Hello, listener.
Hi.
Before we kick off today's episode, we'd like to quickly spook ourselves.
Yes, we have a fabulous event at Acme this Thursday and Friday night,
where we will be hosting the sing-along of Wicked.
For good.
And you know what else would be good, listener?
For?
Good.
Good.
No, if you came.
Yes.
There's still time to book tickets.
And we'd love to see your sweaty, smiling face in the darkness.
Yes, maybe you'll be wearing pink, maybe you'll be wearing green.
And maybe you'll be wearing yellow.
Someone will be.
It'll be me.
And we'd love to see you there.
It's going to be amazing.
So get a ticket and come along and join us.
And now it's on with today's episode.
Goodbye.
Really?
Hello and welcome to death to everyone.
On the road.
Dude, dude.
Well.
Well, the space car broke down.
Yes.
And so, Deldron and I refused to wait, so we had to leave Matt with the space car.
Yes.
So instead, we're just driving our own rental Buick through space.
Yes.
And as strong independent women, that's what works.
I have to be so long since I've driven.
It's fun.
Maybe we'll fire Matt.
Yeah.
So this is Death to Everyone.
This is a weird edition of the show where we are driving to set of our web series,
and we thought we'd take you into the magic.
It's currently 7.36 in the morning.
We've been up since 5.
Yes.
And we went to bed at 1.
Yes.
This is the first day of filming our web series
of an eight-day shoot for six episodes.
Yeah.
You know, it'll have a longer duration
than it was to film.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And we're going to be perfect on every take.
I think.
I know that there are lines.
There are lines, there are sides, like...
Okay, so we...
I think that's the first thing.
I don't think we need to know these words.
Okay, good, because I don't...
Yesterday, one of our fabulous producers, Annie,
was escorting me around town, and we were chatting,
and she was like, how are you feeling about just, like, being on set
and being on screen and, like, your lines?
It's like, I haven't thought about that.
At all.
I think about my makeup.
I'll be fine.
Wait, is that a thing?
Yeah.
Would that stress people out normally?
Should I be stressed about that?
I wasn't.
Before this.
We learned from rehearsal,
it's impossible to know lines.
You kind of just say that the words near them.
Yeah.
And I like that.
Yeah.
Well, you know, like, on the Gilmore girls,
they used to have, like, you know,
double the amount of lines of any other show.
and they had to be word perfect
were there lots of
long takes
yes lots of long walking through Stars Hollow takes
while they topped
making obscure references
and Buffy
which I'm rewatching now is like a lot of monologues
and I think that's why Sarah just
Sarah Michelle Geller had like a bit of a breakdown
just because that's a lot of work
A lot of work for seven years of your life
Yeah
Um but she delivers them so well
I know
I touch the fire
It freezes me
Um
Should we talk about the project now
I think we should
I think we should just tell the listener
A little bit more
But like we still haven't done the official
Press release
But you guys aren't
You know members of the public
Yeah
You're bunk people
Yeah exactly
You don't have
Connections to anyone
outside of the
media
yeah what are you
vanity fair
right
what are you
rolling stone
mrs stone
um
did you see
that I got a boost juice
yesterday
I did
was that with your voucher
it was
and how
okay what did you get
okay I got a mango
and co
mango and co
yeah
wow
not a green tea
mango mantra
no
I panicked
and I couldn't
remember
which one we talked
about
so I just
I actually
picked another one
and then I was like
wait
Now cancel that. Can I get this one?
The girl was like, yes.
Why would that, why are you screaming?
When I, at the end.
Good, good.
At the end I was like, well, here's my, here you go, here's the car.
And then she like did something with it.
Then she gave it back to me and she was like, cool, so it's like $15.
What?
Like, what?
How much was that green team even giving up?
Well, I got that.
They got a banana bread as well.
Okay, well, of course.
Yeah.
But I was like, what do you mean?
I just gave you a gift card.
She was like, that was a gift card?
I was like, yes.
I don't know.
Did it have boost written up?
Yes.
What did she think it was?
Like, they must have like a membership system.
Oh.
With like a card.
She doesn't recognize the gift card.
Or listeners just sent you there.
Well, because I've got two now.
So I got out of the other one and I was like,
are these both gift cards?
Like what's going on?
like, oh yeah, they are.
It's like, what did you do with it the first time around then?
This is the kind of service I expect from.
Boost.
But it was because I was near, I was at the high point, boost.
You have to wait in that wretched Emporia plan.
Yes.
Yeah.
And it was also 8 o'clock in the morning, so there wasn't any other one else around.
Well, that's cool.
You always know how to get what you need.
Oh.
Anyway,
I did this project.
Wait, was it mango and coconut?
Yeah.
That's a tropical sensation.
Yeah, it was like coconut, ice cream with mango and probably other things.
A banana, maybe.
Yes.
Yeah.
It was good.
A classic melted sorbabe experience.
Yeah, so, we're now heading to set.
Yeah.
If everything goes as a bit of.
plan today will have shot the first episode of our show called the witchy girls the witchy
girls name reveal which like you know we're doing like a whole thing yeah this isn't just some
you know us in front of a green screen talking about Netflix movies no this is a whole
thing that's right and of a similar quality um yeah so it's a web series where Zelda and I
playing teen witches
from the year
1999
a la charmed
and Buffy
and a little bit of goosebumps
and certainly a bit of
Zach Files
and round the twiz
Alex Mac
Alex Mac
Sabrina
She's a teenage witch
Yes
And that festive cat
Yeah
And each episode is us
Fighting
Yeah
fighting a new enemy.
So yeah, we've kind of,
as we said, we got rejected
for Screen Australia funding for this.
Thank you so much.
But in the intervening time,
we, like,
well, I don't know,
when I got that first bit of information
of, like, the Screen Australia rejection,
I just happened to be in the car
with Miss Reese Nicholson
and,
their husband, Kairn, and was Kyrin Nicholson.
And then they, like, I don't know, like,
it wasn't like an immediate thing,
but like a week or two later,
we were talking about it again,
and Kieran was like,
do you know, Comedy Republic,
their theatre in the city,
is going to do some more online stuff.
And maybe this is a good place to start.
And so they've kind of come on board
with our production,
like our producer, Iris R.
to share the load, as it were.
Like Zelda on a Saturday night, they're going to share the load.
Cheap, cheap, cheap load.
Wow.
Yeah.
Um, yes.
Isn't that good?
Now you're learning more about this project.
I'm sure you're excited.
Yeah, but that's it.
That's all you get to know.
No more.
There'll be more information on these car drives.
We're hoping to pick up this conversation at the very end as we're leaving set.
Yeah.
And then you can get a sense.
of how awful today went.
And maybe we put something from today's experience in the bunker.
Oh, yeah.
Well, Zaldi, you're about to have...
Wait, no.
I guess...
No, because you've done...
I'm just saying you're...
This is like a new experience for you.
Yeah, totally.
Being on set.
But you have been on set, but more in this capacity, I suppose.
Yeah, I've been on set more of a hand machine
on, like, music videos.
project last year.
Years.
But, yeah, now it's my time to shine.
And so I guess we'll find out what you learn
through the day, and certainly what I learned,
but where the bathrooms are.
Who we like, who we hate.
You know, this is the beginning of building a community on set.
Yeah, I like that.
And who will Zelda have a crush on?
We'll find out at the end of it, this whole...
they've already begun.
Beautiful.
But actually, though.
Who?
No, I can't see them.
Oh, you just, can you infer it?
It's pretty obvious.
Oh.
Who did we meet yesterday?
Oh, a great choice.
Yeah.
What a dream boat.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, we don't disappoint.
Yeah, that's cool.
Um, well, should we...
Okay, maybe...
to end this like intro segment yeah we should apocalypse
apocalypse yeah oh well this mini just cut me off yeah so I think that um I destroy
them first uh mini cooper not mini cooper mini cooper
does minicupa drive a minic cooper I don't know actually we should get confirmation on that
Yeah.
Well, I'll send her a message after we get out of the car
and see if we can get to the bottom of that one.
Oh, sister.
If we get out of the car.
Yeah, I guess Mini Cooper, Mini Cooper,
like this Mini Cooper just cut me off.
How is that, leave the apocalypse?
Maybe everyone leaves their car running
and we all hot box in the world's ozone later.
What do you think about that, Zelda?
I think I understand most of it.
You know, when people, like, kill themselves in the garages
by putting the, like, exhaust pipe in the...
into the car.
Yeah.
The whole...
If they wanted to go in the car,
they'd make it that way.
Stop trying to fix your car.
That's not how it's done.
You're not a mechanic.
Yeah, maybe that's it.
Everyone thinks they're a mechanic.
That is my issue.
Yeah.
And these new cars, you can't even fix them.
Oh, well...
American car.
I don't have to tell me that.
Okay.
Okay.
Well, that's good.
Well, death via Mini Cooper.
Mini Cooper, Super Trooper.
Hmm.
Okay.
And, listener, we'll be right back for you and a humble four seconds.
Cooper.
For us in ten hours.
Woo-bye.
Hello.
Listener.
Oh.
We're back.
It's been a full day.
It has been, okay, what, 12 hours?
12 hours.
12 hours.
And we're different people now.
We are.
We're just.
We're, um, like.
incredible people.
We're high on the endorphins of being on
the screen. As much as we've loved,
squandering our youth.
We're driving past my favorite aquarium right now.
Nature pets and aquariums.
Don't stalk us.
Yes, as I said, as much as we've adored squandering our youths
on you, the audio only,
it appears we're being ascended to a whole new level.
Screen!
Screen!
Yes.
okay so
what was your highlight of the day
Lisa Susan
well
should we say
full context
it's a six episode series
but obviously
obviously if you're in the biz
you wouldn't know this but you don't film things
in sequence necessarily so we did a bit of this
and a bit of that so it's all kind of
scrambled egg kind of vibe
but of the scenes that we did
the players that we had in place
well okay so first what I will say is
We had some amazing cameos, but I kind of think we have to hold that back.
Yeah.
We can't say, but there's some, like, truly, like, completely above our pay grade celebrities in this entire thing.
Yeah.
That have nothing to do with us.
But, yeah, somehow we got to do, like, scenes in the show.
Yeah.
And the show is kind of like, you know, I think when we were writing it, it was like, that classic thing in like Simpsons episode, the classic Simpsons where it's like the episode starts in one place and with one character or one scenario but ends in somewhere completely differently.
Yes.
And like each scene is just like 10,000 different little things happening.
So we, you know, obviously, a reaching towards that.
So, like, we have a lot of these scenes where we just have, like, one character coming and do one thing really quickly.
But hopefully there's enough, like, meat on the bones that it could be, like, a really...
Your favourite character.
If someone, it will be their favorite character.
Yes, even though they only have, yeah, two minutes on screen or something.
Yeah, so hopefully...
And then it all just kind of hangs together as it follows, these two witchy girls through their lives.
Yes.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But I had some...
Like, a really fabulous start to the day where it was just my arms that were required.
And so I was laying back with a camera over my head
with a lot of thick makeup over my arms.
And that was fabulous.
And I think it was just the perfect way to start off.
It was like the most ego-killing, like, yeah.
You do it, your dirty little pig.
Did you get to see in that footage yet?
Yes, I got to see where my hands were through the little monitor
while I was performing.
Did it look like Gordon A?
Golden Man
Yes, it did
Amazing
And I tried to do a little bit of hovering
Yes
A little bounce
NPC Susan
Yes, well
My performance will be similar to a
Grand Theft daughter woman
Hey, get back here
Where do you think you're going, baby?
Baby!
Get over here!
Don't take a picture of me
That's when she got run over by the car
Um
Yes
We did
A scene with a lot of screaming
And it wasn't indoors
No
Well we did two
In fact
There's a lot of screaming in this show
I'm now realizing that
All the jokes we've written
Just end with us
going
like,
ah!
That's because I like it.
I think it's funny.
There's nothing
funny about
screaming
and looking helpless.
Yes.
Uh,
so that's good.
Far out.
Um, yeah,
but,
oh,
a rather fabulous day.
And how about you?
What was your,
what was your rose?
What did I like?
Um,
I mean,
I'm
Not experienced with being in front of the camera on like a proper, proper set and, you know, media piece like this.
Oh, sorry, that's the car.
But, so that was quite fun and kind of getting into the flow of the lingo.
Yeah.
Like, it's not just like action.
It's like they start filming and then they start, what do they say?
They said another thing.
Okay.
Roll it.
Sound speed.
And then.
action.
And at one point
somebody walked past me
and I looked at them
and they said
traveling
and I
whatever you say
to you?
Where to?
Yeah.
Yeah, good
one voyage.
So I really like that.
Yeah.
I like it when they said
Can we audition the chair?
Put the chair back in.
I think sometimes
when people are
yeah, like wanting
to check out a prop in frame
they'll say let's audition the chair.
Just to like see if it works.
And then if it looks good, they'll keep it.
And then if it doesn't, sorry, dear, you didn't make the cut.
Get up.
We like the wheelie chair.
And it was a very hot day.
Oh, my God.
In drag, obviously.
Oh, really.
And in between every single take for the entire day,
as soon as the camera stopped rolling,
there was one to four people around us with fans,
It's both mechanical and...
What?
Yeah.
Mechanical and...
Electric.
Yes.
And that was quite chic as well.
Yeah.
Dabbing sweat off her faces.
Sweatty little peeing.
Yes.
Yeah.
So I would actually say...
Oh, wait.
Well, because we can't really put any people in
or things because we'll give it away.
What will do that?
My pitch for what goes in the bunker from today's experience,
is a turbo-powered electric handheld fan.
Oh, truly.
Yeah.
I feel like that, oh, the fabulous leaf blower that they threw it, like, aimed at our faces.
Yes, that was very good.
Yeah.
The other thing that I loved that I was not, didn't know was a thing.
So, like, obviously we've had scripts that we've been rehearsing with.
Oh?
And, like, have printed out the different versions, and, like, that's lovely.
And, like, they're so cool.
and like in, you know, it looks exactly like
what you think it would look like.
But then today, to my delight, what's this?
A miniscript on like A5 paper.
And it only has the things that we're shooting on the day.
It was so good.
I think we're learning that acting for screen,
easy.
Easy.
Actually, though, coming from having just done
that Fountain Lakes Christmas,
Yeah.
Where I did, like, the first two shows I, like, fucked up my opening line.
Just, like, left my skull.
Yeah.
But also had, like, you know, blocks of text to remember and had to do them all in one go.
Yeah.
Without any mistakes, as you do with theater.
This is like, fuck it up.
You just do it again.
Do it again?
No one will ever know.
And what was also chic about doing it again
It's not like every time we fuck up
It's like cut
Oh start again
You just have a beat
And then you just say it again
Yeah
I like that
I like it's weird
I don't know if the editors would like that
But that'll be fine
Yeah
Um
Yes
And do you think this acting stuff is for you
I enjoyed it
Um
Quite a bit
Well
Home and away here she comes
Yeah, I wonder if I could act as anyone other than a character called Zelda.
Thankfully, you'll never have to find out.
No, because when Zelda in this show is also playing another character.
True.
And that has a very different set of traits, also from your personalities.
Yes, of course.
But, yes, they're too distinct.
Versatility.
Yes.
I, however, I'm just playing a woman that screams in every scene.
But
It's good
Um
So
Yeah
I think we can put them both in
Yeah
I'm generous
A little fan
And then a big fan
Intended just for leaves
Yeah, I'm a big fan
A little fans
Yeah
Look at how fast you're going
You stupid dickhead
Yeah
It's bloody 40
Where are you going
Also I don't see any workers
Though
Who am I gonna hit
Now I don't know
Who I'm angry at
Yeah
Are you all
Breezing past
Can you not see
The fucking
speed limit
What's happening here?
Building like a new road?
I don't know
But that guy's car just
Ugh
Speed
Also congratulations
Now you're just closer to the bit
Where you have to go slow
Yeah
Like what has that achieved?
Also as if you're rushing to get home
Obviously your life seems terrible
Where are you going in such a hurry
Dear
Come on
Come on
Come on
And now we're back for 40
okay
okay
well thank you so much
listener
yes
I think okay
so here's the other thing
this project that we're embarking on
which is far too
ridiculous in scale
like as far as
what we were
kind of setting out to do
is going to become
a bit of a thing
in the next few months
where we're going to try
and like
start ramping up
and building towards
some live shows
that are going to be built around releasing the show.
Yeah.
So expect to hear us harp on about the show a lot more,
which is why I think it's also good to hold back some details
so that you can still delight later on.
Yes.
But know that you're the first to have ever heard about this fabulous thing
that is, you know, a web series.
But maybe the best web series of all time.
Well, they haven't done the announcement yet, I'm sure.
We'd be in the ranking.
Well, yes.
but yes the time will soon come where we will beg you to
gracious with your
presence out of our events
celebrating this series
yes which we're thinking of doing a resident
well no we know we're doing a residency before
yeah so it's actually going to be really fun
it will be a series of shows
but that's what we're kind of like a bit insecure about
which we're trying to figure out is like
how do you kind of build a show
that's like come back next week
or whatever but like
Or how do you kind of like work around, you know, having to turn over.
Anyway, this is all just stuff for us to think about.
And you'd have just delight in once we figured it out.
And you're like, oh, I would love to do that.
Yeah.
I'll go see lazy and zeal for five weeks in a row.
Right.
No one's going to do.
No, they will.
They'll love it.
Well, yeah.
Especially when each week gets better.
Well, I guess.
Anywho, we'll sort that out.
Yeah.
Listener, thank you.
And I know this is a weird pod.
But next week's will be the same, and then after that we'll be back to normal.
Yeah, but this is like behind the curtain.
Yeah.
Behind the silver curtain.
This is a DTE exclusive presentation.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Expect the unexpected.
Okay.
Good night.
I'll sleep tight.
You beautiful thing.
Death everyone was recorded inside of this car by us.
Our theme song and music was provided, however, by Easy Centric and Angus Leslie.
If you have something to say to us, get in another car, drive real fast so he catch us.
And then at the traffic lights, push down your window and look at us, and then we'll look at you, and then you say,
And then throw us a gift card for a juicerie.
Yes, please.
I would like to sample their device.
Oh, and if you do want to send us a little voice message, we won't be hearing it for a second, but you can send it to speak home.
dot com slash death to everyone
and won't you support us please
at patreon.coms as death to everyone or indeed
just keep your ears open for when we start filling them with
begging to come to our show.
And also if you want to come to see us at Wicked.
We're on this week.
Thursday Friday at Acme for hosting Wicked for Good.
This time it's for good.
Yes.
This will come out, yeah, hey, listen, you should come see us on Tzden out of Friday night.
It's actually going to be so fun.
So do that, and goodbye.
Bye-bye.
