Starting point is 00:00:01 Hi guys and welcome back to your favorite podcast. Deep Inflare. Guys, you're not going to believe who is here today. We have Daisy Kent from season 28 of The Bachelor. I just proud of myself that I even got Daisy Kent on the podcast. Like, are you kidding me? We're so excited. You said that this is your first time to Dallas?
Starting point is 00:00:31 I think so. Yeah. I've been to Austin, but I'm pretty sure I've never been in Dallas before. Yeah. We love Austin. And too, but... You've been, like, all over the place right now, right? Yeah. It's a busy time.
Starting point is 00:00:41 Yeah, it's a busy time. Are you okay? Yeah, I'm doing... How are you? Are you tired? I am, but it's all so fun. Yeah. It's all, like, really exciting things, so...
Starting point is 00:00:52 Yeah. It's hard for me to be like, oh, I'm tired, because it's like... Yeah. It's all so fun and energizing, too. Yeah. But it's definitely... It was weird because, like, I feel like doing a reality TV show, you kind of just get thrown into it sometimes, like, the after part.
Starting point is 00:01:07 Sure. And it's like you're not used to all this, but it's all good things. What's the coolest thing that you've done so far besides being on this podcast? The coolest thing besides. I saw you yesterday with like a bunch of really cool people. Yes. So that was really cool. Probably just meeting a bunch of people who I honestly thought I would never meet has been really cool.
Starting point is 00:01:27 And just like people knowing who I am. Yeah. Like I'll meet them and they like. So the fact that they know who I am, I'm like, what? I'm just a normal person. And even you, I've followed you for so long. And I was like, wait, she knows who I am. That is so, so crazy.
Starting point is 00:01:42 Wait, how did you find our stuff? Find your guys' stuff? Yeah, like, how did you follow us? I don't even know, because I've been following you, I think, for a really long time. That is so crazy. Wow, you're making me feel so cool right now. And then, so you also moved to L.A. Yes.
Starting point is 00:01:57 How has that been? I've loved it. Yeah. And I never thought I would live in L.A., but I'm living, yeah, I'm living there. And I'm loving it so far. Do you have roommates? Yeah, I have one roommate, Jacqueline. So she's my best friend from college.
Starting point is 00:02:11 Okay. And when I was filming the show, then she called, or I called her right after I got off. And she said, like, horrible timing, but I got a job in L.A. at L.A. at L.O.L., so I have to move at the end of the month. She's like, I know you're going through a lot. I said, you want a roommate? And so now we live up there together. That's the perfect opportunity. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:29 I'm happy you did that because it's like, why not? Yeah. I feel like that's the time in life. How old are you? 25. Oh, yeah. I actually moved out. to um i was in playa vista when i was 25 okay cool playa vista and then like brett wood like i was kind of
Starting point is 00:02:42 i was working at youtube space oh my god so i was like living it up too and doing the cali thing um okay so the way that our podcast works it's called de-imluence so we want to de-influence you first and kind of just get to know like the real daisy then we want to de-imluence the bachelor okay and then we're going to go into like just like fun rapid-fire questions okay and so like really from this because I know, you know, most people are probably asking you mainly about The Bachelor, but, like, I want to know more about you as a person. Cool. I love that. So, yeah, I guess just, like, first of all, tell us about growing up on a Christmas tree farm.
Starting point is 00:03:19 Tell us about your childhood. Yeah. Any, like, yeah, just things that we don't know. Yeah, my childhood, it was so fun. So I'm the middle of five kids. Oh, I didn't know that. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:29 So older sister, older brother, younger sister, younger brother. Okay. So I'm the middle. But it was a great time we lived out in the woods. It's on a Christmas tree farm. And it was fun because every time, like, Thanksgiving through Christmas, it was like a whole family ordeal. Yeah. And so all of, like, my aunts and uncles and my cousins, everybody would come.
Starting point is 00:03:49 And it was just like a huge fan. It was like Christmas for like two months. Wow. Is this like a business that's been passed down for generations? No. So my dad actually got it like ever since I was really little. Like I don't even remember not having the Christmas tree farm. And then I think when I was in like eighth or nine.
Starting point is 00:04:06 ninth grade, then my dad sold it. Okay. One of my dad's good friends and like my spiritual mentor, he owns it now. Okay. So we still go there all the time. Wow. But it's fun. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:20 That's amazing. And that was just like your dad's dream. He was like, I want to own. I honestly don't even know how it's. Yeah. Yeah. They used to live like in the cities and then like in Minnesota. And then I think they just wanted to kind of move out.
Starting point is 00:04:36 somewhere so it was a really small town um yeah and so they moved out there and my dad did the christmas tree what did he do before um he did like construction okay yeah and then he did sales i think okay yeah yeah he was just like burnout and he was like i want a new life yeah yeah yeah yeah everyone loves this and my grandpa would dress up as Santa oh my god and i would dress up as an elf yeah and so then like i remember little kids would come up to me that were my age and they would be like, are you a real elf? And I'd be like, yeah. And I get to hang out with Santa all the time. Because I thought I was so cool. Yeah. That's so cute. So you have four siblings. Yes. Are you all still pretty close? We're super close. Are you close in age too? So my older sister is 29.
Starting point is 00:05:20 Okay. My brother's 26. We're exactly 13 months apart. Wait, whoa. Yeah. We feel for that because we have two right now and we had two under two. And we keep thinking, okay, we want to have a third. But I keep looking at all these other families. And I'm like, how did these, mom space out their kids so close and have so many. Was it just like chaos growing up? Kind of. I mean, now, so my older brother has two little girls. It's like 200, too.
Starting point is 00:05:46 But it's crazy because I didn't realize how much like work children are, I think, until my brother had one. And I like, my respect for my parents shot through the roof. I was like, this is like best thing ever. But I was, how did they do it with five? But yeah, and then so I'm 25, my little sister is 20, and my little brother's 19. It's cool for us to see, though, because we always feel like it's hard at the start, but then it kind of compounds in joy because now y'all are all older as adults and still close.
Starting point is 00:06:20 Yeah. What do they think about everything going on in your life right now? They think it's awesome. They're really happy because I went through such, like, such, like, a hard phase of life, and they, like, saw that, and now they've just said, like, the coolest things to see. me happy and now I can look back at everything I've gone through. I've been like it was for a reason, which I never thought I'd be able to do. And so yeah, they're just really excited about it. Yeah. Yeah. You talked about this a little about in this show, but can you go into like a little bit more
Starting point is 00:06:49 depth about your health journey? Yeah. So when I was around 12, I started having seizures and they were like stroke like seizures. So half my body would go numb. The first time I had it, they actually thought I was having a stroke. Okay. Um, and then, then did a bunch of testing, was misdiagnosed with epilepsy. Okay. So I never had epilepsy, actually. And they said it's like such a blessing that I didn't take the medicine. My parents were, they were like, we need to get a couple more opinions and I didn't have it.
Starting point is 00:07:21 But then I would just get really sick randomly when my siblings would get sick. I would get like 10 times sicker. And then started losing my hearing, couldn't figure out what was wrong with me, got diagnosed with Meneer's disease, which is like a disorder of the inner ear. Okay. But they couldn't control it. And to be my age, especially, I was like 17 too. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:44 And nothing would work for it. So they kind of thought something else was going on, but they couldn't figure it out. And then got diagnosed with Lyme when I was 21 or 22. Okay, so it wasn't until later on. Wow. Yeah. But they think that I had it since I was like six. So from like 17 to 3rd?
Starting point is 00:08:03 22 when you were diagnosed with lines, what was that journey like? Was it still them trying to kind of figure everything out? Yeah, it was them kind of trying to figure it out. But we, like I did autoimmune testing, everything, and nothing came back that I had anything. And then I got meningitis my freshman year of college too. And like nobody really around me got it besides one other girl. So they kind of thought it had something to do with my immune system. but couldn't figure it out really because I just couldn't fight off infection ever.
Starting point is 00:08:39 But yeah, then they figured out I had Lyme. But it was interesting because, like, if you go back and you're looking at my Instagram and stuff, like, I would have months where I would be, like, feeling really, really good. Yeah, of course. But then I'd have months where I could, like, barely get out of bed. Yeah. Because you went to college. Like, you weren't going through all of this while you were in college.
Starting point is 00:08:58 Yeah. And I had some times, like, freshman year, I think I had to go home for, like, two. months. And then senior year, I like didn't drink or anything because I was doing really intense Lyme treatment. And then ended up, I ended up getting like really sick. So then I went back home. So it was always like I was always kind of going on. Yeah. So how did you decide to go seek treatment in Germany? And when was that? Yeah. So that was my senior year. It started, yeah, it started getting really bad and I would be having conversations with people and I would just forget what I was saying. Yeah. And I just felt sick all the time, felt really off balance. And my roommate had a friend in
Starting point is 00:09:43 high school who went and did this treatment. And then I was talking to another girl that was in my sorority at the time. And she had reached out to me and said, hey, Daisy, I have a friend and she went and did this treatment for Lyme in Germany and it completely changed her life. And it was the same spot. So then we started talking to like their parents and everything. And it was at the point where like the last two months I was basically just spending all my time in bed and I would be like throwing up and I couldn't even like hold myself up. Oh my gosh. In college too like separated. So that was it like got really bad. So that was like my senior year and then it got really bad. I would say in like June and July. Okay. And I remember my I had two roommates at the time.
Starting point is 00:10:28 Madeline and Jacqueline and I was standing there one day and all of a sudden and I just like was on the floor and they were like I like thought something fell on my head because all of a sudden I was just like on the floor and they were like are you okay I'm like what just happened they were like you literally just collapsed yeah wow so it was like crazy things like that would happen um but I don't think a lot of people realize unless they were really close in my life what was really going on sure um but then ended up going to Germany did that treatment and it was like the best thing i've ever done is there something about like the treatment in germany like does it not like cross our fda guidelines or something like why is that
Starting point is 00:11:11 treatment only in germany and not here yeah it's just not approved by the fda here but there it is and they because i was like what they do is heat you up so they heat your whole body up and i was heated up to i think 107.6 degrees and it's over like five or six hours and you're put under for it. But I was like, how does my brain not melt? Yeah. For asking them that. And they're like, it's completely safe.
Starting point is 00:11:37 You'll be fun. Yeah. Like in German, you're like, okay. And it was. It's not really the most like poetic language. Yeah. Yeah. It sounds pretty scary.
Starting point is 00:11:46 Yeah. It definitely was. And I was there for a month. And the way I explain it is it was like, it was, I would wake up super early, probably like seven. And then like seven to five, it was like nonstop treatments all day. So it was like different. It was like detox baths.
Starting point is 00:12:01 It was like injections in my head and my stomach my back. Were you like hopeful at this point? Because I guess being sick for so long, were you like, this is just the way that my life is going to be? Or when you were in Germany where you're like, okay, like I'm hopeful. This is going to work. Like how did you find that strength that keep kind of fighting it? Yeah, I got like chills when you said that because I remember I was talking to my mom
Starting point is 00:12:22 at the point when I was really sick. And I remember I just said, I think. I just need to start accepting like this is how my life is going to be and become like and that's just how it's going to be. And yeah, but when I was there, I mean, it was kind of for me, it was like my last like shot of being. Yeah. Like okay. It was like let's try something experimental. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:47 Or experimental. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So it was kind of I remember thinking it can't get any worse. So might as well. But when I was there, like I'd done so many treatments. that hadn't worked.
Starting point is 00:12:59 So I think I wasn't really sure, but the people I knew went, it all helped. Yeah. And the doctors there were so positive that it was going to help me. They just said it might take some time. But, yeah, it was a lot of needles, a lot of, yeah. How long was that treatment that you were in Germany? I was there for a month. Okay.
Starting point is 00:13:21 And who was with you at the time? So you could only have one person with you. and so my dad came the first half because he does a little better with medical stuff and that's when it can be like pretty rough because you get really sick after you do the like whole body hypothermia and they do that twice
Starting point is 00:13:39 and then my mom came the second half and they like haven't been apart that was the longest they had ever been apart since they had like been together since college wow yeah and it was like crazy for my siblings too because I mean I was going to a different country to do this treatment
Starting point is 00:13:58 that they don't allow you to do in the U.S. And so it was just, I don't know, it was a time that everyone was kind of a little freaked out by it. Yeah. What do you think you learned most? Because you went to college, had a pretty unconventional college experience. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:14 Because you were off and on, but you joined a sorority. Yeah. So that was somewhat normal. Yeah. Sororne was never in a fraternity. And so he's always like, man, those sorority girls.
Starting point is 00:14:24 I'm like, man, that must have been like a nice, sisterhood. We always joke about that. But you had kind of an off and on normal experience in college and then you're out of college and people are going to get careers and jobs and your life is on pause and you're in Germany. So like what are you like learning, feeling, going through like spiritually at this time, mentally, emotionally? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:47 I think that was one of the hardest things is like we were graduating and everyone was going and starting their lives, getting these cool jobs. and I couldn't do anything. And I just felt like hopeless. So the morale was low. The morale was low. Yeah, very low. But I am thankful for it.
Starting point is 00:15:11 It sounds crazy for me to say that I'm thankful for it. But because I think I learned a lot about myself. And I spent a lot of time alone and just a lot of time thinking. And I remember my older sister. she called me and she was like you know she was like there's people that like spend their whole lives just like meditating and doing stuff like that she's like maybe now is a point in your life where you're just supposed to reflect inward and learn all these things about you and so then that's what I started doing um and I can say like I know myself so much better now and I think it also gave me like an
Starting point is 00:15:51 appreciation for life. And I remember one of my friends who's kind of been like a mentor to me. He's a few years older, but he told me he was like, you're learning things right now that some people don't learn until they're super old or they don't even learn their whole life. And he's like, you're learning all of that right now. And he said, you just have to find a way to use it positively. But it was really dark for a while. But, yeah, I think.
Starting point is 00:16:21 now. I'm like, it all happened for a reason. Yeah. And I think, I think it happened to me because I think I had a way to turn it into something positive. And I think, like, God or whatever anyone believes in, I think it was because, like, I'm someone that could get through it. And now maybe people that are struggling can see me and see how low I was, maybe be like, now she's here. I can do it. too. So that's how I find like reasons behind. Yes. Yeah. Peace with it. So you, you mentioned your spirituality. You mentioned on the show. So you believe in a higher power. Yes. Yeah. What is the higher power? You said you had a spiritual mentor on the Christmas tree farm, or who now owns the Christmas
Starting point is 00:17:12 farm. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Like did you grow up like going to church and that like prepared you spiritually for this like hardship at all? Yeah. Or did you like find that. the hardship. Yeah, so I grew up going to church. My mom was raised Lutheran, so we went to Lutheran church. My dad's always been more spiritual and kind of had a spiritual take on things. But I liked how the two mixed, but I remember when I was so sick, I was frustrated because I'm like, if there is a God, why is this happening to me?
Starting point is 00:17:41 For sure. And then I was also doing so much like meditation and stuff. And I was like, why can't I heal myself? Yeah. So I was just really confused and they felt separate. but then I remember I was talking to my pastor one time, and it just kind of clicked for me, and I was like, okay, if I believe in God and there is a higher power and I'm created from that higher power, then it would make sense that, like, God's within us.
Starting point is 00:18:05 So that's why we can, like, heal ourselves and heal others, too. So that's how I kind of link it all together. So I would say I'm Christian and spiritual mixed, which I think not everyone can understand that. And some people are like, that makes no sense. I know later. I'm like to me and make this. They're like, we're vibing. They're like, we're so viving with you, Daisy.
Starting point is 00:18:25 We get it. And Tulum, we saw the, what was it? Oh, the, what was it? The yurt or whatever you were in. Yes. That guy got it. The one was far and smoke over you. Yes.
Starting point is 00:18:35 No, I think I had a spiritual awakening. I think I did it. Yeah, that was like a big turning point. So when you were sick, was it hard to, we haven't even gotten to your cochlear implant yet, but was it hard to make? maintain like relationships were you dating throughout this time? No, I wasn't. I was just by myself. Yeah. And I kind of, I was like who would want to be with the sick person? That was kind of
Starting point is 00:19:01 my mentality. And I think I was just like so focused on me. I don't think there would have been a way I could really date. But yeah, it was sad too because I remember like during that phase, I lost a lot of confidence because I was just like, who would want to be with someone like this? Who would want to be with someone that comes with all of these issues? Which I know now, like the right person will. But I think at that time and when I was going through it, it's hard to see past that. Yeah. Now that makes sense.
Starting point is 00:19:36 So when you got back from Germany, you started feeling better. And then what led you to getting the cochlear implant? Okay, so I got back from Germany, started feeling better. the only thing that kept getting worse was my hearing and it was declining. I honestly, the first time I had saw a cochlear implant was when Abigail was on The Bachelor and I think I was still in high school when she was, but I didn't even know what a cochlear implant was. And I've been losing my hearing and I was like, that's so interesting that she's deaf but
Starting point is 00:20:09 has a way to hear. But I never really understood what it was. and then when I met my surgeon, who I have now, like two years ago, and we were talking, she was kind of the first one, because all the other doctors that I'd seen and E&Ts told me that there's nothing they could do for me. Really? Yeah. So interesting, because there was.
Starting point is 00:20:31 Yeah, and I remember one. Same thing probably learning about the treatment in Germany. It's like there is actually something. That's very discouraging whenever you have people tell you know, but then you have to, like, take it upon yourself to do the research. It's the darn medical establishment. It's so frustrating. And that's one thing I learned is like if there's a doctor that tells you like, no, there's nothing to do.
Starting point is 00:20:50 Like find a different doctor. That's good advice. Because even if a doctor doesn't know what to do, like even like my surgeon right away when she was still figuring everything out, she was like finding the people. She was like if I don't know what to do, I'm going to help you find the people who do. Yeah. Like that's a great doctor. So just keep advocating. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:08 Can I ask like an interesting question? So because you went to Germany to specifically treat. Lyme's, correct? I don't know. Is Lyme's pretty widespread in the U.S.? Is it like 15% of the population has it? Five, I don't know how big of a disease it is. Do you know?
Starting point is 00:21:27 Yeah, it's pretty big. I don't know. Okay. But it's not like super uncommon. It's not uncommon. You hear about all these celebrities that have it. Like it's people. So with you having that and having to go to Germany,
Starting point is 00:21:39 we always kind of grow up in America thinking like, oh, we have like the best health care and the best doctors. like did it make you kind of question as you had to like navigate so hard through you know getting your cochlear implant and navigating limes did it make you question like our like medical establishment yeah yeah it's just such an interesting question because i think a lot of people probably are listening and just like you saw abigail i guess on the bachelor when you were nine people are now watching you and they're saying oh my gosh i have those things they didn't know before and they're probably trying to navigate the same system yeah i think he doctors don't always look at it. Not all doctors, but a lot of doctors don't look at like your whole body and everything that's impacting it. Like when I was in Germany, when I got there, they were taking like shavings in my skin. They were taking blood.
Starting point is 00:22:28 They were taking hair. And they were testing my hormones, like everything. So I did the Lyme treatment. And then the third week was like a colonoscopy, endoscopy where they planted good bacteria and did a whole microbiome reset. It was like everything. So they wanted, they were looking at everything. And I think here in the U.S., they don't always do that.
Starting point is 00:22:49 It's like, here's the problem. Let's just fix that. And they're going to be like a bigger underlying issue. So that was the main difference I saw from like most doctors I've seen in the U.S. from when I was over there. Well, and even if you meet one specialist, it's not like the one specialist you talk to for this issue is going to talk to the other specialists out here.
Starting point is 00:23:08 Like you, I think your dad and you and your family probably had to feel like you were putting the puzzle together yourself. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Definitely. So you got the cochlear implant and that wasn't too long ago, right? No, it was.
Starting point is 00:23:22 I got it March 24th of last year. Oh my gosh. So it's new. And when you say on the show whenever you're still learning it, can you speak more to that, what you're like, what the new experience is like? Yeah. So when I first got it, everyone sounded like chipmunks. That is so weird.
Starting point is 00:23:38 Yeah. And you can't really tell where sounds coming from. So I kind of struggle. if I don't know where the people are. Like, for example, when I was in my old house, if my roommate would say something and she'd be in the kitchen, I would think she was in her bedroom. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:52 Just because it doesn't, now I'm getting better at it, but that's one of the hardest things they say to learn with it. And if I wasn't looking at someone, I wouldn't know what they were saying because it was just hard to follow along with it. And I also hadn't heard, like, so many sounds. Like, I forgot in the morning when you wake up that the sheets make noise, like when you're moving. Because the first thing I do is put it on.
Starting point is 00:24:14 I forgot the dishwasher made noise. I forgot rain hitting your car made noise. Wow. So it's all of these things I forgot or like fans. I forgot those main noise. It's kind of shocking. Yeah. When you hear things, I would hear something.
Starting point is 00:24:27 I'd be like, oh my gosh, I forgot. But it was really exciting too. Yeah. Because it was, I got a chance to like relearn all those sounds. So do we sound like chipmunks now? No. Now it sounds better. So male.
Starting point is 00:24:41 male voices at the beginning sounded a lot better for me. Because they're deeper. Yeah, I would say like a few months after. And if when I first got it and they activated it, I was like, okay, I can hear words because sometimes people can't hear words. They'll just hear like beeps or like scratches for a while. But I got it and I heard speech and they had me FaceTime. My mom was with me and they had me FaceTime my dad and then I FaceTime my grandma and they
Starting point is 00:25:09 sounded the exact same. Everyone sounded the same. And I really had to focus on what they were saying, but my grandma laughed. And her laugh sounded like what I had remembered her laugh used to sound like. And in that moment, I remember thinking everything's going to be okay. It's just going to take a while because I heard that one thing that sounded back to normal. Can I ask? I want to know, like, because you were able to hear. This is Krissa. She's our resident. Yeah, I'm the podcast. She's our Gen Z girls. She's a podcast producer. She's cool. Her. We are full.
Starting point is 00:25:39 We're both 98 babies, so you get it. I wanted to know, because you were able to hear before, and it slowly declined. Like, what was that like? Like, as a person, I feel like to lose kind of that. And even you're talking about it now, you're like, I forgot what that sounded like, but you knew what it sounded like. How scary was that as a teenager and a kid? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:01 Yeah, it was terrifying, and it was very isolating. And I felt, like, weird, too. but it just like it broke my heart. I like explain it in a way. This is like the best way for me to explain it. Like when you go through your first breakup and you've never been through a breakup before and everyone's telling you, oh, you're going to be okay. And you're just like, no, I'm not going to be okay.
Starting point is 00:26:25 And you just want more than anything to be with that person, but you can't do anything because like if they don't want you, like that's what it felt like in my heart. Like wanting something so bad and like do it. anything and everything, but you can't have it. Especially at the time if you didn't know that you were going to one day be able to get this cochlear implant, like, you just feel hopeless. Yeah. Did you tend to, like, isolate during this time, you know,
Starting point is 00:26:53 because you probably felt really self-conscious about your sickness and what you were going through. Did you find that to be a very, like, lonely era of your life? Or were your friends, like, really good at surrounding you and you kind of had the same friend group? Yeah, I have the best friends in the world. they've all been so supportive and so as my family I definitely wouldn't be at the spot I'm at now if it wasn't for all of them. But I was, I was like extremely extroverted and my parents always called me a social butterfly.
Starting point is 00:27:21 And then probably when I turned like, I would say 20, 21, I became like very introverted and I would spend a lot of time alone because it was frustrating to be around people because I wouldn't know what they were saying. And I had realized when I went on The Bachelor how much I actually relied on my family, my friends, because for so long when I couldn't understand or we'd be in a group, one of my friends would be sitting next to me and I'd like look at them and they just know to like repeat and kind of explain things to me or my family does that too. So when I went on The Bachelor, I remember getting in
Starting point is 00:27:59 and I was like, I don't know how I'm going to do this and I didn't realize how much I relied on them. So it was really good for me to kind of, I kind of learned that like I can do it by myself, especially because I had had my cochlear implant too. And also I hadn't made new friends in a really long time. And I didn't realize it, but I think I was nervous about everything and people just understanding everything too.
Starting point is 00:28:22 And so that was like a really great thing that I learned from it too. Did you ever like, because you started posting on social before you went on the Bachelor, and I know that's kind of how they found you. Yeah. As you started posting on social, just like with what you've been through and what you've been going through, did you feel support from, like, the deaf community? Or, like, they brought you in and, like, helped and you found a lot of, like, valuable resources or, I guess what the alternative would be.
Starting point is 00:28:53 Like, they were like, oh, no, like, you have a cochlear, so you're not. Yeah. And sometimes, so when I started making videos, my, like, surgeon and audiologist talked to me about it and just said, like, some people probably will get. mad at you because some people think like if you're born deaf you shouldn't get a cochlear implant yeah it's it's a very bizarre thing yeah um in my opinion and i'm sure you feel the same way yeah that's what i figure sometimes is sometimes we've had people who've either talked to here or you know friends who have a disability and it's almost like you have to like work your way into the community like there's like you're not it's like hurting enough to be a part of it and i think we're speaking mainly about
Starting point is 00:29:32 the hair loss community because i lost a lot of my hair in 2019 and then transitioned into wigs for a year. And some of the hair loss community online was so kind and helpful and sending me wigs and giving me advice and how to do them. But then a lot of them were like, oh, you haven't lost enough hair to identify with this version of hair loss. And it's like, so it's like trying to find this niche community. It could be really special if everybody like supported each other. But yeah, sometimes it was like even like even more hurtful to be, you know, categorizes hair loss. You know, I don't know. Yeah. Definitely, because it's like you're going through this thing and you want to talk to people who relate to you to.
Starting point is 00:30:12 I honestly, sometimes I would get comments about it, but for the most part, it was really positive. And I think because I've talked about it in a way that I always brought it back to like, this is my experience, kind of. But for the most part, it's been uplifting. And I also think it's been, it's interesting in my case because I was fully hearing. and then I lost my hearing. Yeah. And so for me, I'm like, why would I not get a cochlear implant? Because speech is like my main form of communication.
Starting point is 00:30:48 Oh, everybody. Yeah, and everybody I've been around. That's what I know. So I think that might be why. But a lot of people did warn me, too, that, like, talking about it, I might get some, like, hate about it. But for the most part, it's been really, really positive. You know, the internet's just...
Starting point is 00:31:05 The internet's crazy. I didn't realize how crazy the internet was until after our show, The Bachelor came out, and I was like, okay. You're like, I did what? I don't even remember that. Like, yeah, that's, I totally relate. Well, you should be so proud of yourself for putting that story out there. Even before you went on The Bachelor, like, I think that's super admirable. Before we get into your love life, I have one last question.
Starting point is 00:31:27 Before we get into your love life. I really want to understand the only missing piece I have is like, I want to talk about your parents for a second because I feel like your dad has, clearly impacted you quite a bit. And I think all of us are so inspired in our marriage and we conduct ourselves in marriage, like the way that we see our parents conducting themselves. So they seem pretty foundational to you. Tell us about your parents. They've been married for a long time. Yeah, a long time since they were 23. Wow. And they have five kids. Yeah. It's their success It's amazing. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:01 You know, has that served as like a foundation in the way that you date, in the way that you look at, look for a spouse and all that. Yeah, definitely. All growing up, they always just brought everything back to love.
Starting point is 00:32:14 And they just always said it's all about like how you can love people and how you can show them grace and understanding. And so I think them kind of laying that foundation, that it's just it's all about love. That was huge. and seeing them together, they do everything together. And they're just each other's biggest fans. And yeah, it's a really beautiful thing.
Starting point is 00:32:41 And, like, my mom is, like, she's a first grade teacher. She was a kindergarten teacher now. She's a first grade teacher. But even how she, like, pours love, like, into those kids. Like, I love going into her classroom. Yeah. Because she's just the way she goes about it. And sometimes there's kids that come in and don't have the best,
Starting point is 00:32:59 home life and they just want to be at school all the time because my mom. And so it's really special to see that too. And I think they just always taught me how important it is to like give back to people and tell people you love them and be there. But yeah, they're really special people. That's amazing. It's cool that you're close with them in adulthood too. Yeah. That's always really powerful. Yeah, definitely. Yeah. So I want to get into de-influencing the bachelor. now. People are so fun. I did like a question box on my Instagram stories and people were sending in so many questions.
Starting point is 00:33:36 I have some of them in here. Okay. But we know that you went on the show. You were asked or DMed by a producer. Yeah. And so then you were like, okay, maybe I'll give this a shot. What happened from there? Like what got the ball rolling?
Starting point is 00:33:48 Yeah. So then I just started having more conversations with producers and then ended up on the show. So I remember when I got the call, like, Oh, you're officially casted for The Bachelor. You're like, are you sure? When was that? I think it was, I got a call like mid-August of last year. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:11 It's been like almost a year since you. Yeah. Kind of like you're, okay. So when you plan the intros, I've always wanted to know, like, how do they, did you come up with the idea? No. Oh, like when I came up in the truck. Yeah. Yeah, so I had a couple of ideas.
Starting point is 00:34:30 One of them was to, like, show up with daisies. And then the other one was, like, something to do with Christmas. Didn't exactly know. But, yeah, mostly, like, everyone comes up with them. And then, I mean, I remember them being, like, if you want to do something crazy, you can. Like, we can do it. And I don't think I realize, like, oh, yeah, we're in L.A. And, like, this is, like, ABC, The Bachelor.
Starting point is 00:34:55 They can do things. Yeah. Yeah. So, that was cool. Had you, when was the last relationship you had had prior to going into The Bachelor? Like four years ago. Four years ago. So that ship had sailed.
Starting point is 00:35:09 It was like, I would say it was like almost a year. Okay, so decently serious? Yeah, but we were like really good friends before. Okay. Yeah. We don't talk about, like he's out. No, he's awesome. Was he there for you during?
Starting point is 00:35:28 your college days where you were, like, sick and stuff? Yeah. Sure, that means a lot. Yeah, it was, like, an interesting situation because, obviously, like, we weren't together, so he didn't want to, like, overstep, you know, because stuff like that is always hard. But my whole college friend group was extremely supportive in, like, my high school friend group. And so it's cool because, like, they were all with me through, like, the hardest point in my life, but they've also seen me, like, they see me now.
Starting point is 00:35:55 And, like, my roommate, we were talking about it. yesterday and she was like can we just take a sack like two years ago you couldn't you couldn't even walk like a block wow and she's like and now like you're here and you get to do all these fun things yeah so yeah so it is cool and you film pretty for how how many weeks like nine weeks um it was i don't know it was like exactly two months two months yeah it was okay so yeah about eight or nine weeks which is so crazy because that's like a lot of life to live and a lot of places to go in such a short amount of time. Yeah, it is.
Starting point is 00:36:29 Like, even like the jet lag, I'm like, how do they go from one place to the next and, like, not be sleeping for two days? Was it going on the show, you said, you know, getting your cochlear implant, was it scary? Like, it was terrifying. Yeah. But I was really excited about it, but I didn't know how it was going to go. Yeah. And I was open with the producers and said, you know, I don't know if this is how, like,
Starting point is 00:36:52 if this is going to be right for me, like, once I start. Yeah. And the first night I almost left because it was so different. What was difficult? It was just you walk in and so many voices. I didn't know anybody so I couldn't really like read their mannurisms or anything. Or confide in them like quite quick enough. And nobody knew about it.
Starting point is 00:37:10 Yeah. And it wasn't a thing I just wanted to like flirt out really and like announce to everyone. But everyone was so all the producers were so supportive. And I mean, and you're going into this room to this guy you've never met with. I think there was like 33 of us girls. That's so crazy. So that's overwhelming and crazy. Yeah, he's still a nice guy.
Starting point is 00:37:34 Yeah, but it's like, it doesn't even matter if he's nice or not. It's just like 33 girls doing anything together is hard. You know, especially if you don't even know each other. So did you quickly gravitate towards any of the girls and become like right off the bat friends? Yeah, definitely. So, Krissa, I met her the first night and we, We were sitting outside. And it's funny because I kept asking her to go outside with me and it was like freezing
Starting point is 00:38:01 out. She was like, why does this girl keep wanting to go outside? But it's because I could hear better. I couldn't understand like anything when all the girls were talking. It's just chaos. And we were outside. And then my implant ended up, it like beeps when it's about to die and it was beeping. So then one of the producers that I'm super close with who had my extra battery, she came and
Starting point is 00:38:21 sat down next me and I was switching it. And Chris was like, sorry. She's like, what's going? Is every, are you okay? Like, I can go. I was like, oh, no. Like, it's all good. And then I explained everything to her.
Starting point is 00:38:31 And she was so supportive. And then the next day, I talked to Autumn about it, too. Okay. And it was interesting because I had never talked to anybody about it that didn't already know. Yeah. So it was my first time, like, just telling people about it. And people over like, what is this? Like, they didn't, it wasn't even something they probably knew existed.
Starting point is 00:38:53 So you have to explain a lot to them. Yeah. So they, they were so nice and so supportive and so were the producers too. Two of them that I'm still really close with the producers. I had told Krista about it and they were like, why don't you, like would you feel comfortable talking to Autumn about it? And I was like, yeah, actually, I think she would be a great person to talk to about it. So me and Krista like talked to her about it. And yeah, and they were so uplifting. And then I got the first one-on-one day and I was so scared. So I just started like freaking out and crying. And then I told all the girls and everyone was so uplifting.
Starting point is 00:39:28 Good. And then from there everyone was so like they were so nice to me. Yeah. And they were always like if you can't hear like let's go outside. Like let's go do something else. And when it's dark, I, because my balance, so your ears control a lot of your balance. But mine are like the part that controls it is distracted. So my equilibrium's really off.
Starting point is 00:39:54 So I rely on my sight. And so when it's dark out, I get like really wobbly. And so the girls would be like when we'd go to like the nighttime days, they'd be like holding me in their arms walking and I'd be like stumbling. That's so sweet. But yeah, they were all so kind to me. Can I ask you something actually random about the girls? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:13 I noticed when there was like any drama, especially when it was like, oh, Sydney and Maria, you were never in the room. Like never? And I was like, Daisy's like out of there when there's drama. I was literally never around in the time. And I remember I'd be talking to one of the producers, like, when they just show your, like, head on the screen, you're kind of narrating. And I'd be like, what do you think about this? I'd be like, what do you?
Starting point is 00:40:34 What? Yeah. I'd be like, what happened? And then I'd go back, I'd be like, wait, what happened you guys? And I would always, yeah. For some reason, I was always, like, missed it. Yeah. Well, that's good, though.
Starting point is 00:40:45 Yeah. Honestly, sometimes it's like, whenever you go through something like that, it puts it into perspective and you're like, this is so silly. Like, I'm not going to focus on this. So that did you feel like, was the energy going into like the rooms with all the girls? Like, did you feel like there was like this cutthroat energy? Or do you feel like it was more so like everyone just buddies up and is, I mean, because just with that many girls, I feel like it'd be hard. Yeah. I always thought that that's what it was going to be like.
Starting point is 00:41:11 But it was a way more uplifting experience for me than I ever thought it would be. Yeah. Didn't they say, you might have said this, didn't they say that like this season felt way different? than any other season because it was more like wholesome. Joey was a great match where people love you. Yeah. Wasn't it a different vibe than other seasons? I mean,
Starting point is 00:41:32 I'm sure it was. It seemed like a lot of the girls like got along. Even how you and Kelsey were like riding together at the end. I'm like that's not normal. Yeah. I do feel like the season was different. Did you feel like, because I always think the producers are kind of evil geniuses. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:47 They kind of like make or break the show. Yeah. And so like it sounds like you had a pretty pleasant experience, not that you would say you didn't, because I think ABC is listening. Hi, ABC. They're like, see a red dot. No, but it sounds like you actually, did you feel like the producers were truly vying for Joey to pick who was going to be the love of his life? Yeah, definitely.
Starting point is 00:42:11 Yeah. Yeah. And they, like from my experience, I had the best experience ever. I'll always say it was so positive because it really was. And especially even at the end, like when I knew it wasn't me, like they weren't trying to convince me that it was. You know, they were like, if this is how you're feeling, like, let's follow that and how you're feeling. Yeah. Which I think speaks like volumes about them too.
Starting point is 00:42:43 And I remember I was so nervous about it airing. And I was talking to one of the EPs and they said, you watching it back, I think it's going to be a really beautiful thing, and it's going to show exactly how you remembered it. And my story did. It was exactly how I remembered it happening. And so that was really cool to see also. Is there anything that was captured about you that felt was like a little bit spun or not
Starting point is 00:43:10 completely accurate? It couldn't have been bad because America loves you right now. It's got to be something like petty and silly. Yeah, no. I mean, of course, like it's only a. two-hour show and so there's tons of stuff that gets cut too but I did and people like the viewers some people did pick on me because they were like all she does is talk about her cochlear implant but I'm so happy that they showed those parts of my journey because I think it helps so many people
Starting point is 00:43:38 and I think them showing that like it's something I can always go back and watch and be like oh I was there now I'm here yeah um but yeah it was I was I I, yeah, it was how I remembered it. Well, because also, like, you don't talk to him every day, right? Like, you don't, you're not seeing him 24-7. So it's like when you have that hour, it's like, we need to talk about serious things, right? Like, how often are you seeing Joey throughout the process? So it would be like once a week, whatever date you would be on and then you'd see him.
Starting point is 00:44:12 See, that'll make any girl go crazy. Yeah, during the day. I'm sorry, like, if you're waiting all week for one hour, I'd be like, I just talk about this and this and this. It's not like, what'd you have for? for breakfast. Yeah, so it is like you're talking about the big things first. And everyone was like, all these girls are like just trauma. Don't know, Joey, I'm like, well, we kind of have to. Yeah, just you have a lot time. Yeah. Oh my gosh. Poor Joey. Yeah. Not to make him the victim. Yeah. Not to make him the victim, but that's kind of tough. Yeah. He handles himself so well. I thought,
Starting point is 00:44:39 I thought he did a really good job. Yeah, he really did. Everyone, I mean, people were saying like, he was like, their favorite bachelor. Yeah. Like, and I think it was such a good season too, because I had said like I'd never been in a room with so many girls that were so young and had been through such difficult things but turned them into really positive things. And I remember being there and talking to some of the girls and I was like, well, everybody here has something that they overcame. And I think him being who he is really allowed for a lot of girls to open up and show that. And then those stories like got shown too. which was a really beautiful thing. So when, I know you've talked about this before,
Starting point is 00:45:22 but just for anyone that didn't listen to other interviews, when throughout the process did you know, okay, like I, Joey is not my person. Yeah, I think it was at the Rose ceremony where Rachel left.
Starting point is 00:45:39 That's when I think I first kind of realized it, but I was kind of ignoring it and trying to process it. Because what he says to do? You're like, I'm still here. I can't just be like crying in my bed about it. you got to keep moving forward. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:50 And then I remember, I remember, too, though, throughout the whole process, I would always have kind of moments where I was like, is this, is this right for me? Or me and him right together? Part of me always second guess it. And I was always thinking, am I not just giving into the process? Yeah. And so that's like, I thought I wasn't.
Starting point is 00:46:08 But I think looking back at now, I'm like, oh, I kind of knew. But I think it all happened the way it did for a reason, and I learned a lot from it. And I think my story being able to show, I think it helped a lot of other people too. Yeah, so I think it all happened for a reason. Like, you and Joey, like, friends? Like, how's that? Yeah, I would say, yeah, I would say we're friends.
Starting point is 00:46:33 I mean, after the final rows, we all went out together and had a great time. Oh, good. And I've seen Kelsey in a few weeks, which will be fun. Good. Yeah, so. That's crazy. Yeah. Hopefully, like as time goes on too, then we can, like, continue to.
Starting point is 00:46:49 One of the main questions I got when I asked for my audience was they wanted to know about the infamous letter. Yeah. If you saw the letter whenever you walked in, I don't know if you caught this, but whenever, like the final episode, Daisy walks into Kelsey's room and you were just coming to, like, check in on her or kind of see where she was at, which makes sense. I would have done the same thing. Actually, I would have been sleeping on the bed, like, you know, next year.
Starting point is 00:47:14 What's going on? What's going on? But she was reading a letter. And I guess it's been like confirmed now that that was like Joey's letter to her saying he was going to choose her. Did you know that that's what that letter was? I didn't like read the letter because she was so sweet. She like grabbed me. I remember walking and just fit down and I saw it and said like love Joey or heart Joey.
Starting point is 00:47:39 And I remember thinking I was like, oh yeah. I'm out of here. I was like he already said see you to me a while ago, I think. Was that like, was that really the moment, like you had first tangible evidence that like, no, I think I knew. I think I knew, but then the letter, I was just like, I've been right. But it was funny because I remember leaving and talking to my producer that was with me like the whole time. I was like, there was a letter. Yeah, that is funny.
Starting point is 00:48:11 Oh, that's so crazy. So you kind of took matters into your own hands. And I think a lot of people respected how you handled yourself at the end because you still did it with such grace and kindness. And a lot of people would probably do it in a little bit more aggressive manner. How was that experience kind of taking the narrative back in your own hands? Yeah, it was really cool and it was really empowering. And also, like, I did really care about them and I wanted them to be happy.
Starting point is 00:48:40 I mean, I knew it wasn't right between me and him, and that was okay. Of course, it was really, really hard in the moment and for a while after, but I just, I wanted them to be happy. And I think that was the unique thing about me, Rachel, and Kelsey at the end, is that we all really just wanted each other to be happy, and we knew whoever was meant to be with him it would be. But it was, I don't think I realized in the moment when I went up, there to talk to him because in my mind I was like I want to make this less hard for him because I know
Starting point is 00:49:19 it's probably really hurting him to have to do this to me. I didn't even think that. So that's the way I was thinking but then I remember when I was like you know like I think I should like walk out by myself. I remember walking away and I was like okay I can do this and I'm going to do it on my own. Yeah. I'm good. And then. And after the show, I don't think I even realized. And I, like, love the therapist on the show, both of them. I remember talking to them. And they were just like, do you realize, like, what you just did?
Starting point is 00:49:54 And I was like, what do you mean? I was like, she was like, no, this is going to be, she's like, this is going to be huge. She's like what you did and how you carried yourself this season. She's like, it's going to be really amazing for you. Yeah. And that was the first time where I kind of, I was like, like, oh, maybe I did do that differently. But yeah, it was empowering to watch.
Starting point is 00:50:17 And I remember after the people who knew the ending that were like in production that I had been talking to told me they were always kept reminding me even during like the show when I was struggling for part of it when it was airing. They said when you watch the ending, you're going to be so proud of yourself. And so they just kept telling me to hang on to that. And it was really cool to watch it back. Yeah, you must be very proud. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:42 So. Why did you and Kelsey ride together to the breakup scene? We knew that I was like heartbroken at the time. Okay, that's what I thought. And I also like, we were really good friends on the show. And so I think, and it was just a moment where neither of us were angry. Neither, of course, like I was hurting. But we just wanted to be there for each other.
Starting point is 00:51:09 And it was a cool moment, you know, because nobody understands that situation unless you're there. Besides me and her, no one's ever going to understand that situation and even getting to that point. Besides, like, other people that have been in that position. And it is super tough. I remember, like, when I knocked on her door and it shows both of us crying, I remember just, like, feeling relieved because we hadn't seen each other for a while besides the rose ceremony. And it was just like, it's the only person that can, like, relate to you in order. understand what you're going through.
Starting point is 00:51:41 So it was a really special moment. I've always wanted to know, are the fantasy sweets awkward? Like when you finally spend the night with someone and then they see like all, you know, is it awkward at all? I mean. I feel like the makeout scenes would be more awkward with that. Well, I need to ask about the makeout scenes too. Like, is that awkward with the camera?
Starting point is 00:52:03 You probably just get used to the camera. Yeah, I remember they do a really good job of making it feel normal. Like my first one-on-one, I was like, wait, this feels like I'm just on a date with my boyfriend. Yeah. Yeah. Cameras around. The only time it was weird for me is when it was like the dinner and it was just me and him talking and we would have the dinners together.
Starting point is 00:52:22 And then it'd be like a bunch of cameras and like producers and people. And you know they're just like watching you. Yeah. Yeah. It's odd. Yeah. It's not normal. And I remember being like, I'm feeling kind of weird.
Starting point is 00:52:35 Yeah. That's what Danny says when I just like, like, I'm like just like, I'm the producer and her director of my iPhone. So true. But they were like one of the camera people, I remember they said, you have to remember, this is our job.
Starting point is 00:52:48 We see this stuff all the time. Yeah, they've seen it all. And after they said that, I was like, oh yeah. Yeah, there's,
Starting point is 00:52:53 I'm like, this is normal. Yeah, you're pretty normal probably compared to what they've seen. So it's not like a situation where they're like, hey,
Starting point is 00:53:01 like y'all should go make out over here. No. Okay, that was what I always thought. We'll just follow you. Yeah. They're like, hey,
Starting point is 00:53:06 listen, sorry. It's B-Rill makeout day you guys are going to be making out a lot. The makeup sessions are like so like good looking like they're always up against a wall you know and I'm like surely somebody placed them there you know every once in a while they would be like some romance or something I remember and I'd be like such an odd prompt it's like okay I guess in to make out such yeah that is so crazy you guys know I love to do a little spring refresh and a great place to start with surprise is your luggage
Starting point is 00:53:36 I've finally upgraded a bunch of me and my family's travel bags to base, and it has helped our trips as a family go smoother, and they also look great, which is a plus. If you're thinking about spring cleaning, this is truly such a hack because base bags are designed to nest so you can fit a new work tote into a carry-on into a check-in bag with ease. They have truly thought of everything you could want in a piece of luggage, 360-degree gliding wheels, a cushioned handle, built-in weight indicator, wash-wheel bags for your dirty clothes, and all the things. interior pockets you need to keep organized. Their bags come in multiple sizes and colors. And for shorter trips, the weekender bag is super functional and even as a place to store your shoes separately. I have tried so many suitcases and luggage brands throughout the years and this is the one I have stayed consistent with and bought for my whole family. Right now, BASE is offering our listeners 15% off your first purchase by visiting base travel.com slash de-influence.
Starting point is 00:54:31 Go to Bacetravel.com slash de-influence for 15% off your first purchase. You look so beautiful the entire season. I must know. I have always wondered this. How do you pack for the entire time that you're gone? And also, everybody looks so good every day. I'm like, when do they have time to get ready? When is this all happening? Behind the scenes. I'm so curious. Yeah. So for packing, bless my friends, because they made a sheet of paper with like daytime outfits. nighttime outfits, cocktail, like what shoes go with, what, how I should wear my hair. They like, do a tea, had everything on a piece of paper. I still have, and then my friend Madeline printed out like seven.
Starting point is 00:55:18 And she goes, I know you're going to lose probably all of them. So here's seven. You should put them in different places. Wow. And I ended up with two left. Crazy. She packed seven. She do.
Starting point is 00:55:31 But yeah. But so, yeah, they basically, they basically, it's prepared for everything. So you pack for everything on the front end, like all your gowns? Yeah. What about if you leave that first night and then you have like 10 gowns? Yeah. That would be the most heartbreaking part for me.
Starting point is 00:55:49 No, yeah, definitely. Definitely. Do you borrow each other's clothes? Yeah. I saw that you went autumn, your pink dress. Yes, and it was funny. That dress was so cute. Is that Reformation?
Starting point is 00:56:00 No, I think it was, hello Molly. It's so cute. But it was. I've been looking for it. It was same. Well, now you know where. Yeah. I remember Autumn because she wore, like, shortly after I did.
Starting point is 00:56:11 And we were both the two, like, super blonde girls. I remember some people were like, when that show aired, they were like, is that, is Daisy wearing the same dress again? And then they were like, oh, it's autumn wearing Daisy's dress. Y'all were both so cute. Okay, so watching the show back, I think you kind of answer this. Did you have any regrets? No.
Starting point is 00:56:34 I had no regrets. And I also think, who did I watch it with? Did you watch it by yourself? I watched it with my friends. And then I was back in Minnesota for a while. So I watched it with some of my like, some of like my hometown friends and my parents and everyone too. When you're not seeing Joey, what are y'all doing each day on the show? Just hanging out with the girls, which is so fun.
Starting point is 00:56:57 It's a lot of hanging for me. Yeah. I go a little crazy. It was a lot of hanging. But it was like you didn't have to be like together 24-7, like sometimes. I'd like just be with calcete or sometimes me and autumn would be in our room just like sleeping and just like joking around yeah um yeah you turned down the bachelorette yeah why i it wasn't really like hard decision but i just knew it was the best thing for me and it was something i went back
Starting point is 00:57:26 and forth on but the decision i made was completely for me and about me and it just like my health I always take into consideration. And I had like such a good experience this time. And I don't think I, I definitely wasn't ready to go back into it right away because it is a big thing. And it is people are watching it and like, yeah, you have control, but you don't have total control. And like I think I would have had a great time. Yeah. Because like I said, I love all of the producers and everyone involved.
Starting point is 00:57:59 But it was just, like at times, the show was really, really. hard for me and I don't think I like watch not watching it but just everyone having comments and opinions and not knowing what happens but you know what happens and I also thought it would be really hard for me to like hurt people like even though it's part of it but yeah so I just I don't yeah just wasn't for me it's just the most mature answer it's so wise it's so wise because if you asked me like before like oh if I would have known like oh you're going to be the bachelor like hands down i've been like oh yeah you'll do it yeah it's it's not until you actually experience it yeah it's not until you actually like experience it and i think until it was right
Starting point is 00:58:42 in front of me and i was like i don't really want this yeah i'm you're not the first to turn down my friend mattie peruit same thing like and i think that it is especially since you had such a great experience it's like just leave on a high note yeah you know you don't have to do it yeah my older sister she was so funny when we were like really thinking about it she was like yeah She was like, okay, Daisy, you're leaving on a high note. Yeah, yeah. And she said, if you're the bachelor at you, you have so many opportunities to just mess it up. Yeah, that's so true.
Starting point is 00:59:13 With every conversation, with every guy that you'd meet, it'd be a lot. Well, I mean, we can go into Rapid Fire. Do you have any other questions? Wait, I have one. Oh, you do? Okay. I've always wanted to know, the girls that are on The Bachelor, like yourself, do you count this as like a boyfriend?
Starting point is 00:59:31 Like, do you count this, like, in, like, your dating life? Like, how do you refer to this? Because it's kind of a weird thing. I honestly, I don't know. I don't think. I'm not sure if I've ever really thought about it. I think I'm really fast. I mean, I'm really, like, joke about it.
Starting point is 00:59:48 I'd be like, oh, yeah, my boyfriend on The Bachelor who was dating life. Yeah. But. Yeah, because I was like, what do you say, like, my ex? Yeah. Yours and 32. Yeah. If I probably saw him, I'd probably.
Starting point is 01:00:01 we'd be like, oh, that's my ex. Yeah. Yeah, it kind of is, you know, quick, quickly. But, um, okay, so Jen is the new bachelorette. Yes. Um, were you close with Jen? What does she like? I feel like we didn't really get to know it at well.
Starting point is 01:00:16 I wasn't super close with her, but she's very bubbly, um, very outgoing. So I think, I think it'll be fun to see how she interacts with all the guys too. Yeah. Because it is a completely different scenario when it's just you. and then all of them. I'm really excited for her season. I think she's going to kill it. Yeah, and it's kind of fun that people don't know a lot about her
Starting point is 01:00:39 because I feel like there's so much more to learn. To learn. Yeah, I agree. Okay, so now we're going to get into some rapid fire questions. Okay. Number one, are you dating anyone? Yes. We can't get any more of an answer, right?
Starting point is 01:00:56 Just yes. Not for the time. Just for that. Okay, okay. Okay, we heard you're an amazing singer. Oh. Is that true? I do really like to sing.
Starting point is 01:01:05 I used to play or I play piano and guitar. Oh, I didn't know that. Yeah. And so I did it a lot growing up, but when I started losing my hearing, I kind of stopped doing it. So I would like to get more into doing it just for like me and for the fun aspect of it.
Starting point is 01:01:20 Yeah. But I'm still really adjusting to music with my implant. So it's definitely going to be something to learn. But I would like to do it because then I can be like, oh yeah, I can still do it. That's amazing. That's a really cool story. Has anyone famous slid into your DMs?
Starting point is 01:01:36 Yeah. Surely. Can we know? Who? So the Lottner's did. Oh, I love them. Yeah. And they're both.
Starting point is 01:01:44 So they've been so kind to me and uplifting and like been so, yeah, they're just so nice. The Taylor's. Yeah. The Taylor's. They're so cute. Yeah. Were there any icks about Joey? Any icks?
Starting point is 01:01:59 This is a charisma question. I know. I wanted to know if he gave you any icks. Sometimes I would get the ick when we were at row ceremonies. I don't know why. I don't know if it was everyone just like standing there and knowing that he likes these other girls too. Like not saying that the girls gave me the ick, but I think just the fact that it's like,
Starting point is 01:02:18 wait, what? You like me, but you also like all that. Yeah. So like the awkward staring. Like there must have one time where they like, he was like, we're not going to talk anymore. like for the dates and then he pulled Maria out and everybody was just like just waiting oh my gosh
Starting point is 01:02:35 who is your closest friend on the show I would say autumn Krissa Kelsey T and Rachel are probably the four that I've been closest with but I'm also really close with everyone Rachel cracks me up yeah she's so funny what was the most awkward moment on the show Um
Starting point is 01:02:57 Hmm Maybe the The yurt To loom Yeah Yeah probably Yeah probably That would make sense
Starting point is 01:03:09 And it's like It was like such a spiritual thing But then there's like 10 cameras around you And I was like this This just feels wrong And I'm like in a bikini I was like yeah
Starting point is 01:03:21 This isn't how I played on my Spiritual awakening time Yeah Did you like to loom? I I, honestly, I felt safe, but I honestly didn't love it. Like, I've been to Puerto Vallarda and I really like that. I've been to Cabo, I really like that.
Starting point is 01:03:37 But it wasn't my favorite spot. But maybe it's because- It's kind of like Vegas in the jungle. Yeah, honestly. We don't love to loom. You don't. But it was also like at Pablo Escobar's old mansion that we were saying. So I was like, yeah, I mean, if it's going to get stolen, it should get stolen here.
Starting point is 01:03:51 Yeah. It's like part of the experience. Well, I also was postpartum and I was not feeling very great. And all the girls there were like in these like string bikinis dancing on the tables. And I'm like just feel like a total like Pillsbury dope way. It was like our first trip together one on one after having our first child. And I was like, I'm going to take you somewhere super romantic. And I was like, oh no, bad spot.
Starting point is 01:04:14 Yeah. That's spot for like a new mom. Like I'm like all these girls are like dancing on the table. I'm like have the baby monitor checking what's going on back at home. Like but no, it looked fun though. Yeah. We kind of already touched on this. Did you have drama with anyone?
Starting point is 01:04:30 No. It's amazing. That's my girl. That's Daisy right there. Classic. Sweet baby. Oh, where was the iconic red dress from? I honestly don't know.
Starting point is 01:04:43 I'll have to look at the tag and let you know, but they, like, gave it to me. So it was beautiful. Thank you. You look good in red. Thank you. Who was your celebrity crush? My celebrity crush? I would say Patrick Dempsey.
Starting point is 01:05:00 Really? Yeah, I don't know. I've always just loved him. Patrick Dempsey, that's so interesting. I would have never guessed. I think I just, I love Grey's Anatomy, and I think I just, like, loved him as McDreamy. That's Dr. McDreamy.
Starting point is 01:05:12 He's cute. Who had the best style on the show? I would say Maria Sidney. That's what I thought, too. Yeah. I was like, these girls are fashionistas this season. Yeah. And watching them fight.
Starting point is 01:05:25 I'm like, guys, y'all are. I always have so much to talk about. I'm like, I'll just need to get along and, like, go just put together cute outfits. Let's see. Watching the show, who do you think was the most misrepresented? That's a tough one. I would just say it's hard because, like, obviously they can't show everything about everyone. So, like, a lot of the girls that didn't get a lot of screen time and didn't get to share,
Starting point is 01:05:57 they're like all their stories you know i would say like that has yeah yeah okay so wrapping up um i have just a couple more questions for you um what was your biggest takeaway from the whole experience on the bachelor i think my biggest takeaway is just being more open with people because in that scenario you have to be open and i think in like relationships like friendships and all of that too i think if something's bothering me or if I there's I kind of like always push my feelings aside and I never realized that I was kind of like that but now it's like I'm being way more
Starting point is 01:06:39 like telling people how I'm feeling if that makes sense yeah no and I think just that like everybody goes through things and you don't always realize it because not everyone talks about it but in that scenario like it really showed me that everybody like has something and everybody goes through things yeah do you think that um now that you've experienced the bachelor, do you think that you'll continue to want to kind of like live in the public light or does it make you kind of want to retreat more and have a more private life on the
Starting point is 01:07:08 Christmas tree farm? I really like it so far. Yeah. It's fun. Of course it's overwhelming at times just because I'm not used to it. But it's fun and I think the cool thing about it is that there's so many like younger people than me that have related to my story. And so seeing that like what I'm doing and talking about these things is helping them. Yeah. I think that's why it makes me want to keep doing it. Do you think you'll keep future relationships private? I don't know. Yeah. I mean, it's it's because it, uh, your whole dating experience with Joey was so public. Like I'm sure you learned a lot it or you're learning a lot about it because the show has just started trickling out. But it changes it.
Starting point is 01:07:53 It changes the dynamics. It's really complicated. Like Taylor Swift, Danny left Taylor Swift. She had a very private relationship with, what was his name? Joe. Joe. Joe. And then she has a very public relationship with Travis.
Starting point is 01:08:05 But it's interesting if you've thought about that at all. Yeah. I don't know why I haven't. I mean, I feel like it'd be kind of fun to keep it private. But then also it would be fun to like share it. To just share and be yourself and not feel like you have to like almost feel like when Taylor, not that we talk about Taylor's every single episode, but I feel
Starting point is 01:08:24 like it was probably more challenging and more difficult for her to keep it secret and so like it just takes so much work. Yeah. And now it's just like, we can be ourselves and we can have fun and not take it too seriously. Yeah. I think I'd be like, yeah, like maybe like, oh, this is going on but not like tell everyone.
Starting point is 01:08:41 Everything. Everything. Like woke up we had a fight. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. You have this like platform now. What's the kind of the next chapter in your story you feel? Yeah, I want to do. I would love to start doing public speaking, especially just talking to kids. I'm in the process of writing another children's book.
Starting point is 01:08:59 Wow. I saw your first one. What's your first one called? Daisy Dew, all the sound she knew. When did you write that? I wrote that, and I think it was like May or June of last year. Okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:09:12 Where can people get it? Amazon. Yeah, I meant to bring coffees, and I forgot. Oh, that's okay. But I'll send you guys. Yeah. Cool. And so, yeah, any, like, last words that you want people to know or what's next?
Starting point is 01:09:27 And I also want you to tell people where they can follow you. Yes. I want to know about the nonprofit. Yeah, we got a lot of questions about your nonprofit. Oh, okay. Yeah. So I have a nonprofit. I made it a couple of years ago.
Starting point is 01:09:39 I didn't really do much with it because I was kind of going through a lot. But it's always been something that I've, like, kept. But now I'm really going to start doing things with it. So I have a couple events that are like in the works. So you can be on the lookout for those. I'll post them on my social media. So you can follow me on Instagram and TikTok mainly. Okay.
Starting point is 01:10:00 And then yeah, so I'm really excited about that too. What are your handles? It's Daisy with two Ys and then Kent. Daisy Kent. Daisy Kent, everyone. Well, truly thank you so much for coming. You've inspired so many people. I don't think I've ever seen like my DMs pop off so much.
Starting point is 01:10:18 Like people were. so passionate about you coming on this show. Thank you. And so I'm really excited to know you now. And you're just an amazing person, like very, very blessed to have you here. So thank you for coming on DM. Thank you guys. It means a lot. Okay. We'll talk to all you. I had a great time. Bye.
