Did you say the nice kill?
An adventurous sort, I see.
Oh, he's killed hundreds of people!
Jeez, red, don't make me sound like such a psychopath.
Did you tip the piano player?
Undown is more our style anyway, eh, wimmy?
I noticed your own prowess out there, Timiel.
The way that you took out two of them at the same time.
One monumental task at a time.
I could go for a brew.
Better not to ask.
Hell yeah!
Well, this looks lovely.
He's the reason that I'm traveling alone now.
Oh.
Well, look, you don't...
I think a- I think a few
a few more drinks are in order.
Welcome back to Dyshame.
This is Season 2, Episode 133, Talking Shop.
MVP, this week is Marvin Tanner.
Marvin has been new to the show
and finds Marvinites.
Oh, Marvin Tanner.
Uh, yeah,
Congrats Marvin Tanner, you're this week's MVP.
All right, should we play some D&D?
Yeah, let's do it.
Woo!
It's raining in dead snows.
having been kicked out of the harvest room by Matild for a barroom brawl
the four of you are out in the rain
how do you kick someone out we're paying customers I mean look this town is a fighting town
the odds of fights happening in the bar is just well it's got to be high odds right
it's literally her one rule no fighting in the bars
she says it almost immediately when anyone walks in I think it's it's posted several
places as well. Yeah, that's true. Actually, she did
say it to us. Yeah. All right, fair
enough. With nods, there's a version of the
sign, like, on the door. Well, to be fair, though,
we didn't start that fight. Yeah, we didn't start the fight,
but we sure as hell finished it.
Yeah, we did. Took that guy out.
Doer and, like, gives a fist bump up
there to Reddit.
Yeah. And then offers it to
Tamil. And
Tameel responds, but she's
giving you another once over
and she says,
you didn't kill that one
that you were fighting
well yeah
did you see him squirm the way he did after I
cut him the first time
he was
quite the amateur
I didn't want to
kill somebody that really didn't know
what they were doing
very merciful
oh yeah
I mean I would have done the same
I didn't know we were
I didn't look
I don't have
have arrows that don't kill people.
I tried it once, but it just ended up being really splintery to people, and they died afterwards.
But you're not upset that I killed that guy, did you?
Are you a pacifist warrior?
Not at all.
I am impressed at your tactical prowess.
Your positioning in that fight was amazing.
Oh!
The way that you took out two of them at the same time.
Oh, thank you.
I just like being on pianos.
Uh, it's, it's typically a good, uh, good place.
Ah, that's not true.
It was tactically smart.
Look, at the, at the end of the day, I really like thinking through battles and stuff like that.
I didn't make it as clear before because, um, other members of the party didn't like when I, when I was tactical too much.
They like to just kind of go and see how it went.
But they're dead now.
Tamil leans close to you, Red.
Did you tip the piano player?
Always, always, always.
Mm-hmm.
That's his pocket.
Tomorrow, tomorrow.
Oh, I noticed your own prowess out there, Timiel.
Yeah!
And don't get me wrong.
Just because I spared that one defenseless little bugger's life,
doesn't mean I wouldn't, you know,
happily take someone out of the knees or the neck or the face.
Oh, he's killed hundreds of people, thousands probably.
Friends and enemies alike.
Excellent.
And then to, like, someone passing by in the street,
nothing to see here.
We're just talking.
Perhaps we should go someplace a little more private.
Just the weird looks we're getting.
Look, we don't know dead snows at all.
We literally just came here a few hours ago.
What else is this place got?
Is there another bar maybe?
Or even where are you staying?
Well, the harvest room here is the most well-known and well-appointed of lodgings
and has the best food, I would say.
But there is a slightly smaller and a little more rundown place.
Just at the edge of town.
Rondown is more our style anyway, eh, Wimmy?
Red Nudges, Wim.
Wim nods.
Yeah, that sounds great.
What's it called?
What's it called to me?
Let's hear it.
Reddard, like, lean closer.
The Rundown.
It's called the Knife's Hilt.
Oh, that's cool.
Perfect.
The Knife's Hilt.
Oh, wow.
Sounds like a dangerous cutthroat place.
I bet they allow fighting, too.
Hmm. Did you say the nice kilt?
Temeel juggles.
They have no
express prohibition against it,
but
probably best not to get tossed out of every place
that has a bed in this town.
A, fair, fair, fair, good, good, good, good, good, good thinking.
Yes, we don't typically make trouble.
Well, um, follow me, I suppose.
Wonderful.
And then she staffs short, wait.
Oh, whatever you do,
don't eat the stew
All right, let's go
Don't eat the stew
What do you think's wrong with the stew red
I
I have to eat that stew
There's nothing I want more than to try that stew
I know you gotta stop me buddy
I don't want to embarrass myself in front of to meal
I totally on my brain
Doren suddenly twisted up with the thought
of trying to stop him from eating the stew
Oh okay
Just do your best
Hey, Tamil, where have you been laying your head at night?
Is it at this nice kilt that we're going to?
Knives held.
I've stayed a few nights there, but I also have been camping outside.
Hey.
When the weather's more forgiving, it's nice to be under the stars.
This is true, yeah.
Ah, Matild said you've been here a few ten days.
So why?
Why have you spent so much time here?
I mean, if you were like us, given the quest for the ordaining,
You know, why have you been hanging out so long?
That's a story that's going to need a few more drinks, I think.
And some stew. Right, okay.
Don't, no, no, you're right. No, no stew.
Damn it, Doran. No, no stew for you.
An adventurous sort, I see.
Well, look, we can tell you our side of it, at least.
We have taken down a few of them already.
We dealt with the hill giants a few months back.
That was with our first companion, Krayloff.
A place called Grud Hog.
and he passed away shortly after
and then we took on the stone giants
and that was with our second companion Mari
They were only a few weeks back now
Up in the Grey Peak Mountains
Near Doran's home
We stopped into his town of Scarborough
To meet his mum and foyle a cousin
Well
Scarborough I love their fare
It's so
Oh you've been there
Once, yes
Lovely music too
Lovely place
Oh interesting
Have you traveled much elsewhere in Fyroon?
I have.
Before I was set up on this particular quest, I was a bit of an adventurer.
Traveled around with some friends and that's where I gathered all those emeralds.
She looks a little self-conscious about that.
So the four of us make our way through the rain down to.
to almost like a warehouse district surrounded by dead end alleys there's a couple people
casting around like they might have a trench coat full of black market wares that they could sell
there's like part of the street outside of this place is strewn with some rubble and then we see
this ramshackle building it's got a single salvaged stone wall from the abbey and then the rest of it
has been all built up around kind of higgledy-piggledy timbers and some bricks and things,
maybe, like, even scavenged from other buildings.
Cool.
And instead of a sign above the door, there's just a knife stuck into the frame of it.
Oh, that's awesome.
Hey, look, a knife's hilt.
Red, like, runs between Wim, who's pointing at the open coat of a guy, like, there's something blue and purple she's about to bind her.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, we're not interested.
No, no, Wim.
It's not the place, not the place.
You never know what you're going to get.
Wimples a sad face at you.
Yeah, come on.
Oh, wow, yeah.
The Knife's Hilt.
I like that.
Oh.
Oh, Knives Hilt.
Ah, clever.
It's pretty good, right?
It's a decent place, especially if you want to lay low for a bit.
Wow.
We probably should after killing someone.
Yeah.
Oh, he had it coming.
Agreed.
He's always in there.
It's true.
He did.
with somebody I definitely would not have held back
on justice, just to tell you there.
Just to be clear.
Doran, don't overcompensate.
We understand. You kill people.
The hundreds.
Ork Splitters's like, you can kill millions.
I just wanted it to be clear that, like,
Doran doesn't have a problem with her killing.
But it's funny that Doran's, like, almost, like,
self-conscious about it. He's, like, talking about it a lot.
Like, because I have done it.
I'm not saying, I'm not trying to prove the fact that I've killed a lot of people.
I guess what I'm saying, Temeal, is,
I don't think it's a problem that you vested that.
guy right through the heart like that.
Well, you and Red Bull.
Oh, the kill was squarely Reds.
Timil walks up to you, Doran, and she puts a hand on your shoulder, and she looks into
your eyes earnestly, and she says, listen, I have a tremendous amount of respect for someone
who can adapt to a battle at hand and to identify that one henchman as inexperienced and
to give them a chance to go off and develop their skills, potentially to come back and
seek some sort of revenge on you.
Frankly, I have a lot of respect
for that kind of fighting.
Well,
you can't tell it, but
Doren's blushing
by way of his bum cheeks.
Mm-hmm.
It's how he does it.
Canonically, that's how Doren blushes.
But you can see there's like
some squirming
and he just manages to squeak out.
Well, thanks.
He's a lot.
coming from such a
obviously experienced
warrior as yourself.
That thing you did
with your staff back there was pretty
incredible. Was that magic
or is that, what do they call it?
Stuff that the gnomes use.
That's sparkly stuff.
A little bit of both, actually.
Shall we?
Gestures in towards the knife's hilt.
Yeah, let's.
I can go for a brew.
Same.
Redd opens the door
and heads.
As you make your way into this tavern, it is clear to you why the price of the drinks and food is so low.
There's barely any decorations on the walls.
The furniture is very sparse.
It's like a low overhead kind of place.
There's like rats as patrons.
They got a tiny little bar down beside the big regular bar.
Okay, keep them out.
So we just feed them.
The accommodations that Tamil was talking about
It's just a separate room off of the bar
With a hearth and some straw beds
Like there's not individual rooms even here
The man behind the bar is polishing a glass
With a dirty rag
Looks almost like he's making the cup dirtier for his attentions
And he nods gruffly at the four of us
As we walk in almost to say like, yeah, whatever
oh wow yeah this place is a dump hey it says loudly walking in but i like it it's fine a comfortable
place to sit if they have one there are a couple of other patrons around you know sitting some of
the tables and booths and things but no one seems to pay you any mind conversely doran's face is glowing well
this looks lovely he's looking at the earth and the and the straw beds uh but yeah as red goes to sit down
He's like, so we did the hill, a stone, and then, well, then the fire giants.
And that was kind of where things took a real tip south.
We approached from the southwest, found it, iron slag is its name.
Oh, I'm quite familiar with iron slag.
Oh.
Whim's eyes go wide.
You're familiar with iron slag.
You've been there?
Unlike you, we, my former party, and I don't have.
much experience with giants and
iron slag was our first
encounter with them
iron slag was your first
encounter with them it was
in retrospect
a little foolish we were
greatly outmatched
and I
not exactly sure what to say
except that I am headed there again
that is where my focus is
directed as I have a score to settle
with Duke Zalto.
Duke Zolto, the head
of the fire giant. You have a score to settle with him
directly?
Yes, he
will.
He's the reason that I'm
traveling alone now.
Oh.
Well, look, you don't...
I think a few more drinks are in order.
I think that Tamil gets up and walks over to the bar
and just kind of like
speaks briefly with this bartender
and just gets a bottle of something
like brown and maybe a little thicker than normal liquor.
Yes.
He tries to offer you some stew as well.
No, I think we're good.
Thank you.
Just the bottle.
While Tamil's away, Red sort of leans across the table to Doran, he's like,
a vagines as well.
Let's not push too much, eh?
Doran definitely has a look of concern,
and he's gone a bit quiet after Timil shared her story
about her companions also dying at.
Iron Slag.
Whim signs to both of you sort of looking over her shoulder to make sure that Tamil's
not coming over just yet.
And she says, it could be important for us to learn about what happened strategically, but
also she seems really upset.
Yeah, yeah.
Let's turn on the old Red's rovers charm, boys.
Red kind of puts his finger to his nose and misses and pokes himself in the eye.
Wim looks it.
Doren.
Doran's looks a bit confused and says
I think she's just buying beer
or something to drink
I'm not sure what you mean by
Oh no no
I'm saying that we want to find out
What Tamil knows
Oh
That could be important
And equally we want to share what we know as well
Hold on she's coming back
She's coming back
But it might be a bit sensitive
Right so
Oh thanks
For you for you
Oh, thank you.
Apologies, they don't really have much in the way of non-alcoholic beverages here.
Whim shrugs and pulls an apple out of her bag.
Right.
She's low maintenance.
I wouldn't trust the water.
Well, yeah, Tamil puts down the bottle and then a mug of the cloudiest water you've ever seen.
Just in case.
Look, you don't have to tell us anything, obviously.
but maybe, well, maybe it would help for you to hear exactly what happened to us at Iron Slag,
and maybe that could make things a leisier.
Wim takes the bottle from you and pours the three of you each a drink and passes it around.
Thank you.
Thanks, Wim.
Thanks, Wimmy.
Maybe this is the perfect opportunity to finish our toast from the harvest place.
To fall in companions. Cheers.
Cheers.
Ah, cheers.
Whim clings her apple.
Um, yeah, we approached iron slag, and, uh, a truth be told, uh, I had scouted a way to get in.
I saw a fire giant approach, and, uh, I have this ability where I can read lips from far away.
And, uh, speak giant.
So I found out that the pass code to enter was by Sator's flame I command need to open or something like that.
So we sort of devised a plan that we could go up there and cast an illusion of a giant.
And with that phrase, we could open the doors.
And, well, it was doubtful to work.
It was doubtful to work, and the illusionist in our party, Jack, was very hesitant that it would.
And I, well, frankly, I twisted his arm to make him do it.
And as the doors opened, a...
beam of light, of energy, of death came cascading down from between the doors, and what we saw
leave iron slag is something that has the capability to end everything.
You can only be speaking of the Colossus.
You saw it too?
You saw it?
Yes.
when my fellows and I were kept captive in Zolto's lair.
Oh, you were kept captive?
Yes, we thought that we could ambush one of the fire giants outside of the forge,
and it was foolhardy.
We were captured quite easily and taken into to see this Duke Zolto,
How did you manage to survive the heat?
If we could figure that out, that that would be half the battle.
I'm not sure I know what you mean.
And Tamil looks confused at that.
It was not especially hot inside.
Oh.
I don't believe that I call it a forge, but there was no fire noticeably lit.
And Doran sort of looks overconfused there.
I wonder if they hadn't lit the forge yet.
Well, that would make sense, yeah.
continue please um i'm afraid i can't give much tactical information only that zolto has a small army of of giants and workers that i believe we're helping him with the colossus and also he keeps with him two hellhounds narthor and zeregore
Hmm, whoa
Fierce and foes
We fought only one hellhound once
And it was quite a deadly beast
I can't imagine
What you and your companions must have gone through
And to be clear
I don't think your plan was foolhardy
In fact, had our illusion not worked
We would have tried the same
So, listen, we're all in the same boat here
We're just trying to do our best to figure out
How to solve this problem
how did you escape
Tamil takes a big
like a big swig
just straight from the bottle
she just grabs the bottle
and takes a huge swig from it
puts it down
Zolto said he would let us
fight for our lives
that if we could defeat
his hounds that he would let us go free
and I
did not feel confident
that my fellows could survive
so I
struck a deal with him.
I said that I would fight.
I would fight for us all.
And if I lost, they could still go free.
But if I won, we would be released and left alone.
But I was not equal to the task of fighting these beasts.
And Zolto was not one to keep his word.
Oh, damn.
Whim signs, that doesn't sound like a good match.
Yeah.
At that, Tamil, you can tell that she's fighting to hold onto her emotions.
You can tell that she's fighting not to kind of break down in that moment.
And she sits back in the chair and she grabs her mug again and is just staring into its bottom.
Look, you were faced with an unimaginable task and uncomparable challenge.
No one, no one would have expected you to walk out of there alive, and you did.
That takes a certain amount of strength, whether you see it now or not.
Tamil, we've only known you a short amount of time, but, I mean, what we saw in that arena,
you know, you have a heart that deserves to be heard, and clearly a head on your shoulders
that I know we could use, frankly.
It's true.
That's very brave of you
To take on that fear that your companions obviously felt
But still doesn't answer my question
How did you manage to escape?
Samil kind of leans forward
But her shoulders are hunched over
She can't make eye contact with any of you at this point
He let me go
He
Let me watch a
he killed my friends
and then he tossed me
out
because he said
I wasn't a threat.
Oh,
damn.
Whim signs,
I think he misjudged you.
I agree.
I think he did.
Tamil sits up,
she kind of like,
she shakes her head a little bit,
she's kind of like shaking her shoulders,
like she's trying to shake
something off of her.
I appreciate your kind words.
However, at this point, I do not need them.
I only need to go back with hopefully allies
who can help me defeat this Duke, Zolto.
Who can help me to ensure that my friend's deaths were not for nothing.
Hey, us too, us too.
Look, we lost someone not 24 hours ago for the same reason.
that thing is indomitable
and we need to do everything we can to stop it
and stop them
Dora like slammed his fist onto the table
inappropriately hard
then we're gonna get Duke Salto
and we're gonna kill him
we're gonna make him suffer
and you know what
we're gonna make them
we're gonna make them pay
we're gonna make them pay for all of these deaths
yeah that's right
and look
the four of us call it circumstance
call it fate
the four of us have found each other
And you, Tameel, were also given this quest.
That can't be ignored.
I mean, look, reasons aside, Zephyrho's on his cloud,
whatever he's smoking, whoever he's talking to,
that's a question for another day.
On this day, I say we agree to work together
until this fire giant problem is solved.
What do you say?
Hmm.
Tameel looks at you for a long moment,
and then she spits.
in her hand and offers it to you.
All right.
Yes.
Red spits in your hand and he takes your hand.
Hell yeah.
Just a firm, a brief look of what the fuck and then just a firm handshake.
Yeah, this will do.
All right.
Doran spits it in his hand and pops it on top of you too.
Whammy licks her hand and just like pass on top.
It puts it on top of us.
Well.
We're going to do this.
Yeah, we are.
Look, it's not going to be easy.
That thing.
is Colossus itself.
It is monumental.
Biggest Ovidoran, because he's a little shorter.
I don't know the first thing about how to stop that thing.
In fact, I don't know a person who knows the first thing about stopping that thing.
The only one we knew died.
From what I could see, it was both magical and mechanical.
I think that there is some work that can be done on it,
but I have no head for clock worker or, you know, the machinery of it.
We did know a man named Elister, who was a gnome and then turned into a Duragar.
I think he went back to Long Saddle.
Oh, yeah.
We could swing by there, but that's quite a travel way.
I'm sure we can find somebody in the meantime, somewhere else.
And that doesn't take away from the question of, you know, if we then change our focus to this Von and Dodd,
then who's going to challenge the reordining of the giants?
And maybe challenging the reordering of the giants
is like cutting the head off the snake.
One monumental task at a time.
That von and dot is out on the field
walking towards some destination.
We need to figure out for certainty
what that destination is.
We assumed it was Citadel Feldbar,
but we don't know that.
I wonder if there's a way
we could, I don't know,
get a fire giant and then tell.
interrogate him, or if there was some person that, I mean, you didn't overhear anything, obviously.
No, why would you?
That would be a fool.
Tamil's brow kind of furrows, and she says, there were, there were non-fire giants, non-salamanders there.
There were people and dwarves, I think.
Like slaves, you mean?
Yeah, they were being put to work.
They were, you know, shoveling coal and doing menial tasks, but they would not have been able to survive if the forge were re-lit, if I'm understanding what you're saying.
There's no way.
They would have been cooked like chicken wings.
Like, those chicken wings over there, actually, those look pretty bad.
Don't eat those either.
No, those, they're not.
They are not from chickens.
Oh.
But I wonder, though, if any of these slaves survived, they may know more.
they would have been around as plans were being discussed.
Maybe they saw something that would help.
I mean, look, even if the fire giants created the Von and Dot entirely themselves,
it would take a great number of people to assemble that thing.
It was massive.
I'm sure a lot of them were probably instrumental.
I mean, God, imagine fire giant trying to get some of those small places that a dwarf could fit.
It just wouldn't work.
Yeah, yeah.
Hey, you might be on to something.
And look, with the heat that was coming from those doors that were open, nothing could have survived in there.
Those slaves surely wouldn't have just stood there or to die.
They would have made a break for the exit, I'm sure of it.
Yeah, you might have something there.
Where would they go?
I mean, they wouldn't head to Citadel Feld bar.
They don't know about it.
It's part of the mountain.
Is there a chance they would have come here?
We stumbled upon this place quite easily.
Hmm
This is the closest settlement
Other than the
The village of slavers
Literally above the iron slag
So probably not there
Yeah
Yeah
Look maybe
There was someone in town
That would have known
About these people passing through
Someone who's got a finger on the pulse
And red kind of gets a smile on his face
Someone who seems to really have their finger on the pulse
That red-haired dwarf from earlier tonight
She seems like she knows all the goings on in dead snows
You mean Carrilla?
That's right
What the announcer lady
Have you spoken with her personally?
Um, we have had words, yes
Oh, oh, you do know her
Well look, maybe we could go to her place
Tonight and see if maybe she's heard rumblings
Of slaves that would have passed through dead snows
I mean, that probably would have been quite recently
But would she really have known all
the comings and goings of dead snows?
She has her ways of discovering things.
She seems to keep her ear to the ground.
Really?
Yeah, I agree.
I mean, she's got to have her ear to the ground.
Look, she's the one who's making all the money
off the fighting rings.
Anyone who comes to town, I'm sure she's trying to twist her arm to get in there.
I mean, it was dumb luck that we didn't fall into those fighting pits, frankly.
The Oren was ready to get some blood on his axe.
You know it.
Yeah, geez, red, don't make me sound like such a psychopath.
Well, it seems as good a plan as any.
Yes, and I would be eager to get back to Iron Slag
and to sort all of this out.
It's still, you'll have to forgive me.
My head still feels like it's reeling,
knowing that there's another group
or potentially many other groups of people
who've been tasked with
taking care of this ordaining
You know, I was thinking about this
And I was thinking that
Maybe Zephyros knew
That there were just some members
of each of the parties that he chose
That would succeed
But he didn't have a way to sort of put them all together
Whim signs
Maybe he was in the wrong time
What do you mean?
Oh, yeah, just like bad timing you mean
She nods.
Yeah. I guess it just was a bad timing that we didn't go and see Severus at the same time, Temeel. I think is what she's saying.
She signs, maybe he came too early.
Maybe. Maybe there's a lot of unknowns. But look, there's two ways to view this. Either there are other people out there that are tasked with this, in which case, great. More people to take down this giant threat, or there aren't.
And I think, unfortunately, we need to function under the assumption that there aren't.
Because if we sit back and let this thing go unchecked, well, there's a lot of people that are going to get hurt.
Yep.
And let me be clear.
I no longer have faith in this call of destiny.
It doesn't matter.
All I know is that there is a threat.
We have information that others do not.
And so in one way or another, we are responsible
for making sure that something happens to negate that threat.
Well, you're goddamn right.
Dorn slams down as empty tankered.
And looks out the window at the front door.
It looks to be later than it is just because of the heavy rain clouds in the sky.
It's kind of dark.
Although the rain has abated somewhat, it's around dinner time.
Hmm.
That's too starting to look awfully.
No, no, Red.
If we have something to do later today, you go.
Let's do this, Gem Star.
Let's find her.
Do you know where she lives?
Yes, I do, as a matter of fact.
The fanciest house in town.
Oh, cool.
Well, look, time is a wasting.
And Red slams back his oily brew and puts the mug down and stands up.
Oh, that's going to put fur on your head.
All right.
Let's do this.
Wim sniffs the empty bottle tentatively like,
what even is this?
Just a slow head shake
from Temeel.
Better not to ask.
She nods.
Oil, I think.
The four of us make our way back
out this disgusting door
into the rain.
The door is disgusting?
All of it is.
It's like grease on the door?
It's like greasy.
Yeah, someone wiped their snotty hand.
Oh.
No, you know what it is?
People make shady deals here,
so there's a lot of people
spitting on their hands and shaking their hair.
The inside of the door.
Pushing it open with the hand.
That's right.
That's awesome.
Like blood spatters.
Technically now you're in agreement with whoever is spit you just touch.
Listen.
Oh no.
But there's an oath that's been sworn.
And yeah.
With that, the four of you head out to look for Carilla Gemstar's house.
All right.
I just want to.

She signs, maybe he came too early.
Oh, shut the fuck, I knew you're going to fucking say that.
The minute is happening.
She's a child.
Alex.
Just a child.
16.
Who we talking about it?
Damn it.
That's right.
I forgot who you said it.
I just heard it.
