Coming up on Diggett.
The thought of going to a wedding on my own,
and I find it really hard having those conversations at tables.
It's one of my most feared things, I think, is going there and you see your name,
and then you don't know the people either side.
It really, really gives me massive anxiety.
And if it just said for you to go to Taylor Swift's wedding, you'd go, you'd be fine with that.
I've never met Taylor Swift, so that's not going to happen.
But if I was accidentally invited, of course I would absolutely go.
Isn't Ed O'Brien the nicest person you could ever hope to me?
I'd be on a desert island with Ed, I think.
I think it'd be fascinating to chat to.
Disco's going to be like, I'm in a minute.
You want to be on a desert island with Ed O'Brien?
What happened to me?
All of that right after this.

Happy Wednesday, Joe. Happy Wednesday, Zoe. And all the diggers, hello. Hi, hi, thank you for
joining us. It's lovely to be here back with you again. How are you? So great. Meeting more
and more diggers out about this. We are growing in number diggers. I love it. Um, every
where, hey, you're in a new setting. Yeah, I'm in a new setting, so I've relocated. So,
so I've moved into, we've got this like a stable block where India was living and now
India's moved out into her own place that this is free. So this is now my studio. But I've not
had time to do very much to it. So I've done a little bit of set dressing, but then there will
be wallpaper. So fans of the skulls, I don't know if I can find the skull wallpaper again,
but I've got ideas for another wallpaper. So next time, hopefully I speak to you, there'll be
wallpaper behind. But it's really nice to be in my own space because before where I was.
Well, you had to share it, didn't you? Yeah, it was our games room. It was where all the kids hung out.
I'd had new cream carpets put on the floor. So I was just paranoid about the animals coming in all the time.
Whereas this has got nice kind of floorboards and lots of space. No one's going to walk in.
And it's really nice to be here. But it will get more exciting as we go along. I'm just kind of building on that.
So bear with us. Adding bits as we go.
happy June June is now with us
I tell you what there's been a lot going on Joe
I feel like I've managed to cram
in a month's worth of activity since I last saw you
what have you been up to
what have I been up to since I last saw you
I think I DJed at Chelsea which was
like the grand finale of the flower show and it was so much fun
it's like the prettiest DJ set you'll ever do
everyone's just so happy there were some people
who bought some aliums on really long stems
and they were just bouncing them up and down
So while I'm DJing, all I can see is these aliums raving in the background, which was great.
So I did that.
Got back into the water again, did some outdoor swimming, which was so lovely.
I did it three times in a row and took Coco and her boyfriend, Joe, and we had the nicest time.
It was really, really lovely.
And the water was about 22 degrees, so it was good.
It was a good temperature.
Went swimming with my friend, Amy, as well.
Lots of family towings and goings and froings and ups and downs and all that kind of stuff.
So juggling quite a lot really
It's weird
Juggling a lot
It's weird yeah
Mum is still recovering from her operation
And she's doing really well
But not as fast as she would like to
My dad's Parkinson's is quite a thing at the moment
I'm navigating that road
Because it's really not something I've ever been aware of
And just trying to get to grips with medication
And how he feels is really hard
And knowing what's Parkinson's and what's my dad
is tricky
And then my sister is seeing
mum and dad being a bit poorly and that's quite hard for her and she's being amazing.
But also her hearing's going, which is really strange.
France's hearing's going.
Yeah, when you've got a handle on everything and then something comes along, it's a curveball
and you're like, oh God, I don't know, I don't know how to deal with this.
So at the moment she's almost deaf.
Like you have to literally get within a inch of her face and really try and focus so she can hear something.
So that's really horrible for her.
Will she be able to get hearing aids?
Would she be alright with that?
No, I don't. She just wouldn't wear hearing aids. She's supposed to wear glasses. Also, she can't see very much. I feel like her world is getting smaller and smaller, which is not very nice to see. So she should wear glasses. It is. When we were little, she was the cutest thing ever. And she had to wear these like national health, really thick glasses that hooked around her ears. So she couldn't tear them off, which she did tear them off, of course. She had these like big, clumpy boots to try and help her walk because her legs were so weak. And she was really knocked need. And she was just so.
unbelievably cute and she's still cute today. But yeah, it's, so I'm, there's a lot going on. I know
loads of my diggers will know exactly what I'm talking about, being that sandwich generation,
trying to help your kids who are also going through some big stuff as well. And yeah, it's a lot.
That's why I swim. That's why I talk to you. Well, that's where you go and get in the water.
Yes. I did some wild swimming. Actually, I mean, it's not strictly true. I went to a really
fantastic spa, South Lodge in Sussex, which is amazing. And they've got, I didn't manage
yet in the lake. They've got a lake there. You'd love it, Joe. I went with Em and Adele.
Adele has looked after Nell for us so that Norm and I could work. She is, she's looked after
all of us, to be honest with you. And she's leaving because Nell's now obviously going to finish
her GCSEs and Adele is going to past as you and we are all bereft. So,
to celebrate, not to celebrate, but to just make a fuss of her.
We went to South Lodge.
Me and Em, who also looks after me.
They're my two wing women.
I just, I couldn't do life without them.
They're so brilliant.
And they've got one of those, you know, like a natural pond that you can swim in?
Which has always been my dream to have one of those.
I mean, this is probably never going to happen.
But it was quite funny because when Em got in, she was like, oh, it's really slimy because it's slimy.
Oh, no, don't put your feet down.
Never put your feet down.
I didn't think it was that bad, but it's so beautiful and you're swimming and the dragonflies are flying around you and all, oh, God, South Lodge spa.
If anyone is in London or in the South or you just want to get away and go somewhere different because it's got this amazing view of the South Downs.
It is, I think, one of the best spas that have ever been to in my life.
It was amazing.
And they've got these lodges that you can stay in.
I think they're quite pricey to stay and we just stayed in the hotel.
But they are phenomenal outdoor baths over a lake and stuff.
But yeah, thanks to Alicia who gave me a rub down with some bamboo sticks, which was incredible.
I didn't realize I needed it.
Is it painful?
No, not painful at all.
Really amazing.
So I can totally recommend it.
And it was lovely to go and spoil Adele because we're really going to miss her.
She's going to work for some friends of us who are the most amazing family.
And she's going to have such a brilliant time with them.
but we are going to miss her
and we're all a bit like la la la she's not
really going
so that was my wild swimming I thought you'd be
proud of me still not got in the sea
I'm going to get in the sea this week
I don't like the sea
why not whether we've discussed this before I don't know
I don't know okay no I didn't know that
A I would rather go in a swimming pool
then I would choose a nice clear lake
then I'd go for a puddle and then I'd go for the sea
why is it so far down your list
because it's salty honestly because it's salty
I don't like this salt.
Makes me feel sick.
Really?
And then the waves
make me feel sick as well.
So I've never,
I've decided I'm not going to swim
the channel at any time.
I've come to it.
I really don't think you should.
No, that's not going to happen.
I really don't want you to do that.
If you're loving Digit so far,

And that way you'll get brand new episodes

As you get older,
these things that you come to an acceptance
of I'm never going to do that in my life.
And that's okay.
Like, I always thought I was going to,
to Kilimanjaro.
I'm not.
I haven't got enough time to do that.
That's okay.
I thought at one point,
maybe I'd try and attempt
to swim a bit of the channel.
I'm not.
It's okay.
And I think it's quite liberating
because your checklist
or your bucket list gets shorter
and shorter.
And then you just do the things
that are actually attainable
that you want to do
rather than things you feel
you ought to do.
I don't know whether
is there anything that springs to mind?
I will never run a marathon.
We know that.
Exactly.
It's just with my hips.
It's just not going to happen.
And there are things that perhaps
I used to do that I just can't do anymore.
Yeah.
Stay up all night dancing.
I need to go to bed about two or three.
Absolute latest.
You know, there's just certain things can't drink in the way I used to do and that's okay.
Yeah.
So when Woody's like, mom, shots, I'm like, love you kid, but I don't, I don't do shots.
Yes.
It's just not wise.
I'm never going to do tequila again.
And I'm happy with that.
I'm good with that because I've had the hangover.
I don't need that again.
Thank you.
I don't need that.
I'm not going to jump out of a plane again.
I did jump out of a plane once with Keith Chegwin, which was amazing.
And once with my brother to raise some money for charity.
And both times were amazing.
But as you get older, it's like going on a roller coaster now.
My body just, it's not as compact as it used to be as you get bigger things move around more.
And that's okay.
And I don't want the feeling of any of my organs in my neck because it's just too much.
I need to be the right way up.
God.
Did you see the roller coaster?
that got stuck and the rescue mission that happened.
Oh my God.
When they were showing the scenes of the girls that were on there,
there were many girls that I saw in the firefighters,
releasing the catch, and they are so high in the ground.
And they're releasing the catch and they're like,
you're safe, you're safe, you're attached to me, it's okay.
You've got to move towards me.
It's my worst nightmare.
My worst nightmare.
Those poor creatures being in that roller coaster all that time, so high up.
Oh, my God.
We got stuck once only momentarily on, is it called the big one?
at Blackpool where it stopped and it's pretty high up and it didn't stop for long.
I remember thinking, are we going to go back or we're going to go forward?
Oh my God.
And then I was thinking, are we going to have to walk down those steps because I'm really scared of heights?
Yeah, same, same.
I tried abseiling once and my legs would not take a step.
And I was only three floors up.
And I was like, oh, I can't do this.
So I could never go down a cliff or anything like that.
So the idea of being stuck on a roller coaster high up and then having to come down the steps.
Or, yeah, how those incredible firefighters got those kids out safely.
Because your body wouldn't want to move, would it?
It's like what you mean?
Climb out of this carriage that is, you know, parallel to the ground, which is thousands of feet down onto a platform.
They were just saying, I can't breathe, I can't move, I can't walk, I can't do anything as you would.
And those firefighters had to coerce them and make them do that and make them.
have that leap of faith or that step of faith into their arms.
So brave.
It was unbelievable.
I remember going to the Eiffel Tower.
I'm the same as you with heights.
I cannot.
Yes.
It makes me turn to jelly the thought of being up high.
But doing the Eiffel Tower and you just get to even the first level and you can look down and you just see the ground.
There's just like slats and holes and you can just see where you'd fall if you fell.
I was literally on my knees going back down again.
I couldn't go any higher.
I know.
Because the thing with the Eiffel Tower is you can see through every one.
where you look because of the way it's constructed,
it's sort of like you can see the ground no matter where you're standing.
And I was exactly the same.
My family were all like, come and look at the view.
I was like, no thanks.
I'm just going to stay here until we go back down.
Four points of contact at all times.
Yeah.
I tried that one in, is it, I can't remember it is.
Is it in Vancouver where you can walk, you go really high up and then you can walk on
the glass so you can see down.
And my foot would not step on the glass.
It's like, I can't do it.
I can't step on the glass.
So when you see them on, I'm a celeb, walk off those platforms off skyscrapers.
There's just no way I could do that stuff.
My body wouldn't let me do it.
I just think it'd be like, you're crazy.
Don't do that.
But yet you've jumped out for plane twice.
See, I could never do that in a million years.
How did you make yourself do that?
What was going on the second before you took the plunge?
Well, I think the first time I did it, I'd done some filming with this incredible nun who
was 100 and she was jumping out of a plane and I couldn't even turn around to hold the microphone
to talk to her. And then I watched her do it and I thought, she's amazing this lady. I don't know
what I interviewed her for. It probably was the big breakfast. And then I think it was the 100th episode
and wonderful Cheggers who I loved working with and I really missed that man. He was such an
amazing, amazing man. And I had the happiest days working with him. They just said one day,
oh you and Cheggers are going to jump out of a plane for the 100th episode and land for the beginning of the show.
And I was like, yeah, okay.
Because it had been a long week.
And I was like, yeah, fine.
Oh, you're mad.
Thinking, oh, it'll be fine.
And I remember being so tired because I think I'd had my wisdom teeth out that week.
So I think I was on some heavy pain killers or something around that.
And we did it with the RAF.
So I was attached to this fantastic guy from the RAF.
I think his name was Steve.
And we did like proper, I think it was.
15,000 feet. We did free fall. Some reason I was just really quite calm, probably the
pain killers. And I loved it. It was amazing. But also, I wasn't in charge. Steve from the
RF was in charge. So he was pulling the cords and we did it. And when we landed, I remember
being, I'm joining a skydiving team. That's it. I found my calling. And Cheggers landed and was like,
never again. Anyway, I did it then probably sort of 15, 20 years later with my.
brother because we wanted to raise some money for MND charity after we'd lost our amazing stepdad
Rick and there was a whole group of people jumping for MND and and that time I they flipped us the
guys who took us they were really brilliant and I was and they flipped us so we spun around quite a lot
and so I didn't really know which way was up and when I landed I thought brilliant but I can't
ever do that again I can't ever do that again because everything
thing was just moving. Oh my God. Did you feel sick for days? I wasn't too bad actually. Jamie,
my brother felt really sick because they really spanned it. And he, because he just didn't know
which way was up for any of the fall. I cannot think of anything. But they were brilliant guys and
I love them and, you know, the daftest outfits. To be honest with, the free fall is the best bit.
Because I guess it's the closest to flying you would ever get as a human. And when you're flying
through the out, I can see why people would love that. The parachute,
shoot bit. That's the bit when I start to freak out. Once it's open, I'm like, okay, we're going
to be okay. But then you've got to, it's like, where are you going to land? You've got to
pick your legs up. People, I mean, people learn to do it on their own without, I just, I would only
ever do that with someone professional and sensible. And I'm really glad I did it. I've got some
pictures of me and Cheggers doing it. I'll find them. Oh, yeah, do. Oh, no, I want to see them.
No. Yeah. I once went around the racetrack at Silverston, which obviously is so many people's
dreams and we live really close to Silverson. So I was asked to go along and be in a racing car.
We went around, I think we went around maybe one and a half times around the circuit. And then
at that point, I was just like, okay, can I need to get out the car now. I need to make it stop.
You know when you're on a fairground ride and you're like, make it stop, make it stop. And so I made
him stop the car and I got out the car and I chucked up and I vomited for about 48 hours.
I couldn't stop feeling dizzy. It was just that feeling of going round, so,
fast and oh my god i hated it i hated it so when people say that they'd pay loads of money to go
around the racetrack i'm like god are you sure you sure you want to do that so you're not going to do
when they do the new series of top gear you're not going to do star in a fast car no i would be doing star in a
very fast car i'll be doing star in a bumper car maybe i always watched them do that and thought
i'd love a go at that yeah but i think um i think i'd probably ride the clutch oh um yeah i had a guy
called the TIG take me around
Brand's Hatch.
And I know what you mean.
It's like, this is really fun.
Oh my God.
We're not even going that fast right now.
And I'm terrified.
And then when they really speed up, it's like,
I thank you so much.
I've had a lovely time.
Goodbye.
Honestly.
Not fun.
It's so fast.

Right, time for a break.
We took goose onto the water for the first time this weekend.
We went because we...
What did he make of it?
He loved it. He loved it.
There's dogs and going fast on a boat.
Their ears just kind of flap in the wind and they try and catch the spray of the water.
It's the funniest sight.
He didn't quite get to that level, but he was really happy.
He's doing so well.
I haven't really given an update about him, but we've started puppy training.
And he's going really fast.
And he is just, he's adorable.
He's so sweet.
And he's really friendly.
And he's the kind of dog that you take out.
And every single person that walks past you will have to stop and they would have to stroke him.
And they'll have to say, what breed is he?
It's like a magnet.
It's ridiculous.
Steve is taking him out for walks all the time.
He's never spoken to so many people.
He's got loads of new friends now.
Disco, he's got loads of.
a new mate. So, yeah. We're just looking at the picture of him now. He's like a little cartoon dog.
Yeah. He's like a, he's like a dog in a kid's book who you'd fall in love with because look at his
lovely white paws. Yeah, socks. And his face, he is a dream dog. It's like if you, when I want the
most perfect dog, that's him. And he's, and he's really well behaved as well. Well, when I say really
well behaved? No, he's not. We're, we're getting that. Yeah, he's a puppy. He's doing all. He bites in the
evening. He has the Zoom is, which I'd never heard of before until we got him. But apparently
it's a thing when he goes, yeah, they just like babies when they cry. It's like the witching
hour and dogs just go crazy and they jump everywhere and they bite you. And can I just say that
I am sitting here doing this podcast with the faint smell of my cat's doings. Because he, I think
because I've been away all weekend, he's furious with me, Wilbur, bless him. And I love him very much.
but he did a huge poo on the front door mat this morning
and it's like you know on those mat you can't get it all out
so I've got to rip it all up take it out
my lovely neighbour Alan took in some huge parcels
I don't even know what they are apparently one of them's like four foot
and he's taken them in and he'd come to the door
and I'm in my towel with a thing with a bath cap on my head
and I'm trying to scrub the runny poo
off the door mat
and Alan's trying to deliver the thing
thing and I'm late for the podcast and I was like so the cat's been shut outside for a minute and I've
got to go and deal with him in a minute he's also furious with me because he's got a really thick fur and he
can't take the heat it's really tough for pets isn't it during this heat and so I think he's going
to need a little sort of haircut this week and a little bit of loving because I've been away all
weekend we went to an amazing wedding this weekend and it was so amazing it was incredible I love
the way they show you that they're not happy, that they're displeased with you. Because
that's Wilbur obviously just like, I'm just going to poop on your doorstep and then you will
never leave me alone again. That's what he's saying to you. That's an amazing way. He pooed in the
bath last night as well. He pooed in the bath last night. It's like, great, thanks. I mean,
I'm never bathing in mine and you're never going to bath in your bath again. We had Django
has been pooping in the kitchen because we've made him sleep with goose and he never,
ever, ever used to sleep with anybody before.
And so the whole last week, he just barked every single night, just really, really persistent,
annoying barks until in the end I got up and came downstairs and he had pooped everywhere
as well.
And so I had to let him out.
And so now they're sleeping separately and it's kind of working out.
But that was obviously his way of just going, I'm just going to keep on doing this until
you listen to me and do what I want you to do.
You either change this up, this situation or I am just going to poop everywhere.
They talk to you.
you can't translate what they're saying to you. So they have to physically show you. They have to
show you. Yeah. I mean, can you imagine if we did that when we were unhappy to show our family that
we were really tempting? It's tempting at times. It's pooping in the bar. Right. Tell us about your
weekend because it sounds like you had the loveliest time. Well, first of all, happy birthday too.
My gorgeous stepmom die and my dad, they're both Gemini's. My dad was 88 last week and then
dies birthdays a week later. So we had a really lovely ball family dinner. None of the
the grandkids made it because Albi and Nel do GCSEs.
Woody had a gig in Kent.
But we had a lovely dinner in Beaconsfield.
If anyone's been to, I think it's a Raymond Blanc, although we always call him Raymond.
I think that's because of Peter K.
Raymond Blanc, his restaurant in Beaconsfield.
So we had the cheese souffle at Brassier Blanc is amazing.
So it was really lovely to see my brothers and my lovely Uncle Paul and Lynn.
and Tiff, who's my brother Nick's girlfriend's mum,
lovely Jan's who had lovely gathering.
But this was on the end of what had been an amazing wedding weekend.
Our friends, Eva and James, got married and they had a really,
they did a little secret thing, what they've done a small wedding.
And then they're going to do a big celebration.
So it was just bridesmaids and the maids of dishonour, as we called ourselves.
and the best men and the groomsmen and then just a close few and Eva's sister and her nephew.
And a lot of us hadn't met James's friends and James's friends hadn't met some of Eva's friends.
And it was just the most fabulous celebration in this amazing place.
And thanks to James and Sophie and to Harriet and all the crew at Parnham Park.
They've basically James used to run Fantasia raves years ago and he had a place.
called Einho, which is where Noel Gallagher had his birthday party.
Oh, I drive past there all the time. It's amazing. It's massive. That place. I know.
So they used to own that place. And now they have a place called Parnham Park, which is a beautiful old house,
part of which burnt down. And they've been slowly restoring it. And it is incredible. I think
Sense and Sensibility were filming there a couple of weeks ago. It was phenomenal.
the most amazing setting for a wedding
and we were spoiled.
Sophie and James and all the gang who look after them.
Big shout out to Mark the butler,
Mark the beekeeper,
to Robin and all the staff.
There's a restaurant there as well.
So you can go and eat there
and the food is just next level.
And as you can imagine,
there was some pretty epic superstar DJs
because Eva's got quite a few friends
who are DJs.
So I had a really lovely moment
of dancing with Nell, who was a bridesmaid
and her dad
who had just DJed
whilst our son DJed,
well Woody DJed for everyone.
And a big shout out to Barry Dub Pistall
who kept his set
short so that Woody could go on
which was really lovely of him
and we all went crazy.
It was, they've got in
this amazing house and these incredible
grounds, they've got a club
called the smuggler snuff, which is in the, in underneath.
And it fits about 30 people.
So there was just this mini rave.
It was amazing.
So what were you dancing to?
Like with all these superstar DJs who play a whole gamut and stuff,
what were the big hits?
What were the, what were the floor film?
Well, the thing is they played lots of, you know, lots of wedding hits as well.
So there was some proper, you know, great rave.
There was drum and bass.
There was happy house.
there was an amazing guy called Davos
who sort of plays all the kind of club
hits on a piano with a key top
Oh I love that
But also the house is full of really amazing
Taxidermies and there's like a big polar bear
And then there's dinosaur bones
And it's just
This place is incredible
If you are looking for a venue
To have a wedding or a celebration
Seriously look up at Parnan Park
It's fabulous
So you're just
It was amazing
And to be honest with you
it was so full of love. We love Eva and James so much. And James's daughter, Willow, was one of the bridesmaids. And it, yeah, it was pretty joyous. And then they're going to have a huge big celebration for all their friends further down the road. But it was, yeah. Oh, what a great weekend.
Oh, same weekend as really, really good. Dewa as well. Dewa got married. Yes, it's been a big weekend for weddings, hasn't it?
What did you think? What did you think of the outfits? You saw the photographs? Do you know what? How fast? How fast?
fabulous was this. Dua Leeper married Callum Turner, potentially the new James Bond,
think he'd be amazing. I love their story of them. Didn't they get talking because they were
both reading the same book? I don't know this story. What was it? There's this story.
There might be more to it than this, that they were both reading the same book and they got
talking about it. And that, I think that's right. Let's believe that. Someone on the Digger team
will probably correctly. And a lot of people talk about that. And we've just sort of seen
them fall so in love because obviously poor things they've followed all the time and I imagine that
must be pretty tough. But there were rumours spreading that they were going to get married,
but it was going to be in Sicily. But actually, they've done the registry office in Maribone where
I drive past that all the time because it's near work, isn't it, for us? And I love it. I always
want to do the thing they do in Italy, which is when anyone's getting married, they tuit the horns.
But if you two at your horn on that road, people think you're an aggressive driver. So I usually wave out
the window. So they got married there at the registry office. She's in this fantastic outfit,
which was inspired by Bianca Jagger when she married Mick Jagger. Big hat. And the suit, which is,
who is it? Scaparrelli. I think so. Not great with pronunciation. Probably said in them.
Caparelli. So she looks phenomenal. Eve on the, on the Digit Pod said, actually, that's going to be
tricky for the first kiss. She's probably going to have to tilt her head on an angle for Callum's
to get in there. But I think then they're there doing.
that thing of a big celebration is supposedly in Sicily or somewhere. So congratulations to them.
Best thing about it, how happy do they look? She is so glowing with love. They look so loved up.
It's really beautiful. And their friends obviously just adore them too. And I have to say,
you've interviewed her, I've interviewed her. She is just the most beautiful soul. Not only is she a fantastic pop star. She is such a
gorgeous girl. She comes into the room with all this energy and this effervescence. And when she
leaves, everyone is smiling. And she just spreads that joy. What you see is what you get. She's
so beautiful. She takes your breath away. But she's also a real laugh. She's so laid back. She's from the
most gorgeous family. Her dad is delightfully handsome as well. It's sort of like, yeah, so good luck to
Yeah. And I hope they have an, if they are having a big celebration in Sicily or wherever it is, I hope they have an, of course they can have it. And we can you imagine. I thought you were going to say, where's my invitation? If they are, haven't received the invitation yet. Thank you. Well, were you invited to Taylor Swift's wedding? Because hasn't Greg James been invited? Not yet. Not yet. I haven't been invited. I mean, you know, never say never. Is it next month? Isn't Graham Norton going? Is he? Graham Norton's going, isn't he?
Is Greg really going though?
I don't know.
I've sort of heard him talk about it on the radio that when she was on the show, she was with him, she said, well, obviously you're coming.
And he was like, am I?
But I think the last I'd heard, he sounded like he hadn't had an invitation.
I don't know.
We'll have to get our texting.
She must meet a lot of people.
She must get interviewed by a lot of radio DJs and how she decides which radio DJs she chooses to go to her wedding.
I don't know.
I think Greg's interviewed her a few more times than I have and probably you as well.
But yeah, surely it'd be close friends and family.
But it has sparked up a conversation because apparently someone was invited to her wedding
and it's no plus one.
You're just invited, you know.
And there's this whole conversation about wedding etiquette.
If you're invited to a wedding and you're not invited with a plus one, do you ask to take someone else?
See, I wouldn't.
If it was just said Zoe Ball, I would just turn up on my own.
Because I think at that point, if, you know, you know, you know.
how tricky it is. Yeah. And I
sometimes looked back at, you know, when I
got married, I looked back at wedding photos and
think, who the hell was that? There's half the
people I didn't even know who they were.
Because, you know, I think I would just, you know,
be like, oh, come to our wedding, yeah, I've met you
once, great. And you look back and think, who were those people?
So, you know, how about you, Joe? You see,
I'm, I fully believe in
wedding etiquette that you should just, you know,
not be cheeky. I just remember when
I was planning my own wedding with, with disco
and the family getting involved
and my mum saying,
oh, well, you know,
obviously you need to invite this auntie
and then that cousin,
that bit removed.
And I was just like being mind-blown
because I just want to invite my mates.
I just want my friends to come along.
I haven't seen that cousin for like 20 years.
And it was really hard,
whittling people down and getting the right number
because we couldn't have too many there
because it's really expensive
when you get married.
Yeah, so expensive.
Yeah, because I do as I'm told quite often.
We did have a lot of family
and then I had some chosen friends
But I think, yeah, you can't just blaggy.
You can't say, oh, no, I need my friend to come.
You just have to go on your own.
And I know that is really tough because the thought of going to a wedding on my own.
And I find it really hard having those conversations at tables when you're sat.
It's one of my most feared things, I think, is going there and you see your name
and then you don't know the people either side of you.
You could make conversation for the whole of the meal.
I just, it really, really gives me massive anxiety.
And I really dry up.
And I know you're supposed to ask them lots of questions.
The conversation is supposed to flow
But I really struggle with it
I don't know about you
And I bet other diggers
But other diggers will know exactly the same thing
Just striking up conversations
With people you're never going to see again
You're never going to see them
It is hard at a wedding to
But I think you've just got to get involved
And I'll ask loads of questions
I was really lucky I was sat
But there weren't, he was wedding
It wasn't huge
So I think it was about 30, 35 people
And I was sat next to the best man Tom
and his girlfriend, Bex, who I didn't know
and they were so much fun and really easy to talk to.
And, you know, we were talking about Eva and James and history and stuff.
But it was near, because it was a small wedding.
I was near my friends as well.
So it was really lovely.
But it can be a tricky thing going to a wedding on your own.
But I think you've got to be brave.
Also, I kind of like the small wedding.
And I think people are doing it that way now.
I'd recently gone to Ed and Rachel's wedding.
And that was smaller.
and just everybody in a pub
because I think these things are crazy expensive
also with a lot of my friends
people are getting married later in life
and at that point
although you want to invite millions of people
sometimes you do need things to be a little more intimate
and it is tricky isn't it
because there's always someone's going to be a bit put out by
oh you know I'm not being invited to that bit
on this bit but I think if you
love and respect your friends
and loved ones you just have to go
you've got to do it your way
You've got to invite the people you can and do it your way.
But I think I would, if you'd invited someone with no plus one, I think you don't take someone or you don't ask to take someone.
No.
Because if people want you to bring a plus one and they've got the money to have all these extra people, they will say, guess plus one.
Bring someone, of course you can.
I think if you're not asked to bring a plus one, I think that's a big no-no.
So if the invite does come for you or for me.
And if he just said for you to go to Taylor Swift wedding,
you'd go, you'd be fine with that.
I've never met Taylor Swift, so that's not going to happen.
But if I was accidentally invited to Taylor Swift's wedding on my own,
of course I would absolutely go.
You might, I don't know whether you know Hannah,
who used to be my producer at Radio 1.
Okay.
I love her so much.
And she was my producer at Radio 1 for a long time.
And I had Calise on my show as a guest,
and Calise is fantastic as well.
So Calise is on the show.
Hannah is quite quirky and she was obsessed with knitting at the time.
So she used to come in and produce a show.
It's obviously quite boring if you're sitting there day in, day out.
So she started knitting while she was producing me.
So Calise is sitting there.
I'm asking her questions.
Hannah is knitting in the background.
And Calice just keeps looking around and looking at Hannah going,
what is she doing?
And in the end, had to say, can you teach me how to knit?
Because she wanted to learn how to knit.
And then Hannah became Calise's knitting teacher.
And then they became friends.
And then Calice married Naz.
and Calise invited Hannah to her wedding
and she went to Calise's wedding
because she was Colise's knitting teacher.
Her professional knitting teacher.
Yeah, and she went on her own.
She crossed the Atlantic
and she went and she went to this wedding
with all these superstar rappers and DJs
and God knows what
and went to the wedding, went to the reception,
came back home again.
How cool is that?
It's really cool.
That is pretty epic, isn't it?
Okay, we have.
have to talk about gardens now and we have to talk about roses. I think 2026 is going to go down
as one of the vintage year for roses. I am not entirely sure whether it's the sun ratio or the
water ratio or what it is, but this year is absolutely exceptional. I have never seen the roses
looking so good in my garden or anywhere else that I go. I tried last night to take lots of
photographs of the roses and I just couldn't do them justice. I was so frustrated because
the beauty of what I was looking at, what I was.
smelling the glow around the roses
I couldn't capture on a camera.
So I've done a couple of pathetic photographs
but oh my God Zoe, I'm sure your garden
is exactly the same but they are
absolutely stunning.
Everywhere you look, thousands of roses and
really bright, healthy blooms.
I'm wondering whether it's a
combination of the mulch. You've got me
into mulch and I got some fantastic
mulch delivered to me this year.
In fact, a couple of other people have said thanks for
mentioning that company with the mulch because
I got some mulch from them. I'm wondering if
that I was also sent some really lovely rose feed for a company
and I'll get pictures of both of those so that we can share
because they're fabulous but mine honestly I'm in awe
I'm in awe of the scent that's coming off them
I've got the Larka sending which you had bought me which is just outside here
and it's so beautiful my Olivia Rose is wonderful
my Bathsheba is great Bathsheba
my Gabriel Oak is a little slow this year
because I've got Bathsheba and Gabriel Oak together
because I'm slightly obsessed with far from the Madden crowd anyway
so I got those two together
but they are so fantastic and you're right
they're so beautiful and they smell incredible
and you just can't ever re-correct the photographs
always look a little bit disappointing
look at that one that you're holding in your hand there
I know it's just got stunning really frilly
and when you start to look at them you get obsessed with
how has nature made it?
something this stunning, this intricate, how it's just, it's just mind-blowing. In the end, I just
thought, I'm just going to stand back and I'm going to soak this all in. And my friend Adele
was over and I took her and she's not massively into gardens, but we wandered down the border.
And she was like, oh my God. And it was really lovely thing to share with other people. It was
so, so wonderful. Everything's really big. But now, I don't know if anyone else, other diggers have
got the stop and smell the roses. Yeah. I'm definitely playing Elvis Costello. It's been a good year for
the roses tonight.
Yeah, good year for the roses.
But has anybody else got garden overwhelm?
Are you feeling the overwhelm when it comes to your garden?
Because mine, oh my God, I don't know where to start because the roses are really big,
but they're also, they need supporting.
And I thought I'd supported them enough.
Of course, I have not.
And everything's kind of growing and tangling.
Some things are going over so they need cutting back.
There's just, there's so much to do.
Yeah, I'm also slightly panicking about, you know, there's going to be a hose pipe ban any minute now.
I mean, in the south, you know, southern water.
it's there's always issues and I'm just waiting I'm like trying to just you know
sort of a couple of times a week yeah do a really good water in the morning do a feed
once a week and just keep an eye I've got water butts but I look at them I think oh there's
only three there are any little and they don't go far do they there is a hose pipe ban I know I've
got to sort out an irrigation system which I've not got around to so I've got all of that
I also got it is fantastic knitting nettles yeah that's the best way isn't it because it's a
slow release, which is good for the water supply and it's also good for the plants.
Mine has not been working and I've noticed a difference. And it's a real luxury to have it.
It's something I've really wanted for years and then eventually got it set up from Gardena.
And it hasn't been working up until now. So my borders have really been suffering.
I've really noticed everything being very dry and all I've been doing is trying to water the flowers whenever I get a second.
But now it's up and running again. It's very nicely taken the pressure off me.
So if anyone is thinking of splashing out, I can wholeheartedly say it's on.
really great thing to do. But like you say, you know, slow water release, so it's not wasting any
water as well. And it makes a massive difference. Exactly. I bought one for the garden centre,
but then I'm looking at all the attachments like, oh, God, this is way beyond my capability.
Oh my God, it's so complicated, honestly. Yeah, it boggles my mind. I'm going to have to call
the gardener people. I might call them. Trying to connect with this hose part to that part,
whether it's male or female and then, oh my God, it's so complicated. It really is. Then I do that.
thing I turn it on and then it
psh, it gets
everywhere. I'm like, oh no.
Oh, so good.
Do share pictures of your gardens
with us, diggers, because we know a lot of you
are massively into your garden and you might
just have a pot on your patio
out the back or something. And I know a lot of you
are quite new to gardening too.
So if you've got some little wins or something
you're really enjoying in your garden at the moment, do send us
some picks. We'll share them.
And we've got some tips from gardening with
Ish. It was very lovely to see him at Chelsea.
Yeah, it was.
He's done this a little video on how to turn your weeds into plant feed.
What a brilliant idea.
Hello, Joe and Zoe ish here.
And today in the garden, I'm going to show you how to turn your weeds into feeds.
Now, I'm going to show you a part of the garden you never normally see.
This is my dedicated weed corner, which has got all sorts of things in it, from thistles to sticky weeds to, you know, well, whatever that is.
And they'll continue to grow through here on and on and on.
And I leave it here for one reason and one reason only.
and that is to create feeds with these because these are absolutely jam-packed full of nutrients.
Common weeds like steen nettles and sticky weeds are absolutely jam-packed full of nitrogen,
which is great to introduce into your plants.
But unfortunately, you can't shred this up and stick it on them because, well, you'll just create more weeds,
and no one wants that.
So what I do is I fill this container and absolutely ram it full of those weeds,
and then I top it all off with some water.
And what I'm doing is effectively making some sort of a feed tea,
which is absolutely perfect for your plants.
You want to fill this up to the brim, pop the lid on top, and leave it for a couple weeks.
After a few weeks, all of those nutrients would have broken down into the water that's in this container,
and you have to create your own perfect nitrogen-rich concentrated feed.
And all you've got to do is add this to your watering can, about 10 to 1 with water,
and you're all good to go.
You've got your very own feed for your plants.
Now, what I like to do is add mine in a little dispenser like this,
just so it's easy to put straight in your watering can.
It doesn't have to be strawberry shape.
That doesn't impact it whatsoever.
But a word of warning, though, the smell of this is absolutely disgusting.
So I'd advise, don't open it, just pour it in your watering can.
And it doesn't have to be weeds.
It can also be grass cuttings as well.
But just remember, you don't have to always throw them away.
Sometimes you can just put them to use.
Take care.
Oh.
Oh, is he so good, isn't he?
Yes, he's really good.
I love his eagerness.
And the warning that it stinks, but don't worry, it's good for the plants.
So that's what I'm going to do.
I'm going to try and find myself some kind of container like that.
Strawberry, raspberry, whatever.
shape. Of course it is.
But I will go and get those stingers.
I'll go low. There's loads.
Oh my God. The stingers are everywhere at the moment.
I am loving the pelagoniums as well
as the roses and I've mentioned
pelagoniums before but passionately, passionately
now go and get yourself as big
a pelagonium as you possibly can within your
space and stick it in a pot because when it comes
to things that are hungry and need lots
of water or attention, they're pretty
good. You can leave them and they can survive and they
have so much colour and
it goes throughout the whole summer. I'm
becoming more and more obsessed for them.
And they come in so many different varieties as well
so you can have, you know, like really
delicate, gorgeous, fragrant
little pelagoniums and then you can have big blousy,
bright pink, scarlet,
iridescent coral, and then you can have a deep,
dark, I've got tommies, I really,
really love tommies, which are like a dark, black,
chocolatey red. But they're
so good in terms of not having to fret about
watering them all the time for, and
give you a maximum effect. They give you so much
joy and colour in your garden.
I bought two with you and
and they're there waiting to be potted.
I'm hoping that they've survived the weekend
because they weren't potty.
It's tricky when you're away.
But yeah, and I think I've got one on my back doorstep.
I'll do my plant app.
Anyone who's a bit like me and doesn't know the name of lots of plants,
if you get the plant app, you can take a photograph of any plant you see anywhere,
whether it's a garden centre, they're labelled.
But if you're out and you see one in someone else's front garden as you're walking past
and you like it, but you don't know what it is,
you just take a little picture of it and it will tell you what the plant is.
And then you can keep it in a little folder.
And then you can also do that.
It's really good for learning the names of the plants in your garden.
I really noticed at Chelsea.
I was saying to some of my friends,
I was like,
Joe really knows her stuff.
Because I was sort of,
when I'm with pros,
with professional gardeners,
and I'm like,
I like this and I like that.
And I think I know quite a few plant names.
And I realize that I don't,
there's quite a lot that I don't know.
Or I think I remember them.
And then I get,
you know,
I get my hellebores confused with my,
I don't know what other my euphobias or whatever.
And sometimes they get a bit confused with them.
And I was, Joe, you are amazing.
You know so many.
It's really impressive.
It just comes with time, doesn't it?
It just comes with time.
The more you've, an experience.
Yeah, exactly.
And then in the end, it's just, it's in there.
It's knowledge.
It's just in your head.
By the way, if you want to hear more of Ishes gardening antics,
you can check out his YouTube channel, which is called Today in the Garden.
So thank you, Ish.
So obviously, we have all these obsessions going on in our lives.
One of them is gardens and flowers and plants.
And the other is music, which is a big passion.
for me and also Zoe
and I know all of you who listen and watch the polls
so Zoe what have you
been enamoured with? Who are you obsessed with
this week? Okay I am obsessed with
this album from Ed O'Brien it's called
Blue Morpho
he's obviously from Radio Head
he's amazing, he's produced it with Paul
Epworth, it's written and produced by Paul
Epworth Philip Selway plays drums
on a couple of the tracks
it is really trippy
it's beautiful
I mean I don't even really know how to describe it
It's perfect soundtrack to have on the background on a beautiful summer's evening.
It takes you away to a whole other place.
And I absolutely, I've been really lost in this music.
So congratulations to Ed.
That is amazing.
And another album that I'm loving because I love this band.
They're from Melbourne.
They're called King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.
It's just, I mean, the best name for a band ever.
and this is called laminated denim
and again very different to Ed's album
but what a wicked band they are
bit noisier, total rock and roll
and I'm hoping that they are playing in a town near you soon
Ed, by the way, Ed O'Brien is playing at the Barbican
I think in October and that will be a phenomenal gig
so grab your tickets quick if there are any left
so there are my offerings for this week on crate digging
isn't Ed O'Brien the nicest person you could ever hope
to meet.
And he's lovely.
He is so utterly charming and kind and such a sweetheart.
But if you were, oh my God, I'd be on a desert island with Ed, I think.
I think it'd be fascinating to chat to and he'd just be very calm or would, you know,
would keep you safe.
That's how I always feel with Ed.
Disco's going to be like, I'm in a minute.
You want to be on a desert island with Ed O'Brien?
What happened to me?
I just suddenly thought I'd really like to spend some time talking to him because I think
he's really fascinating.
He's always been so sweet.
Disco could be DJing in the background.
Oh yeah, playing all the records you don't want to play.
Like Whitney.
What?
Sorry?
I've just got new musical recommendations, so not whole albums, but people who I think are really talented that I'm playing on my show that I'm really excited about for the future.
And the new Lola Young song is just stunning.
Her voice is so different to how it has been on previous singles.
It's a real maturity and gravitas to her voice and it's really mesmerizing the song.
And I hope that it's the sign of it.
of really great things to come from Lola Young.
So Lola, congratulations, well done.
She's worked with James Blake on this and it really shows the collaboration between the two of those.
It's a beautiful piece of music.
Then there are new artists.
Mary in the Junkyard is someone that I've just come to recently and the music is very interesting,
lots of instrumentation going on, really lovely kind of ethereal voices, fascinating sound.
So Mary in the Junkyard.
I just want to mention a few bands who are up and coming.
I think they'll be playing lots of festivals over the summer that you might want to go and see.
So if you see the name down and you're at a festival, just go, yeah, Joe, I remember Joe mentioned these.
So there's a band called Keio.
They, four of them in the band, and they come from London, and they have Irish roots as well, I think.
But they make a really good noise, loads of people talking about them.
So Keio are somebody, I would recommend you go see.
Waysia projects are really, really great as well, and also Maisie Peters.
So these are all like young, new artists who've got music coming out at the moment, who are making good sound.
So if you're going to go to a streaming platform anywhere, listen to their latest.
songs because they're all very, very good. And they've got big projects coming out this year.
It's so exciting, is it? It feels like a really exciting time for music at the moment. I was really
chuffed. I've managed to get tickets to Nick Cave. He's playing in Preston Park soon. We've got
some really amazing gigs down Brighton Way. I know the Maccabees are playing on the beach with
like West Side Cowboy are playing, Lyme Garden. There's like a, I mean, their line-up is
like a festival day. So that's coming up. Westside Cowboy are going from strength to strength,
aren't they? Oh, they are so good. They're so good. I know that there's quite a few of the gang on the pod who really love them as well. I think Fat Boy is playing on the beach with some pretty amazing other DJs like horse meat disco. Yeah, I know. He's playing down there. Yeah, it's sort of, it's the beginning of festival season, isn't it? It was suddenly like, oh, here we go. You're going to latitude, don't you? I'm going to be at latitude. I'm going to be at what great?
Wonder World. No. Wilderness. Wonder World.
I'm going to we out there
Oh we out here
Oh we out here
Is that the Giles Peterson one
The Giles Peterson one
I know I'm really excited about it
It's not till August
It's ages away
But yeah
Just do you know
The wedding
I got to dance
For hours
It was brilliant
I realized I hadn't had a dance
To since Glastonbury
Last year
And there is no
Glastonbury this year
So that was my Glastonbury
Eva and James's wedding
Was my Glastonbury
So thank you to them
For you know
And to dance
to Woody playing records. It was really cool. He played some amazing things. It was a really cute moment when
the next day his dad was like, can you send me that record? I love that full circle. Full circle.
It was me going, what about that Brazilian one? And he's like, mum, what did it sound like? I'm like, I don't know, it's not a
Brazilian. It's like, you need to give me a bit more. I was like, you know, the one that went, wow.
Oh, that's great. I'm also going to while of white. I've just remembered now. You threw me. I was
trying to think, what's my summer hold? Because we have Isle of White. You're playing.
You're playing.
Yeah, I'm playing there.
Same time as a cure.
Spectatically bad timing, but never mind.
Oh no.
It's fine.
Damn it.
I'm in the tent.
I mean, it's really good.
I loved playing the Isle of Wight last time.
It was such a buzz.
There were so many people in that massive tent.
It was really good.
So we can do that all over again.
And yeah.
And then I'm also doing, I'm playing a wilderness too.
And then just going to latitude for jokes and David Byrne and to have fun.
It's some good bands playing at latitude this year.
It's going to be good.
I thought you said you were going to go.
to latitude to tell jokes.
I was like, are you in a comedy tent?
I chose to hear.
Maybe. Maybe. A bit of moonlighting.
Should we say goodbye?
Because we've talked so much.
Yes. It's been lovely.
We've covered a lot.
And we'll be back on Monday.
Diggers, let us know what you've been loving,
what's been happening in your world.
If you want to get in touch with us,
you can find out how in the show notes.
I want to hear all about who do you think you are.
So let's do that on Monday, shall we?
Oh, we'll do that on Monday.
Yes.
Bye, diggers.
Bye, diggers.
Digit is a Persephonicah production.
