will use my bonus action.
Yeah. To Misty step to the other side of the room.
Two level spells? Two level spells. Can't do that. Thank you.
So I will then at my turn there, and then my lizard will take its turn.
And it's going to take that bite attack at advantage from flanking.
It's going to move out of threatened range of the ghoul.
Oh, sorry, I thought they didn't realize the ghoul.
No, because Thimble made up the one attack.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Okay, so then it will move a...
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
It'll attack the ghoul.
Okay.
But it's not flanking, so it's just a straight roll.
Straight roll.
Straight roll.
Not dress goals, yeah, yeah, I know.
Necronic damage. I mean, you guys are resisting.
There it is. Okay.
That is a 17 to hit.
17 hits. Go ahead and roll damage.
Great. That is going to be a total of 10 points of necrotic damage.
Exactly. It's hit point where it left. Each ghoul has gone down at the exact number you needed.
A lizard and crushes. You hear the cracking of bone as it sinks its undead jaws into the ghoul's skull, destroying it.
The room is rid of ghouls.
It is going to use its movement to then move into base-to-base contact, flanking.
The ghost.
The ghost.
Great.
Octus, that is your turn.
Teor, we come back to you.
You are side by side with your brother, Sid.
He looks at you.
You are in dire circumstances.
Yeah, you know, it's a little fuckardly in here.
Okay.
Let's do, I want to do that spell,
but it's in action.
I'm gonna do, I have seconded.
I have second level spells now.
Mm-hmm.
I'm in it to win it, baby.
I'm gonna use second-level cure wounds on myself.
Hell yeah.
Which is 48 plus three.
That's a one.
Six.
Seven, seven, twelve.
Oh, 13.
I was asked two ones.
13 plus three is 16 points of healing.
16. Hell yeah.
Take it.
I'll take it.
Great.
Sixteen points of healing.
along with Sid, you've healed quite a tremendous amount of hit points.
Where's your hit point total out right now?
34 points.
Okay. Could be, could be higher.
Almost survive another hit.
Hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm.
But he's bloodied.
Just get another crit and he'll take him out.
Wait, he just gotta hit him instead of healing.
Oh.
We're so supportive of each other.
I know.
I really should have done the other thing.
I don't know if I'm going to survive another hit.
No, it's all good.
All right.
That's my turn. I want to open the Iron Maiden
and find the escape hatch that's built into it.
Oh, absolutely. That has to be why it's there, right?
That's my turn. I'm stay right there because I don't want to invoke
attack of opportunity. Get an attack of opportunity.
This thing, by the way, I have this thing called Find Steed.
Yeah.
Fuck. She's just done that, but that's okay. I thought he had
going to be important.
What's fine T's you do? I've never seen it before.
Right out with me.
What's his casting time?
Oh yeah, it might be a lot.
Shut up, Matt. It's instantaneous.
Okay, Raymond DeVinos is going to,
now that Raymond DeVinos is bloodied,
in the DeVino's fighting style,
to which he is accustomed, at half hit points,
he becomes potentially much more ferocious.
Listen, I don't know the family history here.
I'm gonna roll, I'm gonna roll in front of the board.
On a five or six, his multi-attack goes from,
Two attacks per turn to three.
Okay.
On a five or six, on a one,
any creature in melee combat with him
gets an attack of opportunity.
Okay.
So if I roll a one, it's a daredevil move.
He's doing the same thing that Julian does
of putting himself on the line
that it can get crazy out of here.
I love it.
So if I hit a one on this die,
you and Sid both get a swing.
If it's a five or six, he gets three swings.
Brad, I just want you to know,
I've always believed in you.
I think you can do this.
I made him a much.
monster that you get swings on if he rolls back.
I love it. I have nothing if not fair.
One!
No!
Okay.
This is all gonna happen in front of the board.
Stop laughing! It's not funny!
It's pretty funny.
It's pretty funny.
It's pretty funny.
Oh my god, okay.
The root of funny is fun.
With plus nine to his attack, what does he need to hit your armor class?
You're asking me to do math now as I'm greater?
What is your armor class current?
is 16 in my grieved state.
So he just, he's real higher than a seven.
You said yours is 16?
Yeah, seven will hit.
Seven.
He's gonna go, I'm gonna say that,
because you both just held each other,
he's gonna go for Sid first.
He hits Sid on a,
he hits it on a nine or higher.
Attack number one,
18.
Oh God.
Brennan, lower.
Lower.
Lower that there's too much wrist in it. You just got to do the Sam Riegel, you know drop the poop in the toilet
Go is the official technique title
16 we're all just over here just all flicking ourselves
Gallows me prayer I'm gonna sit myself in a guy
We're adults he's seen in before
It's 30 30. 30 points of damage to Sid sit is still up but on the store
First time
So, Sid is still grappled, though, right?
Yes, he is, that's correct.
So he cannot move.
Oh, no, sorry, Sid broke his grapple on his turn.
Okay, okay, right, right, okay, right.
So he broke his grapple on his turn.
Natural one, natural one, natural one, natural one.
Eight, that is a miss against Sid.
He is going to take another, he's going to take his final attack on Sid.
19.
Sid turns to you,
as the first hit, dodges the second one, looks at you and goes,
the sword through the chest.
Sid falls to the ground.
I catch him as he falls to the ground.
I lay him down gingerly.
You lay him down.
That is Riemann's turn.
He is going to...
He is going to use a bonus action.
What?
Bloody claw attack against you.
21 hits.
There is not tremendously that much damage here.
He lost an arm, didn't he?
Should I roll a 50-50 to see if it's the right,
see if it's the right arms?
He's holding a sword in one.
How can he do a claw attack in the other?
He's technically got four arms right now.
Four arms!
That is going to be, he deals eight slashing damage to you.
I would like to logic plate, sir.
Eight points, copy that.
And I would like a constitution saving throw.
Yeah, I'm not worried about it, Brennan.
Watch.
Six, which is a nine.
One of his flesh arms whips out and grows claws that burst through the flaccid skin.
And slash across your neck and you feel a burning hot venom.
spread into your body, that is going to be Julian's turn.
Oh.
I continue to run.
I think as I like pull the side
and the skeleton's gonna rush by,
I kind of look at my shadow from and be like,
I guess we have to have a conversation later.
But for now, glad to have you at my side.
And I'm gonna continue darting as soon as I have a moment
to try and dart up in the direction of the aviary
to try and meet them.
And this will be the last of
my D4.
Go ahead. As you speak to your shadow there,
give me an insight check with advantage.
And let me know if you beat a 15.
A 19 and a 16.
As you rush in that moment that you turn to speak to your shadow,
you see a burnished condolabra.
You can hear
the cries of, you can hear Octus's magic,
that you recognize the sound of it up in the aviary.
He and Fimble are up there.
That was your mission coming here.
You have your sister's gem.
The shadow suddenly stops, cast behind you.
You see this burnished candelabra sputtering.
You look into the polished brass
and see an image as you saw
in the reflecting pool downstairs.
Your shadow peering as if it was something
like Octus's, you know,
shades or whatever, the things that had made Dame Gaia appear,
and it shows you an image of Teor Locked in combat
with your father.
You are so close to Octus and Thimble
and your goal in being here, and you have your sister's gem.
A monster composed of your father's ruined body
now threatens your companions in the bowels of this place.
Do I have any inclination?
in this vision, where I might stumble upon them.
On that 19 insight, your shadow turns to you
and points with a thumb down an opposing staircase.
It seems only fitting I get to help with him down for the second time.
As you are about to head off, I will say one last thing
that would occur to Julian as you look at the stairs leading down
because you have your sister's soul in a gem.
That needs to make its way out of here.
But Teor is your father's memory and his honor
and the lives of Teor and his brother.
You hear your mother's words.
Don't go die in a hole.
What does Julian do in this moment?
These are the meanest.
I think this episode is the most mean choices
I've ever put in front of you.
I love it.
I love it.
I think he,
as he's like, sitting there, like frozen in the middle of his momentum,
hearing that memory of his mother's voice in the shadow,
kind of tugging his gauntleted hand as kind of thumbing the gem.
And he looks down towards it and thinks of his younger sister,
Albuying those.
And he's going to go turn to the aviary.
They guys twice, Julian, walks by Tara,
and went, good luck.
Keep the jungle, the minds were lone to know.
Thimble, that is your turn.
Oh my God, that was brutal.
That was, I made that choice as painful as it could fucking mean.
No, it was, it was the moment of impulse and the image of that,
and then the, that, that made complete sense to me.
I'm assuming that Mara being next to me does not count as a creature
within five feet of me since she's chained up and...
Correct.
Okay. Then I'm gonna make an attack on the
this ghost with my toy, so uh,
you got it.
19 plus 9.
Yes, that is a hit.
Okay, and so that does.
You don't add your sneak attack, but you add the-
I do add my sneak attack because I got fancy footwork.
Ooh!
Or one of those things.
Oh, that's right.
You're buckling all those swashes.
Yes.
I'm a swash buckler, so I am gonna get sneak attack here
and I also will get the 2D6 in corporeal force damage.
Yes, yes, yes.
Okay.
So that's 1d8.
Plus 4 D, no, how many D6?
5 D6.
Woo!
Do you want to poison it?
It's immune, I think.
I'm looking.
Okay, this is it shit.
Three.
That's shit.
Get out of there.
That's only 15 points with everything
because I rolled so bad on my sneaks.
Oh, wait. No, it was.
Okay.
Yeah.
15 damage.
the first one as the toy sword flashes out.
Any additional actions from you?
I'm gonna hit it again.
Yeah, go ahead and roll your attack.
Okay. The next one is an 18 to hit.
That is a hit.
Okay. So that's just another five points.
But you add the 2D6 force damage.
Oh, I can still do that?
Yep. Okay.
Okay, so that's another four.
Great. Nine damage.
slashing out fireworks, lights,
and you can already see that you have most,
you have rent the majority of this thing's spectral force.
It is bloodied in condition without any actual blood,
but it is still standing in front of you.
Okay.
And that's your action.
Yeah.
We are going to move now.
15.
And let me see.
Only 20 feet of movement, but they are going to use their actions to dash and begin to swarm the chamber.
You have a teleport thingy, right?
A teleport thing, just like a teleporting sort of.
Just a paladin teleport quality? Yeah, I've just been sitting on it.
A palo port, yeah. You see the shambling undead.
Shambling undead of House Davinos and Royce.
Can I ask?
As they came, I wouldn't be able to see it.
I wouldn't be able to see the door anyway, right?
Because it's beyond the growth of the candle.
You hear them shuffling.
They enter the light of your corpse candle.
That would be so terrifying.
You hear them shuffling.
You hear them shuffling.
They surround you, but it takes a,
they only have 20 feet of movement,
so it's a dash and a movement to get in here.
Might have just changed what I'm gonna do.
Sid is bleeding on the floor.
floor beside you. Octus, that is your turn.
You can't sit down, you think it's the power.
Having that in front of me,
now I will use Misty Step to go to the other side of the room.
He has a teleporty thing.
Ten, two,
I get to here.
Yeah. Also, sort of steps, he takes a step back
from the creature and as it lashes out to him
where an attack of opportunity would be,
you can see him fade out in first skin,
musculature bones, steps back into the tenetable reaches
and appears on the other side of the room.
That's cool.
Lands there and goes, Himal, are you okay?
And then fires off a, as that was his bonus action,
now as a, uses a cantrip,
is gonna fire a fire bolt at the-
Hell yeah, give me your attack roll.
That's such a cool, Misty, that.
Mm-hmm.
Okay, that is 14?
14 does hit.
Oh, God, okay.
And that is 2 to 10.
Fire damage.
What a set of rolls.
That is gonna be 11 points of fire damage
as this green flame sort of curls around his arm again
and then fires off the front of his hand,
slams into him.
The fire races forward and as it does so,
slams into that goes looking quite damaged.
That's the end of my turn and then my lizard.
Go ahead and attack the other,
presumably attacking the other ghost.
Yeah, it is attacking the ghost that I just attacked.
I don't think I should get those extra four points of force damage
because the second attack was with the rapier, not with the toys.
Thank you for your honesty.
Good looking at it.
That is a 17 plus 7 to hit.
Should I assume hits?
17 plus 7?
17 hits, yes.
Okay.
Or no, but the toy sword has the nick feature that is the one that I think you want.
That's the extra attack.
Because you only, you don't, you can't switch to another weapon to get that attack.
No, right. So I hit first with that,
and then I have two weapon fighting,
so I still get the second attack.
Got it, got it, got it, okay.
But with two weapon fighting, do I get to add the proficiency
with the?
Yeah, you get it with the second one.
So I do get an additional five.
Well, there you go.
All right. Fantastic. Duff.
Great, net plus one.
Okay, look at that. Net plus one.
12 points of necrotic damage.
12 points of necrotic damage?
Yes.
It, 12 points of necrotic damage to that ghost.
It is unaffected.
Yeah, okay.
Um, uh, it's a figure, but at least it's harrying it.
Yes.
Haring the ghost.
Love hearing.
Teor.
Mm-hmm.
Are you ready?
Let's find out how ready I am.
I do want to point out that I said, Thimble, are you okay?
And you did not respond.
So now I'm losing my mind.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Teor, you are next to act, and General Raymond Davinos acts after you.
Uh-huh. Uh-huh.
Okay.
I will ask the question because I have this thing
I've never seen before called find steed.
Yeah.
And I'm gonna use it until you tell me I can't.
I will summon a steed to myself
and I will summon a celestial dire wolf.
Okay.
That works on my turn.
I'm sorry, not celestial, a fay dire wolf.
Okay.
that lands next to me.
Okay.
And I'm gonna, I guess that's the action
to summon the steed, right? Yes.
So my bonus action would be using
Faye-Step.
The steed teleports along with its rider
to an unoccupied space of your choice
up to 60 feet away from itself.
This, okay.
But it's only if I can get on the steed.
So long.
Can you just find Steve tell, like he'll operate between your legs?
The rules do say an unoccupied space of your choice within rain.
Because that's the whole thing of the zombies closing in, right?
Yeah.
Is that you are now not next to an open space.
An open space.
There would be one maybe like over here,
but I'd have to run through a bunch of chainsaws to get there.
The way I think this is going to work is this.
It is completely doable to cast the spell.
to summon a celestial dire wolf, absolutely doable.
You.
But I think if summoning it would mean I would have to run
through a bunch of opportunity attacks,
I would probably skip it and I would just swing away
at his dad and go down in a blaze.
Go down in a blaze of glory.
Fucking kick up the wall and backflip over my dad.
Yeah, yeah.
I would just probably swing on the big guy.
What I will say is this.
I want to play this as fair as we possibly can,
totally doable to summon the steed in an unoccupied space.
You are hemmed in from all sides,
so it's shove attacks and all that other shit to get out of there.
You could also make like a heroic athletics check
to like leap over zombies and distorted other things,
but that's attacks of opportunity.
I think I would do the shove-a-chak
and maybe I would throw in as a part of the ante
the last two
failures marked
from the desperate measures sheet
because I can't think of a better time to use it.
I got two left.
You got two left?
What are the two ones?
Your taggerald just hit
instead each damage died deals
damage equal to its highest number.
Okay.
Or give a plus five bonus
to a D20 test you just failed
potentially turning it into a success.
So what we could do here,
but here's the issue is, this is an action.
So if you're going to summon the steed,
you don't have any attacks left to do any shoving.
It's just the athletics to, like,
leap through these enemies.
So we can action summon the steed.
You have to give me the athletics
to see if you can clear it,
and even if you do clear it,
then it's the attacks of opportunity resolving.
I think, I think,
I think even if I do clear it,
that attacks of opportunity will be enough to take me down.
So I think I will just swing on your pops
with this axe at fifth level,
getting two swings this time.
Let's go.
I'll just go for it.
You could potentially destroy him here.
Could.
It is possible to.
So I will take the first attack against him.
First attack.
Here we go.
That is a 19 to hit.
19 hits.
19 hits. Okay.
I will say,
do I want to use the divine smite if I don't hit him the second time?
I'm gonna use it now.
Now.
12, 8 plus.
I know if I crit, but I don't know if I'll hit the second time.
Yeah, do you want to use the divine smite on this non-critical attack?
I think so, because if I don't miss, then it's...
No guarantee you're going to crit.
Right.
If you're going to spend those two points, it means you just do max damage.
if you want to.
Oh, that's true.
On this one?
Yeah.
Yeah, let's do that.
So.
Oh, if your attack roll just hit,
don't roll the attacks damage dice.
Instead, each damage died deals damage equal
to its highest number.
Right, so it would be 12 plus, yeah,
so I'll do the desperate measures to failures mark.
All three.
All three are done.
They're all marked done.
Go!
Go!
You're all marked.
Yeah, 100%.
So that's eight plus six.
I love it.
It's 14.
and then the 3D8 will be the full D8 of the divine smite.
24.
24.
So that'll be third.
It's a second level, but it's the same thing.
It's 3D8.
3D8, but because it's undead, it would be 4D8, correct?
No, it's 3D8 because it's undead.
Because it would be 2D8 normally.
At first level.
Oh, at first level, the second level, oh, it would be 4D8.
It would be 48.
I'm so sorry.
So it's 4, so it's 12, it's 12 plus,
12 plus 32.
It'd be 14 plus 32.
14 plus 32 is 46?
46.
On the first attack.
On the first hit.
General Raymond DeVinos is at death's door.
He is at death's fucking door right now.
I mean, I just want to be very clear that you could rid the world of a, of a supreme,
evil. You're still in a room. I just want to set our expectations that there are a bunch of
zombies here and it's very bad. It can still go very bad. But what do you add to your attack roll?
My attack rolls, I add. No, those are spells. Stop touching spells. I'm plus nine to hit.
I'm going to give you his armor class. His armor class is 17. So you need an eight or higher on the die.
you do, it is almost a certainty that you will succeed. Eight or higher on the die.
One. I got a morrish of this.
Yeah. In the back of his mind, you hear
Wukita.
Oh no.
What is that?
That's a four.
It's a four.
Is there any way there's a-
That could be an advantage.
That's unbelievable.
Okay. I'm gonna sit back down now. That's a four on the
the dying. Oh shit. A bonus actions might have your, you have your movement, but you don't have
the ability to disengage. If you want to make a leap for it and take the attacks of opportunity,
but you also don't have a steed waiting for you. So people will close with you if you try to
with my movement, I will reach up and I'll grab the rib cage of Papa de Vinos and I'll pull
him in and I'll reach in and I'll pull out the banner of the torn banner.
The torn banner.
And say, I know someone that is looking for you.
It is General Raymond Devinos' turn.
Is he gonna try to do his thing?
He's gonna try to do his thing.
If he rolls in that one, you get an immediate attack of opportunity.
Oh, come, oh my God.
If he rolls, if this is a one, if this is a one, and you get another chance.
Come on, come on.
Oh.
Brutal.
Your armor class is 16.
He needs seven or hires to hit.
Just two attacks, though?
Just two attacks.
Six or lower.
Six or lower.
Out's all day.
Six!
Miss!
Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay.
Six plus nine is 15.
I can't do this much longer, man.
The stuff happened under this table, I need a diaper soon.
If this is a six or lower, he misses both of his attacks.
And he's got almost no hip-pillar.
No hit points left.
Come on.
Oh, 12.
Hope given so hastily taken away.
Somewhere, Julian is holding that shield glyph and going,
I wonder if I need to use this today.
I'm so mad if I take the wrong person.
10 slashing damage.
Okay.
And the necrotic is.
I expected you to hit the home.
I only, that was 10.
I only rolled a two and a one, so that's six.
So six necrotic.
damage. Still up. Still up. Okay. Still up.
Surrounded by zombies. Surrounded by zombies.
Still up. Still up. Still up.
Those were very bad damage rolls. How many hit points you have?
Ten. Ten. Okay. Julian, you surge into the aviary.
You are here. You are present. Next to a ghost. Next to a ghost.
There's a ghost? Yeah. You have flanking. Is the ghost the bad guy?
Yeah!
Give me a tie.
As you go up the stairs, you see the doors,
you see the ghost, the lizard up there.
Racing forward as fast as you can,
you see holding that gem.
The gem, a light, boom,
and your gauntleted hand as you stow it away.
You are filled, you have just killed Corral Taconas.
Your second, Tacitus is dead.
You approach this ghost, and you see
through these slitted windows, the sky of Dolmachyar.
You are about to get out of this place
with your sister's gemstone
and having killed another Taconas.
As you arrive here in this battle,
there is Mara the wing who has all the answers.
Julian, go ahead and give me your attack rolls
for this ghost and do so with advantage.
Yeah, you're flanking with my lizard.
All right, first attack is going to be 15.
15 is a hit, and I will remind you
that you do have another attack as you level up to level five.
Oh, you did.
Oh, you already did.
I get a bonus action.
Oh, you get a bonus action. Great, do that.
I'm gonna be fourth level fighter.
Oh, first level fighter, gotcha, gotcha, cool.
That's okay. Yeah, you got it.
All right, so that first attack will come in
with the rapier.
Cool. Against that, that'll be, ooh, seven plus four
for 11 points of damage on the first strike.
Incredible.
And then I'm gonna go ahead and bonus action
with the gym in my gauntleted hand.
I'm gonna go ahead and swing the demi-gontland.
Since I did hit it with the rapier,
which says have the vex ability,
My next attack on it is going to have advantage on it anyway,
which I would have because it's that.
Also, oh, actually because it would be
the first tag was advantage, I would have sneak attack on that,
which is an additional six damage to that.
Additional six damage, okay, great.
Second attack, it's gonna be action 19.
Yeah, that definitely hits.
Sorry, you said six extra damage to it?
Correct. Great.
And then this bonus action attack is gonna be
five points of damage.
Great.
How's the ghost looking?
Another five points after that, you said.
Ghost is a lot.
looking dismayed but not bloodied.
Action search. I'm gonna go in front of a strike.
Here we go. Dismayed. It's like, I don't like that.
Spooky sad phase on.
Stop doing that.
Stop doing that.
17. 17. And you're rolling with advantage, right?
Correct. 17 hits.
I'm gonna savage attacker roll that again.
That's better. Another 11 points of piercing damage from the rapier.
They look is fucked up. Great. Okay.
What's going on?
We found her.
Yes, she's in another room with Thimbo,
but I think there's something else in there.
I haven't heard from Fimble.
Fimble, that is your turn.
I'm okay.
I've heard from Vindval.
Okay, I am going to,
Holy Taylor.
He went to find the gnomes.
Okay, wait, I gotta look at this thing.
Okay, so what I'm gonna do
is I'm gonna hit first with the rapier.
Okay.
This time.
Yep.
It's only 10.
10 is a miss.
Fuck, I'm gonna just go over the fucking other one.
Okay, here we go.
That is a 17.
17 hits.
Thank God, so I'll just dump everything in this one.
Oh, that's good.
That's all much better.
11, 14, 18, 19, 26 plus 6.
26 plus 6 damage.
Uh-huh.
How do you want to do this?
Fireworks, I'll slice it across the neck
and fireworks are gonna like explode
through all of its little tingly things,
so it's gonna look like pink and purple
and flashy and stuff as it goes,
this ghost explodes into confetti and fireworks
in all directions and you have a bonus action.
Oh no, yes, no, you don't have a bonus action anymore,
sorry. No, I do.
Does that second attack take up your bonus action or no?
No, I don't think so it's part of the attack.
Yeah, the whatever.
Yeah.
So you do have a bonus action.
bonus action left if you wish to use it.
Um, but I can't pick a log with a bonus action.
I'll allow you to pick a lock with bonus action.
I'm gonna try to pick the lock.
Go for it.
Give me a thieves tool check.
Wow.
What is the, what do I add to a dexterity?
Proficiency plus dex bonus.
Um, okay.
Uh, 21.
21 picks it.
First, the lock of the cage opens,
and the Falcon just flaps out into your,
into your arms and collapses,
choking itself on the ground,
letting itself just be choked
just to let its body rest on the ground,
just as it flutters to your feet.
There's one more lock on its collar,
affixing it there.
But it's out of the cage.
That is your turn.
It's big as you, though.
It just landed on you.
Well, technically it landed below me
because I'm flying.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, that's valid.
Okay.
Ferngo.
Four and go.
Four attacks with it.
advantage from zombies are coming in.
Oh, God.
Your armor class is 16, they hit on a 13 or higher.
Yep.
17 is a hit.
The Nat, the Nat 20.
There's no escaping this.
And a 15.
They all hit.
They all hit.
They all hit.
At least we can't.
No, I can't throw.
At least you'll just die immediately.
We'll roll the crit first.
All right.
Five damage.
Five left.
If these are all ones.
Four.
One left.
The bottom of Obermiss Manor.
Image of this monstrosity facing you in this buttering corpse light,
your brother, who you traveled across vast reaches
to save only yesterday.
torn banner in its scroll case placed into the ribs
of Raymond de Vinos.
Wooden lion emblem at your side.
Your entire life, you walked within and beside a light
beyond explanation.
And here in the dark light may extinguish.
And as it does, all hope of answering
those questions vanishes into shadow along with it.
In this horrid place, you watch as a doom.
You have avoided so many times countless battlefields
of the Falconer's Rebellion.
You should have died in the dungeons of Castle Delani.
You should have died in Sloke.
You should have died in the war.
Whatever comes next, at least your brother
won't have to go there alone.
What is Teor's experience of this final moment?
Injuries not anything new to him.
It was in some ways always probably gonna end like this.
I think in those final moments,
the pain gives way to a sense of numbness
and then calm and here in the dark.
But so much has been obscured,
Thayer looks over and he sees his brother,
and he reaches his paw out for his
and notices that it's not as dark as I remember it being.
It's actually quite...
Each of the shambling figures, the final blow comes.
But somewhere in the dark, something is glowing.
As Tairor's spirit prepares
to cross over to the true to Nebel reaches.
Perhaps to walk the old path,
perhaps to linger there with his brother.
Is there any thought given to any yet
who remain in the world of waking?
Or is Teor's vision planted firmly towards the great beyond?
He thinks fondly of fimbled
and hopes that she will find peace
he thinks of Catagan
and hopes that he will find resolve
and strangely
he thinks of Sir Julian
with the most
unusual thought that perhaps he is a far better man
and even he knows
and he welcomes the next adventure
collapsing to the floor beside your brother
the last leader
of the torn banner collapses.
That object lost here in darkness.
Einfausen axe clatters to the ground.
Embracers of oak and birch soaked with your blood.
As you think of thimble,
Cadigan and Julian,
the irises of your eyes closing in.
The lion head emblem rolls away from you.
Might be some small moat of light left in.
as you look within those eyes,
of those three that you have mentioned,
seeing the light reflected in the lion's eyes,
which of those three are the last that your mind wanders to,
seeing the emblem glow?
It is actually none of those three,
but Wakander, a man who has much in front of him
and shares the same light as the lion.
As light envelops the emblem,
it and it alone vanishes.
Teor's magic whisks it away from this place
to appear at a later moment at Wiccander's side
along with a character ability of your choosing,
which will be granted as a death boon to Wiccander Halovar.
We'll speak more in private later.
Teor prides.
I'm going to take no shit to you today.
Hindsight.
Tayor has fallen.
They should have summoned the steed so much.
Travis Willingham, everybody.
We may be sending some after you very shortly.
So we will continue in initiative order.
Please.
We will continue an initiative order here.
I need, I need wisdom-saving throws from your summon.
I would have if you'd given me a boo.
Your wisdom saving throws from Octus,
his summon, and from Julian.
What do we get here?
Natural two, minus one for a dirty one.
Incredible.
Wait, what is this? What are we rolling?
What are you doing?
Just these ones over here.
Myself, we have a 19, and my summon is a 16.
Okay.
Julian, you take 17 points of psychic damage
as the ghost before you unleashes a horrific visage
and howls at the top of its undead lungs.
Moving forward from there,
howling at the top of its lungs,
you sustain that psychic damage,
and that is the end of its turn.
We return to Octus at the top.
Just let me double check damage on something.
Okay, yeah.
Yeah, seeing that scream, understanding.
Julian, you are also frightened.
Cool.
I was before I came here, but yeah.
Seeing the frightened effect doubly so then, I will,
when I dismissed Dame Saramai, the sword stays.
Yes, you still have.
I still have the sword.
It is sheathed, not something Octus is used to being able
to carry, it's big, it's cumbersome on him,
but he has it kind of strapped across his back.
and he sees Julian there
with his sword and doing what he does
and has watched Julian a lot
and knows he's not a fighter, knows he doesn't
and have the same footwork, know what he can do.
He kind of touches the edge,
the hilt of the Saramai blade,
and it feels heavy, and he gets an idea.
He reaches his hand out,
and a, from the Saramai blade,
this kind of oeasterny blade,
this kind of oily smoke travels down his arm.
And he says, sword.
And it goes, and forms this sword of shadow in his hand.
And he rushes forward to stab at the ghost.
Hell yeah.
Using psychic damage.
Let's do it, here we go.
Now after flanking.
Oh, Flakening! Oh, wait, I rolled the natural one.
Flanking.
Better.
That is 16 to hit.
16 is a hit. Go ahead and roll damage.
And that is 2D8 psychic damage.
It's so dark in there.
I know.
I'm trying to find dice since it's so dark.
There we go.
That is 11 points of psychic damage.
11 points of psychic damage.
11 points of psychic damage.
You reach
out with this blade, connect, and sever the Specter's head.
It is destroyed.
You all exit initiative.
Amazing.
Thank you for the lessons.
As you go to get up quick.
Mara's in here.
Okay.
Run into the other room.
Is it unlocked?
The cage is unlocked.
You still got the manacles around here.
You're sorry, you flew through the bars.
I flew through the bars of that door.
I go to the door.
Yeah, you go to the door.
You look inside, go ahead and give me another thief
Jewel check.
I say, Teor's in trouble.
What?
I don't know where he is, and he goes down below, but he's,
last I saw he was, um, he was tussling with,
no, the shadow of my father.
I'm gonna go ahead and use my last hit dice
as part of when I ride the thresholds to gain two temporary hit points.
Cool.
Oh, you have to go get him.
I have to go help him.
Wait, what?
What happened to Teor?
He's in trouble.
Uh, you go ahead and give me another, uh, uh, a lot of you go ahead and give me another, uh, uh,
tools proficiency check here.
I'm trying to open, is it locked?
Oh, the door?
Yeah.
Yes, the door is locked.
Do you know how to open this?
I kick it.
Give me athletics check.
15. 15 doesn't do it.
That's gonna be a 13 plus 16.
16. Boom, you kick the door open.
You guys rush into this next space here
and see a thin chain around this Falcon's neck.
With the shadow blade still in my hand.
Just trying to cut through it.
Go ahead, give me an attack roll?
That is a 12.
12, okay.
12 is enough to hit, go ahead and roll damage.
Can I make it, I give it a headache?
Seven points of psychic damage.
Psychic damage sort of pings,
like you deal psychic damage to an inanimate object
and it doesn't appear.
Look, if there's, there might be a key out on the desk.
Wait, what'd you say about Taylor?
Taylor was somewhere down below
being surrounded by many nasty things.
Why are you down below?
I don't know.
20?
20 pops it open.
She's.
The Falcon collapses immediately unconscious.
Stable but unconscious.
Do you, can you heal her?
Either of you?
I stab things, but don't really much of a heal.
I can't heal her.
You hear shouting and disorder from down below.
The howl of the undead monster has alert
the...
We cannot stay.
We cannot stay. We cannot sit.
There's no... We know people there.
You don't know where he is.
You just know he's down. It's huge down there.
If you don't know where, then.
I don't know where he went. I told him to go off the stairs.
That was his choice.
What did you see? What? How do you know he even...
I had a vision.
It may have been false, but...
I saw him...
of him somewhere in some distant bowers of the abode
and fighting the remnants of my father.
Her exhaustion is so great that there's no possible.
Pick her up!
Oh, sorry, sorry.
I'll go over and pick up the falcon.
You go pick up the falcon.
You look out through the window slits
and see that you are high up,
sort of off to the side of Obermiss Manor
through these thin window slits here.
What does it you do?
I'm gonna fly out the window and see if there's any
I can see that will help them get down.
Any ledges, anything that they can.
You fly out the windows.
Go ahead and give me investigation or perception.
Are these windows big enough for us to fit out of?
Yes, these windows are big enough for you to fit out of.
11.
Searching around, you don't see anything
as you are searching throughout this place.
It's just a flat wall.
Are we leaving you?
Are we leaving him?
If he didn't find this way out,
it's better than all four of us dying here.
Five, including his brother.
I don't know him.
We have to get out of here.
We have to leave.
Okay.
You remember the tower?
Nearby, you guys hear of thunder,
and you guys hear something thud into the tower roof
right above you. You're at the very top of the aviary.
Shit.
Come out of the window.
Jump out the window.
And I go running towards the window.
You can't fly?
Optus!
We did this once before.
All right.
What the fuck are you doing?
I jump out the window and we leap out.
You, okay, you guys leap, go ahead and give me a group acrobatics or athletics check.
You're holding Mara.
I know, I can do this with one hand. It's fine.
All right, that's, um, that is a dirty 20 for me.
Acrobatics.
Okay.
It's gonna be 14. 14. We'll take the dirty 20.
On that group check, you guys get to the window. You're holding Mara.
You leap out into air just clearing the outer wall of Obermiss Manor.
As we fall and we're getting closer to the ground, I reach in, with the other hand, reach into my coat and pull out.
Where the fuck is it?
You're searching for it while you're falling.
I didn't even remember the fucking component.
Yeah, and now we're dead.
I pull it a small feather.
It's just a feather.
I'm so stressed.
And I put it in my mouth again, I chew it up,
and then I spit spectral feathers out again
into myself and into Julian, and we,
feather fall, thimble.
You're alone here.
Teor is somewhere in the bowels of this place.
Mara and your companions go out,
and you see them land on the other side
of the wall of Obermiss Manor.
I look upy.
Look for Tayor.
Tell me that now.
Go, get her to safety.
I'll be out in a minute.
You stay or die.
I'm really sneaky.
All right, Fed Play.
I'd like you to give me an investigation check
and a stealth check.
Okay, stealth, 22.
Investigation.
Nate.
Little fairy, you fly into the dark, and we'll find out what happens to you when we come back
to this table.
Octus, Julian, I assume having rested Mara and your sister's gem, you're off.
Let's bring Team Spy back in here real quick.
No!
I dare you.
Moving from the other, we're really good.
Moving from the other.
events at Obermus Manor, a carriage with a manacled Cadigan and Wolfrick, tyranny, holding
Boler in probably a satchel at her side or on her effects. Back at the Via Aurora,
Wicandr is speaking with Primus Taconas and Yonessa Hale-Ovar, but we are going to resolve the
Taylor Shop first. Arriving at the Mercconaut Coutouturee late at night, you see the dim glow of some
burning embers and some braziers, the thick aroma of incense as the doors open, and the demons
begin to drag Cadigan and Wolfrick into the shop. And Minnie turns to you, Tyranny, and says,
I will explain your desire to the courtier's inside. I actually would prefer to have a word. I owe them an
apology. Very well. You see that as the demons enter,
Our delightful, Rulius and Calastro-Mirconod appear.
Walking out, you see that Rulius says,
Leda to be calling and I...
Well, hello again.
Hello, Rulius and Calastrod.
Clastro.
Calastro.
My brother's name.
I want you to see you myself.
Yes, we had a bit of a rude surprise.
It turns out last time you were here,
you were not supposed to collect.
A lapse of judgment on my part.
You see, I was following our Lord Wickander, my charge.
He made a choice, and I chose to back him up,
but what I should have done and seen the big picture,
and for that I am so sorry,
we have a new delivery for you,
but first, I believe a remediation is order, in order,
and I have a gift for you.
take out Buller's mask.
You see, they look and say,
is that?
Dorator's mask?
It is.
I was told to give it to you.
I hope that this can show my deepest apologies,
and I've heard that it's quite amazing on.
I do hope you try it.
You see, Rulius takes it and goes,
You have more than made up.
Did you put an end to that wicked little man's life?
I wish I could say that it was me.
I just happened to be in the right place at the right time,
and I knew who to get it to.
A serendipity.
Once you put it on, I have a question.
I know that really I'm here to make amends,
but, um,
This person that's in my captive, oh.
Well, business first, yes, and pleasure later.
You see, it turns over to enmity,
and you see Enmidi says,
this one here is for you to get to work on.
And you see, Han's small white velvet bag of gold.
Enmitty says,
I was hoping some accommodation might be made for my sister Tyranny.
She wishes to cause suffering to this man
before you get to work.
on him. You see that Colastra says, for the gift of a beautiful mask, I think we can allow a demon some joy, can't we?
You see that enmity turns and says, do you wish for us to remain with you here, sister?
Thank you, sister. I really appreciate it. I think what would be best is to go inform Yonessa
that the deed is done, and she will be so, so, so proud. In the wafting,
incense here. Go ahead and give me persuasion with advantage.
Come on. Come on, Dally. Okay.
Well, two 14s.
Those are good. Plus eight.
22. And Middy turns to you and says,
Have your way with this filthy commoner.
And then we shall see you at the via Aurora.
Emidy holds your chin in her hand and says
that you come to your senses,
which is why the Lord Wicander has returned,
that you did not wish to see him break
when he saw the truth.
But all good things come after we break.
Come, sisters.
You see cruelty sort of narrows her eyes looking at you.
I just don't fucking know.
And he's...
I'm here with you.
Are you?
Because I, you see Agony face plants and goes,
My teeth broke.
And you see, cruelty says, you are so stupid.
And Minnie says, now, we must return to the V-Arror at once.
And you see that cruelty picks up agony,
sneers at you, and drags agony out of the shop.
You see Rulius and Calastro drag Wolfrick and Cadigan
into the back room.
this incense creates a disadvantage on wisdom-saving throws in the entire space.
Tyranny, you see that one of the brothers, you see that Rulius, who you handed the mask to, is still holding it,
but now is sort of drooling over Cadigan here.
Looks off and says, well, friend, what brought you onto the wrong side of the Kand?
Dessent Creed. I don't know what the fuck's going on.
Is tyranny in our presence?
Yeah.
Tyranny?
Because from what I understand the chain of events that have occurred,
I do not know anyone's intentions at this point.
All I know that I was bagged and tagged by your sisters.
Yeah, I have no idea what's happening.
You see that Rulius is sort of like batting the mask back and forth in his hands.
and just goes, we are going to secure the perimeter.
But my lady, you see the mask again, just flopping around.
He goes, have at him, do your worst.
I actually would love to see the aspirants at work.
Has he noticed the writing inside of the mouse?
It looks like he's very close to, but it's just, it's just.
Yeah.
It's just.
I just, I just, I know.
I do appreciate this.
This is just for me.
this one, he caused a lot of grief
to the Lord Wigander, and we can't have that.
What is that? I'm so sorry.
Give me a deception check.
He's so kind.
Put all that. Put all that.
Put all that.
Put all that.
What's all that.
That's cocked?
All right, it's cocked.
That's super cocked.
Bad form.
I mean he is.
Luck?
Oh, with advantage?
Disadvantage.
Was that? With advantage?
That was straight, but do you-
It was straight?
That was straight.
Do you want to fuck with the roll?
Fog with the roll?
You have luck left, I believe.
I've got luck left, I've got two left.
Yeah.
Let's go.
14 plus what was it?
Deception.
Deception is eight.
It is eight.
Worth burning a luck though?
14 is eight.
22.
You see he says,
it says, what is what?
What?
Aller, infinitesimally small.
We're gonna roll a wisdom save,
which because of how they set up their shop
because they think they're the one slinging spells
around here is roll to disadvantage.
If one of these is a 13 or lower,
it's on.
Roll twice.
10.
No need for a second roll.
You see Calastro,
says, yes, do you want to keep him manacled up?
We can splay him out, we can take his skin off.
I'm just interested in seeing your studies here.
I'm interested in seeing how you apply yourself.
Thank you so much.
As is.
He says, as is.
Delightful.
What are we going to do to do to him?
Oh, do you want us to take care of the dog?
Brother.
Of the dog, I wanted to watch.
Oh, you are a demon.
Ah!
Brother, should we get the wine out?
Boler, you are looking at,
you are looking at Calastro-Mercanod
who just called you brother.
And I'm gonna need everybody here to roll in this.
I'll roll from roll.
Come on, Sam.
Sam, you rolled two.
Here we go, okay.
I got a one.
I think I'm going later in the initiative.
I got a three.
I got a one.
Okay.
Oh.
Here we go.
You've already eliminated one of the opponents.
Okay.
What did we get Cadigan?
I got seven.
Seven.
What did we get tyranny?
Three.
Three.
And we got a one for Belair?
I got three.
Three as well.
Okay.
Got it, got it.
Okay.
Okay.
Yes, you see that Calastra looks at you and goes,
brother, should we get out the good wine?
Yes.
I rather think we should.
Give me deception.
I will say I also, I'm going to walk up as I say this,
and I'm just going to, I mean, I, God, it's, yeah,
let's see how this goes.
Give you a deception roll.
Give you a deception roll.
The number we're trying to beat here is just an 11.
These guys don't have great insight.
Yeah, that's 19.
19.
Okay, amazing. I'm gonna get the battle set out.
Here we go.
Oh my god. Wait, what?
We just.
Battle?
I'm gonna do desperate measures.
By the way, guys, check out the Critical Role Shops
for all the merch.
All the merch.
All the merch, okay.
I'm trying to remember who was I talking to in the bar?
Was it, was it, was it, which were the brothers was it?
You were talking to both of them.
Okay.
You were absolutely.
They're both a decent build, if I recall.
Yes, absolutely.
Tyranny, you are here as well.
Boler has just taken over Rulius Mercinod's body.
And then we have our other friend.
Here is Calastro Merconad right here.
Having been successfully bedeviled,
but specifically deceived,
Calastro is going to
hit
Cadigan withhold person, believing that he's preparing
Cadigan for your administration.
Give me a wisdom save.
I'll say.
Give me a wisdom save with disadvantage here.
Cool. Good. Good. The worst of those was four.
Okay, with a four.
He hits you with the hold person here.
That is going to be Boleran tyranny.
You act on the same initiative in this moment as he goes,
ha ha ha, the good wine indeed.
And see he stroll, you guys see that he actually begins to,
he hits Cadigan with the whole person
and begins to stroll to the back of the shop to get wine.
Right.
Yeah.
My iPad just died.
Oh no.
Oh, good, good, good, good, good.
Good, good, good.
You didn't get that long.
I begin following him to the wine.
Great, brother.
Yes, brother.
I am so happy that you're here,
and I love you so very, very much.
It's so nice to have someone to share a life with,
a sibling, someone who's been there.
I just want you to know how sorry I am.
and I slowly walk towards him.
I'm sorry for everything you're about to feel
and everything that you're about to hear.
And I cast dissonant whispers.
Hell yeah, what's the save he makes there?
Wisdom 14.
That is a failure.
Okay, you take 3D6 psychic damage.
3D6 psychic damage.
Okay, go ahead and roll it.
Uh, two, four, that's six points of damage.
And you must immediately use its reaction
if a bell would do as far away from me as it can
using the safest route.
He sprints back into this changing room over here.
It goes, ah! No!
I'm here for that suit I wanted.
He fails concentration, Kattigan.
You are out of hold person.
And my bonus side, my sword is out,
and I am just walking like a fucking demon.
No! Brother!
And Cadigan is your turn.
Oh my God.
Still shackled?
Still shackled?
Wait, am I?
This is happening?
We happen simultaneously.
You have it simultaneously.
Yes.
Oh, yeah.
Okay.
I go and I undo your shackles.
You have the keys.
You bang.
Spring him.
Cattigan, you are unshackled.
Do you still think a demon can redeem herself?
Insight check?
Is that possible on what you just said to me?
Insight check away, baby.
Is that work?
Give an insight check.
Yeah.
I don't know.
I don't trust her right now.
Give it with advantage.
Okay.
Oh, okay, good. Natural 20 on the second one.
Oh, sorry.
Yeah, good, good.
Sorry.
On a natural 20, you got a natural 20?
I did, on the second one.
Cattigan, as you look to insight her,
Tyranny, you look into Cattigan's eyes
and you see blood gushing out of tyranny's eyes.
You feel no pain at all.
As you see the entire story of Cattigan's life with Marianna,
You see the image he saw at the lakeside.
You see Primus Taconas killing his wife and daughter.
And Tyranny, you are a demon of suffering,
crafted by the shadow of suffering, suffering,
Sharavi.
There is no greater suffering than losing what Cadigan has lost.
And Cadigan, you see that reflected in Tyranny's eyes.
You understand on a nat-twey,
20 insight, tyranny's perspective,
that she is fundamentally warped,
that she's an archetype and not a person,
as she once said to you.
You made the knife in her hand,
this knife that has just cleaved through your bonds
as she opened your shackles.
You look at her and know that she's absolutely
right that she is a demon. She's the demonest demon, whoever demoned. There is nothing
wrong with her. That knife you made for her, something within her understands your pain.
There is something in her older than her body, older than her name, older than this form
that she has been given that is here in this world because she knows
what is rending you apart inside.
And she is here to protect you.
She is here to save that which can be saved.
And if it cannot be saved, she is here to punish those that destroy it.
Do I deserve it?
Do you?
Remains to be seen.
I think we're in a good spot.
I'm very angry.
You should be.
Where did they go?
You see Boler is advancing on the other twin
that is in this back room right there?
Oh, you know that that other one is Belair, right?
One of them is Belair.
He's on our side.
The mask one, right?
Yeah.
Okay, I missed it.
There's four extra points of damage on my door.
Okay, great, thank you.
Thank you.
I think in that space on that Nat 20 inside,
which is so crazy when she's holding the knife you made for her,
You just feel, as that rage builds in you,
a visible demonic energy pours out of tyranny,
the blood falling down, the tear lines of her face,
and you can see snarling demonic faces made of blood
and smoke trailing on the incense,
and know for a fact that not everything born
of demon world is wrong.
something good has come of the pit
because the rage you feel right now is right.
Yeah.
I'm gonna take off toward my attacker.
Cadigan, you burst into the other room.
You are, as you do so,
you burst into the other room.
And in this moment, I think,
Bollaire, the glass appears at you,
the distant it whispers, you look around,
and see Cattigan surge past you.
And Cattigan, go ahead.
You are fifth level.
Go ahead and give me whatever attacks you want,
whatever you're doing.
Yeah, I'm going to use my 200 attack with the club,
not the blade, because it's meaner.
Aiming for the back of the head.
That's a 19 plus 7, 26.
26 is a hit, my friend.
Sweet.
That is a 7 damage plus 4 for 11.
And then because you just made me level 5,
I'll take my second attack with my time.
What you just got, here we go, baby.
I appreciate it.
That is another 19-426 again.
Hell, yes.
That's not as high, though.
It's a seven, so 18 total damage.
18 total damage, Kattegan, how do you want to do this?
Winning fights is so easy.
Why can't?
Yeah, it's just a nonstop, full unsheath
at full speed, double-fisted, no technique,
back of the head, club to the,
to the bottom of the dome.
The first attack rips his stupid fucking wig
off his head in a cloud of blood.
The back of his skull is made of glass or crystal
and shows that he has a burning fire
in the center of his skull.
And the second hit is lights out,
like a thick fucking light bulb cracking.
Who cares what weird fucking thing this guy is?
Anything hit in the head hard enough will die.
And this guy, boom, lights out, eyes,
cross, blood shoots out of the nostrils,
and he hits the deck dead as a doorknale.
Who was that?
We're here?
Cadigan, you're dead, okay?
As far, no, no, no.
As far as the candescent creed is concerned,
you have been killed.
You cannot be seen around the halo of ours.
Can we try something?
I'm so curious.
The brother, Ruliel?
I only wrote half of his name now.
Oh, Rulius.
So Calastro is destroyed.
Oh no, you're Rulius.
Yes.
Okay, Calastro, can we string them up and see what if,
does he have a soul?
So that actually is quite important.
Boler.
Yes, I, please, I'm very excited.
You have been after these two
for a long, long time.
time. As you feel Rulius screaming inside your mind. Oh, I would I would love to have a brief
conversation if that's if that's okay. Yes, absolutely. As everything is going down. Yeah.
Rulius finds himself in a theater in a very small theater that is very dark. The stage is
lit. There's a play being performed. He's not on stage. He is sort of
wandering through the seats of the audience
where I am sitting watching this two-man play.
We're working.
I begin speaking the pan of mine
for these two characters who are performing,
and they're wearing paper-shaped masks,
and they're dressed very gently and simply,
and the stage is very, very basic.
Obviously, this is a rehearsal.
I am not wearing my hair.
I am just wearing a simple peasant shirt
and gloves, but there is no body.
I'm just the head, the mask hovering where there should be one.
There is no arm where that hands are.
And as I speak, my voice comes out of these two characters
as I am slowly directing it.
When we were children before we would go to sleep,
what would our fathers say to us every night?
A story, a poem, or a tale of what tomorrow would bring.
When dark night's silence falls in hope,
Seems gone. A deeper roar still carries on.
It shakes the stars. It splits the night sky.
It lives in me and will not die.
I cannot help but believe. How did you find me?
You're half a world away.
I'm so very clever, sister.
And they embrace.
It's all wrong.
And it explodes in paper.
And I have just one dream.
I want one wish.
I want one thing to be more.
mine, taken away over and over. I finally have peace. What an unexpected surprise to see you here.
Do you love your brother? Do you love your brother, you simple, idiot?
Thank the lords of men. Enjoy. And I turn on his vision so he can watch what the fuck
happens.
Inside yourself, you hear as Calastro goes down, Boulare.
Roll him back in and I'm going to leave him there for now,
and I'll enjoy the sound of his fucking whatever.
I've had a day.
As Calastro falls, Belair, what a day you have had.
You look in this private room and see the staircase going down
to somewhere gleaming red and infernal.
Well, what's the plan?
Well, I want to see what these scissors do.
I have a sneaking suspicion that they're cutting up souls and sending them to my dad.
And if this guy has a soul, maybe we could do it to him.
I don't have the, I don't know if that's like something inherent that I can.
I have a sneaking suspicion he has a soul.
Can we find out?
The staircase?
Does he?
What would happen if we tear his soul?
I'm just saying this out loud to see how much.
louder the screams. Screams get very loud.
Oh, I'm pretty sure he does.
Let's take him downstairs.
Okay, Cadigan, you don't have to stay for this.
Get the, if you, I mean, do what you want,
but I feel like we're gonna be in a lot more trouble.
I kind of think it's a one-to-one thing.
Come with me, friend. I've heard so much about you.
Tell me what to do.
Okay.
Where's my friend?
Cattigan, Wolfrick is still out there.
You free Wolf-Rick.
You guys go down.
As you descend the staircase,
Boler, this has been a day of chaos, tyranny.
You have rescued Cadigan.
and Cadigan Wolfrick licks at your hand
as the shackles come free.
You know that you are a made man
from the candescent creed,
but tyranny has won you, your freedom.
You descend the staircase, Belair,
a nine-pointed star.
More than 20 bolts of fabric,
more jet than midnight,
that you realize are shadows themselves.
These tailors have been turning mortal souls
into bolts of fabric.
You see shears of shadow,
darkness spun suits.
You see that you now stand in the heart
of the warlock's trade in the secret shadow
of the candescent creed with all of the tools
that the Merconad have used to run their illicit business
for the FOTARC.
All of these artifacts that you know,
belong in the museum, and I'd like you to go to level five.
Yay! Let's go, baby.
Oh, Rulius, you kinky boy.
And we are gonna move from you guys back to the V-O-Rora.
Let's go, baby.
I love it, I love it.
Should we stay or should we go?
You guys want to stay for his?
Oh, oh, yeah.
I got to level up.
I know, you'll love it up, do you think?
I want to stay here, level up.
I know this is a beautiful one.
This will be our last scene of the evening.
Then I can, I'm fine.
I'm just sipping water.
You don't want to come back to me.
We return back to the Via Aurora.
Primus Chaconis is just shaking your hand.
You see, Yonessa, says,
indeed, my Lord Chaconis, everything that I have heard,
it must come to pass that Wakanda hears it as well.
He is the sion of my house.
should I die?
And you see Primus raises an eyebrow
and goes, should you die again?
Oh, resurrected one.
And you see, she says,
it will come to be Wicander leading the creed.
You see, he looks and says,
and not Goddard, your son.
She looks and smiles.
Wicander is my heir, Lord Tukamis.
As I've said, amends will be necessary.
for you to make up what you have done here.
Petra and Rye are both smiling at you
as well here, with candor.
And you see that you very much, on that high,
you've hit so many high rolls in a row.
Primus doesn't seem perturbed
that you are a part of this conversation.
So you are very much in this conversation, right?
Right.
You see, Yonessa says,
it is,
incredibly important that we maintain these alliances.
Why, Primus, where from this rush?
Why this sense of urgency?
You've disturbed so much, this obsession with the orchard you were trying to draw Aranesa out?
I'm afraid I can't understand.
What clock are you running against here?
Primus puts a finger to his lips.
Give me an insight check.
Sure.
12 plus 3, 15.
15.
You just see him put a finger to his lips and go,
was greedy with power.
Yenessa, that is all.
I stumbled.
And on a 15, I think you, no, that's not right.
But Yonessa lets it slide in terms of asking
why he was rushing.
It's almost like there's a little gulp.
seems worried or concerned about something.
He says, let us not speak instead of my hastiness
and the failure of our plans with the David Vindicta,
plans that I would have been more than happy to align
with the Halofar.
After all, let us not forget that those houses out there
at your buffet slaughtered members of our family
in the Shepros War.
Are you aware of an entity known as the cloak?
You see Yonessa sort of cocks her head and says,
I can't say that I am, Pramus.
In our pursuit for Calcidian,
we came across the remains of a half-ling celestial
known as Old Blat,
but before we could find the remains,
it had been placed or obscond had been stolen
and put into some perverse
halfling coffin created by entity known as the cloak that we believe were connected to the late
Fiazzi Fang. They had taken not only that, but another source that we had found in the
Mornvale, the homeland of the elves. You see that Inessa says, was the Ozzy aware of your
machinations. Primus sort of strokes his beard and says, we imagine that at first he might be,
but I have begun to think that they have their own aims and ambitions. I do not think it was
their intent to stymies. I don't know if they were even aware of our plans, but I do know
that they are searching for keystones. Significant artifacts, I believe they're attempting to
address some of the imbalances of the afterlife.
Yonessa turns her head.
She says, well, that doesn't work very well for your plans or for mine, Primus.
The coffin slipped our grasp somewhere in Venatus.
We know that it had been crafted and closed some password created for the name of some confidant,
but they might be trying to use it to reopen a door to fairy.
I just don't know.
We don't know what they're up to, but they are vast,
and they are moving, and they are moving,
not against us, but perpendicular to us,
and that is more concerning.
The time for ignoring them is at an end,
and I didn't raise it to the august body
of the sundered houses because I thought that I'd be able to do so.
You see Yonessa smiles and says, as our new ruler,
and he says, something of the kind.
You see that Yenessa says, and the Azi,
Didn't he, don't you have him?
And you see that, Primus says, I'm afraid we don't.
You see, Yenessa says, but you,
and you see she gestures to her chest,
and you see he says, even so.
He says this cloak is of dire significance.
And I can tell you more of what I know,
but the important thing is to state that things are shifting, I fear.
They are amassing these keystones,
and if we are not careful to find out what it is they are trying to do,
then you see, Yenna says, should we,
and gestures to the other houses outside,
and Primus says, maybe not just yet.
Yenessa nods and says, all right, well,
I think you should figure out what you can
afford on your tally. And he says, one thing, Yonessa, and he produces Octus's signet ring.
Oh.
This is my son's ring. You see that she squints and says, really, specifically, Octus's ring.
I know my children's signet rings, and this is his. You see, Yonessa says, so he was involved
with the disappearance of the Lady Cornray.
Primus goes,
Can't be.
He would have been in the Eternal Night
or somewhere between Reasongirdle in there.
There's no, he left missive.
Petra and Raya, my daughters.
You see, Petra goes,
we almost got him.
We stood on the cliff face
as he fled on a giant eagle.
You see that,
Genessa says,
so this ring,
Primis goes,
was placed.
there, not by Octus, but someone wanted us to believe.
I don't know. Einfossen trickery?
And you see Yenzer goes, excuse you, Einfossen trickery?
What next? Royce brutality? What are we speaking of?
You see that he goes, no, maybe not the Einfosser.
He looks out the window.
Inessa says, he says, what are you imagining,
He rolls the signet ring in his hand.
Perhaps not any of our fellow houses.
Perhaps some enterprising little magpies have been stealing things.
Gases out the window.
I think another player may have announced themselves in our game, Yonessa.
Someone's just sat down in our table,
and I can't quite see them yet.
He holds the ring in his hand.
Something.
is moving in this city.
Inessa, something you should be aware of.
She says, leave the city to me, Primus.
I will crack it soon enough.
The council will finish its crumbling.
Trust me.
He looks and says,
do I have anything to fear from Otto?
She again holds her finger and says,
as long as he's shouting at you, you're fine.
It's when he's smiling that you have to worry.
He says, all right,
I should return with Petra and Ryan.
to Ubermiss Manor at once.
We have a member of the cloak captured there,
but she is wild-shaped,
and none of my children are proficient enough
to give the scar to one who is wild-shaped,
so I've had to wait for my return.
Once she has the scar, we can kill her,
and then we'll be able to drag anything out of her
on the other side.
You see that Yenessa nods,
nods, says, did you really kill Octus simply for, and you see Primus goes, he had already
betrayed a house. He was guilty for crimes that merited death regardless. I'm not a monster,
Yonessa. Yenessa nods. He turns, Primes turns to you here, Wicander, and says,
keep an eye out for any sign of an organization known as the cloak.
You should be well aware of how dangerous they are.
Anything you hear throughout your organization.
Perhaps, I don't know.
I mean, there's nothing that, you know,
I can't imagine with all the commoners
within the cantescent creed, you'll find an answer.
You see that Yenessa Cox and eyebrow and says,
Do you discount the utility of commoners, Primus?
He turns to her and says,
Obviously, Yenasa.
They are dredge.
I do not conceive of a world in which we need listen to them for much longer.
Yenessa smiles and says,
then again, I suppose, to the shapers, we were all commoners.
Primus just sort of regards her silently.
The doors open and you see Otto,
Ein Fasen and Adakani Kormoray both walk in.
Lord Kormoray says,
we will, we've considered your words,
Lord Triconis, but you have damaged us here.
Not only with the destruction of House Royce,
which had been discussed, but was not a firm plan.
You lied to us.
Should not have done this.
And you see, Primus goes,
Words are not enough.
My fellow lords, my peers,
a transference of 10 million gold pieces
to each of your august houses
and a grant of land and title.
And once Talmora is fully overthrown,
those ancestral lands, of course,
your families have fun.
more claim to than mine.
Lord Cormoray nods and says,
10 million gold pieces, it's a generous offer.
Otto steps forward and says,
you have lied here in this room, Primus.
10 million is a base cost
to barter your way back onto a seat of this council.
I wish to know if you're trickery,
and Scalduggery is at an end.
Have we heard the last of your schemes in this place?
Primus goes, past what I have attempted,
I am left only with the recourse of politics.
I, do you give me your word, Lord Primus?
Primus goes, aye, aye, aye.
And you see that Otto puts out a hand as if to shake,
and says, will you shake my hand and tell me true
that there are no more arcane machinations
and that your further efforts will be to the good of this alliance?
Will you shake my hand and say it?
You see, Primus briefly cast Detect Magic
to see if something's going on here?
Sure.
and says, I don't know if I, will you shake my hand?
He reaches out and shakes Otto's hand and says,
no more arcane machinations.
Politics, taking over the Barrow Guard,
destruction of the Revolutionary Council,
slow and steady from here on out, Lord Einfossen.
Otto squeezes his hand.
You can see Primus is a little uncomfortable
as Otto says,
please be prompt with the remittance of payment
and takes off out of the room.
Primus turns around Petra and Raya.
All right, girls.
You see, he puts a hand on Petra and Raya's shoulders
and says, very well done.
You've both done an excellent job
and gives each a little kiss on the cheek.
and says, we'll make our way to the carriages.
Yannatha, thank you for everything.
I'll just nod to the Lord and just say,
Perpetra, Raya.
If I weren't betrothed, I would, well, things would be different,
but it was lovely to see you.
And I'll kiss both of their hands.
You see each of them looks, and you see they say,
oh, will you walk with us for a spell to the carriage,
my Lord, Hila.
It would be my honor.
you see that your grandmother says,
good job, weekend, and pass you on the cheek and says,
what a long day, I'm off to rest.
Good job, lovey.
And as you walk with Petra and Raya for a moment,
you see they turn and say, strange betrothal, no,
to one of the Dantonios, lesser house.
Whatever my family wishes is probably best for me.
Yes, unfortunately many of our betrothals ended.
I'm so sorry to hear that.
Horrible, horrible fortune.
Many, many that were promised met an untimely end.
Well, I pray mine doesn't.
You see, they turn and say, they say, yes, of course.
Well, of course it means that we have been passed over as heirs.
because those that would marry us
cannot seem to remain alive long enough
to hold a ceremony.
You see, that Raya looks at Petra and says,
it is ill fortune, but also we feel very,
there would be something quite heartbreaking, I think,
for us to wed.
One of our heartfelt wishes we have had
is we have always been so close, my sister and I,
and the thought that our children would simply
be cousins to each other rather than true siblings
has always made us quite sorrowful.
You seem like very close siblings, yes.
That's a lovely sentiment.
No, but it's a foolish thing there.
In ancient past of old Obridemia,
there were those that took more than one husband
or more than one wife.
Oh.
I, that is, that is,
The old days, eh?
It was lovely speaking to you, Lord Halevon.
It was lovely speaking to you as well.
I hope we get to catch up again quite soon.
You see that they both curtsy and go and head out to the carriage with Lord Primus,
leaving you your lonesome in the Via Aurora.
Ahara.
Oh.
Oh. Okay.
Well.
I'm, maybe I'll just retire to my room and goon a bit.
Sam just learned that word.
You just learned that.
We can't.
The worst inside joke.
As you, as you look out, you see that,
you see that Philonius, your uncle looks over and says,
Strange ducks, those Taconas, don't you think?
Oh, sorry, who's this?
This is Philonis, yes.
Yes, yes, yes, yes.
It's a marvel that the Fotark is able to keep her composure
among so many different factions,
all with so many different desires and secrets.
Yes, they are a sinful lot.
But for the time being,
we must do as we must.
Glad you're back, nephew of mine.
Ah, yes, yes.
And you see that your mother and your little brother
walk over to you as well.
Long day, have you had something to eat, weekend?
No, not in quite some time.
Tyranny.
She's not here.
I will have to get myself something.
Oh, no, I'll have a servant, do you?
No, no.
I should learn.
to be self-reliant, right?
Perhaps I'll walk into the city
and see what I can find at one of the shops.
Oh, no, no, no, no.
We'll get you something, darling.
I feel like a walk and some fresh air
would do me good.
All right, my son.
Do you want some guards sent with you?
You know what?
No.
I think I'll go on my own.
Come what may.
Give me a persuasion check.
He's going to get a tail.
Fourteen,
Persuasion plus seven.
21.
Have a lovely stroll.
We'll see you.
And now we know you always return.
I certainly will.
By you too.
Walking out, you see the lights
of the candescent creed throughout this neighborhood.
You hear chanting and singing.
At the base of the city, you hear cheers from the theater.
And suddenly you feel, and you see light looking down,
Something at your side in a small coin purse,
like a small satchel, is glowing.
I'll take it out and look at it.
A wooden lion's head emblem is glowing within you.
Glowing in your hands.
And you know beyond a shadow of a doubt
that Teor Pride Sire has died this night.
