And so I started at that point in my life.
I have a lot more failures, as you see in that book.
But I started down the road of instead of the path of least resistance,
I started choosing the path of most resistance to prepare myself for the journey that was coming my way.
Wow.
You cannot look at it as failure.
Even though you didn't get what you wanted, all you're doing is examining ways to become successful at this particular thing.
you're trying to master something.
It's not failure.
You're trying to become the master
of a particular thing.
It's not failing.
Whenever you're trying to master something,
there's a process.
To fix shit, people want to find peace
immediately.
This is where people don't like me.
I don't believe that shit.
You ain't going to find it through fucking yoga
and all this other bullshit.
I stretch out a lot and I believe in yoga.
All this shit's great,
but you ain't can find it in some fucking room.
You're going to find it.
peace from going to war with yourself.
Because we all got shit.
We all got shit. People look at me.
The reason of my story resonates with
people, because I don't hide.
I'll tell exactly who the fuck
I am. I will admit to it.
People are great at hiding.
So they want to just find peace. No, you got to take
your shit, fix what they're just fucked up
in you. Don't just shove it on the rug.
Fix it. And then you'll find some peace later.
And that's the mentality I took with me.
And what happened through that process
was all the frivolous things.
things of life start to float away.
I have to tell people lies so they would like me.
Because I was so insecure.
When you start to build yourself up and start to have the one thing that we don't have
is confidence.
Yeah.
Real authentic confidence from hard work.
So my challenge has come off of, what am I afraid of?
What am I kind of cowering from?
What am I looking at saying, mm-mm.
Because we all know what it is.
It's in the back of your mind.
It kind of floats back there.
It's like, you know, for some of us,
it's the simple as I don't want to get up and run today.
That's what's next.
So for me, it's always, what am I not wanting to do?
And that's how I continue to grow.
I think I'm the world's toughest motherfucker ever.
And I might be somewhere about that now,
but that's where I was.
And I tell the story because if I just talk about,
I broke the pull-up record,
I did all these fucking races.
I went through Siltra.
I was in three hell weeks,
Ranger School.
If I talk about all the badassery,
like we like to do on social fucking media,
and I don't tell you that I was a fucked up kid
and I was scared of shit
and I was depressed and insecure
and all this shit,
what good am I for anybody?
I'm a superhero, but I'm a liar.
I'm not now, but I wasn't born that.
I had to make myself,
of into this shit. I invented this thing called the cookie jar when I was growing up.
You know how your mom fucking, well my mom, we were real poor and she would go by and get
these fucking cheap ass cookies from all these and like 50-scent cookies and she would just dump
them in this cookie jar. So sometimes you're reaching the cookie jar and you pull out a
fucking mint cookie. Maybe a chuck of chitter, maybe a peanut, maybe a peanut butter.
So my cookie jar is we forget how badass we are and hard to.
times. And that cookie jar, look as a fortune cookie. You're reaching that motherfucker, you pull out
a fortune cooking. You read it. What we do in life is we've all gone through suffering. We've all
gone through hard times and we've made it. But when you're in the midst of suffering, what our
mind does is this. You think about the now and there's no strength in it. God, I'm going through
cancer. I'm going through this. I'm going through that. What I've learned to do in hard times is take a step
back, give myself, it's called my one second decision. Take a step back before I want to quit something,
before something gets hard, say hang on there. You tell yourself how to swim, how to read and write.
You went through three fucking Navy Steel Hell Weeks. You went through Rangers School. We went to Delta
Force selection twice. You've run 200 miles. You run 256 miles. You've done 4,000. Those are cookies.
When you're running fucking a 7K while we laugh about it, it's all relative. And you're fucking hurting.
you've had cancer three fucking times
and you're here
it's a big fucking cookie man
so you're reaching your fucking mental cookie jar
you pull that motherfucker out and you read it
lost my brother
cancer not once
not twice
three times
I'm still fucking here
and I'll know the rest of your life
that's just a snippet of what I fucking know
so that's what I do when times get hard
As I remind myself, I'm a bad motherfucker.
Nothing's permanent.
Nothing's permanent.
That's why I'm always big on, you have to keep what you want to be in the front of your mind.
Because you're going to always lose it within the suffering.
And suffering, people always hear me say suffering.
It's not just physical, man.
There's so many forms of suffering out here.
It's not even funny.
And most of them are not physical.
Most of them are psychological.
So I'm going through this race.
I get to Miles 200 on my second Moab, and I'm doing well, but I'm in extreme pain, man.
My fucking ass is raw.
My damn feet are broken.
I have six layers of tape on my...
It's just...
I'm jacked, man.
I have 40 miles to go.
I'm having this woe as me while the fuck am I out here.
I'm at high elevation.
I can't breathe real well.
Everything's wrong.
When you've gone that deep inside yourself,
and all those feelings of pain that I'm...
I had. I was in the worst pain of my life ever. And some people would think, man, you're just crazy.
No, when you've done that and you've figured out so much on your own and all that pain in this comfort of
having that tub laying there passing out everything was confirmation of what I just figured out.
I just figured out the code. I figured out a code. A code. A cold. A cold. A cold.
that many people aren't looking for.
And I wanted to be known.
I want that feeling.
This was confirmation.
This was like a scientist's notes.
The notes were here.
The notes were all this feeling.
There was a confirmation.
And no one at that time could understand what I had just done.
I cracked the code to human potential in myself.
What happens is when I was younger, life in society,
made this big world with all these endless fucking possibilities.
Inless possibilities.
My life made my possibilities this fucking big.
Because it made me afraid of all these different things.
So all this stuff trapped my mind.
It shackled my brain.
It made me a prisoner within my own self,
saying, this is all I can do.
Because why?
I'm afraid of this.
I'm insecure over here.
I got self down over here.
Bat behind me.
Good Lord.
Who knows what's behind me?
I'm like, look behind me.
So your life is this big
versus it being like I can do all this shit out here
If I start to break down these ball
You know these these these different walls and barriers
And that's what I started realizing
I could become a Navy SEAL
I could become this but
I was afraid of the water
Think about this
Why the fuck are you going to go be a Navy SEAL
When all you do is playing the water
For and we don't play
We're in it and we're living in it
You're tying down if you're swimming for miles
That's right the ocean is unforgiving
So my mind is I'm going to go be a Navy SEAL.
If I didn't face that fear, no one would ever know me.
So that's when I started gravitating towards like the Crawfords,
the people like that that are in the book,
just the normal everyday Jones.
But they're not normal everyday Jones.
What these guys had was courage, character, commitment, discipline.
These are things that every human being can work on on their own.
You don't need talent.
You need discipline.
I said, man, I have that.
So I started gravitate more towards the everyday person that went way beyond.
They went to that blue to black line I talked about in the book.
That blue to black line will you reach greatness.
And I started realizing that's what I can do.
I cannot work a motherfucker.
I can outwork everybody.
That's what it takes.
I can't dunk.
But over here,
everything that I want is over here in this fucking pile of shit
hard work dedication sacrifice
I can do that
I can do that all fucking day long
I can get up at 3 o'clock in the morning
I cannot work you
that's where I found greatness over there
life is one big mind game
and you're playing it with yourself
is it true I don't care
it got me through the hardest training
starting out broken
Where most people quit, I had just started.
And when you take that mindset and you learn to flip that around,
that's what made me powerful.
And my body followed.
And three months later, my stress fractures were healed by running on them.
Calcifying it, just like.
I never had them since.
I'm 43 years old.
Wow.
I ran 7,000 miles in 2007, having had a stress.
fractures since and I'm not saying to do that I'm just saying that when the mind and the body
connect and you didn't and you don't give yourself a way out the only way out for me at that time
was death I'm going to be a Navy seal no one really gives a fuck you have to continue to
fucking live your life or you can choose to be doomed and become a statistic like a lot of young
people who fall back on their childhood when their childhood wasn't good.
He never said to any of this, though.
It was through his actions by not feeling sorry for me by how he worked me like a dog,
that it came to me that this is what life is.
Life is a, it's a training ground.
And like going through Buds and Ranger School, very few people make it through.
While you may live a long life, it doesn't mean you fucking graduated.
at the top of the class.
You just lived a long, boring, despicable life.
And that's not what I wanted to do.
Get to Wednesday of Hell Week, you're broken.
So everybody on Wednesday, it starts on Sunday,
ends on Friday, and on Wednesday, you're almost done.
You're halfway through.
So everybody on Wednesday, they hear this.
Because everybody says Wednesday is like, man, you're so tired, you're done.
So that becomes your new norm.
Yeah.
No.
You're cruising into Wednesday, getting ready to feel tired when you don't even know why.
someone told you you could feel tired.
So for me, I was like, hang on a second.
I started studying my mind a whole bunch while growing up,
basing these things.
Don't listen to anybody's fucking dialogue but your own.
They're tired.
They're not you.
So it's just all about,
it's just your mind has a tactical advantage over you at all times.
It knows your weaknesses.
It knows your strengths.
And it will guide you into your nice comfort zone.
We have to reprogram our mind to get a different vantage point
so then you know how to be in charge of yourself.
versus your mind being in charge of you.
Who I was, I was this nobody guy, and I created this Goggins.
And that Goggins, there's David Goggins and there's Goggins.
David Goggins is a calm, cool guy that sits back.
Used to be a, you know, weak kid.
Now he's just a normal guy.
Gagins is a guy that is willing to tape up his legs to go after it.
In that book, you read about David Gagins and also Gagins.
what I realized in my life
is that
Gagins is who I love
Gagins is who I created
my dad created
David Gagins
I created Gagins
so what's happened with me
and since
Can't hurt me came out
and since I got on social media
which is why I fucking don't like social media
which is why I'm not on there very much
which I give people one time
I have to
to do me.
I have to do me.
So people get it fucking twisted, man.
I am who I am.
What's in that book is me.
So now what they see
is this guy who's trying to get
people to get off their fucking ass.
That just happened to happen, man.
I didn't set out.
When I set out to be a fucking seal
and set out to go to Ranger School and go all this or shit I did
and break records, I didn't set out
to fucking please motherfuckers.
I didn't set out to say,
hey pay me now I got a great fucking story
fuck that and I realize now that my life has kind of gotten to a point where people know me
I have followers and whatnot you have to make a list of the things that you don't like to do
this list should be very long like if you don't like making calls the very first thing you should do
is start making a shit ton of fucking calls because why that begins to own you
you start to drive yourself this way versus this way
But you'll figure out, if you start making a whole bunch of fucking calls, if you like calling, call a lot.
Guess what happens?
You get over it.
You get over it.
So what we do a lot is, I heard a lot people say, triple down on this, triple down on most of your strength.
No, no, no, no, no.
That works for a lot of things.
But when you're afraid and you don't have the courage, you have to triple down on your weaknesses.
And make that become where you start to guide yourself.
Okay, I don't like calling.
Today I'm making 100 calls.
Yeah.
I'm going to dial 100 times.
