Starting point is 00:01:00 No, spend, no bias, no censorship. I'm Dan Whitten. This is outspoken episode number 570. And I am in black today for two reasons. The return of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to the UK. Yes, I am in mourning over that. But more importantly, the death of a woman who stood above the woke victimhood of those two. Not many celebrity death announcements, especially one of a lady of 80 years old, will stop and unite the Western world. But Dolly Parton's department. from this earth overnight after a mercifully short cancer battle did just that. Dolly, who I had the pleasure of getting to know, was the greatest. The greatest, and we will celebrate her later on today's show. Would you ever leave the house without makeup? Good call. Not unless my husband was done, and I'd have to think about that. Would I ever speak you with this? Dolly Wood. Yes, let's do it. Dolly, do you know what? You're an inspiration.
Starting point is 00:02:10 But breaking today, it's the reverse ferret freedom flight as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle arrive in the UK for him to live and her to spend as little time as possible while pretending they're not effectively separated as a couple. Oh, and how did the Eco Warriors arrive? By private jet, of course. But you know here on outspoken, I am reporting the truth about this return that the MSM will not. The couple are about to start a painful and long-term separation as they try to pretend their marriage is still alive.
Starting point is 00:02:47 Returning here privately, we understand from California, of course, on private transport. You'll be flying into the country privately from California. There's no apology, as we both know. you know, nobody's been said sorry to, nobody's been really clued in. Megan will be, you know, travelling internationally. And so, yes, she'll be in the UK for some of the term time. But it's this term time only, so that's what 30 weeks a year. So all of the ranking news on this coming up with Royal Expert, Richard Fitzwilliam,
Starting point is 00:03:18 and our superstar panel introducing Mike Jones, the political scientist and migration expert, known as techno-populist on X and Substack. We're going to be joined today by Father Calvin Robinson. He is the author of this brilliant new book, The Silent Jihad, exposing the Islamification of the West. Also coming up on the show today, massive fallout from the BBC's plan to axe its once flagship show Newsnight as ex-show presenter Andrew Neal,
Starting point is 00:03:50 sensationally admits the end is now nigh. For the British Passion Corporation, we will reveal the inside details. We're also going to have the Royal Uncancelled Aftershow. according to Taz is up on that. You know you're not going to want to miss her. Plus, we are revealing a new Greatest Britain and Union Jackass 2. You can vote right now for the worst Britain in the world today on the live chat on YouTube. Mike Jones has nominated Anna Turley, the MP, for the fact that she paid tribute. Did you see this? To five thugs who were travelling in a stolen car on the wrong side of the
Starting point is 00:04:25 world. Mike says that by paying tribute to all seven victims of the deadly crash, Turley put the five thugs on a par with the two police officers in the oncoming car they collided with. I have nominated Prince Harry for returning to the UK on a private jet. And Father Calvin Robinson has nominated Mark Leslie, a home office and civil service diversity champion who hosted a safe space for staff to discuss the campaign to fly the English flag. Okay, get voting in the live chat. Do keep your superchats coming in throughout the show today, desperate to hear from you on this. But now, let's go. So the Eco Warriors, the Eco Warriors Prince Harry and Megynneux touchdown in a private jet on the reverse ferret freedom flight. This is the Planet 9 private air jet.
Starting point is 00:05:18 It took off from Van Nuys Airport in Los Angeles at 6.01 p.m. on Tuesday, landing in the far-eis-glamorous Birmingham, which is a city being subjected to an Islamist takeover at the moment at 11.56 a.m. this morning. The charter cost alone is believed to be in the six figures. But what about the cost of the reputation of Harry's environmental travel company? And let's be honest, this is why Harry and Megan are an international laughing stock, now trying to convince the world that their marriage isn't in the deepest of trouble and their effect of separation where Megan will spend extended periods away from her children is totally normal. The news was still shocking enough, however, to ricochet across the globe.
Starting point is 00:06:05 Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their two children, actually in a little bit, are arriving back in the UK today and they are returning here privately. We understand from California, of course, on private transport. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were due to arrive in the United Kingdom today. We've just discovered inside the last 10 minutes, they have landed at Birmingham Airpoles. It's being reported now that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their children are returning to Britain today. Terry and Megan Markle have officially arrived back in the UK. Really? It was reported last week that the Duke and Duchess. And those Fox News presenters have good reason not to believe it. I mean, if you're just looking at the mainstream media
Starting point is 00:06:46 coverage, that doesn't include my reporting that Harry is deeply unhappy in his marriage and issued Megan Markle an ultimatum to return to a country that she hates, then none of this does make any sense at all. Here's how the Daily Telegraph broke the news, reporting that Harry returned without the close protection he believes we the British taxpayer should pay to the tune of five million pounds a year. That, by the way, is something only two percent of Brits believe is a good idea. The telegraph, remember the royal newspaper of choice, revealed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have returned to Britain without close police protection in place as they begin an extended stay with their children. The Sussexes who arrived at Birmingham Airport at lunchtime on Wednesday were not granted a
Starting point is 00:07:35 publicly funded police convoy for the journey to their new home. The family will now spend time settling in privately before Archie 7 and Lily, who is 5. Note I don't call them Prince Archie and Princess Lily, but the telegraph does, but I don't believe that they legitimately should be in the line of succession, join a British school for the start of the September term. They have been supported by their own protection team and were met by a van and two blacked-out cars from their overnight flight from California. It is only the third time Lily is known to have been in Britain. Archie was born in his father's homeland but moved to Canada, then the US, with his parents, before his first birthday.
Starting point is 00:08:18 The Duke and Duchess are moving to Britain six years after they left working in the royal family. Their UK home is thought to be in the Cotswolds where they previously rented a property. They plan to live as an international family, keeping their homes in California and Portugal. In any other language, that would be a separation, right, with Harry here and Megan there. A source told the telegraph, how long will they stay? I don't know, but it will be for an extended period, whether that's six months a year, two years. Who knows? The couple are bringing their dogs, Mia and Pula with them, but are keeping their children.
Starting point is 00:08:48 chickens in Montecito rather than rehoming them suggesting they plan to return. But look, all of this is propaganda and nonsense. Harry is here, okay? We might not like it. I certainly don't like it, but he is here for good. And the kids are now here for good. He is not taking them out of British schools. That is not an option for Prince Harry. And so this was the ultimatum that he made to Megan Michael, if you want to keep this marriage going, if you want to get the positives out of this, then you come to the country that you used to describe as being a racist hellhole. Indeed, The Daily Mail's Alison Boshoff confirming today that Harry has made it clear to Megan that he is here for good. And if she doesn't like it, the marriage is off.
Starting point is 00:09:38 So how long are the kids going to be in these schools? And the friend said, well, you know, this is the duration. This is until Archie and Linda finished school. So I'm like, well, okay, this is 15 years then. And I said, well, what about Megan? And the friend said to me, oh, well, Megan's already plotting out in her diary when she's going to be in the UK and which week she's going to need to be in California. And they're all going to spend the holidays in California. So they'll still really be Californian in some way.
Starting point is 00:10:03 And I thought, oh, okay, so what this is, as you say, as you correctly said, and you called it, is this is Harry and the kids are now basing themselves in the UK. and Megan will be, you know, travelling internationally. And so, yes, she'll be in the UK for some of the term time. But it's term time only, so that's what 30 weeks a year. So half a year. But this is term time only. And Megan is not going to be there even for that limited amount of the year. And I was thinking about it today.
Starting point is 00:10:34 Do you know what these two needed to do? They needed to leave that private check today, call all the media there, and they needed to come down those steps and metaphorically then be on their knees, and they needed to issue a grovelling apology. A grovelling apology to King Charles and Catherine, the Princess of Wales, for falsely spreading rumours that they were racist. They needed to issue a posthumous apology to Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the late Duke of Edinburgh for suggesting that their legacy was one of racism and that the British royal family was systemically racist. They needed to apologise for that. But they also needed to
Starting point is 00:11:22 apologise to you, to you the British taxpayer, the British Brexit voter, who they so disgustingly suggested were racist as a result of your patriotic political opinions. But there was none of that. Indeed, Boschoff has revealed to Tom Sikes on the Royalist today that there has been no apology even privately to the royal family, which in my view makes King Charles's disgusting decision to welcome them back even more inexcusable. I don't feel that this trip has been preceded by really any proper buttering up of the family. There's no apology, as we both know. you know, nobody's been said sorry to nobody's been really clued in. They've just kind of barged in in this kind of absolutely bizarre way, you know, having just, you know, in very recent history, kind of bludgeoned their way via emotional blackmail to their July summit. So, yeah, you know, amazing behaviour.
Starting point is 00:12:30 Now, I do know that there is a portion of the outspoken audience, a large portion actually watching in the United States right now, who are delighted. Jimmy Failure of Fox News has actually gone viral for saying live on air that Megan Markle should start a true crime podcast about how she stole Harry's balls, watch. This is my real theory on this. She wanted to be more relevant than Kate Middleton badly, okay? Because if you read any of these reports, she was trying to run for Senate in California. Like they literally, Prince Harry asked for a meeting with Joe Biden, and Biden wouldn't meet with the Prince because he thought Purple Rain was a bad song. He's like, I'm not doing it. He's tiny. Minnesota's not even a swing stage. But you know this. Like, what's really killing her is that
Starting point is 00:13:22 Kate is obviously a lot more relevant because she's in line to the throne. And so she was trying to find ways to out hustle Kate. Is that not what's going on? Because she's going back because she stopped being relevant in California. Yeah, well, stop being relevant. And also, you need to make money to live in a state worth like $35 million. Yes, uh-huh, yeah. But nobody feels bad for royalty. Like you're living in America, where 70% of people are living paycheck to paycheck. They don't want to hear about how someone was rude during your eight-handed massage.
Starting point is 00:13:51 You know what I mean? Yeah. Yeah. And they had the wrong lotion. And is it because I'm black? You're like, no, it's because you're an ass-shut up. And if I was going to give her showbiz advice, because you said she needs to make money. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:04 Megan Markle should start a true crime podcast about how she stole Harry's There it is. There you go. There it is. Very, very good. By contrast, who does Megan have? Megan has a dwindling band of hard left-woktopians like Narinda Kor who claim that any criticism of their bully boss is down to racism or jealousy. You're so jealous, so jealous of Megan's Sussex and Harry and their life and the happiness they have. Oh, I'll leave it on this last thing. William and Kate, lazy as well, I'll have to start doing some work now.
Starting point is 00:14:42 The pressure is on. William and Catherine have a happy marriage, raise their three children together as a united couple in the same country, and have popularity ratings, politicians and celebrities can only dream of. I think they're going to be okay. And those Bikai lefters like Ms. Caw should surely be concerned about the latest report. This has just been revealed by the New York Post. Megan's horrid behaviour towards lowly staff members in Montecito.
Starting point is 00:15:15 Indeed, they report that she had trouble staffing, the mansion, with housekeepers before the families moved back to the UK. A source revealing she had trouble hiring maids because a lot of the housekeepers in Montecito didn't want to work for them. Megan would interview people herself and could come across as really snobbish and rude. Some of them were so offended by the way she spoke to them, that word started getting around. The source said the Duchess of Sussex's alleged reputation among local housekeepers eventually became something of a running joke around the Ritzie California enclave.
Starting point is 00:15:51 It got to the point where people would joke that all the maids at Montecito hated them. Now you remember, in June 2025, four staff that's left Markle and Prince Harry's team, page six confirmed at the time. Kyle Boolia, the couple's Los Angeles-based Deputy Press Secretary and Charlie Gibson, their UK press officer quietly exited their positions after the couple took on new advisers. A source also confirmed that two members of their private team have likewise departed their roles in recent weeks. During Markle's time as Working Royal in the UK, she had been accused of bullying by palace aids, resulting in the palace launching and investigation. The findings were never released, and Markle denied the claims. several neighbours, ready for a little more peace and quiet, by the way, in Montecito.
Starting point is 00:16:33 One resident saying when we heard Harry and Megan were moving to Montecito, there were definitely some concerns. There had already been so much negative press and tension surrounding them and the royal family, and I think people worried about what kind of spotlight they could start to bring to such a quiet community. And the insider noted that now they're moving back to the UK, they couldn't be more thrilled. So Montecito is happy. But we here in the United Kingdom are not, because Prince Harry and Meghan Markely are here to cause chaos for the British royal family, which doesn't need this, given we have a monarch and head of the Church of England who seems to care more about Islamism than Christianity. So People magazine,
Starting point is 00:17:16 which, as you know, if you've been watching my reports on this, is now the propagandist mouthpiece for Harry and Megan. Harry actually emails them directly, has done the best to spin the story this week, suggesting that this move has been in the works for a year. But there is no doubt, even from them, that Harry forced this decision on Megan. So here's the source close to Harry, telling people in the cover story step by step they want to be in the UK. They want to have time and give the kids the opportunity to be here. The move sources of stress isn't sudden. It has been in the works for about a year. And with Archie and Lillianel's school age, those close to the couple say the timing increasingly made sense. But then I want you to listen carefully to this source close to
Starting point is 00:18:02 the Duke. It's something Harry has been thinking about for a while. Harry, no mention of Megan. They go on. Beneath the professional considerations is something more personal. Despite building a life in Montecito, Harry never fully found his footing there according to sources in California. He struggled to establish a close social circle of his own and missed the long-time friends and community he had in Britain. Harry never really stopped missing home. He's missed that sense of connection and belonging. Britain is still home in many ways.
Starting point is 00:18:38 The decision, however, was taken as a family. There's another source. For Harry, giving his children a connection to his mother's roots matters. He wants them to understand the world he grew up and where their family comes from. That doesn't mean the life they built in California hasn't worked for them. Montecito gave Harry and Megan what they wanted when their children were little, privacy, space and distance from the scrutiny of royal life, while serving as a base for Megan's business ventures, including Nazefa, which has new product launches planned. But as their children have grown, so have the family's priorities.
Starting point is 00:19:07 The US political climate has also been a factor according to sources as Harry and Megan have made no secret of their disillusionment with the current administration. So again, this is all spin. Pull the other one. They've lived under Donald Trump for years. All of this briefing is. is avoiding the elephant in the room, which is that Harry is deeply unhappy in his marriage to Meghan Markle, indeed Lady Colin Campbell, reporting right here on outspoken, that he has formed a close friendship with a female in Montecito. The people went on, Britain is also where Megan has
Starting point is 00:19:38 said she became so isolated and unhappy as a working royal that she experienced suicidal thoughts. And so Megan is clearly not happy about this. A source close to her saying, my biggest concern is the level of media attention she'll face in the UK. I'm worried for her. But, Harry's not. Harry doesn't care anymore. They go on to say this time the circumstances are markedly different. Megan returns not as a working royal navigating the palace hierarchy, but with her own pursuits, team and support system, and greater control over her public life. She has been vocal about how she felt about it before, but that doesn't mean things are going to be exactly the same again, says an ally. It doesn't mean it can't be different and can't change. Another says her network is better prepared
Starting point is 00:20:19 and stronger now than ever to protect her, to protect them. Now come on. Come on! The only people who need protecting are Queen Camilla, Prince William, Catherine the Princess of Wales, and even young Prince George. From Meghan and Harry. They need protection from Megan and Harry.
Starting point is 00:20:49 who intend to use this new UK base to do everything they can to make life difficult for them. Now, I know a lot about this, okay? I have reported on this couple for a decade. A decade now. God help me. I revealed their decision to exit in the first place. And can I just tell you that this move, and again, it is a move by Harry, not by Megan. Megan will largely be in California. This is the beginning of the end of any type of normal relationship between them. But it has not changed my overall belief that Harry and Megan's number one goal, and just listen very carefully to this, their number one goal remains the end of the royal family. But there is one caveat, one exception. That is unless they can steal the throne for themselves. Now, the superstar panel.
Starting point is 00:21:51 Father Calvin Robinson and Mike Jones with me alongside the Royal Expert Richard Fitzwilliam. So Richard, let's get straight to the news that Harry and Meghan have now touched down on British soil. Thank God they got no police escort. So at this stage, we're not paying for it. But can you believe they came in on a private jet, rumoured to be costing about £100,000? Well, I think that, as I remember back in 2019, I think Harry, had a conversation with Dr. Jane Goodall, the environmentalist, who was very famous.
Starting point is 00:22:30 And I think he said that having more than two children was wrong because he was so concerned about saving the planet. And we know that they use private jets subsequently. Indeed, they came on a lot of criticism about this. But it's perfectly obvious that this is a question of do as I say, not as I do. The one pity is that they didn't make the speech that you have just been, so to speak, considering would be only appropriate, and that is the apology, that no one who has been attacked by Harry and Meghan over the years has ever had, and I suspect will ever have.
Starting point is 00:23:11 Richard, do you really believe, do you really believe that Meghan Markle is going to spend any more than a few weeks here for optics? I think it will depend on how things are managed. For example, the optics are very important because remember one thing that the Sussexes do have, and that is huge optics. They failed in all sorts of areas where you've been discussing this for a very long time, and we know very well that Netflix very largely was a failure, Spotify and so on, the Archwell philosophies, all their very, very minor charity. But when it comes to profile, the whole world has heard of them or so they believe and is interested, or a lot of it, in reading about them. Now, with reference to the popularity, I think that you've got 22% in Britain, Megan,
Starting point is 00:24:08 and 33% Harry. So it's pretty awful. Whereas with William and Catherine, you've got in the 70s. But avoiding straight comparisons, optics are pivotal and, frankly, I mean, looking the way they've handled the last few years, optics very often have been absolutely pathetic and terrible. But here they've launched onto something that is extraordinary, because two weeks ago I wouldn't have dreamt that this would have happened. Putting the royal family in an impossible position, you're absolutely right. Now, why is this if they are relatively weak? Well, the answer is, of course, because they're, so's to speak in inverted commas, this is a second coming. This is in point of fact. Give it take a few weeks.
Starting point is 00:24:56 Every major royal event that takes place, there will be commentary, as always, but there will be commentary as well as to whether the Sussexes were invited, should have been invited. is the, you know, is the Rift really with that unreasonable Prince William, after all, he should surely concede, shouldn't he? After all, one day, he's going to be ahead of the church. I mean, the only Christian thing to do is to bow the knee. Well, of course, that's absolute rubbish. But there's no question that the press internationally will fix on the bizarre nature of this. The fact you've got a sort of faux royal court in Britain with Megan in Montecito.
Starting point is 00:25:38 Harry will be around. How will he occupy himself with charities so far with Invictus, with Welchow, with Scotty's little soldiers? Yes, he's done very well with those. They're practically all he's got left as far as I can see because he's given up links with, the link he had with Africa Parks. And of course, they're going to put him in reportedly Centiabal, bringing a court case against him. But Invictus, yes. So what does he plan? huge question marks when it comes to royal events in the future because as you've made this point earlier on, we must be prepared for a huge, huge exercise
Starting point is 00:26:18 in public relations to persuade us that basically William has got to give in and William and Catherine, forget what was said and, you know, we must open our arms not so fast. Indeed, Richard, stand by. I want to bring in Father Calvin Robinson now. Calvin, a couple of things to pick up on with you. Firstly, King Charles, King Charles, he really is the only member of the British Royal Family who wants this. Princess Anne doesn't want this. Prince Edward
Starting point is 00:26:52 doesn't want this. Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, doesn't want this. Prince William doesn't want this. Catherine, the Princess of Wales, doesn't want this. Can King Charles really once again defy his people, defy his subjects in such an egregious manner without the British royal family as an institution coming under threat? It is a difficult one because he does have to consider what's good for the country and what's good for his family. I think it's debatable whether it's good for the country or not, but I think it's certainly good for his family, for his son to return home.
Starting point is 00:27:23 And it's going to be challenging. It's going to be very difficult for all of them. And I think it's a good sign that the Prince of the Realm is returning to the realm. and I hope that the marriage can survive. I hope that it can thrive, actually. I hope that she can kind of take the knee. I hope that she can bow down to the monarchy that she has married into.
Starting point is 00:27:42 I think it would be wonderful for the whole family and for the country if Megan could take a back seat and allow Prince Harry to take his role as spare. That would be amazing. But absolutely it would be good for the king. He is at the end of his life, as we know, and I think it's quite right and proper for him to want to make amends with his
Starting point is 00:28:00 long lost son, his son that ran off to America for a new life away from the public eye and all of that. And if he wants to return for a quiet life in England away from the spotlight to just play the role of son and father and husband, that would be amazing. But do you believe that's what he wants? Because I don't. I think it's possibly what he wants,
Starting point is 00:28:20 whether it's what she wants or not is another question entirely. I think she is the Machiavellian puppet master behind the scenes, who's very careerist, very ambitious. And she latched on to this, to the royal family. in order to boost her career prospects. And so if she can take a back seat, as I say, in terms of her career, her ambitions, which already is starting to look like it's not going to happen, as I'm hearing rumors of her auditioning for major shows once she's back out here.
Starting point is 00:28:43 But if she can put that aside, it will be great. I just don't know if she has it in her to serve, to be committed to have a sense of duty and obligations of the British people. Because actually what she's showing is that she's not even committed to her own family, Father Calvin. I mean, all of the briefing is that Harry. is going to be a full-time father in the United Kingdom. He has put his foot down and said that he will be here for all of the schooling. She, according to sources close to her, just has to be in the
Starting point is 00:29:13 US for her business interest. Now, I don't believe that is true. She could easily run these businesses remotely if she wanted to. So she's effectively saying that she doesn't believe her role as mother means that she needs to be full-time with her own children. I mean, to me, it's quite a selfish decision. It goes against the picture that she has tried to paint Father Calvin of her being this earth mother type who puts the interests of her children ahead of the interests of herself. It is the most selfish decision of modernity, this lie that we can have it all. You can be a successful career woman and you can be a mother. No, to be a mother is hard work. It's the greatest vocation that there is. And so for Megan to put her career above her motherhood is actually saying
Starting point is 00:29:58 that her kids matter less to her than her own personal ambition. That is actual selfish desire. That is a sin is what it is. And of all the people in the world, of all the feminists in the world, she's one person who doesn't have to work. She doesn't need to work really and truly. She could live off her husband and her husband's father on the estate, the raw estate. They could live very, very comfortably compared to most people in our country this day and age, without her having to lift her finger. But it's not about having to work, is it about her wanting to be someone,
Starting point is 00:30:28 to be someone influential and important. And that is just sin. It is vanity, it's pride. But Father Calvin, you are saying you do trust Prince Harry to return to the United Kingdom. You would want him to be back in the fold of the royal family.
Starting point is 00:30:42 I'm hoping he has good motivations and he wants to reunite with his family. I think that's a good thing. I think it could be really, really good for all of them if they can bury the hatchet and get back together. We want a united royal family, right? See, I don't.
Starting point is 00:30:54 I don't want him anywhere near it, if I'm totally honest. I don't, well, I don't view, okay, I don't view him as part of the royal family. I don't. He quit. He quit in the most revolting of circumstances. He spread false allegations of racism, which he then tried to row back and say was all about unconscious bias. And I'm very much in the Prince William camp, which is that Harry needs to be treated in the same way as the Duke of Wins. after the abdication crisis, where he ran off with Wallace Simpson,
Starting point is 00:31:25 was briefly given a job, I think, was it governor of Barbados, Bahamas, Richard, you might know, one of them. Bahamas, Bahamas. And they're never returned. They're never, ever returned, apart from, I think, a couple of funerals. I think Harry deserves exile, permanent exile, to be honest. I don't view him as part of the royal family. I don't want him as part of it.
Starting point is 00:31:47 I don't trust him. I feel that pretty strongly. No, I get that. I don't want to take agency away from him, but I do think he is a bit thick and he has been led astray by a Jezebelance and she has different agendas. And so I think a lot of it falls on her.
Starting point is 00:32:03 Again, not take agency away from him, but if he's separated from her a little bit as they're going to be and brought back into his family, he'll have good influences around him. That could be a good thing for him. But I do want to say it's good to be back on here with Richard again. Good to see you, Richard. Indeed, it is.
Starting point is 00:32:16 And very good to have for the first time on outspoken Mike Jones, the techno populist. Mike, can I just ask you about this from the perspective of popular opinion, public opinion? I mean, no politician, surely, even the Prime Minister Andy Burnham, can back a decision that 98% of the public disagree with
Starting point is 00:32:39 if you look at, for example, security, giving Prince Harry's security paid for by us. So why does King Charles, as Monick, feel so confident that he can, defy the feelings of his subjects on this? Well, Prince Harry is not going to get security. Let's put it that way. I think what the British public will be concerned with is motive.
Starting point is 00:33:02 Why is he coming back to the United Kingdom? The official explanation is basically he wants his children to have a sort of transnational cultural upbringing. So he wants his kids to be brought up partly in the US and partly in Britain. But I'm somewhat skeptical that this is the actual explanation. I think there's a commercial reason for why they're coming back to the UK. I think Prince Harry, the Invictus Games are coming up next year in Birmingham.
Starting point is 00:33:34 Obviously, Harry is a big patron of that movement. It's been rumoured that Meghan Markle has had discussions with various British film directors over roles in movies. So I basically think this is partly a commercial decision. And I don't think Megan Markle and Prince Harry have been completely successful in their movement towards the United States. I think it's fallen flat. Their commercial ventures with Spotify and Netflix have totally failed. And I think they're making a sort of career commercial decision to come back to the United Kingdom. I'm somewhat skeptical about the child-rearing reasons for why they're coming back.
Starting point is 00:34:24 But my personal advice to Meghan Markle is keep your profile low because there's very little trust amongst the British people and even amongst sections of the political class about the motives. You know, the royal family they abide by the dignified elements of the British Constitution. Megan Markle has overstepped those bands. She's very much politicized her role within the royal family. And yeah, it's going to be quite interesting what happens in the next few months. She's toxic politically, isn't she?
Starting point is 00:35:02 I mean, we even saw that with the Democrats in the US. But Richard Fitzwilliams isn't one of the problems with Megan Markle. She never does anything quietly. I mean, we've seen, as Mike references, with this role in the Guy Ritchie Netflix drama the gentleman wasn't signed, Richard. It seems like there were a few discussions, a couple of years earlier, and her team tried to leak this to provide cover as to why she's moving back. Oh, no, it's not that the marriage is in trouble and that Prince Harry has given me an ultimatum.
Starting point is 00:35:33 It's because I've got this big new role. And, of course, because it was a lie, it collapsed very quickly. And especially since Tina Brown weighed in there and did so. immediately and then people just didn't believe it, but in fact, it's not thought Guy Ritchie would be interested in Megan for any reason at all, but she did clearly want the focus to be on the possibility of having future roles, after all, I mean, she was Rachel Zain in suits, and of course that is what made her originally. And what she's done subsequently, I seem to recall that she did the commentary for a Disney movie called Elephants, for some reason it comes back
Starting point is 00:36:14 to mind. But she hasn't done anything else. specifically. She's recently, of course, played herself in a movie. She said, I can't see her playing anybody else at the moment, quite honestly. But you never know this sort of diversion. It was very useful to her. And I think it may have got some people, I think she
Starting point is 00:36:30 should have wished them to be talking about the possibility of her getting roles in some form. Because I think that you know, as ever is, we've got the jam and the flour sprinkles and all the rest of it. And there's lots of debate as to how
Starting point is 00:36:46 well it's doing, whether it's sold out or whether it didn't or whatever, but she's still got it to still keeping it going, but we don't know how well it's doing. I think she would like, just my suspicion, I think she'd like something which involved acting because this was, as I say, how she made a name originally. And I'd never seen since, but apparently it was successful. I mean, moderately. I mean, you know, she's probably the luckiest woman in the world. Tiny bit of talent, managed to snare a prince, had a golden opportunity to change the world, and instead found that she actually was a destructive force. And I think that is the problem with Megan Markle. She always ends up being a destructive force. And my worry, my fear, is that she becomes
Starting point is 00:37:42 a destructive force back in this country. And I don't think we can really handle it at the moment as a country either, to be honest, more division, Mike, caused by these two. I mean, I think people have forgotten how bad the Oprah interview was, the Netflix documentary was, and spare was. I mean, actually, if you go back and watch the Netflix documentary, Mike, much of it was set up, not just to talk about how terrible the royal family was and how racist the royal family was and how they were bully. There was part of it that was about that, but actually a lot of it was about us, about our country, about how the Commonwealth was something that was terribly racist and colonialist and really an undoing of the late Queen's Life work. But then also,
Starting point is 00:38:33 the focus on the United Kingdom as a place post-Brexit, a focus on the fact that Brexit voters were in some way backward and racist and that Tommy Robinson supporters were wrong. I mean, that Netflix documentary even, for example, took issue with the late Great Anne Whitakim and tried to paint her as some type of destructive force. And my view, Mike, is that the political class might have moved on from that. The mainstream media might have moved on from that. They might want some type of great comeback story. But I don't think the British people have forgotten the way that we were derided by Prince Harry and Megan Markle?
Starting point is 00:39:12 No, I don't think they have. And again, you know, Megan Markle basically doesn't subscribe to the sort of the Walter Badghaus type distinction between the efficient and dignified parts of the Constitution. Markle basically wants to politicise
Starting point is 00:39:30 her role in office to advance her own ideological agenda. And you know, obviously her career as well. You know, look at the archetypes podcast. You know, back in, I think, 2022, she
Starting point is 00:39:46 basically defended the concept of wokeism. Yeah. She said that, you know, woke is, what did she say? It means you're alerts to injustice. Yeah. Yeah. And any criticism of her, she did a whole episode basically
Starting point is 00:40:02 saying any criticism of me as an angry black woman. You're just all, you're buying into a trope, you know, it's just a racist trope. And never was she able to look at herself and actually think, have I done anything with my behaviour? And actually, Father Calvin, given your base in America, I did want to ask you about this new report coming out of the New York Post that the maids in Montecito don't even want to work for it. Now, that was an extraordinary piece of information for me, Father Calvin, because you know, and let's just be honest about it,
Starting point is 00:40:33 the vast majority of these maids who are working in California are illegal immigrants. who don't have the documentation, most of them come from Mexico or South America. And I mean, if the maids are saying you're too terrible to work for, I mean, this is damning, and it's not a one-off story, Father Calvin. This is like now so commonplace that no one wants to work for her. I did see this story. It wasn't shocking at all. It's quite sad, actually.
Starting point is 00:41:04 She's clearly a bit of a, I mean, I'm not a psychologist, but she's clearly a bit of a narcissist or something to that extent where she looks down upon people beneath her in a way to bring herself up. And that's very, very demeaning to serve your roles. And to have the fact that all these maids don't want to work in her household shows how unpleasant she is behind the scenes. Anyone who's, you know, married a prince who's come from nothing, you know, like I said, did a bit of acting, fairly, okay. But from a very working class background, managed to marry a prince of the United Kingdom should be like living as a princess, should be the nice. this kindest, most sparkling person in the world.
Starting point is 00:41:41 And if she's still occupying the role of a monster, it says there's something dark and deep within her that she needs to battle. There are insecurities there. She needs to get over, work through. And to put that onto other people is a shame, really, because these people are just doing their job. Yeah, and can I just say, because,
Starting point is 00:41:57 and I will respect the family privacy, but unlike Meghan Markle, I keep closely in touch with the Markle family. Because, you know, it's not just the Royal family. It's not just the Winsers who were doing. deeply betrayed by Megan. Megan has a father literally pretty close to her. I mean, he's living in a different place now and I won't reveal the location of where for obvious reasons, but she has a father who is back in America, who is recovering from a leg amputation and who is
Starting point is 00:42:29 doing really well, by the way, with the support of his other children. And Megan has still not even checked in, has not even checked in since he returned back to her country. I just always in all of this want to make the point that there is another family. You know, we think a lot about the royal family and the impact of Prince William and Catherine, but there is another family in America who are suffering, who don't have money, who don't want their money, by the way, but I just never forget the Markle family in all of this. And I know lots of people are asking over Thomas Markle and I just wanted to let you all know that he is doing incredibly well with his recovery in America very, very well and being supported by Megan's sister, Samantha Markle, who remember
Starting point is 00:43:18 is in a wheelchair herself, you know, and they have nothing and Megan doesn't give a damn about them. Lots of commentary coming in from our outspoken audience, as you can imagine. Erin Dell 7879, who is a new member of Outspoken Plus, says, not a chance. in hell, Megan will be happy living in this country at all. She always wants to be the center of attention and be loved everywhere she goes. It's never going to happen in the UK. The last thing Megan will want to do is live as a private citizen. She wants paparazzi following her everywhere. Ryan Jones says Harry was born second, marry someone else's seconds, ruined his life in seconds, and ended up playing second fiddle to his wife. Like what you did there. Lady Suffolk says they
Starting point is 00:44:05 only, they have only come back to get the security. Harry and Meegain want that. Then they will go back to America. They are scammers. Honestly, I'm a big believer in that. I really think the security is critical to this. Harry doesn't want to pay the $5 million a year that he's having to pay at the moment. Cheryl Rollins, 4998s, is self-entitled, no class and just use claims of racism to get what she wanted.
Starting point is 00:44:35 And rhubarb custard. Rubab and custard is a great combination, isn't it? It says King Charles isn't at the end of his life. He could live for years. He is using his health to allow Harry back. And of course, Prince Harry is nominated. As one of our Union Jackass nominees today, get your votes coming in, keep your superchats coming in.
Starting point is 00:44:58 I will read them at the end of the show. Not many celebrity death announcements, especially one of a lady of 80 years old, stop and unify the Western world. But Dolly Parton's death overnight, after a mercifully short cancer battle, did just that. Dolly was just the greatest. Like, and I don't mean the greatest in any industry or any particular area of life. She was the greatest. I had the pleasure of getting to know her, and I know that.
Starting point is 00:45:33 So as newspaper front pages were cleared, as special reports interrupted linear TV channels and social media became a single issue platform with brilliant tributes like one from The Simpsons. This was a moment we will all remember, just like we will all remember where we were when we learned of the death of Elvis Presley or Michael Jackson or the woman who Dolly made an icon in Whitney Houston. And country music star, Dolly Parton, has passed away. Her family have said in a statement in the last few moments. She was 80 years of age. Some very sad news to start the evening exchange this evening. And that is that Dolly Parton, the country singer, has died. She was a living legend.
Starting point is 00:46:23 She died at 80. Well, we're coming on the air because music legend, Dolly Parton, is dead at the age of age. 80. She was one of the most unifying forces in American culture. We're interrupting your regular programming and coming on the air because legendary actress, singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur, Dolly Parton, has passed away at the age of 80. Fox News Alert, Dolly Parton dead at 80 years old after a battle with cancer. We're starting this Tuesday afternoon with some very sad news.
Starting point is 00:46:56 Dolly Parton, the icon singer, actress. She dies at 80 years old. Now I know from lots of my own discussions with Dolly just how much she adored the 9 to 5 musical and what a success it had become in the UK. You can imagine what happened when the news of her death was announced to an unsuspecting and devastated audience. Good evening. Before we begin tonight's performance of 9 to 5, we would like to take a moment to remember the remarkable Dolly Parton who was sadly passed away today. 9 to 5 was originally written and produced by Dolly, whose extraordinary talent, creativity and spirit are woven into every part of this work. Tonight, we will perform the piece as she intended with great respect and affection for the woman whose vision brought it to life. Our thoughts are with Dolly's family, friends and all those around the world who loved and admired her. So as we begin, we dedicate tonight's performance to Dolly Parton.
Starting point is 00:48:03 With our deepest thanks for the music, laughter, and joy she gave us. Thank you, Dolly. And Dolly would absolutely have wanted the show to go on. Of course, Channel 4 News in the UK tried to make Dolly's death about politics, but the rest of us realised that the beauty of Dolly Parton, why we loved Dolly Parton is that she stood above politics. I saw her that not being political. When she appeared on the stage, there were others that were very political.
Starting point is 00:48:47 She decided not to be. I guess she knew that her audience was both Republican and Democrat, who cut across political lines. You can't get involved in things like that. She knew that. She was an amazing business woman, as well as an iconic artist. And you just can't put yourself out there like that. You know, you have to stay on the fence, I'm afraid.
Starting point is 00:49:10 Keep your thoughts to yourself. Okay, that's interesting. I'm sure there are quite a few musicians that would disagree with that. In the past few moments, Miley Cyrus, the goddaughter of Dolly Parton, has released her own emotional statement. Writing on X, the feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly
Starting point is 00:49:27 is beyond what feels right to share. Our most sacred moments were private and they'll stay there behind the stage, beneath the glamour, and between our hearts. What I know is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it and then continue on and be strong. I have an angel by my side. I always have. One of our last conversations was about music and metamorphoses. I will always love her and want to make her proud. My heart breaks for the world, her family and friends who will miss her deeply. We're in the sloss together and we will see her in all of the most beautiful things.
Starting point is 00:50:03 Now, Dolly had a huge respect for her fans, a huge respect for the public. And so while she didn't want to announce her diagnosis while she was alive, she wanted full transparency after she slipped away. So in a statement, her reps confirmed that she did die after a brief battle with cancer, even though they did not disclose the type of cancer. They said, our beloved Dolly Parton spent her life and career bringing joy, laughter, hope and integrity into everything she touched. Her unmatched generosity reached the lives of countless people whom she would never meet, yet she was always there to offer a helping hand, whether it be the hundreds of millions of books donated through her invaluable imagination library or funding research that helped create a life-saving vaccine used around the world,
Starting point is 00:50:45 dolly's unconditional love for all people was the guiding force for her lasting impact. After bravely facing a brief battle with Cancer Dolly departed her earthly life today at the Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Centre surrounded by loved ones. She'd given her last interview just four days before her death, revealing I still have so many things I want to achieve. She said, it's not like I haven't been through hard times with my health. But I think because we live in a 24-7 world with social media, everything gets magnified in ways it wasn't years ago. I used to joke that I was the queen of the tabloids, but now I guess I can say I'm the queen of social media, AI. Seriously though, even though I'm still healing, I'm still working,
Starting point is 00:51:28 you know me as I've often stared, I've dreamed myself into a corner and I still have so many things I want to achieve so I'm going to keep on working as long as I can see to everything come to life. This was the last time we saw Dolly. I had my butterfly wings have happened since May 15 when we were due to the first time and again in June. And I know we have to make sure that this is the safest since it is the biggest and most expensive ride that we have ever added to Darlingwood. So we're going to open on today. That's why I'm doing, because my little
Starting point is 00:52:11 born in front of all wings, I get me kind of tall. Now, I've told you before, for my fans, that I've had a few little health issues, and sometimes I get a little dizzy, and I get the hotweed, and I'm the hardrail. And so my nice little boxers kind of clipped my wings, saying, you ain't traveled. week. So I guess if you don't tell you, you ain't traveling this week, you ain't
Starting point is 00:52:38 traveled this week. But I like to keep all in the moon, like I saw that word, on everything. So all is going well on the medical and things and I continue working away on all of our old projects, like the Songteller Hotel and the Life of Many Colors Museum here in Nashville, and the Broadway musical in New York, and that he's taken a lot of time. But let's just say I've talked to me about me. What do you think? Eugene, folks, you talk about them before a while. I'm just kidding. I do want you to tell everybody about our break you ride, night flight expedition, and you have fun, and I will see you down the road. She wasn't well. Now, one of the great pleasures and honors of my former career was getting to meet
Starting point is 00:53:34 Dolly and spend time with her in both Nashville, her beloved Nashville that she introduced me to and London as well. And during those encounters, I did want to discuss Dolly's legacy for this exact moment. And I want to share some of what she said about it because it's really important. Her words are so important. Dolly didn't want to be a victim ever, by the way. She knew, and this is such an important, I think in the moment that society finds itself, she knew that men were not the enemy. Men were not the enemy of women. And women had a responsibility to watch. On a personal level, though, you were actually always very, very confident in tackling
Starting point is 00:54:26 some of those sexual harassment type situations. I mean, you spoke a couple of years ago about the fact one man who tried it on inappropriately with you, you got out of gum. So you were taking no nonsense, darling. Well, now, you've got to, you know, I'm lucky than a lot of women because I grew up a country girl. I grew up with all my boy cousins and all my six brothers and my dad, my uncles, and I loved them, you know, and we were, you know, it's like I've just known every kind of personality. So everybody I meet, I see somebody in my family. And like I said, I'm like Will Rogers, I never met a man I didn't like. I've just met.
Starting point is 00:55:03 some I like more than others. But I just, like I said, at the music cares thing, it's like I've never met a man I didn't like, but I never met one I couldn't kick his ass if he didn't treat me with the respect he should. And so. And that is the message, isn't it? But I think so too.
Starting point is 00:55:18 I think, like I say, this is all, a lot of women are not respected as it should be, but a lot of women are not respecting themselves to the degree that they should. So we need to be mindful as women. We've got our opportunities and good chances and a lot of wonderful things are happening to us, but we need to be mindful of who we are as well.
Starting point is 00:55:38 And I never thought of it in terms of being a girl or a boy. I was just a person that wrote, I liked this thing, and I just went to Nashville with a big dream, and I wasn't thinking about, oh, girls, ain't getting a chance. I just thought, well, I'm going to take a chance, and I'm going to hopefully make a change, and I've been lucky. But I've been writing songs about women from day one,
Starting point is 00:56:01 early on in my career. Dolly's faith was everything to her. She actually woke up at 3 a.m. every day for what she described as her spiritual work time, her God time. Now Dolly, is it true that you wake up at 3 a.m. every morning? Can that really be? I'm always awake by 3 o'clock every morning.
Starting point is 00:56:24 Let's put it that way. I'm up and down. I don't require a lot of sleep. I'm one of those people that I sleep like maybe three hours. I'll get up and do something. and maybe lay down and read myself back to sleep. But I'm always up and working. And I mean, I can't get my head around at your 73.
Starting point is 00:56:39 Now you look incredible. 37, I flipped it around. That's the best way to be. And so can you give any insight into your routine? I mean, how do you, with so little sleep, still look so incredible? Do you have a routine that you go through every morning? Well, I do my routine, but it's not about my physical self. about my spiritual self. I wake up and do my spiritual work and my scriptures and do my little
Starting point is 00:57:08 affirmation and do whatever my, a lot of my creative time. I write a lot of songs in the wee hours because to me that's kind of like my God time. And so I just love the morning. I just love to get up when everybody else is asleep. Everybody's energies died down and I just feel there's a calmness that I feel like I can communicate better with the powers it be. You know, when things. are kind of quiet. Dolly was driven by faith and her marriage. And so the death of her husband, Carl Dean, last year rocked her in ways I think people don't understand.
Starting point is 00:57:42 Dollywood is getting bigger. No, it is. We've got a lot of wonderful things going on. But I wake up with new dreams every day. I have to be responsible for the one that I've seen come true. You know, I always say, you want to become true. You've got to actually still work those as well. I'm hoping to, I've still got a lot of new dreams.
Starting point is 00:58:02 I want to start my own line of makeup, hair, wigs, all sorts of things, my brand with all those kind of things. So I've got a lot to do. So I just kind of, I think energy keeps me alive and keeps me younger. And your husband, you've done it with the support of him too along the way. Well, my husband is great. We've been married 53 years this coming May, and he's always been out of the line by it.
Starting point is 00:58:27 He loves to stay home and I love to stay gone, and that's why we've left it's so long. On another occasion, we turn the cameras off to go a bit more in depth about her legacy and her life. And I know it's not ideal on a visual medium like YouTube, but I just want us to listen now.
Starting point is 00:58:46 It's interesting, Dolly, thinking of your legacy and how people are now looking at it in a different way in 2018 and connected to that whole area. I don't know if you saw recently, but an interview that you gave back in the 70, with Barbara Walters has gone viral online and being viewed millions and millions of times because
Starting point is 00:59:05 Barbara was pretty tough on you and commented that people considered you to be a joke and questioned why you looked the way that you look. And your answer, which was all about modern day femininity, having confidence with how you look, but also what you were like inside, is actually what people say today. So you were very ahead of your time, but it's interesting that here was another game-changing woman actually criticizing you back then. Oh, I think Barbara just did those very stern things. She asked questions she thought people wanted to know and pointed out things that were obvious. So I didn't take offense to that at all. I really enjoy being able to express myself and to say who and what I am.
Starting point is 00:59:55 And actually, even at that time, I don't know if that was the same interview that I had predicted. about Dollywood, you know, that I was going to start a theme park. So I really had a lot of dreams then, and Barbara did a wonderful job with me. But I was happy to say, hey, I may look artificial, but where it counts, I'm real. And years later, I wrote the little backwards Barbie song that's also in the musical. Tonight, it kind of talks about a country girl's idea of glamour. But my look was always from a serious place, you know, and I just felt more comfortable being and overdone and all that.
Starting point is 01:00:30 And so she was right about that. And I was right about who I was and still am. So I love that. She would not criticize Barbara Walters. This is the interview she's talking about. One of the moments for you and Carl that I guess was like, You don't have to look like this. You're very beautiful.
Starting point is 01:00:49 You don't have to wear the blonde wigs. You don't have to wear the extreme clothes, right? No, it's certainly a choice. I don't like to be like everybody else. I've often made this statement that I would never stoop so low as to be fashionable. That's the easiest thing in the world to do. So I just decided that I would do something that would at least get the attention. Once they got past the shock of the ridiculous way I looked and all that,
Starting point is 01:01:12 then they would see there was parts of me to be appreciated. I'm very real where it counts, and that's inside, and as far as my outlook on life and the way I care about people and the way I care about myself and the things that I care about. But I just chose to do this and show business is a money-making joke and I just always like telling jokes. But do you ever feel that you're a joke, that people make fun of you? Oh, I know they make fun of me.
Starting point is 01:01:40 But actually all these years, the people, you know, has thought the joke was on me, but it's actually been on the public. I know exactly what I'm doing and I can change it at any time. The other big moment that changed Dolly Parton's life and I want to discuss it with her because it mattered. was when she lost the medical ability to become a mother. One of the moments for you and Carl that I guess was life-changing is when you had the hysterectomy and when you were just 36 years old.
Starting point is 01:02:09 And I do wonder, Dolly, if you ever look back and think about whether you could have achieved what you've achieved professionally and gone on to build this empire, if you had of being able to become a mum. Well, I don't know. probably chances are not but that wasn't meant to be I look at everything like it happened the way that it was supposed to because I'm pretty sure if I'd had kids
Starting point is 01:02:33 I would not have done as much but I really look back on that now and then when I see like the imagination library and all the things I do I always think well maybe God didn't mean for me to have children so everybody's children could be mine she said this is how she avoided those downsides of the entertainment industry
Starting point is 01:02:51 that killed so many of her contemporaries And of course faith is so important to you Dolly, isn't it even today? And you do think that there is a path set for you in your life? Yes, I do. I always say, even if I knew for a fact there was no God, I would choose to believe it. I think we need to, and I do believe it, though, because I work every day with that higher wisdom, whether it's your better self or whatever people want to call it. It works for me because I think we need to believe in something bigger than us,
Starting point is 01:03:21 or we have major ego problems or major depression or major something where you don't feel like you've got the help you need. But for me, though, my whole life has been centered around that. Every day I talk to God like he's my best friend. I talk things out. I just kind of work things out like that. And I expect, you know, it's like I do. You know, it's the best.
Starting point is 01:03:44 I mean, we all have to pay our prices, you know, for our blessings. But as the scripture says, to whom much. is given, much is expected. So I feel like that I'm out here on a path that I believe to be the one that I'm supposed to be on, and I choose to rely on my faith. And Dolly's life was not all sweetness and light. Indeed, her early career hampered by serious bouts of depression. Note the use, though, of her trademark self-deprecating humour. And back in the 60s, though, you have opened up about the fact there was a time when you were plunged into depression, I think, after the end of the relationship.
Starting point is 01:04:22 Everybody has, people always say to me, oh, you always seems to be smiling. You always seem like you're so happy. I said, that's the Botox. But seriously. But honestly, I'm a very sensitive person. I'm a writer, and I cannot harden my heart. I've often said that I've strengthened the muscles around it.
Starting point is 01:04:42 But I have to leave myself wide open to feel things in order to write and all that. But, yeah, I hurt. When I hurt, I hurt all over. I laugh. I laugh all over. It's like I feel everything, you know, to the nth degree. And back during a time when I was going through, you know, I had gained a lot of weight and I was going through kind of a change. I was having a lot of the, you know, female problems that led to some other things. And it was just a hard time in my life. And I'd never actually, I'd never slowed down long enough to even pay attention to myself. And it was just at that time. And so I was very,
Starting point is 01:05:17 you know, I went through a very dark valley. But I think we need to in order to come out of out and see, test our faith. One of those moments where she was particularly hurt was after the death of Whitney Houston. I do wonder if some of your longevity in the industry is because you did so strongly stay away from drugs. And then you look at someone like Whitney Houston who obviously your career or her career became so intrinsically linked with you, Dolly. I remember speaking to you in Nashville quite soon after Whitney's funeral, where they played,
Starting point is 01:05:50 I will love you as the casket left the church. That was one of the, when they lifted that casket up and, even right now, and they started into my song like that and her voice, it's just, you have no idea how that hit me. It was just like, it was like a dagger, you know, in my heart. It was just amazing. And I thought, and I just felt so sad, such a great talent. Just like Michael or Elvis and a lot of the other greats that, you know,
Starting point is 01:06:19 that have gone down with that. But my faith has, and I have good friends, good family, that I rely on that more than anything else. So I never, I was always too busy. I never wanted to get on anything. I was going to mess with my brains. I wanted to write songs. I wanted to think.
Starting point is 01:06:36 I wanted to stay clear. And she concluded by telling me in five words, it's been a wonderful life. My favorite Dolly Parton song ever is my Tennessee Mountain High. Oh, see, that one, who there's just, I have 100 and hundreds and hundreds and hundreds. You do. And what's incredible, Dolly, is that for a long time,
Starting point is 01:06:56 you probably weren't recognized for your songwriting prowess, but over the past three decades since you were inducted into the Songwriting Hall of Fame in 1991, that has really changed. And it's so hard to be a songwriter and a front woman and a singer to do it for so many decades. And it feels like all three aspects remain as important. Well, they are important. I'd hate to ever separate it. I do take my, if I had to just do one thing, I'd probably choose to write songs because that's something, you know, everybody can't do. And I love leaving something in the world, you know, today that wasn't there yesterday. And other people can record those. So I would, I would get off on that. But I love the idea of that I've been allowed to and been able to express myself as an entertainer, as a singer, as a writer. I've been, it's been a wonderful life.
Starting point is 01:07:49 It's been a wonderful life. Yes, it has. And of course, Dolly always had fun too. So I thought today I've dressed for it. I've got my What Would Dolly Do? T-shirt. I love that. And I wanted to play a little bit of a game.
Starting point is 01:08:05 Okay, what would Dolly do? So on one side you've got Dolly Wooden. On one side, you've got Dolly Wood. And so can I challenge you, Dolly? What would Dolly do? Would you ever wear a pair of flat shoes? Dolly wouldn't. Would you ever move to the UK?
Starting point is 01:08:25 Maybe. I like that. Would you ever join the spice skills, Dolly? Because you know they're looking for another member for their tour. Well, that's a shame. You'd be great. Well, I can't dance. They'd be great.
Starting point is 01:08:35 They do a lot of good dancing. I ain't that good shape. Would you ever leave the house without makeup? Good call. Not unless my husband was done and I'd have to think about that. And finally, would Dolly ever retire? No. Yes.
Starting point is 01:08:54 What would I do without? No. That's what I liked here. Dolly, you are an inspiration. And would I ever spake you with this? Dolly would. Yes, let's do it. Dolly, do you know what?
Starting point is 01:09:08 You're an inspiration. You're a total legend. Oh, she was to the superstar panel. Mike Jones, the techno populist and father Calvin Robinson. Father Calvin, there were two things I wanted to talk to you about in regards to Dolly. Firstly, her faith. But secondly, something I'm not going to avoid. I've seen a lot of notes about this in the live chat and over the past 24 hours. Maybe some people feel that Dolly shouldn't have got involved in the vaccine. Yeah, on both those points, I'm glad you asked her
Starting point is 01:09:44 about her faith twice in those interviews, great interviews, by the way. It was nice to see that because it was something I was going to bring up in that she said she professes to be a Christian and she owes her success and her great life to God. And I think all of us do, but it's nice to hear people in the public life saying these things. But I didn't know the part about her waking up at 3am and praying first and foremost. And this is something I teach my congregation.
Starting point is 01:10:06 This is something we should all do as Christians, spend a bit of time the first thing we do and the last thing we do, thanking God for this day and preparing for the next day and looking over our sins and thinking how we can do better and try to be holy and try to get close to him. That's a marvelous thing to hear that she did, as well as the Christian songwriting that she contributed to as well. All that's lovely.
Starting point is 01:10:25 But you are quite right that people have been pointing out en masse that she had some things to say about the vaccines. I mean, I had some things to say about COVID in that first month before I woke up. I'm sure many people did. Even if we didn't, none of us are perfect is the point. And when someone dies, what we try to do is celebrate their life. We pray for them and we hope that they go to heaven.
Starting point is 01:10:46 We celebrate the good things in their life. To focus on the bad parts of a person's life. once they've died, it says more about you than it does that person. Like, no single person on earth is perfect other than Jesus Christ. So we all have things that people could point out about us. You know, I hope that one day when I die, people say, yeah, he stood for the faith, you know, you challenge GB News, he stood for free speech, things like that. I don't want them to say, oh yeah, he wasn't quite writing that first month for COVID.
Starting point is 01:11:09 That would be, you know, that would be sad. And so I think we should all think about what would we want people to say about us when we die. Do we want them to focus on our family, on our strengths? or do we want them to focus on the negative parts, you know, that we've hopefully repented of? Just a bit of reflection, I think, food for thought for the people obsessing over the negatives rather than looking at all the great contributions that someone like Dolly Parton, an icon contributed to our society. Country music is frontier music, it is the icon of America.
Starting point is 01:11:38 And so she led the way in that for a long, long time. So many people should be thankful. Indeed, because Mike Jones, I mean, there are so few. celebrities today that perhaps the debate about the vaccine to one side can unify. This was a death that was not politicised, did not become part of the culture war. She was beloved, in part because she stayed out of politics. Yeah, I mean, Dolly Parton was an absolute force of nature. I'll tell you a story.
Starting point is 01:12:15 really. I worked in the Welsh Assembly many, many years ago. This is going back about 15 years. And I knew a politician. His name was Brinley Williams. Brinley very tragically died of cancer. He was a Tory politician, but he was an anti-politician at the same time. He led the anti-sortals against the Labour Party. You know, he was a farmer. He loved his cobs. Big Dog fan, very committed to the rural community. but he went to the United States with his wife, Mary, and they had tickets to watch Dolly Parton. And there was this really sort of swish guy, you know, properly suited. You know, he had the Rolex and everything.
Starting point is 01:13:02 And he basically offered Brinley $3,000 to buy his tickets, the Dolly Parton concert. Brinley basically smiled and laughed and said, thank you very much. I wouldn't miss this for the world. And, you know, I'm a massive Dolly Parton fan. I mean, the thing you've got to realize about her is her music. Yeah, she's country, right? But it comes from an Appalachian mountain sort of tradition within the United States. You know, it's plain spoken, storytelling.
Starting point is 01:13:36 You've got that sort of those folk tinged melodies. And she, you know, Dolly has that sort of high distinctive twang to her voice. And she's just a great storyteller. And she's not just a musician. She's a, you know, a philanthropist, a businesswoman. And she does a lot of work for our local community as well. And my God, we're going to miss her. We are.
Starting point is 01:14:03 We really are. We really are. It was not the news. The world needed. Rest and peace, Ollie Parton. Breaking today. ex-BBC Titan, Andrew Neill, has said the corporation itself is now over after the decision to access its failing flagship news show Newsnight after 46 years. In a desperate attempt to save money, the beep scrambling to cut back £500 million with the Victoria Derbyshire hosted show to end by the end of next year. And in the Daily Mail, the former host of Newsnight briefly, Andrew Neill has said the decision calls into question the entire future. of the Beeb, as he reveals his own hosting bid on the show was sabotaged by BBC leftists.
Starting point is 01:14:50 Now, at its peak, Newsnight was a very different beast. It used to invite guests on that the corporation wouldn't touch with a barge pole today, and they were actually allowed to speak. Like when Tommy Robinson, I mean, imagine this. Tommy Robinson on Newsnight today, but that is exactly what happened in 2013 when he left the English Defence League. Well, Tommy Robinson is here. precisely did you decide that you had to leave? I decided in February. I spent 18 weeks on Her Majesty's pleasure and I was on solitary confinement and it was the best thing that happened to me because I had a long time to think about where I
Starting point is 01:15:30 was going, I know strange to sleep, strange that, but where I was going, where the movement was going and what I want and then when I come out of prison I see the organisation elements of the organisation fringe elements that were on the outskirts had been welcomed back. I'd back. I'd back. I've battled for four years to keep racist, Nazis, extremists out of this movement. I've battled and dedicated my life to it. These days, Newsnight would be derided as far right for that interview. But even Anne Coulter used to be a regular.
Starting point is 01:15:58 What do you make of the comment of someone like Bill O'Reilly of Fox News who says that kind of vitriol is, as he puts it, mean and counterproductive to the right-wing cause? Obviously, I think he's wrong or I wouldn't have written. I believe everything I wrote in my book and I'd write it the way I wrote it. Even with the strong encouragement of Bill O'Reilly, his own Latin American poll showed that most of his viewers, certainly, certainly most of the people who responded to his poll, which he kept open for a week, agreed with me with 72% supporting.
Starting point is 01:16:35 Much higher in other polls. You have no anxiety that many people will just look at this and find it so extreme and so absurd. that they won't countenance a more reasoned critique of the liberal establishment, as you see it? The more reasoned critiques, as you put it, aren't the number one book in America, and mine is. So I think I'm doing just fine.
Starting point is 01:16:59 Okay, Hank Coulter, thank you. Can you imagine it today? No, these days, Victoria Derbyshire wants to sit down with people like the hardlifters drag queen, Bimini. Obviously, we need flats. We need accommodations. And then also these places often are in places like Soho or somewhere that isn't known to be necessarily a residential area. And then the big flats are put up and, you know, it takes out the soul and the heart and the grit of it.
Starting point is 01:17:26 And I think it's so important to have that. And, you know, I think there needs to be licensing. Licensing needs to go into the agent of change law. So, you know, I think flats or developers should pay for soundproofing. I think it shouldn't come at the cost of the venue. I think the venues are there already. and I think that if a person is going to develop somebody somewhere, they should put the proper soundproofing in so that it won't affect the people.
Starting point is 01:17:50 I mean, compare it to what used to happen on Newsnight. Remember Paxman's infamous grilling of the then-tory Minister Michael Howard? I was not entitled to instruct Derek Lewis, and I did not instruct him. Did you threaten to overrule him? The truth of the matter is that Mr Marriott, was not suspended. Did you threaten to overrule him? I did not overrule Derek Lewis. Did you threaten to overrule him? I took advice on what I could or could not do and I acted scrupulously in accordance with that advice. I did not overrule Derek Lewis. Did you threaten to overrule him? Mr. Marriott was not suspended. Did you threaten to overrule him?
Starting point is 01:18:32 I have accounted for my decision to dismiss Derek Lewis in great detail before the House of Commons. I note you're not answering the question whether you threatened to overrule him. The important aspect of this, which it's very clear to bear in mind... I'm sorry, I'm going to be frightfully rude, but... Yes, you can... You can... You can put the question, and I would give you an answer. Did you threaten to overrule him?
Starting point is 01:18:58 I discussed this matter with Derek Lewis. I gave him the benefit of my opinion. I gave him the benefit of my opinion in strong language. But I did not instruct him, because I was not entitled to instruct him. I was entitled to express my opinion, and that is what I did. With respect, that is not answering the question of whether you threatened to overrule. Respectful, strong. Those were the days. Now Newsnight, just let's guess, deride, Restore Britain, Rupert Lowe's party is far right and racist,
Starting point is 01:19:30 with no evidence and no pushback. Then he looks to his right, and breathing down his neck is Rupert Lowe's Restore Party, a far right party. There you have it from both Jonathan Friedland and Andy Street. So it's only been a month, but so far the new prime minister's been able to demonstrate that you can build a popular front against a far right party. And in fact, that's what you need to do. So this is why Andrew Neal has argued today in the Daily Mail that the end of news night is actually the end of the BBC.
Starting point is 01:20:02 And I don't disagree with him, actually. I think he is correct. because he says if the BBC is no longer prepared to invest in high-quality current affairs journalism, it does raise a rather fundamental question. What exactly then is the BBC for? In a world of wash with news and increasingly fake news, there must surely still be a market for impartial, intelligent, authoritative analysis of the news. And if a public service broadcast like the BBC is not in the business of providing it at scale and properly funded, then what exactly is its purpose? He says these are strange times at the BBC, increasingly struck with a death wish of a
Starting point is 01:20:39 its own making, that is because of the funding model that it wants. And he says the BBC are making lots of fatal errors, including this, what has the BBC ever done for me campaign, fronted by the comedian. I put that in inverted commas, Romesh, Ranga, Nathan, he's never made me laugh. Highlighting shows like East End is strictly the traitors, Doctor Who and casualty, but only giving news a partial, passing reference. He says, BBC fails lamentably. Just look at its sycophantic coverage with the rise of the late Jason Radee, which ended in such tragedy. Even the old Newsnight couldn't hide its left-leaning instincts, though he says he saw that at first hand. So over 20 years ago, top BBC exec thought it was a good
Starting point is 01:21:28 idea for him to join Newsnight's team of presenters, and he was then sabotaged. Andrew Neal writes this was not popular with the left-wing producers. Even so, I was given a couple of trial shows to front. I bounded in with Tigger-like enthusiasm to be greeted like a Hamas commander looking in on a bar mitzvah. Yet my guest spots went well. Even the Guardian wrote that the ratings had been the best for some time. Things were looking good. But as I turned to say goodbye in the final trial show for some reason, the auto queue had reverted to the opening of the show. Hello and welcome to Newsnight. I read off the script before freezing in embarrassment. A technical glitch Sabotage, who knows. But the young lefty production team was delighted. My newsnight career was over
Starting point is 01:22:12 before it began. Somehow Newsnight survived without me, perhaps not for much longer. Yet questions about its future come at a good time for this is about so much more than Newsnight. Do we really need so-called public service broadcasting in the digital age? If so, how should it be funded? And on what priorities should these funds be spent? Until those questions are honestly addressed, it's not just the future of Newsnight at stake. It's the future of the BBC. To the superstar. panel, Mike Jones, the techno-populist and Father Calvin Robertson, Father, you have been a long campaigner to defund the BBC. And actually, I think Andrew Neal is right. Not often I say that. Not often I say that. But the decline of Newsnight, Father Calvin, really is totally indicative
Starting point is 01:22:51 of the decline of the BBC. I think the two things intrinsically linked. Andrew Neal is right. And his article is very, very interesting. I think he's spot on him that if the BBC can't do things like this, partial hardcore reporting. journalism. If they can't do journalism, there's no point in the BBC. It's supposed to inform as well as educate and entertain. And if it can't do that, what is it there for? Well, just state propaganda. It's a PR machine. If it's just the BBC telling you to get your jabs, then that's not what people are paying their license fee money for. But I've been saying for years now, people should stop paying their license fee money. It is a TV tax. You shouldn't have to pay the BBC for the right to watch other channels
Starting point is 01:23:31 in real time. It's disgraceful what they do with our money. And I think, where Andrew Neil was also interesting is when he talks about the potential sabotage from the lefty liberal producers because I personally have been through that at our former employee. I remember them changing my auto queue while I'm live on air reading the script that I've written. Because those
Starting point is 01:23:50 GB News producers hated you father, let's be honest. Astonishing. They want to check out. In fact, I remember producers trying to tell you what to say when Lawrence Fox had been naughty, you were like, no, and I say what I want to say, thank you very much. But they can be quite, these liberals can be underhanded, let's say.
Starting point is 01:24:04 Yeah, I mean, Mike Jones, it's so fascinating for me to look back at the old news night. And it really adds to this argument, which is that, you know, it's the argument Elon Musk makes all the time. We haven't changed, right? Like, we used to be centrist's and now we're considered far right. Because you look at those interviews that Jeremy Paxman was conducting with the likes of Ann Coulter and Tommy Robinson. I conduct those types of interviews here on outspoken. And I am now considered beyond the, pale, Mike. But he was having those conversations back just a few years ago. It shows you how far to the left the BBC has moved. And it was left wing then, but it's really to the left now. Well, yeah. I mean, Jeremy Paxman is basically a Tory. Andrew Neal is a Conservative Party supporter. The really funny thing about the BBC is they're so professional in what they do. Like, I've been on Newsnight, right? I've seen their staff. I've seen Victoria Derbyshire.
Starting point is 01:25:10 They're just like so professional in what they do. But the problem is the selection of their panelists, right? So you need proper viewpoint diversity and you need to reflect the actual political divisions within the United Kingdom. The BBC is not doing this at this current moment in time. They've abandoned their Raythean spirit. So, you know, for example, when they get a centre-right person on,
Starting point is 01:25:39 it's basically Tim Montgomery and Tim Stanley, right? It's exactly. Who have a point of view, but they're not really right-wing, are they? Not really. They are not representative of current right-wing opinion. This is the problem, right? The Overton window has shifted very, very quickly, and opinion on the right has moved.
Starting point is 01:26:04 very quickly as well. And, you know, what was regarded as controversial during the David Cameron era is not regarded as controversial now. The BBC have not caught up with this. They literally, they're flabbergasted by what's happened and they're sort of panicking. So they're going to their sort of old school people,
Starting point is 01:26:27 you know, the Stanleys and the Montgomery's. And listen, you know, Tim Stanley and Tim Montgomery, they occasionally say very, you know, intelligent stuff, right? But it's not representative of where, right, what your opinion is going. And if you cannot represent debate within the United Kingdom, then you're failing your duty as a public broadcast. Exactly, because they won't have a Father Calvin Robinson on.
Starting point is 01:26:52 They won't have a Lawrence Fox on. They won't have a Charlie Downs on. And that is such a good point, isn't it, Father? Like, sure, there is a Tory right. but that is not indicative anymore. And I think Reform UK are just sort of considered acceptable. Newsnight know they have to have them on, but they're much more likely to have someone on the left of Reform UK on.
Starting point is 01:27:19 And so as a result, this whole idea of balance, you know, Offcom balance, it's sort of meaningless now. Yeah, of course, the BBC doesn't really adhere to offcom. They operate their own accountability. But you're right. in that they are liberal. They are lefty liberals, and they get right-wing or center-right liberals on as well
Starting point is 01:27:38 to offer a balance. So you just get a plethora of liberal opinions and people sitting at home watching, I think, well, they're not reflecting what I think. And that's been a problem with the BBC for at least a decade now. It didn't used to be. It used to have, you know, that clip you showed of Tommy Robinson on. It's quite astonishing today.
Starting point is 01:27:54 I can't imagine them getting any of us on, never mind Tommy Robinson. But the point is they've slipped further and further down that liberal collective group-think mentality. they can't even perceive that people would strongly disagree with them because they are not trying to reflect the audience, they're trying to dictate to the audience, they're lecturing and they're telling the audience what to think, what's appropriate, what's okay, what's good and what's evil. They are the arbiters of morality, essentially, and they've lost their way. Yeah, they really have.
Starting point is 01:28:22 They really have. Okay, standby because we're about to reveal the greatest Britain and union jackass of the day. First, I want to get to your super chats, though. Teresa Holtman, 1630 on this whole idea of Are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle really back in the UK for good reason? Says, what has King Charles III done? Open the floodgates on Prince William and Catherine. The mainstream media is saying it's down to Prince William to be the bigger person. Well, hell no. If Harry became a working royal, gets taxpayer protection after his wife he called us racist and didn't apologize,
Starting point is 01:28:54 then King Charles III should step aside in my opinion. Erindel asks when King Charles passes away, Do you think Harry would live in a country where William is king, knowing that William will never forgive him for everything that he has done? Sean Keegan says, send Harry and it to Jaywick. And Margarita 67 says, hi from Ulters and say condolences for the demise of Dear Dolly Parton and to the UK for the arrival of the Harcalls' brifters. But you are unique, dear Dan.
Starting point is 01:29:23 Oh, thank you, Margarita. That's lovely. On a very sad day after the loss of Dolly Parton, and actually, Ravona offered Jim says Dolly, the icon, stole the attention from these morons tragic that the university lost an icon and now the UK gets these two losers back. Thank you, Dolly. And Prince Harry is nominated by me as today's greatest Britain. But we've got two other contenders. Mike Jones went for Anna Turley. This is because the Labor MP paid tribute to the five thugs who were traveling in a stolen car on the wrong side of the road, while also paying tribute to the actual police officers who
Starting point is 01:30:01 were part of that story, clearly stupid decision for her to do that in my view. And Father Calvin Rembenson went for Mark Leslie. Now, this is the Home Office and Civil Service Diversity Champion who actually hosted a safe space for staff to discuss the campaign to fly the English flag. But Mike and Father Calvin, I'm so sorry because he were just never going to win today. You were just never going to win. You were never going to win. Like Mark Leslie has 5%. Anna Turley has 11%. But on the day that Prince has... Harry arrives back in the United Kingdom, 84% of you say that he is the worst Britain in the world today.
Starting point is 01:30:38 Now, Fair enough. I think it's fair enough, isn't it? And it's also fair enough that I think it is fair enough. I'm sure you both agree that we can have an honorary greatest Britain today, right? That's allowed, Father Calvin, in this case, isn't it? I think it's due. It's world.
Starting point is 01:30:55 When a worldwide global superstar passes away, we can all take a moment to say, make you rest in peace. So I think it's right and proper that Dolly Porton gets it today. It is. And you know what? She loved the United Kingdom. It is also worth pointing out. She loved it here.
Starting point is 01:31:11 She loved spending time here. But of course, you know, she was the ultimate American, wasn't she? But today, we will say she wasn't just the greatest British. She was just the greatest. That was when I was thinking about it. She was just the greatest. And very, very sad day. But Mike Jones, who is known as techno-populist,
Starting point is 01:31:31 You can subscribe to him on X and also on substack. Actually, I just subscribe to your substack overnight, Mike. So everyone else should at Technopopopulus. And Father Calvin, look at what I've got. I showed it at the top of the show. When you weren't here, I was watching you talking about it on the Mike Graham show. And actually Rupert Lowe was saying to me just last week, how he has read this book and he absolutely loves it.
Starting point is 01:31:53 The Silent Jihad exposing the Islamification of the West. And Father, it's not actually available on Amazon. So where can people get it? It's available at shop.newchristianwight.com. And thank you for that, Dan. Brilliant. Father Calvin. And Mike Jones, please come back soon.
Starting point is 01:32:12 Great to have you for the first time, Mike. And we are not done yet, though, in terms of the royal conversation.
