But the question I want to answer is, are you committed? Welcome to Daily Motivation, where you get motivated and inspired. I need you to ask yourself a serious question. How bad do you want it? I know you've got some doubt and you've got some uncertainty
Starting point is 00:01:55 and you hate the image that you see in the mirror and you hate the way your money looks and people that you've given your all to keep walking out on you. And every day, every single day, gives you that new opportunity. So if you don't have a to-do list, get a to-do list. If you haven't planned the day,
Starting point is 00:02:17 start planning your day the night before. If you don't have a morning routine, get a morning routine. If you have not identified the roadblocks, if you have not identified the kryptonite, if you have not identified the hurdles, what has hindered your forward progress, identify those things. Get up and get after it. If you're having a bad day, it's a day to make a difference. It's a day to define who you truly are inside. You woke up this morning to chase your dream until you catch it. And it all starts in your
Starting point is 00:02:57 mind. See, mindset is everything. Every day, every single day is a new beginning so take a deep breath inhale exhale it's a new day a new opportunity when it starts to get tough you must get a little bit tougher. So get up, carry on, be strong and understand and know that your work is not done yet. And so I know it hurts and I know it's expensive. Everything you need to get to this next level is inside of you. There's always another level. Monday, up early, go to bed late. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, up early, go to bed late. Can you do better than you did yesterday? That's all I want to ask you. Can you do better?
Starting point is 00:04:03 It is time to take control of your now. You may be broken. You may be hurting. People may have betrayed you, but you refuse to give up. Rise and grind, baby. Let's go. I want to know what you're passionate about. See, the late great Nelson Mandela said,
Starting point is 00:04:27 there is no passion to be found in settling for a life that is less than the one that you are capable of living. Get up. You got a day to conquer. Rise and grind. You can't lay around a 12 each and every day and expect greatness to come your way it don't work like that so you get out of this life exactly what you put into this life control all delete control yourself Alter your thinking And delete negativity
Starting point is 00:05:07 Period It's about manifestation What have I been destined to become Wake up There's always another level Life is not responsible For how you take care of your own mindset Life is not responsible.
Starting point is 00:05:26 For you having a positive attitude. You're not dead. You still have life. Your heart is still beating. And the journey must continue. Stop drowning. And learn how to swim. Don't blame life
Starting point is 00:05:45 because you fall down. Don't blame life because that relationship didn't work out. Don't blame life because that job did not turn out. It is not life that's holding you back. You just got to be a little bit tougher than your circumstances.
Starting point is 00:06:07 You can't concern yourself about things that you have no control over. What are you made of? What is your DNA? What is your mentality? What are the skill sets? Come on, start to write down the vision. What are your goals? What are your financial goals? What are your financial goals? What are your relational goals? What are your spiritual goals? Come on, start thinking about these things. You're still alive for a reason. Somebody died today, but you're still here listening. In this very moment, you have an opportunity.
Starting point is 00:06:40 Seize the opportunity. The one thing that you must understand is that you don't get any do-overs. Once your day ends, that's it. So what option do you need to commit to taking today? How long are we going to talk about it? How long are we going to talk about it how long are we going to dream about it how long are we going to fantasize about it how long you tell me it takes grit it takes sacrifice it takes time and energy it takes extreme focus go get it go get it go get it go get it. Go get it.
Starting point is 00:07:25 Go get it. Go get it. I want to be that voice to you. Stop dreaming and start chasing. Start pursuing. But most importantly, you got to be calm. Everything I ever dreamed of lives in the sky. And I must jump every single day to go reclaim what's mine. So I'm challenging you to take action with the resources that you have right now.
Starting point is 00:07:51 You see, many of us believe that just because our father was a drug dealer and our uncle was a drug dealer that that is our life, that is our forever. But I want you to know something. That is only a lesson to show us to be something more than what they thought we could be. You see, when a family tree is dying,
Starting point is 00:08:14 all you have to do is take care of the roots. And if the roots is too dead to bring the tree back alive, you plant another one. Too often you have a dream of creating this or getting involved with there. But at the end of the day, sometimes this fear of will I fail? Will I be accepted?
Starting point is 00:08:36 Will I make it? Will I achieve it? The challenge is learning to punch that fear, that threshold right in its mouth. And I'm not promoting violence, but I'm talking about the fear of that voice in the back of your head that makes you think that you can't. And you know what? Maybe you'll make a mistake, but you're failing forward. The thing that we have to continue to passionately, uncompromisably not give in on is the fact
Starting point is 00:09:04 that I'm not staying stagnant. I'm moving forward because what I feed will grow and what I starve will die. We got a lot of whites out there in those neighborhoods, drug dealers, killers, whatever you want to call yourself. And I want you to know, King, you special. You misguided, but you special. I know you grew up without a father and your mother left you and nobody ever loved you and nobody ever told you you can be anything. And you believe.
Starting point is 00:09:52 If you're suffering terribly, there's two options in front of you in some sense. One is you're suffering terribly and it's unjust and you're suffering terribly because the cosmos itself. The other possibility is you're suffering at least in part because you're not everything you could be most of us we live in a box and we don't want to go outside that box at all ever outside that box is all these possibilities of life i now know that there is no cap on the human mind there's no cap we cap it ourselves and there is no cap on the human mind. There's no cap.
Starting point is 00:10:25 We cap it ourselves. And there is a literature too that suggests that people are a lot more unhappy when they look back on their lives about the things they didn't do than they are about the mistakes they made while they were doing things. And so that's really worth thinking about too, because there's redemptive mistakes and a redemptive mistake would be a mistake that you make when you go out and try to do something
Starting point is 00:10:49 you know you actually you think okay I'm going to try to do this and you're not good at it you make a bunch of mistakes it's like what's the consequence if you pay attention you're not quite so stupid anymore that's the thing
Starting point is 00:10:59 is you've been informed by your by the results of your errors take some stumbling steps towards it and. Take some stumbling steps towards it. And as you take stumbling steps towards it, you become illuminated and enlightened and informed because of the nature of your experience, because you're pushing yourself beyond where you are, and you're going into the country that you have not yet been in. And you learn something. And so if you stand still, you fall backwards. You cannot stand still. Because the world moves away from you if you stand still.
Starting point is 00:11:29 And there's no stasis. There's only backwards. And so if you're not moving forwards, then you're moving backwards. And that's more of the underlying truth of the Matthew principle. To those who have everything, more will be given. From those who have nothing, everything will be taken. Everybody wants to get to a place very few are willing to sacrifice to get there.
Starting point is 00:11:52 Everything that has happened that's been good to me is slow. If you actually thought about your life in a 50-year window or an 80-year window, you would slow down. Everybody wants to succeed so fast because they want to prove something to somebody else. I started down the road of,
Starting point is 00:12:09 instead of the path of least resistance, I started choosing the path of most resistance to prepare myself for the journey that was coming my way. Wow. And most kids don't prepare themselves for the most resistance. No. They want to get out of things. They want to get out of things.
Starting point is 00:12:23 Get off the hook. Right. Don't put in the extra reps. Right. They want the easiest path to get to the top, right? Right, exactly. We believe,
Starting point is 00:12:30 like so many people, before I give them a workout plan, they're talking about recovery. Everybody that hears me speak, they want to go straight to recovery. Workout first. Workout first. Before you talk to me about recovery.
Starting point is 00:12:44 How to recover, yeah. Work out first. You know, they want to put you in a box. They want to put a title on you. No, you're putting a title on me to make yourself feel better about yourself. I made this person. I made this person by diving into the insecurities that life gave me because now they're yours. They're yours to own. If you're not smart, call yourself dumb. It's okay. Because you are. But take that not as you're putting yourself down. If you're fat,
Starting point is 00:13:13 call yourself fat. I used to be 300 pounds. We want to talk so soft to ourselves. We're looking for that recovery day. And that recovery day is everything in your life. Everything in your life is a recovery day. We're looking for it. It's not coming.
Starting point is 00:13:28 It's not coming. Get over that recovery day. And that's the mentality I took with me. When you start to build yourself up and start to have the one thing that we don't have is confidence. Real, authentic confidence from hard work. Everything else goes away. You no longer look to other people
Starting point is 00:13:47 for your self-esteem. You now know. I walk in a room now and I know the hours and years and decades I put into David Goggins. That's something that's not on the wall. It's not a trophy on the wall. It's not a medal on your neck.
Starting point is 00:14:04 I don't care how you perceive David Goggins. Because through my journey, I figured out the one piece I was missing. I thought it was cars. I thought it was women. I thought it was money. I thought it was everything. The one piece I was missing was me having the courage to face myself. If you can find something that you have an innate ability for,
Starting point is 00:14:34 and we love doing things to have an innate ability for, right? To have an innate talent in our DNA for, and then go, now I'm ready to educate myself, learn, hustle, go after, see, create opportunities, bam, bam. It's going to be in the prism of my, how I measure every situation where I am going forward. Hunt it down and do what you got to do
Starting point is 00:14:52 to get better at it. And then if it's hopefully something that the world can demand, you're... That's a sweet spot. Now you're paying your rent, man. Now we got food on the table. Now we're rolling.
Starting point is 00:15:03 Now we're waking up with some purpose. Now we're waking up with, purpose now we're waking up with um you know yeah it's gonna be a hard day today but i don't i can't i'm not dreading monday morning you know um maybe i'll sleep in but i got i'm building something i'm building something here i'm in construction you have the ability to do more than you can ever begin to imagine. It's like if you want to have everything you could possibly want and more, then be a good person. The better a person you are, the more likely that is to happen. There's no better strategy. Don't just do it for the money. You can make a lot of money.
Starting point is 00:15:41 When you find something that you love, you will study it. Something that you love that becomes a difference between being in speaking and speaking being in you, that you will become not just confident, but you will become competent on that. Visualization is a gift to your heart and your soul. It's a gift because if the idea is the seed, visualization is the fertilizer. Life is not easy. It is not. Don't try to make it that way. Life's not fair. It never was. It isn't now and it won't ever be. Do not fall into the trap, the entitlement trap, of feeling like you're a victim. You are not. Get over it and get on with it. And yes, most things are more rewarding when you break a sweat to get them. Take everything away and then what is it that you see in the there is the loving heart.
Starting point is 00:16:50 There is the strength or the willpower inside this body. There is the discipline inside this body. There is a loyal person standing. There is pride inside of this. No, you're not famous. No, it's not. Before you were ever an actor, before, what are you? What were you?
Starting point is 00:17:14 Before you were McConaughey, before you were a Texan, before you were an American, before you were an actor, before you were a movie star, before you were a celebrity. Well, come on, get it all off. And it was a purge. You're're the only son can't get rid of so we're gonna duke it out for the rest of our life here or we're gonna figure out a little long you believe we you know we know from the science and we know from experience that if i exercise it's a process and it's good for me even though I can't measure it in the short term.
Starting point is 00:17:46 And if I eat well and I keep doing that, I know it'll keep me healthy for the long term. I'll eat more leafy greens and less sugar. I know I just have to stick to this process that 100%, 100% of the time, it works. How long does it take to get into shape
Starting point is 00:18:01 when you start exercising? Nobody knows. Neither does any doctor. Sometimes a little less time for some people and sometimes a little more time for others. We don't know. We just know 100% that it works. And so I had to get used to the idea professionally that I'm going to do things that I know work, but I won't be able to measure them. And I just have to be okay with the fact that it works like exercise like eating right and so that's where you know
Starting point is 00:18:26 learning an infant mindset and letting go of annual goals so people like you know what's your annual goal i don't have any because i can't predict what i'm going to achieve based on arbitrary timelines and it's really important in the visualization you can't see it over there you have to see it right here you gotta feel it right here like i am it's all i am i am i am in my dream home i am in my dream relationship and then unpack what that looks like but most importantly unpack what it feels like and when you have that that emotion this moment, all of a sudden you stir up something that I don't think will ever go back to sleep. It'll go, okay, let's go get that.
Starting point is 00:19:10 Develop your mind. You don't get in life what you want. You get in life what you are. You have greatness in you. That you have the ability to do more than you could ever begin to imagine. You have greatness in you. There's a presence in each and every one of us
Starting point is 00:19:25 that waits and listens to the voice of the genuine in yourself. It will be perhaps the only guide you will ever have or hear. And if you cannot hear it all of your life, you'll be spent on the ends of strings that somebody else pulls. When you recognize your greatness, no one will ever pull your strings. You are different. You were created on purpose with a purpose to manifest that purpose through you. But you will never exercise authority and dominion over your life until you exercise authority and dominion over what you are not. There are things that you have been called to do that you have never done.

But that day will never come because you have not made the decision to get started. The choice is yours. One day or day one. You see, everyone wants to be successful, but most people aren't willing to make the sacrifices required to go from average to elite. You can't keep doing what you've been doing and expect to get different results.
Starting point is 00:22:03 What do you want? What do you believe you were destined to do? And then you gotta spend every single solitary day for the rest of your life going after that dream. But it all starts with you. One day or day one, the choice is yours. There will be days when you don't feel like working towards your goals,
Starting point is 00:22:32 but you can't make decisions based upon how you feel because your results are based upon what you do. This is your life and I need you to leave a legacy. Stand up, stand tall in the face of it all and go do what you got to do starting right now. And when you think there's nothing left in the tank, look yourself in the eye and say, I can, I will, I must. In order to achieve the goals that you set for yourself, you're going to have to do three things. One, you're going to have to conquer self-doubt. I have discovered that simply changing your belief can change everything. Two, you're going to have to conquer your fear of failing. The people who ultimately end up getting what they want, they do not become discouraged or quit after experiencing a failure or a roadblock. They leverage that failure. They leverage that challenge. They leverage that rejection as a learning lesson.
Starting point is 00:23:48 Number three, you're going to have to stop waiting for perfect timing. The perfect time is now. So instead of overthinking and overanalyzing, commit to using what you've got, using what you know, so that you can keep moving forward. I'm talking about you got to think of everything you've got, using what you know, so that you can keep moving forward. I'm talking about, you got to think of everything you've ever wanted in your life. You have to think about what your father has gone through and what your mother has gone through. All of the pain, all of the trauma, everything you have experienced, the turbulence, you have to garner up all of that hunger and you got to put it toward that goal. A dream without a deadline will become your nightmare and that nightmare will haunt you for the rest of your life. This is the day that you start doing the things
Starting point is 00:24:45 that you need to do to arrive at your desired outcome. You know where you want to be. You know what you want to do. I could have took the easy route, but there is no easy route. So I need you to stop talking about it and be about it. This is the day. No more one day aisles.
Starting point is 00:25:06 Let this be day one of the beginning of the new you. Death to the old you. Show the world everything that you got inside. Show the world that you can become something that nobody ever thought you could become. Prove your doubters and your haters and your naysayers wrong. Your commitment to yourself, your commitment to your goals, your commitment to your vision must override how you feel.
Starting point is 00:25:36 If you are under a tremendous amount of pressure right now, don't let the pressure stop you. The nightmare is to reach our 60s, our 70s, our 80s, or even our deathbed and to talk about everything we should have done. I should have done that. I should have invested in this. I should have made the relationship work. We sit around and talk about all of our shoulds. We talk about all the things we wanted to do but never got it done. That, that's the nightmare. That's the nightmare that we all must avoid. Make a decision. Make a choice and start right now so you can look back and be so proud of yourself and you can pat yourself on the back and say that a boy and say that a girl. We got it done because we made the decision to get started. Because when you want something bad enough,
Starting point is 00:26:30 you're willing to wake up early. When you want something bad enough, you don't back down out of frustration. When you're waiting for everything to line up, all you're doing is holding up your progress. And let this be day one that you put one foot in front of the other and start to get things done. And let one day turn into two and two days turn into three and three days turn into four and four days turn into a week and a week turns into a month. I want you to think about everything that you've been through.
Starting point is 00:27:07 Everything that has happened to you. And I want you to look yourself in the mirror. And I want you to recite these three words. I made it. The dream will destroy you. Let it. All men are created equal. Some work hard in preseason.
Starting point is 00:27:30 When I went to college, guys were way smarter than me. 4.0s, 3.0s, they went to the Ivy League high schools, came to Oakwood from these great high schools. Most of them are not doing what I'm doing. Why? Because it's not about where you come from. It's about heart. You gotta let your dream destroy you. gotta give everything you got no excuses this your opportunity to blow up if you really want your dream bad enough if you really want to go
Starting point is 00:27:56 where you say you want to go if you really want to do what you say you want to do you have to let your dream destroy you you have to let your dream break you down because that's the only way that you're gonna be built back up the version of you that you are right now is a blessing but it won't take you to the next level what got you here won't take you there so let the dream destroy you tear you down redefine you build you back up, make you stronger. The first version of Eric Thomas would never be able to stand in front of you guys. The first version of Eric Thomas, the high school dropout, that guy would have never been able to stand here and help you.
Starting point is 00:28:37 I had to destroy that Eric Thomas. See, your problem is you talk a good game, but at the first sign of adversity, at the first sign of a setback, at the first sign of a hiccup, at the first sign of something not going the way you thought it should go, you quit. Let the dream destroy you. Let it strip you. Let it remake and mold you. Don't be afraid. Pain is what's going to lead to that future gain you gotta let your dream destroy you you gotta give everything you got to be able at
Starting point is 00:29:11 any moment to sacrifice what we are for what we could be I don't do well in math you're right you ain't never studied I'm not good in writing because you have never written before but I dare you to fail in writing for a whole year to see if you can get to the end I dare you to fail. I dare you to take that same class over and over again. I dare you to stop dropping classes like you saw Would a real Eric Thomas please stand up stop being this high school dropout Stop giving up stop sleeping on the streets and get your GED. Stop being afraid to take a test. Stop being afraid to go to college
Starting point is 00:29:54 because your daddy didn't go and your mama didn't go. Stop being afraid and be the best Eric Thomas you can be. But listen to me, it's gonna be hard. It took me 12 years to get a four year degree, but I got it. And guess what? On a degree, it don't have dates. So if it to be hard. It took me 12 years to get a four year degree, but I got it. And guess what? On a degree, it don't have dates. So if it took you four and it took me 12,
Starting point is 00:30:09 it don't show up nowhere. I need you to study like you've never studied before. I need you up all night long studying, getting about three, four hours here, hour and a half here, two hours here. You hear me say this all the time. For some of you, this is it. And even you say, Eric, look, man, you don't understand.
Starting point is 00:30:27 If I put everything in, I'm still gonna get a 1.0. I'm telling you to do it anyway, because, you know, I told you I flunked English three times when I was in college, right? Flunked it the first time, and I quit when they told me I couldn't pass. The second time she told me, you're gonna flunk, I stayed in there anyway.
Starting point is 00:30:44 And guess what, as stupid as this might sound even though you flunk you learn enough you know a new concept right so that's one or two less concepts I got to learn the next year right and finally that third time I clipped it which means you just take a test and I took the test and I passed it you don't get it you have to give everything you got to get what you want. You have to give everything you don't even realize you have to get where you're trying to go. Don't you get it? When you do what they want, you will have what they don't.
Starting point is 00:31:17 When you do what they refuse, they won't have the options that you get to choose. Because those are reserved for those who choose to move when others choose to stand still. Those are reserved for those that choose to get up when so many others couldn't find the strength to lift up and give more. And when you get to the point where all you want to do is be successful as bad as you want to breathe, then you'll be successful. And I'm here to tell you number one, that most of you say you want to be successful, but you don't want it bad, you just kind of want it. You don't want it badder than you want to party. You don't want it as much as you want to be cool.
Starting point is 00:31:56 Most of you don't want success as much as you want to sleep. Some of you, you can make sacrifices when Monday Night Football is not on. You can make a sacrifice, but when the game come on, for some reason, you just attach to it. You can make sacrifices on Sunday when there ain't nothing going on. But when your favorite show comes on Monday, bam, some of you, you focus into the phone ring and then you're like, I gotta answer it. If I don't answer the phone, I'm gonna die. I'm saying to you today that there are some of you if you give up your cell phone you would be successful
Starting point is 00:32:27 But your cell phone is more important to you than your success You have to give it everything you got no more TV. No more parties No more plans if you have a 4.0 what you need to be doing is studying Get off the phone. I'm sorry. I'm not available until the end of this year. No, I'm for real. You've reached the right number, but you called me at the wrong time. Call me back January 1st. I'm about to get busy now.
