Starting point is 00:00:01 This is exactly right. Double Elvis. When a group of women discover they've all dated the same prolific con artist, they take matters into their own hands. I vowed. I will be his last target. He is not going to get away with this. He's going to get what he deserves. We always say that trust your girlfriends. Listen to the girlfriends.
Starting point is 00:00:35 Trust me, babe. On the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Your husband is not who you think he is. Your body is not what you thought it was. Your identity is formed by a secret history. I'm Danny Shapiro. And these are just a few of the stunning stories I'll be exploring the 14th season of Family Secrets.
Starting point is 00:01:00 He kind of shoved me out of the way and said, move. And he went out the front door and he jumped in a car and drove off. And that was the last time I saw him. Listen to Season 14 of Family Secrets, starting May 7th, on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This season on Dear Chelsea, with me, Chelsea Handler, we have some fantastic guests like Amelia Clark.
Starting point is 00:01:22 When, like, young people come up to me and they want to be an actor or whatever. My first thing is always, can you think of anything else that you can do? You'd rather be disappointed in. Do that. David O'Yello. I love this podcast, whether it's therapy or relationships or religion or sex or addiction or you just go straight for the guts. Dennis Leary, Gaten Matarazzo from Stranger Things,
Starting point is 00:01:48 Tana Monsu, Camilla Morone, Carrie Kenny Silver, and more. Listen to these episodes of Dear Chelsea on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey guys, thanks for checking out this bonus episode. Before we get into it, I wanted to fill you in on all the great content
Starting point is 00:02:06 we've got for you this week. Here in Disgraceland, we just released a brand new episode on Michael Hutchins of In Excess. And tomorrow we're releasing a rewind episode from our archive on Jennifer Hudson. Over in the Badlands Feed, you can check out a new episode on The Mysterious Death of Thelma Todd, aka the Ice Cream Blonde, one of the great comedians from the 1920s and 30s. All right, let's get into it, shall we?
Starting point is 00:02:32 Hey, Discos. Need a little more disgrace land in your life? Just a touch to get you through? Yeah, me too. This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome to Disgraceland, the After Party. Welcome to the disgrace land bonus episode. A little thing we like to call the after party.
Starting point is 00:03:04 This is the show after the show, the party, after the party, the bridge to get you from one full episode of disgrace land to the other, the backyard to dig into the dirt. On this episode, we are talking about our new full episode on Michael Hutchins of In Excess, this week's rewind episode on Jennifer Hudson. And of course, your voicemails, your texts, your DMs, and more. and as always a whole lot of rosy. Let's get into it. All right, everybody, welcome to the after party this week in disgrace. We've got a brand new episode on Michael Hutchins. Uneniably, one of the greatest rock and roll frontmen of all time. Even if you don't like the band, objectively, you just got to look at the guy, hear his voice, and put two and two together, and be like, this dude is a lead singer.
Starting point is 00:03:58 And of course, he was the lead singer for In Excess. An incredible band, just a great, great band. not only could they play, they had hits and attitude, that fucking weird Australian thing that it's hard for me to put my finger on as an American, but that I've always gravitated toward in bands like not only in excess, but ACDC, even men at work. You know, in excess, they cut their teeth in this lawless Australian pub circuit of the 1970s and 80s before becoming one of the biggest bands in the world, the band that made the seven times platinum album, kick. Incredible album. An album that had megawatt singles,
Starting point is 00:04:38 Nid You Tonight, New Sensation, Devil Inside, Never Tear Us Apart, Mystify. And despite all these hits, I talked about this, obviously in the episode, I talked about it on Instagram this week. Despite all these hits, the record label didn't want to release the album. They said they did not hear a hit, and they didn't want to release the album. So they were so strong. in their opinion of not releasing this and how shitty they thought the record was that they offered the band a million dollars to destroy it and not release it. It's just crazy. I clearly can't get over this story. That's why I'm talking about it again here. If you want to hear all the details, so you've got to check out the full episode. I wanted to tell this story of Michael
Starting point is 00:05:19 Hutchins for a while. You guys been asking me to tell this story to you guys for a while. It was one that I was hesitant to get into because of all the rumors surrounding his death and the way he died and I didn't want it to feel tabloidy in any way. And the team here at double Elvis, Zeth Lundy in particular, who wrote this episode, really crushed it. And the response from you guys has been great. Thank you so much for writing in. Hit me up on Instagram. Letting me know what you thought of the episode. It means a lot to us. Again, like I said, we waited. We took our time with this one. Wanted to make sure we got it right. It's an incredibly tragic story, one that ends with one of the most magnetic and charismatic rock stars taking his own life.
Starting point is 00:06:02 And that's a fucking bum out. And it's oftentimes hard to figure out how to tell these stories in a way that isn't going to bum all of you out, to be perfectly honest. You're going to add into that mix into this story. You know, all the events, like I mentioned a couple seconds ago, that led up to his death, the violent events that left damage, lasting damage, and these fucking rumors that just continue to, to circle about how he died. It's a lot to process, but I think we did Michael Justice here.
Starting point is 00:06:35 Michael Hutchinson's some justice here with this episode with how we approached the story. But like I said, I want to hear from you. I've heard from a bunch of you already. I want to hear from the rest of you. What did you think of this episode? Let me know. Also, let's talk about Inexcesses music, all right?
Starting point is 00:06:50 It's incredible. Just great music. Great music. What's your favorite song? What's your favorite record? Is it Need You Tonight? Is Kick your favorite album? I mean, it's hard to, what else would be, what competes with Kick?
Starting point is 00:07:03 I don't know. Convince me. Convince me that there's a better in excess album than Kick. Okay, that's in excess. That's in your feeds right now. Tomorrow, continuing on this tragedy thread, we've got a rewind release from our archive, a previously exclusive episode that we did on Jennifer Hudson, one-time American Idol contestant in 2004,
Starting point is 00:07:24 co-star with Beyonce and the movie Dreamgirls in 2006. and in 2008, Jennifer Hudson's mother and her brother were found murdered in their Chicago home. And the smallest member of the Hudson family was declared missing. This story for the true crime heads, it is fucked up, completely tragic. And another one that we try to approach with some sensitivity and originality. And I hope that comes through in this episode. Like I said, it was previously exclusive. Most of you probably have not heard.
Starting point is 00:07:57 this episode before. It was in our archive. It's coming out into the world again. It'll be here Friday this week. Check it out. So to recap, that's a brand new episode on Michael Hutchins of in excess, plus a rewind episode on Jennifer Hudson, all in your disgrace land feeds this week. 617-90666-6638 voicemail, old school, new school text, 617-9066666363-38 at disgrace land pod on the socials. Let me know what you're thinking about in excess, the episode, the band, the music, whatever you want to get into. Disgracelandpot at gmail.com on the email. And let's check out this email from Davis Montour. Subject says Mark Lannigan. Hey, Jake, huge fan of all things, Double Elvis. Ever thought about a disgrace land on Mark Lannigan? He's kind
Starting point is 00:08:45 of a forgotten voice of the Pacific Northwest. But his story and his music, solo, various bands and collabs are amazing. Thanks to you and everyone who works on the shows, keep him coming and I'll be listening. Rockarola. Davis, great suggestion. Yeah, Mark Lannigan was, I was actually thinking about him this morning. I was on Instagram and I saw someone post this thing about Queens of the Stone Age and I forgot that Lannigan was involved with Queens early on and a friend of those guys. And I've heard that his book is incredible. And the last thing, I've always liked Mark Lannigan, to your point, about how good he was of an artist of a singer, great singer, just great singer.
Starting point is 00:09:23 For those who don't know who I'm talking about, I'm talking about Mark Lattigan from Screaming Trees, he went on to have a solo career. He died in the last couple of years. Last I saw of him, he was on Anthony Bourdain show, and you could tell something was up. You could tell that he was in some sort of pain and not the physical kind,
Starting point is 00:09:43 perhaps physical and emotional, but definitely emotional. At least that was my sense when I watched it. I wasn't surprised when he passed away. a couple of years after that sad story and no doubt davis one that we will be getting into at some point so thanks for the email brother david sinrich writes in subject john denver question mark question mark message says i'm a disgrace and fan about a year ago or more heard the excellent john denver april fools day episode fantastic is it no longer available to be heard and if so why thanks for any
Starting point is 00:10:14 info and if there is still some possibility of my hearing it again please let me know. Thanks for the great podcast. Well, David, I can't really talk about it. Let's just say I was contacted myself by some very powerful people in the government, shady, shady agency. No, I'm kidding. I was not. Yeah, that one, we just, it's part of the, like the Jennifer Hudson episode that's coming out on Friday. It was swept up in the exclusive episodes and it's in the archive. It will be re-released at some point soon. Okay. We're trying to get everything out. as quickly as we can. We're almost there.
Starting point is 00:10:51 I would say 95% of all of our episodes are available everywhere. The Jennifer Hudson one and the John Denver one are two of the last ones in the archive, but they are coming soon. This from Kip Gasparic. I hope I'm saying that right. Gip Gasparek. Subject U-turn turntable message. I'm adding a few new t-shirts to my closet this evening, and I stumbled upon the U-turn
Starting point is 00:11:14 turntable, and I'm wondering if the contest is still open. Kip. No, man. It's not open. It's been closed for years. Those of you don't know what Kipp's talking about. We did a collaboration. We did this great merch item for this U-turn.
Starting point is 00:11:29 They make record players, this turntable that we did with them, a disgrace land turntable. And this was like five years ago, right when we started the podcast, Kip. But no, we're not. But we are. I'm reading your email now, even though this email is from November 10, 2023. because we are, we do have some new merch, some basics, we are restocking here in the next couple weeks, and then we've got some new exclusive stuff coming early next year, early next
Starting point is 00:12:01 year, all right? Lots of new merch stuff in the works and not just like t-shirts and pins, although that stuff's cool. We're doing, I'm doing some extra, putting my backbone into it here in 2024. I'm going to get you guys some amazing. Amazing disgrace land swag items, merch. I don't know what to call it. You can't wear some of these things. That's what I'm getting at. More on that later.
Starting point is 00:12:26 Discracelandpod at gmail.com for all your burning questions. Hit me up. 617-9066638 voicemail and text at Discracelam pod on the socials. Back in a minute with your voicemails. There's two golden rules that any man should live by. Rule one, never mess with a country girl. You play stupid games, you get stupid prizes. And Rule 2, never mess with her friends either.
Starting point is 00:13:08 We always say that trust your girlfriends. I'm Anna Sinfield, and in this new season of the girlfriends... Oh my God, this is the same man. A group of women discover they've all dated the same prolific con artist. I felt like I got hit by a truck. I thought, how could this happen to me? The cops didn't seem to care. So they take matters into their own hands.
Starting point is 00:13:31 I said, oh, hell no. I vowed. I will be his last target. He's going to get what he deserves. Listen to the girlfriends. Trust me, babe. On the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:13:52 Remember when you'd walk into your local video rental place and there were always those two employees behind the counter arguing about movies? Well, that's us. I'm Millie de Cherokee. And I'm Casey O'Brien. And now we're arguing about movies on our podcast, Dear Movies I Love You, from the exactly right now.
Starting point is 00:14:08 network. Can I say something about the Criterion Clause? Go ahead, dude. They're letting too many people in there. Okay, that's another film, grape I got two. Sadly, that rental place doesn't exist anymore. It's probably a store that sells running shoes. Or an ice cream shop with an extra pee and an E at the end. So consider us your slacker movie clerks in podcast form. I would like to establish a timeline of the moment you figured out who Channing Tatum was. Every Tuesday, we dig into the news. movies we can't stop obsessing over, from hidden gems to big screen favorites. New episodes drop every week on the exactly right network. Listen to Dear Movies I Love You on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your
Starting point is 00:14:51 podcasts. I'm Kate Winkler Dawson, host of the Wicked Words podcast. Each week I sit down with the true crime writers behind some of the most compelling true crime stories and discuss their years spent investigating and why it still matters. He sees his father coming out of the woods with his hands over his face, and he knows something happened. His father just grabs him and says she's gone. She's gone. These are the cases that leave survivors, families, and the journalists who cover them changed forever. Working in national television, it'll push you to your limits, and you'll end up doing things you never thought you'd do.
Starting point is 00:15:34 You know, you look back at it and you're like, I can't believe that really happened. Join me and step inside the investigation. New episodes drop every Monday on the Exactly Right Network. Listen to Wicked Words on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. All right, we are back. Let's check out some voicemail. 617-90666-3638. You want to call in?
Starting point is 00:16:10 You want to hit me up with any question, any suggestion, any recommendation? You just want to say, hey, whatever, I'm here. 617-9066638. Let's check out this voicemail from the 335. Hey, Jake. My name's Joe. Love the show. I've been listening probably since he started.
Starting point is 00:16:29 But anyway, my suggestion for a band to cover the Pash Mode. As a band, they at least incited, or they didn't themselves started, but there was a riot for the
Starting point is 00:16:44 violator album signing in Los Angeles. They sold out the road bowl but more the feedier stuff is just look at the singer Dave Gahan kind of got really bad in the heroin and I think died at least once, possibly twice. I think it would be good fodder for the episode
Starting point is 00:17:05 and I'd love to hear your take on. But take care, man. Bye-bye. All right. I don't know if you guys could hear that there in the beginning of Joe's voicemail, but he's talking about Depeche mode. And this has come up recently, I think because we did that new order episode. A lot of people have requested
Starting point is 00:17:20 Depeche Mode. And frankly, Depeche Mode is one of these bands that I've always liked. I remember Personal Jesus. I had that video on. It was on MTV. It was this playing. My living room when I was a kid. And my mom walked in and she lost her fucking shit. I don't know what it was about that video. Something about personal Jesus. My mom's religious, but she's not that religious. I think she was just having a bad day. I don't know. But anyways, I'm totally interested in doing a Depeche Mode episode here, especially because you know, you've probably all seen this. There's that sort of baby Depeche Mode video going around on the internet when they're
Starting point is 00:17:56 super young and cute and they look nothing like the heathens they eventually turn into. And this information that Joe sent us here about the riot inciting a riot for the signing of their violator album in Los Angeles, that's pretty interesting. So we shall check that out. Love the suggestion, Joe. All right, let's check out this voicemail from the 540. Jake, my boy, I went down to my wife's family. They live in North Carolina.
Starting point is 00:18:28 Actually, they live in Welcome, North Carolina, which is the home of Richard Childress Racing, which was the former home of Dale Earnhardt. Thank you. But went down there to see my father-in-law, who in the 70s and 80s was an Elvis impersonator. But anyway, no, listen to a bunch of rock and a bunch of punk. and then when we got to where we were going, I had to listen to a bunch of a new country. Oh, Lord. But anyway, it's all good.
Starting point is 00:18:57 Had a great Thanksgiving. Hope y'all did, too. Doses. 540, you know it. Had a great Thanksgiving. Happy that you did as well. Sounds like you had a good one despite the new country you had to sit through.
Starting point is 00:19:09 I'm playing this voicemail because, you know, we just get this recommendation for Depeche Mode. And then, you know, our guy here from the 540 calls in and he's talking about Dale Earnhardt and NASCAR racing and North Carolina and Elvis impersonators. And I just want to say, you know, I'm fucking grateful that we have the audience that we have, that you guys are into so much different stuff.
Starting point is 00:19:32 Such a varied audience just makes me pumped. My interests clearly are varied. They're not just about music. And 5-40, I'm not sure you know this or not, but I've become a big NASCAR fan over the last two years. I went to my first Daytona 500 last year. this year, this February, this past February. I'm going again in a couple months.
Starting point is 00:19:54 And I've actually, I made the pilgrimage to Moresville, North Carolina, a couple months ago, to visit Dale Earnhardt's garage Mahal. But yeah, huge Earnhardt fan, huge Elvis fan, even the impersonators. And I like some new country. I like some new country. I'm not afraid to say it. I don't like a lot of new country, though, as well. Like, it sounds like you're in the same boat there.
Starting point is 00:20:18 All right, 617. 906-66-36-38 hit me with your voicemails let's check out this one let's do one more here from uh the 317 so if you're keeping score i went blind in 2000 way before that occasion sometimes i do get excited all right diesel you got it man yeah i'm thinking about a way to essentially make this voicemail and texting thing more efficient um i don't know that i said i was going to change it completely or do away with it i think there'll always be some version of it in the voice I'm sorry, in the after party here that we do with voicemails and text. But the issue, Diesel, is that there's just too much of it.
Starting point is 00:22:17 And it's something that I can tell you guys really like. And I'm trying to find a way to engage more with the voicemails in the text. Not less. So don't worry. And appreciate the listening. Appreciate the engagement. Appreciate you calling in. Thank you so much.
Starting point is 00:22:34 And stoked that you loved the Wu-Tang stuff. All right, let's check out this voicemail from the... the 303. Hey, Jake. This is Anne, Redhead One from Instagram, your girl from New York, the Scorsese-B-York connection. Calling in for a couple of reasons. First of all, I've never shared a little bit about me. I am a voiceover artist, actor, and I have a studio in my house, and I now live out in Boulder, Colorado. But, you know, you had asked for background on people, and And that's what I do. I get to listen to you whenever I want because my schedule is my own.
Starting point is 00:23:14 And I chalk pretty into the mic just like you do. Anyway, hope you're doing well. Have a happy Thanksgiving. And rock a roller best. Bye. Hey, Ann, great to hear from you. Thanks for calling in. Thanks for leaving the voicemail.
Starting point is 00:23:27 I remember that amazing story you told us a couple months ago about your time in New York. Great to meet you, guys. Be like Anne. Be like red-headed Anne from Instagram. from New York, now in Colorado. Give me a shout, 617-90666-6-6-3-8. Let me know what you do. Let me know a little bit about you.
Starting point is 00:23:46 I talk about me all the time, and frankly, it's boring. I want to know more about you guys. 6-17-90-66-66-3-8, and it's great to hear you, great to hear what you're up to. I had no idea that you were a voiceover artist, so we've got something in common.
Starting point is 00:23:59 Guys, 617-906-66-3-8. Hit me up. Let me know what you do, what you're up to, when you listen to Disgraceland, et cetera. I'm going to do some text in a minute. Take a quick break here, back in a flash. There's two golden rules that any man should live by. Rule one, never mess with a country girl.
Starting point is 00:24:29 You play stupid games, you get stupid prizes. And rule two, never mess with her friends either. We always say that trust your girlfriends. Starting point is 00:25:09 Trust me, babe. On the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Remember when you'd walk into your local video rental place and there were always those two employees behind the counter arguing about movies? Well, that's us. I'm Millie de Cherico. And I'm Casey O'Brien.
Starting point is 00:25:31 And now we're arguing about movies on our podcast, Dear Movies I Love You, from the Exactly Right Network. Can I say something about the criterion closet? Go ahead, dude. Starting point is 00:27:19 All right, guys, 617-9066638. We are back. just did some voicemails. Let's do some text messages here from you guys. Got a lot of text. 864 writes in, all excited. Jake, all caps.
Starting point is 00:27:42 It's Elaine. Laney is the link for real? Can we order merch now? I've been off for a while and I have to catch up. I believe the link is real, guys. I might be jumping the shark here. Not jumping the shark. Jump in the gun.
Starting point is 00:27:55 I don't know that I'm supposed to announce that. Yes. I've got another text here from the 937. Is this actually your merch? hoodie, t-shirt, mug, and many more exclusive collections. The best deals of the season are happening. Order now. Well, Jesus, I really don't know.
Starting point is 00:28:13 There's a link here. Let me check this out. Let me see. Paging Brady Sadler. The Disgraceland podcast. Black hoodie. Blue shirt. White mug.
Starting point is 00:28:26 Green long sleeve. This is not our fucking merch. This is, don't buy this shit, people. This is, uh, damn, paging Brady Sadler from double Elvis. Let's get on this. And, uh, Brady, I'm texting this to you now. Let's put a stop to this bullshit.
Starting point is 00:28:46 But guys, I'm confused because we do have a new line of merch that's coming, uh, very shortly, like I mentioned earlier. So, uh, don't buy this garbage. Just hang on. We'll have a link on our website. I'll get on Instagram. I'll start talking about it today as well, let you guys know what's up. I'll provide a link.
Starting point is 00:29:01 Hey Jake, Sarah from Wisconsin, one of my favorite traditions to do during Thanksgiving is to watch all the Thanksgiving episodes of Friends, all the Thanksgiving episodes of Will and Grace, and then watch Home for the Holidays, one of the best Turkey Day theme movie ever. Love all you do. Keep up the amazing work. Sarah, you have that 90s gene that I have, I can tell. Home for the Holidays, I missed it. I love that movie as well. I love it, Sarah.
Starting point is 00:29:27 And I missed, I did not watch it over the Thanksgiving break. But you know what? I'm going to. 651 writes in one sure far away to make responses even less manageable. Ask people to tell you what they think of Chris Brown. Yeah, you're right. You're right. You're right.
Starting point is 00:29:42 I'm kind of ignoring them all just because I just don't feel like talking about Chris Brown. So there you go. 505 writes in. Just give you a little background here. The 505 and myself had this little text going on about where the disgrace land subject matter is going. and the Badlands subjects as well. And one of the ideas we've been playing with over here at Double Elvis is, do we combine the two feeds and just sort of like, you know, forget the fact that we're talking about
Starting point is 00:30:12 music in disgrace land and actors and actresses in Badlands and sometimes athletes? And, you know, I have so many different interests. Music is always my primary interest in my first love. But I'm wondering, we're wondering, and this is what I was talking about here, with the 505 and the text thread is do we just combine everything into the disgrace land under the disgrace land moniker and one feed keep it mainly music because like I said that's my first love and just you know what if I want to do an episode on Andy Warhol you know where do I do that you know he wasn't an actor he wasn't a musician but he's part of that world what if I want to do
Starting point is 00:30:51 an episode on on William S. Burroughs or or Michael Jordan you know Michael Jordan has you might be like Michael Jordan, what the fuck does he have to do with Andy Warhol or Maltly Crew or Nirvana or John Lennon? Well, I mean, Michael Jordan is one of the most compelling, interesting, single-minded, focused personalities in the history of the world. And there's some dark stories connected to Michael Jordan that I'd like to explore. So I'm wondering, do I just kind of throw it all in one feed, make it easier for us? And anyways, that's what I was talking about here with the 505 who wrote in. I think that would be an excellent combination. I love everything you do.
Starting point is 00:31:30 So if I could find it all in one place, that would be fine. And then she writes, Jake, listen to Life is Beautiful. I just heard the caller that wants that as her funeral song, and he said you never heard it. It's so good. Don't stress about getting back to me. I totally know you have so many people to interact with Val. Val, I do stress about getting back to you. I hope you heard the message.
Starting point is 00:31:49 Guys, let me know what you think about combining the feeds. Not just combining the feeds, but just broadening out what we do. a little bit more, making it a little less specifically about music. And of course, we're always going to, we're always going to showcase the new orders of the world and the blondies of the world. But, you know, what if I want to do an episode on Picasso? What if I want to do an episode on, shit, man, I don't know. Name it. You guys have so many great suggestions. There's so many great personalities, icons in this world, and so many dark stories connected to them. And that's always been what has interested me is the darkness around these folks, especially when there doesn't
Starting point is 00:32:27 appear to be any and there always is that's the stuff I've always gravitated toward in history and reading on my own and in reading vanity fair and rolling stone as a kid it was always those weird little items those dark stories and those weird little items john lennon sitting at the breakfast table watching barbara walters on tv you know stuff like that like you know frank sinatra hooking maryl Monroe up at his house with john f kennedy in palm springs these weird anecdotal stories, shining a light on those stories, whether it's a musician, whether it's an actor, whether it's an artist, whether it's an athlete. Maybe we just do it all in one place. I don't know. That's what we're talking about. That's what we're considering. Let me know what you guys think.
Starting point is 00:33:11 617-906-66-3638. 613 writes in, PJ Harvey's new album is definitely something to check out. And, you know, I haven't checked it out yet, which is a cry and shame. I love PJ Harvey, so I'm going to get into that. Thank you for bringing it to my attention, 613. 415 writes in, hey, Jake, love your podcast. I listen to Disgraceland in addition to Badlands, and I used to listen to the 27 Club, but that seems to have stopped for some unknown reason.
Starting point is 00:33:39 Well, here you go. We didn't necessarily stop making the 27 Club. We just stopped releasing it. We've got a whole other season done and plans for another. Not sure what we're going to do with it. it's this goes back to the last thing i was talking about here it's you know most podcasters have uh one main podcast disgrace land perhaps a second i know uh georgia and karen from my favorite murder they they fucking around with some other pods uh ashley flowers uh has the deck on top of
Starting point is 00:34:13 of crime junkie and you know i've got bad lans i had 27 club and it just became too much it's too too too too much. It's not like it's too much to do. I mean, it is a lot to do. Don't get me wrong, but we've got a fucking factory over here at Double Elvis and some really hard working folks who bust ass and love making this stuff. That's not what I mean. The hard part is releasing multiple shows with one host, me, and still being able to reach a wide group of people. At a certain point, you start to kind of cannibalize yourself. So what we're trying to to think about here as we consider these these challenges we have how do I engage with you guys more often how do we sort of do we combine the subjects but the other thing is how do we find a place
Starting point is 00:35:05 where I can do these special one-off projects like if I want to do just one season of 27 club a year how do I do that and release it to you in a way where you're going to actually get it and I can I can make sure that the effort we put into it is worth the return so we're trying to figure that out as well. Thank you for prompting this 415. Appreciate the message. Christmas is coming up. You know, what do you guys want? Let me know. I want to know what you guys want for me for Christmas. All right. 617-9066638 505 writes in, who am I? Just another dad. Used to be cool. Played in bands, bass, road scooters and motorcycles, lots of pun-based tattoos. Still obsessed with music. Bringing my youngest to see his first concert tomorrow. Royal Blood.
Starting point is 00:35:50 I've seen Royal Blood. They're great. Discovering music used to be so much more involved from being a kid when you basically had to be recommended something or sign up for Columbia House to spending hours at used record stores listening to everything that looked interesting. Anyway, love the podcast. Thanks for making so much great content. Always love the recommendations part, which reminds me of Kronk from the Emperor's New Groove. Actually love hearing all the titles from the presets on the synth too.
Starting point is 00:36:12 And damn it, I love hearing about all these musicians behaving badly. Keep up the good work. You got it 505. Appreciate you. 617-90666-66-3-8. Let me know what you guys want for me in the new year. What do you want for Christmas from yours truly? Text, voicemail, back in a flash.
Starting point is 00:36:30 All right, we are back, and this is the recommendations part, the part where we recommend the things that we are listening to here in disgrace land. I'm just going to read to you guys. I like doing this. Some of my Spotify listening history. This one, these are just a bunch of songs that I've been listening to over the last two three weeks by some artists that are either new to me completely or artists that I've always wanted to sort of dive deeper, delve deeper into, excuse me, the cactus blossoms. I'm not sure
Starting point is 00:37:19 if you know this band, Travelers Paradise. It's a great song that I've been digging on lately. Mulberry Jam by Al-Laz. Never heard of this band before. Just one of these things I randomly found on Spotify. Listening to James Gang Rides Again album, that's Joe Walsh's band before he was. was sort of Joe Walsh, the huge solo star and the guy on the Eagles. J.J. Kale, we talked about him a couple weeks ago. Great song called Hey Baby that I've been digging. What's his name? Jeff Tweedy from Wilco. He did that thing, Loose Fur, that album. I don't know if you guys know that. There's a song, The Ruling Class, which is just incredible. So that's some of the more recent stuff that I've been digging on. It was Thanksgiving. I watched part of the last waltz. Not all
Starting point is 00:38:04 the last waltz, but part of it. I know some of you guys. guys did too. A lot of you hit me up on, on Instagram to talk about it. And we've got this story we're working on that's connected to the last waltz, connected to Bob Dylan, connected to Martin Scorsese that I'm really excited about. I almost got into it. I almost did a deep dive on Instagram the other day in stories, but I did not. We're saving this one. I think I'm going to release it next year, maybe try to tie it towards later in the year, towards the Thanksgiving holiday. But let me know what you guys are listening to, 617-906-66. six, three, eight. I'm hitting, I'm not quite there yet, but I'm coming up against that,
Starting point is 00:38:42 you know, we all do this. We all hit these little lulls where we're like, I'm sick of everything I'm listening to, which is shocking that that still happens. Used to happen before we had the internet, you know, before we had streaming music. But it's shocking to me that like even the stuff, the new stuff I just mentioned to you, I've been listening to it over and over again. And my point is I'm coming up on one of these little lulls where I'm going to need some inspiration from you guys. So let me know what you. you're listening to 617-90666-6638. Disgrace Lamppod on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook X.
