Peniston in the house tonight. C.C. Jam from September 21st, 1991. Anybody that grew up in the 90s, this is a bit of a soundtrack of your youth right here. You remember this.

This whole vibe was a fucking vibe. solid vibe. Early 90s vibe all day. Yeah. There's something about that, like, dance music that they had in the early 90s.

They never quite were able to recapture, even though it's been tried many of times. Nobody's ever really been able to, unsuccessful. Like, really get that sound back.

And you know one thing that they don't do that, I don't hear it in this song, but that early 90s, like, there's a lot of vocals where they kind of have an echoy sound in like the studio that, yeah, and they do lyrics and they say,

what? What? Yeah, we in the building And we do it tight We gonna do it like all good night That's a little too much echo to be honest But like they used to just have like a sound That you just you know what you hear

SWV used to do it a lot That's not it though No it's too much echo It was a sparse mouth It used to literally just sound like there's a little bit of echo in the booth And I love that sound And that's a little bit of what I'm talking about

But not necessarily and finally But this is more of that kind of like dance track vibe that you'd hear in like an aerobics class i took a hip hop class when i was in elementary school this was definitely be played in that one you know we'd be doing a runnin and shit oh yeah yeah we're doing the windmill there was a windmill move that he used to do i don't even remember exactly how it was either yeah you know there's not so much i could say about the song but there's so much i could say it's it's this is one of those weird songs where and when i first started djane i thought i can play and everybody's gonna dance to you're not not dancing to this and

definitely dancing for the most part you i myself my mother and a lot of people will dance this but there's this actually this this style of music in the 90s didn't go across everyone you would think it did but there's definitely groups where this song doesn't work interesting and it's a little bit frustrating because man do i get down to this song i wonder if it's because like maybe it is like such a sound that's like rooted in a time period that like maybe if you missed you wouldn't be adhered to like want to like move to it but like that being said like me and you both love a lot of 80s music and we weren't like really around for that so i don't know

there's something about ccc it didn't make it this song doesn't didn't cross the charts like completely it was i don't know do we have the where we're it topped out at by chance i don't even i don't know what they mean like on the u.s billboard it's like where it topped out do we are we able to check where no but i could make that a quick i google search yeah let's see what i says about it and then how do i word that what's the highest that's yeah finally i'll figure out wording for it. There was another reason as we're searching for that, that we decided to pick this song.

It's that finally feeling. Mm-hmm. That finally, I finally made it. Finally did whatever. Whatever I've been trying to accomplish. Finally got done. Yeah. Whether it be, oh man, I've been trying to fix that thing in the garage.

Got it done today. Finally. C.C. Pinniston's finally peaked at number five on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Five. In 1992. It was up there, but I thought it would be a little lower. Okay. It had a run.

It had a decent run. Five is decent. 92 sounds about right. Yeah, that's when this was. Exactly when this is fire. And also that music video style was popping at that point where it's like, oh, yeah. Yeah, just like kind of crazy weird graphics all over. Bright, blinding 90s neon.

Bodies of like this guy, like doing crazy dance moves and stuff and you never actually see them. They're just behind a screen. That was the vibe. That's a 92 vibe right there. Unlimited. Absolutely. Look at the guy go. Yes.

Yes. I don't know much else about C.C. Penison outside of this track, really, to be honest. You don't? No, did she have other songs? Oh, yeah.

I think I've realized, like, with a lot of these artists that made these kind of, like, dance hits were, like, the thing that we knew them from was, like, this awesome dance hit. Then they put out an album, and they're probably at heart like an R&B singer, you know? Like they would have like these ballads that they would sing. And then their album would be a lot of that. Like I want to get my songs out there. I want to like get my voice out there.

Yeah. And then a lot of people would just be like, but wait, I just really like that dance track. This is finally again. Yeah, yeah. Let me hear that one that's like finally.

And like, but those are all kind of a similar sound and they got those guys. Really 90s are the best background dancers. Look at these guys. Get it. Dude, that just moves back then. You never should have veered away from that.

Should not have me. Well, they were getting sweaty back then. be real. Yeah, they're just working. They're working so much harder than what the answers do know, but I think you see elements of it that really... Now, this song was sampled recently by DJ Mustard and Travis Scott's. And let's see what they got with this. I'm going to just bring it in a little bit hard, but it's coming in fast. Here we go. Put some sugar on that right now.

There's so many times when I hear that, like, Travis Scott's vocals, he has such like a usual something that's become such. a common thing that you hear in hip hop nowadays. And I actually would give him credit as like one of the people that really like founded that sound, I would say. Like when I think of that sound, he's the first one that like comes to my mind. But it's just done with like the same type of beat all the time.

Yeah. So hearing it. That trap beat almost. Yeah. Hearing it with this different type of like dance beat almost. Yeah. That has like is rooted in early 90s dance music. I was like now, dude, it works so much better for that.

That was good. Yeah. One of the few songs I'll have to say I might be throwing that intimate. My, get in the rotation. Rotation. A whole lot of loving. Lovin.

Finally. If I get a 90s group that's in the hip hop now, I think it's working perfect. Well, I think it blends the modern sound enough with it where like maybe that can bring some of them in and be like, I bet you there's a lot of kids now that would hear that. I'd be like, yo, that's a dope track. And then you'd be like, you want to hear the original? Toss on that original. Throw it out.

Mr. Wright, and that's what's finally, like, hit me. That's a question, because I feel like those are two very different feelings. Yeah. That's the trough across the tracks, but which feeling is stronger and more overpowering? It's debatable, I think. I agree. Finally, you've come along the way I feel about you. It just can't be wrong.

If you only knew the way I feel about you, I just can't describe it. Oh, no. Yeah, so. I worry that she's, it's a little early. It feels like a first meeting. You know what I mean? This is one of those times where it's like, oh, she met him at the time. the bar and he just hit her and then they had a great time and she's like I finally met him.

The last shot is like hitting her good and she's like wait a second this guy looks really good in this 90s neon disco light I don't know I don't know I think is finally finally happened yeah yeah I guess how you know does premature finally happen isn't that the word one of the probably one of the worst finalies when you prematurely think oh finally done arguable but also you still have that moment where you felt that though I guess it's a little bit of a high a little bit of a dopamine rush. Did it not give you, like, yeah, bliss in the moment. And is that not worth something?

And then you look back like a month later, being like, that wasn't as good as I remember. remember it feeling you know it didn't turn out to be a whole thing that I thought but like you're not late in that moment like sometimes like you got to always need a positive and I live with the experience that brings it to you in the now you know what I'm saying? I like it man what I'm like some other finally moments in your life do you have any finally moments yeah we finally comes in many different levels you know like graduating college was that a finally that was wholly a final that was totally a final I'm with about getting into college that was a whole thing yeah I guess that was a thing

like you know definitely the exit was more of like fucking fine Finally, dude. Finally, I'm getting out. Finally, this is done. Finally, the last day of school. I mean, dude, every year growing up, like getting that, like, moment. Was there ever a happier day? I just remember, like, being in school pretty much, like, all through my school's existence.

That moment when, like, school finally gets out, it's just such, like, the way school system set you up with the summer and be like, dude, summer's arrived. We finally did it. And there's, you have that moment. Like, yeah, I feel like 80s movies. I can't even think of which one, but they'll be like, everybody runs out, and for some reason, Greece was like that. Yeah, Greece is one.

And everybody's just, like, throwing, like, papers up in the air and stuff, and, like, they're just like, but that is how you felt, whether it didn't necessarily physically look like that or not. But, like, that was always a great finally that you could count on every year, but always felt so far away, you know what I mean?

You read that. You had to look forward to. First time I finally got laid. I knew you were going on. That was a good one, man. That was a finally moment. You're like, you know, I was anywhere between the ages of, you know, young. Young to semi-decently young.

Mild adult. But anyways, it was still like, wow, man, this is. Especially in the age that when we were, like, in high school. Yeah. Where, like, there were all these movies that, like, made a huge deal about it. Like, one of my favorite movies in high school was, like, American Pie. Where the general, like, story of that movie. movie is, we must get late.

We must. Character Kevin literally gives a whole speech that ends with that. Yeah, he gets up on that, yeah. Like, that was. That is what everything was. And that movie was like... And that we also had before that was like movies like Greece and shit where he was like, I got my condom in the fourth grade.

And then she's like, they're like whatever. I didn't know what he was even talking about when any of that stuff. I remember seeing that movie when I was a kid and I didn't know. He's like, it broke. And I was like, look in like a ring? I always thought it was an insurance. its card. Yeah, I didn't know what he was talking.

And I thought about. I did a lot extra before. I was like, are you talking about that drive to Vegas? Because the drive to Vegas, I always think of as that finally moment. We're almost there. Because when you're coming over the mountain and you see the.

Yeah. But then it's a bit of a cock tease because you see it when you finally kind of We got a half hour. Yeah, it's still like another, it's still like another solid hour, I almost feel like, depending on the traffic. And you got to go into your parking space and all that. And then you still, but I mean, even at that, yeah, it's actually the point when you get to your room. It's about two and a half hours from that. It is from the time that you like, and then there's always that other cocktees when you see like, you first see a hotel and it ends up being like state line.

Oh, yeah. It's like, what's that called? They've closed all those at this point. No, really? Yeah, yeah, they closed all those. No way. Because I just saw one like a year ago. State line is officially like a ghost town.

And then so you feel like a failure for not getting that certification. Yes, I'm talking about a personal thing here where I committed myself for like three months at something. And then it's just like the other things. So I committed myself. Did you not do it again? Yeah, I can finish it, but I also don't want to anymore. So it's kind of lost. Finally, goals can change drastically, like, based on, like, what you're striving forward, like, what everybody's, like, either your daily thing or what your career goals are. And I do feel like sometimes we let the grand goal of, like, what we're chasing and whatever we may not be reaching on, like, on this day or this week or this month, like, like, beat us down too much because there's so many people out there, like, you know, myself included have such, like, lofty goals that we want to accomplish. And it can beat you down when you're, like, not seeing. exactly like yourself get to like that point that you keep thinking that oh well i was hoping to be doing this by then i was hoping to be doing that by then but that's when you got to like enjoy the finalies that come along with it and also enjoy the fact that you're actually like making a run at the finally because you know that's like you have a finally that that's your mission whether that's meeting mr wright getting married getting that job that you've always strived for like

getting that certificate there's so many different ways it comes and finally can come in a lot of different levels. You just talked about like the finally when you get out of the car and piss. Like there's a lot of like bits of happiness that like come through. Like you finally didn't piss your pants. Yeah, imagine that. Like,

you know. And what happens ultimately when the, even the most successful people in the world like do reach like that finally moment, they want to figure out the next thing. And it's always good to have something to strive for and to like have a goal of in mind and knowing like what you feel like your place is for. like what your mission is and like everything. And I just feel like as long as you still have breath in your lungs and you have a focused

mission and you know and it could change. Your mission could change. But that's a big part of life is having like things that you want to accomplish, want to achieve, you know, you want to do. It could be from day to day or week to week or month to month or year to year. And having vision of that, I think is something that is a powerful drug because if you take all that away, If you strip somebody's search for finally,

it's almost more depressing. Or it's like, what are you living for, you know? Yeah, if you're not striving for it finally, what are you? Yeah, like what is your being right now? What's your daily purpose? Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's a lot more sad, you know? All right, you like this remix?
