Starting point is 00:00:00 I like learning a new word. We would hate each other if we weren't forced to be together. That was certainly awkward. Maybe start small. Oh, it's a famous old story. Just wait, guys. My axe! You know, Dorn, it's not that bad.
Starting point is 00:00:11 Oh. More like a servant. I'm not touching it. Dice shames for learning. I was focused on the corpse. I'm not going to lie. Just a bunch of old blood. It's a pretty horrific scene even for me.
Starting point is 00:00:21 DM is anything going to hurt me? Thank you. We go A to C. Red delicately tiptoes, stepping between the pieces of gold towards the doors. to the south and opens them. Sorry, that was me. Your stomach okay?
Starting point is 00:00:38 I see a good creaky door and I can't resist. Oh, yeah. Welcome back to Dyshame. This is Season 2, Episode 101. Keep calm and carry on. This week is Franzy, nominated by Tilly, Yammy, and Twanette because she is currently making her way through season one, and we are all enjoying her live blogging of the show very much, and the conversations we have about every episode are just the best.
Starting point is 00:01:14 Thanks so much, Franzy. You are this week's MVP. Thanks, Franzy. Can't wait till you hear this. All right, should we play some D&D? Yeah, let's do it. Woo! If you had to rename your best friend, what would you choose? Like, what power to wield to just rename somebody? But I do think that there is something incredibly funny about it.
Starting point is 00:01:40 And also the idea of if everyone here had to rename each other. Had to. If I had to rename, if I had to rename Rob, it would obviously be Frog. Natural Jack. It's so true. That was, the Alex's came up with, well, it has to be Jack. yeah I know I'm sure
Starting point is 00:02:01 I figured someone would have done that are you guys already talked about this one well no no yeah when you were waiting when you were
Starting point is 00:02:05 just just just for the last so now you're just repeating the jokes to make now it's gonna be like really it's gonna be like
Starting point is 00:02:11 when Pierce watches that fucking video it's like oh bang it's like Robin Williams speed of comedy yeah
Starting point is 00:02:16 you're giving them a lot of credit snappy I'm I was almost expecting you to start saying okay your brother
Starting point is 00:02:24 your other other same name as my brother but woman you're wifey and you're a frog Harlan is way more
Starting point is 00:02:35 creative than that's not I'm just kidding though I should that should be me That's actually me Weren't you girl Alex or something I was girl Alex in university So I feel like Woman is a step up in the world
Starting point is 00:02:47 Isn't it? Yeah At least I've aged Who like doesn't remember any name ever in the entire campaign He's like you wouldn't know a name You would just say brother I can never tell
Starting point is 00:02:59 if you're saying Mari's name wrong on accident or on purpose. Yes, I think it's the only... Both. Both. Yes. If you could rename your best friend. I think we've got to rename the people in this rule. Like, if we're thinking about it, two Alexes, what are we doing?
Starting point is 00:03:14 We need... You have to rename you. Let's come up with it. What's going to stick? Which one of us gets to stay Alex? Neither of you. Neither of you, obviously. It would be fair.
Starting point is 00:03:25 Guthrie becomes Teddy. Yeah, I can... He looks, he always looks like a Ted to me. A Theodore? Oh, yeah. Is it Ted or Teddy, though? Well, it's Ted at work. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Starting point is 00:03:37 What's going on here? I don't necessarily agree. This gave me anymore. Ted? Ted, what happened to the cool names? You got big Ted energy. Big Ted energy. He's got a big Ted.
Starting point is 00:03:49 I don't know. I don't know about Theodore. Teddy. Well, hi, guys. I'm Ted. Ted's insurance. Ted's insurance. Yeah, I think Alex would be Ted.
Starting point is 00:03:59 It's my voice. Alex Narsal would, it's so funny because I want to say Alice, because it's so similar to Alex. People have called me that before. I'm going to go with Dawn. Dawn. It's like you're going to say dong. I'm going to go with Dong. D-A-W-N.
Starting point is 00:04:17 No, I know, I know, but like, if you just flat out, like, roasted her for no reason, I'm going to go with idiot. That's your new name. Are we done here? You're using this power. Oh, my God. Everyone has to call her that now. No. No, you know what I'm going to go with?
Starting point is 00:04:37 I'm going to go with Andy. Andy? Andy. But that's our husband's there. Very good. Just so you and your husband are booked in. A. N-G-I-E. Just for the laughs.
Starting point is 00:04:48 No, but I kind of like how. You like Ted, don't you? No, the way you said Don't. I thought you're going to say Donna. And then I'm like, she is kind of a Donna. Donna. Donna. That's so many teacher's names.
Starting point is 00:05:00 I can see Donna. Actually, side note, so one of my kids came home today and they were telling me about a friend in school. And they were like, oh, this friend of mine, Kay. And I swear they said, Kate. And I was like, wow. Actually, what went through my mind was, wow, that is so weird to have a kid named Kate in this day and age. You know, like a child, like a little child named Kate. Yeah, that's true.
Starting point is 00:05:24 Because it is weird. I haven't heard many. I was so flabbergasted. I thought the kid's name was Kate. it wasn't even Kate. It was like Kate. I'm like, that makes a lot more sense. We had that bad when Henry was really little
Starting point is 00:05:35 because he couldn't pronounce any of the names of all of his new friends in school that we actually addressed a birthday party invitation to radon, R-A-D-O-N. Not the child's name whatsoever. V-D-D-A-N-P-T-H. Wow. Yeah, it was totally different.
Starting point is 00:05:58 Not correct. Henry called the kid Radon, though. I called it to his face. Hey, Radon. Oh, God. I'm like, who are this that? I mean, Radon's a cool name. Yeah, but it ain't his name.
Starting point is 00:06:09 We call Alex Radon. Theodore Radon Guthrie. I am here for this. That sounds sick as fuck. I don't know. I almost got named Matisse. Ooh. Which is, yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:20 That's cool. I like that. Although I know that I would have spent my entire life going by like Maddie or something because I'd be like, I don't want to spell this anymore. Everyone knows how to spell this. spell Matisse. Harlan, tell me how this fits here. I'm feeling like an Ian, but spelled the Irish way with an E-O-I-N or something.
Starting point is 00:06:35 Oh. Me? Yeah. For you. An E-N-I-N? I don't know. It's tough. Growing up with like a unique name.
Starting point is 00:06:42 Yeah. I, you know what I mean? Like, and I don't mean this in like any sort of like, who it's just like I couldn't. I always wanted like a more common name growing up. But I think it's just too. Trevor. Well, there's no other Harlins to like even be like, you know, like that I know. No, there's Harlan.
Starting point is 00:06:59 Yeah, I think I know, I know what I'd call you, actually. What would you call them? I would do this, I would only do this just to piss you off. I think I would call you Harland. Harland. People do that all. Or Harlem. You know, just like slightly off.
Starting point is 00:07:15 So you're like, that's not my name. Yeah, but Ian, Ian would be cool. I mean, I would take any name. I think, I think having the new name made me not care either. Be like, yeah, cool, whatever. Call me whatever you want. You're like, spell it whoever you feel like. Like it, okay, fine, whatever.
Starting point is 00:07:29 I mean, in college, literally, I would be like, they'd be like, Harlan, he's spelled out. He's like, I don't care. Do it. You'll figure it out. You'll figure it out. Just fucking do it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:36 Well, when I first went to college, my middle name was first. And it's Kane, K-A-Y-N-E, and the roll call person thought it was Kanye. So they were like, Kanye, and I'm like, wow. Kanye Guthrie? And I was like, oh, no, that's me. Everything about that is wrong. Sorry. Sorry, son, do you have to use the washer?
Starting point is 00:07:59 No, no, it's not Kanye, it's Kane. That's me. That, my parents had, like, the most fun naming you. Like, you've got the coolest name, Persland. Harlan Kane. Harlan Kane. You got a cool name, too. You got the lineage.
Starting point is 00:08:12 You got the family now. Well, that's, yeah, okay, fair enough. They were like, if we can only have one, here's what we'd name them. You got, you got the first pick. Yeah, you got the kingly name, you know. Alexander. But they're just the standard names, right? You never go by Alexander?
Starting point is 00:08:28 Because I never go by Alexandra. No. Like I never use it. I only associated it with my mother asking me to stop swearing so much. And then it's split in the two words. I was only if I was in bad trouble. Alexander. If I was in bad trouble.
Starting point is 00:08:43 There's only a handful of people who use my full name. It's like my dad, my grandma before she passed away, and one guy at work. Robert's a newto. I never would have expected someone from Saskatchewan being named Roberto. Well, I always like to say that I only ever allow one person in my life to call me Al. That's it. Because my dad's name is also that. So only one. And currently it's Alex Guthrie because I was like, congrats. You're the person who gets to call me that now. Does he have a like a button or like a? I'll make one. I can call her Al. A video with Chevy Chase. An amulet. It's like an ally button, but it just says I can call her al.
Starting point is 00:09:21 Now let's face the Joe in the room because Joe... What are you naming me? What are we calling you? Sexy. I was going to go with like Violet. Violet? Oh, I could see that. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:37 That'd be interesting because my middle name is also a flower. I was, I could see like a V felt right, like a Vivian or a something. Vienna. Joe Dandelion got three. Joe Dandelion. Vianetta. Bionetta Venus flytrap
Starting point is 00:09:54 Volva I'd take a V name That's fun Vivian I could see Vivian Well you are Dark-haired What if you went by
Starting point is 00:10:03 Veronica Vixen Veronica You guys remember the Archie Comic That feels a little bit Too ostentatious for me I could see you
Starting point is 00:10:11 They're having like one of those Like still kind of cool names I was also thinking Betty Betty Boop What a dish? Like a little bit older But like not like Antiquated
Starting point is 00:10:19 It's not like My parents wanted to call me Deirdre, so... Oh, what a badass name. You think that's a badass name? Deirdre? I would be definitely going by Dede for sure. Maybe, maybe just bad. Maybe not badass. Just bad.
Starting point is 00:10:37 They had some really fascinating choices out in front of them, didn't they? Gertrude. All of them are terrible. I do think it's kind of cool out of the five of us. Only one person uses their full. first name in common parlance. Because we have two Alexes, a Rob and a Joe.
Starting point is 00:10:56 I was like, who is it? I'm embarrassed to say how long I was like trying to figure it out. I was like, Joe, Rob, Alex, Alex. Who does? It's me. I'm the one. Harlan's full name is actually Harlanetta. Halando.
Starting point is 00:11:08 Well, but it's not like Joe doesn't call you Harley. It's just you would never introduce yourself as that. That's right. Well, only I get to call him that. I have the pin. Hi, I'm Harley. I'm Harley, Barry. Although I have five names.
Starting point is 00:11:20 He does. Oh, what are they? List him. Harlan, Kane, Lester, Fallick, Guthrie. Oh. I took Joe's last name when we got married. He threw an extra middle name in there. He's one of my middle name.
Starting point is 00:11:31 He was lucky. I'm collecting names like fucking stones on that fist. You've got to have to marry other women. Harlan's the Faye at your door. If he asks you your name, don't tell him. He'll just take it. That's right. He'll steal your name.
Starting point is 00:11:44 I wish you were more grotesque so then I could call you gnarly Harley. I think that would actually be kind of a cool thing. I'm sure you did. I'm going to put that on the back of a leather jacket for you. When I ride my motorbike off in the sunset. That would be good. Just like in one of those metal fonts.
Starting point is 00:12:02 I just realize now like five minutes later that you're probably trying to get to the segue by saying, well, we also pick names. Yes. We're getting there now. We've also picked names. All right. Let's do it. Woo!
Starting point is 00:12:16 Dungeons. Dragons. We've got it all. Yes. Oof. With your memories and belongings returned to you, the four of you stand at the entrance to the sole repository. A set of stone doors leads east,
Starting point is 00:12:34 its shimmering barrier having dropped a second after you identified the undead creature in your midst. On the door, a carving depicts a skeleton's hand holding a set of scales, though the carving is damaged from some. blunt trauma. Oh. Oh.
Starting point is 00:12:52 Oh. Oh. Oh. Well. Well. Interesting. I guess we all know we're a true selves lie. Do we, though?
Starting point is 00:13:04 That was certainly awkward. Yeah. Well, but, you know, hey, we learned a lot about each other. Yeah. We would hate each other if we weren't for us to be together. I don't know that that's strictly true. I don't know. We all seem to get cozy with the dead guy pretty quickly.
Starting point is 00:13:19 Ah, you were quite the toughie, Marie. You really liked swinging that weapon around. I think swinging is kind of overestimating how much my arms could handle, but I, you know what? It was kind of fun. Hey, there's nothing to stop you. You know, anything that we might have uncovered about ourselves, we can definitely stress those muscles now.
Starting point is 00:13:43 Maybe I want to do more magic stuff. Oh. And he looks at Jack. Oh, or not. Maybe start small I got spells for days Yeah maybe start medium Doran started pacing and shaking his head
Starting point is 00:13:55 Ever so slightly And kind of shaking his hands Almost like when you can't have a Find a towel in the bathroom You know I can't believe I thought I was a magic user It continues to boggle my brain
Starting point is 00:14:10 That magic could have You know spun our minds so And made us so confused about all this, that I would forget about my axe! My axe! And he holds up Ork Splitter. I love you, Doren. Oh. You know, Dorn, it's not that bad.
Starting point is 00:14:28 Yeah, I suppose I did say some pretty nice things about wizards, and I guess I I'm covered a little bit of my own hypocrisy. I mean, at the end of the day, this place is a test for us, Red, and you're the one who saw through it in the end,
Starting point is 00:14:44 so... Yeah, I got the brain, Red says and pokes himself in the eye accidentally. Ow! Anyway, I guess onward and inward. Yeah. Yeah, do you want to lead us through the next door? Yeah, unless Mari wants to play Tuffy again. I mean...
Starting point is 00:15:00 All right, I'll take the lead and, I guess, go back to how we were. I'll take it stealthy, a little bit ahead, and keep an eye out. Look, fun moment aside, this is still quite literally going into the Dragon's Den. So, um, let's get those pitches ready. Guys have been rehearsing this whole time. Hi, dragons. My name's Red. This is my best friend, Jack, and my best friend.
Starting point is 00:15:30 I'll head in. And Red steps forward and opens the door stealthily. As you open the doors, you reveal an entry chamber lit by two central crescents. What's that? What are you trying to say? I know braziers. I don't know what a crescent. So a crescent is a metal basket filled with burning material. And a brazier?
Starting point is 00:15:55 Uh, sorry. Brazier is a brazier is when you put your boobs in your shirt. A brazier is when you go into the room and there's just boobs on the wall. Oh, okay. It seems to me like a brazier might be for heat. I would probably go with brazier though. Well, now, hold on. If none of us knew it.
Starting point is 00:16:11 I like learning a new word. Listen, I love learning new word. but for sake of communicating the scene to the audience. Either I leave this in. You don't want to stop and have us all learn a new word together audience? Dishames for learning. I think maybe we should. Dyshame learns the word crescent.
Starting point is 00:16:28 Is it a crescent? I think it's crescent. As you open the doors, you reveal an entry chamber lit by two central braziers. The brazier is like meant for cooking or heating. I regret all. I say you go with the crescent. Honestly, there are two lamps. the way to there.
Starting point is 00:16:45 A crescent says it burns as a light or a beacon, and a brazier says it's a container used for cooking or heating. And that's why I wanted to make the differentiation, because words matter. You open the door, and there's a black-haired woman of 36-year-old, frantically slapping up pictures of braziers. Just wait, guys. Is that me? Am I the woman? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:06 Good. So maybe it is a brazier. As you open the doors, you reveal an entry chamber lit by two central braziers. Further on into the chamber down a couple of stone steps. A wide rectangular room is lit by four more centrally located torches and is scattered with coin. You also see four statues that line the walls, a lit fireplace that occupies the eastern wall and a passageway leading south. Red enters slowly with a low whistle. Let's keep in mind
Starting point is 00:17:45 The first passageway was a test I wouldn't be surprised if this is one too Yeah Feels very touch nothing but the lamp What's that from? Oh, it's a famous old story Alladin? Can I check for traps?
Starting point is 00:18:02 You certainly can What are you checking in particular? Traps? No, like, when you check for traps You're like, I'm going to check the floor Damn, is anything going to hurt me? Thank you. Good point.
Starting point is 00:18:18 Red casts an eye over the floor tiles that he walks between for any distinctive patterns that might have a pressure plate or a booby trap. So you can roll perception. It would make sense if there's booby traps because there are braziers. Under the brazier, right? 17. You guys are children. Yeah, red, as you move carefully into the room,
Starting point is 00:18:48 you do not detect any suspicious tiles. Seems pretty good, at least on the floor, I should say, but let's not touch the gold anyway. Yeah, something like this feels like if there's this much gold, it feels very much like a test. Keep it cool, Doran, keep it cool. Well, the tenants of Kellenvore, Jack, what did that guy read out loud from his book,
Starting point is 00:19:12 a few minutes ago. Maybe something in that could inform this room, or at least what we're supposed to do in this room, if anything. I think it was Kelimvor's charge. Death is part of life, fear it not, evade it not, and view it not as evil. To fear death
Starting point is 00:19:28 delivers you into the hands of those who can bring death down upon you. Die with dignity, neither raging nor seeking to embrace undeth. Do honor the dead for striving in life brought Ferran to where it is now. And to forget them is to forget also where we are now and why.
Starting point is 00:19:46 Hmm. Huh? I believe that's what he said. You're right. Definitely is exactly. Red, as Jack speaks Kellynvore's charge, you spot an interesting detail across the room. The hearth of the fireplace has that exact same charge carved upon it.
Starting point is 00:20:09 Oh, he didn't remember. He just read it from that. Red points across the room. I thought he was booksmart, but he's just really good at taking notes. More like observant. Yeah, Red walks down the steps, feeling confident that there's no floor traps. Mari's going to look up because she has had several times where she just stepped out and had something fall on her.
Starting point is 00:20:29 I remembered that recently. I was like, hmm, marie's had a problem with stealing bad guys. Yeah, she's looking up for once. Does this room speak to anything? Like, what was the purpose of this room? You can roll room in sight if you want. I just add my proficiency bonus twice for room insight because Red was canonically an interior decorator. Yeah, you're great with Feng Shui.
Starting point is 00:20:55 Feng Shua. He's got like a whole, in his bag of holding, there's a whole thing of wallpaper samples. That's right. Carpet samples. 18. Yeah, Red, as you begin to move further into this entryway, you and Jack descending these steps into the second larger room, casting your eye over the details, you begin to put the pieces together for what this room may have been used for in the past.
Starting point is 00:21:28 Seems like these statues were certainly here since the inception of the room. They're very old. They depict humanoids. But the gold is probably more recent, something added by the dragon, you would imagine. Oh, this looks like it could be the start of the dragon's hoard. Wandering around the room, taking a look at these coins, do they look like they're all minted in the same time, same place, same people, or is it a collection of different things from different times? Roll an investigation check. We'd love to.
Starting point is 00:22:08 And if it helps, my historical knowledge. would let me ascertain the original purpose of this room, if that's going to tell us anything further. But otherwise, a 20 investigate. Not bad. Nice. Moving throughout the room, Jack, and I presume trying your best not to disturb these piles.
Starting point is 00:22:27 Of course not. It's treating it like a dig site. Of course. Looking around at these coins, they seem to come from all variety of cultures. You see goblin coins the same as you see, you know, human gold and silver and platinum. Although it's strange, it seems like they've been swept to the sides of the room.
Starting point is 00:22:51 They're accumulating in corners at the bases of the statues, in the corners, almost to the way that you'd expect dust to gather. This treasure is not well looked after. Testing a theory, Jack wanders over to the far side of the, room and just puts its hand on the far wall to make sure it's real that nothing might be moving through here at a at a pace sweeping all this treasure to the side as it goes sure yeah you walk to the far end of the room and place your hand on the wall detecting no illusion here although as you stand beside the fireplace you note a long dead corpse maybe 10 years old uh there's a body oh
Starting point is 00:23:40 There's always a body, isn't that? How recent are we talking? At least 10 years, dead? Mm-hmm. But not 100. Humanoid? Looks that way. Red walks over to Doran.
Starting point is 00:23:52 Are you okay, Doran? You want to join us? You seem a little shocked and awed in this room of gold. No, Red, I'm okay. And Doran's sort of wandering about kicking, you know, tidbits of gold around maybe moving, moving them about with his foot trying to, Red slaps. Stop talking. Don't touch the gold. I'm not touching it.
Starting point is 00:24:13 It reminds me of one of those burial sites where you guys were just kicking the bones around. So respectful. Doran, this is a dragon's hoard of gold, which means every coin in here is possibly being kept under careful watch. And more importantly, is probably being heard for any clink or tinkle that might be touched. Don't touch anything. I'm aware, Red, I'm aware. I'm curious, this room, does it look like it's large enough of a space for a, uh, a dragon to come in and out?
Starting point is 00:24:42 The door that you entered through is pretty small for a dragon, admittedly. And in fact, you remember squeezing through a very small entryway. Right. That would definitely be too small for a big old dragon. Well, it seems to me that the dragon
Starting point is 00:25:00 doesn't come in and out of this way, mona. It doesn't seem like it's enough gold to really be its entire hoard. I'm a little baffled here. I mean, how much gold is that? than only keep. A lot.
Starting point is 00:25:13 I mean, I don't know, probably. I don't think this is all of it. I would imagine it's a lot more. That book that I read by Chasloth has got a lot of detail. Anyway, what is this corpse? Amari, what do you think killed this guy? Your medical knowledge is a little better than mine, although it's kind of desiccated after a bit.
Starting point is 00:25:31 So Amari comes over and crouches down beside this husk, and takes a look, kind of gets kind of close and starts perusing. visually, not touching it too much. Yeah. The old visual autopsy. Yuck. It's a very like Mari in a CSI pose I'm picturing. Yeah, she's like down.
Starting point is 00:25:51 Hands free. Yeah, she pulls the sunglasses off and she's She's like, things got too hot in here. Yeah! Roll medicine, please. I rolled a 19. Hey. All right, pretty good.
Starting point is 00:26:08 I mean, considering. the location of this corpse and the state of some of the exposed flesh, your best guess is incineration? Well, it looks like if I had to describe the look of this corpse, it would be crispy because something maybe incinerated it. Just a briquette. I don't think it was this charcoal-like in life, but that definitely gives me pause looking in this large room filled with Dragon Treasure and a burned-up guy. Right. Well, that makes sense. But this guy was burned to death. Red walks over.
Starting point is 00:26:46 Well, there's a lot of fire in this room. We should look for any ports that could inject some kind of flammable gas with all this open flame in here. That's starting to make me a little nervous. Yeah. Well, maybe we're overthinking it. Perhaps this is just a way to get to the room to the south. Shall we check it out? I didn't even see the door there. Let's take a look. With your Elfyes?
Starting point is 00:27:07 You only got a 20 with your investigation. I was focused on the corpse. I'm not going to lie. Marry was looking up. Yeah. That's true. It was looking at the gold. It's like a bunch of kids on a soccer field just like staring into space.
Starting point is 00:27:20 I saw gold coins and I wanted to know who made them. It's my problem. Red delicately tiptoes like stepping between the pieces of gold towards the doors to the south and opens them. Sorry, that was me. Your stomach okay? I see a good creaky door and I can't resist. Oh, yeah. Heading south, red, there is a corridor that is like a T junction.
Starting point is 00:27:48 It goes north-south, and then in the middle there's another intersection where the corridor leads to the east. If you head all the way south, there is another one of those strange walls. it's almost like a pane of silvery glass and this one seems to be undulating almost like it's made of liquid or something there's a room beyond that you can sort of see just barely through the distortion interesting it looks like up ahead there's another barrier
Starting point is 00:28:29 similar to the one that we had to pass the first riddle to go beyond do you see another clue around there or do we just have a terrifying door? I'm going to take a peek around this corner, and red just steps down the steps and turns to the corner to the east, just to see what's around there. It's just a set of double wooden doors.
Starting point is 00:28:50 There is also some very old blood on the ground. Just a bunch of old blood. Oh, that's... How old? Why don't we ready up at this door? Open it tactical style. and hope that there's nothing on the other side. And it's at this moment, too, before proceeding,
Starting point is 00:29:11 that Dorn pulls out his journal, and you see him feverishly making notes. Dear mom. I meant to write you sooner, but I've just been busy. What are you scribbling? Do you want to tell the audience or no? It's reminders of everyone's names. No, it's the, he's basically writing down his name,
Starting point is 00:29:31 who he is a little bit of where we're from. and in case we lose our memory again. Oh, I see. Very cool. I like that. So it is writing down reminders of the names. I was right. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:44 I thought for a second you were doing like a dungeon map in a dungeon, which I don't think I've ever seen a D&D character do and suddenly really like. You know what I mean? How you do like the grid? That'd be really fun. Dorn, why don't you take the front? And red stays at the corner, draws his bow as like partial cover. Um, do you mean, you want me to go?
Starting point is 00:30:04 first all right just in case oh i can if you want sure i figured i mean i figured in the tactical moments i figured dorin takes the front red somewhere to be able to fire through the open door slit i don't know differentiating between like stealth and combat that's my logic i mean it's a big creaky wooden door i don't know i figure we have like a mode c mode you know and b no b mode no b we go a to c my daughter's not here. B does not. Doran, there are these heavy wooden doors that block your way forward and from underneath a almost rust brown colored blood stain is leaked out.
Starting point is 00:30:45 Is it look like it's dried blood? Yeah. Yeah. And red like nods at you knowing that you're going to do like a count and his like bow is drawn. Like we have this silent and ready. Inspecting the door a little bit further to see where the, the hinges are, is this an open in or a push out?
Starting point is 00:31:07 It pushes out. Yeah, Doren looks back at red and with a holding his fingers up with a one, two, three, gives the door a very firm, continuous push. Not like a quick shove, but like pushes it open. You open the doors, Doren, and look through into a dark chamber. A long rectangular room lies before you with two central pillars. Along each side, simple and ancient sarcophagi lie in rows. Many of them appear to have been disturbed.
Starting point is 00:31:46 Piles of bones are scattered on the ground. There are some fresher corpses here too, not so fresh that you would be looking around for anyone to fight necessarily. Probably in line approximately with the corpse in the previous room, but definitely not fallen to bones from decay. An inscription on the wall reads, Eternal Rest for those who died in the service of Kallamfor. Doran turning back and sort of in a somewhat comedic fashion,
Starting point is 00:32:22 puts his hand to his mouth, and he kind of whispers under his breath to the three of you, Oh, that's a pretty horrific scene even for me. Red puts his arrow away and steps forward. At least it's empty from the living. Yeah. Shall we poke around? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:44 It doesn't look like there's any danger per se. And as he, Doran begins to enter, he's going to look for traps as well. Maybe anything in the ceiling that's ready to fall. Sure. We have the shortest one look at this roof Just to make sure that they've got the best perspective These walls are untouched We got red look at the floor
Starting point is 00:33:03 Marri at the ceiling There's just spikes coming to work All the enemies along the walls are just like We got the perfect spot It's never look side to sign What'd you get? Ooh, a seven There's like 45 spiders here
Starting point is 00:33:20 Friends What do they have to say Dorn's not really sure What he's looking for Yeah, and Red joins Doren in the room. Mari also comes in and sort of walks into the middle and sort of looks around. Standing in the room and looking at all of these, there is this kind of feeling that Mari has where she can almost feel the edge of that space,
Starting point is 00:33:46 the in between where she went when she took Elister back from death. And just that knowledge, that feeling that, like the awareness that that is there. just kind of rest somewhere in her brain. It's almost like she kind of like wants to like feel her way back there but stops herself because obviously all these corpses are way too dead to do anything with. But it's like a heavy sensation. I feel like moving deeper into this place, it's getting like closer almost. The constant feeling that there is this slightly open door behind you
Starting point is 00:34:22 and there's like a quiet breeze coming through and you can't really ever close it again. Well, I guess we should see who these people were and Red walks over to one of the sarcophagi and maybe starts looking around, seeing if there's any sort of identifying marks if they're buried with any sort of
Starting point is 00:34:39 heraldry. It's unfortunate because a lot of these sarcophagi are desecrated, as I mentioned. Their lids torn off, their bones strewn across the floor, but these are ancient remains, maybe
Starting point is 00:34:56 maybe thousands of years old. Red, between the sarcophagi on the floor, there are a couple of corpses that are much younger than the moldy bones from ancient calumvirites. There's a probably human and maybe a halfling judging by the size or else potentially a child, it's hard to tell. A halfling and a human here, I guess,
Starting point is 00:35:24 and red sort of goes through their pockets. Mm-hmm. Mm. Nothing of value. Looks like these two might have been killed alongside the one in the other room, maybe. I mean, well, they're not wearing the same heraldry that the cultists were wearing, so presumably they're not part of that faction, and they're clearly far too young to be part of the Kellenverites.
Starting point is 00:35:45 At least these ones. Someone did something in here. Do you think they're just other adventurers who thought they were going to score big in a dragon's hoard? Maybe. Not many enter a dragon's lair and live to tell the tale. Thank you to our wonderful patrons, Ace.
