Starting point is 00:00:48 We're back with another edition Of the dot dot dot DGs What's going on everybody? And we decided it's time to get into some Classic beats right now What song we got for? We've thrown it way back
Starting point is 00:01:01 all the way to 1961 because you know what sometimes we gotta give the oldest son love don't forget it's your boy DJ Jack Callie Castle it's your dissect DJ is about to dissect Runaround Sue by Dion and this is a jam this is a song that will get your sister up and get your brother up your daughter
Starting point is 00:01:17 your son your uncle your aunt your mom and your grandma grandparents will be dancing of this okay? Most importantly your grandparents will be up and they will start doing the twist we can't deny the magic that this kind of jam brings so let's go ahead and dissect some old Run around Sue by Dion. Now, he starts off the game.
Starting point is 00:01:34 Here's a story. It's sad but true about a girl that he once knew. She took his love and ran around with every single guy in town. Now, taking this back to what year was this? 1961. 1960s. This girl was doing this in 1961, just coming out the 50s. This girl was on a whole different level.
Starting point is 00:01:54 It just goes to show. Slazos have always been running around. Oh, my goodness, Castle. It just shows the show that women have been free. They've been trifling for years. Do what they want to do. Free to do what you ladies want to do for as long as you wanted to do. Just because there haven't been a bunch of hip-hop songs going back into the past centuries and middle-ed jeras. It doesn't mean that there wasn't some trifling hose to be messed with.
Starting point is 00:02:15 Man, they're not trifling hos. They had respect and they wanted to have their share of what they wanted. Women should have been free to do what they wanted because guys have been doing it as much as we wanted. So that's what she's doing. Run around Sue is just running around just like all the guys do. And you know what? Those were some trifling dudes. That's just the way it is.
Starting point is 00:02:32 So guys are traffling, girls are traveling. Everybody's just traffling. Especially run around Sue, I guess. Sue, you're running all around town. He says with... And then all his boys come in with, hey, hey, hey! And he comes, whoa! You just really get it.
Starting point is 00:02:47 And then what does he say from that point on? I should have known from the very start. Very start, okay. This girl will leave me with a broken heart. I listen people that I'm telling you. I keep around from a run around to go. Hey, hey, whoa Oh, wait
Starting point is 00:03:47 What does he say in the second verse there? I might miss her lips in the smile on her face The touch of her hair and the girl's warm embrace So if you don't want to cry like I do I keep away from a run around suit Does he say I keep away from a run around Sue? A keep away So you better keep away
Starting point is 00:04:05 I'm a run around Sue. And ran around Sue, ran around with his heart. Well, I do need to point out that in that first line, he says, with every single guy in town. So this feels like somebody that's exaggerating a little bit because you're like, how many dudes are you seeing you? Because he's seen her with Tony and he's seen her with Mike and he's seen her with Bobby. And to him, that's like, dude, how many people are with you with every guy?
Starting point is 00:04:31 But if he was actually with every guy, then at that point, I'm like, you had to know that Sue wasn't worth giving your heart. She's actually with legitimately every guy, she's next level. That's work. She's working. She's busy. That's her job. It's almost at that point every single day.
Starting point is 00:04:47 You have to be like, okay. But that's not the case. She was probably with Bob Jim and Herring and that was it. And he's guys all jealous. Like, yo, what are you doing? She's like, I'm doing my thing. Leave me alone. Hey, but this, of all the songs that I've ever heard,
Starting point is 00:04:59 that's kind of like calling out a broken heart because the girl was running around to you, I don't think there's anyone that slaps as much of this one. This one jumps. Oh, I keep a little. This guy's a hate her A little bit You know what? Run around Sue wasn't giving him no play
Starting point is 00:05:47 That's what this story is This is running around Sue He's like yo fuck Sue Nothing actually suggests that he ever had a thing gone with Sue Nothing ever says that So Sue is the girl that he can't get with She's doing her thing He's like well fuck she's a house
Starting point is 00:06:00 She's running around around Sue And he's talking shit And telling people like you shouldn't run around Sue she's a bad girl She likes to travel around She'll love you and then she'll put you down That not saying that he did to her. She's just seeing it. This guy, Dion wanted Sue, couldn't get Sue so decided to make a song
Starting point is 00:06:17 about Sue and trash her. Here's the line that really... Really ties it in. Points it all out. I fell in love and my love still grows. Ask any fool that she ever knew. They'll say keep a... I don't even need to add that part. The point is, I fell in love and my love still grows. That's a point. You fell in love with a girl that you shouldn't have fallen in love with and then it continues to grow. Who fault is that? You're going to keep blaming that on Sue? She's apparently with every guy in town, you liar. According to you. Deion, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, Dion. Sometimes Deion needs to look in the mirror and look at Deion.
Starting point is 00:06:53 Yeah, Deion, look at your son. Why is that love still grown? Why are you hating on run around Sue? She's not running around anything. She's having fun, Sue. She's enjoying her life. Is it that poodle dress? I didn't want you, Sue is what she is. Is it them curls up in her hair? Is it that twist that she keeps doing? Dion, get a life. All right, wait, wait, wait, wait, I don't want to make this whole song about Hating on Dia, because he made a... He kills the track. Yeah, keep away from this girl.
Starting point is 00:07:20 I know what you'll do. Keep away from... Oh, she likes a tree. Or she goes out with people away from her. Now, he says the moral of the story from the guy who knows. Now, it still does not suggest that she was with him. He's saying he knows because he's saying he'd be with him. I'm going to go ahead and go with the story that run around Sue is somebody.
Starting point is 00:08:04 He wanted, couldn't get with, and he decided to make a trash song. This is him, Notorious B-I-G and Tupac trashing. That's what he's doing. He's trashing her. He's Tupac-ing. Yeah, he's Tupacing her just like Notorious and Big did, which, by the way, notorious, we should probably do something on him. Oh, we will.
Starting point is 00:08:24 B-I-G. There's a biggie-week waiting to happen, yeah. I think so. But beyond that, he's trashing her because he couldn't get with her. History is written by those who write the tracks. And that's Dionne right here. And I got to imagine. And I got to imagine that Sue was a girl that was actually in his town, that he was feeling miffed by.
Starting point is 00:08:45 He was not getting a shot at her. He was hopelessly in love with her. And instead of actually ever taking a shot, he decided to make this song. And you know what? Sue, thank you very much for running around town on this home dude neon because he made a He didn't deserve you. Oh, they're bringing the sax. That's sex.
Starting point is 00:09:16 Run around, Sue. Dion, you made a trash song about a girl you couldn't get with. Is that it? It should be rude. That's his song, man. That's dumb. Those songs back then, they wrapped up quick. We might need to do a bunch of old school tracks just so we can knock out a bunch of
Starting point is 00:09:30 podcast because they're so quick. We should. Because we just got done time-wise here. We just did the 112 song. That did the same exact verse about five times. They could have taken a lesson from Dionne right here And just been like, yo, this could have been a two-minute song
Starting point is 00:09:44 It's fine. That got the point across, got the message across. Two minutes 44. Do you know what to know The part about this song That always brings me in And I think brings everybody in It's that little recharge
Starting point is 00:09:55 Right before it gets into like the main hook That goes, Ah She likes to travel me right. Yeah, yeah, it builds it back up. I love that. A slight rebuild. Yeah, that little like
Starting point is 00:10:08 Do that again. I didn't do that with music. You don't see that anymore. You always do like a 32 bar bill. I'm like, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do. Yeah, you don't need that. It's going to be too long, too long, too long, just get into it. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:20 Oh, yeah, you're right. I didn't realize how much of an impactful part that is in the song, but that gets me all hype just thinking about it as well. So you're right. Hey, hey, hey. Oh. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, hey.
Starting point is 00:10:37 Hey. Hey. You guys are all doing it at home. You got a run around so. Got it. I come right out forever on Routarant Su, because that's all you need. The instrumentals with the nice saxophone, that live band feel that they used to have back in the 50s. Back in those days, you could just vibe off that one singer just getting it while the band is just playing along.
Starting point is 00:11:14 And that was all we needed. I'm saying it like I was there for that, but I... Far from that. I would have liked to have experienced it, though. That's what I'm saying. I'm just proud of the fact that we dissected the fact because this whole time I've been thinking about Sue as being rude, disrespectful,
Starting point is 00:11:27 ruining this man's heart. Being a runner-rounder. And the whole time it was Dion who was overthinking the amount of love that he was supposed to be getting from a woman who was not his. Which I'm almost certain is the backstory of this story. Absolutely. Like, I'm almost certain.
Starting point is 00:11:44 He couldn't get after. We've had like, he trashed her. In our days of dissecting, we've dealt with a lot. Dion, you're disrespect. We've had a lot of R&B songs that are very similar tone. They've been doing this in the 60s. Yeah. Where the guy was like just kind of whining about a girl like,
Starting point is 00:11:59 I gave you everything and you didn't want to give me nothing. Like whatever the fuck. This one I'm even more sure. Your issue with is a girl that like was just kind of like there to party. She was just there like, oh, a lot of cute boys here tonight. I'm going to let my freak flag fly, you know. And at that time, that was like a, you show up with Johnny, your neighbor that was interesting. Introduced to you by your parents when you were 12 and you will marry him and have 16 kids.
Starting point is 00:12:26 At least. And you will live a very spiteful life that never meets the level that you hope it becomes. I'm so glad we just, this is brought a whole new meaning to this song, which slaps like no other. Oh, it's a great song. Like, I want to dance every time I hear it. But I always looked at it one way and now I will forever look at it the other way. Dion, get a life. She wasn't yours from the get-go.
Starting point is 00:12:49 you suck I'm pretty sure Deanne never hate it he definitely not gonna go and not even got close he just needed a girl crossed the way and he just wanted to hate on her because she was getting with everybody else and he was ugly with zits
Starting point is 00:13:01 that's what happened how many slaps? He had a great voice though killed it yeah but that was probably 10 years later and then like you know she was already married with eight of her 16 kids I mean there's an abundance
Starting point is 00:13:11 of assumption lyricism how many slaps you give this how many snaps I'm gonna go ahead and give mine are you ready for mine because it just looks it's a good soul
Starting point is 00:13:25 gets you dancing the castle said earlier you'll get your baby dancing it'll get your sister dancing it'll get your daddy dancing it'll get your grandmother dancing it'll even get your great grandmother dancing this song goes all ages all jondras and I just found out something mind blowing that run around
Starting point is 00:13:41 Sue is a rude name that the singer decided to give to the person he's singing about because he couldn't get with her and all she was doing was enjoying her time because she didn't want him mind fucking blow Yeah, but...
Starting point is 00:13:55 Five claps. Let's be honest. Five claps. In comparison to today's time, run around to quite a tape name. In today's era... I don't even do it. If somebody was going to make it...
Starting point is 00:14:06 Don't even try it. Don't do it. Don't do it. Everything you're going to say is be difficult. Jizz. Smacky Jackie. Just smacking Jackie. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:14:16 It would be a way worse. We can go deeper, but we don't want to go too crazy with that. No, I think I nailed it with Jizz Smacky Jackie. Jiz Smacky Jackie. would be the equivalent of runaround suit. The 2020 equivalent of run around suit. Yeah, so that was fine. It was nice.
Starting point is 00:14:29 What are you giving it, Castle? Oh, oh. Fuck it. You know what? I think you should rebuttal. Let me tell you what it should be, because I'm going to do it with you. I think we're both going to agree.
Starting point is 00:14:50 Okay. It's going to go. You're right. You're going to add the, oh, because that part gets me to every single time. Yeah. We're keeping all my last one, too. It's still five.
Starting point is 00:15:10 Yeah, yeah. It's five with an added, oh, because you called it out. You're right. That is the part of that song that sticks out and makes you want to just get crazy. And it's short, sweet, to the point. Rebuild, let's keep the party going. Yeah, that's the recharge that we need in that song.
Starting point is 00:15:26 Yeah, a couple times. I think it happens like twice, right? Music these days could take a note from that. We could usually recharge to let you know. Drake. We need to jump back into it. I hate you, Drake. But I love you.
Starting point is 00:15:38 But I love you. All right, I think with that, I think we just dissect the run around Sue. It is time for... Jump back up into the next. next level next
