Uh, good, good morning.
If you tell the others right now, I will moon be immune later.
There's fear in this horse's eyes that I've never seen before.
Porridge, get to learn how to make that.
That's right, I didn't realize you were in here.
It'll be fine, it'll be fine.
Mmm.
Thoughtlessness instead of malice?
I really go for an apple right now.
So, just been kind of by myself.
I don't know if it's a good sign or a bad sign.
I thought you were up.
You made the promise that you would not make this weird.
You're right, you're right. I'm sorry.
Does this mean we have to get married now?
Welcome back to Dyshame.
This is Season 2, Episode 1.25, Make You Sweat.
MVP this week is Jack, I mean, Rob.
Who?
Rob Diobald, you have been part of Dyshame from the beginning,
and we have loved playing with you these past five and a half years.
my friend, you are this week's MVP.
Well done, Jack.
Well done, Rob the Horse.
All right, should we play some D&D?
Yeah, let's do it.
Woo!
How long do you think it would take you?
If you just kept aging, like, slowly and you were remotely healthy,
to realize that you were immortal.
At what point, like, what age would you be like,
I think I'm going to live forever?
Do you, oh, that's an interesting question.
Do you continue?
You said you age slowly.
Are you saying slower than the average person?
You're just like a thousand years old and dusty?
Are my faculties on par with a 90 year old?
I would say that you keep it.
You know what I mean?
Yeah, you keep, let's say like it's a, it's like slightly, like it's a little
sort of like you say you're a little more spry.
You're not like, I have Alzheimer's or something at like 90.
You're like, no, my brain's still pretty good.
But like physically you're still kind of.
to, you're, you're aging pretty hard.
Wait, that's not immortal?
But then once you hit like 110, you just stop aging.
But what, at what age would you, would you just, would you just, would you realize, like,
I think I'm just going to live forever, I think I'm immortal.
Like, where does that kick in?
Like, where does that kick in?
Like, you're like, when will I die?
I feel like immortality has to be baked into an age limit.
Like, like, I feel like the depiction of immortality that I need in, like, I feel like,
love is like you're locked in to like your 20 to 50 age range. You know, you don't really go above
50. Right. All right. I think that's, I think that's really the key to this question is, you know,
there's that adage of, but like you're as old as your feet you feel and you're as old as your
abilities. And I think if you still had your health and had your ability to move around and,
you know, I think there'd be a point where you suddenly realized, I don't have any peers anymore
because they're all dead or they're all in a home or they've slowed down. And I'm
still going.
Yes, if you're staying above the curve, for sure.
I don't know if you'd notice you're immortal, but you'd notice like, oh, something is
different about me.
Everyone I ever knew is dead.
Well, here's my second clarifying question then.
You said, when would you realize you're immortal?
Does this immortality also extend to, like, wounds and stuff?
Because I'll tell you, I'd probably realize I'm immortal in the middle I, like, fell off a
building and lived.
I love the idea, though, of someone like.
Like, just having that moment, they're like, let's test this out.
Like, maybe that is the thing.
I think that, like, if I, like, with our immortality comes the ability just to, like,
survive that kind of stuff.
Now, whether or not you're, like, magically healing, like, you know, like, Wolverine.
Yeah, Wolverine, various vampires, whatever.
Maybe you fall off the building and you end up, like, you know, breaking every bone,
but you're still alive.
But see, here's the funny thing.
When you think about it, staking a vampire through the heart is,
is pretty renowned now.
But the first vampire had to figure that out
in a pretty painful way.
So, imagine.
Taking most people through the heart does the job.
Yeah, that kills everyone.
Well, my point is, but not if you're immortal, Rob,
because if you're immortal, you'd be like,
nothing kills me.
Take that wooden spike and stab it through my hand.
And they're like, oh, wow.
And you're like, yeah, try right here in my chest
and then you die.
Like, what immortality breaker does your specific version
of immortality have?
Because I would be like, okay, I can fall off a building.
But what if I land in glass?
Does glass break my immortality?
Yes.
I want to know that now.
Like, what would your immortality breaker be then?
Like, Harlan, okay, imagine you're the kind of immortal where, like, yeah, you hit sort of
a certain age, and then you just stay that age.
What do I want my breaking immortality to be?
A coin from 1756 needs to be inserted into my left eye by a nun.
That's what breaks my immortality.
There you are.
You heard it here first, folks.
Just want something super specific and difficult.
achieve I was going the other way for me was gonna be like if I stay up past midnight
I'm fucked because it's funny need my beauty sleep literally I'm a Cinderella
immortal I want my immortality breaker to be rumple stilt skin level of complicated like I
want it to be like you'll never figure there's riddles and then I'm chanting around the woods
like they'll never figure out the penny in my left eye but then you find up you're buying up all the
all those coins so you can destroy them
so you can never be killed, but that means you've got
a hoard of them, and then the
intrepid hero comes along, fucks you
right up. Yeah, she's a nun.
I like that you're a villain as well.
Let's be real. Let's be real.
Hold on. Let's be real.
If we're immortal, you're going to have a villain arc.
I'm not saying it becomes the majority,
but you're telling me, 700 years old,
you're not going to be like, yeah, maybe I'll kill
a few people just to say.
You got to go through the face.
I'd be way before 700.
I'd be like that vigilante that's taken out all the pedophiles and the murders and, you know, the really bad people.
Because.
Sure.
Man, they're going to keep you in prison.
They're like, you've got 80 life sentences.
Oh, no.
I got time.
Yeah, but you can just like cut off pieces of your body and push them through the bars.
Until you get a big enough piece on the outside that it starts to stay.
You just need the majority outside.
Resurrection spell.
Just get yourself down the drain and you'll figure out.
Oh, no.
He's like one of those flat worms where it just turns into two Alexes.
Oh, boy, that's trouble.
This is a Stephen King film.
I would say 150.
Yes, way to answer the original.
I agree.
I mean, really.
Okay, if you were immortal,
but you could choose
for your body to stay at a
specific age, what age would you think?
Oh, I think we've
been this, done this way before. Can I say
30, but can I have a year run up to, like,
get fit? Like, I don't want to freeze
this body, but can I? I don't want
to zap. I don't want to zap to 30. I want like
29 and a half. You got six months.
Let me like real starve myself, get real
good, and then freeze it, okay?
No, no.
Got a little life end
the moment
It just happens
To imagine you're like 30
And then the genie or whatever
Picks the day
And it's like that day
You felt really loaded
You're like oh I'm so hungover
Yeah
What a curse
Probably like 22
You'd want me 22
I think I'd go with like
2025
Really I'm surprised
It's too young to me
I like early to mid 30s
Yeah
39 to 36
Because to me
Like early 20s
For your life
people aren't going to take you seriously at a certain point.
You know what I mean?
Exactly.
But 30 is like right in the middle where you could be old enough to be a parent
and not be like judged, you know, assuming I'd still want kids and stuff like that.
But you're still young enough that you still aren't going to be a sore thumb
when you want to go do fun stuff.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
To me, any younger than that, and it runs the risk of people just dismissing you.
Would your hair grow?
Probably not.
I'd be so mad.
Do you get stuck with a bad hair?
Yeah, you wouldn't be able to cut your hair.
I mean, if you cut it.
short, your only choice is to
shorter, unfortunately.
Oh, wow, a finite amount of hair.
Imagine, like, you get, like, one bad
bang trim and you're like, I'm so fucked,
I'm so fucked.
Butterfly clips forever now.
None of this, it'll just grow back.
It's not so bad. Bald is it look?
It's true. See? There's the plus
side to aging. Maybe it just grows really
slow. Because you see vampires
and they have, like, long, you know, fingernails
and some of them have long hair when they're, like,
really, really old. Some of them are bald, admittedly,
but some of them have like long hair.
So maybe it's just like really slowed down.
I feel like immortality is stasis, you know?
Like your cells aren't continuing.
But are elves immortal?
I don't know.
We should ask one.
Oh, that's a good idea.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Only half asked Robb.
Well, let's ask Rob.
Rob the horse.
You want to ask him a question?
He's just a, he's belligerent, I think.
El is all rewarding.
You're right.
We should ask Jack.
Should we play some dungeons of dragons?
Yeah.
Sure.
Good idea.
A pale sun dawns over the hamperat villa.
Watery and insubstantial, it's light barely strong enough to pierce the dusty windows of the stable house.
On the ground floor, the horses are gently wickering good mornings to each other and browsing the hay.
in their feed troughs, but up in the tidy loft, in a bed covered in soft flannel blankets.
Mari and Doran wake up together.
Oh, oh, good morning.
Good morning.
So, uh, does this mean we have to get married now?
Oh, you made the promise that you would not make this weird.
You're right, you're right. I'm sorry.
It was fun.
It was a good time.
Doran sort of sits up on the edge of the bed
and swings his legs over and sort of stretches.
Mari kind of, she's sitting in bed.
She's pretty, she's just relaxed.
She's just kind of hanging out for once.
And she's just watching Doran at this point,
almost amuse, sort of like this curiosity.
Then he turns over and he glances at your arm.
Oh, I see your, uh, the, the coloration is spreading a little bit more.
The calm smile on her face kind of twists a little bit as she realizes that she's very exposed at this moment.
And that the gray that's moving across her chest and arm has spread quite a bit more.
And it's still easy enough to hide from the others because the weather is cold and there's really no reason to have anything on display.
But she lays back in the bed.
I don't think that it's bad.
Yeah, like, don't, don't get me wrong.
You still look great.
Trust me.
Thank you.
You know, I wonder if it has anything to do with your magic.
It feels like I've been holding back,
and I hold back from you and from the others,
and I've been trying to keep myself under control.
And I guess I'm not totally ready to be honest about everything.
yet. You know, I don't know how I'm going to explain this, and she gestures to her leg arm to
jack and red. And I don't think I'm ready to talk about this, and she gestures to both of them.
But I don't think this is something bad, and it's felt good.
You seem like someone who knows what it means to heal and to change and to be changed by it.
Yeah. You kind of looks down.
out of his scarred body.
You hear a whistling gradually grow louder,
and then the stable door below you bangs open
as someone enters the stable house
and begins to sort of like mess around with the horses.
You can't really tell what they're doing from up in the loft
that you can't see them from where you are,
but someone's entered.
Ah, uh, uh, listen.
Yeah.
Marr, let's, uh, maybe we'll continue this conversation later.
And Doran's sort of like trippingly, starts getting on his clothes and like fumbling over himself.
She's just kind of slowly, languidly kind of doing that.
And she looks at Doran and gives him a big smile and goes, if you tell the others right now, I will moonbeam you later.
Uh, we're, uh, what are we going to tell people?
I guess, uh, I was just up here fixing the bed.
Yeah, for the whole night.
Well, I don't know, I'll explain all the crew.
It's not going to explain why your beard is so clean.
Oh, well, it's not going to explain why you have that magical glow to you either.
Okay, um, we, um, you're up here. I went for a walk. I don't know. When for a walk came back,
uh, you were helping me find something? That's right. I didn't realize you were in here. I slept
in the barn. Uh, I got drunk. That's right. I got drunk and I passed out downstairs. And then I
came upstairs because I heard that the bed was creaking. That's right. All right.
That's right.
You better
fucking hope that no one else
can cast speak with animals
because these horses
know exactly what happened last night.
What do you mean
the Druid convention is here?
God, we're so fucked.
The smash cut to red the next day
taking Rob the horse out
and being like,
you're so scared, Rob.
There's fear in this horse's eyes
that I've never seen before.
Something spooked you.
Immediately just kicks one of them in the head.
You got drunk. They'll believe that.
I don't know. I've been off just being moody and wandering the woods or something nearby.
They'll believe that, too.
That's right. But we could also just say that we slept in the same bed. I mean, that's not so weird, is it?
I know.
We do sleep in the same bed sometimes.
That's true. No one's going to find that weird.
Are we overthinking this? I think we're overthinking this.
It'll be fine. It'll be fine. But it'll be, it'll be fine.
It will be fine.
You look down in both of you are holding hands.
Oh, listen, Doran's pulling out Eric Splitter from the head of the bed,
and he says, oh, well, should we kiss or maybe we'll, yeah, maybe we'll kiss.
Hey.
Yeah, you go first.
No, I'll go first.
No, you go for, yeah.
Doran.
I'll go first.
Doran?
I'll go first.
And Mari just reaches out and just shakes Doran's hand and then just walks out.
Good to see you.
Good to see you.
I really go for an apple right now.
Where does the morning light find you, Jack?
I think Jack is out on the balcony.
I'm not sure that he has slept much.
He's sort of been in and out and wandering the house,
been trying to avoid other people for most of the night.
He looks a little haggard.
Kieran looks a little frazzled trying to get him to at least eat something.
And, you know, as soon as he hears other people up,
he might wander down to try and find folks, unless destiny's there in which he will
immediately leave the room for a minute.
Yeah, you make your way into the house where Thalus is busy stirring a gigantic
cauldron of porridge next to Wim, who is standing there looking very studious.
Porridge, good to learn how to make that.
She points into the cauldron and makes like a yes, like a A-O-K sign with her hand.
And she's all about this.
And then she points all along the countertop in the kitchen.
There are toppings for, I guess, all the kids like their porridge kind of a different way.
Build your own porridge bar.
And she's like eating one piece from each bowl.
And like her facial expression changes based on like if it's a nut or a piece of chopped apricot.
Especially when she accidentally picks up a rat dropping.
Right.
Oh, no.
That one wasn't great.
but she like kind of mixes so-so but she's adventurous she tried it
a delicacy to the goblin orphan and then she points at you jack and offers you a bowl
phallis is like oh yeah morning jack you can help yourself if you like sure thank you
yeah uh why you must have got it pretty to get all this together yeah this is more than a
full-time job that's for sure yeah can imagine how busy you guys have been and definitely
in need of every hand you can get.
It's great, though.
I mean, I really love, I love this life.
I'm glad about that.
Yeah.
I think it's important to have something like that and protect it.
Things have been, I don't know what normal is.
I get, things have been feeling okay around here.
I mean, huh, I spent for as long as I can remember,
taking care of aristocracy.
People who can give two shits about me.
I mean, the kids don't really care about me either,
but it's a different kind of not caring.
That makes sense.
Thoughtlessness instead of malice?
Yes, that's exactly it.
I mean, I love them.
So, no, it's been really good,
and I'm learning all the time from Oren.
Yeah.
He knows surprisingly a lot about things.
That guy has his head on straight, for sure.
Oh, yeah.
Sort of. And then he kind of looks at whim to see what she's doing. She's like eating porridge in a corner.
She's sitting up on the countertop over in the corner, just like really busy with the porridge.
And he kind of looks around to make sure there's no one else around. He's like, have you talked to Orrin?
No, I was, I might, do you know where he's at this time of day? I was thinking it'd be good to sit down and have a chat with her.
No, I can never really place where he's at in the house, but is he?
Does he tend to talk to himself a lot?
Um, I mean, he was always one to be singing a tune to himself, but, but not like full-on conversations that I recall from our brief time on the road.
Is that a thing he's doing now?
Yeah, I mean, you just started it in the past little while.
I'm sure he's just, you know, mulling stuff over, especially with B here.
Yeah, a complicated time for everybody.
Maybe I'll go finish my porridge and see if I can find him.
It would be good to touch base, yeah.
Oh, nice seeing you.
Wonderful, yeah.
Enjoy your porridge.
Thank you so much.
And Jack takes a little of all the toppings and away he goes to try and hunt down Oren.
Extra rat droppings.
With a loud thump, you hear the body of Red hit the floor above you, Jack, as you exit the kitchen.
Red passed out last night on the stairs in his little library nook where he sleeps.
And he sort of opens the door.
or like Kevin Calister Christmas morning
looking back
you know to see if anybody is in the room with them
and left and right to see if anyone is out in the hallway
he's got like a fuzzy wump on the side of his head
and his fur's all stuck up and his eyes are a little bleary
and he sort of just y' eyes your big yore
and sees Jack walking up the stairs holding porridge
rough night for you
it wasn't too bad thanks Jack and Red walks up
and takes the bowl of porridge from
You're welcome.
Just right and starts eating it.
Well, there's too, it difficult.
Just, you know, it's like you're sleeping on the road.
And, like, as he's talking, he hands it back to Jack as if they're sharing it.
You know, you're on the road.
You always sleep with one eye open.
You don't have to get into that deep R.E.M.
But, you know, when you're someplace safe, I just, I find I sleep so deeply, you know, just so deeply.
Yeah, Jack takes a spoonful of the porridge and hands the bowl back.
because we're doing this now.
Yeah.
Hopefully, no weird dreams or anything, just like out like a light.
No, haven't had one of those dreams for a little while now.
I don't know if it's a good sign or a bad sign.
But, you know, we are close to Yarda.
It might be time to lay in a visit before we tackled the, you know, fire giants.
Yeah, I think it's sort of on the road anyways.
Anyway, how was your night?
I guess we didn't see you since after dinner.
Well, I hadn't really land on a place to sleep.
the room I was in is occupied or I don't know I haven't gotten there yet and yeah so I just
sort of dozed a little bit in a chair and wander around outside a bit you know it was a rustic
yeah um yeah that was pretty awkward last night at uh at dinner I guess yeah so it's on your
mind definitely a part of it um yeah I really trying to figure what the
heck to say to destiny.
Yeah, well, you know, if you need someone
to bash ideas off of.
I mean, yeah, I think I got that
part straight, but I just
feel so paranoid whenever I'm in this house.
I just, everything about it puts me on edge
and I don't know how much of that
is informing
how I feel or not, and then...
Well, hey! And Reds slaps you on the shoulder really hard.
I got an idea.
Okay. You know, last night I had a conversation
with B, and
you know, she's feeling pretty
out of sorts about how
well and red light kind of
ducked you in her side room looking around
about how this whole whim thing came out
you know obviously I'm not a very
good dad
let alone a good adventuring companion
to some but
anyway I was thinking about
doing something just a little gesture
to make you feel like I
want her to
you know be in my life and then I
do care about her so I was thinking
that today I could like
zip out to Beliard
or something and I wanted to get like a little
magical trinket but I realized Beliard's
half a day away and I would never get there in time
but
if you and I wanted to take a little
shopping trip you could put on one of
those magic circles zip us down to
water deep for a few hours and you can help me
buy something nice for her. That's true
we could be yeah we could do
that. What do you say?
And then you can get out of here clear your mind
walk a little stalls of water deep
you know we can shoot this destiny problem back and forth and I can share some of my issues
with being a parent and you can help me pick out something that would match my eyes of course yeah yeah
I think that's that's a great plan um we should tell oren we're going to do that I just I
Thalas mentioned something about oran talking to himself a lot recently and that again one of those
other things that just makes me nervous because there could be a hundred different explanations to
that and at least some of them are imps and those things freaking
creep me out. Yeah, no, hey, listen, you, you go, and Red Lake takes the last
scoop of porridge. Look, you go find Oren, I'll find you when you find Oren, and I'll refill
our porridge bowl, and then after we talk to him... Yeah, you keep that bowl, and I will go
find Oren, and then we'll meet out front. The bowl, the mutual ball. Oh, and Red
slaps his back pocket. Hey, maybe this will help. He pulls out his paper for the day, which reads...
Red does his best. Oh, I thought maybe you'd have something to do with finding Oren.
No help. At least it wasn't rabbit jerking.
So I felt relief immediately.
But you know what?
With your help, and Red puts his hand on your shoulder,
maybe you can help me do my best today.
At least with B, maybe that's what it means.
I mean, I like that it's affirmative.
It's not that you try your best.
You do your best.
That's great.
That's right.
That's true.
Yeah.
We can do your, let's do your best.
Let's do it.
Let's do, do do do.
I'm going to go get some more of these rat droppings on the porridge.
That's great.
Yeah.
I'll meet you out front in a little bit.
And Red walks downstairs.
Red, you enter the,
the kitchen carrying this empty bowl of porridge to find Thalus and Doran, as well as Wim.
Morning, all, how you doing, Wimmy? How you?
Wim waves at you. And then she points at the porridge, really excited.
So good, Jack and I are sharing this bowl. I'm going to top it back up. Hey, Doren? Red walks over and
nudges Dorn. Dorn's just like just stepped into the kitchen from the outside door.
Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. You look happy. Where did you get up to?
to last night. Happy? I don't feel happy. How did I sleep? I slept alone. That's how I slept. I'm fine.
I'm good. Thanks. How are you? I don't think I asked how you slept. I said, what'd you get up to? But you
slept and alone? Oh, get up to. Oh, I got, I slept. And what did I do last night? Hmm, let me think.
Oh, well, we had dinner and then, uh, Mari went for a walk. And then, and then I went to bed.
Oh, well, just you and Mari went for a walk. Just, that's cool.
Jack, as you're heading through the gallery to the stairs that lead up to the second floor,
Mari walks in through the main entry door.
Oh, hey, Marie.
Oh, hi.
And she's like trying to comb this one knot out of the back of her hair that is just like not.
It's all a mess.
Just one dreadlock right in the back.
How's it going?
Hi, Jack.
You know, it's going.
It's, uh, yeah, it's fine.
Um, you must have been up early going out for a walk or something.
Yeah, I, I, uh, yeah.
I didn't sleep very well.
I woke up early and then just decided to kind of look around the area.
Just go for a little walk, you know, observe nature, druid things.
Sorry to kind of abandon you to the new place and all the new people last night.
Oh, it's fine.
It's fine.
Would you get up to after I left?
Oh, I read a book.
I went for a little walk.
Oh, which book?
Oh, just this book on herbalism that my...
Aunt gave me, and yeah, I just, I don't know, I didn't really see anybody afterwards, so
just been kind of by myself.
Ah, so you and my room for a walk, what did you guys talk about? Anything interesting, anything fun?
No, no, nothing interesting at all, and nothing fun either. No, it was all about, um,
it was all about, um, Doran's, like, looking around in the kitchen. He's like, um, uh,
chicken feet. It was all about chicken feet.
Chicken feet
Yeah
Wow
You know
That's funny
That's a subject
I know quite a bit about
What did you guys talk about
Oh
The talons
Just though
The way the jelly skin is
After it gets braised
Well
Yeah
Put it this way
It's a very tasty
Conversation
I could bet
So you guys talked for a little while
After your walk
And then what
Did you have a drink
Oh
Together?
I guess
No
No, no, no, I, I, did most things last night by myself, other than the walk.
Right, so where'd you end up laying your head down?
Yeah, I, uh, I slept in the woods.
So I had a hell of a time finding an empty room to even sit down in this place with all the kids and all the people.
Where'd you end up sleeping?
Yeah, it was very crowded, so I just, I walked around.
I did see Doran, he was, you know, he was on drunken, drinking, you know, running around.
doing Doran's stuff.
Sounds normal.
Yeah, I just, I, yeah, totally just the same old.
And, yeah, I went, there's the, there's the barn bit.
There's like a little empty spot upstairs, just up there.
Oh, I think that was the one Red assigned Doran last time when he was picking people's rooms in the house.
I heard someone thumping around down there, but I'm sure might have been him.
I don't know, probably.
In the woods, Doran.
You slept right there on the woods.
Woods? That's crazy.
Don't you know how dangerous it is around here?
Yeah.
Surely you must have woken up in the middle of night and gotten somewhere safe, please.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
No, you're right, yeah.
No, I slept in my normal bedroom.
I was all alone, though.
Oh, in the barn?
All alone in my normal bedroom because nobody else was in there, and I didn't see anybody anyways.
Huh.
You know, that's funny.
And Red gets an odd look on his face.
And then he locks eyes at Doren.
That's very funny.
What's, uh, what's so funny, Red?
It's, uh, it's not that funny.
Oh, just the idea of you, sleeping in the barn last night reminds me.
Reminds you, of what, reminds you of something I saw this morning.
What did you see?
A funny picture book of a horse! Let me go get it!
Red, with his full bowl of porridge, runs out of the room and up to the library.
Oh, yeah.
He passes Jack and Murray in the hall, pushing them aside.
I gotta get a funny picture.
A picture of a horse for dawn.
Out of my way.
Okay, at least things are normal.
We're good.
Yeah, you know what?
I'm surprised he is the first screaming child up this morning.
That's the part that really got me.
That makes sense.
Wait, where were you last night?
Honestly, I fucked red.
The logical outcome of this night.
Yeah.
We, I spent most of it in the parlor, in a chair,
and wandered outside.
I just didn't want to run into destiny again
to like kind of had my thoughts together.
Destiny comes for all of us, Red says as he runs past
with the picture.
Back to the horn.
Don't know what that's about,
but I'm sure it's very normal
and has nothing to do
with anything that's happened in the last 24 hours.
Yeah.
But yeah.
Yeah.
What a place, the Hamperat House.
Yeah, this is a weird little space
and it definitely, I don't know,
kind of, it kind of gets to you.
Yeah, you haven't seen Oren around this morning, have you?
No, but if you want some company when trying to find them.
Yeah, let's, I, I wouldn't mind it, actually.
All right.
Two pairs of eyes, somebody a little wiser than me to look around.
I don't remember what he looks like.
So perfect.
The little, the little halfling.
The halfling among children is this.
Marie's got face blindness.
You make your way upstairs and,
And follow the sound of a mandolin to the master bedroom.
The door is closed, but you can hear the faint sound of strumming through it.
And accompanying the strumming, the low voice of Orin Yokovi.
Hmm.
That's a nice little singer.
Yeah, he's very talented.
Jack knocks on the door tentatively.
Just a minute.
You hear rustling from inside.
And then he opens the door.
He's in his, like, PJs.
Does he's a little footy PJs?
He's not a child.
He's bored them from the kids.
Oh, Master Jack.
Oh, so I didn't mean to, I thought you were up.
I heard the singing.
I was just hoping to chat for a bit.
I'm up, yes.
What can I do for you?
I don't know.
Can we come in, or do we?
Sure.
Come find a chair.
I didn't even know where to sit in this place, honestly.
I just feel like a.
I don't feel like it's hard to get comfortable.
There are kids, yes, everywhere, but yes, come in, make yourselves at home.
And he allows you to enter.
It's a little bit messy in here.
There's some clothes on top of like a folding changing screen and some pillows on the floor and stuff.
The bed spread's all rumbled and he kind of like straightens it and then sort of points that you can sit there or there's a chair in the corner.
Yeah.
Mari like surreptitiously like starts mending like tiny holes and stuff that's formed as she's like sitting on a chair like fixing little things.
I guess I just wanted to apologize for Rune and dinner last night or for my part in that anyways.
It's a lot going on around here and I didn't want to make your life harder.
I know you've taken on a lot with with these kids and...
I don't want to make you feel awkward, Jack, but I did involve.
to invite destiny to be here with me.
She responded to an advertisement that I placed looking for someone who'd be willing to come
and serve as caretaker for the kids.
It's a lot of work here for just me and Thalas, and she brought her son Grin, and she's
been a really big help ever since.
No, I totally appreciate that.
Um, and you're, you're, you're very comfortable with big, loud declaration at dinner of how devoted she is to the Lord of Lies and all that kind of stuff.
That's above board.
He sort of drops his eyes away from you.
With respect, Jack.
I appreciate your apology. I do.
But it's not me who needs it.
No, I, I understand.
and I've got a chat with her.
I just wanted to take your temperature on it.
I'm the happiest I've been in weeks.
And just out of, this might come out of nowhere.
This is definitely my own paranoia.
You know what was going on in this house as much as anyone
with the devils and the diabolists who were here before
and the imps that can turn in visit.
and turn into talking animals and stuff.
Like, you haven't seen anything like that.
Nothing weird.
No ghosts haunting you.
Nothing to talk to in the middle of the night
that you don't expect anything.
No, no encounters like that.
Nothing of the sort.
Jack sort of looks at Mari to see if she clocks a lie.
Can I, can I roll on that?
Get her, Mari.
Get her, Mari.
Depends, did you bring dice to this Dungeons and Dragons game?
I have so much.
20 dice
there's
oh
yeah
I
that is a
21
hey
um
seems like
maybe
there's
something
that he's
trying to
keep private
hmm
and Mari
locks eyes
with with
Jack
and gives him
just the
slightest
eyebrow raise
just one just
kind of
shoots up
in her
towards her
hairline
and
you slept with
Dorin
that explains all the beard hair all in your hair
ah it all makes sense now
my insight not so good but my investigation is right up there
i've seen the clues
can jack roll insight on whether or not they fucked
yeah
where is destiny this time of date normally just at a if i was
usually she's a bed until
uh just after sunrise
so she's probably still in her bedroom.
Ah, well, I...
Okay.
Thanks.
I mean, your bedroom.
I'm sorry.
No, it's all good.
Jack, he takes your hand.
If you'd like me to ask her to move.
No, no, no, no.
She's, like, she's working here full-time.
We visit once every couple of months.
There's no reason to do it.
It would be kind of an awkward parallel
to be removed from her home twice because of you.
Feels like a real party foul.
I...
Yeah.
I wouldn't imagine ever asking that.
Where did you two sleep last night?
Did you make yourselves comfortable somewhere?
I found a chair in the parlor and read a book mostly, kind of dozed here and there.
And Mari, did you...
I don't really see why that's important.
Just something...
It's fine. It's fine.
You know what? It's good.
And then she just gets up and she just walks out.
Did I say something wrong?
I don't think so.
