I have plenty of jerky.
What jerky?
Hell yeah.
Is there any more? What do you think?
I can build a better fire than you all can.
Sorry, can giants fit inside of this thing.
It must have been a nightmare.
Where were they? How can we get some?
The fire, right.
Please don't touch me.
He means, well.
What did? Can you calculate for that?
No, of course.
Use the skill or the attribute that would be applicable in this situation.
Aha. Strength!
I'm going to do push-ups until I'm going to do push-ups until, like.
and figure.
Welcome back to Day Shame.
This is Season 2, Episode 136, Pitchin.
MVP this week is Ash.
Ash is the Invictus Stream Discord's administrator, and a close and personal friend.
They have single-handedly run InvictusCon this year to a massive 6-10.
Thank you so much, Ash, for everything you do.
This one goes out to you.
We love you, Ash.
All right, shall we do this?
Yeah, let's play some dungiones and draggione.
Ooh, Italian.
Ha, ha, ha.
As you make your way back through the trees to the original campsite,
it is a sorry state of affairs.
Snow that had gathered in the upper branches of a tree
has since fallen under the weight of the melt water
and it completely extinguished this fire.
So there are a couple of people off in the trees
gathering some dead wood that they're trying to drag
back into the clearing so that they can resuscitate the flames.
The one tent that these eight people were going to be sharing
also sort of suffered from the blow of this meltwater snowdrift
and so there are some people who are trying to put that back together
and everyone just looks a little bit, shall we say,
stressed out that you come back in the presence of this mechnome.
Take it easy, everyone. We come bearing friends.
This is our good friend Wadid.
he's simply curious about some stuff, as we are,
but I promise you he's going to help.
Show him what you can do, Widdid.
Wittitt waves his mechanical arm first,
and misinterpreting what you're saying,
opens up his chest and goes,
look, see, I'm a person.
Yes, that too.
But the fire, don't make a nice fire.
Oh, the fire, right, absolutely, yes, the fire.
I can build a better fire than you all can.
And I'm going to do that now.
You are all doing an inferior design by placing the twigs here.
Let me show you.
And then pulls out a blowtorch.
It's clearly cheating.
That's fabulous.
He's not wrong.
I think while he's building the fire in an attempt to kind of offset the,
I think we can call a spade a spade,
somewhat off-putting commentary.
Tamil is going around.
She's casting mending.
She's repairing the tent.
She's looking at any of the equipment that some of the people here have,
and she's just trying to, you know, improve anything and fix anything that she can.
As you're mending one of these escapists' clothing,
it's a half-orc man who seems kind of withdrawn, a little bit pensive.
He speaks to you about the conditions of iron slay.
It was really, it was hard.
I can't imagine.
I was only there for a couple of weeks, relatively recent, in the scheme of things.
I mean, well, Eralm over there, who you were speaking with earlier, he was in Iron Slag for six months.
I can't imagine what that must have been like.
He's talking about his family, you know.
He's got a wife and kids.
Me, I just missed my daughter.
I really want to get home and it's been, it's been really hard.
Anyway, they said that you, you were there too.
I didn't see you.
I was more in the furnace area.
Oh, yes, I wasn't pressed into service there.
I was captive with some friends of mine.
Um, um, but we were kept in a different area.
I'm sorry, man.
It's, that's rough.
I think, no, no matter what, just being in that place.
And he kind of shivers all over at the memory of it.
It's terrible.
I'm so glad to be away.
I mean, if you talk to Sybeth, she'll tell you about our escape, but...
It was, it was looking bad there for a bit.
Um, yes, I, I, I do hope that you, um, reunite with your dog.
I, I know how, how important our pets can be.
Um, but you said, Sybeth.
Yeah, uh, just over there, she's, she's avoiding the gnome.
Oh, he points at a figure who's sort of on the edge of the trees, like she's casting around in the
undergrowth a little bit.
It sounds like all of you have been through quite a bit.
Perhaps a shared meal might, um, I don't know, warm spirits.
You know, we're all really hungry.
We went through dead snows earlier today and they don't give you anything in that town
unless you're willing to fight for it.
We're just, none of us are in the condition.
Love it.
I think that we have some to show.
share. I think that she'll
kind of go to Doran and to
women to red and you know
float the idea of let's
gather everyone around the fire and share
some rations and
and wit it as well. Oh hell's yeah.
I have plenty of jerky.
Yeah, Doran's been helping
to physically put things back in order.
You know, using some traditional methods
to repair some of like the leather
canvas tents and then he
reaches into his bag of holding and retrieves some
old clothing, which isn't a lot, but he passes it around, you know, to those who need a little
bit more. And then hearing Temeel's suggestion, he reaches in, and of course, there's lots of
food, different types of, you know, stuff that they've picked up on the way. Some of it,
unfortunately, has rotted, but some of it is pretty in good conditions still, you know?
There's like a bushel of apples and some carrots and other...
Are these Westbridge apples?
No way.
No, I don't think so.
I think they're not, they're forgetting apples.
I was going to make a joke like, oh, it was the magic apples.
Like, oh, you wish it was the magic apples.
It was the magic apples.
Love it.
I also love the idea of Doran just, like, pulling all this food out,
and then just like a whole rotissory chicken just like it out of a bag.
Well, I got soup in mine, but it's not going to pull very well.
Red is just standing next to Woodard, who's like, tending to.
something and he's just like eating his jerky and looking over him and just asking him really
kind of like bugs bunny ask questions who's like how'd you make that um that arm's pretty cool
every single one i'm just answering with the technical answer and then you just see me like as they
notice people are eating like pull out like i mostly brought cheese and i'm just eating like my
snacks as well cheese is great cheese it holds really well you want a bit of jerky with that
red puts a piece of rabbit jerky on top of your cheese i'll trade you a little bit of my cheese
a little bit of your jerky.
Sure.
Red tries the cheese.
Oh, it's so blue.
You can tell I'm measuring it to make sure the trade's fair, but it's not equal.
Like, apparently I have some value system of jerky to cheese ratio that I'm, like, measuring very carefully with a knife.
Head take as much as you want.
Red light turns away.
Oh, boy.
And he turns to one of the escapists and just, you must have been through it here.
And Red reaches it into his bag and also pulls out like.
a cloak which serves as a blanket, one of the cultist robes that he's had for months,
and he just lays it on the ground and steps on it.
You can use this to warm yourself, and here's another one, and he crouches down.
So the Von and Dodd, did you work on it?
Did you see anyone working on it?
I mean, despite being a gnome, I was never asked to work on.
And he gives Witted a once over.
Never asked to work on the Vonendod.
It's common misconception that all gnomes are mechanically inclined.
Really? All the gnomes we met are.
Oh, not this gnome.
And he stabs a short thumb at his chest.
I'm gin beanie, and I've never touched a cog that I haven't broken.
I think I've drinking you.
I thank you so much for this jerky.
It's really good.
Oh, no worry.
I have infinite supplies of it, have as much as you'd like.
Infinite jerky?
In my mind, I've never cleared it with Joe, but I've always decided that I have like a Haversack, Red's jerky bag,
where I just always reach it and have this canonically, like, infinite jerky.
It's your only downtime thing that you do, apart from Fletch arrows, is you make jerky just relentlessly.
I'm just waiting for the day where Joe's like, no, you don't.
jerky tally.
No.
What jerky, Harle?
What are you even talking about?
Show me on that jeep.
Yeah, actually, that dwarf that your friend there is talking to Sega.
She was working on it.
Doran, you're standing in front of two other dwarves.
They're sort of trying on your old riding cloak and the breaches that you wore in
Gred Hog and like your old.
They're, you know, they fit.
They're both dwarves, right?
So they're, like, sized appropriately.
Yeah, and Doran's sort of also saying some encouraging things like, oh, listen, you'll get back on your feet.
Don't worry about it.
Oh.
Look, here.
And he kind of, along with everybody else, has been given to everybody a few pieces of gold as he goes around.
You know, look, this is all gold.
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Making a rain.
It's going to be a riot over here.
Hey, man, I really appreciate it.
This, uh, it's been.
been an ordeal.
I can't imagine.
I can't imagine what you were through being stuck in that place.
It must have been a nightmare.
I can't imagine.
Sort of looking over his shoulder at Temil,
who unfortunately experienced much of the same.
Yeah, and, you know, Tamil's face registers a lot of compassion for these folks,
but I think that she makes eye contact with Red
and kind of gives a little nod.
A knowing look.
Yeah, like maybe we can, maybe once we're a little more settled
or maybe even now we can start to ask questions, you know, gently.
Red totally understands and goes,
Ladies and gentlemen, I would love your attention for a second, please.
And he stands on like a box next to him.
Me and my good friend Weddette here and my good friend, Tamil,
and my very good friend, Doran would like just ask you a few questions about the
Von and Dawn about, you know, being.
And he looks at Woodid and then looks at Timiel.
escapeists.
We didn't land on a term.
We know that's not right,
but it's more right than what we want to say.
So let's just go with it.
You, and he points to Sega,
you know about the Von and Dodd, right?
She nods at you.
Perfect.
Does anyone else know anything useful
about the Von and Dodd,
iron slag, or perhaps Duke Zolto?
A couple people nod.
Perfect.
With his eyes zoom in on them a little bit,
the goggles just sort of like,
fire a little bit on those specific people.
He's like on the edge of his seat and seems visibly fascinated by how this strategy has paid
off for us very well.
We would love to talk to you over there and just ask you a few very simple questions.
And to put your mind at ease, we want to help, not just you, but all of the citizens of
Féroon that are going to be affected by the terrible, terrible actions of these fire giants.
And this Colossus, we are here to stop it.
Me, my friends, and he gestures to everyone, a part of the reordining.
And there's Reds Rovers, Tamil, you're an official member, but it's just a title, don't worry about it.
Reds Rovers, he points to himself, will stop them.
In the light of this newly built, merrily blazing bonfire with these people,
happily eating the food that you've given them clothed in the warm garments that you've given them
with the repaired tents in the background there's there's overall just a feeling of optimism now of
hope and people nod and you hear like one person starts clapping in the background
please keep going keep going yeah oh oh wow wow the dorn sort of turns to
meal and with a bit of an eye roll he says he means well but it doesn't always have the best tact red this is a
difficult subject for these people they have just escaped they're trying to put their situation behind them
but you have all done such a great job of assisting them this evening make a persuasion check with
advantage for me and let's find out what you are able to glean that is a 21 nice okay i guess
you're able to gleam i'm a talkie clean away very gleaning of you so much cleaning
realizing it'll help you when it started clapping uh once you realize like oh we're doing a thing
this is good okay i'll clap too and then a second later the harbor
joins it as well but it's too loud it's too awkward like that definitely like oh it's weird like
like clank clank blank that's so good very good very good Sega stands up from where she was
seated by the fire she's this young dwarf she's got brown hair and she's got an intelligent
face you know sparkling eyes she doesn't seem to have been dampened by this
recent challenge in her life.
I worked on the Vonneddod.
There are places inside that the giants can't reach.
Their hands are too big for the internal components.
And some of us, those of us with mechanical skills were asked to,
I say asked,
forced to engineer parts of the adamantine structure.
What do you need to know?
Well, first and foremost, how fast is this thing?
I've never seen it in action, but I would wager not fast.
The thing's got to be hundreds of thousands of pounds,
despite its colossal strength.
It's not going to travel very quickly overland,
especially, and she gestures up at the tree that just dropped all of this melt water,
considering the spring thaw that's happening.
If this Colossus encounters a swamp of any depth,
it's going to be even further slowed.
I didn't think about that.
Well, then the next most important question is,
does anybody know its intended destination?
I'm not sure, and then she looks around.
And Jin Beanie speaks up, actually.
Well, I was often overlooked in Iron Slag, being that I was one of the smaller slaves there.
And I'll admit that some of my memories are a little bit hazy.
Honestly, I think, because the heat was so overwhelming.
Honestly, come to think about it, it would have been hard to worry.
work in there at all if we didn't have that, what do they call it?
Looks around to his compatriots.
That elixir that we were given every day.
I think it did something to our brains a little bit, but I do remember Zaltos saying
that they were headed to the far west.
And then the other dwarf, a male who you're speaking with, Doran, his name was Burgess.
Yeah, I
I remember them saying
And then he shakes his head
It was going to be silvery moon
Silvery moon
Yeah
Some of the fire giants were talking about
Being excited to see the elves burn
Oh
Damn
Oh
Silvery mood
That's where I live
Now you mention
the leg articulation joints.
I have questions about exactly
how that works, because you mention the
melt waters starting to possibly
interfere with its traction. I have
questions. Hold on.
If this thing is taking Silvery Moon, don't you
have a connection to that
place? Don't you feel like we need to...
I mean, come on, man.
I will need to find a new workshop, yes.
That is going to be incredibly frustrating.
I think if we move
quickly, based on
how quickly the device is moving,
I should be able to get all by tools and prototypes out of there.
Based on what they said, Wadded,
can you calculate how long this thing could take to get to Silver Remo?
So you notice in his notebook,
he has flipped to a section where it's all just like Adam Cadmon,
like Da Vinci's a man, like diagrams of humanoid machinery
and like the joints especially, like all that kind of stuff
about the physics of building a humanoid robot.
And he is clear like in the leg section,
where he is trying to exactly calculate that.
Based on what the gnomes who, like, were saying they would get in there
and actually engineer stuff, he has so many questions for them.
He's trying to pinpoint how fast this thing would be.
While those calculations are going on,
Tamil looks to red and to Doran.
If it's headed to silvery moon from iron slag,
it will still be coming theoretically within very close proximity to Citadelfelba.
That's right.
Just because its final destination
is Silvery Moon doesn't mean that the Citadel
is safe.
Yeah. Moreover, if
Feldbar, which had already committed to
helping stop this thing, has the
opportunity to meet it
at the gates of Feldbar, it's a much more
defensible place in Silvery Moon. Silver Moon is
just a city. It's an Elvis city as well,
so yes, it's got its walls, but
it'll topple like anything else without a
sizable force. Feldbar would
be the place to properly take this thing
face to face.
Joe, can I ask a question?
The mountains that are in between Iron Slag and Citadel Felbar, are they impassable?
Or could a Colossus theoretically kind of just like make its way directly there?
Reds rovers, such as it was prior to meeting you, traversed the mountain between Citadel Felbar and Iron Slag by traveling through it.
There's a passageway that the Citadel Felbar allowed you to use to get to the other side of the mountain.
quickly. So there could be other such passageways that are unknown to you. It's hard to
predict. Gotcha. Yeah. You're going to have to do some tracking potentially. Yeah. Doran opens up
his own journal and sort of flips through it to one of these mappy pages. And in a similar
vein of what Wittitt was saying, Doran's sort of like, yeah, you know, hey look. And he's sort of
looking over the map
at the area, well, with the spring
melt off, you're certainly going to get
a lot of this rain and this snow coming
off the mountains. And look, if it's got to go
through this passage here, he's pointing
down on the map, then
surely it's going to hit a lot of this
soggy ground. I mean, and then
he sort of looks up at the sky and
looks at the moon and the stars and like
where everything aligns.
You know, we might just get lucky. This thing
might get slowed down. If we're
even lucky here, we might
get it to stop completely right in the fields out front of Citadel Feldbar.
Can you calculate for that?
I want everyone who's trying to estimate this arrival time to use the skill or the attribute
that would be applicable in this situation.
Aha! Strength!
I'm going to do push-ups until I can figure it.
Whether it's your tracking, your survival, your intelligence,
However, you feel like you would be applying yourself to this problem,
feel free to roll on that stat in order to contribute to this check.
Whitted's calculations be investigation?
Yeah, of course.
Don't be using my smarts.
Yes.
What'd you get?
With a natural 18, that is a total of a 27 for Witted.
Hell yeah.
That's my skill.
I got tongue out, and you see, like, I've got.
got the furrowed brow and everything,
and I hate you with the eureka at the end?
Anyone else contributing and how?
Red's out of his depth.
All right.
Yeah, Doren's got like a string,
and he's like, yeah, there's just no way I can calculate.
I don't know how fast it's moving.
Even if I didn't know how sponge of the soil is going to be.
He kind of trails off.
Based on the information that you were able to glean
from the escapists and your own personal,
calculations
witted
you anticipate
that the
Von and Dodd
will make
silvery moon
right around
green grass
that is
approximately
to 10 day
from when
Reds rovers
reached
iron slag to
begin with
or about
18 days from
now
okay 18 days
so you have a little
bit of time
to play with
18 days
I feel like
towards the very end of the math also,
like I was saying something out loud
that, like, Tameel, like, answered the thing
and, like, help me with the calculation.
So I feel like I look over and do notice, like,
you were right there with me.
Like, and I kind of give me just a nod, that's all.
But, like, very much credit where, like,
you were keeping up with my math.
Like, he's very impressed with that.
Yeah.
How many days?
18 by my calculations
and, like, decimal points after that.
18 days.
Based on standard saturation rates.
Okay, okay.
That gives us some time.
Look, look, we need to speak with Citadel Feldbar first and foremost and find out if that thing is passed.
If it hasn't, get their armies ready to intercept.
Then we need to get to Citadel Feldbar in and Ritzler stops.
And he turns to Sega.
How does this thing shut off?
Is there a key or a power source?
I can't answer that.
but there are keys, yes.
Oh, okay.
To get in.
To get in?
Well, yeah.
I mean, the Vonendod itself is like a walking fortress.
What?
Oh.
In order to work on the limbs, the carapace, the visor,
we had to climb staircases inside, traverse rooms.
It's, it's its own building.
God.
The legends are true.
It's so excited.
I flipped to the back and the back is just not even diagrams or like blueprints or details.
It's just like a Vonn and Dodd fan section.
We're like I'm told the idea that there's like hearts all around, a picture of the Vaughn and Daddy.
Not Voting Daddy.
Oh, yeah.
It's holding me in the fan art.
I'm going to get this tattooed when we get back to Sylvie.
You got to go to Yarder for that kind of art.
But I imagine I have a sketching of like an old giant's image of the Vonen Dod from ancient times.
And I'm just like the interior, the legends are true.
So Tameel looks horrified.
Sorry, can giants fit inside of this thing?
No, not.
Oh.
not in so much
then a walking
fortress for
whom I think what they're saying is that
the inside is big enough for us
to walk around and in order to get
inside we need a key
oh the rooms are the
cavities of
the creature there it's
veins
it's organs almost
okay look
the key then that just opens the von and dot
or will it shun it down
I don't know, but I do know that Zaltow has them.
And where's Zalto?
Probably still an iron slag.
Mm, all right.
And Red sort of looks with like a confidence.
His gaze slides across Tamil and then Doren and then lands on Wadid and says,
well then, our plans have changed.
We still need to contact Feldbar and see if they can't make a sizable force to intercept this thing if it gets dead.
That's right.
But I think we need to return.
turn to Iron Slag to defeat Duke Zolto the way you could have, Tamil.
We're going to take these keys and we're going to shut this fucking thing down.
Tamil's face registers the attempt, but I think that there's still something so heavy about
the thought of a rematch, that kind of self-questioning, oh shit, this is going to happen.
Am I even ready for it?
So I think that you see a little bit of self-doubt starting to creep into her, you know, into her face.
I think Doran, he picks up on that and he puts his hand on your shoulder, Tamil.
And he says, and listen, you don't have to be ready right now.
We've got some time.
But if you're anything like I think you are, he sort of looks you dead in the eye.
I think you'll be ready when the time comes.
Timil nods, thank you, Doran.
But please don't touch me.
And, you know, just kind of like...
And Red's gaze falls onto Witted.
What do you think?
Sounds like these keys are essential
to any kind of learning what's going on
with the Voted Dodd and controlling it.
I think we certainly should find those first
and then the Voted Dodd after.
Agreed.
Agreed. And Red puts a hand on your metal shoulder.
He reaches up and he puts his no hand
on your hand on his metal shoulder.
You know, Witted.
You'll also, if you go to Iron Slag, be able to see the machinery used to create the machinery.
Exactly.
And you think, based on the No T. Swindrew, he knows that it'll make sense to, like, look at their blueprints and then go see the voted dot.
Yeah, you know what?
It might even be worthwhile to, uh, to suggest that we even speed up the spring melt.
I mean, hell, what's to stop us for bringing water to the base of the mountains where we expect the iron, this, this iron giant.
to continue to walk.
I mean, why don't we create rivers where there currently aren't any?
As a, as a...
I think Tamil's actually kind of picking up what he's putting down.
Or even, you said you needed to contact those at the Citadel, the Citadel Felt Park.
Could they perhaps soften the ground, as it were?
Yes.
In the path that we know that this thing will be traveling?
Exactly what I'm thinking.
You are picking up exactly what I'm trying to say, Tamil.
That's right.
It was that moment that we just shared.
You know, I feel like we had a connection there for a moment,
but again, just no physical touch.
All right, well, look,
there's one thing that we have to do before all of that,
and Red looks to Doran.
When we were there, the forges were lit,
and it was damn hot.
Yes, so hot that it evaporated all of the water in the quenging pool,
down to the drainage tunnels.
I think Tamil gets kind of a curious look on her face.
Did you say drainage tunnels?
Yes, I think it connects somewhere deep under the mountain.
She gets super quiet.
These elixers, Red says, and points to Jim Bean, was it?
It was.
That's right.
These elixers, where were they?
How can we get some?
And is there any more?
Yeah, that's right.
We were being fed daily, these elixers, in order to help us survive the heat.
I guess through trial and error,
they realize that the slaves aren't going to last too too long
if we didn't have some kind of innate fire resistance.
I heard that they were being delivered
by a tribe of orcs that lived in the nether mountains,
these thousand-fist orcs.
Great, thousand fists.
An orc splitter on your back goes,
You can kill orcs, Dorn?
Never heard of them, darned.
A thousand-fist orcs, are you?
an ancient tribe
that have been around for
centuries. A thousand fists,
all right. Tamil?
Um, I mean, it sounds like our best
shot. Where are they?
Hmm.
Uh, the nether mountains, I believe, are
just to the south here.
All right.
All right, well, then we head there.
We find a way to get some of these elixas
for us.
We take said elixes, up to iron slag.
We enter the fiery
We forge, we defeat Duke Zolto, we get these keys, and we shut down the Von and Dodd.
What do you say?
And Red puts his hand out.
I'm in.
Tamil puts her hand on top of Reds.
I'm in.
And Doran puts his hand on top of Reds and Timiles.
You see a big metal hand move in and kind of awkwardly, not even go on top, which is the obvious choice.
It, like, goes underneath.
There's a crashing sound and whim,
runs through the trees,
crash lands into the middle of whatever's been happening here,
and slams her hand down on top of everyone else.
She's breathing, like, super heavy.
Hey, Wimmy.
Oh, welcome back.
She signs, I was killing spiders.
You did good.
We're heading south.
Pack your things.
As the conversation winds down,
you all share a knowing look
and make your way to the edge of the future.
clearing. I think Temeel pauses, and then she says to the others,
you will go on ahead. I'll catch up in a moment.
Oh, sure. Yeah, yeah. No problem. We'll meet you back at this one's camp.
And then I think she's going to try to find Troucester again.
Absolutely. You find them sitting fireside feeding some sticks into the flames thoughtfully.
Um, Trauster, I, I had a question for you about, you'd mention drainage tunnels at the bottom of the quenching pool.
Oh, yes.
And they run out into the mountain.
I would imagine so.
They're very deep.
