Daily Motivations - I WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN

Episode Date: November 13, 2021

Some people dream of success, while other people get up every morning and make it happen. Infuse your life with action. Don't wait for it to happen. Make it happen. Make your own future. Make your own... hope. Make your own love. And whatever your beliefs, honor your creator, not by passively waiting for grace to come down from upon high, but by doing what you can to make grace happen... yourself, right now, right down here on Earth. BidMGM operates pursuant to an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. You know, sometimes you get that feeling in life that things aren't going my way. You hear people say that. Things aren't going my way right now. Listen, things just don't go your way. That's not the way the world works.
Starting point is 00:00:48 You gotta make them go your way. Taking responsibility for whatever happens to you. Knowing that you have consciously made the decisions that are now affecting you. Knowing that what is happening now, the direct result of your activity, what you did yesterday, self-reliance is basically counting on yourself. Recognize the fact that you're going to get into some slumps. Recognize the fact that you're going to encounter a great deal of failure in life. It goes with the territory.
Starting point is 00:01:25 But in the face of that, you want to be relentless. You think things are going to just happen for you? Well, they're not just going to happen for you. You got to make them happen. Go make things happen. I need you to confront you because you don't want holding you up. I need you to confront you. I need you to look in the mirror and tell you you are not gonna do me like this no more you give you a pass you are not where you supposed to be financially
Starting point is 00:01:53 and you gave yourself a pass you know you better than that you know you should be further in life but you keep letting you slide it's time you punish you from now on you're not gonna hold any other human more accountable than you hold yourself. Many doors will be closed in your face. Many loans that you will want. They'll say, no, you don't have enough collateral. You don't have enough credit.
Starting point is 00:02:18 And most people will give up. But you've got to decide that I'm going to be filled. I refuse to be denied. And I'm going to be filled. I refuse to be denied. And I'm going to go all out. I'm going to be relentless. I don't care how many no's I encounter. I like something Isaiah Thomas said when he was getting ready for a basketball game. He said, I'm going to either shoot us in or shoot us out.
Starting point is 00:02:40 But I'm not going to not do anything. And that's the way to go. I had no advantages but I woke up one day and realized all men are created for how mean no I'm my advantage you your advantage why are you waiting for somebody to call you why are you waiting for somebody to affirm you why are you waiting for somebody tell you got a dream or go why are you waiting for somebody take you by your hand and give you what's rightfully yours. Rise up and aggressively move forward down the path.
Starting point is 00:03:14 Get yourself in the game. Shut down all those pathetic excuses and get after it. Now there is a time to let your mind wander, but it's a time you designate specifically for that purpose. At that appointed time, you can go off for that walk on the beach or that drive to the mountains, away from business. Let the breezes blow and your mind soar. Do some dreaming. That's healthy. But do it at that pre-planned time. At all other tasks, concentrate. Another aspect of managing goals and time is constant review. There's just no way to keep on target with your priorities without this.
Starting point is 00:04:09 Whether it's business goals, personal goals, family goals or investment goals, they must all be reviewed to see if you are on track, which is all the more reason for writing them down. Careful goal setting could be the time management answer you've been looking for. Goals well defined and well described and well thought out make us look carefully at the time we have and how to get the most from it to make all of our dreams come true. The answers to do better come from the necessity to do better.
Starting point is 00:04:54 You will undoubtedly be amazed at the ideas you can come up with for the use of your time when goals and purpose have you stimulated to the maximum. Now, there is a last main point to consider. You won't get everything you want. What a statement to make after studying how to get whatever you want. But you won't get everything you want. And the reason is, it's not that kind of planet. Sometimes it's going to hail on your crop and rain on your parade. I'm sure you are very well aware of this.
Starting point is 00:05:28 But in my opinion, if you work the system I've just shared with you, you will get more than plenty. More often than not, you will get what you want. Now, if you don't know this quote, live by it. One can have no smaller or greater mastery than mastery over oneself. That's Da Vinci. Da Vinci did amazing things with his life. I wanted to do equally amazing things with mine. And if that's the game that we're playing, if I can
Starting point is 00:05:50 construct my belief system, if I can choose at any moment to believe something that's more empowering than I was believing the moment before, and that that will actually find its way into my actions, allow me to do things that I couldn't do the moment before, then it's like that moment in the matrix where Nia realizes he knows Kung Fu. And that's like, as funny as that is, that's how I think about life. To me, the very fundamental purpose of life is to find out how many skills I can acquire that have utility and then put that utility to the test in service of something greater than myself. How many skills can I acquire that have utility, put that utility to the test in service of something greater than myself? That is for me the purpose of life. Now, I don't actually want to know Kung Fu. That is not the mission that I'm here to live.
Starting point is 00:06:53 But I knew that I had to identify my mission. So what was going to be my mission? Mother Teresa has an amazing quote. Nobody will act for the many, but people will act for the one. And that really struck me because I realized they were right. I was looking at this global pandemic of ill health and I wasn't moving into action. But thinking about my mom and my sister or the uncle I had who ate himself to death when I was 12 years old, that made me want to act.
Starting point is 00:07:30 Connecting increases your influence in every situation. For the foundation of the teaching today, I want to make sure that we really have a grasp of why connecting with people is so vital. So if you go to the very first sentence in your note, the number one criteria for advancement and promotion for professionals is an ability to communicate effectively. That I do believe. I think the ability to connect and communicate is the number one criteria for success with your family,
Starting point is 00:08:00 with your marriage, with your children, with your friends, in the workplace, the marketplace, in the workplace, the marketplace, in the community. If you have the ability to connect with people, if you can communicate and connect, not just communicate, it takes you and literally gives you and I a decided edge over others in the advancement of what we're trying to accomplish. For example, in your notes, presidential historian Robert Dalek says that successful presidents exhibit five skills and qualities that enable them to achieve things that others don't. So he's talking about leaders and presidents and people. What makes some achieve better than others? Here's the five things they do well number one is vision number two pragmatism
Starting point is 00:08:47 number three consensus building the ability to put together a team and get consensus number four charisma and number five trustworthiness being a trustworthy kind of a person. Now, what is interesting about these five things that set the better presidents apart from maybe the average ones, four of the five deal with connecting. Vision is definitely a connecting skill. The ability to cast a future vision. Consensus building, getting people to work together.
Starting point is 00:09:28 You have to be able to connect to do that. Charisma, of course. That's why people follow the quote, the Pied Piper, and trustworthy. Four of the five of the skills needed to be successful as a leader had a lot to do with connecting. So let me define connecting, because that's what this book is all about. Connecting is the ability to identify with until we, because of that ability, we begin to increase our influence with them. And of course, what do I teach about leadership? Very simple. Leadership is influence. Every single day, I would have a pre-show meeting and have the producers come in and state to me what is your intention how do we
Starting point is 00:10:29 want to use whoever is on this show whatever is happening on this show to serve the audience in a way that fulfills the mission of uplifting enlight encouraging, as well as entertaining. And if it doesn't do that, then I can't do it. Thanks for listening. Kindly support the movement of this podcast by supporting us or subscribing to our premium content for more exclusive stuff.
