Starting point is 00:01:16 some 26, 25 years before the events of our story. We are at the Nest and Natter, a tavern in Caravan Hill, a happening live-in' live-es marketplace here within the city of Dolmachiar around the corner from a heavy bit of construction
Starting point is 00:01:50 occurring in the freshly bought manner of House Cormoray. And in a corner booth of the Nest and Natter, which is again a lively and yet also divy, It's a little bit glossy and brassy where it needs to be in its fixtures, but also still is serving Folksie Fair. The floors are so sticky. Floors are so sticky.
Starting point is 00:02:19 Marisha, what state do we find Murray Magnessen in here with her compatriots at the corner booth? She's definitely looking a little rough around the edges. You can still see little specks of grit. maybe some plaster that's kind of dried and crusted on her shirt collar a little bit. Hair is matted, and a little like messy and slicked back from where she's just taken sweat after sweat, after sweat and just wiped it through her hair.
Starting point is 00:03:00 She's feeling a little annery, a little agitated. But she's on pite number two, and that's making her feel a lot. better. This is probably third, maybe fourth night this week that she's been in the nested natter after a long day of doing manual labor in the heat of this hot month. Across the table from you, your cousin Jasper is feeding bar nuts to his pet scooch. So, Scooch is a dwarven griffin that is about three inches long, that is the front half of a chickadee
Starting point is 00:03:55 and the back half of a hamster, and has tiny little owl plumacorns, like those little sort of ho- The little poofs. The little sort of like tufty ear plumacorns. So the chickadee has those classic Griffin ears, but it's still a tiny little thing. He's like, oh, come on, Scooch.
Starting point is 00:04:12 I think this heat's getting to him. He can't hardly flap. He can't hardly flap, but he ain't sending a little song. Jasper, have you given him water yet today? I gave him beer. No. Oh, my God. Next to you, there is also an older Dwarven woman
Starting point is 00:04:28 who's got her arms crossed, got blonde hair, and her, eye shadow, her makeup. She gets made up to go do this construction work, but the heat is just all run down her face. She looks like she's been crying hard, even though it's just sweat. It looks out thick, forearms just rippling with muscle.
Starting point is 00:04:46 She turns out and says, "'Eh, we better call it at night at two. "'I don't think I can go in for round three. "'We gotta be up. "'If we're gonna get that fountain done, "'we gotta be up at ass crack of dawn, "'I'd say, probably gotta get up in the dark. "'We're not gonna get it done.
Starting point is 00:05:01 "'What makes you think we're gonna finish it tomorrow? "'Every time we're on that site, "'they come out with more elaborate requests "'and wanna change their creative vision. "'Fuck, creative vision. and like they fucking know creativity if it came up and cupped their balls. Hey, come on now.
Starting point is 00:05:20 Jasper leans forward. This is the Hucklewind. We're out here doing public good. That means speak with moral character on your Hucklewind. You are showing the generosity, craft, and skill of the dwarves of Ozot. That's us.
Starting point is 00:05:37 We can't be talking about. This are the people for whom we perform these acts of service. Jasper, what do these rich folks need with an act of service? Where does generosity end in just whatever this self-servant vanity project begins? Like, that is just a bastardization of what the hucklewind is about. I thought we were going to be coming out here and, like, fixing infrastructure, like, building a bridge or something. Like, what is this?
Starting point is 00:06:17 What are we doing? This is a joke. I think the hucklewind, I don't know. You see, Glenn, looks and he says, well, money don't grow on trees, you know. I assume we're doing this for the cormoray because they probably drop a stack of cash and pays for all the other hucklewins
Starting point is 00:06:45 that go out and actually help folks that need helping. You know. You're giving them a lot of grace, you know. that. Hey, if I know one thing about this world, it's rich people gonna get theirs. You see that Jasper looks over and says, it's a nice fountain.
Starting point is 00:07:03 You can be proud of it, even if it's not for, even if they gonna, yeah, I didn't know they was gonna put a wall around the courtyard. It does. It's not a real hook of wind. It's, I don't know. Over Jasper's shoulder, you see a door to a back room. is slightly open, and you see a quite handsome,
Starting point is 00:07:30 sort of middle-aged halfling man. He's got little waistcoat a chain going to a watch. He's got a round belly. And you see him speaking saying, well, I agree. I mean, the more children, the more of the common folks that we can get in the classes, the better off. And if we have to go into debt to do it, then so be it. But ultimately, I think that the important thing is,
Starting point is 00:07:51 we don't need to charge a tuition that will be exculpatory or exploitative. And you see another voice in the room says, Ellipides, the cost of the gemstones for the ritual. The spell ink is, it costs a fortune. We're running out. The donation was incredibly generous and it's limited. If we don't have a way to get more gemstones, then there won't be. And you see he says, well, we'll find, we'll find a way.
Starting point is 00:08:25 Maybe we can offer to, what if we offer some arcane services to the Revolutionary Council? Or we, you know, maybe one of the houses, maybe House Quorae would like some arcane services. Oh, good, we're going to offer our arcane services to a family of sorcerers. I'm sure that they'll have a hard time coming up with. And you see, he says, well, but wizardry, we're generalists. We, you know, these houses are limited in their arcane uvre by their bloodline. We can study where we wish, find what we wish. And you see that another older woman says,
Starting point is 00:09:01 Alepides, we've found one and one half words of power. We're not exactly generalists yet. We've found out how to summon some wind. Can get wind. We have some, some wind. I can't even get wind that blows east. And you see that Ellipollip, But he says, well, we'll get there in time,
Starting point is 00:09:21 but we can solve the material components cost issue without asking the poor students to foot the bill. Anyone want something to drink? I have, you see, he reaches into a pocket and literally a moth flies out of his pocket. And you see he goes, Eustace, goes back. Go back in there.
Starting point is 00:09:45 It's familiar, goes back in his pocket, and he gets a couple little copper coins and says, I'll go get us some drinks. and you see he walks off to the bar. Uh, I'm gonna try and just shuffle over a little bit. Sorry, hold that thought, Jasper. Bartender. Okay, that looks up.
Starting point is 00:10:04 What can I get you? Well, I would think I would like another round for a table of my friends over there, but maybe I wouldn't mind buying a round of drinks for those fancy folks sitting back there behind that, Swing and door. Fancy folks. This is some of the most broke people I know. They're academics.
Starting point is 00:10:25 Oh, yeah. Yeah, that's fair. I guess it's just they look kind of a bohemian, you know. It looks a little. A little eccentric. I'll let him know. The professor, this is Professor Tollbarrel? Professor Tallbarrel.
Starting point is 00:10:40 Professor Tallbarrel? Yeah. He walks over and explains, he points over, as Ellipides has to get up onto one of the orc-sized bar stools and hold the money up. And you see that, as a bartender explains, points over, you see, he turns over to look at you, and goes, thank you.
Starting point is 00:10:58 One moment, please. You see, puts the money away and comes down and walks over and says, I thank you so much for your kindness, young lady. Oh, you're, you're so very welcome, you know. I happen to be on my huckle wind, and generosity is the name of the game, so. A generous spirit of the dwarves of the Sunset Mountains known far. and wide. What is your name, my lady? Murray, Murray Magnessen.
Starting point is 00:11:26 Lippetys Tall Barrel. It's a pleasure and an honor. Thank you for buying us drinks. You know what they say? Rich in knowledge, poor in food and drink. I have never turned down a free meal or a free drink in my life. Well, a real professor, Professor of Magic. Is that what you are? I just, I'm, I just, I couldn't help but over here. You talking about the words of power and You know. Yes, yes. I am a professor of the Penteverell. Pentevral. We are a...
Starting point is 00:12:04 That's a big old word. It's so many syllables. We are, as of this year, a university. We have our first building with over three classrooms. substantial. We have four classrooms. Thank you very much for the drinks.
Starting point is 00:12:31 And to think that not only you're generous with, I'm aware of the Hucklewand program, and my goodness, what sort of project are you making some civic good or a park or a plaza? A fountain. Lovely, where? What's square? It's for the cormorays, how much. Cormorais that's in their private courtyard.
Starting point is 00:12:58 You know the cormorais? Yes, I do. I know the cormorays. Lot of money. Yeah, but apparently they needed a act of service. You know, I'm so sorry. I don't mean to, this is so invasive and presumptuous of me. So forgive my candor.
Starting point is 00:13:24 but if it's resources that you're lacking, you know, I specifically heard that maybe some gemstones would be useful. Oh, I, I, you're a Hucklewind journey, a journey woman, I couldn't, I couldn't possibly, I have, and we, it's very, very kind of you, but there's no, it's a, it's a wizard's college rather than one, oh,
Starting point is 00:13:57 She kind of like, yeah, she kind of shows very coily her gemstone teeth and kind of looks away a little bit, and as she kind of runs her fingernail across her teeth, she casts message directly to Tall Barrel and says, I think it could be a mutual beneficial relationship if you let the Magnesson family jewels maybe help fund a little bit of research. He looks at you and says,
Starting point is 00:14:28 Did you just do that? That's a gift that I've only ever heard of. Are you a sorceress? No, no, no, I'm a hick. How did you, that's remarkable. You possess a telepathic gift? I thought I saw, was that a semantic component of a spell? Yes, sir.
Starting point is 00:14:58 Who taught you to do that? Myself. Remarkable. That's a remarkable piece of arcane innovation. Do you just mind if I like, maybe, I grabbed the beers that he was holding, and I'll help take you, take these to the table for you. Jasper, I'll be right back.
Starting point is 00:15:18 You see, he says, he goes, where the hell are you going? I'll be right back. You see that the Ellipides comes over and says, oh, let me give you a, you walk back looking around, and you see, he goes over and says, oh, companions, fellow salon members, not salon, fellow academic university members,
Starting point is 00:15:35 professors of the Pentebral. Young Murray here has cracked short-range telepathy using the material component of her gem teeth. And you see, says, all right, well, let's all calm down. What did you say your last name was? Magnessen. The other professors all go, Magnetian. Yeah, yeah, you know, Sunset Mountain Magnetons.
Starting point is 00:15:59 Your jewel, your gemstone merchants, yes? Yeah, so she kind of just, you know, coily brushes. Her sweaty hair flashes, you know, the chunky jewel on her finger. Yes, you know, we're humble folk. You see that they all sort of look around, and you see that Ellipides looks at you and says, so you're, in addition to being a craftsperson, you're a merchant as well.
Starting point is 00:16:30 You have some familiarity with business and trade and commerce and the like. Why, yes, I've helped my family run that business for many years now. If you're interested in Arcane Magic, he looks around in all these sort of like, very, like, bohemian, artsy, little funny bow ties and ruffs and all strange manner of dress,
Starting point is 00:16:52 smile and look around, he says, we have been looking for a bursar. I happen to be very good with keeping books. Wizard dress, spell books. It's a double untimbed. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Laughter echoes up from the table. I intended that.
Starting point is 00:17:13 I intended that was the joke. Laughter echoes from the table here at the Nest and Natter. Murray's beginning as a Wizard of the Penteveral started that very night as our story continues on tonight's episode of Critical Role. Hello and welcome to the Critical Role announcement playhouse. This time. Next up, we just released a new back. batch of episodes for Get Your She Together,
Starting point is 00:17:43 our how-to video series for Daggerheart. Daggerheart. While our first batch of episodes covered the basics for players and GMs, and these four episodes, we dive a little bit deeper. Our player-focused videos cover character heritage and the rundown on multi-classing, while we take GMs on the world tour of adversaries and environments.
Starting point is 00:18:00 So, no better time to watch GIST now on the Darrington Press YouTube and Beacon. Go check it out. Just you together. Just-JGis together. Ashley, you're up. Hey, I see why am I, which means in case you missed it. I'm poor.
Starting point is 00:18:16 The Critical Rule Foundation is highlighting one of our long-term charity partners this month, the First Nations Development Institute. We love them so much. Yes. This means all donations and CRF merchises. Merch-merchises. Yeah, that's a merch purchase.
Starting point is 00:18:33 Yeah. That's, why haven't we used that before? Merchises. Merchises. Go get your merchises. So all of them, all your merchises, made in the month of February, have been set aside for the First Nations Development Institute.
Starting point is 00:18:44 With a mission to uplift economies and lifeways of native communities, the money raised goes to programs that focus on agriculture and food system investments, stewardship of native lands, and advocacy for native economic justice. You have until February 28th, so if you are able to donate, head over to critroil.com slash foundation. Nice. Merchises. Merchises.
Starting point is 00:19:08 We got it. Thank you so much, Ashley. Thanks. I believe that concludes our announcements. So let's go ahead and jump back into Aramon. Woohoo! Return to Aram in the deserts of the old and fallen empire of Obrademia. Our adventurers, seekers, journeyed east from Dolmachiar seeking visions and vengeance,
Starting point is 00:20:57 passing through the seat of House Einfassen, the bustling city of Reasongirtle, they discovered that perhaps there were more questions than answers about what had befallen the houses of DeVinos and Royce. Men arrested, letters sent by bird far off to the golden orchard, making their own way to the gardens
Starting point is 00:21:23 of the druids of stone season. From Castle Clippin Blick. Yes. We were all waiting for you to say it. From Castle Clippinblick to the Shon. to the Schoengarten with pitched combat astride the Huck-Varlinbukha. That's my people.
Starting point is 00:21:42 You rode by Skycarriage to Castle Torch, home of the Barrow Guard, where Julian discovered that some number of his battalion, trained under his command, had been sent with the head ranger, under the disguised orders of House to Com. to defend Tanisar.
Starting point is 00:22:05 You made your way to the Shadowlight Waypoint, where you met Sir Obzaz Claw and Masha Thorn of the Circle of Ancients, and one Dr. Amri Talter of the totality, a nervous halfling cleric of an order of intelligence-based clerics. They actually get intelligence that are casting modifier for their clerical spells. Getting to divine belief in a sort of really academic way.
Starting point is 00:22:40 A old and long-sense resolved prophecy was about to endanger the lives of many members of the Order of the Rose, protecting a caravan of candescent creed goods headed towards Venatus. Relieved of her duty upon the word of Octus Tacitus, Dr. Talter was preparing to return to the totality after a long conversation having to do with loyalty objective purpose and quest some truths were laid bare by our adventurers here why did this
Starting point is 00:23:20 mysterious elven stranger draw so close to young Octus Taconas is it because she believes there may be a hope that for many long years she has not felt that the dead may walk amongst the living once again. And I someone will like my personality. And indeed. As soon as you have one, baby. Even between Tysha and Octus,
Starting point is 00:23:46 was there some distance created with the framing of a question, could you or would you, if you knew it were possible to bring more than a fox back from the other side, but to bring, a shaper, or as some would call them a god. And from Julian de Vinos, seeking revenge on the house of Taconas,
Starting point is 00:24:14 were these questions asked of what drew this group together? Tensions rose. Bitter words were shared. And according to the vassal of the young Lord Octus Taconas, Dame Gaia Saramai, she pronounced this mission as doomed. Making your way with Dr. Talter and Dame Gaia Saramai, over the Titans bench and down the Tiriaviyah, an ancient highway in a desiccated aqueduct
Starting point is 00:24:52 headed towards the heart of the ancient empire. You found your way to the sands below, where lighting a torch under the naked stars of the Eternal Night, shadows came to life and voices spoke, not under the will of their owners. You arrived at the excavation of Tanasar in ancient celestial the place of wings, where Dr. Talter had told you
Starting point is 00:25:25 that the promise of celestial vengeance was given to the priestly houses of old. where Tanzul, God of the sun, said, should my brother strike me down, my vengeance will still not be at an end. Using the Kibbenimkadas, a book of the names of stones, Octus Taconas saw a vision of the ancient temples moved to this now buried place,
Starting point is 00:25:56 seeing a memory in the rock of when the sun walked this very earth. arriving at the edge of the quarry and making your way down the switchback road, exterior of obsidian and volcanic glass, you found this lost holy place. The bodies of the Barrow Guard twitching there under the starlight, approaching one, extending a hand to Julian and Phelis, looking through the helm to see the fluttering of wings,
Starting point is 00:26:40 blinking eyes, beaks of nightingales. We return in this moment of adventure. I'm going to need a wisdom-saving throw. Wisdom? Let's go. No way. Where you become birds. Awful.
Starting point is 00:26:58 You don't got this. Uh-oh. Wisdom saving through. Nine. Vales, you are lifted into the air in this month. and you find yourself producing the Stone of Night Song in your hand unbidden to you. I'm going to need everybody here to roll initiative.
Starting point is 00:27:23 Okay. Okay. Okay. Let's go. Let's start. What? I guess we begin now. Okay. Shit. Damn. Why didn't I roll that? Okay. I gotta make Alex not touch my dice. You keep making me touch your dice though.
Starting point is 00:27:38 I know. Shadow-touched. What do we get here, man? Natural 24-24. Let's go. What did we get here? Dirty 20. 20 for Tysha. What did we get, Octus?
Starting point is 00:27:52 God, I did a really good job, but it's only an 18. I hate those days. What did we get, Bayless? I got an 18 as well. Dang. Okay. I saw the tone, and I was, ha! Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:02 I love this dice. Good, I'm glad. Julian, you are going to be first to act in this moment. Vales is floating about three feet off the ground. The birds are whirling, buffeting into your chest as this cyclone of moving birds moves up and around. As she produces the stone, you hear a rush of wings. The other bodies out here on the ground,
Starting point is 00:28:28 birds rise from them in murmuration, moving throughout the field, and you can hear a rush of wings from the darkness at the stone gates at the front of the temple. All right. Immediately, I'm going to activate my hair stone, the... Oh, yes. The hair's charm. The hair's charm, thank you. As a bonus action, to enact the jump spell on myself, I'm going to plant off the nearest piece of semi-elevated stone
Starting point is 00:28:56 in this kind of exterior temple space to pull my blade and leap up to kind of match the same space where Valus is currently being lifted and surrounded by these entities. And using that trajectory, I'm going to take my blade and try and knock the stone from your hand in the direction of the two of you. Perfect. I would like you to make an attack roll against.
Starting point is 00:29:25 I want you to give me an acrobatics check here, if you'd be so kind. Okay. In this moment, it comes real when Ashdands. I like it. I like it so much. I like it so much.
Starting point is 00:29:38 I rolled the same fucking thing. Did you roll? An 18. I rolled four with a, what was I? Acrobatics. Okay. Plus two, six. 15.
Starting point is 00:29:48 On your attack roll, I haven't rolled a six versus 15. The rapier moves out. As you activate the Hare's charm, you speak a word in druidic, which is a word of gratitude, essentially a thanks in the druidic language. and you immediately feel in your quads and hamstrings and calves a feeling like they are spasming. It is not a comfortable feeling, and you rock it into the air,
Starting point is 00:30:19 feeling a tension and tightness in your legs with this enormous power. The rapier flicks out and the stone scatters across the rock in front of Tysha and Octus. Tisha, you are next to act. Yeah. I'm gonna try to count. You sent it through the air.
Starting point is 00:30:38 I'm gonna try to catch the stone. Great. Go ahead and give me a, I'm gonna sit with that 15, you catch it automatically, give me a wisdom saving throw. Oh, fun. Why? Oh no. Are you sure? Somebody other dice, give it on a break.
Starting point is 00:31:00 Well, that one was doing good. Tent. Great. We are going to come back to Vailas and Tysha in a moment. Oh, geez. For Vailas and for Tysha, each of you on a nine and on a ten here. I would like each of you to mark a death save failure.
Starting point is 00:31:40 You don't lose any hit points. I'd like you to each mark a death save. No, I like it here. This is rad. Brennan. Wait, yeah, I do it. Alex, that's gonna be you. Just write it in your notes. I'm writing it in my notes.
Starting point is 00:32:00 Okay. Okay, so you're up by birds. by birds, you're having a moment, you jumped in the air. Oh, like the way you said that, even if it's true. The birds, are they concentrated around where Vailas is? The birds are still lifting Vailas a lot into the air. Great, so what I'm gonna do, and do they look like they're hurting Vailas?
Starting point is 00:32:25 No, they did not look like they are attacking Vailas. I'm not going to do that. Okay. I don't know what the, okay. You went at the stone, you've caught it, you're there. Okay, I have an idea, okay. Change plans, change plans. Can I, oh, yes.
Starting point is 00:32:50 Ah, I'm going to, how high up you said, is valet. She's three feet off the ground. Oh, that's not, that's way less high than I thought. She can never make it. Okay, I'm gonna run over and try to like, I'm just gonna make a decision. I'm gonna run over and try to pull her
Starting point is 00:33:12 out of the cloud of birds. Okay, great. Go ahead and just give me an athletics check. Okay. And you'll oppose this, Bayless will roll to oppose this. So it'll be opposed athletics. Okay.
Starting point is 00:33:23 You love being in bird. 18. 18. Go ahead and give me an athletics check. Okay. Have quite, am I, like, being, I'm, whatever. We're gonna figure it this. We're gonna figure out and we'll get to your check.
Starting point is 00:33:34 Uh, so not good, 10? What? 10. So that means you're successfully pulled. Oh, yeah, plus five. Wait, what did you say? Athletics. Athletics. I'm sorry. I thought you said decks. Okay. So, uh,
Starting point is 00:33:51 Thirteen. Thirteen. Octus, you were able to pull Valis out of the cloud of birds that rushes in the immediate moment that she is out from that sort of circle to join the murmuration here in the sky. Vales and Tysha, I am going to need each of you to describe, it doesn't have to be the most impactful. death, but a death that your character witnessed that comes to you in memory in this moment.
Starting point is 00:34:26 And I need a death that your character witnessed that comes to you in this moment. Additionally, Veilis, as you are pulled from the cloud to the ground, it is going to be your turn. You each are looking at each other, and Taisha and Veilis, you are partially witnessing each other here on the stone in front of Tanisar. Octus and Julian are fading away slightly,
Starting point is 00:34:58 and only the other of the two of you looks fully solid and real. Either of you can give me a perception or a religion role right now. Yeah, I would love to make perception. This is where we really fulfill the promise of the Seekers table where we get into some weird lore shit. I love it here.
Starting point is 00:35:13 Natural one. Jesus. Natural one. I'll put it away. I'll put it away. No, I like what it's doing. Good job, bud. It's okay, Octus.
Starting point is 00:35:22 We'll finish this, the two of us. 15? 15. For perception? Oh, great. Birds. Religion would have been 14. Tysha is staying visible to you as everything else is starting to fade a little bit.
Starting point is 00:35:38 Octus and Julian look a little bit blurrier, but you're also becoming aware of spirits that you can see near by. And I think you realize in that moment that you and Tisha are both dying. The reason that she looks highly visible to you is that you're both crossing over at the same time. Every time. So it is your turn in this moment. I also am going to again ask a death that Tysha saw
Starting point is 00:36:19 that impacts her. Doesn't have to be the most impactful, but one that stayed with her. Oh, I think the natural one says it gets to be most impactful, but it wasn't necessarily, oh, okay, got it. Kids are kids, and those trees that you've all seen, the very, like, big ginko trees with, like, red leaves. Algar fell from the top and snapped his neck.
Starting point is 00:36:49 and I watched him die and managed. I think it was the first time I'd ever cast Druid magic. He's the first person I ever pulled back as I felt him leave and just by the skin of my teeth managed to cast spare the dying. But I watched my son die. You, Veilis, looking at Taisha, just behind her, like,
Starting point is 00:37:21 over her shoulder, you see red-leaved ginkgo trees, and you hear a snap of a wooden branch, and a sudden sickening thud. I just sort of reach out to grab, and then realize it's not real. It is, Phelis' turn in this moment. As you reach out, you see that she is still holding the Stone of Night Song.
Starting point is 00:37:54 Is there a death that comes back to Vailas in this moment? I think in this moment, and especially with sort of the relationship that she started to form with Tysha, I think the death of her sister hits her in this moment of being on the battlefields right before Cilandry was killed and seeing her sister just shatter. Tysha, behind you, you see a beautiful elven warrior. Look up, elven armor, like leaves of thin,
Starting point is 00:38:54 mithral plate. fashioned across broad shoulders standing her like deep apple red skin with golden freckles throughout it. Hair tied back, this like honey silver hair tied back away from her. She turns, looks, and you can see a horizontal line across her sister's eyes in the ancient past. And you know as the horizontal line is an arrow moving across the sky. And she looks up and there is light. And you watch the soul leave her eyes. No arm raises to defend herself. As an axe comes thundering over.
Starting point is 00:39:42 Phelis, it is your turn. And you are reaching towards the stone of night's in this moment you feel the stone that you have been holding. You now carry a number of magic items with you that you have carried and guarded, but have not connected to. In this moment, you feel the rush of wings and the same Nightingale song that you heard that no one else could hear as you rushed across the bridge,
Starting point is 00:40:27 in Dolmachiar, and you saw her eyes as the eyes of a wolf rushing over the bridge. You're both hearing that music in this moment. You feel the ability to connect to the Stone of Night Song. In a way, past reverence, in a way that is not, in other words, you carefully guarding this to return it to a pedestal back in the Mornvale. You feel a deep understanding of grief.
Starting point is 00:40:57 and mourning reach out to you from that stone to connect to you in your heart. Oh. Okay. Okay. Organize my area. Are you thinking about this? There are no answers in your area, Ashley. You gotta let us believe.
Starting point is 00:41:27 I would connect with it. I would absolutely. Yeah, God. Yeah. For the first time in a long time, feeling that Nightingale song, you open a part of yourself. Openness has not been common in these long years.
Starting point is 00:41:54 And as you open yourself, each of you looking at each other in this space, you see Tysha rushing to a child. a child that she loves more than anything. In some ways, she's been rushing towards this child the entire time you've known her. And you look and see a long gone sister. And as you connect to the Stone of Night's Song, Julian and Octus, all of this has happened in an instant,
Starting point is 00:42:35 but you watch that the nightingales in their murmuration whip throughout this space, rush at Tysha and circle and aim pouring into her back, turning spectral, filling her body, and rushing out from her chest, thundering into your chest, and vanishing into your body. The nightingales are gone from this place.
Starting point is 00:43:01 You stand here in Tannisar. Both of you can remove your one death save failure as you step back from the brink, And Phelis, you are attuned to the Stone of Knightson, which is now in your inventory. We exit initiative. Fuck up. Everyone okay?
Starting point is 00:43:25 My blade is pointing towards you. Hey, what's going on? I don't know. I don't know. Get that away from me. Tell us what happened. I think Tysha picks up. I think she's the natural one. She's still a little stuck.
Starting point is 00:43:44 And the first thing she says, She was looking at her son, but saw your sister. And I think the last thing she does before coming back to herself is casting spare the dying, except she cast it in Elvish, a language she has never done magic in before. As she like picks up and pushes it over your shoulder and then realizes that none of that happened. I don't know what that was.
Starting point is 00:44:16 Are you okay? Do you feel all right? No. All right? What happened? Is holding the stone? Am I holding the stone anymore? You are still holding the stone, but the, oh sorry, no. As the birds rush through your chest, the stone is lifted forward from you and carried across to Vailas. Holding this, Vailas, without any need of an identify spell, you become aware. of a certain number of powers
Starting point is 00:44:55 that have come to you from the Stone of Night Song. As those spirits, which is essentially what those nightingales were, entered your body. The last vision, almost in a flash of wings that came to you in that moment, was a winged, celestial, soft brown feathers on enormous wings spreading from its back, hands of
Starting point is 00:45:33 brass and growing leaves, holding tenderly a dying body, turning into crisp autumn leaves underneath it as it fell apart, and holding the bones of this dying celestial in its hands. you come to and all of those spirits, which strangely feel like whatever pallet and divine sense you have that often tells you if a creature is Faye or undead, you kind of can't tell the difference between these two things.
Starting point is 00:46:12 If there are spirits of death or spirits of fairy, you don't quite know. But you do know that this stone was a not built to sit and be admired. The stone is capable of casting a number of spells. Some of them very much within your grasp to be able to cast. The ceremony spell and the spare of the dying cantrip
Starting point is 00:46:48 become available to you, as well as spells that are actually beyond your ability to cast normally, such as gentle repose, which preserves a body and prevents it from coming back as undead. And finally, speak with dead. The stone. Cool. That's cool. You hear whispers all around you.
Starting point is 00:47:14 Tisha, for the first time, you realize that faint nightingale singing has stopped. Do you have it? Yes. I saw your son. I saw your... Was that your sister? So sorry. I'm so sorry.
Starting point is 00:47:40 Are you okay? Did you save him? Do you save him? Yes, but not before I knew the way you know when you've lost a part of you. Are you okay? I'm okay. Are you okay? I'm gonna be, please help me find my son.
Starting point is 00:48:12 I will help you find your son. We will find him, Tisha. Okay. Askeme, ruins, so see if there's any other movement. Give me a perception check, and anyone that wants to can also give me an Arcona or religion check. Stop making us do religion.
Starting point is 00:48:29 I'm gonna try a religion check. I'm gonna try a religion check. You're brave. Dirty 20 on perception is. 19 Arcana. 19 Arcana. Second natural one. Nothing out here in the quarry.
Starting point is 00:48:48 Nothing that sort of, there are a few bodies that now you can see are laid bare as skeletons. They are, you can see there are some sort of desert beetles that are sort of crawling over the bones looking for any remnants of flesh and finding none. Just picked clean. Picked clean. Bleached white. And I assume based on all the attire here and the fallen banners, these all were likely individuals that were training under me. Yes. On that perception, I think you find one
Starting point is 00:49:31 body that does not bear the markings of barrow guard and appears to wear some loose tattered robes. There's a curved knife nearby in the sand, but you can, looking at the scattered remnants here, many of these barrow guard were struck down by spells. And this figure appears to have the fractures the fractures you would recognize from having been struck down with weapons. I think I quietly look for the nearest fallen banner of the Barrow Guard
Starting point is 00:50:21 and kind of gather it a bit. And in my breath, just kind of speak out to the space around. At least you took one of them with you. Octus, on a 19 arcana, what did we get for a religion here? 23. 23 religion. On a 19 arcana, Octus, You smell something that smells like a spell
Starting point is 00:50:55 after effect you recognize from the pentadrole. It's a little bit of ozone or like petrachore smell that occasionally accompanies abjuration, like magic that impacts magic. Vailas, on a 23 religion check, you feel ease in your body and sense through that divine connection you have to your oath, as you're searching for almost like,
Starting point is 00:51:36 what were those nightingales, what kind of spirits were those? I'm actually going to tell this just to Ashley. No! I mean, cool for secrets, but I want to know. I love Samo Hussoms. I feel like I should be reading some. Actually part of them, it's weird to be. That's cool.
Starting point is 00:52:00 You've never not been part of a whisperer. It's cool. Whisper three. Don't wake that face. What are you saying? Okay. How's your noseblee? Just one eyes, right?
Starting point is 00:52:22 Probably a half dozen bodies out here. You see the darkness at the gate leading into Tannisar. Yours sure these are from the expedition that left recently. Not a previous one, the rate of decomposition is extreme. I mean, from best I can gather. On that perception, you're looking through. Like with the heavy, with the amount of sand and dust and withering we've seen in surrounding terrain,
Starting point is 00:53:06 do the armaments and materials on these corpses appear to be as weathered as they should be had they been here for a while? There is no possibility for the natural rate of decomposition that has occurred here. I'll also ask, on a 19, you got the 19 Arcana, right? This space has been excavated in the last four years. Like, knowing what wind erosion does to a place,
Starting point is 00:53:38 there's like fresh quarry marks all over this stuff. You know what I mean? Like this is a place that was buried into the desert for like a thousand years and has only been re, emerged recently to the degree where someone like Dr. Talter would have been like, oh, that place has lost to legend, where it's like word hasn't even spread that it was discovered at all, right? But like the bones and the metal, those do not appear to be sandblasted to show the passage of weeks or months. If you had seen the skeletons, you would say these are from 100 years ago. If you're looking at the equipment, some of the equipment that you take a water skin on a corpse. side and it still has water in it.
Starting point is 00:54:20 I just kind of look at you and give you a knock with a clenched jaw. All right. Did going to bird hell a little bit, drop my concentration on locate object? Did you take any damage? No, I had a death save, which feels like is my same thing. You were not incapacitated or unconscious,
Starting point is 00:54:48 and you took no damage, so there's no loss of concentration. Sweet, then I am pushing forward through the dark gate. All right, all right. All right, but. I got like eight minutes left. No, I understand. I would like, we can move and talk, but what happened?
Starting point is 00:55:05 You can explain. I'm not waiting any longer. As we walk and talk, I both saw, I think we were dying. Yes. I love how much you're glossing over that. Wait.
Starting point is 00:55:28 We just saw you both eat a bunch of birds. Okay, that is news to us. The birds flew into you, came out of the front of you and into you. Did we see that? In the sort of visual that bird hell? Yeah. What did we see in bird hell?
Starting point is 00:55:51 You were still seeing everything that was happening in physical space. So all that was happening was starting to get get blurry and vanish. But you were still seeing Julian and seeing Octus just not rendered as clearly. It was almost as though you were seeing both at the same time, so they all got blurry, like the near,
Starting point is 00:56:09 the nearness of death and the living world. When those Nightingale spirits flew up, they emerged. What you would have seen Vailas is all of them kind of disappearing behind Tysha and then Tysha being propelled forward a step as birds would have rushed out of her chest into yours.
Starting point is 00:56:29 Okay. And what you would have seen, Tysha, is essentially just the eruption of spirits from your chest, bearing the stone back to Vales as she connected to it. I don't think it's a bad thing. Okay, okay. I don't feel scared.
Starting point is 00:56:54 Good, because we need to keep moving. We can talk about it later. Octus, you seem really fucking annoyed. No, I'm scared. What was that? I don't know. Explain what happened to you when you died on that table. I don't know, and I get to your point. Yeah. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:57:25 It just... Still actively processing a thing that happened seconds ago. Fine. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I don't know why birds shot out of my chest. That's weird and new. Are you in control of your faculties? 100%. Are you in control of your faculties? Are you sure? Then let's keep moving. Yes.
Starting point is 00:57:46 Uh... I would like to put a little divine sense, see if there's any celestial fiends or undead. You get your divine sense up. Looking at, yes. I can also see, detect the presence of any place object that has been consecrated or desecrated. You are approaching a desecrated holy site.
Starting point is 00:58:20 Tannisar, as it exists right here, you can sense has been befouled. The manner of that befoulement, there is celestial writing weathered on the outside. I don't know if you can read celestial or not, but you can sense the potency of the language that is depicted here. You also can look out, you feel a dull, fiendish presence
Starting point is 00:58:53 somewhere distantly. brimstone. But that's not strangely what strikes you as profane here. The thing that strikes you as profane here is the celestial component. There's something wrong, place of wings. There's something here like a sickness that comes when a creature stops caring for itself. lets itself get molted and dirty, stops living in the real world connected to its body. There's an acrid stench coming from all this clean sand. It should just smell like wind and stone
Starting point is 00:59:45 in a place like this, glass, and yet something, something's become very sick in this place. You do not sense any undeaded, dead, but there is a powerful potential energy stored within this place. The dead are not animated here, but the power to so do is present, potently. And moreover, you can sense a sort of raising of the hairs on your skin. Your ability to repel necrotic damage to resist the pole of death is being activated here ever so slightly.
Starting point is 01:00:44 And I think you realize it's not powerful enough to damage your shorter lived allies, but there is ambient necrotic damage being dealt by being in this place. And you look and see the bleached white skeletons and understand that living flesh, if it is here for a couple hours, we'll be fine. If it is here for a few days,
Starting point is 01:01:12 maybe some lesions or some injury. To be here over a long period of time spells certain death. This information. A little bit of star light we might have in this space. Is it cold enough to see our breath? Very much so. Look for any other signs of mist or breath
Starting point is 01:01:41 as we continue forward. Only Octus is not producing mist on his breath at this moment. Funny that. You all agree. No torches, yeah? Yeah. No torches. Did you go to ping off your, off the area? Nothing yet?
Starting point is 01:02:04 Nothing yet. I check back on Saramai and the good doctor and see how they're faring in this advance. Oh yeah. She will not. Dame Guy is looking at Octus and looking at at these companions. Anyone who wants to give me an insight check.
Starting point is 01:02:19 Yeah, dude. Dr. Talter is visibly doing. Stutter stepping along. Six, I don't care. 19. 23. 13. 13. 13. Dame Saramai would give anything
Starting point is 01:02:38 to have made different choices in her life. But she doesn't look like she's considering making a sudden new choice here and now. Just running back across the desert to lose her mind amongst the shadows again? No, I don't know. She's not, no. I think that she's got a snake tattooed on her. I don't trust her that much, Brandon.
Starting point is 01:02:59 No, no. You don't see anything on her other than wishing this was all different. Yeah. Dr. Talter looks like someone realizing that actually office work is not as bad as she imagined it was going to be. I kind of whisper back in her direction. Like, you love history, don't you? Welcome to it. Well, actually, history is the,
Starting point is 01:03:26 actually, and that's a great point. Study of original documents. Some people believe that history is a study of the past, but of course we actually cannot know the past. We can only know what we receive from it. Pay attention. Remember it. Remember it, and when you get the chance, write it down.
Starting point is 01:03:51 It takes for a little... She says a writing in the dark. Writing. You see just writing, yeah, writing in the dark. She also does not have dark vision, but as you, the starlight is giving dim light out here, but as you look at that massive gate going into Tanassar, there is that is pure pitch black within there.
Starting point is 01:04:14 I'll walk in. Sorry. No, just walk in. towards the gate. Same. I just point up to where the writing is. Can anybody read that? What language? Do I ask you?
Starting point is 01:04:26 Celestial. You give me ten minutes, I can. I nudge Dr. Talter. Oh, yes. Shadow and flame, twin houses united evermore in the service of the sun,
Starting point is 01:04:49 who we revere in the glory of day and in the faith of night. Either yours or Wakander's last name referenced poetically one more time. I'm so sorry. No, it's okay. All right. I look back from the edge of the gate.
Starting point is 01:05:09 Are you coming? Yes. We had an important job once, so it's going to be everywhere. Sure. You enter massive chamber. pitch black at first. Tisha, Octus, Vailas.
Starting point is 01:05:33 As you enter, your eyes shift over quickly to moving throughout the shadows here, and you see in the absence of light, you're still rendering many more dead bodies here. This is where the majority of the violence happened. Nothing on Locate Object. This is a base camp for deeper excavation. This is a place where it would have been very light. I think Octus,
Starting point is 01:06:03 you know enough about excavation from being with the Pentebra that does a lot of excavation like this. This would have been the type of excavation where it's not an archaeological dig where you're going through years of, you know, sediment and rock. This is clearing masonry. This is like coming in and going like, oh, sand has moved into structures. Right. A lot of gust cantrips. Yes, a lot of gust cantrips. A lot of, but looking throughout, you see,
Starting point is 01:06:36 it is a strange sort of base camp, and you recognize Barro Guard equipment, but, or I should say, Barrow Guard packs and bed rolls scattered to the edges of this large four chamber, anterior chamber. And when I say large, I mean, 50-foot ceilings, you know, enormous temple structure, right?
Starting point is 01:07:05 It also abuts the edge of the quarry, and you can see that the back of it, the volcanic glass, abuts into true cliffs, where it looks like the temple actually digs down into the earth itself. Enclosed? Enclosed. So ceilings above you, the heavier duty equipment is not Barrow Guard. Hocktis, you look around, you recognize one of your family's tents. You see there's a small Taconas tent there. There are also some hanging cages and some carts.
Starting point is 01:07:40 Having like a, like bringing a mobile jail cell with you to an excavation site is something that the Barrow Guard would not entertain doing. They would tie someone up if they needed to and then move them. However, the Tacanis might have, you know, public public punishments even for like a long-term crew working in a place. So lovely. Sometimes you need it. I-
Starting point is 01:08:07 No, no, no. Are you justifying the large mobile cage? We always have them. Have you turned the eye inward on? Sorry. Later conversation. I wasn't, thank you. All good.
Starting point is 01:08:24 Why are if there's a tent of my family here, they were working together? came with them. With the Barragard? Yeah. Does it look like the Barragard was doing the excavation? Do these corpses look like they died while excavating and just sort of dropped where they were?
Starting point is 01:08:46 For those of Dark Vision, you see that Dr. Talter, by the way, Tasha, you feel, has sort of said, I'm sorry, and has put a hand on your robe just so that she can walk in this space where she can't see. I actually walk up to Vales, if that's all right. Yeah. I'm kind of, sorry. Do you sense encroaching shadows in this space as well,
Starting point is 01:09:12 or can we risk a bit of light for those not gifted so deeply in shadow? I think we can, but you're surrounded by shadow, Julianna. Well, he can always test the hypothesis. And I reach a hand. and from each tip of my finger, a green, what looks like a willow wisp goes, and like dancing lights sheds light around the area. See what happens.
Starting point is 01:09:51 As the wisps emerge, looking behind you, you see illuminating the bodies around you, there are definitely fallen Barrow Guard here, one or two foot soldiers of House Taconas, and more of these robed figures like the one you saw outside that didn't have any identifying marks on them, that also appeared to be very under-equipped
Starting point is 01:10:16 for moving through the desert. As the green light emerges, you have been standing in a circle speaking, and Octus, you look around to see Tisha, Dr. Talter next to her, Vailas, next to you is Dame Saramai, there's Julian and the giant scorpion behind him, Roll Initiative.
Starting point is 01:10:35 It's right behind me. Ah, you're like out of that she. It's right behind me. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're like, fine the face at this point, like, that's great, natural one. Oh, yeah! Yeah!
Starting point is 01:10:51 Good job, boys. Just, uh. It's great. I'm like, I'm like, what are you looking at? You literally just go, ah. Yeah. Yeah. I do they're like, ah.
Starting point is 01:11:04 Does that feel good? Good? Yeah. Ah. Ah. You hate to see it. Yeah. I can't.
Starting point is 01:11:14 Excuse me, man. Oh my God. This feels like a lot for one scorpion. Oh, yeah. Look at it. Look at it. I don't know how to help. Whoa.
Starting point is 01:11:27 Look at all the cages. My family made those. I love Octus just sort of beating face. This is what I was in there. They're like, uh-huh, and how do we think we should feel about that? Yeah. So cool. Interesting. Social justice work sort of happens whenever we encounter it.
Starting point is 01:11:44 This green light over here. Oh, okay. Oh my. So. It's cute here. All of you through this space here, we're going on this whole trail and it ends with, I don't know, a big scorpion kill them all.
Starting point is 01:12:01 Yeah. It's pretty amazing. Welcome to the Skeeber's Table. I guess we figured it out. We got killed by bad C.G.I. Dwayne the Rock Johnson. That's a true nightmare. Yeah. Julian.
Starting point is 01:12:15 We need to be in the Fun Mummy movie. As the green light, as the green light surges forward, raising up as it, boom, lights up. For a minute, you think Julian's like more yoked than I saw. It's so big until you see that it's not his shoulders, It's the claws of a massive scorpion. I flex anyway, because I assume that's what they're looking at. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:12:39 Incredible. I was sitting looking at my traps earlier. I got a pump before walking into the darkness. Julian, you take seven points of damage as this thing whips in and attacks in the last moment as we've sort of moved through this surprise round of it moving up behind you. We love it.
Starting point is 01:13:01 And are under the grappled connection. Let me go ahead and get initiatives from everybody. What did we get, Matt? Natural 1 for a 5. For a 5, great. What do we get, Tycha? 15. 15.
Starting point is 01:13:16 Oh, I got 15 too. Oh, yay! So what do we get? Natural one for a four. Oh, great. I love it. You go first. You go first.
Starting point is 01:13:26 You can go first. Oh, you're a guy. Okay. Okay. Going down. So that's gonna go ahead and be. Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 01:13:43 We'll go ahead and start there. Dr. Talter is actually the, gonna be the- for real. Is gonna go immediately after the Scorpion finishes its turn. So with that attack, it makes that first attack on you. That was the only one with advantage.
Starting point is 01:14:01 The rest happened after its position is revealed. Does a 14 hit. 14 misses. 14 misses. And then the bad one, 15 misses. 15 also misses. 15 also misses. Barely.
Starting point is 01:14:16 So as you get grappled by its claw, a tail comes down. As it chatters, that is going to then be Dr. Talter's turn. She is going to look at this scream at the top of her lungs in a way that I don't want to inflict on this table and look up at you, Tysha, for some indication of what she should do. You're not a fighter, and I just push her back.
Starting point is 01:14:51 She stumbles back and is going to dash away. Five, six, just runs all the way over here. Oh, too far. Sprinting off. Yeah, let's run less. Into the dark. Actually, what's the range of dancing lights? Aha, it is within a 10 foot radius.
Starting point is 01:15:12 Girl, stay close. Within a 10 foot radius. So she doesn't point up into whatever this little. She runs into this little structure. Yeah, they're all floating like 10 feet around me so it creates the most like actual light. Right, right. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:15:25 And other than her going full, like I had a vision, the most magic I've seen her do is distant, Thunder clap. Thometurgy. Yeah, cool, I'm not gonna ask her to help. Like, oh, magic. Yeah. Just, yeah, hover there.
Starting point is 01:15:42 She looks at you and says, I can try to cast a spell. Go for it, be safe. And she's going to roll to make a religion check in front of the board. You don't want her to roll a one through five. An eight. Okay, I'll take it.
Starting point is 01:15:59 I was like, I want Thavertergy to put out one of the dancing lights, and they're like, you sat. You said. Why did you do that? Cause the roof to cave in. She looks at the three in front of her. She's going to look at Tysha and Octus and Vailis and look and say,
Starting point is 01:16:25 such as it is, receive the blessing that my portion of the universal soul of what we understand to be the living beings of Aramon should confer to those within my purview to offer such blessing, please. And you receive the blast spell cast at first level. That's incredible. That's the first time I've heard a spell be cast
Starting point is 01:16:48 and all six seconds were required to get that. Tisha, that's gonna be your turn. Great. That's you three, right? You three. Yeah. I'm gonna slide over, just take like three steps to the right just so for once, I don't catch Julian, so he doesn't have to catch a fade. And I'm gonna cast burning hands
Starting point is 01:17:08 as I've reattuned to the arid landscape here and my spells have changed. Two, three, cool, hell yeah. As I need a DC-15 deck save. DC-15 decks save. Hell yeah. That is a Nat one. We love to see it.
Starting point is 01:17:22 You're gonna take 15 points of fire damage. 15 points of fire damage. As Tisha lights this up, I need a DC-10 history check. from Octus. I was like, what? DC-10, history check. What the hell? There we go. You want you to think back to that time.
Starting point is 01:17:39 Natural 20. Let's go. We went to Fantasy Kansas City and got good barbecue. That's 26. 26. That it smells good. Oh, God. A little lobster bowl.
Starting point is 01:17:48 Make me hungry. Me too. This scorpion's name on a Nat 20 is Saharkas. It is a trained scorpion that belongs to your cousin Tersha. I'm about to say words I've never said before. I recognize this scorpion. Every new thing you do is creepier than the last thing you did. This is my cousin's scor- what?
Starting point is 01:18:15 I'm still gonna kill it. Can you tell it to let go? I'll try. The last time you saw the scorpion, it was the size of like a corgi. So it has grown, it's been many years. It's got way bigger. Same proportions.
Starting point is 01:18:28 Oh, you've nubed up in everything. Look at his little bite. Nubbing. The name is Saharkus. Your cousin, your cousin Tertia. Tertia is the younger sister of two of your cousins that you knew a long time ago, Dosset and Univir. Tertia.
Starting point is 01:18:47 That is going to be, and these are your dad's brothers' kids. This, you recognize this scorpion, absolutely. However, we're still in initiative. This thing is still a fight going on. Vail us, that's gonna be your turn. Okay. Before the record, my bonus action,
Starting point is 01:19:11 I just cash a laelie, but doesn't do anything yet. Go ahead. Gotcha, great, thank you. This is your cousin's scorpion? Yeah, it's not magical or anything. It's just a scorpion. Kill it. I don't like hurting animals, but okay.
Starting point is 01:19:25 Doesn't count. So I will, um. Says the druid. I feel like we're gonna be finding something. I only have one more channel divinity. Well, we did get a long rest, right before we got in here. Yeah. Yes, you did get a long rest where we were getting. But I just used divine sense, so I used one of my.
Starting point is 01:19:40 Just kill it normal. Yeah. I'll just kill it normal. All right, sensor whip. I'm gonna take a swing at it. I'll also remind you that you do have that bonus action to light the embers of Arrask if you so choose. That's true.
Starting point is 01:19:54 I would love to. Let's go outside and do that. All right. I'll just hold it up and a light. The sensor goes from being a, a cozy warm little holder of these like burning coals to roosh and you see fire is bursting out of the sensor. You whispered that.
Starting point is 01:20:15 Yes, I'm like, who. You may add, in addition to your sensor's normal damage, you may add 1D6 fire damage on a hit. Great, okay. And I think it says a plus one bonus to attack and damage. Plus one bonus to attack and damage, that's correct. Okay, so. Where do you wanna move?
Starting point is 01:20:30 Do you wanna get flanking on this thing? Yes, I would love to. So you move over here to the opposite side. Stand up, Veilis. You're drunk. I'm just trying to... Got a shout out, Cail, this sick map, man. This is so sweet. This is the best.
Starting point is 01:20:46 This one's for the birds. Hell yeah. Go for it. So you will roll with advantage on this again. Got it. Okay. Much better. Okay. So it's a natural 19 plus 6, 25.
Starting point is 01:21:03 25 is a hit. Okay, so let's do it. So that'll be, I believe, 1D10 plus 1D6 plus four. Okay, cool. That was very small. The die or the remember. Yeah, I know. Okay, so we've got seven points of sensor whip damage
Starting point is 01:21:29 and five points of fire damage. for 12 points of damage altogether. Hell yes. And I'm not a divine smite. Hell yeah, I love it, go for it. Yeah, let's put a smite on it. Go ahead, so that'll be an additional 2D8 damage. That's 10 points of radiant damage.
Starting point is 01:21:53 Whoa! You see as your druidic flame lights from your hands. The scorpion skitters backwards, and vales with fire as well. Boom, this enormous hammer stroke. What starts going behind you that you let loose more chains so it goes from being like three feet behind you to a 15 foot arc, boom, that lashes down,
Starting point is 01:22:19 cracking the carapace open on the back of this massive scorpion. It is bloodied but still up. As you thunder that blow into it. Julian, that is gonna be your turn. You are grappled. Okay, so as it's kind of, is it, what's it having been grappled with one of its claws?
Starting point is 01:22:35 It's like carrying Julie. I know. As I'm like trying to resist it, I envision like I have my my demi-gotlet almost held up inside its claw, the metal kind of keeping it from crushing my torso, but I'm still held within it. My rapier blades free.
Starting point is 01:22:51 As the impact kind of shudders its body and kind of gives a little bit of flexibility, I maneuver part of my shoulder out, just enough to try and strike back with the rapier towards one of its eyes, the front of its face. Hell yeah. Go ahead and give me. your attack roll.
Starting point is 01:23:06 Your cousin can get a new... Because it is flanked by your allies, even though you're at an angle, you will roll with advantage here. All right. Do I know is the raising and keeping of scorpions, something that's common within my family? Not within your family, however.
Starting point is 01:23:23 A weird cousin. Yeah, they're the scorpion kids. You'll hang out. Mom doesn't let me hang out with the scorpion kids that much. Only at the holidays. Their mother, Naucea, Vakalach. The vassal house of Vakari is a strong connection to Scorpions. Ah.
Starting point is 01:23:41 19 to hit? 19 hits. Alrighty. Let's go. The rapier towards one of its nearby eyes. All right, that'll put us at 11 points of piercing damage. Hell, yes. There.
Starting point is 01:23:55 Ganim dog. Then with, and with it, actually with advantage, I could sneak attack since it was towards its eye. So going for one of the most sensitive parts, like the largest eye I can see where reflecting the light of the orbs you have up there. I just jammed the blade in as hard as I can. Mm-hm-h-h-h-forward.
Starting point is 01:24:11 That's an additional five damage on that. It's gonna be 16 total on that strike. What? You deal 16 points of dance. Sorry, you deal an additional five past that. Incredible. This thing is looking on death's door. All right. As it skitters and spews up bile.
Starting point is 01:24:29 It's a bonus action. Yes. As there still grappled in there, I managed to, I'll say I pry free my demigotlet on the other hand, and after it's kind of like flailing from where the blade struck it in the eye, I managed to get most of my body out, my leg still within its grasp,
Starting point is 01:24:45 and swing wide with the rapier to get it to kind of juke from that direction. Hell yeah. And instead reach out and try and punch the bottom got into the same space where I had pierced where the eye is. Cool. Go for it. Punch this bug to death.
Starting point is 01:24:58 That's what it's about. With the Vex ability, the rapier, it gives me advantage on this strike with the bonus action. Hell yeah. That'll be not that great. 12, that's better. That'll be a 21 hit. 21 hits.
Starting point is 01:25:12 All right, and that will be an additional eight points of bludgeoning damage. Hell, yes, cool. Matt, I didn't wanna do this. Yeah! I'll say at this point I managed to completely squeeze out of its claw. And so as I'm gonna get down on my legs
Starting point is 01:25:30 and leap towards it, kind of the rapier blade going wide and just full on slam my fist into its eyes. and breaking past the carapace in any of the surrounding armor slide up to the elbow into the inside of its outer body as it shakes, I'm almost thrown ragdoll with it in its final throws, before eventually it falls limp on the ground. And I sit the first second breathing heavy. This will be a little gross.
Starting point is 01:26:01 I'm gonna level up now and take the chef's feet so I can cast lemon butter on whatever's left of this cooked. Immediately looking around to see if it had any campaign. any companions. Smart. Go ahead and give me a perception check. That's so cool. 16. 16.
Starting point is 01:26:16 On a 16, the edge of the light. We have, what are our dark vision ranges here? Buck 20. What's that? Buck 20, amazing. I don't have it. Same. Awesome. So you each have 120 feet of dark vision.
Starting point is 01:26:35 Incredible. Looking out and around, Julian, you do not see anything because the light only extends a certain amount of feet from this place. However, with the noise of combat, you hear rustling and clanking deeper into the darkness as the fire of the burning hands
Starting point is 01:27:03 and the embers of Arrasque. Both secede and your vision moves back from seeing in daylight to being able to see in darkness. You look around and see the bodies all throughout this space beginning to shift and move, and that energy moves from potential to actual. Damn it. Julian, you got a five.
Starting point is 01:27:32 Octus. You got a four. I did. Tell them stop. I don't think he knows yet. Well, I don't see anything. That's how I tell you. Tell them stop.
Starting point is 01:27:44 It's dead. What am I supposed to tell it? Mm-mm. And I just point into the darkness that you can't see. I don't think you're okay. I kind of just keep forgetting you don't have dark vision. Yeah, I don't have dark vision. You're creepy.
Starting point is 01:27:59 It feels like you should see. I'm looking at a scorpion. It is your turn before something really bad happens. Do you know something really bad's gonna happen? I think you look at Julian's face looking at you in the dim light of your spell and can see the paladin and druid of your party with super advanced dark vision.
Starting point is 01:28:18 You can hear the metal, right? You can hear them. Okay, that's what I was like. You see me swallow like very like. I should be real disappointed. Tell them stop. Do you want to act on your turn or delay your turn.
Starting point is 01:28:40 Oh. I don't have any way to actually have them stop. I don't know, just be like, I'll Octus to Gones. Yeah, I'm gonna yell that where my family might be. They're definitely here. Your cousin's corgi is dead on the ground. Look, I just, okay.
Starting point is 01:29:09 Looking, looking out and trying to analyze what I should do in this moment. I think what Octus does, I'm going to snap my fingers, and PIN's going to show up. Incredible. And then can I look at those pillars on either side of that doorway?
Starting point is 01:29:40 Do they look damaged at all, or they look solid? Like at the base. On either side of this doorway here? They look like they have been preserved. for a long, long time. I think the answer is kind of down the middle. It is not an effortless thing to collapse them
Starting point is 01:29:59 because they've been the main point of entry and been shored up by people here. Probably need to go that way too. So let's try and bottleneck them. Try and take positions so that when they come through, they have to condense and we can kind of pick them off as they come through the doorway. Don't let them surround us.
Starting point is 01:30:18 They undead win a fight when they can overwhelm people. With the sound of how far away they are, can I grok an amount of time we would have before getting overrun? At 120 feet of dark vision, I will go ahead and place the shapes that move from being scenery to begin to stand tall. Like I went from that way,
Starting point is 01:30:47 where I was gonna go get some. up. Shit. Oh, they're over by. I wanted to go get those. Those are the Taconas tents. Those are the Taconas tents. They are moving from over here.
Starting point is 01:30:58 There are some clustered in nearby spaces throughout. So sort of we're in the, it's less of a bottleneck and more they were coming through. No, I also thought that I was gonna try to have us go grab. You guys see this is the entry back out to the open sky. We just came in through here. I don't understand how things work. And then the entrances to like deeper into this colossal chamber.
Starting point is 01:31:24 Like your ceiling is like up here essentially, right? More figures moving from over here. Galley. Cool. Okay, okay, okay. You can stop putting them down, Brennan. That's enough. Keep coming, I'm ready.
Starting point is 01:31:42 I thought this whole map was for one, Scorpion. I can do this all day. Yeah, same. That's all day. Okay. I love it. Okay. Do we know, we don't have,
Starting point is 01:31:54 does this, is this, the little light up, is this for flare or is this, does this mean something? There is a glow coming from over at that crystal. Yes, absolutely. Oh, I didn't even see. You got time to check out. Oh yeah, you're perfectly locked. Yeah, I can't even see it.
Starting point is 01:32:07 No, I see it now if I'm moving over here. Because there's purple glow too, and I don't know if that's for dazzle. There's purple glow back here again. Is that dazzle? I know, I'm like, is this dazzle? I don't know. Is this dazzle?
Starting point is 01:32:16 Is that magic juice? What am I looking at? Great. So yes, octus. That's too many. So I see these all start reanimating around us. I'm gonna move over to take a look at that green glow there just to clock what it is.
Starting point is 01:32:30 Give me an arcana check. Is it green? That looks blue as hell. Okay, I just had to check. We're in yellow glasses. Okay, I took them off and that's still blue. But honestly noted. I bought like three wrong colors, because I shot. 18.
Starting point is 01:32:44 18. Looking at that, this, this, is alteration. You're looking at an enchantment, a sorceress enchantment placed here by the Taconas family, the defilement that Vailas fell before. I don't know if you explained that you had seen that this place was defiled, but you essentially see
Starting point is 01:33:10 that there is an area of crystal place here. That's not natural. You see it's enchanted glass and you realize that that was mind, not in the world. of Aramon. Something has been brought here from somewhere else and has been placed here such that it is, this is a sorceress commandment wrought in material enchantment in glass and crystal to do something to this place. You would need closer study to know what it is, but whatever Whatever is, whatever Tanisar was supposed to be, your family had other plans for.
Starting point is 01:34:00 It's a much bigger problem than them just being here. These crystals are part of an enchantment that my family put down. I don't have time to explain or really know what it is. Break them? I don't know. That might be worse. I don't know what they're doing. Okay.
Starting point is 01:34:22 That's going to be my turn. I don't have enough time to do anything else. Incredible. With that, the rush begins. But don't. On their turn, each of these skeletons uses this moment to animate. Their action is used to animate here.
Starting point is 01:34:47 And we're going to take some movement. Oh, did I still have my movement? Yes, you do still have your movement. Can I move towards that bridge there, that like, trying to get up there, yeah, yeah, just. Five, ten, fifteen, twenty, twenty, five, thirty gets you up here. Pin will follow you. Yeah, there we go.
Starting point is 01:35:08 And these figures are going to rush. This skeleton ascends the steps going into the dark, hovering over Dr. Tolter. Oh, oh no. She turns around and goes, ha! Oh no! I just need you to do more than just squeeze. She just cast her first big spell.
Starting point is 01:35:30 Do more than scream. You should be. Five, ten, fifteen, twenty, twenty, five, ten, fifteen, twenty, twenty five, thirty. These ones would fall in about the distance they were at before. Moving in behind. Great. You guys hear the clattering, ta-t-t-t-ta-ta.
Starting point is 01:36:16 As the dead begin to swore, towards you here. Oh. Golly. You can see them. Whatever power of death flows through this place. BarroGarde, Taconas, even some of the robed figures. All are called to one purpose now.
Starting point is 01:36:42 That is going to go back to the... This is actually going to be Dame Saramai. Oh yeah. Oh, yeah. Help! D.M. Saramai is going to five feet of movement, grabs Dr. Talter with her object interaction, and is going to rush to the base of the staircase here,
Starting point is 01:37:08 depositing the half-link at the top of the steps. Great. Fantastic. And she goes, you're coming with me! And Dr. Charles goes, and rushes away. That is going to go back to the top of the order for Dr. Talter, who goes immediately. And she is going to look at you, Julian.
Starting point is 01:37:34 And she's gonna look at you, Julian, in this moment, and go, there is a force in this world that makes whole things that were broken. You can't laugh. You are healed for two points of damage. Yeah. Good girl. Hey, Brevity.
Starting point is 01:37:59 Hey. That's her healing word spell. I appreciate the lesson. Healing word. Now stay alive. A short paragraph. Tisha, that is going to be your turn. Delightful, delightful.
Starting point is 01:38:13 And Tysha Nvel is one the same initiative, so you guys can actually go in whatever order you wish to go. Oh yeah. Do you have a thing that you want to do right away? I am, I'm ready to go whenever, whenever. Okay. I've got a big old swarm over here, so I'm gonna try to hit them. Let's go Thunderwave.
Starting point is 01:38:42 Because I can catch up in a 15 foot cube, so I think I've got like this little pocket, but not this one on the side. Not this one on the side here. So if you go to here. Okay, it made me get close. Oh no, is it not emanating from you? No, you're right.
Starting point is 01:38:55 Just calm down. You didn't right. You just have to. to move slow on skittish like Dr. Talter. The two choices you gave require you to get up close. Yeah, I know, I know. So pick your angle. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:39:09 Yeah, yeah. Put me back where I was. I didn't say I didn't want it. You just did it so quickly. Okay, so a 15 foot cube would be either these four or the, you can either get this guy or this guy. Yeah, I'm good with this. Cool.
Starting point is 01:39:28 We'll go for these four right here. Get it. Sick. Great. Go ahead and give me a con save. From all of them? Yeah. Here we go. Their constitution is worse.
Starting point is 01:39:38 Con save for them. What is your DC? Oh, sorry, 15. 15. Two succeed and two fail. Okay, the two that fail are gonna take 10 points. The two succeed take five. And the ones that fail get pushed 10 feet away. Tisha, what does it look like as you rush up?
Starting point is 01:40:08 These two are pushed 10 feet away, so boom, picked up off their feet and deposited prone back over here. What does it look like as you rush up calling upon this druidic magic? I think the moment Tysha begins to like say anything in druidic, like the sands under her feet are warm as if this was sand exposed under sunlight.
Starting point is 01:40:32 You can smell like what the desert would smell like if it was alive. And that, that idea of that idea of of like things coming violently back to life, like pushes out a burst of just sort of the memory of what this place was before it was desecrated by Tonsul's death here. So just a big scary emanation that kind of look like
Starting point is 01:40:54 you can see the desert. This world knew storms and sand, thunder and tempest, long before it knew the touch of gods or undead. That energy comes coursing out from you and throws those two animated skeletons away from you and damages the ones behind. Vailis. Are any bonus action from you? Yes. So I'm going to use the rest of my, so I've walked forward two. So the rest of my movement to move back towards where we came in. And then bonus action dash using the ability whose name I'll never remember.
Starting point is 01:41:33 Adrenaline rush. Yeah, adrenaline rush to get back and give myself two temperament I'm very HP. Great. And I'm just sort of looking. 30, back here? Yeah, but I still had movement from my original movement. Okay, yeah, yeah. So go ahead and slide me like four more back. Do you want to go back towards the gate?
Starting point is 01:41:50 Yeah. One, two, three, four. Yeah, and my eyes are on this little portal of nasty magic. If I get the go-ahead, that's where I'm going to fire next. Cool. Hell yeah. And that's me. Awesome, that's going to be Veilis. Great. Okay. Okay. Tisha's got that group pretty good.
Starting point is 01:42:10 I would love to sort of stalk over to this big group of Undead. This one coming in here? Yeah. Yeah. Because I'd love to get to a spot where I can just sort of start swinging. Yes. That's 20, 25, 30. Okay, that's as close as I can get. Gets you here, yes.
Starting point is 01:42:31 But also, let me see, because you're starting. I'm down if I go. 10, 10, 15, 20, 30. How about these guys? Sure. Will I make it there? 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 gets you here. Within 10, I'm within 10 feet of that one, guys.
Starting point is 01:42:47 Okay. I'll take it. Cool. Certainly, you can't, you pick a spot in the battlefield that you can't get swarm. You have your back to some stone in between a structure and something else. Go ahead and take your attack. Okay. Don't forget you have less. Oh, yes, that's right.
Starting point is 01:43:04 Okay. Oh, that's great. Okay, that's a natural 19. Plus is two hits. Six, so 25 again. I mean, I'm going to hit, ability checks, and saving throws. Okay. Okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:43:17 25. Go ahead and roll damage. Okay. What are you doing? Okay. That's a full 10 plus four. So 14 points of damage. Damage.
Starting point is 01:43:31 Dammage. 14 points of damage, this first skeleton going, You, boom, rib cage shattered apart effortlessly. Yes. Now here's a question, because I have the embers lit with that hit of the sensor, do they also take the 1d6 from that? They also take the 1d6 fire damage.
Starting point is 01:43:54 Oh, hell yeah, dude. So you're now dealing 1D10 plus 1D6 plus 4. Once it's a light, okay. Yeah, that's great. So that's an extra two points of. Fire damage. Or actually three, because I get the plus one bonus to attack and damage.
Starting point is 01:44:08 So an extra three with fire. Ribs shattered. Amazing. And that is your action. Do you have any bonus actions? So he's still standing? No, he's destroyed. So I can't, now that he's gone,
Starting point is 01:44:27 can I divine smite somebody else? You cannot divine smite somebody else. Got it, okay. Got it. But it's, you know, you can see, You're outputting enough damage that burning spells on these guys may not be what's needed. What's needed. Got it. Okay, great.
Starting point is 01:44:42 But you shatter through that first skeleton. Incredible. Is there another one within five feet of me that I'm not seeing? There is not another one within five feet of you that you, yeah. That is my move. That is my mouth behind you. Cool, hell yeah. Octus didn't say we couldn't do it.
Starting point is 01:44:59 I said it might be bad. Huh? Oh, the, yeah, the big glowing rock. That's one. This is why we're having problems. No, you're just right next to it. And I'm just saying if you're looking, yeah, just like on accident.
Starting point is 01:45:10 Just as see. When has your family ever not made a thing that like, it feels like there's like a bad heat. I also have a question. We don't know what they'll do. Homebrewed weapon, which is your sensor. Do you imagine that your sensor does slashing damage or bludgeoning damage?
Starting point is 01:45:30 Is it like a club or is it like a blade? I mean, I feel like it. It makes more sense of his bludgeoning. You know, sort of thing, but I like, I like, I love slashing too, but I feel like it makes more sense of the blood. You see that your sensor whip is extraordinarily effective against these skeletons. Correct answer.
Starting point is 01:45:52 Correct answer. Bludgeoning absolutely plows through this rib cage. That is going to be, yes, that's great. That is your turn. Julian, that is going to be you. Hell yeah. See, the cool thing about having a rapier is this the opposite of what yours does. Use the other shot.
Starting point is 01:46:10 Use the other side. I'm planning to. You're like, my whole thing is most people are a bag of liquid. When I poke it, the liquid comes out, and that's really bad. Actually, really quickly, bonus action. Am I within 60 feet of Octus? You are. Let's find out.
Starting point is 01:46:27 60 feet? Yes, yeah. Okay, I'm gonna shoot out a shield of faith. Oh, such two to AC. Yay. Easy for Octus, incredible. A little guy. Gorgeous. Julian, that is your goal. Yeah, all right.
Starting point is 01:46:40 Hearing all the sound of them clamoring over, watching a few of them begin to rush, watch you blast back a bunch of them and then dart off towards the gate there. Valis runs over and shatters one just out of sight and hearing all the sound of them approaching. It's like, all right, tactically find the right places to go. I think given how things are at the moment,
Starting point is 01:47:07 tactically, Julian kind of makes a choice and it's going to go ahead and take his 30 feet of movement to get alongside that one there and try to hold that pinch point of the ones that are rushing in. Do you want to go, so you have, that's 20 feet of movement right there. Right, if I can go one and then angle that way, so my back's kind of against that stone right there, actually.
Starting point is 01:47:27 Hell yeah. Other direction. Oh, sorry, other direction. You want to get over here. In other words. Or do you want to get closer to Phelis? I want to get up to. Yeah, right against there. Great. You got it.
Starting point is 01:47:36 Cool, cool. So if any, then try and rush through, I might have to. Gotcha, got you. Yes, I see what you're doing. Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure. So rushing forward, rapier as it is, looking, first thing I'm going to ask, are they all skeletal?
Starting point is 01:47:49 Yes, you see that whatever necrotic forces pulsing through this place that we sensed earlier, it has rapidly decomposed these bodies. So there are none that aren't chunky or meaty. Oh, no juices. Julian says, he says, little blessings says he is unable to recognize any of these bodies. rushing up with his blade out.
Starting point is 01:48:11 He's gonna go ahead and sweep forward with the rapier to try and strike across the middle area where the spinal column keeps it affixed to the hip to whatever hope it might be for his first strike to the one in front of him. Go for it. That's gonna be 24 to hit. 24 is a hit, yes.
Starting point is 01:48:29 That's going to be, four plus four, eight points of piercing damage. As eight points of piercing damage goes through, you see that they are, they don't appear have resistance to this. But you're very quickly, it's bludging appears extra effective, not that piercing is ineffective. Okay. I think you adjust your style quickly.
Starting point is 01:48:48 This rapier, which normally is all at the point, you just see a spinal column and take the blade at maximum heft into that bone trying to sever it. All righty. Eight damage. Eight damage with that one, and then following that up with bonus action, after the blade cuts through, using the momentum, I sort of spin around,
Starting point is 01:49:08 and like a full 360 turn, using the momentum as the cloak spins to get the massive punching gauntlet just right into the side of the skull of the same skeleton in front of me with advantage because of the vex from the rapier. Let's go. That's good, 22 to hit on this one.
Starting point is 01:49:25 22 is a hit. Go ahead and roll damage. Is sneak attack for the advantage on this one? You do. Alrighty. Great. That's eight. Ten points of bludgeoning damage from the secondary hit. The gauntlet proves a much better weapon as you're going through with it,
Starting point is 01:49:41 just a big metal hand grabbing through and ripping bone out of this animated skeleton destroyed in front of you. As the bones like scatter and it falls to the ground, I look back and make eye contact with the veil of this with my back to the back of the stone and be like, we have to hold these points. We will.
Starting point is 01:49:55 We got each other? Yeah. Let's go. Seeing an entire half of the, yeah, just, who, whoa, whoa, spinning fire. Julian back to this with a narrow channel in front of you that they cannot pass through
Starting point is 01:50:08 without taking those attacks on opportunity. That's my true. Boom, we move down initiative, Octus. That is you before the wave hits. Brough. Okay. You could have said that different. But I chose nothing to.
Starting point is 01:50:23 Notting. Or it's mean things. Okay. That is the spell work. Not me. Oh. Brow, I'm out here still looking up blessed because I get nervous and I forget.
Starting point is 01:50:44 Okay. Okay. What? So what we're gonna do here is. Is there so little. Yeah, it's no longer. Okay. It's attacks and saves.
Starting point is 01:50:59 Oh. Crawl at table here. I'm trying to see behind the, okay, there's that many over there. All right, I think what Octus is going to do, I'm going to, where? He walks, oh, can I get, can I get to. To, to.
Starting point is 01:51:15 To. Yeah. I'm like, oh, you could be wherever. Going around this wooden plank area here, can I get to this zombie or whatever it is, the skeleton on the side here? Yeah, let's see. 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 is there.
Starting point is 01:51:30 Yeah. I can't get to anyone really, I don't think. So what I'll do is I will, I guess for this turn, I am gonna move over there to that kind of roundabout that side. Five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30. Great. And I think there I will, Yeah, I'm just gonna go and throw a firebolt at this point
Starting point is 01:51:49 because it's not, because I can't get up to do what I want to do. So, yeah, go ahead and just do that. That is a 13 to hit. No, sorry, that is a 19 to hit. 19 is a hit. Did you add your, yeah. Yeah, I added the bus, yeah. That was with the 10 and the three.
Starting point is 01:52:08 I was like, ah, 13. Yeah. I do that all the time. I'm gonna D10 for two image. the sum of the last two nights I've seen. Hey, all right, I love that. I love a 10. So, it just winds up and this sort of green light kind of spirals out and then flies off front,
Starting point is 01:52:27 creating this green, sort of larger willow wisp than the ones that he's had up for light and slams into that skeleton there doing 10 points of fire damage. Sort of a William of Wills. 10 points of fire damage to the one closest to you? Yeah, the one closest to me. Great. 10 points of fire damage, as the fire bolt hits,
Starting point is 01:52:45 it's going to, it's going to be. You see the heat seems less effective than the concussive force of the blast that shatters through ribs, pulverizing bone. And that is your action. I'm going to go ahead and have PIN move up next to me as well. Actually, I'll leave PIN where he is there next to the doctor. Okay. That's my, I don't have a bonus action to do, so that will be my turn. As you see the firebolt escapes from you,
Starting point is 01:53:16 this stone glows bright. And you see as these figures rush, change their plan of attack and are going to rush up towards you. Oh, what? What did they say? 1520. He said, Oh yeah, got it, got it.
Starting point is 01:53:41 Do you speak dusty ass mouth? I only took Elfish. Let's do it. You can't wait laughing. That's such a good one. Fliuant. I am ever Ashley's monkey. I love it.
Starting point is 01:54:00 Do the sound. Do the sound. Do that little sound you do. As I see all those were me, I'm learning, I'm learning, I'm learning, thanks. They're worried about fire. Over here, you see, you see, two close with Dame Saramai,
Starting point is 01:54:20 who as they rush up towards her, she, rather than waiting to anticipate their strike, they get about five feet away and she lunges shield up, bam, their swords come over to the side and she closes them with combat. You see that these ones over here are gonna rush you. These two get up from prone badly injured. Some of the ones attacking you are also quite badly injured here.
Starting point is 01:54:44 Only two are gonna take swings on you, What is your AC currently? 18. With the shield of faith, correct? Hell yeah. That is two hits. Hell, let's go. Damn.
Starting point is 01:54:55 Boo! You take nine points of damage and four points of damage from two separate attacks. Any concentration we need to be worried about here. I do need to make a concentration check for the dancing lights. Okay. Natural one, they fail. Lights go out. Julian and D.M. Serra Mai are fighting in the dark.
Starting point is 01:55:17 Cool. But does Julian have just Julian have a lot? have a little more light because of the universe? That puts out. Heat lamp. That is correct. 10 feet and then dim 10 after that. Okay, which means you have 20 feet.
Starting point is 01:55:30 So let's see if Julian's got it. Yes, your light reaches Julian from where you are standing. So Julian, you're actually fighting in the dark with the space in front of you that you're fighting in. The space you're attacking is lit. This is a terrifying perspective. All I see is just this spinning arc of dull ember and shadows and the cracks.
Starting point is 01:55:49 of bone and metal getting louder. You're just like, John Hamm in the like friends and neighbors race. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Where you are, Julian, is you have to put yourself into shadow to see where you are fighting towards, but what that means is anyone approaching from your right will come at you out of the darkness.
Starting point is 01:56:08 Yes. Great. That's how I get. But. Incredible. Just pooping a little. Pooping a little. Pooping a little. All the time.
Starting point is 01:56:18 So we can find you if we need. You need you. A little trail, focal puffs in the sand. You need to drink more water, you put like rabbit. He's up to clean up this way. This guy's gonna close. A fair point. He's a good soldier.
Starting point is 01:56:33 I'm glad you're teaching my son. I told you. There are many things. Wow, you really made it all the way over, didn't you? Tisha, this one has no action left, but just is rushing. Gag, ghkkkak! Bold. Wants to make it happen.
Starting point is 01:56:47 Well, good for him. These two are gonna rush here, one, two, and they're gonna take their swings on Bayless. Bailas, what's your arm across? 16. 16. I'm so sorry. That's two hits and a crit. You're gonna have to roll a lot of concentration.
Starting point is 01:57:06 Okay. Sliminy Christmas. Well, hold on, don't I have like a. But the crit is snake eyes, so that's five damage on the crit. Okay. And then six damage and five damage. So, 16? 16, yeah, 16 damage altogether.
Starting point is 01:57:25 Okay. That's all slashing. Great. So, and I'm gonna need three Constitution saving throws, all of which are DC-10. Okay. To hold that, the shield of faith. The shield of faith. Okay, so.
Starting point is 01:57:41 That's a fail. That's a five. Okay. Plus. Five, plus your constitution. Five. Oh, five. Plus your Constitution savings are a modifier.
Starting point is 01:57:52 Yeah, that's five, total. Five, no. Spell drops, you lose the shield of faith. As the wave hits of the undead, you have come to a Barodale, a cursed region of the world. You've come looking for trouble and friends, you have found what you sought. I think that's what I said I was looking for,
Starting point is 01:58:16 but okay. Okay. Good strategic place. Good strategic placement wastes the turn of at least two of these skeletons who cannot close past their allies to this choke point you've chosen, Vailas. And rather than running all the way around, they just see fire and a living being and they are rushing.
Starting point is 01:58:35 I just try to keep them coming towards me. These ones are going to rush Julian. This one, one, two, three, four is going to attempt to rush past you towards Tisha and you're gonna get that attack of opportunity. I will, all right. I'm going to go seeing how effective the gauntlet was, I'm going to attempt to just reach out
Starting point is 01:58:54 and grab at its skull as it goes by with my demi-gontlet. Cool. You go. That's going to be 15? 15's a hit. All right. That'll be six points of bludgeoning damage. Hell yes. Raking at the bone, you chip its skull as it rushes past.
Starting point is 01:59:12 All right. And that is going to be, da-da-da. That is now going to be this wave of them back here. One. No, I can keep going if it wants to. I don't like stop it in its path. Sorry.
Starting point is 01:59:25 What's that? That's cool. Same, the one that I hit, I can keep going to go in if it wants. So that one is going to close with Tisha using its full movement. 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30. We'll enter the light over here.
Starting point is 01:59:39 And this one will move, actually, out here, into the dark to give flanking to its allies. Of course. Um, I'm gonna roll with advantage here. Armour class, 16. That's a hit. That's a hit. Let's go. That's a miss.
Starting point is 02:00:07 Okay. You take 16 points of slashing damage. Are you still up? Oh yes. Don't say, oh, golly. I am. Colley, Gwillingers. I am bloodied.
Starting point is 02:00:25 That is the skeleton's turn, as they have closed. So from all this casting of spells, fire, thunder, suddenly you down the ones you can and then, and just bone and steel, going to work sawing at you as quickly as possible. The end of that is going to be game Saramai.
Starting point is 02:00:54 She's gonna take her swings here. And it's going to hit one of them on her for 10 points of damage. We're gonna go back to the top. Dr. Talter. Oh no. The good doctor. The good doctor?
Starting point is 02:01:15 Just keep bless up, baby girl. You're fine. Yeah, she's got bless up. That's true. She is actively contributing. Oh, oh. Honestly, she's gonna use her last spell. She looks around and it's not concentration.
Starting point is 02:01:35 She drops to her knees and cast sanctuary on herself. Yeah, good. She drops down on this plank as she looks at pin next to her. It goes, ah! Just seeing an undead creature. She just keeps screaming. And goes, it just goes. Love her.
Starting point is 02:01:52 There is a force that permeates all things, and should it be willing, it would be greatly appreciated by a creature of this universe blessed with sapiens to perceive said force to please not be hurt. And that's going to be Tysha and Vales. Sweet. You want to go? Yeah, I would love to. Not you.
Starting point is 02:02:20 Sure. Okay. I'm gonna just keep swinging. Let's do it. Keep swinging. Here we go. Co-opting Murray's accent. Remember you add that D4 for Blass as well.
Starting point is 02:02:34 Weiss. Boise. Okay. A 12 is sadly not going to be a hit. All right, that's okay. Bands. Bims. Damn.
Starting point is 02:02:53 Okay. Let me just see if there's There's something else I can do for some reason? There's lay on hands, so you could heal, you could potentially heal yourself. There's also Hunter's Mark, and you could put up Stilda Faith again, but that's burning through a lot of spells for sure.
Starting point is 02:03:12 Well, that's okay. Do you have your, is it, Val, right? I do. I'm feeling like I was saving it, but I don't know why. I was saving it because I feel like, yeah, these are nothing. You're not really fine. You're really gonna survive, it's fine.
Starting point is 02:03:26 Show the faith again. I'm doing great. On Octus. You put Shield of Faith on Octus again. You have Shield of, actually. 11 hit points. Buh. However.
Starting point is 02:03:36 Is he still in? He is no longer within 60 feet. Okay, so you know what I'm? You have Julian within range, and I think you also have Tisha within range. But I like the danger. Yeah, okay. And also saving your spell slots
Starting point is 02:03:51 is also not a bad. Yeah. That's my move. Cool. It's kind of land, but that's it. That's what you got. Julian. Oh, sorry, Tisha, it's gonna be you.
Starting point is 02:04:00 Sweet. Can I consider something as a bonus action? Sure. What's up with this goddamn light? I wanna know if I kill it. Will I, like, can I figure out a connection between this light and possibly the animation of these corpses? I think that they're a big,
Starting point is 02:04:21 like I think this is a big necromanic space heater that's making all the stuff around here come back to life. And I feel like, I would glance not just at like the guys right in front of me, but like, does dead Scorpion look like it's getting raised by the blue light? Jittery again? Yeah. Give me a nature check.
Starting point is 02:04:39 Cool. Ooh, wait, I can do that. I do that. Golly, 12. 12. Don't see any jitters from Scorpion. Don't see any jitters from Scorpion. You can't piece together this Taconis
Starting point is 02:04:57 magic here while fighting the undead. I think on a 12, though, what I can say is the big necromanic battery theory. If you had a theory, the Taconas were not designing this as a video game level. So being like, wait a minute, I think there might be a one-punch solution to this. They factored that in and they made it an absolutely
Starting point is 02:05:22 enormous rock. And so, So it's like, yeah, if anyone's got the rock killing spell, fucking fire that bad boy off. Do you know the name of this piece of shit and you can make it die? I think I do and I'm just gonna show Laley the guy in front of me. I'm being bitten in three places.
Starting point is 02:05:40 I don't know the name of this. I said I didn't, I'm sorry. The charge of that spell hasn't come back yet. 30 to hit. 30 hits. We, right. 30 to hit. That was crazy.
Starting point is 02:05:55 Damn. for nine points of bludgeoning damage. One of the ones here has already been injured by your thunder wave and chased you all across the map to come find you, nine points of damage does it. Describe what it was like as the Loystaff comes to bear. Yeah, I think in her hand, like it just, again, it's glowing with so much life energy
Starting point is 02:06:15 that like the swing through looks like that like heat haze in the desert and you just see the after image of what this uncorrupted desert would look like. in the follow-through as she cracks this thing open. Hell yeah. Sundered before you. That is going to be. In my movement.
Starting point is 02:06:37 You got one. No, I'm not going anywhere. We're just gonna face down these idiots. That's cool. You got one on you still, yeah. Vailas, that is going to be you. Oh no, sorry, you just went. I apologize, yes, yes.
Starting point is 02:06:50 Go again. I know, I was like, I mean, I'll take it. I'll take it. Julian, that's gonna be here. Sure. All right, well, this is how it is. I'm gonna say this moment, like Julian can taste the blood in his mouth from like the heavy impact
Starting point is 02:07:09 of one of these battered shields of one of his previous likely students, kind of hitting in the jaw. He can sense the darkness around him and that little bit of a red trickled grin curls across his face. I guess it's time to get used to wading into the cold, huh? Ever going deeper? And he looks up to the dark shadows beyond deeper in the temple
Starting point is 02:07:37 before focusing back on the nearby skeletons and goes, Let's dance, shall we? If I can, I'm going to go ahead and use my writing the edge. Hell yes. I'm going to choose this moment to... Level up. Level up. Let's do it.
Starting point is 02:07:57 Let's go. Well edging action. Yeah, did you just level up by edging? Yeah. More less, yeah. Yeah. That's pretty great. Any of us do.
Starting point is 02:08:06 It's true. I'm so close to leveling up. You know that's bad for you? One more day. One more day. That's not sand on the battlefield. Ah! You.
Starting point is 02:08:23 Exactly. Yeah. Thank you. Great, we are riding the edge. So, so sorry. So as in Go, I'm going to choose Warrior, a fighter, to go into the next level. This will lead me into choosing the subclass,
Starting point is 02:08:41 which is the Daredevil subclass. Which is built for Julian in this instance. That's great because you can't see in the dark. Yep, it's art. It's great. Knock that kind of devil. So as part of this, while I'm bloodied, My second win feature gives me temporary hit points
Starting point is 02:08:57 instead of restoring hit points, not necessarily a benefit per se. So with that, that's gonna, all right, six plus two, that gives me eight temporary hit points, give me a little bit more of a buffer there. Oh wait, yeah. Did you take, you took it in Fighter? Yeah.
Starting point is 02:09:12 You got eight hit points. Eight hit points? Yeah. All right, so. Oh, that was your bigger one. Yeah, thank you. You rolled two on your rogue die. They didn't wanna tell you. Oh, sorry, you get 12 hit points.
Starting point is 02:09:23 My bad. You rolled eight on the die, plus, Yes, your con. Total of 12. 12, and I have tough as a feat, so that's an additional two. Hell yeah, dude. Okay. Wow. All right, it's nice. 12, 14.
Starting point is 02:09:35 God, I love tough. So, so much. So you just leveled up? I did it, yes. Cool, level up. The CR rating of his combat dramatically. As, I'll say this, as you get these temporary hit points and get the new hit points of leveling up,
Starting point is 02:09:52 you were at 18 hit points, bloodied, and the skeletons bearing down on you as you find a deeper wellspring of power, not one that seeks to avoid dying, actually one that seeks to plunge head first into peril and in so doing truly live. Before you take your action, you see the grim faces of the dead, and as you ready to charge once more
Starting point is 02:10:26 to death's door itself, we will throw it a break. Oh, yeah! You come back and whip some ass after the break. We'll see you then. And that's where we'll leave our story for now. Part two of this episode of Campaign 4 drops this Tuesday. Thanks for listening, and we'll see you soon for more Critical Role.
