Starting point is 00:00:00 It's the dissect the DJ DJ Jolene Jolene Jolene I'm begging of you please don't take my man I've been wanting to do this for and for a while what's going on everybody
Starting point is 00:00:25 it's your boy DJ MCJ and your boy Castizi and it's the Dysect DJs in the building Because we are the DJs I like just spit it Throw it back and dissect it D dissect it And this is a timely piece despite the fact that it's very old song.
Starting point is 00:00:44 Not nearly in this time. But like a week ago, just a few days ago, as we're recording, literally two days ago as we're recording, Dolly Parton showed up on the Dallas Cowboys stage and absolutely rocked it. Rocked it. Way better than Jack Harlow. Well, we might have something to say about that on next week's episode. Stay tuned. Boom.
Starting point is 00:01:08 Foreshadowing. We did there? You see what we did there? Dolly Parton, the ageless Dolly Parton, came out, rocked it. Straight up pulled off a Dallas Cowboys cheered his costume and did not look like she was even cosplaying. It was like, you could just like jump in. If you could do the splits and can do a backflip, you're on the team. I don't think she can, but Dolly Parton, she just doesn't age.
Starting point is 00:01:32 We literally just were looking up music videos to see if like maybe we could play a music video as we're doing the episode. And we found a video from 1974. Swear to God, she looks exactly the same. 50 years ago. Yeah. 50. She looked, not exactly.
Starting point is 00:01:48 Absolutely. She was definitely not far off. Pretty much, though. Like, the only difference really was, like, the intensity of the camera now is more intense. And it was a little bit more softer and kind of like a glazed over lens back in the 70s. But she looked exactly the same. I swear it was crazy. Dally pardon.
Starting point is 00:02:05 Doesn't age at all. Like I said, I mean, it was a little bit. asking Cassel, can we tell you this one? Can we do Jolene by Dolly Parton? I've been asking for a while why, because this one has a story behind it that's a little bit crazy. Now, it's a quick episode. It's only a two minute, two, whatever minute, song. But this lady Jolene is going to take this woman's man and it's
Starting point is 00:02:23 very confusing as to why a woman would sing and ask another woman to not take her man. It's just like, I've always been like, what are they talking about? I never had the time or the, uh, patience. Patience. Curiosity. I don't know. The moment. To really listen to the song.
Starting point is 00:02:36 What you just described to me is more than I've ever actually known about the song, other than the fact that it's apparently about somebody named Jolene. She's going to take her man. Let's listen to do it. Oh, is that what she just said? Dolly. All right. Yeah, let's hear her say more.
Starting point is 00:02:49 Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene. Please don't take him just because you can. Your beauty is beyond compare with flaming locks of orphan hair with ivory skin and eyes of emerald green. Your smile is like a breath of spring Your voice is soft like summer rain And I cannot compete with you, Jolene Sounds like a good place to dip out She is just
Starting point is 00:03:26 Building up this other woman To be God's gift to earth The most beautiful thing with ivory, whatever And just Well let's read the lyrics So we could actually see what she says Jolene Jolene times four
Starting point is 00:03:40 You know what it means She says Jolene a bunch of times I am begging of you please Don't take my man Oh yeah She says it right away You're right It's pretty clear
Starting point is 00:03:50 I think I heard that But Jolene times four Please don't take him Just because you can't Yeah you're right She's begging this woman Not to take her man
Starting point is 00:04:01 And let's listen to what she'd go Go ahead next to the line Interesting Okay Your beauty is beyond Compare With flaming locks Of autumn hair
Starting point is 00:04:10 Auburn hair with ivory skin and eyes of emerald green. Your smile is like a breath of spring. Your voice is soft like summer rain, and I cannot compete with you, Jolene. It almost sounds like a love note to this girl Jolene. Like she's putting her over, man. She's talking her up.
Starting point is 00:04:34 You are amazing. She is really like... You were the most incredible thing. Please don't take my man. Maybe maybe she's doing the opposite it and what she's doing is building up the woman like you're the greatest thing, don't take my man and she wants her to take her man
Starting point is 00:04:45 because she's tired of her man. Interesting. Almost doing the reverse psychology that's possibly could be happening. It is a rare strategy. Because she is excessive with the amount she's building up. She's really putting her over.
Starting point is 00:04:57 She's putting Jolene up there with like. Up here. Yeah. Head is stillling her. It's definitely a strategy that I've never heard again. I'll say that. I've never heard anybody like usually
Starting point is 00:05:10 if there's a song nowadays about somebody that's trying to like moving on your man like you know you get don't mess with my man I'm gonna wanna figure to you if you're with my man
Starting point is 00:05:22 find your own leave mine alone you mess with my man I love that song That song still gets me hype to this day But that's usually the way it goes But usually you don't see somebody Just like especially somebody like
Starting point is 00:05:56 Dali Parton just like bowing down, just being like, you know what? What's funny is she- I give in to you, you're better than me, so please don't take my man. Like, it's very submissive. But then she's also like, it's Dolly, though. Dolly's a doll, man. Like, what's she's like so-
Starting point is 00:06:11 I know, that's what I'm saying. Like, it's rare. It's especially somebody like Dolly Parton to like just hand over the keys to somebody else and just be like, look, you win. You can do whatever you want. Just don't take it. take my man, okay? You're better than me.
Starting point is 00:06:30 You are superior at every way. You're right. Actually, as I'm talking it out, it feels like a little reverse psychology. That's got to be what's going on. She wants her to be like, okay, I'll take your man then. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. He's like, oh, oh, shucks. Continue with Jolly, because I want to see him to the rest of the story.
Starting point is 00:06:45 Because so far, she's just building up Jolene and doesn't want to take the man. I want to finish the rest of the story. All right, let's go. Come on, Dali. He talks about you in his sleep, and there's nothing I can do to keep from crying when he called your name Jolene He's talking about her in his sleep
Starting point is 00:07:03 Dude How can you stop that? That's such a bad deal Like, like you What if he like Doesn't want to be doing that? Like he's, That's just crazy, man
Starting point is 00:07:14 No, I mean Can you imagine like he's No, I mean Jolene No, I mean Jolene You're, I risked Yeah
Starting point is 00:07:22 Jolene let's go in the seesaw together Yeah I'm right again You've had two hot dogs I feel like If your husband is talking about another woman in his sleep Yeah you're kind of trying to be like All right dude this is
Starting point is 00:07:38 That's that's deep shit That you're like okay first of all You're already talking your sleep While we're painful man That's annoying as fuck And on top of that you keep talking about this girl Jolene Like yeah like here Jolene
Starting point is 00:07:53 Please take the keys to my If he really does his cheating or trying to cheat, then fuck him. But if he's, like, really cares about his woman and somehow, some way in his dreams, he has this random dream that he has where he out speaks a woman named Jolene's boy. In his slumber. But he wakes up, he's like, hi, babe, how are you? You want some breakfast? Like, he's 100% loving, like, gets her gifts.
Starting point is 00:08:15 He has no idea what he's saying when he's sleeping, man. I just feel bad for him. I know. If at some way, some chance, he's just like. Fucking dreams are selling them down the river. Jolene, I love you. Jolene lives with me. You're amazing.
Starting point is 00:08:27 Yeah, yeah. And then wakes up and just in love with his wife. Like, Dolly. Yeah, yeah. Dahlia, you're so beautiful. Like, you get some of just horny, ready to beg. You know what I mean? Like, I just worry about that might be the case.
Starting point is 00:08:38 What if that's the only thing that's causing all of this? That's it. That's what I'm saying. Yeah, that's just like, it is sleep randomly talking about somebody else. Like, is that bad? Is that it? It's subconscious. Like, it's not even you doing it.
Starting point is 00:08:50 Like, I feel so bad. Could be like a character from a TV show that he's just been watching or something? Or maybe it is. in his dream, a woman that in his dream. Just some woman that doesn't exist? It is after, but his subconscious is like that. He married to her when he's dreaming. He knows when he wakes up.
Starting point is 00:09:04 No, I have Dolly. Like, okay, he's up my life. He works. He pays all the bills. He's always there. He's attentive. Makes her waffles in the morning? Yeah, it makes everything. He loves her.
Starting point is 00:09:13 I would feel so bad that that's the story. Yeah, yeah. Like I said, if he's cheating and he has a girl named fucking Jolene and she's like worried about him taking her. By the way, we like to do this without actually doing any research about like what this out. We could probably do a quick Google search. Be like, hey, who's Jolene?
Starting point is 00:09:29 Who's the person in this song? I feel mad for her. Man, no, man. I don't want to do it, though. I don't want to do it. We like doing it this way. This is the way that this is the dissect DJ's way. D'S in the one of the building.
Starting point is 00:09:44 Yeah, but there's two things that I'm seeing that I'm working. It's either that one that I just said where he's speaking in his dreams and he doesn't even really doing it. And that's fucked up. or this man is possibly thinking about another woman and she's over it and she's reversed psychology. I'm saying, don't take my man, go get him.
Starting point is 00:10:02 Do I need to even read the lyrics? I mean, like she says these lyrics very clearly. I don't even think I need to repeat him. He talks about you in his sleeve and there's nothing I can do to keep. Bring him from crying. He calls your name Jolie. Next verse.
Starting point is 00:10:16 Dolly, keep it going. Dolly. Tell us what's up. you don't know what he means to me, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, don't take my... Don't take him just because you have your choice of men that I could never love again. He's the only one for me, Jolene. I'll just talk with you.
Starting point is 00:11:09 My happiness depends on you and whatever you decide to do, Jolene. There's got to be more backstory to this, because does Jolene even know what's happening? Jolene might be oblivious. Yeah, but it's oblivious. She's just like... What if Jolene was a friend of, like, Dolly's husband, right? And there was nothing going on between her. They saw each other, like, once every, like, six months.
Starting point is 00:11:36 And then Dolly released this song. And Jolene was just like, what the fuck? And then this song became, like, worldwide famous. And everybody knew, like, that she would literally have to have this conversation with somebody every time. They're like, Jolene. Oh, like that Dolly song. and she's like, yeah, yeah, I like that song. This all could have taken place because her husband randomly said Jolene at night one time.
Starting point is 00:12:03 And then maybe like she met her when they were out at brunch. And then she's like, he was like, oh, hey, Jolie. Oh, Jolene, this is my wife, Dolly. And then she just saw her. And then was just like, oh, my God, that Jeline has piercing green spring eyes. What did she call him? Autumn hair. Auburn hair.
Starting point is 00:12:21 Ivory skin. And like she just immediately just felt like all of a sudden just like intimidated and then she just went to the studio and she just wrote this song. Next thing you know came out with a banger that everybody in the world was singing that we still sing to this day. That's probably what happened actually. That's my, that's my, I'm going to like sign off on that's probably what it was. I feel like she probably just overreacted to her husband having a somewhat hot friend named Jolene and she just like over did it. And then in the artist's world, sometimes you just put your story out there, you know. You tailor swift it a little bit.
Starting point is 00:12:58 And then next thing you know, this girl, Jolene, is just being pigeonholed as some sort of man-stealing hoe the rest of her life. You know, and we don't even know Jilline's backstory. We don't even know who she's. I don't even know. And what if this? Another, can I add one more possible story to this? Add it. A possible scenario?
Starting point is 00:13:14 Yeah. What if Jolene is not even female but male? what if her name is Joe and he lost his name his name is Joe and his last name is Lee. Oh wait, you're doing something stupid. Okay, yeah, yeah, carry on.
Starting point is 00:13:30 I'll give you the runway. Keep going. Lost his leg. Yeah. Somehow. And she's worried about her husband leading her. You got me.
Starting point is 00:13:50 Joe Lee. Bad joke. All right. Anyways, dude, that's, we'll get that scenario. I got to go, whatever. No, that's it. You nailed it. I think we uncovered the backstory of Jolene this whole time.
Starting point is 00:14:05 Even though it's spelled Jolene, Benign, it's actually Joe Lean. And he just kind of... Actually, that would be a cool nickname for a Joe that's actually, like, kind of has a hitching his walk, you know? Hey, Joe, Joe Lee! This should be his, like, walk up to the plate music, you know? Something like that? For sure, for sure. Anyways, all right.
Starting point is 00:14:27 All right, let's finish the saga. We said this could be a quick one. We're pretty close. All right. Hit it, Dolly. Simple and effective, Justin. Straight to the point in that song. This song is super basic.
Starting point is 00:15:14 Essentially, just asking your girl to not take her man. Not sure if she's being sarcastic with it or sincere with it. Either way, she's talking to a woman named Jolene, who is apparently beautiful beyond compare and asking her not to take her man. The fact that she says even though you can, I kind of want Dali to have a little bit more fight in you, man. Like, come on, stand up for yourself. Stand up for you and your man. You know she can't.
Starting point is 00:15:37 Relationship? Like, what do you mean? Because she's that beautiful. I got to be honest. A viter girlfriend say that to me. Like, she could take you because she can. I would be like kind of offended by that if she just like threw the keys to her. You think it's just that?
Starting point is 00:15:50 You think it's just the Auburn hair? Like, oh, she's so pretty. She could take you if she can. I would kind of be like, you know what about that trip to Napa? Does that not mean something to you? I just want you to think, like, things go a little bit deeper than, like, as you see them skin deep, like, just because you decide that this girl's prettier than you. I didn't decide that you said that. You just decided, oh, I'm just going to give her the keys.
Starting point is 00:16:14 You would rather be with her anyways. I kind of hate that, like, you know, just throw the towel in mentality. What about our Benny Hanna Knights? Fight for it. Fight for it. Dolly? What about sushi Tuesdays that we have to get? together. Okay, I have those with you. Yeah. Okay. I'm taking, I don't even know Joe Lee. She doesn't even like sushi. He. It might be a he.
Starting point is 00:16:36 It might be a Joe Lee. He has trouble walking and I have to deal with that. Come on. Come on, Dolly. Have some spine. Fight for a year. You're a world-class country singer with tall blonde hair. Anyways, we finally did Jolene and just found out it's just her begging another woman not to take her man. and that's it That's literally so long I almost want to look up I know this is against our rules But I almost want to look up
Starting point is 00:17:01 Like what it Do it do it Do it? Do it real quick I'm going to check it out Fuck rules I say that in my day trading And that's why I fucking suck
Starting point is 00:17:10 Surprising mini behind Dolly song This is a website called Good Housekeeping So follow that up See if that's reputable You always got to go through Like the first two paragraphs
Starting point is 00:17:23 when it's just like... Some backstory that means nothing. Literally, I went to the third paragraph and it says, so what does the lyrics mean? Thank you. Okay. She opened up to NPR about where the idea of the kind of song came from.
Starting point is 00:17:39 Even though they revolve around being jealous of another woman, the origin of Jolene actually came from a much more innocent place. One night I was on stage and there was a beautiful little girl. She was probably eight years old at the time. What the fuck? Dolly told the outlet, And she had this beautiful red hair, this beautiful skin, these beautiful green eyes. And she was looking up at me holding an autograph.
Starting point is 00:18:02 I said, well, you're the prettiest thing I ever saw. What is your name? She said, Jolene. And I said, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene. I said, this is pretty. It sounds like a song. I'm going to write a song about that. And lo and behold, she did just that.
Starting point is 00:18:17 While Dali may have used the girl's name of the new song, she drew further inspiration from her own life story. soon after Dolly married her husband Carl Dean in 1966. An attractive red-headed, okay, well, there are we go? There's the... There's the meat of the... All right, yes. Really buried in the backstory there.
Starting point is 00:18:36 So she got the name Jeline from some girl, but it sounds like there is a little bit. I don't know, I sure. A red-headed bank teller. Supposed he began flirting with him. This didn't sit well with Dolly and prompt her right out her feelings. She would just get mad at right, so.
Starting point is 00:18:51 Oh, no, bank teller. she would just get mad at it and then named it after an eight-year-old girl and go home and write songs i actually wish that was that's that would be a much better argument way to deal with problems like i would appreciate that immensely he was spending a little more time with jeline than i thought he should be i put a stop to that i got rid of that red-headed woman in her oh no no those are actually lyrics right are those part of the lyrics we didn't finish the song lyrics that was the end of it that's what she said no she never said those in Had I not been for that woman, I never would have written Jolene.
Starting point is 00:19:25 I wouldn't have made all that money. Thank you, Jolene. All right. Look, there's definitely an element. You cannot tell me that the lyrics of this song did not come partially out of her having some sort of jealous feelings. Yeah. Like, she definitely wrote it the day after seeing some woman that, like, Flirted with her man.
Starting point is 00:19:49 Probably didn't even flirt. I'll bet you if he'd just talk to her. and like maybe it was like a waitress or a bank teller and then she was just looking at her and you know sometimes a girl's like see a girl that I think is really pretty and they just get like super just like almost like insecure and like jealous and just like oh man I wish I had that hair that looked like that was Auburn red and she has those green eyes
Starting point is 00:20:10 and like man bet you my husband like wishes he was married to her this whole time fuck that girl what's her name her name Texas Jill Neenar right and there was literally nothing but an exchange of like all right yeah here's your bank statement All right, thanks come again. She's smiling because that's her job and everything. That's, I bet that's that. I'm piecing it together.
Starting point is 00:20:30 I can see it. I'm like concocting it, and that's where it all comes from. And this random big tailor named Jolene has an entire legacy made about her, and Dolly thanks her because she is literally still dining off this song. Literally just performed it two nights ago. Thanksgiving. In a cowboys cheerleaders costume. in the middle of Dallas.
Starting point is 00:20:53 And can we talk about the fact that she also... 77 years old. Still looking fantastic. And I have to comment on the fact that she performed, We Are the Champions, in Dallas, which was hilarious to me. Because the Dali Pardon being able to pull off a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader costume in Dallas is the best reason for anybody to sing
Starting point is 00:21:18 we are the champions in that city in the last 30 years, which I thought was kind of hilarious. Technically, is that because you're a Ninershury? Is that a Niners fan? No, it's because the Cowboys haven't won shit since 1995. Is it the Aikman? It's more about that.
Starting point is 00:21:32 Yeah, Aikman, yeah. So hearing anybody's seeing We Are the Champions in Dallas was kind of funny to me. And the fact that it was Dali Pardon in a Dallas Cowboys cheer litter's uniform and that she was like pulling it off at age 77. That's the best reason they've had to sing, we are the champions. Oh, definitely. Dallas. They might win this year. No.
Starting point is 00:21:55 No. I don't. You don't lose that? Well, I can tell you, it's definitely not my Steelers. Try to storm past those Niners. Did you see what happened when they played Niners? I don't know what happened. Niners beat them like fucking 48 to 10. You know that that was a setup? Yeah, it's a good, yeah, yeah, a little rope-a-dope.
Starting point is 00:22:15 We were like, eh, you take us. That's all that was. All right, what are you giving slaps and snaps for some dollies, Jolene? Two and one? Two and two? I mean, this isn't my kind of music. Let's be real. It's like Folsey Country.
Starting point is 00:22:34 I gave it two and two. If it wasn't for my respect for Dolly, I've always loved Dolly Parton. She's just a gem. She's what we need in celebrity. Let's say that, okay? She's just this gorgeous little, like, happy blonde that's just been around forever.
Starting point is 00:22:50 She never seems to age. She's always just glorious. Anytime I've seen her in an interview, she's just delightful you know she just brings amazing energy yeah she just she's awesome i love dolly pardon and um it's one of her famous songs and like it's a kind of song that people can like start singing at a gathering a little bit of sweet caroline energy you know and uh yeah so you know i mean it's not a song song that i'll ever like play listen to myself you know is i'm not like a big country or focusing your guy and everything but i respect it you know i'm giving it two and two that's that's that's
Starting point is 00:23:25 my line of like I respect and it's like I appreciate but it's just under like when you cross three that's when it's like I really like this song and I listen to it a lot so that's like you know it's a respectable rating I think what do you give it you give it four a very delayed four very you don't like this song that much let me explain something about this song okay this i've been DJing now 20 years there's this new thing called stems on serrato where you're able to actually take out the lyrics of pretty much any song or any beat of any song and just use the beat or just the lyrics for whatever you're going to use at that very moment. Before that, you had to use other songs or lyrics of songs.
Starting point is 00:24:14 I've actually been mixing Jolene, just that part, Jolene. In the back of like songs since I first started, just because something about the way she sings it just tracks me. I can listen to this song. I don't know what she's saying. I'm just very It's a groovy And then she's talking about some chicks
Starting point is 00:24:36 Taking her, man, you feel bad for her But you don't want to stop listen to her Because you're like, you feel like you're sitting there talking to her And you're like consulting her And she's giving you, she's crying off Everything that's happening to her But she's explaining to this one And you're just there to help her like
Starting point is 00:24:49 You're going to get through this Dully Dolly, you got this It's one of those songs that just rang with me Since I was a kid And I just like it I like it And you could add it to house music
Starting point is 00:25:01 you do do do do too do you get at this house Jolene Plake Let me see there's a dolly A Jolene house mix Probably is But anyways
Starting point is 00:25:24 So yeah that's what I gave it man Oh wait I found one called the Distrupto remix Let's see what we got here That sounds like aggressive What are you gonna do it there Alright Add to this
Starting point is 00:26:06 Next That's the first time we've ever Try to do that out of a jet Wait wait wait wait wait let's do a one more Hit it Guys, that fuck with us. We missed it. Sometimes you miss the beat. It does. Whatever.
