All right. Should we play some D&D? Yeah, let's do it. Woo! of Alhamore. There is these wide sandstone staircases that take us down into the undercroft area. The gray daylight from outside is replaced by golden torchlight and the walls here alternate between cut stone and rough walls where there is like rubble and cave-ins here and there. Largely the floors are

swept clean and hospitable. But here and there you can tell that this is an old place with a lot of history and it hasn't fully been renovated or brought up to code or whatever. You are brought through 15 foot wide hallways. These are the initial places where you had been kept. There are cells with miscreants that you can tell based on their beefy bodies and broad foreheads that they are the brawn and the brains that will be exhibited here in Al-Hamore in the coming

days. There are also some larger animal type pens. One that clearly, until recently held a hydra because of the five different water bowls on the ground. Look at all these beef cakes and water bowls

places are haven. It depends. What's you like? Well, so this is obviously the holding area for our combatants, as you can see. Not much to see here. Where do you get these beasts from, you know? They've got to come from all over.

I mean, certainly you don't just walk them through the streets of dead snows. Ah? Red Winks loudly at Witted. Yes, well, I do have my channels. Like, channels as in, like, you know, water or, you know... There are... Channels of love, Red. Many persons that I employ for many various reasons.

And monster hunters do make a good living. Right, right, right. But all I mean to say is, you know, Tamil's been here a long time. You never saw him walking down a frost alamander down the street. Did you, Tamele? No. They tend to keep them here all in the arena.

What is what I mean? Like, how do you get? a frost salamander from up, you know, up in the frosty hills of somewhere, into the arena while you're not going through the streets. Yes, well, the people who I employ do their job very well. Right, right, right, right. Like, walks in front of her, like, cutting off. But what I'm saying is, clearly, and he's, like, kind of like, looking everyone wide-eyed,

like, come on, like, what we're trying to figure out is, you know, you're not walking them through the streets, so sure you implore people, but they jettison them in through an airship or what? He was, no, no, no, not now. Come on, come on, come on. He climbs back into his suit. It's like, all right, we're going to the teleportation. All right, fantastic. Great news. Sorry, Reggie. She wasn't done talking about this. Tamil is just oddly quiet, and her eyes are not leaving Carilla.

Can Red see this? Is this like an obvious look? I think so. I think especially. to Red, um, who, you know, he's a killer. Oh, yeah. I think that he, I think he knows a vibe, the vibe of, I'm, I have an intent, but I need to keep it hidden for most. Yeah, Red notices a little, like an odd quietness from Temeel and, uh, can I maybe roll insight to see how you're, yeah, I, I won't oppose it. Red just sort of looks at Tameel and gets a vibe. What's the vibe he's getting? It's an intensity. It's a focus. It is a lack of her normal, casual, kind of jokey, joviality.

Yeah, and Red just sort of hangs back next to Tamil a little bit, who's probably weirdly close to Corrilla, and he sort of like tugs your shoulder a little bit, like, hey, hey, hey, hey, all right, you seem very focused in. Are you just really pumped to get the Silvery Moon? Red, I don't think that we can let this woman live. Why? She is exactly what is wrong with this world.

This, not just idleness, not just apathy, but an opportunist who would rather put on devastating shows that mean nothing than defend people, defend lives, use her vast resources to actually make a difference, a positive change. She would have killed us, knowing that we would have killed us, knowing that we, We intended to go and try to stop destruction of an entire city. And for what? Because of feelings got hurt?

Well, Temeel talks. Red's just staring at the back of Carilla's head, like, weirdly contemplative. And he's sort of like, I mean, I... Yeah, I guess I... I don't really have a point to make otherwise, but... Shit, I don't know. to me look what she is now if that's absolute then i agree yeah maybe the world would be better off without him but but we don't know if that's absolute we don't know if that's truly who she is to a

call through and through and well hell if if we don't believe that there's hope for the darkest parts of this world that they can't eventually change or grow then then we're damned before we even start right look if you if you need a moment and red sort of says this even quieter to make sure no one else hears he says i can give you a moment but look before you do anything liquor in the eye and make sure because i've killed enough people that i i truly didn't know know how they would have turned out, how they could have turned out. And maybe I don't regret all of them. But I sure as shit regret some.

But I'll give you your moment. It's for you to decide. And he sort of moves back up between the others. Hmm. I think there's something about the sincerity and solemnity of what Red has said. And that idea of like, are we fixed things or can we all change just given the right whatever? motivation, circumstances, that she is surprised even to find her own conviction wavering in this moment. And I think that she'll look back to Carilla, who maybe is ahead of them a little bit

now. And, you know, she's seeing her. And you said that in her, you know, up on her big grandstand, when she has all of her arcane amplification, she's this huge personality. but maybe now alone underneath the you know like the the fighting ring she sees just this dwarf woman who who knows how she came to be here or why she has done the things she's done to secure this particular position but i think that she is stuck now in this moment of ambivalence red's words have definitely kind of landed heavily i love i love what tamil and red are playing with here. I think it's very exciting. And I'd like to give some inspiration. Do you need inspiration, Timu? I don't have it, but I don't need it. And I feel like Red did a lot of the heavy lifting in that scene. So I think Harlan deserves an inspiration. If anyone has. How about this? I'll hold on to it. And if you or I need it, we'll use it. deeper underneath Alhamore. Her shiny golden suit doll now in the torchlight. And as we pass by rooms, different hallways, and she's sort of murmuring her best efforts at a historical lesson, but nothing terribly interesting comes to pass until she brings us to a large square chamber. I do think when did his cast detect magic just to like better study

like little things around here it doesn't let him see through walls I don't think it's going to make any kind of a difference in any situation but magical stuff he'll be like scanning it like the data of like the magic you're like oh that's how that works okay cool.

You should say magic? I mean you definitely notice that some of these like prison bars and locks are magically imbued in order to better contain their monstrous occupations. That would be the great irony, all of this. And Krill's actually like, you know, I kept sending you signals the whole time. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's like, what? That's the killer. I picked those yeties just for you. I knew you dreamed about Salomon. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

So we eventually come to this large square stone chamber. It's about 60 feet across, and there are these. pillars in all four corners and the entire room is inscribed with these arcane runes and they are carved to appear like they're being dragged into some central gravity in the middle of the room. They're all kind of funneling towards the middle of the floor here and in the center of the floor, there are these circular inscriptions. There doesn't appear to be any kind of hole or drain, but everything that's written on the walls, the ceiling, all of it seems to be just pulled towards this middle area. Pretty cool. Lit candles gutter with the movement of the six

of us as we enter this room and it's like casting shadows everywhere. This is quaint. Just keep all these candles lit here, eh? Not very safe. Timil will shoot a message to Witted. Do you think you know how to make this work? Witted will absolutely look at this and try to figure out if you can make it work. Would this be an Arcana check? Do you know anything about teleportation?

Ooh, detect thoughts. nice yeah go for it um yeah and i will immediately push deeper into this guy's head so he can get a wisdom save um uh wisdom save dc 16 uh that's a nine cool

initial surface level thoughts you get um not her and then deeper oh okay questions verbally directed the target creature can shape the course of their thoughts so i think that tamil will ask hard have you and carilla been working together long to get her name in his head specifically he says verbally to you yes and then deeper under the current of his thoughts you get a sense of tiredness and he's thinking too long and then you get an image of carilla as a younger woman before the lines under her eyes were that deep and almost a flash of her imperious nature you see this man heart sitting down here similarly to how he is right now and her striding around sort of offering instructions and him with this monotonous monosyllabic answers in deference to her.

Does it seem like it's a deference that he's opted into, that he's giving willingly? Or does this feel like the deference that a prisoner would give to their captor? No, not like a prisoner. Okay. Like someone who's got a boss, they don't like very much. Yeah, okay. I think it shall shoot to everybody in the party, just kind of individually. I'm in this guy's head.

You can ask him questions and I should be able to hear deeper answers if you like. Just in case anybody else has something they want to ask. Ask him if you can fuck off. Um, he, he, he, he, like leave, not, not fuck off and die, but like, ask him if he can leave this place. He learns that you're probing into his mind, doesn't he? He knows. Oh. So he glances up at you, Tamil.

And he just says, why? Red seeing this and hearing the message, it's like, Karela, this corner is especially interesting. What the hell's over here? And he just, like, whisks her away to, like, not impede what's happening over there. Well, red, like any other corner here, cobwebs. No, no, no, no, no. Use your eyes.

I mean, the size of the cobwebs, why these are special spiders, I'm sure. And Tamil will take that opportunity to lean into heart. and we'll answer his why with, I'd just like to keep my eyes and ears open for opportunities to help those that I can. I am here for a long time. I learn all I can of this place. Were you here when it was as it was before?

Sure. Fine. And she heads out. And Red quickly huddles over. to Temeel. What's going on? Hey, Hart. And kind of, Tameel, will bring Wim and Wididid over as well. Widdids do it, done a loop around the circle very casually and then goes with you, yeah. What are you here for?

We, we want to use the teleportation circle. We have some place that we need to be urgently. Can you use... Small words. His face creases in, like, exhaustion. There is danger that we must stop. Smaller. He shakes his head at you.

Death and pain. Yes. That we must stop. Yes. And then she'll kind of gesture to the teleportation circle. Far from here. Ah. And he nods.

But if you start here... And he points at a ruin, he says... I think you might know. What is next? We did... Has obviously been preoccupied with the circle in the beginning of that and then slowly

realizes that he doesn't think the teleportation circle is the most magical thing in this room. He seems to be trying to study this teafling man. What a... You seem to know this circle quite intimately well.

I appreciate your assistance. He zooms in on that one room where he was told to start and presumably like has some idea of like how he can use that and is thank you for your assistance. I, uh, what? Perhaps I am over-curious, but you are not an ordinary T-Flig, are you?

But, you know, it's more of a distraction from him having to look at Corrilla, so he sort of says as he's looking around on the floor, You know, I'm sure that once we leave here, you'll go back to your selfish ways, but...

And then he looks at her. If I can only persuade you to change your ways, you might find that there's a place in this world for those who wish to spread prosperity, love, life. Doran, I'm sorry. Maybe you misunderstand me. I am spreading prosperity. Well, I mean, you're spreading prosperity only through fueling, you know, the darker acts of the world, like death and destruction. Those that are self-serving, you know?

She, like, stops walking down the hall and presses her back up against the wall, like, looks at you kind of coily with her head cocked. Listen, Doran, you're a big, strong dwarf, that shiny axe. Don't you think that there's room in this industry for a power couple? I don't know anything about couplings, but what I do know is there are more things in this world than just winning at bets and, you know, there are things like love for example i mean haven't you ever thought of you know maybe turning from this life of gambling and showmanship to something more simple i don't know maybe a nice little house a couple little dwarven rugrats i was just going to talk about legacy you were i mean i've built an

empire and no one to share it with well neither of us are getting any younger Better get on that right away, I tell you, Carilla. Oh, here it is. And he scoops up the piece of gold off the ground. That's fabulous. See? He wasn't even making it up. You turn your back on her and head back down the hallway.

She just shakes her head. It's right here along. You didn't even see this. It was right in front of you. See how oblivious some people are? He flicks the coin and walks away. Red standing next to Temeel and he's like, Is this guy going to do it or what?

We're burning daylight here. I think Witted might have it. Watching Witted kind of going around and like he's got that like, you know, like, like puzzlers my or that Puzzlers look on his face when he's like locked in. You see like I feel like now's the moment where you see me, even if I'm not quite done done, I suddenly, uh-huh, turned to Duren and everyone, checkbait. Hey, nice. Yeah, here and there, as you are, like, learning and activating the runes, the circle begins to, like, light up, like, a couple of the ruins, like, turn on. Maybe there's, like, a bit of a hum as part of it becomes active, and, like, the outer ring starts to shimmer, and, like, the inner ring begins to glow, and the air starts to, like, sparkle a little bit.

Nice. All right, we did aim this thing to Citadel Feldbao. We've got to get the hell out of here. Absolutely. I think I could, and I start trying to, like, aim the coordinates, essentially. I imagine some arcane way. And Corrilla enters and stands in the doorway. Leaving so soon, I guess.

This is what you wanted all along. Could have just said it. Sorry, honey, but we, oh, we could have just said it? Damn it. All right, well. That's very good. If you ever find yourselves back in Dead Snows, just give me a call and you'll have a spot on the roster.

And Red sort of looks at Temeel out of the corner of his eyes, and he's like, yeah, we sure will. Come on, guys, come on. And he sort of starts moving Wim and Doren to the portal. Doran, you need to be out first if those dwarves get angry. And Witted, you better close it from the other side as well. Come on. On it.

Doreen goes and stands on the platform. A pillar of light just opens up a keyhole behind the five of us. And these insane shadows begin to dance all around the room. All of the ruins are cast into this wild contrast, black and white. And the flames of the candles almost like bend inward towards the gravity of. of this opening, this blazing white portal in the room behind everybody. Wim looks at this portal and then looks at Witted and, like, signs. Frickin A.

Well done, buddy. Hells yeah. All right, Wimmy, you head in right after Doran. The old Tiefling heart gets to his feet unsteadily at the blazing white light and covering his eyes kind of takes refuge from the light of the portal opening around the corner. Doran steps through the portal. And Wim follows suit. Come on, Witted. Let's shut it from the other side.

Yeah. Timil, you take up the rear. Timil nods. And Red walks through the portal. We see a dark chamber in Citadel Feldbar immediately broken by this. shattering white light, this portal just screams open, and four people tumble through it one after the other. It's a sickening, lurching feeling for anyone who's not traveled by portal recently. It's like a mix of really intense jet lag and motion sickness and a hangover all at

once. Oh, gosh. Oh, you think I'd be used to that by now. My struggles to her feet. Come on, everyone. God. And the portal stands there, shimmering open. Just give it a second, wait a, just give it one second. Timil just needed to... She probably has last few comments to make, you know.

I don't know if I could keep it open butch log, or is you coming through soon? Yeah, yeah, just another minute. And just then, you start to see the form of Tameel materializing in the portal, and she is kind of holstering up static. on her back. She doesn't make eye contact with anyone. She just makes it through, takes a moment, kind of slowly glances over her shoulder, takes a deep breath, and then looks to everyone and says, all right, let's go.
