Starting point is 00:00:00 Mari, how much longer till the weather breaks? The rain part's fine. I have no recollection of this place. It's the success of it all. I don't know if they found it all, but let's pull it out and just see. Pull it out, Jackie. Wait, what are they looking for? Oh, great. Who's on the bridge?
Starting point is 00:00:14 The first rain of spring really does something to them? Dissorienting. 90% of the things you give me a food, that's not my fault. Something that makes me very proud every time I see it. Bye, Mari! Take care of the Mari problem, and away we go. Here you are, atop. One of the greatest achievements in all the land.
Starting point is 00:00:30 Welcome back to Dice Shame. This is Season 2, episode 122, put to rest. Happy holidays from all of Dice Shame. This week, MVP, is you. That's right. Thank you to every single person who's listened through every episode of Dice shame, even the really dry ones. It means the world to us.
Starting point is 00:01:02 Thank you so much for joining us on this adventure. Happy holidays, and thank you for everything you've given us. All right. Should we get down to business? Yeah, let's do it. This is the kind of question that I ask myself every once in a while. Who am I? Who am I?
Starting point is 00:01:28 Where do you want to? to be or what do you want to be doing in one hour if you had a million dollars if you got a million dollars right now okay do you have to spend it in an hour no no no but you receive it now and you have one hour where do you want to be and it's funny money i have to assume it's funny money i'm going to say we can't invest it or any of that boring shit i mean it's 850 at night are you going to be like oh i'm going to invest it right now i'm i mean that can be your answer i'm definitely getting all of us together right now. I'm calling Uber's to everyone's house.
Starting point is 00:02:02 We're meeting up somewhere. I love that. I would load it and you're like, guys, got a million dollars. Call your own Uber. Get over here. Come over, guys. No way.
Starting point is 00:02:13 I'm going to do the opposite. I'm getting a limo to each of your homes. Oh, that's fun. And then I'm going to take you to the largest mansion. And I'm just going to pay the guy whatever he wants to get the hell out for the night and be like, I'll hire the cleaners and pay for them the next day and hire them already so that they're ready. Hire a DJ, get a DJ on the phone, be like, yo, I want the sickest DJ. Hey, Chuck, it's your cousin, Mark Berry.
Starting point is 00:02:43 Listen, on the way over, I'm going to be sitting in the back of that limo with like eight things of champagne. Call everybody you know, get to one, two, three, bridal path way in Toronto now. We're partying at Drake's place? Oh, no. Bridal Pathway? Well, like, whatever, the big bridal path in Toronto is the one they totally do that. Oh, I thought you were making that up. It sounds like a fake thing.
Starting point is 00:03:07 I don't know if that was a real address is. Yeah, bridal path is like where all the fancy big mansions are. I don't know. I don't know what's called Bridal Path place. I love that. Party? I'm into that one hour party. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:18 A party. Because the other thing is. The biggest party you'll ever have. It sounds silly, but you could also be like, be like, Rob's like, nah, I shouldn't. It's a work night. I'd be like, give you a thousand bucks if you come tonight. I think I'll in sick for sure Pay some fucking people to make a night to remember
Starting point is 00:03:32 Yeah I think everyone who comes to my party gets Get 500 bucks Variations on a theme of what Alex is proposing there I would probably pick somewhere central Because an hour very hard to get to anywhere in Toronto In an hour and we're trying to all meet somewhere in the same place Toronto is an hour away from Toronto 4.07
Starting point is 00:03:50 Take a helicopter, yo But getting a helicopter to your house in an hour is very hard You'll be sitting there waiting for Uber helicopter And we'll be downstairs We've taken out a whole restaurant We've bought the whole place out I've invited all my friends And I've sent $500 Ubers to their house to pick them up
Starting point is 00:04:06 Yes, dinner Where do we go for dinner? I want to go to a schmancy breakfast Yeah Let's go to a labanan A steakhouse or something I got like a list Red Lobster
Starting point is 00:04:15 All you can eat We're all going to spaghetti factory boys Yay As much cheesecake as you desire Guys let's say we each get a million dollars. Oh. Five million and we can spend it tonight.
Starting point is 00:04:29 That's going to be a hell of a party. We're flying. We all wake up hungover on a private jet flying somewhere. We're flying. And who's flying? With all of our friends. Me, I'm flying. Oh, God.
Starting point is 00:04:40 I bet there's a concert downtown tonight. Yeah, on a Wednesday. Yeah. It's Wednesday night is Taylor Swift night at the horse. I think Blink Y-A-2 is playing on Sunday or something. We get Blink to play a show fun. That's for us. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:55 I mean, if I was like, you know, $10,000 or $50,000, I don't know how much Blink goes for you know. You know what? I don't know. Probably not that much to be on. That's good. No, I don't know. No? They're not that, you know. Current. I'm into that. I'm into a house party. DJ, you know, buy out the LCBO. Get everybody that we know on the street. You know, people will show up a little bit late, but the core crowd would be there. Thumping music. I want to get a light crew in there. So it's like dim. Like the kind of, you know, house parties you see in the movies. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like that kind of shit. The start of a horror movie where like everyone's having a great time. No, like a Van Wilder, you know, crazy, that type of old school party, you know.
Starting point is 00:05:35 Even a million dollars wouldn't go that far. Don't start math. You can't do that. Don't do math. No math. I mean, this would be awesome. Then we bring in like the inflatable jumping. Yes.
Starting point is 00:05:47 You guys ever remember watching Richie Rich or reading Richie Rich? Yeah. God, money's so good. money would make me so happy the cause of and solution to all of life's problems i want to go shopping i want to go yeah i want to go get some like a nice new wardrobe yeah that's my vibe so we'll like alice and i will come to the party but we have to shop on the way there yeah yeah we're gonna look so fucking take your limos i mean there's something to getting like a properly tailored fit something that could be yeah just to be like hey i hear you're good i'm gonna pay you whatever you want
Starting point is 00:06:24 to get up in the middle of the night and meet me at your place. So what we're saying is in one hour. We all want to be dumb and dumber. Yes. What we're saying is we want to do the montage for dumb and dumb. Dumb and Dumb and Dumb and was on to something. And we just need to go back to.
Starting point is 00:06:38 Well, I think also too, within that hour, like if you're planning this whole party, you could book appointments in the future, like pay up front and be like, hey, tomorrow I'm going to go get the suit made and everything. So because if you're spending the money, like if there's a timeline on this, like I'm just paying everything.
Starting point is 00:06:54 up front and then just going Yeah You do all that And then you arrive And they're like Okay thank you For all your credit And now
Starting point is 00:07:02 You must pay the balance Which is Everything that you promised On the phone You're like Two million The money wasn't there No you said
Starting point is 00:07:13 That the money would be there And it wasn't Peace out of here I become a spider And I leave I got French halfway To this conversation Yes of course
Starting point is 00:07:22 Because we only make The finest close here at this establishment. French people make the finest clothes. Naturally. Le h and le M. Just because I'm French doesn't mean I can't work in a nice fancy clothing shop. I love this French.
Starting point is 00:07:38 He's very good. He's going to make me look like a new woman. There you are. Trying so hard. Cool. So champagne, caviar, everybody. Let's do it. Big party.
Starting point is 00:07:49 Caviar with chips is really nice. Yeah, caviar with like really nice potato chips. It's real good. I've never been. You know what? I'm just going down to the cheese monger at the end of the block, buying everything, and we're going to sample every cheese they got. That's the party.
Starting point is 00:08:03 Let's have a cheese party. Right? You know, that's all we need. Joking aside, that would be kind of fun. It would be really fun. Cheese is great. Not just a cheese party, but yes, but also. Close St. Lawrence Market and just walk through private.
Starting point is 00:08:16 That was somebody else for an entire evening, you know, like walk around, pretending I was somebody famous. With a French accent for instance Since I perfected it I see we were going now I get it Never mind it took me a while Well I could be the most
Starting point is 00:08:34 I could do another accent Was that What was that? I don't know where I was going With that Sling blade Or you could pretend to be a Dwarven fighter Maybe
Starting point is 00:08:44 Oh My name's Dorn Dorn Dorn Iron Fiss I had brothers you know I'm a southern version For the rest of the show Maher got mad because I lost my brothers in the mine. And now, red is French now.
Starting point is 00:08:58 Doreen, iron fist. Marie and Jack don't even change. It's just like, yeah, yeah, I'm from somewhere else right now. Dorin, what are you doing? Oh, French Red. French Red. Rouge. Rouge.
Starting point is 00:09:13 If you had to change your character's accent, what would they be? Right now, red is kind of English. right I guess I don't know what else he's just high strut
Starting point is 00:09:27 he's just high strong he's just he'd be long in English rule way back now
Starting point is 00:09:29 blah blo blo oh what else could you do a scouse accent no
Starting point is 00:09:34 it could be German red I am German much more serious so harsh Jack
Starting point is 00:09:39 just talks like this now oh he's just a he's just a weird
Starting point is 00:09:44 little archaeologist into his books whoa me alone I'm gonna play in the
Starting point is 00:09:48 dirt kind of gruff and lower Jack got into his Keanu Reeves
Starting point is 00:09:52 face I would just take like, I would just take Mari's so peppy. I would just be like in full like, in just full like, yoga voice we're just going to do this. It's going to be so good guys. You can't. That's illegal. No, I'm going to do it.
Starting point is 00:10:05 Joe killer. Kill Marry. We're going to be like, Mary, walk down this road. It's totally safe. Okay. Dorin, let the bowler drop. The character's engineer at PBPDA. Pardon me.
Starting point is 00:10:19 Yeah. Pardon me. Yeah, what had you said to me. Drop the bow. older on Marie. For some reason, they're bold French. The bolder, I will. It just concks her and that catches her,
Starting point is 00:10:29 conks her in the head, and then this voice comes back. Oh, my God. Guys, I had the weirdest dream. That is a petit baddie. Jacques. What do you see in the dark? Dorn and Red, two French brothers. I like it.
Starting point is 00:10:44 It's a vibe. I like this too. Maybe we should play the whole episode in their accents. I do not think that is a good idea. I mean, you could go for it. I'm not sure we should do the rest of the intro. I'll be over here. Ruge, what's what's it in the tunnel?
Starting point is 00:10:59 Jacques and Camon, Marie december, please. Devolving into something rapidly here. All right, shall we do this? Yeah, let's play some... Honest to God, Dungeons and Dragons. The party continues east along the stone trail. and you spend another couple hours traveling before you come to something reminiscent
Starting point is 00:11:28 from a couple of months ago. There's a long furrow cut into the ground beside the road. It's maybe four or six inches wide in places and it's about 20 feet long. I have no recollection of this place. No, you don't. don't remember this place in particular, but you've found a furrow similar to this in the Desert and Valley previous.
Starting point is 00:12:02 Red rolls history. Sure. You're not giving it to us. I mean, you're just trying to remember a thing? I don't know, yeah. I don't think you need to roll for that. Red remembers. I'd like to use the remember ability.
Starting point is 00:12:19 What is this? I have it. You gave it to me. What was this? I have a keen mind. I can accurately recall anything I've seen or heard in the past month. It was before that.
Starting point is 00:12:28 Two months ago, nerd. All right. It was before that. You're like, oh. If only I wasn't also very smart. Strange, vague memory about something. It must have been just over a month ago. When you had been encountering fire giants in this area previous,
Starting point is 00:12:46 you found a long furrow like this near an ex-examine. excavation site. Oh yeah. Right, right. Hey, this looks like the one where we saw the fire giants had excavated something. That's right. I think the rod of the Vonundad, right? That's right. Well, no, I think we got that from the guy on the bridge, but they were using that to find the stuff that was hidden. Yeah, they were digging. You know what? I don't know if they found it all, but let's pull it out and just see. Whip it out, Jack. Pull it out, Jackie. Yeah, show everyone where you guys. Jack it out. Jack steps down off his chariot and unfolds his portable hole and pulls out the rod
Starting point is 00:13:26 of the Von and Dodd, this... Finds his rod. Six foot long tuning fork and gives it a tap and looks for anything Adamantine. You don't find anything made of adamantine within the allotted area. Huh, I guess they found it. That doesn't bode well. Or it was never here. Well, I think it probably was here.
Starting point is 00:13:49 a random place to dig otherwise. No, you're right. My brain is a little foggy today. It's all right. You're also very smart, so... Yeah. You beat a charm today, and that's the important thing. Just rattled your brains up a little bit.
Starting point is 00:14:02 It wasn't expecting it. Wait, what are they looking for? Something made of adamanty. Which one is it that's X-Men and which one is D&D? Adamantine is the D&D one, because it's what's in the Rod of the Vonn and that description. Adamantium, I think, is Wolverine. All right, jack off that rod. Let's go.
Starting point is 00:14:19 Yes, sir. You can't. Jack off that rod. Mount Robin, we'll get there. Jack, off that rod. Jack off that six-foot rod. Cool. You guys done here?
Starting point is 00:14:33 I don't know. Red licks the dirt. It's fresh spring dirt. This is fresh spring dirt, and he touches the dirt. It's been dug up approximately one hour. to one month ago. That and he like rolls the dirt between his fingertips. And then I'll, yeah, I'll roll to see if I can tell how fresh the hole is.
Starting point is 00:15:01 Sure, survival. I guess we know it's at least long enough for if they did get something out of this hole that was adamantine, it's moved 10 miles away from here. So it can't be that fresh. Dirty 20. Whoa. Yeah, this furrow is quite old. The ravages of the weather have sort of,
Starting point is 00:15:19 dulled the edges and there's some frozen water deep within, you would say maybe six weeks or six, ten day? It's about six, ten day ago. This was dug up. Whatever was in here was definitely taken. You can see there, the shape of it was pretty big. Doran's sort of standing at the edge of the group party here, scanning the horizon, scanning the surroundings for giants, fire giants.
Starting point is 00:15:49 What do you see, boy? I don't see anything right now, but, uh, guaranteed we're hot on the trail of something. Maybe, it might be fire giants. At least six weeks, hawk. I mean, that's what we came across last time in this exact area. Doran, as you cast your experienced adventurer's eye around the landscape, you see in the far, far, far distance, the desert in hills and some storm clouds. beginning to build up around them. You are going to get wet soon.
Starting point is 00:16:23 Yay. Jack off that rod. We want to get wet. Tell you one thing. It might not be fire giants, but storms coming. I'm ready. All right, Wim, let's go.
Starting point is 00:16:33 Wim climbs on her horse whose name I will never say again. Taylor Swift. No, okay. I don't... Pretty sure she had Taylor Swift. Nersal had Jesse.
Starting point is 00:16:46 Alex had RICO and I had Rob because we switched. Look at you. I originally had Rico, I think. Mm-hmm. And you write off. The rain drenches you to your bones. It is cold, and you haven't seen the sun in hours. This spring evening is not doing anyone any favors.
Starting point is 00:17:11 I'm feeling fine. Everything I said was a lie. You're still cold, Mary. It's feeling great. It's still cold. God. fine with the rain. She's the babyest of all.
Starting point is 00:17:22 She's like soaking wet, but she's like, but this is it too cold rain. This is fine. She's like, I need another blanket. Mari's just pulled her coat around her. The rain part's fine. It's the cold. Yeah, Doran's sort of dancing around in the rain,
Starting point is 00:17:35 cleaning himself. It's kind of nice to get all this junk out of my beard every now and then. I imagine all of us are just on our horses watching this. Like we pulled over the side of the road for his like cleaning. And we're all just like... Weird rain dance. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:49 It's always nice. to see Doran get his first, you know, wet on. I need you to not say it like that. The first rain of spring really does something to him. Like my outer wear is draped over my horse's saddle, and I'm just sort of like... Fuck naked. Muddling around in the puddles in my undergarments.
Starting point is 00:18:09 Refreshing. It's a little chilly, but it's nice. It's not nice. Nice and scrubbed up, and I'll be fresh. Do you guys make candy? camp tonight, or are you going to continue on? That's my camp. I don't want to go off the Stonebridge all rainy and wet.
Starting point is 00:18:25 We might fall. No, that makes perfect sense. Are you being sarcastic again? That sounded sarcastic. Doren, didn't that sound sarcastic? Maybe. No, we should find some shelter. Jack says, sitting on his chariot with a little canopy over top.
Starting point is 00:18:42 Jack, oh my. Smoking a cigar. The ill rune keeping him warm. His feet up. Oh, it's good. I hate you so much. Can you set up that tent? What's that called? Yeah. Lehman's Tiny Hut.
Starting point is 00:18:54 Yeah. When my brain got scrambled, I, I... Oh, you lost it. I lost that one. R.P. Lehman's Tiny Hut. No more warmth for you guys. I'm under this canopy dry and safe. Sorry.
Starting point is 00:19:06 That's all right. We can do it the old-fashioned way. Red hops down and starts cutting down boughs of trees and stringing up the tarp. As we've been riding through the rain, Wim has seemingly gotten like smaller and smaller and smaller on top of her horse because of how much she's just like huddling into herself to not be wet and rained on and she's just sitting there come here a whim red walks over and like picks her up like unmoving like she's almost frozen you know what i mean like rigor mortis he just like picks up this little ball of girl
Starting point is 00:19:37 and puts her on her shoulder and walks over to the campsite and puts her down on her bedroll like everyone else is in color and she's in like gray scale black and white right now warm up little one miserable red starts the fire yeah Doran's sort of pushing through as well and in collecting wood bits here and there and stacking them on as he begins to set up some sort of tarp shelter as well. Her two small hands protrude from her cloak and sort of rub themselves as the first tongues of flame spring up from the logs of the campfire. And she looks up to you red and she's developed kind of like a sign language that you can kind of interpret. Yeah, like a shorthand. A little bit.
Starting point is 00:20:20 And she's also malving the words, but she says it's hard to be an adventurer sometimes. Hell's yeah, girl. Hells, yeah. Especially when you got, well, we got beans, a hard tack, or salt pork for dinner. Raise your hand if you want any of those. Oh, yeah, all three, please.
Starting point is 00:20:40 None of them are jerky. I'm down. Yeah, none of them are jerky. Red Winks at whim. It's all jerky in just different states. Like slightly jelly. Bean jerky, hard tack jerky, a salt pork jerk. How do you make bean jerky?
Starting point is 00:20:54 I spoke too soon. The red soaks the beans and starts the fire and has the salt pork in the water. And don't forget to soak the hardtack. As you're doing these like food chores, she signs, what keeps you going? Oh, man. The tomorrow. The tomorrow of it all. Not just the next day, but the tomorrow, you know, and he gets down next to her.
Starting point is 00:21:21 Behind every cloud is something, behind every tree is something more. Every bend in the road just lays out a future, a possible choice, a possible chance encounter. Look at today, we got to meet this giant. Never than a million years when I thought I'd have my arms around an only, let alone be crying on one. And that's what yesterday's tomorrow brought. So to me, tomorrow is the best thing that could ever happen, because it's infinite possibilities bring me such joy to think about. And that's why you're out here today.
Starting point is 00:22:03 Exactly. Because of my tomorrow, and tomorrow and tomorrow. If you ask me, it's the success of it all. I mean, really, you can fail today And you gotta get up tomorrow Might as well make the best of it You might just succeed that day That and the vigor of living
Starting point is 00:22:24 Look at this out here And he's in his wet undergarments now You see, I mean sometimes Push through Yeah, I'm gonna be cold and wet here In about a few minutes But I'm starting to dry up And tomorrow I'll be right as rain
Starting point is 00:22:38 No pun intended Unless it's not raining anymore Yeah, hopefully not raining. She sort of tucks herself up underneath the side of your cloak red to get out of the rain just a little more. And she leans her head on your chest and she gestures out at Mari and Jack. Why do they do it? She signs, why would you travel through the rain? It's just a little rain. You know, a couple of weeks ago, I'd have, I'd have probably just said it's you know, our calling or something.
Starting point is 00:23:15 You know, we've had all kinds of crazy stuff happened in the last couple of weeks and all these giants and all that stuff. But I think that's probably not true. I think the end of the day, man, there's stuff we don't know, just buried under rocks and, you know, around every corner.
Starting point is 00:23:32 Fred's got it exactly right. I could be somewhere warm. You know, we could be somewhere warm. It just would be somewhere familiar. And there's, uh, not a lot of comfort in familiar places sometimes. So true. I mean, there is a very large world out there in Mari sort of gestures. And there's so much that you can see if you keep moving forward.
Starting point is 00:24:01 And some days, the only thing pushing you forward is just putting one step, one foot in front of the other. But there are lots of days where it was a lot. it's a lot easier and it's a lot more worth it and it's a lot more fun and you have to take the good and the bad and as she says that like a whole bunch of like a branch shakes above her just a bunch of water falls in her head just joins the rest of the water that lives in her hair at all times she's kind of like ringing it out like a waterfall that doesn't end and whims like breathing has slowed and she's actually fallen asleep just like tucked up beside you red.
Starting point is 00:24:44 Whim, you fell asleep! Whim! Friken talking to you and you just fall asleep. So rude. Mari, how much longer till the weather breaks? And she casts Druid Craft which creates a little
Starting point is 00:25:00 orb of what the weather's going to be like. When she casts the orb, it forms and the gray doesn't stop. It just swirls and spins clouds. and water glittering in it with these faint little licks of lightning on the edge of it
Starting point is 00:25:19 and it disappears with a tiny thunderclub and she looks at Jack and goes yeah I think I think we're going to have to get a little bit used to being a lot damp damn we won't get much of a view from the top of that bridge we will not we'll have to break it to whim tomorrow
Starting point is 00:25:38 she's asleep Fair enough It's so smelly Guys You need to get this girl Deodorant Murray Ham's read like a little bit of like a eucalyptus oil
Starting point is 00:25:52 Just to like rub under his nose Oh thank you Red drinks it The whole thing Oh it burns But I guess you know what's best I never learn everything I hand you In the mouth
Starting point is 00:26:06 It's ingested immediately It's like a toddler It's got one orifice it goes in. 90% of the things you give me a food, that's not my fault. That's true, that's true. Anyway, beans and salt pork on its way. Red starts stirring the pot. The next day's travel brings the party to the stone bridge.
Starting point is 00:26:25 And as always, it is a marvelous sight, despite the torrential downpour. As you approach it from the west, you see this massive feat of engineering splitting the valley plains in half. There it is. No, sorry. No, that's totally fine. Splitting the... Splitting the valley plains in half, north and south.
Starting point is 00:26:54 There it is. Fuck you, I said it first. There it is, Red says, reverentially. Here we are. Look, Doran, I'll point it out to you. Ah, yes. You know, it's kind of ominous to see the top of it stuck in the clouds. We're going to go up a ways.
Starting point is 00:27:17 Yes, quite ominousy. As you approach, you see that there is a lone figure sitting on the bridge with their feet dangling off the edge, looking off to the north. Oh. Maybe a kilometer away. Looks like someone's sitting on the bridge. Huh. I hope they're being careful.
Starting point is 00:27:39 You know when you go to, like, when you were a kid and you go to the park and you're like, you're hoping to get to the park and there's nobody there. But then there's like somebody there. You're like, uh, I got to try and figure out if I'm going to play with these people or just like avoid them. Yeah. Sort of Doran's feeling. You guys are to judge how old they are comparative. Oh, great. Who's on the bridge?
Starting point is 00:27:58 There's a bunch of teenagers on the bridge. Let's go. That one's flicking a lighter. It's scary. We can go around the other way. They're all dressed in a hot topic. I was going to divan a t-shirt on. I don't know who they are.
Starting point is 00:28:11 Social interactions, gross. That one's hair is long. That one's got a hacky sack. So there's someone sitting on the bridge. Well, let's go. Maybe a new friend. Red rides ahead next to Wim. Mari's following right behind, keeping an eye on the person.
Starting point is 00:28:27 Can I just sort of ascertain if they're just sitting there casually or are they... Are they sitting there ready to fight? They've got a weapon pointed at us. They're like 800 meters away. So all you can pretty much see is that they're like a medium-sized person and which like which way they're sitting. In 200 meters I can attack them. Don't worry. All right.
Starting point is 00:28:51 Oh. Well, this is not a fire giant like we saw here last. Could be. Perspective is weird. This is true. Maybe he's just even farther away than you thought. Yeah. As you ride your horses up this.
Starting point is 00:29:07 incredible bridge. It's a little bit disorienting. I mean, it's only 15 feet wide. There are no railings or barriers on either side. So you definitely want to stick to the middle, although you're not really like keeping your balance necessarily, but it is strange. And as you ascend this bridge, because it does head up quite a bit, you almost lose sight of the water. that passes underneath you. Disorienting. Sorry it's so cloudy whim, but hey, Red sort of rides next to Whim,
Starting point is 00:29:49 and he says, you know, I've been here before and I don't remember how it looked. And Red casts minor illusion and a five-foot square like from the perspective of standing atop the stone bridge on like a bright, sunny day just like appears before her. So she can kind of get the image of what
Starting point is 00:30:07 would have looked like. I like that. Very nice. See, down there? That's where we pushed a fire giant off. Way over there is water deep and over there is the holes of the hunting axe and this is what it would look like on any other day. She gives you a high five.
Starting point is 00:30:26 And red high fives back, but misses. And then she opens up one of the pockets in her cloak and she reveals that she's been gathering stones for who knows how long and she starts to just like toss them over the side of the bridge like as far as she can. Nice. Doran walks up right after Wim is presented with this image by Red.
Starting point is 00:30:52 And Doran says to Wim, Now imagine for a moment you see up there on the top of the bridge a great battle between Thorold Flamedong. and a hill giant that that's where he fell and this is actually a temple to Moradin did you know that this here is a temple to my god just imagine the strength and the power
Starting point is 00:31:20 of the fight that would have happened there just like when we fought the fire giant anyways something that makes me very proud every time I see it she hops down off of her horse and then stops the horse. And she, like, really considers the stones that are underfoot. And then she, like, lays down on the bridge to, like, feel it under her body.
Starting point is 00:31:53 Exactly. Can you feel it running through your soul? You know, the hands that went into building this. thousands of years ago. Every time we come here, every time I've been here, I feel it running through my veins and my bones.
Starting point is 00:32:13 Oh, it gives me the chills. She sits up and she goes like, whoo, like does a little shimmy shake of her shoulders, like, whew, I feel it. And we ride on towards the figure who's sitting on the bridge. Absolutely, yes. There is a lone human man.
Starting point is 00:32:32 You're about maybe 200 meters away. from him. He's got his feet dangling in the air above the Dessarine River. And as you approach, you're able to tell that he's just kind of chilling. He's got his feet swinging a little bit. Well, met stranger. He sort of turns to the side and raises a hand in salutations, but doesn't really acknowledge you otherwise. Quite the weather, huh? Murray hops down and sits beside him. Yeah, he looks sort of to the side at you, Mari, and nods. It's not much of a view right now.
Starting point is 00:33:10 I feel like it's mostly just cloud. Yeah, unfortunately, this is the second day where I have been afforded an ill view. You've been here for two days? Just hanging out, or are you waiting for anything to see in particular? Just waiting for the clouds to part?
Starting point is 00:33:30 I'm here for the bridge. well met Master Dwarf And what name do you go by And Doren holds out a hand Yoro Akeen And he shakes your hand No, no, I'm a dwarf But sorry, I didn't catch your name
Starting point is 00:33:46 Oh, Yoro I'm so sorry I misunderstood He's usually so careful with names Are you also making a pilgrimage To the bridge well and dorin kind of observes the individual looking for especially signs of like vandalism it's sort of sounds silly but like what is this person doing in here and they better not be doing
Starting point is 00:34:15 something to yeah cause problems on the sacrilegious site roll perception for me who rolling dice whoa dice roll I'm gonna sing a song until I can read what I rolled. Okay, dokey. That's going to be a 15. You don't see any scratchings or etchings. He hasn't been spray painting anything. But there are places where he's been sitting where there are no raindrops.
Starting point is 00:34:48 Like underneath where his shoulders and elbows would have been. It's clear that he's been sitting here long enough that the spot underneath him is dry. Pilgrimage, you could call. call it that, yes. We are traveling and decided to take this way, partially because it's on route and partially because, uh, well, it's just an astonishing sight that I always feel invigored and brought back to my, my, my heritage when I, when I visit here. What, what brings you here on your own pilgrimage, I suppose? In a way, yes. I'm from water deep, a stone mason.
Starting point is 00:35:34 Oh, very good. And though I don't share your bloodline, I suppose I share the love of this rock. He just pats it. Uh, well, that, that is the words of friendship to me. Do you mind if I sit with you for a moment? Please, please sit. Yeah. Mari, Yoro, Doran.
Starting point is 00:35:59 Red and Wim are just on their horses Just watching all this happen Whim's like I already did my lying down thing I'm not lying down again She's just fucking throwing rocks as hard as her tiny Yeah red is also throwing rocks with Wim On the other side of the bridge There's just having their own conversation
Starting point is 00:36:15 What do you think blue looks like to everybody else Shrugs and points at a color that's not blue Murray's just sitting beside this guy And she's also got her feet dangling off the edge And she's kind of she's enjoying it in this way that the whole thing reminds like the feeling of the wind and everything reminds her when she's turned into like a bird or a bat or something else
Starting point is 00:36:35 and that feeling of flight and there's that little nagging feeling where she's like just do it just turn into a bird go flying again. It'll be great where the weather is terrible be like turned into a duck. Do you feel compelled to wild shape? Is it like an itch?
Starting point is 00:36:49 It's something that like when there are definitely moments where it's like whether if the emotion is strong enough whether it's like I want to run away or I want to fight or I want to just be totally free. That desire to turn into an animal
Starting point is 00:37:06 is definitely stronger. So what do you do? You just feel this feeling in your body? I think she just turns into a bat and leaves. Goodbye everyone. Bye fuckos. See you losers. Or does she jump before changing?
Starting point is 00:37:22 Oh, that would be so cool though if she just like threw her yourself off without telling you guys. I think if I had the ability to shape shift, I would definitely jump off of high things and then change shifts into like that's got to be an high intensity sport, like that
Starting point is 00:37:38 cliff diving or what's the one of like bungee jumping. Base jumping. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I want to. I love that. She jumps in a minute red throws a phaserous stone that he stole at her. Suppressing all magic. Yeah. Bye, Mari.
Starting point is 00:37:54 Dead now. Suicide. Catch you all saw it She did it herself Or even more clean Jack just casts a counter spell Yeah Takes care of the Mari problem And away we go
Starting point is 00:38:10 It is very tempting I have been the whole time Been thinking about just throwing her off the bridge And turning her into a bird Yorro Reaches within his cloak And he pulls out a vial And he taps it
Starting point is 00:38:23 And he sort of casts a side eye at Eudorant and he says these are my father's ashes. He'd never had a chance to visit the stone bridge before but he used to tell me stories. It was one of my favorite things at bedtime that he would do.
Starting point is 00:38:43 He would tell me about all the places that he'd seen pictures of in books, different castles and far-off lands, feats of building like this and I thought it would be a good place
Starting point is 00:39:02 to remember him I think it's really wonderful may I and he sort of puts his hand out to hold the urn of the ashes
Starting point is 00:39:14 yeat what you're not gonna you're not gonna throw it are you no no no no Dorn has a very sincere. I'm not red-handed Robin. Red would absolutely be like, whoa, can I see that?
Starting point is 00:39:30 Hi-ya! Red would not do that. And Doran holds it and looks back at Yoro and says, What's his name? Shorn. Shorn, father of Yoral. Here you are. He's sort of talking to the urn. Here you are. A top.
Starting point is 00:39:51 One of the greatest achievements. and all the land with your son how incredible and he passes back the urn do you intend to spread your father's ashes off this bridge I do
Starting point is 00:40:06 I'm just waiting for the sun Yara we just came from Waterdeep too we're doing a bit of a survey that lands around oh you've been up here for two days have you seen anybody interesting come across besides us I saw a band of travelers who were coming from the north
Starting point is 00:40:23 apart from that no one really it's been quiet well given the weather I guess that's understandable sorry about your father hopefully the sun comes out tomorrow
Starting point is 00:40:35 and you get to see a beautiful sunrise I'm ready to wait as long as it takes and he looks off into the weather well see ya whim walks over to Yoro and she taps him on the shoulder and he turns around
Starting point is 00:40:56 and she just holds out a rock and she gives him his very own rock and she nods and then turns around and walks away throw it or keep it or something and Mari cast Druid craft and this orb forms and on about half of it
Starting point is 00:41:16 there is this gray sort of swirling mass of clouds but there is an edge of sunlight that starts to creep in and push its way into it and push the clouds and the glittering moisture inside of it away and this dim light fills it. And it bursts with just the tiny little sound of a bird flying away. And around her she can feel the wind whipping and everything and she looks at Doran and Jack who are standing there and she goes, do you guys mind if I do something just for a little bit if we have a minute or two to spare? It's a marvelous place. Take your time.
Starting point is 00:41:53 Yeah, it is. Absolutely. What do you need to do? And she turns around and she steps out into the empty air and she drops and just disappears off the bridge. And from below, partway through, there's this little jingling sound. And then a bird comes soaring up like a heron, long legs behind it and long big wings. but normally the bird she turns into are like a shade of black or a crow or something and this one is a shimmering gray with no blue feathers on it and it soars.
Starting point is 00:42:33 Whoa, what the, oh, oh, oh, Mari. Wow. That better be her. Just a random bird. Which one is she? Don't worry, guys, I got dinner. Red pulls out his bow. Not seeing any of this.
Starting point is 00:42:49 Wait, no, Redd. Oh no Immediately she changes back to human Jokes on me I'm out of wild shapes That's one way we're doing it And yeah She just soars around
Starting point is 00:43:04 Enjoying the feeling of the wind And the freedom of it She also swoops over And she grabs as She sees one of the rocks that red throws And she like grabs it in her beak As she like flies by After a few enjoy
Starting point is 00:43:20 moments experiencing the freedom of weightlessness and thinking about maybe loved ones that have passed. You move on down the bridge towards your final destination. Starting point is 00:46:26 So See you next time Thanks for listening Oh my god Leave this guy alone He's just enjoying the view everyone Funny out of context though It's like some guys just sitting here
Starting point is 00:46:44 Waiting for the bus and you're like Hey buddy What's going on? Before you come to something reminiscent from a couple of months ago. Dorn, did you shit here a couple months ago? The dwarf shit in the woods. Right on the trail, it turns out. I don't know if this colors the scene for anyone, but ever since it got rainy out,
Starting point is 00:47:11 I was imagining Jack's chariot was pulled by a hippopotamus in a yellow rain slicker. I don't know why that's the image in my head. Smootage is very strange. I don't know that that's actually what's happening. It's just been what's been stuck in my life. It's adorable. I love it, actually. That's kind of not in-game, but I like that you actually thought that.
Starting point is 00:47:34 I was going to say, I love it. Not really, but. The characters are confused. Why is a hippo with the rain? What's a plastic yellow raincoat? Thank you.
