Why is it all the grimy, slimy people come down to the docks?
Neither one of us can swim.
Oh, you think you're bringing in a new age?
What is happening?
Hell yes, Stephen!
Nah, I'm going to stand up here and be awesome.
I don't know. You just focus on you, Red.
Hi, ho, Silva.
We show up late to the party.
Red, you need a help over there?
Oh.
Oh, no, only a better thing.
I am a herald of a new age.
Well, listen, Harold.
Welcome back to Dyshame.
This is Season 2, Episode 196, Caught in the Act.
MVP this week is Blue Jay.
Blue Jay has been listening to Season 2,
and they're live blogging their listen on our Discord.
Thank you so much for listening, Blue Jay.
You are this week's MVP.
Tweet, tweet, Blue Jay.
All right, should we play some D&D?
Yeah, let's do it.
Wahoo!
Woohoo!
You make progress through the besieged city.
protecting civilians and dispatching invaders as you come upon them,
while steadily making progress towards your quarry,
the drow thief with the mythol in her possession.
Occasional updates from Kimara in your ear,
her scrying has tracked the drow to the banks of the Rovin River, the dock ward.
All right, all right, look, this is going to be a tricky fight.
It seems like this drow woman has taken these crystals,
and they're the whole reason this city is falling.
Let's prioritize that.
We find ourselves at the dock again.
Why is it all the grimy, slimy people come down to the docks?
Are you talking about yourself?
Roots of escape?
I suppose, yeah.
That's a good point, Timiel.
It's true, actually, Alex, good poll.
You and Red have been to the dock ward in Silvery Moon,
and you found grimy, slimy people.
Oh, that's true.
Yeah, namely, like, a bunch of people,
smuggling shit.
Yeah. Oh, I remember.
That's what I thought.
What I'll be looking at?
Red takes a look around up ahead.
Yeah, as I said, you're in the dock ward.
You're sort of on like a paved cobblestone
type area where there are some
branching docks reaching out
into the river
just to the south of you.
And then at your back,
like city side,
there are some
like huts and shops and
and like warehouses and
those kinds of buildings. The
docks are littered with
detritus, a wagon,
some crates, an anchor,
that sort of stuff.
And ahead of you, reaching out
into the water, there's like
this outcropping
of rock. It seems like
some kind of
edifice
reaching out into the river.
On the steps,
of this edifice, you see your quarry.
There are four black cloaked drow,
not even really hiding their presence,
striding up the steps of this building
that is reaching out into the river.
Aha.
You're maybe like 40 feet away or so,
maybe 50 feet away at this point,
and they're making their way east.
Aha, grimy people, just as I see.
suspected. There's no use running. There's nowhere else to go. We were sent here to stop you.
Return what you stole. And this doesn't have to get bloody. Doran continues to walk and approach
in a very confrontational manner. Red, your voice echoes through the dock ward. And we hear
almost in response to your assertion, like the roars of distant giants and like explosions and
lightning, the sound of like a magical combat happening just a few blocks away. But the drow
don't respond to you. The woman continues walking up the steps of this building and she doesn't
turn around. Hey, I'm talking to you. And Red draws his bow, but he doesn't fire. Her three
accompanying guards turn to face you as she continues walking.
forward and they draw their weapons.
I said stop! And red fires. A warning shot at the drought.
Okay.
Ooh, like right in front of her feet?
Yeah, right in front of her feet.
Yeah, the arrow skids past her on the pavement and clatters to a stop just in front of her.
And she turns around and she looks harshly across the docks at you.
Return what you took, or we will lay you out.
Who are you to think that you can command me to do anything?
We're Red's Rovers, baby, and I'm Red.
And I am a Harold of a new age.
Well, listen, Harold.
here for that thing that you've got and we're not leaving without it.
Doran haf's axe.
Look around you.
The damage is done.
The city is falling.
Whether you'd retake the mythel or not,
Zalto will soon be inside these gates.
And you will beg for death.
I think Tamil is going to kind of like stay quiet and signal to red that, um,
him taking focus and attention would actually be strategically advantageous at this point.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. You give me the knowing look and I keep it kind of, oh, you think you're bringing in a new age?
All I see is a washed up drow. Years of thieving under your belt thought you could slip away.
Look at us. We show up late to the party. And we're standing here telling you to stay put.
Like a good little dog.
And as Red Talks, he sort of walks out wide a little bit, getting space from the others.
If you'll allow this, Joe, Timmil will kind of drop back behind any kind of cover, any like hay barrels or any kind of cargo that's on the dock here.
And then I would love her to dimension door behind the drow.
Ooh.
Like maybe behind one of the statues and then kind of stealth, stealth up behind her.
Oh, yes.
As Red draws the focus of the drow, addressing them and sort of moving a little bit far from where you are standing,
you make yourself a little bit scarce behind some shrubbery, some barrels, and then dimensioned door out to the east on the far side of where the drow have gathered,
sort of in the direction that they're moving, but not currently moving right now.
With your new vantage point as you apparate onto this new building, you see that it's like a pump station, sort of.
There's like a couple of different layers of stone building.
There's some pipes and steam and shit happening off like farther east of you.
A couple of stone steps lead up into like a second platform.
form sort of to the rear of you and you're able to make yourself mostly hidden behind like a tall
stone pillar that's wrapped with chains. Why don't you make a stealth check for me, please?
Happy to. That is a 23. Red, maybe you hear just like the slightest like shimmer of magic as
Timil moves and you know that she has put herself in position.
Yeah. I think I see the light sort of dimly behind them just glow a little bit, because it's silent, obviously.
Yeah, look, I know your type. This ain't your fight. You're just being paid. You're a murk. Like us, more or less. Tell me I'm wrong.
Tell me that you aren't just trying to get out of here with those to sell them to the highest bidder.
That Zolto handed you a fat sack of gold. He's not the only one.
Ah, double dealing, eh?
I wouldn't presume to know anything about the likes of you,
but I doubt you are half as cunning.
Now, if you excuse me...
Hold on.
And her companions take another couple of steps closer to you,
getting like within maybe 15 feet of where Doran is.
Can I do another stealth role to get closer to the drow?
Sure, yeah.
You want to like creep around the side of the column?
Yes, right behind her, basically.
Okay, that is only a 19.
I mean, it's a 19.
Zalto and who?
Who's the other one that paid you?
I mean, kind of odd.
Seems like the giants are the ones looking to take over the city.
Who the hell else would benefit from this?
And there's an ounce of genuine curiosity beneath Red.
Look, either you're going to slip out of here and never see me again,
or your goons here are going to dispatch me.
Either way, ain't going to be any issue telling me, is it?
Plus, you don't even really know who you're dealing.
with. Don't help me, don't help me. You can roll persuasion with disadvantage.
15.
My client would not appreciate being named, but suffice it to say, she comes from another place.
Now, if you excuse me.
I feel like at that, red's like a little bit frazzled.
Sorry, what? Like, he stumbles over his words.
Yeah.
Hold on.
She turns around and almost walks straight into Tamil.
Sorry, my darling.
What?
Everybody roll initiative.
I pre-rolled for Wim, she got a five, unfortunately.
Mimi.
Doren, what do you got?
Dorn also got a five with his initiative.
Do you want to go before or after Wimmy?
No, I don't go a lot before.
Cool.
Tamil?
A saucy 17.
Red?
13.
Plan-wise, what were you?
you thinking,
Timia?
Were you...
The plan that I had
is already moot.
I was going to try to
stealth or a slight of
hand the thing
right out of her pockets
or whatever,
but we are beyond that moment.
So...
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
She basically turns around
as you're reaching out
for her pocket
and she just about slams
right into you.
At this point,
as the standoff is happening,
Red and Doran
see an urn begin to shake.
What is happening?
After a laborer
second of back and forth, it falls over and then slides along the ground as if sentient
and then lifts up into the air. It floats there for a moment and then a shape materializes
from out of invisibility. It is your friend, Witted.
Hey!
It tilt the odds a little bit more in our favor. And he gets ready to fire the gun directly.
at the drow woman.
Yeah.
Cool.
Love it.
This would be a dexterity saving throw for the drow woman,
and I'm kind of hoping she might have disadvantaged since I was invisible, but...
14?
17 is the number eating she needed to get.
She turns her head in confusion, hearing this new voice apparate out of nowhere,
and the pot catches her in the side of the face.
Porcelain just explodes.
and she takes...
14 points of damage.
14 pot damage.
Hot damage.
Fabulous.
And Witted deals double pot damage.
No, I'm just kidding.
Witted signals to Temeel, but then turns to red
and says, saw you guys breaking off from the main battle.
The Vodin Dodd's busy right now, but I couldn't leave you guys behind.
Witted.
And he seems to be.
like he's out of breath, almost like he really exerted himself getting here.
Oh, right.
Hells, yeah, buddy. What took you so long?
Now your turn to, Emile?
As the pot comes flying in and she begins to kind of piece the events together,
I think that just a big smile spreads across her face.
And then as it catches this drow woman in the head,
I think that she is just going to form tackle her and try to make sure that she cannot run away.
Cool.
So I'm just going to grapple the shit out of her.
How fucking funny would it be to Dimension Dorr and you out into like the middle of the bay?
The water.
Just you're like, I can't swim.
Yeah, I was going to say, hope you can swim, bitch.
Neither one of us can swim.
You were a sailor.
I'm a sailor, yeah.
Surely it says.
I just shoot with arrows in the water.
Yeah, so I'm going to make an athletics check, I believe, to make this a grapple.
Yes.
Yes.
Okay, that is a seven.
Another 14.
Oh.
Nice.
Yeah, so you are in control of this situation.
I would just like to take her to the ground and sit on her.
Nice.
Boof.
Okay, I love that.
Punching her.
I feel like the two of us like roll down the steps some.
Yeah.
Like you tackle her with such force that she goes over backward and the two of you roll down the stairs and end up like, you know,
Lion King?
where Nal is like,
Pinge,
like that.
Okay, great.
It's so weirdly hot.
Yes.
She was like, oh, sorry, love.
Just can't let you go.
Romantic flirtation.
A ship in the harbor.
So Temeel's sitting on top of her,
and then to end my turn,
Timmel will look over at red,
and she'll say, you know what to do,
Battle Buddy, and I'll give him Bartick inspiration.
Hell's yeah, battle buddy.
I love that.
it.
Red, it's your turn.
Red runs forward 10 feet and hops up onto a nearby cart, gaining a little bit of advantage
in height as he lines up two of these drow and fires a piercing arrow.
It goes in a straight line and passes through each object.
Every creature in that line must make a dexterity saving throw.
On a fail, they take my damage plus an extra 1D6.
Cool, dexterity saving throws, activate.
For both of them.
Critical fail for the first one that's...
Yeah, rolled a Nat one, and then the second one rolled 24.
Yeah, that's saved.
So...
Silver Barbes.
Wow.
Wow.
I'll use my reaction.
She'll just shout out again, battle buddies.
It's good.
Just at the last minute.
I re-roll that deck save, and it's a nine.
Get fuck.
Nice.
It fails.
Did you whisper, get fucked?
Get fucked.
Yeah, so we have two failed dexterity saves.
Oh, no, sorry, could that be my slippery barbs?
Oh, yeah, please.
So as she sees the arrow flying towards this other drought, it looks like it's about to miss,
and she'll just whisper out, get fucked, and yell you silver barbs.
Fabulous.
They both take 22 damage.
Oofa dofa
Oofa dofa
The hefty
And then for my second attack
I'll hit the one in the back
The one farther from Dorn
That's 22 to hit
Yes
25 damage
Nice done
Wow
Yeah the arrow makes a hole
Through his friend
And then hits him
And then another arrow comes around
It hits him
He's still standing
But not loving you personally red
Suck it Drow
Are you moving anymore?
Are you done?
Nah, I'm going to stand up here and be awesome.
Fabulous.
I'm going to get one of those Michael Bay shots with a camera circles around me and like, you know, from the low angle.
The wind blowing through your fur.
You know.
It's, it looks great and everyone is impressed by that.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
Next up, the drow ladies turn.
Tamil, you are perched atop this thief, mage,
and she looks up at you and arches a cool eyebrow.
And then the body underneath you begins to change.
And you are lifted into the air as the form of the drow woman transforms.
her clothing sinks down into her skin
which hardens and ripples
underneath you as you
find yourself perched atop a giant spider
so while I respect
that it doesn't sound like you're describing she got into a giant robot
spider this is still dangerously close
to Kaiju territory for
with it.
We don't have a second larger form.
I don't like this.
This is competition here.
I have a problem with this.
So that was her
bonus action.
Jesus. Her action,
she is going to
spit webs at you,
Temeel.
Okay.
Spit webs!
I'm going to make
a ranged weapon attack.
Fuck!
God.
fucking, uh, natural one.
Yeah.
Um, maybe it's because we're so close.
Like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
As she changes to meal, like, kind of hunkers down and, like, hugs the thorax of this thing.
So she's basically right up against her.
Probably a tough target to hit.
Yeah.
The web spitter is like pulsing and spitting out webs and it's just missing you, missing you.
And she's like trying to scrabble around with her legs and can't quite gain a purchase on you.
This is going to weird out some of our audience for sure.
Well, listen, spiders are a real thing and giant spiders aren't, but...
I love it, I'm just saying.
Did all of her stuff transform as well?
Yes.
She's wearing like a jacket?
All of her clothing and everything she's holding are now part of her substance.
Smart.
Oh, I didn't know that.
Here's the thing.
The grapple, I think, Temeel, you can stay in contact with the sports.
spider mage, but you're going to be riding her.
Like, you know what I mean?
You're not controlling where she moves, but you can stay.
Only a better thing.
You know what?
Actually, if you would like to roll maybe an athletics or an acrobatics check right now,
let's see if you can retain hold of this drow as she transforms.
And then you can sort of cling to her tick-like as she moves.
I rolled a 19 for a 29?
Yeah, fabulous.
Ride him cowboy.
Hi-ho, Silver.
She yells out of nowhere,
because that reference doesn't mean anything anything.
He ought to me.
Battle buddies!
Having been unable to webb you to the spot,
the spider tries to shrug you off
as she moves up the stairs.
And away from the rest of your companions,
meanwhile, the drow warriors close in around Doran.
The one that had been hit once by Red moves into melee range with you.
Can I use a reaction?
God, I wish you would.
Aha, perfect.
When a creature moves into reach, I'm going to use my brace.
Fabulous.
Mneuver.
Tell me all about it.
Does Anne 18 hit?
It does.
Okay, then it's going to do 19 points of damage.
to this character as he steps into my swiping axe.
So as the warrior moves in towards you,
you have just this, like, practiced reaction.
Yeah, I do like this spin thing.
Yeah.
I'm like, just like real fast.
I come back around.
An orc splitter bites deeply into the flesh of this warrior.
Meanwhile, the short sore that he's carrying seeks to,
define the weakness in your armor with a 13 and a 17 to hit you, I believe you are, it is rebuffed.
It is.
He simply with the short blade, just clang, clang off my armor.
Mm-hmm.
The second warrior closes in on your other side and will also try to kill you.
A pair of 18s, I believe also miss you, Doran.
Yes.
These guys are far too tall for Doran, and they just seem to be hitting all the wrong spots.
They're not used to practicing on statues of this stature.
Well, listen, Drow have a long, long history of facing off against dwarves, but maybe for these two, specifically, it's been a while.
Should not listen to our ancestors.
The final Drow warrior nimbly jumps up on the cart beside you red and takes
aim, swiping at you twice, 10 to hit you.
Miss.
And a 16.
Miss.
All right.
Yeah, red.
I feel like, like, maybe he makes the first swipe as he approaches.
He, like, swipes on my feet, and I jump up.
And he jumps up, and I duck.
That's fun.
And I'm like, ha-ha!
I'm God.
Very Errol Flynn.
Yes.
You're God.
Absolutely.
And for Stephen's turn, I'm going to drop him actually below.
I want to put him last in initiative after Wim.
Cool.
Uh, Doran, it's your turn.
Red, you need a help over there?
I'm okay, buddy.
You take out that one to the north.
Oh, right.
And Doran sort of looks and he's going to use his...
We need help.
He's going to use his great weapons master feat to attack the one on the north side.
Yeah.
That's going to be an 18 to hit.
You know what?
I think I'm going to use a reaction and parry your blow.
Oh.
How dare you?
So that does not hit.
It does not.
No, he brings up his sword and just like holds it against the, the haft of your axe.
Then perhaps I'll use another one of my superiority dies as a disarming blow and play it into my character.
A 17 to hit?
That misses.
Ooh.
Flickety flack.
Don't talk back.
Sorry, Doran.
That's okay.
I understand.
I understand.
I think maybe the other warrior that's up in your space is diverting your attention.
And with two of them on you at once, it's too much to manage.
It's okay.
He's optimistic and still keeping his humor about him.
He says, well, looks like we're all battling kind of off right now.
Do you need help, Doran?
Red shouts.
I don't know.
You just focus on you, Red.
It's Wim's turn.
Wim looks around and.
the only person in any proximity to her at all is Stephen.
Stephen's right behind her.
And she looks at Doran fighting the two drow,
and she sees red jumping over,
the sword licking out at him,
and Tamil riding a giant spider off into the sunset,
and witted, like, floating in Bessie.
and she turns to Stephen, and she shrugs.
Stephen shrugs back.
And she reaches out a hand and pets Stephen on the head.
And Stephen, you are imbued with magical energy.
Stephen, you gain the ability to breathe.
Probably not fire, right?
What do we want?
Do we want acid?
Goat fire?
Lightning.
I mean,
goat fire or goat acid?
Cous good.
Poison gas is I think an option and cold.
Yeah.
I mean, it's acid, cold, fire, lightning, or poison.
What's the best thing?
Stephen gains the ability to breathe cold in a, so a 15-foot cone breath weapon.
Yes.
But he burps it.
Yeah, exactly, exactly.
A little steam comes out of his nostrils, like little frosty.
She's just so dumb doing it too
Like all bug-eyed like
She's gonna cast it as a third level spell
And that gives him
4D6 cold damage
Oh, Steve
It's like a malfunction AC unit
Yeah
I see up in all the wrong places
15 foot cone
4D6 cold damage
And then she is going to run along the side of these docks and sort of take shelter behind a giant anchor.
And that's when's turn.
Stephen.
Stephen stands dumbly licking himself.
He does nothing.
He licks the snot from his own nose.
His tongue freezes to it.
And with a stupid face, he sort of cocks his head to one side and then saunteres forward.
30 feet and gets himself in such a position that he can get the edge of his cone to touch the two drow that are currently attacking Doren.
And he, in a icy burt, he unleashes a blast of cold that freezes the two drow in front.
What did you say it was 4D?
4D6.
I've never rolled that many dice.
Steve says time for you to chill out
What killed the dinosaurs
That is 15 cold damage to the two
Drow
Let's go
The drought to the north of Doren
The one that Doren had attacked and was parrying
Rhyming rhymes over with ice
And clutches a hand to his chest
and falls over dead.
Hell yes, Stephen.
Nice, Stephen.
Looks like that new chow I fed you
is doing good, good work.
Oh, that looked chilly.
Gave him an ice cream cone last night.
The other drow
takes all that damage
and does not like it one bit
but does not die.
All right.
Top of the round.
Get it, Witted.
Actually, it's not Witted's turn.
God and damn it.
That's not good, everyone.
Witted has like been hanging out just kind of in the north area of this dock,
sort of just taking his time, taking it easy,
coming around the corner from some other area of the city
and moving casually towards you until he spots what's going on
and then breaking out into a run.
A fire salamander.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh.
Ugh.
Uh-oh.
Uh-oh.
You know, I can't help but feel like reading the names of the Patreon supporters is becoming

Tammal, you say cool, a line.
Oh, God.
I almost.
Timil will look over at red and she'll say,
you know what to do, buddy, battle buddy, and I'll give him bark inspiration.
That was the dumbest way to do that, but whatever.
I love it.
Yeah, inspiration.
I love it.
No, I loved it.
Baddle buddy.
Silver Barbes.
Wow.
Wow.
Wow.
I'll use my reaction.
Tamil just starts like.
Like, again, she starts to, no, the whispers for the fucking hex, shit.
I think, okay, she'll just shout out again, battle buddies.
I hate this.
Yes, it's good.
Just at the last minute.
The second warrior closes in on your other side and will also try to.
