Very early in my career, I kinda shot out real fast.
And that was against JDFs.
And I just went out guns blazing and ended up...
You got gassed?
Nah, I ended up getting clipped.
Oh, shit.
And he dropped me and then next minute I remember I wake up,
I just, my eyes opened and he...
I just saw his elbow hit me in the face.
I was like, yeah, fuck.
All right, guys, we got Ty here from Australia.
Let's go, man.
How are you, bro?
Long flight.
Very long flight.
I've been over here for a little bit now, so
I'm definitely ready to go home.
You up or down gambling?
Ha ha ha ha.
From last night, definitely down.
Oh.
But I haven't been out to the casino much.
I'm staying there, but haven't been down there until last night.
Do you gamble a lot in general or?
Nah, but when I do, I kind of do.
I kind of got that personality in anything I do.
You got that addictive personality?
Oh yeah, f**ked.
That's probably why you're good at fighting at least.
You like fighting, right? I definitely. That's probably why you're good at fighting at least.
You like fighting, right?
I definitely like fighting.
I like the fight of fighting.
When did that start?
Since young.
I grew up in a big household so I was fighting around.
Eleven siblings, right?
Yeah.
That's insane.
It's unheard of these days.
I'm an islander, that's to my Samoan, with Samoan, so it's kind of normal.
It's normal out there, huh?
Yeah.
I'm an only child.
You're the only child?
Yeah.
Yeah.
How's that?
Honestly, it kind of sucked.
Yeah.
Kind of lonely.
I wish I had some siblings.
Sometimes you have too many.
Are you close with all of them?
Yeah, we're pretty close.
Yeah.
So it's good.
We're a tightening family.
Are any of them fighters too?
Uh, no.
So just you had that anger in you.
Oh, my brother, we definitely had it depending on which one.
And definitely has it.
My little brother actually is a boxer.
He's, he's still young.
He's only 14, but he's definitely, he's got it in him.
Okay.
So I think he's probably going to be the next one.
Did you start off with boxing or you went straight into mixed martial arts?
My dad was a boxer.
So, so we always trained boxing and stuff that, or to have to defend ourselves.
Yeah.
So you just grew up in the fight scene?
Oh, I wouldn't say in the fight scene, but I grew up fighting.
Yeah.
When did Dana make the call to you?
Dana.
She, I don't even think I ever talked to Dana back then.
Nah.
I don't even think I ever talked to Dana. Like back then, nah.
I, we had, uh, we had Mick Maynard.
He's an Aussie.
So he kind of looks after the Aussie fighters.
I think.
You got the call.
And then what was that first fight like?
Was it a big, big change for you?
I went through a very big change in my life at that time.
I went through a very big change in my life at that time.
I, uh, I was kind of mixed up in still what I was doing and which wasn't too much, and then I had to kind of figure out what I wanted to do.
And, uh, I found that I was having a kid and I had to make the choice.
Yeah.
So you had to go all in.
Yeah.
I went all in and then, uh, I had a fight and, uh, he snapped to get into the UFC.
So it was my title defense in Australia and he snapped my knee.
Holy crap.
So, and then I went to the UFC meeting and I signed a contract with a fuck knee and
they, uh, they asked me, could I fight in four weeks?
And I said, I don't think I could probably fight.
I said, I'll probably won't fight for a year.
So I was kind of hyped up.
I got signed and then it was a bit of a hype up.
I like Bam Bam from Australia signed.
He's, he's meant to be pretty good.
And then it kind of died off.
Cause I fucked my knee.
Damn.
So you never felt the same after that?
Oh, no, I still feel normal.
I just went for a very, very rough time.
So I had my knee surgery.
I snapped everything except the ACL.
Holy crap.
And then when I woke up from the surgery, I, uh, I could only feel one arm.
Jeez, you were paralyzed.
Well, yeah, I kind of lost feeling to my whole right arm for about six months.
Oh my God.
Was that supposed to happen?
Definitely not.
So they just messed up.
Yeah, I think they fucked up.
It was a public, it was a, I don't know.
Sounds like a lawsuit.
So yeah, that's crazy though.
I didn't know that happened to you.
Six months of no feeling in the arms.
And then at this time I was having,
I had my son.
So I was kind of fucked up there for a bit.
Yeah, crazy timing having a kid
while the worst injury you're-

Life's going on.
Yeah. And then when I signed the first
fight, I couldn't, my arm wasn't fully working.
Geez.
So I just kind of put my head down and said, I've got to, I've got to do this.
You went that float?
I did. Flying knee. Couldn't use got to, I've got to do this. So you went that far? I did.
Flying knee.
Couldn't use your arms.
You had to use your knees.
Yeah.
So it was, it was funny.
I went for a very rough time and then kind of, and once it was over, it
was kind of a big light.
So yeah.
How many fights did you win?
Like in a row after, after you got signed? Three or four.
Okay.
And then who was your first loss?
I headlined in Adelaide.
So I've headlined, I headlined the show in Australia, which was a really big thing
for me and I was my first headline.
Uh, and it was kind of like very early in my career, I kind of shot out real fast.
And that was against JDS.
And I just went out guns blazing and ended up, you got doused.
Nah, I ended up getting clipped.
Oh, and he dropped me.
And then next minute I remember I wake up, I just, my eyes open and he, I just
saw this elbow hit me in
the face and I was like, yeah, fuck.
Yeah, this doesn't look too good.
Was that your toughest opponent?
Oh, no, I wouldn't say toughest opponent.
There's definitely a big learning curve.
I'm still learning.
I'm still learning a lot in this sport.
I wouldn't class myself as a proper MMA athlete.
Yeah.
I'm kind of more just a bluer, a fighter.
Hmm.
What do you, what do you think is the separation there between you and like a professional?
I kind of don't like watch it or I'm into it as much as other people.
Hmm.
I just like the, the battle of it.
The mental battle or?
I don't know.
The whole thing, the, the getting in there and, and proving yourself.
I kind of like that bit more.
I don't know.
It's really weird.
So you're not as technical basically?
I wouldn't say, I wouldn't say not technical.
I just say wouldn't not as interested.
Interesting.
So you don't like watching like John Jones or?
I don't watch any fighting.
What? If I do watch any fighting. What?
If I do watch fighting, it's, uh, it's, it's gypsy fights and like bare knuckle.
I love, have you ever watched gypsy fights?
No, I've watched bare knuckle.
Have you ever watched gypsy call outs?
No, what's up?
Oh my gosh.
The gypsies on the streets are talking about?
So gypsies like Irish gypsies and like English gypsies and like they do call outs.
So they call people out on video.
It's fucking hilarious.
You gotta watch it.
I gotta watch that.
Once you watch one, you're going to just sit there and-
Rob the hole.
Yeah.
It's so funny.
I like bare knuckle though.
Bare knuckle is cool.
That's insane.
Kind of taking over a little bit.
Yeah.
They seem like they're riding the wave because no one's been able to
challenge the UFC, but they might be, they might be next.
Yeah.
I think it'd be hard to challenge the UFC.
They got a monopoly, right?
As a boss.
I think they were the first to market.
So they just have a big advantage.
I think Dan is very smart as well.
Yeah.
And the way he's moved.
What's, what's something you've learned from him?
Just watching him over the years.
Look at the UFC.
Look what he's done.
Um, yeah, not just that the UFC as a, as a whole is run to a tee.
Like everything's on time.
Fights are on time.
All the workers are always on point.
Yeah.
They run a tight ship over there.
You see he's getting into boxing now.
I see that.
Saudi Arabia.
I see that.
Crazy money out there.
Very crazy money.
You might have to get out there, man.
I'm definitely not saying no.
I want to get back in the gym and get focused on fighting and then get that out
of the way and see what's next.
You got any opponents this year you want to fight go after?
This year I'm going to sit out.
I'm going to train when I get back and get in shape.
I'm a bit fat at the moment.
Yeah.

Sta.com slash DSH definitely been enjoying my time off
obviously dropped
my company baby buds cannabis company here in America.
So I've been busy doing other things.
I just, the fighting I've been given a rest of, I've kind of been on a losing streak.
So it's just, I needed a reset.
Has that been tough on you mentally, the losing streak?
Fuck yeah.
Losing's always shit.
No one likes losing.
But I think it's how we dust ourselves off
and go back at it again.
Yeah, five losses straight, that's the longest for you.
Yeah, fuck.
It's crazy.
Yeah, I know.
Shit.
You had a lot of wins before that at least.
Yeah, fucking always up and down. That's life though.
Very life.
Very life.
It's rare to go undefeated these days as a fighter.
Yeah.
Only John Jones and Khabib recently.
There's a few.
I just, I don't think it's always been me.
I'm always a win or lose.
Sometimes win, sometimes lose.
Well with your weight class it's tough.
Yeah.
One punch is all it takes.
Definitely. That's definitely true. Sometimes win, sometimes lose. Well, with your weight class is tough. Yeah. One punch is all it takes.
Definitely.
That's definitely true.
And definitely I think the, the, the time off that I'm having right now is good because the weight class is pretty shit at the moment.
Oh yeah.
Well, that's what I think.
Who's the champ right now, the weight class?
Shit.
John Jones, isn't it?
Or Tom Aspin?
John Jones.
Alex Jones.
Yeah.
He's got one more fight, I think.
I think he, yeah, they're trying to fight Tom, but I don't know if it would have happened.
Who would you think, who do you think would win that?
I think if there's anyone to beat Jones, it would be Tom.
He's a lot younger.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Jones in his prime, I think, would destroy him.
But right now-
Anyone's ever beaten Jones?
Yeah.
He's got one foot out the door now.
He's getting up there an age
Hey, he's on his way out. That's full. You think he's the goat? Yeah
Yeah, I don't think it's close. Yeah, not fighting. He does some crazy shit outside the ring, but so do you
Everyone does some crazy shit. Everyone does their own thing. You Australians are wild, man.
Aussies are pretty wild.
Whenever I have Aussies on the pod,
they ask me, you come to the club tonight with us?
I'm like, hell no.
Yeah, you're not going out with the Aussies?
I don't party.
You don't party?
I don't.
You don't drink?
I drink a little bit, a couple of times a year.
I got hammered the other night playing darts.
So you do drink?
Yeah, a couple of times a year. Damn, you don't hammer down the other night playing darts. So you do drink? Yeah, a couple of times a year.
Damn, you're gonna hammer down the night.
Yeah, like.
Yeah, you're not going out with Ozzy's.
Nah, I wouldn't last.
Yeah, we're pretty crazy.
We love to party.
You do.
I wonder why.
You guys are just trapped on the island out there,
bored.
I don't know, actually.
It's kind of like a weird party weird, uh, like party culture.
I've been around the world and I've, I've partied around as well.
And it's like, yeah, Aussies are different.
Yeah.
You guys are different breed.
Where else has good parties though?
You've been around the world.
Yeah.
Shit.
Europe, Europe, European party.
Uh, Dubai is fun.
Dubai can party?
Yeah. Really? Dubai is cool. Dubai compadre? Yeah.
Really?
Dubai is cool.
I thought it was strict over there.
Uh, it has its rules, but there's also doesn't.
It's a lot of fun.
They definitely have the best venues.
Yeah.
They got money out there.
Oh yeah.
You got to spend some money though.
That's the only thing.
Were you fighting out there or you were just chilling?
I actually moved over there and stayed there while COVID hit in Australia, just because
the rules were a lot lenient there.
So I trained and that's where I kind of went on my run there for a little bit.
Okay.
How about to Dubai?
I got that out there, man.
I love Dubai.
Dubai is awesome.
You like Australia more than the US?
Oh, yeah, definitely. Really? I'm Australia more than the US? Oh yeah definitely.
Really?
I'm an Aussie but not even just that.
I've been eating some fat food the other day.
Fuck.
Bro the food here is not real food.
Nah it's all processed.
Bro it's not real food I don't know.

If anyone knows that, but the food here is not real.
I mean, there's a reason a lot of us are fat here.
Shit. I'm fat too, but it's just, we're very lucky as Australians and even New Zealand,
I think anywhere over that world side of the world, we've got such good produce.
It's a lot of meat, some Australian Wagyu.
That shit's good.
I can't wait to get home and cook me a steak.
Yeah, I prefer our Wagyu over there than most of the steak here.
Yeah. Well, I think the best meats around the world that are sold are from Australia anyway.
Are they?
I'd say so. In Dubai and stuff, you're paying fucking $400 for Australian steak.
Damn.
You can pay for 20 bucks down the pub.
Holy crap.
So that's probably one of your biggest exports for Australia.
I think it would be up there.
That's nuts.
I like New Zealand too.
I've been there.
New Zealand's beautiful.
Yeah, the food was great out there.
Beautiful food in New Zealand.
People out there were really nice too.
Very good. Australia's too hot for me, man. Too hot? Yeah. The food was great out there. Beautiful food in New Zealand. People out there were really nice too.
Very good.
Australia is too hot for me, man.
Too hot?
Yeah.
You live in Vegas?
I just moved here, but yeah. But you just moved here where you're from?
Jersey.
You been out there?
I was just there.
Really?
Bro, we got an Airbnb.
We were staying right in the hood.
Why would you do that?
No, I don't know.
You stayed in Newark? No, I... Yeah, yeah, yeah, bro. We turned in the hood. Why would you do that? I don't know. You stayed in Newark?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, bro.
We turned in the street.
These two girls were shaping up.
Oh my gosh.
We were laughing.
Why would you pick Newark?
Well, we actually got this spot in Manhattan.
We couldn't even open our bags.
So.
Couldn't open it?
It was too small.
It was so small.
Like they put like three rooms in this little thing.
And we had to get out.
I said, I'm taking it to the hood.
I'd rather, at least we've got some room.
Manhattan's expensive.
Manhattan was expensive.
Man.
I don't think I could live there.
I think the room in Newark for one night was as much as like like he could pay like three nights for one night.
Oh, easily.
Easily.
Yeah.
Jersey slept on though.
It's a good state.
Not Newark, but.
I definitely need to, I definitely need to go back and experience the.
Yeah.
That doesn't count as Jersey.
But my last experience was a bit.
People only go there to fly.
Fly out of it. fly out of the airport is
yeah yeah that's it though you're not there for any other reason I'll say that
too the neighborhoods in Australia any any are like that or they're all safe
over there oh no definitely depends where you go hmm where I grew up was
pretty pretty rough but that's home. Yeah. Um, definitely not like, uh, America.
We don't have the numbers.
We've got 28 million people of the whole country.
So yeah, there's some states where it's a, yeah, LA has got more.
So we're definitely a lot smaller.
Yeah.
You like LA.
I like LA, but it's kind of, it wouldn't, it's not really.
That's not, it's not really, it wouldn't be like my spot.
Yeah.
I don't know.
I think it's just a bit, a bit full on and a bit.
Yeah.
People care about social media there a lot.
People care about it?
Like their followers and their.
Oh yeah.
See, I wouldn't go, I don't know. I don't, I don't follow any of that shit. Yeah. They care about it. Like their followers and their. Oh yeah. See, I wouldn't go, I don't know.
I don't, I don't follow any of that shit.
Yeah.
They care about their look, their image.
Yeah.
I need to care about mine a bit too.
It's a really materialistic city though.
Yeah.
Is it supposed to be like that as well?
Is it?
Very.
Okay.
Yeah.
I thought Dubai was more about money and.
Well, that's the same shit.
Yeah.
Everyone's faking it probably.
Yeah.
There's a lot of that.
Yeah.
That's one of the downsides of social media, right?
I'd say so.
Seeing some people like that are really big on social media, but like, they
really ain't doing shit.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's usually most people with a big following, you know, they gotta
like make up for it somehow.
Yeah. It's unfortunate. Well, what else is next for you this year, man? most people with a big following, you know, they got to like make up for it somehow.
It's unfortunate.
Well, what else is next for you this year, man? You're not fighting, so you're just going to.
Well, I've been busy with this.
This has been a, this has been a bit of a long process, but, uh, still
learning a lot about the game.
Uh, really just a foot in to get started.
You know what I mean?
But, um, I've been spending time with my son, uh, family time.
But, um, when I get back, I'm going to get back into training and I want to
book a fight for next year.
I'll start early next year.
You want more kids?
Ooh, that's a good question.
Yeah.
I wouldn't mind more kids.
I think I just need to work more.
Yeah.
They're expensive, right?
Yeah.
I grew up in a big family, so it's kind of like, I know how it is.
Like, I want to be set up a little bit more.
Yeah.
Yeah, you grew up with 10, 11 siblings, so you got to catch up, man.
Let's see.
Oh, I don't think I'm going that hard.
But my brothers have got like four or five apiece.
Damn.
Trump just offered $5,000 if you have a kid out here now.
5k?
Yeah, today.
Shit, sign me up.
It goes to the woman though.
Oh, it goes to the woman.
Yeah.
So they get five grand a head now.
Cause we're losing numbers here.
We used to do, we had a baby bonus in Australia.
So it's kind of like a baby bonus.
Yeah.
Where's that?
Just in Vegas?
In America.
In America?
Yeah.
Cause our numbers are dropping.
We're not having enough sex.
So like we're, uh, more people are dying than are being born right now.
Why do you think they're no sex?
I don't know.
It's weird.
I've been fine, but yeah, other people, I guess.
Yeah.
I mean, I'm chilling.
That's good.
Other people though, they're not having kids.
Okay.
It's not sex. I think it's having kids. showing other people though. They're not having kids. Okay. It's not sex.
I think it's having kids.
People are having sex.
They're not having kids.
I think that's what it is.
So Americans are shooting blanks.
Shooting blanks or just wearing condoms.
I don't know.
People just don't want kids out here.
I don't know if Australia has that issue right now, but.
Oh, I haven't looked into that much.
Yeah.
It's concerning though.
Cause you can, uh, can't grow as a country if your numbers are going down.
True.
You know, you guys got to catch up to us.
You're at 28 million.
Yeah.
We're, we're, we're way behind.
300 million over here or something like that.
We're so far away and you can't kind of live in the middle of Australia.
You guys have some dangerous animals out there.
I always see these crazy videos.
Do you actually see those when you're out there?
Depends where you are.
Those poisonous animals.
Yeah.
We see snakes and stuff.
Yeah.
Like it depends where you live.
If you live in some, like one spot, you might have all of them.
Hmm.
Have you ever had an incident with one of those?
No.
That's okay. I keep my ass near the street lights. You have a box of them. Have you ever had an incident with one of those?
I keep my ass near the street lights. You have a box of kangaroo?
Hell no.
That looks fun, right?
That'll probably run my fat ass down
and jump on my back.
You could take one.
You could take a kangaroo.
I'll have a crack.
They got big, big nails though.
Yeah, those look sharp.
Big claws, things.
Damn.
When I went out there, I ate one of them. You ate a kangaroo? Yeah. You like it? Yeah, those look sharp. Big claws, things. Damn. When I went out there, I ate one of them.
You ate a K-Everu?
Yeah.
You like it?
Yeah, it's good.
Very tough.
I had it in a burger.
At the zoo.
At the zoo?
Yeah, right next to the zoo.
Yeah.
So the restaurant.
They're playing up.
Yeah, it was right next to the Melbourne Zoo.
Ate the burger, went to the zoo and pet a kangaroo there.
They had a little joey there.
It was cool.
This is kind of like the full circle.
Yeah, got to experience it on both sides.
You know?
My fiance was pissed though.
She wasn't happy.
There's so many of them over there.
You gotta eat them.
Yeah, they're kind of like pests.
That's what I heard. Well, they just fuck all the time.
So they're not, they're not, they're not, they're not running out.
There's more of them than people, right?
That's what I heard.
Now you got me.
Yeah.
You got a, can you hunt them there?
Is that legal?
She, I suppose so.
Okay.
You're not a hunter.
No, I told you I'm standing in the street lights.
Man, hunting's big out here.
Yeah, hunting is big.
Hunting is big in Australia as well.
It's just kind of normal thing.
Yeah.
You just stay in your land.
Yeah.
What's the craziest activity like you've done like skydiving?
What's the craziest activity like you've done like skydiving? What's the craziest activity?
Shit now, I can't skydive.
Why?
I'm too fat.
Is that a rule?
Unfortunately, yes.
I didn't know that.
So I went to ask one time and they go, yeah, it's a, it's 120 is the cutoff limit.
And they go, but you can go by, you can jump by yourself.
Screw that.
So I kind of, I don't know how I feel jumping the first time.
No, not by yourself.
By myself.
That's sketchy.
120, that's kilograms, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
We use pounds here.
So that's 265.
265. 265.
Damn, I got friends that weigh more than that.
Oh, so do I.
What's the lowest you've been in your adult years?
Oh, one, it's when I fight is that's when I'm at my lowest.
Damn, you're in the hundreds when you're fighting?
I have to cut to fight to have it right here.
Wow. Always. Geez. So you're like the hundreds when you're fighting? I have to cut to fight the heavyweight, yeah. Wow. Always.
Geez, so you're like way over right now then.
Oh yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I'm heavy, heavyweight.
Patty the Batty, baby.
That dude looks fat off season.
He puts the beef on.
Yeah.
And he gets back to fight shape.
Gets the job done.
Man, how good did he do? I didn't think he was going to win. I'm not going to lie.
You thought Chandler was going to win?
I don't know. Chandler's kind of like a G-Up.
Yeah. I wanted Chandler.
I always, I always like think I'll go for him because he just, he always looks,
he's like a fucking machine, but I don't know. He doesn't, fucking Patty did well.
Patty looked good, bro. He's on a good streak right now.
Very good.
I don't think he's lost in years.
I wouldn't know.
Off season, he's just, he looks like a dad bod.
And then he-
Yeah, I like that.
It's more like relatable.
Yeah.
That's why people like him.
He enjoys himself.
We're normal people.
Yeah.
I get it, sometimes I might have put a bit too much weight on like as normal
professionals, but like over normal people, like people have normal lives as well.
100%.
Do people try to test you outside of the ring?
Are the bars or anything?
No, not any.
You're too nice.
Oh yeah.
I'm a, I'm easy to get along with.
I'm, and if I feel a type of way, I'll just say it.
Yeah.
Like if someone's rude or something, I'd say, Hey, you'll call them out.
Oh yeah.
I'll still slap.
I still slap someone if they fucking play out.
Yeah.
I'm still a man.
Like you shouldn't disrespect, if someone is disrespectful.
Yeah.
You'll pull out a Conor McGregor slap.
No, I don't know. I don't know what that slap is, but disrespectful, yeah. You'll pull out a Conor McGregor slap? No, I don't know.
I don't know what that slap is, but no, I just, you got to set the, set the straight sometimes.
Yeah.
You get in a lot of fights outside, outside the ring or?
No way.
No, no, not any, no way.
That's good.
Not since I was a kid.
Oh shit.
Well, that's probably smart because people want to go after you legally and stuff.
I bet.
Yeah, probably.
See you as a target.
I don't know.
As a kid, you got in a lot though?
I had a few fights here.
That's common with fighters though.
Yeah.
Kind of starts somewhere, right?
Something like that.
Were you getting picked on or what happened?
Um, no, I just think probably where I think just where I was, where I was from
and where I grew up, it's kind of, I don't know what you did.
Yeah.
When did the Shoei celebration start?
Oh, my boys were doing the Shoei way, way before me.
Really?
Yeah.
It's been around for a long time.
and Shuey way, way before me. Really?
Yeah, it's been around for a long time.
I think for me, it was more like a bit of a marketing stint
plus the fastest way to get some alcohol into me.
It worked well.
Worked very well.
You came known for it.
Yeah, it definitely worked out well.
You were the first fighter I saw do it in the UFC.
Yeah. I don't remember anyone else doing that. No, I think I was definitely you were the first fighter I saw do it in the UFC. Yeah.
I don't remember anyone else doing that.
No, I think I was definitely one of the first.
Yeah.
But like, again, it's, it's, it was never like a my thing. It was, it's kind of like in Australia, people doing them just randomly.
Aussies bro.
We're fucking weirdos.
To me, that shit's nasty, bro.
Someone's wearing their fucking shoe.
Oh yeah. You are. I remember doing some back in the day,
like just few few months in the hole,
like the whole club spinning in it.
Oh my God.
I don't know why.
Dude, you're what?
Now I'm older, you think back and you're just like,
what the hell?
Yeah, now you're using new shoes, right?
Not necessarily.
Yeah, you use, I saw you did something
with the Nelk Boys, right? Yeah, the Nelk boys. Yeah, no was happy dad
Yeah, yeah, that was actually probably the most famous one. Yeah, that one got millions of views. Yeah, that was cool
I hope to see you do it again one day man. I fucking hope so too, but I really do you got a witness next one
I will I will I'm definitely uh, it's time. I've been good for me. I think I needed it. That's good, man
