Well, you think darkness is your ally. You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it. If you pan it down here, you cease about 3 o'clock in the morning, and there's not a car or a person in sight. There's not a motherfucker that's up.
Starting point is 00:00:48 There's not a car. There's not a person. Everybody's in their bed, sleep, dreading that it's a Monday. Hate it's a Monday. I'm loving that. Where everybody's getting weaker, I'm getting stronger. It's not about the running. to swim in, the push up to sit-ups.
Starting point is 00:01:03 It's about what those things do for your mentality. You don't get better on the daggone couch. You get better by coming out here and getting the fuck after it every daggone day. I know what darkness looks like. I know what it feels like to be alone with no motivation,
Starting point is 00:01:20 no drive, no passion. And what has to come out of your fucking soul in the darkest of times is what you just did right now. there but if you are able to get up every morning have no passion no drive no motivation no shit and still get up with that kind of fire you will be successful in life i guarantee you that whenever i'm down like oh hang on motherfucker oh you know you know the truth you know the truth you know the darkness of the fucking dungeons and the fucking demons that fly you know and then from there it's like okay
Starting point is 00:01:57 you were there you know this there was no one there to pick up the rucksack, to pick up the boat, to pick up the log, to go in that. It was you. There wasn't no pat on the fucking back at 300 at 275, at 250, at 220. No, that was you. People are looking for that pound on the back. Where is it? I don't need it. So whenever shit gets nasty, David Guggins goes, you had nobody anyway, motherfucker. You got to do it alone. You got to do it broke. You got to do it scared. You got to do it when you don't know what's going to happen. You got to do it when you don't feel like it. You got to do it even when you don't have to answer. Because you'll figure it out as you go. The greatest fear that we face is ourselves.
Starting point is 00:02:37 It's not anything that's external or anything that's superficial. I think the greatest fear you face is yourself because we all have dreams and it's very scary sometimes to accept the dream that you have. And it's scarier still to say, okay, I want that. Because you're afraid that if you put your heart and soul into it and you fail, then how are you going to feel about yourself? Right? So being fearless means putting yourself out there and going for it. No matter what, go for it. Not for anybody else, but for yourself. I'm going to be real with you. Your family's not going to understand it. The people in your hometown aren't going to support you. And no one's going to believe in you until you have something to show
Starting point is 00:03:18 for it. That's just how it is. So when you start, do it for yourself. I've trained 99% of my life alone. No one pat me on the back. I did all of the work alone. You have to make that start. You have to separate yourself from the pack. You have to be willing to spend time with yourself. All of these things come into play of finding your purpose.
Starting point is 00:03:42 You have to sacrifice. Greater the sacrifice, greater the reward. Along the way to mastery, you walk the way alone. What I realized on my journey was a lot of us don't believe that we can achieve the impossible. You can fucking achieve the absolute impossible. You don't need great parents. You don't need
Starting point is 00:04:01 like a private school. You don't need to have this humongous GPA and all this other shit. What you need is the one thing I talked by my book, which is straight up brutal work ethic. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow and maybe not the next month. Only one thing is true.
Starting point is 00:04:20 I will be champion one day. I promise. At some point, everything's going to go south on you. Everything's going to go south and you're going to say, this is it. This is how I end. Now you can either accept that or you can get to work. That's all it is.
Starting point is 00:04:35 You do the math. You solve one problem and then the next. And if you solve enough problems, you get to come home. Things go wrong. They always seem to happen at once and they just compound on top of each other. It's pretty easy sometimes to feel beaten. doesn't mean give up. In fact, it means the opposite. It means it's time for you to fight hard, to dig in. I fought for it because no one gave it to me because it was just me, me alone in the gym,
Starting point is 00:05:10 me alone in the mirror, me alone in my head. No one did it for me. I worked for it and I'm never going to let someone else take that from you. That's the thing about being alone. It's not that you feel like you don't have anybody. It's like you feel like nobody has you. So once you find yourself, you will find your creativity and you will find the true purpose and what God created you to do. It's hard when you're young to wake up in the offseason at 6 a.m. to go train and work out. It's hard when you're on your way to practice, way down with all your gear. And it's 90 degrees out and all the other kids are at the pool or at the beach. Only to go home that night bruised and battered and strained.
Starting point is 00:05:52 But knowing you have to show up again the next day for just the chance. to try again. Life isn't fair at all. So what are you going to do about it? I knew that no one was coming back to help me. No one's going to miracle me to be somebody special. All my situations were on me now and solely on me. No matter who you are, there are bumps and hits and bruises along the way. And my advice is to prepare yourself. Death and achievement come from overcoming adversity. Most people struggle their whole life to find out who they are. Struggle their whole their whole life to find out what defines them, what they actually enjoy and what they don't. You start putting yourself in situations that suck. You'll find yourself.
Starting point is 00:06:34 The Lonely chapter describes a time in which you're growing, you're changing as a person, and you're now so different that you can no longer resonate with your old set of friends. The superpower of learning to be alone and enjoying it. Well, I think it's critical, and I do think that these times where you just think about things, Just be alone and think about things are so rare these days. During those rare times is when you really get to understand what you actually believe or don't believe. If I'm running on a treadmill and I get to mile nine
Starting point is 00:07:08 and I get complete cramp in one of my legs and I know I've told myself I'm going to run 10 kilometers today, he goes, I will have to limp the last mile even if no one's watching because I can't let the demons in and if I let the demons in, they'll show up in the 11th round of a championship fight And I know deep in myself's story that I'm the type of person that quits when things get hard because I got off that treadmill at mile 9 when no one was watching.
Starting point is 00:07:30 We all have these feelings in our bodies, in our minds, and our souls. I act on mine. A lot of us who are afraid of something, we allow our minds to choose a path of least resistance and we go a different route. I'm afraid of something that's telling me he must come to that. You must do that. You have to go that way. The commitments we keep to ourselves and what we do when no one's watching
Starting point is 00:07:50 is the most persuasive evidence that, governs everything we then do every day thereafter. You can look at certain people in your lives that are struggling in certain situations and oftentimes it's a result of continually unkept commitments to themselves. This lonely chapter is a period through which I think everybody needs to squeeze. Anybody that decides to go from a place they are to a place that they want to be is going to have to let go of people who can't go there with them. If you know that there is something that you're meant to do, if you know that there's something that you're meant to change, you will have to let certain routines, places, activities, recreations that you do.
Starting point is 00:08:28 You're going to have to let those go. The bit that always got to me was I didn't even know if there was going to be any glory on the other side. It's like ordering an Uber and never knowing if it's going to arrive or not. Shut the fuck up, go in a room, stop talking, search your soul, search your mind, search your abilities, and you'll find it. But if you're not looking for it, you won't find it. you've got to go start your journey. And the journey starts with you finding, why the hell am I here on this planet Earth?
Starting point is 00:08:57 And if you don't know that, you will live the rest of your life searching, always asking the question, why? You're in the right. You are on the side of strength and stability, and you don't need approval to go and do what you're supposed to do. So don't listen. Instead, just go get to work. To be successful at anything,
Starting point is 00:09:20 the truth is you don't have to be special. You just have to be what most people aren't. Consistent, determined, and willing to work for it. No shortcuts. Body, that work ethic, integrity, purpose, determination, and discipline that it takes to be a champion in life. And every day you fucking fight, not wanting to get up, and you do anyway, you chip another piece off that fucking rock.
Starting point is 00:09:48 And every day you fucking eat the right food. And every day you go to train, you train hard and harder and harder and harder. And you get up earlier and all these things you do to start forming yourself. A lot of people can give up. It's easy to give up. It's very easy. But what's hard is going, yo, yesterday I got nothing from working as hard as I could. Nothing happened from that.
Starting point is 00:10:08 I'm going to do the same thing again today, but I'm going to try to go harder. That's the hardest thing in the world. To get up every day and give 100% and be in the same position that you were, each day but mentally know that you're trying and trying and trying, that's a real, that's a real grind. Well, you should be afraid of taking risks and pursuing something meaningful, but you should be more afraid of staying where you are if it's making you miserable. Focus on right now, because that is all you've got. Don't waste your time. Do you know that everybody alive gets exactly the same amount of time we get all there is? It's what we do with it that makes a difference. Set your goals high.
Starting point is 00:10:46 Quit thinking about what's wrong. Start thinking what's right. You have no idea what you're capable of doing. Make up your mind today you're going to figure it out. And then you have to have to have a plan and you have to spend all your waking hours outside of whatever shit job you do, planning your escape. And you have to come to the realization
Starting point is 00:11:03 very clearly that you fucked up and you got yourself stuck. So whatever you're doing, you have to do it like your life depends on it. Whatever time that you have, you have to attack like you're trying to save the world. You're trying to save your life. You don't want to drown.
Starting point is 00:11:19 Go. You got to get after it and you got to have discipline. That's most people don't have those things. Most people don't understand what it's like to really go for something and to know that the consequences of not doing that are horrific. The most important conversation you are ever having your own life is the one you have with yourself. You wake up with it, you walk around with it, you go to bed with it. Eventually, you're going to act on it. It is about you. It's strictly about you finding who you are. You have to look in that mirror and know there's so much more in here, man.
Starting point is 00:11:56 Because I can literally right now be a 300-pound guy spraying for cockroaches. Still to this day, if I did not look in that mirror and say, there has to be more to this. This can't be it. And then we're going to go into it, dive deep into it, and give all I have to find it.
Starting point is 00:12:13 Now, we're outside right now. Why are we outside? Because we want to fucking transform that. So why are we going to do what we're going to do? We can get a little more motivation. I'm gonna tell them what I was out of here that we're here to fucking win. This is my fucking time! That's how you do it, guys.
Starting point is 00:12:27 You fucking commit to something. You tell everyone about it. And no matter what, they honk and cheer for you, they get behind you. Instead of being one of those subjective nature losers in life that beats you down because you're doing better than them and you're reminding them of their failures. Get the mind right, the body will follow.
Starting point is 00:12:43 And then day by day, by day, you start to do that goal to make it the reality, guys. It's not guesswork. It's a science of intensity. And if you don't have the intensity, don't come in. Damn, man, what the hell are you doing? Come on, Rock. It's not a game. What's the matter with you? There's no tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:13:07 Problems are a feature of life, not a bug. There will never come a time when you have no problems. What? Did you think that you would just wake up one day and you're going to cease having problems? Like completing a video game and leveling up to a math? where there's nothing there. That is never going to happen. Your problems will change, sure, but having problems is going nowhere. Dealing with problems is the cost of doing business as a human. It's not a personal curse on you.
Starting point is 00:13:48 You take responsibility for everything, regardless of whose fault it is. I'm going to win. I'm going to get up. I'll go to work. I'm going to do the same thing I did yesterday because I know what I'm going to do. Change is uncomfortable, and it rarely happens without, a lot of stress and many of the periods of radical and important change in your life happen because of the severe challenges that you faced. It doesn't matter if you're stressed. It doesn't matter if you're hurt. It doesn't matter if you're upset.
Starting point is 00:14:15 It doesn't matter if you're frustrated. If your discipline is on point, your mental toughness on point, you're going to be able to execute in spite of the situation being that way and you're going to move forward whether you feel good or not. And once you can move forward, whether you feel good or not, nobody can fuck with you. If you're able to operate, even when things are hard, you can't be fucked with. So I would commit long term to the development of your own mental toughness, your grit, your fortitude, your discipline, your self-belief, all of these things intentionally develop them. They're not traits.
Starting point is 00:14:50 They are skills and they are perishable skills. And if you don't intentionally develop them, you will not have them when you need them. There's people that are willing to go very far. And then there's people that are willing to go far further than them. That's it. And when your person who prides yourself on your ability to go very far, and then someone is willing to go far farther than you. The reality of achievement, brother, is it takes way longer than we think.
Starting point is 00:15:15 It's way harder than we think. That's just the way it is, bro. You have to be obsessed. You have to be mission focused. You have to be driven by something greater than what average people are driven by. Whenever something got tough for me, David Gaggins, the real David Gagins, would come out and he would quit. So I had to build Gagons.
Starting point is 00:15:37 Winners have a special DNA. And that DNA is we just feel like we're always behind. We're always behind. We're always behind. 80% of the time you feel like you're failing. 15% of the time you feel like you're just treading water. 4% of the time you feel like it's over. This is it.
Starting point is 00:15:53 The ship's going down. And then 1% of the time you feel like winning. When you change yourself, you will change the world because you'll change how you see it. We can either be hard on ourselves. We can either train ourselves. We can either put ourselves through hell or we can let the world do it. It's your choice.
Starting point is 00:16:12 I am telling you right now that if you make the commitment to becoming the absolute best version of yourself mentally and physically, your ability to handle stress will go through the fucking roof, which will allow you to be effective because you will be able to, execute at a high level when everybody else freaks the fuck out. What are you doing with your life, man? Why are you sitting around? Why are you waiting for shit to happen?
Starting point is 00:16:38 It can happen like that. Why are you feeling sorry for yourself? Why are you waiting for that fucking apology? That's never going to fucking come. People sit around waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and blaming and blaming and blaming and they're waiting with a handout. Do you want to accept a version of you that you shouldn't accept? One that you're not proud of, one that doesn't live up to their word,
Starting point is 00:16:55 one whose thoughts, actions and intentions aren't aligned. Fully. Every family deserves to have a winner. I think it should be you, but you also have to disconnect. Unplug your ambilical cord from the belly button of average and plug yourself into the mindset of a winner, which is a winner does more than expected every single time, no matter how they feel, no matter the circumstances. A winner shows up 10x times more than the average person. A winner has these unreasonable expectations of himself. A winner knows. A winner no knows that he's destined for greatness. And no matter how many people around him tell him to slow down, be careful, watch out, that's too risky.
Starting point is 00:17:37 A winner locks onto their fucking goals and keeps going. That's what the winner does. It's either you have it or you don't. That sounds like excuses to me. I mean, you got to figure it out. If you really have an obsession to figure it out, you will figure it out. And every puzzle is constructed differently. Takes way more energy to start a thing than to continue doing a thing.
Starting point is 00:17:57 And yet, in the beginning, the rewards are way. lower than they are at the end. Tell you, man, just stay on the track, keep executing, look for ways to do what you do better, learn, make mistakes, and eventually it's all going to come together for you and it's going to work. You know, I think you might just be in this life situation might be occurring at a time where you're sort of in the beginning stages of the hockey stick curve, right, where you're going through the long part of inactivity,
Starting point is 00:18:22 and it sounds like you're just a little bit frustrated because the life circumstances of your family are not aligning with the success that you want time-wise, and that shit will all come together, bro. You cannot wish for a strong character and an easy life. Each is the price of the other. Opportunity comes to you many times. Opportunity comes. You can either take it or remain scared of it.
Starting point is 00:18:46 If you don't take it, it's going to knock on somebody else's door. Then it's going to invite them to the adventure. Either you take it or you don't. The more I work, the lucky I get, right? Luck is not, something just happens. It's earned. It's never too late. If you're alive, you can get better. If you're alive right now, you can improve your condition.
Starting point is 00:19:05 You can improve your situation. And it starts with improving the way you think. Where you think of things, the way you address things, you've got to change that. And you've got to look at things objectively and you've got to be brutally honest with yourself. And the more you bolter yourself, the more it's going to be difficult. You're literally throwing weights on your back and making it harder to move forward. Turn your feelings off when it comes down. you wanting to be better. What that means is when that long clock goes off, your feelings got to go
Starting point is 00:19:34 away. It's raining outside. It's cold outside. When you don't want to put those long hours in at work, that's what I'm talking about. Your feelings must go away. But you've got to learn to search your feelings off if you want to achieve greatness. Be the hero and go forth. I want you to be a formidable force to be reckoned with. But that means going from average to figuring out what you're you want to do as a passion and then bypassing your passion and making it your obsession. I always say because I love what I do and I have that passion on me and I love what I do and I enjoy it and I'm that kind of man's. I'm that kind of person say if I'm going to do something I'm going to do 100%. No in the middle, no 90% no I'm 100%. I always try to do
Starting point is 00:20:25 my best and try to do my everything and and I think because I love what I do. I don't want you to be a fucking loser. What if you told people the story of, hey, I had a fucked up life, but I don't want to tell you that. I'm going to tell you what I'm going to do next. And I'm going to go out and do it.
Starting point is 00:20:41 That is what self-development is about. That is what peak performance is about. That is what breaking through self-limiting beliefs is about. Is rewriting the story? Because as long as you have breath in your lungs, as long as your heart is beating, as long as you have consciousness in your mind, you can go and rewrite the story.
Starting point is 00:20:59 story of how your life ends and how your life continues from this day forward, the legacy that you live. Find something difficult to do. You need that. You're not built for, have some sense and enjoy it. But don't be thinking that's what your life is aimed at. Stop making excuses. Simple as that. You can make a million excuses why you didn't work out this morning. You can make a million excuses why you didn't get that raise, why you didn't take that, take that leap of faith. You can make a million excuses, but you know deep down inside and consciousness is eating away at you, I'm not saying that everything you do you should be successful at, you will have periods of defeat. But that defeat will be temporary and not permanent because you will dust yourself off, get back up, and try again.
Starting point is 00:21:52 But you first have to stop making excuses in order to achieve the higher level of life that you want. Every day that you don't do work, you're going backwards. So I'm here to tell you that it will take longer. It will be more difficult. It will require more effort on your part. But you know what I can tell you about that? When you do the hard things, you will have a happy and easy life. But if you constantly choose to take the path of easy and negotiate and compromise, you will have a hard life, a hard life that ends with regret. So I'm here to tell you that if you live a no compromise life, you will become the 2.0 that you deserve to become and that your family deserves to have as a leader. average is the enemy success is your duty build momentum build confidence and momentum with each good
Starting point is 00:22:41 decision that you make from here on out you can do it anyone can do it we live in unique times we live in one of the rarest times in human history where you can choose almost all the input that comes your way whether it's the movies that you watch the books you read the podcast you listen to you can choose to be inspired do that you see this guy here's staring back at you that's your toughest opponent. Every time you get into the ring, that's what you're going against. I believe that in boxing, and I do believe that in life. And what the hell are you going to do if you don't try to aim for the top? I don't care what you're going to do, but go out there and make something of yourself, for God's sake. Be an honest person and work and get to the top of whatever it is that you want to get to the top of.
Starting point is 00:23:27 Don't worry about next week, next year. Just focus on every 24 hours that you get, you know, and that's done a lot for me, you know, because I think so much. many of us are you know even if you you know the entrepreneur in us is always thinking about next week if you're yelling with a personal trauma you're trying to process or you focus on that everything for me is just 24 hours you get it all you have you're going to get max potential back and then who knows what can come that's a beautiful thing if you don't show up guys you know the outcome you'll never get the job never get the part never get the girl if you don't show up if you're sure up if you You show up, you put yourself in a situation to create those opportunities.
Starting point is 00:24:12 And when you show up, how hard do you go? It's up to you guys. But I applaud you for being here. I applaud you for watching this, encouraging you to incorporate this in your workout. You'll see the gains like I did, and you'll fall in love with it. Even though it's tiring and exhausting, and your tires can be, small down payment that you're willing to pay every day for the large investment of a greater life. You only got one life, guys.
Starting point is 00:24:36 If nothing changes, nothing changes. And yet, somehow we expect things to change. We expect things to change. You think you're going to get in better shape. You think you're going to get more money. You think your relationship is going to improve. You think you're going to get promoted. You think you're going to get a raise.
Starting point is 00:24:51 You think the world is going to get better without you doing anything. But it isn't. Nothing is going to change unless you change what you're doing. Remember, just because you're doing a lot more doesn't mean you're getting a lot more. done. Remember that. Just because you're doing a lot more doesn't mean you're getting a lot more done. Don't confuse movement with progress. My mother told me, she said, yeah, because you can run in place all the time and never get anywhere. So continue to strive, continue to have goals, continue to progress. Look at me and you point your finger and you say this is all your fault. I say, yes, I know,
Starting point is 00:25:31 that's what I just said. This is absolutely my fault. I'm the one that's in charge and these are the things that I'm going to do to fix it. How you, you know, you got to take ownership of what's going on in your life when you're not where you want to be and you say it's because the boss doesn't like you or it's because the girl treated you this way or the guy did this. Like all those things, you got to take ownership of them. Yeah. And if you're blaming all these other external things, you're not going to make any changes. And that's going to be a problem. How do I be better than what I was? Because if I do that, oh, for me, I just beat me. This ain't about nobody else. I don't give fuck about nobody else. I just beat me. If I can keep beating myself, Paul's,
Starting point is 00:26:09 if I can keep doing that, then that means that I'm in a battle with the only person that fucking makes sense. I'm in a battle with the only person that I really want to fucking beat, and that's me. Doing the thing in spite of not wanting to do the thing is discipline. Make the promise small, build it up step by step, know that you are going to have setbacks, and this is my favorite rule from James Clear, which is a habit missed once is a mistake. A habit missed twice is the start of a new habit. Never missed two days in a row. If I can continue to outdo me from the day before, then I'm ahead. And I'm ahead. And that's what I, that's the newfound, the newfound energy that I got out of life now. You have to live your life with the expectation
Starting point is 00:26:58 that great things are coming your way. And that's how it works. Now let me teach it to you. You grab your remote. You press the power button. What do you expect to happen? You expect the TV to come on. Guess what?
Starting point is 00:27:16 It come on. So the things I'm going through now, I know this ain't it. That he's going to come get me in a minute. So all I got to do is sit tight. I ain't in a bad place. Now, I ain't where I want to be, but the spot I'm in is better than where I was.
Starting point is 00:27:29 I ain't homeless. He said, if you think someone's ruined your life, your right is you. It's just like people that say, you know, follow your passion. Well, follow your passion. How about act on your passion? Toughness is not about how many push-ups you can do or what you can boot, bench press, or how far you can run. Toughness is in the mind. And your body can be the most perfect, the most conditioned specimen.
Starting point is 00:27:58 But if you don't have a touch, you don't have a time. tough mind. If you don't have a toughness of the mind, if you don't have a tough will, you're not tough. One day in the gym is basically imperceivable. Two days in the gym, you don't recognize any change whatsoever. A hundred days in the gym and you're almost a new person.
