Starting point is 00:00:00 Sanspence Radio. We're walking on sunshine. You know what's better than one nomination? Two nominations. It's the mango principle. One mango is fine, but two mangoes is fucking great. D&D is for Nerds has been nominated for both the People's Choice Award as well as the Hobbies and Games category. Let's make it happen. Let's end this competition
Starting point is 00:00:17 with two mangoes. Remember to vote for all the other Sanspence shows that have been nominated and you can vote daily, so let it become a schedule that consumes you. Let's see how many fucking mangoes we can end this competition with. Details on how to do that are in the show notes below. I love you, bye, enjoy the episode. There's nothing sadder than a group of adults sitting at a table asking each other for pencils, but that is exactly what we are doing today. Welcome to episode 41 of The Indies for Nerds.
Starting point is 00:00:43 As always, I'm Joel Zammett, playing the part of Leo Shadow. To my right, we have Jackson B. Bailey, playing the part of Cassius Christie. Yeah. And to my further right, we have Ali Kathleen, playing the role of Ainsley Foggyfeather. Can I have the clicky pencil? No, it's mine. And as always, our fair-haired DM, Adam Chain Reaction. They're stepping on my name tag.
Starting point is 00:01:06 They're stepping on it. Shut up, Adam. Previously on D&D is for Nance. You know, since the Grayson's armor, Haynes' ring. Rough. I've got a couple of wands in my backpack. You took stuff, didn't you? At the bottom of your pack is a molten sludge.
Starting point is 00:01:26 You said you checked it for traps. I did check for traps. Leo, the book bites you. Ow, son of a bitch. I wonder if that red mon will give me a note saying we killed David. Any good books around, guys? You got a good book in your inventory? We just bought a book.
Starting point is 00:01:40 Inventory. No, it's where you invent things. You have warmed, and I have warmed to you. I do. I'm lovely. We find a ship heading in the same direction you're going. They're not going to Karsari, but they are going to Jaren's Outpost, which is the nearest major settlement to Karsari.
Starting point is 00:02:01 So after killing the wizard on Mara, you're leaving this lonely island on a boat. We're on a boat, guys. All good things happen on a boat. It's a massive one. You're actually part of... This is a small merchant fleet. They trade primarily in the gemstones and precious rocks that are mined around Mara.
Starting point is 00:02:22 He was, like, making out with the little... No, he's cold. He's cold. I put it on my nose. Once every... You actually came at a very opportune time. Once every year, this massive merchant ship brings in supplies, Tamara, from the Dwarven Nation, and then comes back out with gemstones, does a bit of a loop, and then eventually lands back at the Dwarven Lords.
Starting point is 00:02:42 Do we have like a nice little sleeping quarters? Yeah. Sure. All right. Sure, why not? You all have your own rooms. Oh, sick. Yeah, I'm just like...
Starting point is 00:02:53 It's a series of massive ships. Sorry? How's Grayson feeling? Good? Adam's just clicked. I know exactly where this is going. I'm glad they got their own rooms. It's like the choppy waters make Ainsley Randy.
Starting point is 00:03:09 It's true. It's got to be, because every single time we're at water, you're like... I know. It's the salt in the air. Every single time there's water around, there's a little water downstairs. Oh, Adam, you don't know how sex works. No, it's like a flood, right? It's like peeing, but different.
Starting point is 00:03:27 And then you touch butts, right? Pretty much. That's how I've been doing it. Highs or lows? Highs. Highs. Oh, no. Grace has probably got a burn on his penis.
Starting point is 00:03:39 It hurts to get erect. Ainsley has needs. Ainsley does have needs. Just find someone else on the ship. He's not even interested in, like, non-penetrant, or, like, something where he doesn't need to do much. Poor Grayson and you,
Starting point is 00:03:56 Ainsley. I know. It's fine. How about we have a fistfight on the deck? I'm sorry, Ainsley, but for the first time in your life, you have a sexless seahorse. Oh, no. And why won't you let me roll those things? Last time it happened, I got 11 sex.
Starting point is 00:04:13 No, you got... 11 sex you enjoyed. One sex Grayson didn't, from memory, if I recall properly. I don't even care anymore. I'd like to impress everyone by doing push-ups on the deck. I'm just going to show off to whoever the sailors are during the voyage, why not? Okay.
Starting point is 00:04:38 It happens. They're pretty impressed. All right. But they're like dwarves. Like, they can do push-ups too. Your dwarven antics ain't cutting it with
Starting point is 00:04:52 these dwarves. Goddammit. I hate hanging out with dwarves. No dwarf is impressive to another dwarf. Nope. So guys, where are we going? Let's find some gnomes. Jaren's outpost. You've probably been told. What? Jaren's outpost. Why are we going told. What? Jaren's Outpost. Why are we going there?
Starting point is 00:05:05 It's a major city. It's the nearest city that's near Kasturi. Goddamn it. I was in a temple. We're going to take a track from Jaren's Outpost to Kasturi and give them the one head and the note. And then talk about the other. Hey, do you guys all have your ages marked down by any chance?
Starting point is 00:05:25 Let me have a lickety look. I do not. I do not. Where does it say age? It's probably on the front page up the top. It says level four. If you don't have your age, it doesn't matter then. I just thought if anyone had marked down their age.
Starting point is 00:05:37 Nope. Well, you're all a year older. All right then. Does that mean we're a level higher? No. Oh. No, that is not how it works. This is age.
Starting point is 00:05:46 If we did this like a year a level, you'd be level two. Maybe three. What? We'd be, oh yeah, I guess. It took us a year to go around the shit with De Silva, remember? Yeah, yeah, because we made poor decisions. Sure did. Leo, probably three years.
Starting point is 00:06:00 You two, oh no, that's right, you're an original character as well. No, you're probably aged maybe three years since this has happened. That's fine. I didn't have an age. I have aged. I'm eternally young. You've all aged. It's just like I thought if anyone had their age marked down, they might want to.
Starting point is 00:06:14 Have a birthday. None of us had birthdays. So let's celebrate three years of birthdays. Birthdays are like a thing in our world, but they're not really a thing. Unless we're coming of age, I imagine, which we all did wrong. Anyway. You get to Jaron's outpost. It's part of a nation called Goldcrest,
Starting point is 00:06:36 and Goldcrest just went through a massive civil war in which their king and basically all of their... It's like the French Revolution. They were all put to the sword. Oh, boy. Oh, no. Jesus. And there's a mercenary or mercenary companies have basically taken over
Starting point is 00:06:53 and there's this transitional period. That seems bad, guys. Where it's like, hey, mercenaries, you're going to give control back to the people now, right? That you've thrown over and you control everything. And the mercenaries are like, eventually. Oh no! Oh boy.
Starting point is 00:07:09 Should we get involved or chuff off? It's caused some tensions with the large human nation of Kander to the west and they've built up this massive military line along the border. Is travelling going to be difficult? Not for you guys because you came from the dwarves.
Starting point is 00:07:26 The dwarves, like, their position on all inter... Just stay out? Yeah, just not interested, because you're flying the ships, not you. You aren't flying any flags. But the dwarven ships are flying the dwarven flags. There's no hassle. That's good.
Starting point is 00:07:42 Quite the opposite. They seem to be welcoming the trade. And actually, as you guys come in, there's like a parade. You think they do this maybe annually? Not for you, Jesus Christ. For the gems and trade goods that they're dropping off here. Fine. Maybe a bit for us. No, not at all for you.
Starting point is 00:07:58 We think it's for us. It's all for us. Grayson mumbles that it's not for you. Grayson is sick. Don't talk. It's like a party parade going on. It's like celebrations.
Starting point is 00:08:11 Let's get in. Let's start dancing. Let's have a little nice time in like this little town. Let's dance. Let's drink. Let's have a good day.
Starting point is 00:08:21 Yeah. You know, we've spent weeks at sea. I'm going to go procure some horses. Yeah, how good. Are you going for horses?
Starting point is 00:08:29 Well, we've got to get horses from here to Carceray. Don't we? What, are we going to take the bus, Adam? Is there a bus? Jaren's outpost, Carceray. It's over the sea. We can't take horses. Veldred. Adam, I'm going We can't take horses. Felt dress!
Starting point is 00:08:47 Adam, I'm going to go... Hopefully we'll be able to upload the map along with these to the internet and so people will be able to follow your journey. Yes. This dumb, bogus journey. Like, where are they going now? All right, I'm going to go procure another boat then while these bugger lugs go and party.
Starting point is 00:09:04 Yeah, party. I'm going to, like, when he leaves, I'm going to be like, so what? Grayson wants to go with you. He just wants this. You two don't really, like, Leo and Cassius, you don't know why, but Grayson's like, I just want to turn these heads in. Hand to Grayson. Have you told him about the head?
Starting point is 00:09:19 Yeah. I just want to turn this head in, turn this quest in, and then I want to just... Does Grayson tell them? Grayson isn't telling them. But does Grayson feel... Well, I feel like I would have. But is he very adamant about not telling the others?
Starting point is 00:09:35 Grayson probably would have mentioned, like, don't tell them. What do you think they'll do? They won't have a choice. It'll be like after the wedding. Ah! Sorry. I forgot about it for a second. It came back. It'll be like after the wedding. Ah, sorry. I forgot about it for a second. It came back. It'll be after the wedding.
Starting point is 00:09:49 We could even say something like we're going on a trip just on our own and then we just never return to the wedding. I mean, like we've been through a lot. Surely we could just say. We won't care. Yeah, I don't think that they're going to mind. You could tell them if the – I don't want to tell them until after the wedding. All right, deal, deal.
Starting point is 00:10:06 Okay. Sue, good job with the role, Adam. You find a ship that's ready to leave right away. You okay? I think it was good because it was so much to yourself. It's like you just actually like, hey, good job, mate. That was a good roll. You did all right.
Starting point is 00:10:28 Pat on the back. Pat on the back. I was going to, like, the sentence was going to end with me congratulating you, Leo, but it was like I rolled the dice, so I should get the, thank you very much. It was just perfectly timed because I'd just taken a sip of my drink. I was like, it's going to come out my nose. Okay. Anyway.
Starting point is 00:10:48 You find a ship, like, kind of docked just a couple ships down. That's like, yeah, we're heading towards Castray and we're leaving tonight. Awesome. What time is it now? It's probably like 6pm. Grayson, how are you feeling? Do you want me to try and find them or you wait here? I'll wait here and I'll hash out the price, he says.
Starting point is 00:11:04 All right. I've got a little bit of gold left. I can probably just pay our way by myself. Because I've got nothing. No, Ainsley has all that. Surely. Hold on. How about I give you 20 gold?
Starting point is 00:11:12 Like when we meet up, I'll give you 20 gold so that you have some money on you. At some point on the trip? Yeah. For gambling? You're going to like, when you leave the group, you're going to hand the party funds over to him, right? Yeah, that's in my head.
Starting point is 00:11:24 It's like, we are splitting the party. Well, we'll see after the group. You're going to hand the party funds over to them, right? Yeah, that's in my head. It's like, we are splitting the party. Well, we'll see after the wedding. If you guys have a terrible best man speech, then like, no. I don't think Grace is like, oh, we're going to make one of them. Grace is like my brother. Oh, yeah, yeah, that's right.
Starting point is 00:11:39 I get to be a bridesmaid. You do. That's adorable. You can be the ring bearer, you little animal. Oh, that's right. We did make a bridesmaid. You do. That's adorable. You can be the ring bearer. You're a little in on it. Oh, that's right. We did make a decision. Go on. Yes, I could make you the ring bearer. Yes.
Starting point is 00:11:51 How cute. It would be kind of funny to, like, I'm just imagining all the Lord of the Rings jokes. It's like a little halfling. I'm going to trip. It's going to be great. You're going to try and catch it on your finger and go invisible? Or just be like, Grayson's nearby.
Starting point is 00:12:06 It would be super funny if I could wrangle some way into it to have a wizard and a king go with you. My name is Strider. Yeah, so you're going to go find them. Where did you guys go? We just went to watch the festivities. Yeah. In the crowd shit whatever it's a very um like this entire city has got a very distinct
Starting point is 00:12:29 asian theme to it so like all right the parade has you know those like paper dragon things that like multiple people puppet i love they've got one of those going along and there's fireworks going all over the joint uh has anyone here seen fireworks before? No, I can't imagine I have. Yes, Adam, I have seen fireworks. I came from a castle. They would have had fireworks all the time. No. No?
Starting point is 00:12:53 No, fireworks come distinctly from the southern part of this nation, southern part of this continent, and they don't get north very often. I'm rarely here. I've never seen fireworks. Other than magical fireworks, you probably would have never seen fireworks before. Oh, well, alright.
Starting point is 00:13:07 I'm trying to figure out if I'd be terrified or impressed. I'm going to be terrified. I'm going to think it's a volcano that's erupted. You are far away from that. I don't know. Yeah, you do. Remember we had the scene where you were waving? There was a Pikachu on my shoulder.
Starting point is 00:13:23 It was a whole thing. I will cower, but then just be impressed by the fireworks. Okay. Let's get some. Yeah, all right. Let's get some
Starting point is 00:13:33 for the wedding. For the wedding! Can we get some? We'd like to procure fireworks. You want fireworks? Yes. Yes. Okay. So I guess you go to the
Starting point is 00:13:46 Hang on Let me roll to see if you're smart enough To trace the fireworks I don't know where fireworks Also I wouldn't know where to buy fireworks I'd be like Or set them alight How you use them
Starting point is 00:13:58 I'll just shove them in my bag You light them with a clench Hold them with a clench fist Light them Okay So Ainsley so Ainsley You're like, I don't know how to They're in the sky, how do I track their footprints
Starting point is 00:14:10 And Cassius is like, we can just follow the thing So you go to the origin source It's like a ways away from the actual parade itself It's in this quiet Sort of area, it's like a large Courtyard that's been cleared out And they've just got like all the fireworks planted into the ground there's a bunch of people milling about
Starting point is 00:14:29 um someone like someone in charge of the area here comes up and says well you can't get any closer don't want any of them to hit you my name is cassius christie i'm looking to procure some fireworks uh okay well there's many vendors around the town. They're probably all closed for the event today, but tomorrow you can probably get your hands on some. Can I just have one of them? We're kind of leaving tonight. He looks over to the fireworks.
Starting point is 00:14:55 What do you want? Ten gold? For one. For ten. No, I don't know how. I'm like, it's amazing. Yes, yeah, yeah. Ten gold for one
Starting point is 00:15:05 okay we got one yeah alright they hand you a a firework it's like a little a firework
Starting point is 00:15:12 you know there's like you see fucking like in the looney tunes type thing like the red rocket with like the cone shaped heads
Starting point is 00:15:21 that's awesome good like one of those not big enough for Wile E. Coyote to ride but like maybe arm sized that's awesome, I'll chuck it in my backpack chuck it down in my items, thank you very much as you're like just carelessly chucking it
Starting point is 00:15:32 do you know how to use that? I assume it's just like he instructs you on basic firework use and informs you that you want to keep it strapped to the side, not just in the backpack he informs you that if it to keep it strapped to the side, not just in the backpack. He informs you that if it breaks open,
Starting point is 00:15:47 there'll be some black powder inside and that you don't want that to catch fire. I understand. I barely do. I'll roll to see if you do. Can I listen intently as well to his instructions? I'll roll for both of you then. Because otherwise we're fucked.
Starting point is 00:16:07 Oh, no, you've both got the idea. It's not complicated. It is, but... I'm very clever. I'll strap it to the side of my bag or whatever. Both of you have zero modifier for intelligence. I'm not very clever. I have three.
Starting point is 00:16:24 I'm a little clever Wizards need to be clever and so do rogues Alright We just need to be animals You know I was looking through my spells and I could have become a tree this whole time Oh man
Starting point is 00:16:38 That would have made hiding for Fenrir really easy for you Why is there a tree behind that rock? We would have made hiding for Fenrir really easy for you. We could have hid up here. Why is there a tree behind that rock? We would have hoped it would have not hidden a tree in a rock. Not just hiding in the middle of the road. Yeah. Sufferly.
Starting point is 00:16:52 This is a shame and then I'll be like, yeah! Anyway, firework procured. Anywho. We'll go and try and find little Leo's shadow. I'm going to ask the townsfolk, what's the deal with all the political unrest? See how the townsfolk are dealing. A lot of them are pretty...
Starting point is 00:17:12 Right now, Jaron's outpost is pretty far from the capital, so there's no taxes going on right now. So they're like half-harking sweet. But you also notice a distinct... The mercenary group that owns this town right now, quotation mark, owns, is called the Black Hand, and you see a heavy presence of them around here.
Starting point is 00:17:33 There's, like, a lot of them all over the place. And while the townsfolk are like, yeah, no taxes, people who break the law, there's no stockade. It's, like, either set free, fined, or put to death. Oh boy. This is a more frightening town than I realised.
Starting point is 00:17:50 You'll be right. It's kind of like a hey, you know, the mercenary member who catches you decides your punishment. That's not right. Don't piss anyone off. Do you say that to me? Yeah. Yes, man. And they seem to be making laws up on their own as well.
Starting point is 00:18:07 Oh. Oh, boy, let's get out of here. Like if someone gets too rowdy, maybe if the mercenary wants a bit of money, they just say, too rowdy, pay the fine. I don't like this place. Let's skedaddle. But for the most part,
Starting point is 00:18:20 the people are pretty happy about not having to pay taxes. How good. How good. I guess that's all right. Take the good with the bad, I guess.. How good. I guess that's alright. Take the good with the bad, I guess. Well, good luck, young townsfolk man. Good luck with that. Who are they talking to?
Starting point is 00:18:32 I assume you talk to a bunch of people. Then just pass it in conversation. We'll try and meet up with Leo and Grayson. We get terribly lost. Nah, Leo, you spot them pretty quickly. They're super obvious. Guys, this place is fucked.
Starting point is 00:18:50 Let's get out of here. I got a firework. A what? Yes. What's that do? It's a hole. I'll explain on the boat. Yeah, we got a boat.
Starting point is 00:19:01 How'd you know? It's an island. We're not taking horses. That would be ridiculous. We've got a boat. It leaves tonight. Oh, did you get an exact time? Just tonight.
Starting point is 00:19:15 Grayson's all there by the boat. We should probably shift on over. You're thinking of a railway. It's like when they say times, it's a very general thing. There's no standard. The idea of 6 p.m. is kind of very loose in a medieval setting. 6 p.m. could be like when the sun is going down, when it's gone down. There's two suns.
Starting point is 00:19:38 There's a sneaky third. Tonight could be any time from now to midnight. So tonight, let's just get what we need. Do we need anything? I think we're pretty sweet. I think we're all right. Am I right? Mr. Fists takes off.
Starting point is 00:19:51 Where are you going, Mr. Fists? It's his daytime. Oh, good. Well, hang on. I want to cast Speak to Animals real quick. Mr. Fists! Yes? Did you catch that about the boat?
Starting point is 00:20:04 I'll find you. Make the you do, though. It's my breakfast time. He's like, I'll find ya! He's like just circling around. I got dead mice. Whatever, Mr. Fist.
Starting point is 00:20:14 We'll meet you at the docks. You've had those dead mice for a long time. Well, you don't have any. You're always like, I don't know why I bought these dead mice. I don't know why either, he says honestly. Would you like me to bring you some dead mice? Yeah, maybe that's not a bad idea.
Starting point is 00:20:32 And you're like heading back to the... Great conversation because he'd just be hooting. Looking at you, looking at the bird, looking at you. Are they even? As you're making your way back to the boat, Mr. Fists feeds himself and then provides you with six dead mice. Six? Should I erase? I chuck the previous dead mice, which happened to me,
Starting point is 00:20:51 and just mouse skeletons. Like, awfully rotten. I'll replace them. I had so many! Mr. Fists lands on your shoulder and he's like, are you going to finish these ones before they go rotten? What do you mean? The ones that you just gave me or the ones I threw in the gutter?
Starting point is 00:21:06 The ones I just gave you. Well, you can have one. Do a trick. I thought they were for you. Oh, I give him a little cuddle and noogie his head. Mr. Fists. I never see you eat. I rarely do.
Starting point is 00:21:24 Because he's sleeping when you eat I know Mr. Fists you are an adorable little muffin of an owl Whatever Don't sass me Okay So you all get aboard the boat And you head off
Starting point is 00:21:42 Is this a nice boat? No I wouldn't imagine. You guys are sharing a communal room with like all... One bed? Oh god. You'd be so squished. Hammocks with all the regular crew.
Starting point is 00:21:55 There's like one captain who has his own room next to like the main barracks but his room is like cot and not even a desk. There's no room for a desk. How much is a deck of cards, by the way, Adam? A deck of cards? He's going to start a gambling ring, guys.
Starting point is 00:22:11 You can't buy one on the boat. I know, but... It depends where you get it, I guess. Maybe a couple of copper? Maybe before we left Mara, could I have procured a deck of cards? You would not get a deck of cards on Mara. That's not the type of drinking games that dwarves play.
Starting point is 00:22:26 What do they play? Oh, they just play drinking games. They just play drinking games. They just play drinking games. It's called drink. Drink. I think, didn't we go over this a little while ago? Like, drink every time you remember how nice home was.
Starting point is 00:22:38 Yeah. Constantly. We can't play that game on the ship. Could I have found one in that town we just left of Jaren's place? Jaren's outpost. You were there very briefly. Never mind. You spent a lot of it talking to people.
Starting point is 00:22:50 I managed to find a rocket. That's true, you did. I don't set it off. I save it. But I consider it. You have it strapped to the side of your backpack. Yeah. Good.
Starting point is 00:23:02 Because you were told to do it. I do as I'm told, yes. Grayson inquires about it when you guys are on the boat. I say, it's for the wedding, Grayson! It's like a celebration of your love. Grayson closes his eyes and gives a very pained expression that has nothing to do with his scars.
Starting point is 00:23:22 It'll be lovely, Grayson. They're beautiful. Didn't you see them in the town of Yaron's outpost? Highs or lows? Jackson. I said highs. Highs? Okay. I don't know what that was about. Are you going to tell us what happened?
Starting point is 00:23:36 There's another three! Crab monsters! Crab monsters! So this journey takes only a couple weeks It's not that long You see Karsari Long before you've actually seen the island itself Karsari Is a town built almost entirely vertical
Starting point is 00:23:58 It's like spires Built like a How you would imagine Like a Apartment building It's built like how you would imagine an apartment building. Oh, cool. It's built like an apartment building, the entire city. Cool.
Starting point is 00:24:12 Is it a prison town, isn't it? It's a prison, yeah. Is it a town as well? It's like Azkaban, isn't it? It's a little like Azkaban. Yeah. There is a small town gathered around it, but the town exists to facilitate the prison.
Starting point is 00:24:25 Like the families and the towns. Prison guards and stuff. Yeah, like prison guards and the necessary staff to upkeep everything. You guys probably... Hang on. You guys probably don't know who runs this or why it exists. But let me find out. It could be here for so
Starting point is 00:24:46 many reasons such as no one knows no idea maybe it just happened this way maybe it grew out of the sea when you guys finally see it on the distance the halfling captain approaches you guys and inquires
Starting point is 00:25:02 why you're going to Kastri oh we've got a few bounties to deliver. Yeah, same. Oh, well, what are your ones about? In the hole, I've got a wizard. No. A whole wizard? Do you want to go see him?
Starting point is 00:25:14 Yeah, that'd be awesome. Like, all together? A wizard. Yeah, but like a whole one? Like, you can kill him. Yeah. Is it alive? Bounties are worth more alive.
Starting point is 00:25:23 Oh, what? Huh. Weird. Yeah. Is it alive? Bounties are worth more alive. Oh, what? Huh. Weird. Fuck. So you don't... Surely you knew bounties are worth more alive. Well, we thought it means... Well, know that now.
Starting point is 00:25:33 I'm a bounty hunter. Yeah? What's your name? My name? It's... Hang on. He said, consulting his stuff. His name book.
Starting point is 00:25:43 It's like written on his palm of his hand. My name is... Let's like, written on his palm of his hand, my name is... Let's have a look. It's been sweating today. I can't make it out. Who knows? No, it's not right. Roth Badbron.
Starting point is 00:26:02 Is he a dwarf? No, he's a halfling. Like you! Like me! He must be your friend. Roth Badbronze. Is he a dwarf? No, he's a halfling. Oh, cool. Like you. Like me. He must be your friend. He must be. He's got nine, isn't he?
Starting point is 00:26:10 He's super fun to be like, do you know him? Like, not all halflings. I don't know. I don't know, Cassius. Did you know all the dwarves on Mara? I knew their clans. I'm joking, Leo. Get a sense of humor.
Starting point is 00:26:22 I'm joking, Leo. Get a sense of humor. Well, we killed three wizards, I say to him. I'm a little competitive, all of us of them. I couldn't tell you how many I've killed. I've been doing this basically since I was a lad. Oh, wow. It's a family business.
Starting point is 00:26:42 Awesome. How do you get them alive, shall we say without them causing you damage? Mostly take them by surprise. Like when they're sleeping, something like that. Put some cuffs on them. It's tricky though because wizards if their fingers are free can't they cast off? Finger cuffs.
Starting point is 00:26:59 That's smart. He's like taking you down deck as he's below deck. I'm going to be taking notes. So like finger c below deck. I'm going to be taking notes. So like, finger cuffs, cuffs. Just going to write surprise and underline that one. As we go down, I'm going to kind of... He's easier taking notes, and he says, oh, and you have a constant guard when you capture them. Like, he says it in a way that it should be obvious,
Starting point is 00:27:21 but he feels he needs to explain that. We don't know. As we go down, I'm going to kind of lean in conspiratorially to him and be like, so we just have one head and a note from a respected merchant regarding the other two wizards we killed. I like to do a similar thing. They give you a lot less of the bounty
Starting point is 00:27:40 if you only have a note and no proof. What about the head? How's that? Never had to return a head. It's pickled, so... It's Carter. It's Carter. You know, the pirate wizard. Often I just turn in a hand or something like that.
Starting point is 00:27:54 Oh, a head will be good then. You've instilled some confidence in me, Badbrons. Hands were a choice? Imagine if we'd taken hair! Just enough for the body to do with divining. Wizards! I always forget wizards. Divine, that's a thing they do.
Starting point is 00:28:13 Fuck. Bad Bronze, imagine if we'd met you a couple years ago. Stick with me. He puts an arm around you. Stick with me and you'll learn a lot more. You're alright, Bear Bronze. What a champ.
Starting point is 00:28:28 Okay. You get below decks into the cargo area. You guys haven't been... You haven't been allowed, period. They keep this place locked and under guard constantly. And I guess now you know why. They unlock it and there's some basic cargo. But there's lines, rows of cages.
Starting point is 00:28:44 And in one of the cages is a very-looking man slumped in a corner. You guys have done this before. Look at all these, like, prison cells. This is my profession, yes. This is awesome. Is this your boat? Yeah. Is this one of the...
Starting point is 00:28:58 It pays to own a boat. Yeah. We'll look into it. Yeah, like, carcerary,, like so far away from everything. Is this wizard one of the... Goldcrest wizards? The Goldcrest wizards? No, Necromancer.
Starting point is 00:29:12 Yeah, we had one of those. What happened to that guy? What guy? Oh, the first one we killed. Yeah, the one that we killed his bride. Yeah, with Dustin. Yeah, what happened to that? No, no, this was before your time, Cassius.
Starting point is 00:29:25 This was with Chris. You guys returned and you spoke with that guy. Yeah, that guy in Old Ashton, if you remember. And then he set you on this quest, if you'll recall. Yeah, all right. It's been a while for him. It has been a while. It's been almost an entire season.
Starting point is 00:29:44 Some might say. Bad Bronze takes you right up to the cage door. He rattles it. And he's like, Oi, get up. I want them to see you properly. The wizard gives a very disdainful look and does nothing. He does this all the time.
Starting point is 00:30:02 In a pouch, he takes a small stone, throws it into the cage, and the stone goes off with, like, a massive flash and a dizzying, like a flashbang grenade sort of thing. I get spooked. Shit. And the wizard gets pretty spooked as well. He, like, stands up.
Starting point is 00:30:17 Okay, okay. He wanders over. You see he's, like, very, like, one half of his face has been severely, like, roughed up. Like, he's got a big black eye and there's blood coming out of his nose sort of thing. I'd like to recall from the start of this whole adventure where I was like, I'm a princess and I want to be a rebel,
Starting point is 00:30:34 but I'm not very good at it. This is that time. I don't know how to comprehend any of this. I was like, what? Just kill him. We struggled a bit when we caught him and we had to rough him up to teach him a thing or two. All right.
Starting point is 00:30:45 I start asking him about necromancy and how he got into it. What, the wizard? Yeah. The wizard doesn't answer. You ask him a question, and he's like, whatever. He doesn't want to talk. He's so rude. He's a bit rude, man.
Starting point is 00:30:57 Yeah, well, we did capture him, and we are now taking him. Can I have one of those little bullet things? They're called Thunderstones, he says. Yeah, can I have one? No. I'm not going to throw it at his feet. No, we're not going to torture him like that. Is there anybody else in any of the other cages? Sorry? Oh no, all the other cages are empty. It's a
Starting point is 00:31:16 pretty big bounty. He like sees you looking at the other cages. It's a pretty big bounty, so we're not bothering to get anyone else. What do you get for him? This one, he had 100,000 gold on his head. Whoa! Damn. We never really checked the price of our bounties.
Starting point is 00:31:33 You could give us an estimate, just like a rough... Yeah, sure. Come back to my... He was about to say office. My room. I got some rolls of parchment. You can tell me who you got. We did not check this.
Starting point is 00:31:46 We just went off like, not even half cocked, quarter cocked. Even real bounties from carceries? We had a hen. We didn't even know. Well, you know, there are other places that offer bounties. Really? Huh? My goodness.
Starting point is 00:31:59 The dwarves offer bounties. They do? Not the ones we bloody met. Don't say Mara. Don't say Mara. Don't say Mara. Is it Mara? No, no, no. Very rarely, but on people who have fled the nation, basically.
Starting point is 00:32:15 It's very rare, but they do sometimes. We kind of wanted to make a name for ourselves. Goldcrest used to offer bounties. That's what we wanted, wizard killers. Wizard killers was kind of where we put our stock, kind of, you know. Goldcrest used to offer bounties. That's what we wanted, wizard killers. Wizard killers was kind of where we put our stock. Goldcrest used to offer bounties, he says, with a bit of sadness. That's why we were at Jaren's outpost.
Starting point is 00:32:34 We were trying to recover a bounty that was established by the previous administration, he says. Yeah, now with all the... Kander doesn't offer any, he says, with a bit of disdain in his voice. So Kander is the capital city that Jaren outposts. Kander, no, Kander is a nation. It's across the way.
Starting point is 00:32:52 He's giving us a geography lesson. Kander is the nation to the west. Goldcrest is next to it. And then Karsari, it's like Kander, Goldcrest, Karsari, almost like in a line. Okay, and Jaren's outpost thing... It's down the bottom. next to it. And then it's like Kander, Goldcrest, Kasseri almost in a line. And Jaren's outpost thing is down the bottom. And they're warring with Kander.
Starting point is 00:33:11 Is that right? They're not warring, but tense. They're tense with Kander. It's politically askew. And thus ends another meaningful gathering of the Geography Club. Same time next week, everyone, on D&D is for Nerds. If you think this show is worth at least a dollar,
