Starting point is 00:00:00 Coming up on diggits, I cannot believe that you've got to serve with Marco and have taken that. What are the chances of that? I just thought the difference between a man like Disco Steve who's just saying, oh, I'm scared of the pain. Yeah. And as a woman, you have so many procedures and so many things happen to you that really hurt, but it's just part of being a woman. What would you wear to a fat boy slim concert?
Starting point is 00:00:21 Well, I'd probably wear a really garish Hawaiian shirt, probably. Oh, God. All of that right after this. Access Storage presents ski cross racer, Reese Howden. Hi, my name is Reese Howden. I'm a member of the Canadian ski cross team, and we'll be going to the 2026 Malato-Quartina Olympics. Being able to represent a country that has done everything to support my dreams is unreal.
Starting point is 00:00:51 Being able to stand on the podium and hear the national anthem and hold the flag, I don't take it for granted at all. I'm really happy to represent Canada at the Olympics. Let's go Canada. Access Storage, proud partner of Team Canada. Canada. Pamper that special someone at Elmwood Spa, Toronto's leading day spa. For 40 years, Elmwood Spa has been the leading destination for a relaxing and pampering experience. Let them enjoy soothing water therapies, a gourmet lunch, while wrapped in a cozy robe, or a couple's massage in a private suite with a fireplace.
Starting point is 00:01:28 Order your gift cards by phone or online at elmwoodspa.com. That's Elmwood Spa.com. That's Elmwood Spa. com. Hi, Joe. Hey, how you doing? Happy week. Happy week to you. Can I just say, Joe, I've always so envied the fact that you can wear the dungarees. I say the dungarees as a whole look.
Starting point is 00:01:48 Because it's that time of year and there are not many new collections out yet. And also, I've not had time to go shopping. I can't remember the last time I went to a shop. It's crazy. So I just thought, I love my dungarees. I want to be really comfortable doing the podcast. And that's why I'm wearing the dungarees today. So dungarees wouldn't be comfortable for me because I've got a freaky long body so they would go right on my area.
Starting point is 00:02:09 Fashion-wise, it's a funny time, isn't it? Because we're kind of so overwearing winter clothes and wanting to wear spring clothes, but actually it's still freezing. And also the shops are going through that weird thing. Ended the sales. Beginning of, you know, so there's not really much to inspire us at the moment. Hence, I'm back in a tracksuit and in a sweatshirt. And I've destroyed all my knitwear. because I've worn it so much because it's been so cold
Starting point is 00:02:35 that I need one of those debobblers. Oh, yeah. I need to shave my knitwear. What are we talking about this morning? I dig it. We have some questions from our lovely diggers who've been in touch with us, yeah. So this one is from Fay.
Starting point is 00:02:49 And she said, I was hoping to get some advice, please. Very polite, Faye, thank you. I'm starting my 50th birthday celebrations in a week by heading to a fat boy slim gig. While I'm really looking forward to it, I'm already stressing about what to wear. As I get older, I've become a bit more confident about what to wear with an attitude of I shall just wear what I like and feel comfortable in it.
Starting point is 00:03:07 However, this event is really troubling me. I really don't want to look out of place, she says, and I'd be a bit of the dick, quite frankly, what would you wear with very comfortable dancing shoes? Jeans, sparkles, a jumpsuit. I'd love your thoughts. I'm definitely not as stylish as you both, but I'm up for trying. Listen, look at the pair of us. You are absolutely as stylish as us. We're all about the comfort of Faye. Seriously, Faye, happy birthday, you youngster. You're only 50. I remember those days. But do you know what, Faye, you're asking the wrong person because I don't ever go out.
Starting point is 00:03:41 So, Joe, you're out because you DJ for everyone who's come out and they all dance around. What would you wear to a fat boy slim concert? Well, I'd probably wear a really garish Hawaiian shirt probably. Oh, God. Just imagine Norman DJing just looking out at a sea of Hawaiian shirts. I bet it does actually quite often. I bet.
Starting point is 00:04:01 Well, for comfort. You've got to go for comfort because I, I these days, if I was going out, I wore a high heel the other day to do some filming. And I was in the high heel for about six hours. And my feet afterwards, I was like, no, I am not doing that again. So I would, if you're going to, would you wear a trainer and then dress up your body a bit? I would absolutely. So when I do my 90s anthems, I look out and there is just a sea of beautiful people.
Starting point is 00:04:28 A lot of them are female and a lot of them are covered in sequence. And it's just like, it's like, look at a shimmery sea that everyone. Everyone's just like shimmering all over the place and it's so nice and people have made the effort. And they're all wearing like either dresses and I'm guessing trainers on the feet because the way they're dancing when we're doing the shows and they're jumping up and down. You've got to be wearing trainers. Yeah. So I think maybe I think, you know, you've got tracksuit bottoms on at the moment. And when I go on stage and do my gigs, I wear track suit bottoms because it just allows me the freedom to dance and to move.
Starting point is 00:04:56 And at the end of the day, that's the most important thing. I feel like we are complete charlatans because neither of us ever go out. I'm always doing a radio show in the evenings or else I'm sat on my sofa or doing a gig. And I'm really struggling to know what to wear on stage. And I keep like going through Googling DJs and what do they wear. And I'm really quite clueless.
Starting point is 00:05:15 I used to wear a little slip dress. But then the straps broke because I was jumping up and down so much. Under a lot of strain, aren't they? Arms in the air. Arms in the air. Well, this is good for Fay to know, slip dresses, if you've got your arms in the air quite a lot. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:27 I suppose you want a bit of something that's jeweled or bejazzled or a bit secretly to make you feel like you've dressed up to go out. Yeah, I guess. And if it's your birthday as well, and if it's a big occasion. But I think comfort is the most important thing. So either jeans or tracksuit bottoms and then just some fabulous top to go with it and then some trainers. I absolutely,
Starting point is 00:05:44 if I was going to a Fat Boy Slim gig, that would be what I would wear. Because you're not going out for dinner, you're not going to the Ritz or anywhere really fancy. And you want to jump around. And there was lots and lots of really cool t-shirts. You know, there are so many different t-shirts that are out there at the moment. So maybe a cool t-shirt. I think, if you think
Starting point is 00:06:00 of Joe at Clastonbury, Faye, that's how I'd want to dress possibly to go to a gig. I'd go Joe Wiley waist upwards. I think below I would definitely have my legs in comfortable trousers, i.e. Truxie bottoms or jeans. Yes. But you don't want tight cheese because they'll get too hot. So there you go.
Starting point is 00:06:19 Have we been any help, Faye? Possibly. I think we haven't at all Faye. I'm really sorry. I feel like we've completely failed you. But it's been winter, hasn't it? And we've all been underground and it's been cold. So we're all used to being cozy, staying in.
Starting point is 00:06:32 So, yeah, as the spring is coming, it is time to spread our wings and get dressed up and go dancing. Ask us in a month's time and we'll have a much, much better answer. Don't do fairy wings. That's all I'm, don't do fairy wings. They go in people's eyes. They do. Yeah, they're quite uncomfortable and you'll cause damage to other people. But yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:49 Or you could go like Chapel Rowan at the Grammys and do a nice top attached to your nibble. But you don't want to be surrounded by anybody at all if you're wearing that dress. You do not. If you're loving Digit, please hit follow or subscribe wherever you watch or listen. That way, you get new episodes as soon as they're out. We have a voice note from Lucy. Hi, Lucy. Hi, lovely Joe and Zoe. Love, love your podcasts. And you both too. Wonderful company at the car for me, especially when sometimes I feel like I have so much going on my head and I need to try and switch off.
Starting point is 00:07:25 So you're perfect tonic for that. My dilemma is I'm having my first half term without my two girls, age 14 and 12. And I thought I would go and learn a new skill or go on a retreat, meet like-minded people. As quite frankly, I'm so conditioned to ferrying cooking and breathing my kids that I'm just not sure how to be on my own. So I want to do it with other people. But the thing is, it appears from endless searching that these retreat activities don't happen at half term unless you have children. Well, more often than not, they only happen in term time, which is when I find it really hard because there are so many logistics to sort out if I wanted to go away. and do stuff, such as you know, they're having their clubs or picking up from school and all of that type of thing.
Starting point is 00:08:07 So my question is, does anyone have any recommendations or ideas of what to do? I guess what I'm looking for are courses such as art courses, learning new skill, yoga retreat for the week between the 14th and 20th February, anything to keep me proactive and active and not have to sit in my own mind because I don't think a spa day on my own is going to be very good. But I just can't find anything. So if anyone has any ideas or websites, I've missed, I would love some guidance or thoughts. Thanks very much. Lucy from Sevenoaks. Hi, Lucy from Sevenoaks. Do you know what, Lucy, I've always wanted to go. In fact, I booked it and then I had to cancel it because I couldn't go because something came up at work.
Starting point is 00:08:48 I've always wanted to go to Charlotte Church's retreat. What happens there? It's all in the countryside in Wales and it looks fantastic. And you can do yoga and gong baths and everybody's sharing. and you can go on hikes. There's loads of different types of courses that you could do that. I don't know if it's a bit too last minute,
Starting point is 00:09:07 Lucy, and it might be booked up, but that is one I've always wanted to do. I know a couple of people who've been to Charlotte's place and have really enjoyed it. And you meet all sorts of different people, the dreaming it's called. I absolutely know that feeling
Starting point is 00:09:21 of not wanting to be in your own head. And when you're so used to being used and occupied every second of the day, and you've suddenly got this expansive time, you're like, who am I? What do I do? I don't know how to think. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:09:31 I don't want to think. So you definitely want to be surrounded by people, but doing something fun as well. But I honestly do not know. It's not something I've ever looked into or researched myself. In my dreams, I'd like to go to a healthy juice retreat in Ibha or in Portugal in the sunshine. That would be lovely. Jason Vale.
Starting point is 00:09:49 But then I don't. So you need to go. Jason Vale. Oh, actually, yes, Lucy, what am I saying? I don't know if they'll be booked up. But Jason Vale has several locations. and I've been to Jason's retreats so many times trying to talk Joe into going to his new one
Starting point is 00:10:06 but that doesn't open until May and I think May is sold out so June time Joe we should go because his new place has got so much sport it is made for you and disco and your family you will love it. A fantastic place I've just remembered now called Another Place which is in the Lake District where you can go and you can do
Starting point is 00:10:23 swimming at midnight obviously this is not going to be your thing either but you can go and do you can swim in the in Oldswater and you can jump in waterfalls, but also it's got a spa and it's a really lovely hotel with amazing food and I've been now a few times with my family and it's just great.
Starting point is 00:10:39 So Lucy, even if you can't get in now for future reference, another place is really, really wonderful. They're not paying me to say this. I've been there and I think it's amazing. Oh, how exciting. Or Lucy, you could do something like Joe that you did with disco
Starting point is 00:10:52 where you went to Snowdonia. Oh, yeah. You could stay in a little B&B or a little hotel, Lucy. And then you could get yourself on a hike up snowdonia? Steve, Disco, is in quite a lot of pain with his knees when we go for our runs, because we're training at the moment. So we keep going for runs. And he just keeps talking about how painful his knees are with every step, how much it hurts. And I keep saying,
Starting point is 00:11:15 have you had your steroid injections? Because that's what he's been told to do. And he just keeps going, no, but it'll really hurt. Do they hurt when you had your shoulders done? Did they hurt? And I'm like, yeah, of course it hurt. But ultimately, it's a good thing to do, because then it'll stop hurting when running. And I just thought the difference between a man like Disco Steve who's just saying, oh, I'm scared of the pain. I don't want to get my knees done. And he will say that. He'll put his hands up and say that's absolutely truth. And as a woman, you have so many procedures and so many things happen to you that really hurt. But it's just part of being a woman and part of life. And you just go, fuck me that hurt. But never mind. And you just get on with life. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:50 It was the contrast, I thought was hilarious. Well, also we have periods, don't we? I think that's a thing. Yeah. From a very young age, we have chronic period pain. and we have that every month. And you sort of get used to that. And then we have smear tests and da-da-da-da. And, you know, it's not all women, but a lot of women are happy to talk about these things. And you can see we'll have these conversations
Starting point is 00:12:12 with each other quite openly. And then men will be like, oh, my God, I can't believe. We're talking about those things. And, oh. I know. It is the fact that we have so much painful stuff going on throughout our lives, whether it's periods or menopause or health checks,
Starting point is 00:12:24 having babies, that you just accept it and you get on with it. And, you know, we're tough. We're tough. We're going to take a quick break. So we were talking about celebrities that you might have seen in bizarre places. And of course, lots of people have seen bizarre celebrities in quite ordinary places. But Becky's been in touch with this particular celebrity spot. and as a photograph, I love it. Hi, Joe and Zoe. Just wanted to share my celebrity encounter with you both.
Starting point is 00:14:12 Back in 2017, whilst Holiday in Cornwall, I was waiting for a surf lesson at Watergate Bay when I clocked a man across the room and thought, why do I know that face? Then the whispering started across the room, and I realised it was only Mark Owen from Take That. Panic hit me instantly, and I silently hoped he wouldn't be in my group
Starting point is 00:14:28 because I'd never surfed before. I literally turned into an anxious, sweaty mess in my wetsuit, which is not a good combo. Typically, Mark did. turn out to be in my group and became my surf buddy for the afternoon. Neither of us had surfed before so that broke the ice. Made a great afternoon robbling around on the boards. It was so surreal, but Mark was a lovely guy and really easy to chat to. Luckily, I have photo proof thanks to my husband, though at the time he wasn't thrilled that someone else kept photo bombing them. He only realised
Starting point is 00:14:55 later that I'd been surfing with a celeb. And people never believe me when I tell the story until I showed the photos. Anyway, thanks ever so much for this amazing podcast. Bye. Oh, Becky, that is so... It's a great picture. If you're listening as basically Becky, can I just say looking super hot in a wetsuit? And she's carrying a blue surfboard and behind her in a matching pink wetsuit
Starting point is 00:15:17 with his knees out is a gorgeous looking. Mark Owen. What a picture. I cannot believe that you got to surf with Mark Owen of take that. And he was in your group. What are the chances of that? And he ended up living in California, didn't he? So he probably was caught the bug
Starting point is 00:15:35 while surfing with you, Becky, and thought, I need to live somewhere warmer, move to California for a bit, and now can surf every day. How brilliant. I just remembered going down a mountain once and Howard Donald snowboarding past me and just going, all right, Joe.
Starting point is 00:15:51 And then meeting me at the bottom of like, oh, what the chances of seeing you here? Howard, Howard from take that, there go. Was he good? He was really good. Yeah, when you think of his dancing, I mean, he's so physical, he'd do backflips and all sorts of things.
Starting point is 00:16:04 And take that. course going to be on tour doing the circus tour again, which is such an amazing tour. So I love those guys. It really is. Last week we spoke about wardrobe malfunctions and Alyssa has sent us a voice note. Hi, Jo and Zoe, it's Alisa from Electric High Apparel. I was just listening to the podcast there and your little section on the wardrobe malfunctions and I thought I would share a story with you that I've been giggling to myself about. So I used to work for Vivian Westwood years ago. and Vivian Westwood clothes are like buttoned up wrong some of them are sort of back to front, tucked in the wrong way
Starting point is 00:16:39 so when I was walking around the streets of Glasgow I would always have people saying to me oh you've done your button wrong or you've missed a button or your skirts on back to front so it was a gorgeous summer's day and I don't have any tights and anything on was wearing this Vivian Westwood skirt and was walking down Vuccanan Street
Starting point is 00:16:53 which is one of the busy streets in Glasgow sat at the top of the road I had someone saying oh excuse me hen your skirt tucked into your knickers and I thought it was just another person telling me because it was vivving westwood. So I said, oh, no, no, it's fine. It's supposed to be like that.
Starting point is 00:17:08 So I walked down and then halfway down the road, someone else comes up and says, excuse me, your skirt's tucked in your knickers, so I laughed again. Oh, yeah, you're not the first person that said that to me. It's supposed to be like that. And then when I got to the bottom, I walked past the shop window,
Starting point is 00:17:20 and I realise that my skirt was actually tucked into my knickers at the back, showing my full arse to the whole of Buchanan Street. Lucky Buchanan Street. Oh, Lisa. Oh, we love you. Lisa, thank you so much for our jumpers, our Harry Stiles jumpers that we wore last week. And they've had a lot of love. And she is one super lass.
Starting point is 00:17:42 But yeah, lucky Buchanan Street, I tell you. Elisa's company is called Electric Eye Apparel. And I've got a now-I-Bum, and I think you've got a Mardi-Bum sweatshirt as well, which I particularly love. But that's a great story. Thank you, Alisa. We've had so many messages from people about such hilarity. Sally Evans, 1968, said my husband went to work with my knickers, stuck to the Velcro on his work trousers. Luckily, they had just come out of the tumble dryer.
Starting point is 00:18:11 Yes, can you imagine if they were not clean? Oh. And Patty Cake Tipto says my knickers were hanging out of the bottom of my leggings in Marks and Spencer's Food Hall. A polite little old lady tapped on my shoulder and just pointed to my ankle and winked and smiled. True story. So good. Thank you. There were so many of those.
Starting point is 00:18:31 Thank you. We also had a voice note from Stu about watching sex scenes with parents. Oh, Lord. Hey, Joanne Zowie. This is Stu here from Cologne in Germany, but originally from Northern Ireland, talking about watching things awkwardly with parents. Quite a few Christmases ago. Normally we play lots of games as a family, but this Christmas we were all a bit sick. And instead of playing games, we all decided to watch a movie. And my grandparents were still alive at the time. And we ended up watching Marley and me, which generally is quite a safe bet. Nice film about a dog. And so we were watching it. My generation, to all the grandkids, my mum and dad, and then also my grandparents, and my great auntie. And it was really funny when I got to the raunchy scene in the bed in Ireland that squeaked a lot. Because my generation started giggling because my parents were. squirming because they had to watch a sex scene with my grandparents who were extremely
Starting point is 00:19:38 religious and conservative. Lots of fun, but it was really funny to see, to observe that happening to my parents. So we were fine, but my parents were not. That's brilliant. Stu, thank you. That was so good. And you know what? It's how lovely to hear from Stu, who's listening to our podcast whilst living in Cologne. What lovely voice. Stu, lovely to have you as a digger. I know. And what's it like living in Cologne?
Starting point is 00:20:04 I've never been to Cologne, actually. I've always quite fancied it. No, I haven't either. But squirming. Squirming, washing. In fact, Coker has now moved on to girls. And I, again, walks into the kitchen. And she was watching something and I start cooking.
Starting point is 00:20:16 And then all of a sudden, I'm aware that there's just silence in the kitchen. I was like, this is not normal. This is strange. And then I'm like, oh, she's watching girls. She's just paused it because there's something saucy happening on the screen, obviously. And then as soon as I leave, the TV goes on again. I have been begging Nell to watch girls because I've started rewatching it from the beginning and I love that series and those girls and you love to hate them sometimes and they can be
Starting point is 00:20:40 really irritated. You know, Marnie's always so annoying. But they're so brilliant. I was saying to Nell, you should watch this because it's all about relationships and it's all about what we think of ourselves and we're young and trying to find your way in the world and, you know, good and bad relationships and terrible things you do to your friends and stuff. And it's so brilliantly written. Yeah. It's so good. It's really interesting having India gone through it and now Coco's going through it as well at the age of 17.
Starting point is 00:21:06 And it is almost like a text that you study this when you get to a certain age. I did actually watch Gossip Girl for the first time this weekend with my twin nieces. And I got well into that, young Blake lively and Leighton Leicester. Oh, yeah, no, all. It's all scandal and gossip. It's brilliant. And that's it for this week. Have a good week.
Starting point is 00:21:28 Have a lovely week. And I'll see you on Wednesday, though. Brilliant. All right. Bye. Digit is a Persefonica production. Colani Kitchen and Bath can help you? Are you giving away a free faucet this week? Yes, we're giving away a free house of roll faucet or shower kit. What's the cats?
Starting point is 00:21:54 No catch. You don't need to buy anything. Just follow us on social media and watch for an announcement of which of our seven stores will give away a free product that week. I love this. It's as crazy as the Kalani upside down sign at the Berry store. Even crazier? Our price is upside. down too. Don't miss out at Colani Kitchen and Bath.
