Summer routines live or die by how easy they are.
And honestly, if something takes too much effort, I'm out.
That's why Grooons is my go-toe.
It's one daily pack of gummies covering my greens, vitamins, and minerals.
Plus, it has six grams of prebiotic fiber, which is more than two cups of broccoli.
No mixing powders, no giant pills, no hassle.
I just rip open the pack, and I'm done.
They taste so good and make it easy to stay on top of my health.
Even when life gets busy.

You're the best, which of course is known primarily from its presence in the 1984 film, The Karate Kid.
I'm Ryan Castle of the Dicek DJs.
If this is your first time joining the show, welcome.
If you're checking back in, welcome back.
And doesn't that song just make you want to spar in a karate tournament?
I feel like I could go like three rounds at Tung Sudo right now.
Just makes me want to crane kick a fool.
But today, I got a special throw.
Showback movie review for y'all, which actually dates back to my previous podcast, the three things about podcast days, when we dissected this very movie.
And the reason that I actually want to throw this back into the mix is very simple.
Just saw a post today that said that it was on this day that the Karate Kid was first released into theaters 42 years ago.
Way back in 1984.
Yeah, 42 years ago.
of karate kid.
And this actually is probably the longest throwbacks
you all over here on the dissect DJs
because we dissected this back in like, I don't know,
2021, 22, something like that.
So when you listen to it,
the audio is going to be of less quality
because this was back when we used to record
on my old school mic in my garage.
But, you know, once you get into it,
it plays and take it like this.
Imagine that you're just chilling
in a back garage with a couple homies
and y'all just watch Karate Kid.
And now you just want to talk about it.
So you break it down three things we got to talk about style.
Because that's exactly what it is.
Just three guys in a garage talking Karate Kid.
Except we had microphones there.
And then, to cap it off, you give out some thingy awards.
That's right. MVP, six men off the bench.
Things that aged well, things that didn't age well, you know, stuff like that.
And I do feel like Karate Kid since the time I actually recorded this episode.
has become such a more prominent piece of pop culture relevance because of the show of
Cobra Kai, which I am a huge fan of. And there is a Cobra Kai piece of this that I wanted to discuss
ahead of this episode because my fandom of Cobra Kai actually begins directly with the recording
of this podcast. Cobra Guy had been out for a couple seasons, and I was aware of it, but I actually
knew nothing about the show really at all. And we actually bring it up at the end of this episode when the
conversation comes up of would karate kid work in today's modern day? And I'm like, well, it's been
redone. They have like a series about it right now. And literally the day after I recorded, it popped up in
front of me on like Netflix. Karate Kid was fresh in my head. I had just seen it. I had just talked all
about it in a garage with my homies. And I was like, there's no better time than now to dive back into the
whole Karate Kid universe. So I literally started up this series the day after I recorded this podcast and
immediately fell in love with the series. Have since seen
all seven seasons, or however many they ended up doing.
And I loved it.
It was self-aware.
It constantly referenced the original movie.
It immediately dives right into the topic that we discuss in this very episode of which
one is the bully.
It actually takes a walk through Johnny's life perspective, which is exactly what we
discuss as we get into this, except for I will say the best thing about the series is
Johnny Lawrence.
He's so much more of a fun hang as an adult who's kind of been through some shit.
Far more so than the Smarmie Rich kid who just does karate to like fuck with kids at
school and bash his ex-girlfriend's boombox on the beach. But yeah, recording this podcast was a
direct pipeline to get me into watching Cobra Kai. And it's been my favorite series, I'd say, over the
last few years. Because yeah, I don't watch a whole lot of streaming series. So if you're a fan of
Kobe Kai and you're a fan of karate kid, I think you're going to dig this conversation right here.
Alongside DJ Jag and Cameron Murray, who joined us on this episode, who actually used to live
with both of us. So without further ado, let's get in to our throwback episode of Karate Kid.
And then next week, we got a fresh new episode coming your way where we dissect a classic
throwback dance jam from the 90s. You're going to love it and is going to make you move.
But for now, let's go back to the 80s where we got a classic three things style review of the
1984 classic karate kid.
Oh, there's a lot of headnought going on in the room.
I mean, it's just a great song.
It's arguably the best montage song in the history of television, movie, and theater.
Makes me want to kick something.
It makes me want a sweep song.
Like, maybe a leg, like, giant.
Definitely that.
Definitely an air drum song.
It's got Cam hidden the air drums, like a maniac right now.
And we're back.
It's the three things we got to talk about.
podcast and we got a squad today right now that's ready to be you know what we're ready to be
the best around oh yeah i'm excited it's the karate kid ladies and gentlemen my trusty companion justino
back in the building the newest member of the castle establishment over here down here with a castle
dungeon making his first appearance is it cameron i'm worried to get up in this dude thank you guys
i'm very excited to be here so we're going to kick it off with the 1984 classic karate kid
And real quick, I like to explain why.
Obviously, it's a classic 80s time piece.
But it was suggested by Justin, and I just want to throw out real quick, that one of the things I love about this guy is when he comes in super confident on a selection about something random.
It's one of the things that makes him a great DJ, actually, because he'll just be reading the dance floor and be like, super freak.
That's what time it is.
Oh, when doves cry.
Square biz.
He throws on square biz real quick.
He gets it up there like, he throws it out of there real quick.
Like, he knows exactly which one.
in confident with it and he hit me up and he's like hey I think we should watch karate kid
and then do a pot about it and he just came in hot with karate kid and I was just like absolutely
and I haven't seen karate kids since I was a child so yeah so I didn't let I catch you up to do
on this movie so the reason the reason castle I brought this up was because I had a conversation
with Cameron actually yeah of which the argument he brought up it was something I never
thought of because when you watch this movie it gears you towards thinking a very specific
thing. So with that said,
I think it leads into
thing number one. I think it does.
Because the fact is,
it does. We just all
watched Karate Kid right now. We did.
And you know what? We got
some things we got to talk about.
Lots of things are going to talk about, guys.
And it's all going to start
once we toss it up to the rundown.
And that, of course, it's going to bring us
to thing number one.
Number one.
Number one.
Who was the real bully in Karate Kid?
Listen, I'm passionate about this guys.
Go ahead. Hit a camera.
I mean, I grew up just like the rest of us.
I mean, I feel like Karate Kid was one of the biggest movies of our childhood.
I mean, we all, you know, wanted to be Daniel's son on the karate mat.
And, I mean, I did Taekwondo for five years.
So, you know, it was just deep in me to, you know, I love the movie.
But I watched a three-minute clip on YouTube kind of describing him as the villain.
and I re-watched the movie
and I mean you see it just from the very start
So who's the real, who's the bully?
Danielson. Danielson's the bully.
Danielson.
Why?
I mean, for a list of reasons.
Let's start at the very beginning of the movie.
That's a great place to start.
Usually.
Why was he there?
Why did they move city?
He and his mom, I don't think it's explained
but the movie begins with them leaving New York,
him and his mom, they drive all the way across the country.
And 17 kids running after the car.
It's like, why are you lazy?
like with that said
there's a very depressing
leave to wherever you're leaving they don't see
New York or New Jersey I'm guessing it's somewhere
in the East Coast but he literally
has his friends running
after their Volkswagen
with his bike on the top of it
with which they're going to drive across the country
17 kids going
Dale no
come back and they didn't just drive off
like what a depressing scene to
I mean I got to say that would make me feel beloved
that doesn't actually happen like
Kids don't actually run after you the whole car.
But I think it's because I think he was getting in trouble.
I think he was, all those kids loved him because he was a badass little kid in New York wherever he was from.
All right, so that goes in.
He's a disgruntled youth.
They have to move across the country because he's messing up in school, probably getting in fights, just like he did at the regular school.
I mean, from the jump.
You're right.
Let's look at Johnny.
Let's just talk about Johnny for just a second.
All right, I will.
Johnny starts, he is an accomplished martial artist.
He's been doing his entire life.
He's clearly skilled.
He's been a degenerate, you know.
Everyone loves a comeback story, you know.
Johnny was a troubled youth.
You know, he was a bully growing up, but it was a senior year.
He was ready to turn things around.
Yeah.
He even said, he was like, whoa, an ex-degenerate.
I'm not a degenerate anymore.
Whoa, I don't get in fights anymore.
I'll pick out.
Hey, I'm cool.
You guys are all, all his friends were hot heads, but he was cool about everything.
while everyone was starting to fight
for that juiced out weird blonde dude
was trying to fight people?
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
What was Johnny doing?
Meet head mac in the group over there.
Johnny's hanging out back.
He was a little bit crazy.
Yo, I'm saying.
So his friends were conversational.
And we all know who that guy ends up being in life.
We've seen the guy who intentionally
bumps somebody at the bar
and they're like, yo, what's up?
And he's like, do!
And he immediately turns up from like 10 to 100.
Head bust somebody?
Yeah, just like, whoa, yo, you want to fuck with this right now?
You know how crazy you?
You don't get me?
Like, that guy, that's where that guy's going.
He's definitely that guy the group.
It's very true.
So let's just go straight to it.
The first altercation.
Yeah.
So after Danielson's been weirdly like stalking his girlfriend and staring at her for a while, it's really awkward.
It's like flirting, I guess, as a kid that were staring at each other.
Yeah.
He was like, staring at this dude's girlfriend.
The first altercation, you know, Johnny was kind of being a dick about the radio thing, whatever.
But he comes up and Danielson immediately gets mad and he starts to fight.
And what does Johnny do?
What does Johnny do?
What does he do?
I'm sorry.
All he does is trip him.
Danielson attacks, he trips him.
He's like, I'm a Marshaugh's master.
He's like, I don't mess with this.
He comes back, does it again.
Realizes Danielson didn't get a stop
when he finally gives him a front cake.
Bam, dude, back up.
And then when he goes over to check on him, he's like,
yo, I'm sorry, man.
That was mean.
He went down to reach and help him up,
and Danielson's sucker punches it.
I'll give you that.
Are you kidding me?
Yo, are you kidding me?
You're missing a lot, but go ahead.
Okay, wait, real quick, okay.
I'm just saying.
Okay.
All right, let's, let's go.
First of all, Annie with an eye and Johnny were broken up.
Allie.
Allie with an eye.
Which, by the way, I got to say, when he asked her a name and she said,
Allie with an eye, that's my kind of shit right there.
That kind of thing gets me right there.
That's flirting.
That's one of those, like, intelligent little flirt notes.
And then he said Daniel with an L.
what do you think about that comeback?
That's a great comeback, actually.
Is it?
It's clever.
Did she laugh at it? Did she laugh at it?
You know what? It worked.
That's my kind of style right there.
That's my kind of line.
I'm with Daniel.
First of all, they had never seen each other.
They're at the beach with a random group of people that they never see each other.
And then he sees her like, oh, hold up.
She's looking good.
Sees her at the beach.
kicking a ball, play soccer.
He sees her.
They go all the way to the night of which there's fires now happening.
Yeah.
Now they're looking at each other.
Like his first day in town.
By the way, can we go back to the days where we hang out, play football all day,
then have bonfires at the beach
and like that sounds like a great experience
we should do it we do we said
bombfires of the bar
yeah that's at the bar
there's a beach right here
there's a beach right there's a beach
upstairs all right so they have a bobfire
he finally introduces they meet each other
after he stares out for like eight hours
yeah but there's a back and forth
there was a long stare for a while
that was just a little
don't spend some game
why you
he took a while
what you're scared this is what
this is exactly what just one was saying
as they're watching he's like they haven't talked yet
It's not like there was a bunch of people
It was like a group of like five dudes and like three girls
The whole day into the night
They were just both kind of like
Oh like look at her
Look at him
And then he throws a soccer
What about it throws a soccer ball
He's home dude kicks a soccer ball at him
Which the hottest girl in the group goes
Oh
And then they start talking
And now dad
Not only that
She comes in with
And this is something I've noted from 80s movies
The hot girl in the group
never in real life just approaches with all the pieces you need she's just literally like oh
i think this is your soccer ball how do you juggle can you show me can you teach me she just like
gives him all the tools to like start working on game the popular girls is immediately and yeah and
it just happens to be like the hottest girl there and everything like that and it just like falls
and he's just like yeah well i just do this and i yeah so okay of which now johnny and his boys
roll up in motorcycles on the beach all the johnny and his boys
Making them awesome
Yeah, gangster as hell
Sounds really cool
I'm trying to hang out with these kids
Which by the way, they're all white
Except for one guy
I think we'll get there
We'll get to that point
Yeah yeah
Which is right as a more as like us too
That'll be his 80s
Yeah yeah
Yeah
Yeah
Well, Alex
Which doesn't age well in this movie
So
So they roll up in motorcycles
Johnny decides to turn off
Allie
Allie with an eye
She turned off her radio
Of which she turns it on
And says, leave me alone
He turns it back on
She turns it back off
He turns it back on
She turns it back off
He then picks up the radio
And destroys
Grunk spikes that shit
He doesn't destroy it
Not he grunks spiked it
He tried to
And slams it down to the ground
Cameron
It's sand
And you know how bulletproof
Those boom boxes used to be
In the 80s
We all used to have those boom boxes
They were
Disrupted
And that shit would get
They were stainless still.
I can kind of back him up because, and this is a true story, I was on a date one time.
And, you know, Johnny was just trying to flirt.
I was on a date.
I was trying to flirt.
We are Dave and Busters.
We were picking out prizes and there was like a whole entire bin full of footballs.
And I just started like tossing about her to get her to catch one.
And she just wouldn't catch it.
And I just kept throwing balls.
And I thought it was really cute.
I was flirting.
But it just was not flirting.
But I just think Johnny was flirting.
I don't know.
He was an aggressive.
I think he gotta got a little carry away.
I'll give it to this.
They are the high school kids, so there's a good chance that the line between being a dumb meathead and flirting is thin at that age.
It is.
He's 16, 17.
Yeah.
The radio actually does survive this first slam.
It does.
Daniel's son comes and picks it up.
He's like, you shouldn't be slammy at least radio or whatever.
Yeah.
Of which Johnny decides to at this point, he gets him on the ground.
Of which your sucker punch does happen.
Because he goes to help him, and he goes, and he hits him to the face.
At that point, they were fully on, like, fight mode.
Like, he was, like, standing in front of him.
He was, like, Danielson snapped, and he tried to attack him,
and he was like, what?
And he was stab out of the way and trip him.
No, man, the radio.
That's exactly what happened.
On the radio.
I'm going to just say this.
I had heard this theory.
This has been, like, a popular theory I've seen around there.
I think I've actually seen the exact same video of referring to.
That was, like, Danielson is actually the bully here.
So I came into the movie, ready to make that our,
too. So I watched very closely
the whole scene and everything. That scene really kind of
encompasses the whole like argument
as to who's the bully. And
I gotta be honest dude, Johnny's the dick in that scene.
He's not.
A redeemable asshole, dude.
After this all happens, Cameron,
they get all their motorcycles and decide to
ride their motorcycles over the radio.
Johnny hits the radio again
just to make sure that he
fucks the radio up.
You can't get no, Johnny.
Put dirt on Daniel, who's now his face into the dirt, put dirt on it with his war.
And then, and then he has to go to school with these kids, and they are just a nonstop fuck troupe for the next, like, two months.
Like, in all the foreseeable future, every time they see him.
Because his friends that he originally had, stopped hanging out with him the moment he got his ass kicked.
The moment he got his ass kicked.
There's this amazing scene.
It's very, like, almost.
missable, but it just had me cracking
up. When Daniel wants to, like,
join a karate club, he walks in the
Cobur Kai, and then he sees Johnny, and he's like,
oh, this fucking guy again, and he leaves,
and then he goes and has lunch with his mom.
And there's just this random scene,
nothing particular about it, but him and his
mom are just having lunch in the diner,
and then the Cobur Kai are, like, getting
out of the class, and just in the background.
It's very small, but they
just kind of like start looking, and they're pointing,
and they run over, and they get Johnny back,
and then they're like, oh, there are he.
is and then they all walk away
and that's it like it doesn't
blame to anything dude
it's just like them like local like
cobra kai ends up being
everywhere in this movie
everywhere they go and I pointed that out
to Justin as we're watching he's like oh it's a small town
and I'm like it's a Los Angeles
dude it's like the biggest town in the
country and everywhere
Daniel goes
Cobur Kai is just kind of there like Johnny's just
there they go to Halloween party
well hold on golf and stuff
there everywhere they go they're just
encountered anywhere he's hanging out in school
they're just in the same vicinity like yeah you can't avoid
these guys but you brought up a good point
so after the fight
the first thing Danielson does is go to the same
dojo as him he's like no I'm gonna fight now
I want to learn how to fight you are you kidding he didn't know it was
so he just got to a fight and went and bought a gun like are you kidding
he didn't know he wanted to learn karate
that's ridiculous he didn't know protect yourself
he's what to protect himself so go to one of
the many thousands of dojoes in the greater hell of years.
No, he doesn't know it's so he walks in there.
It's Coburkeye!
He doesn't know that he's part of Cobbri-Ri.
He's still like brand new.
And then he sees jackets, they have headbands.
What are you talking?
Let's go to the point where, you know, they've been fighting.
There's the confrontation between Coburkeye's leader that weird steroid guy that keeps telling them.
Yeah, me head, Mac.
Oh wait, you're talking about the instructor.
The instructor.
The instructor.
Crease.
Yes, I looked up his name.
So there's the...
Which is weird, because his name's never actually said in the movie.
It's just one of those things where, like, the director knew his name, and he wrote it into the part.
So it's, like, in the script, Creece says this, but I don't ever think they...
They actually like to himself.
Yeah, I don't think so.
It's a great name.
I don't know.
It is a cool thing.
Yeah, it's possible I just missed it.
I don't know.
But, yeah, I was paying pretty close attention just now.
But let's kind of skip to the point where he tells all the Copacca, say, hey, don't mess with Daniel.
You know, it's hands off.
Yeah.
What does Daniel do?
he antagonizes them
from the jump
the next day he goes
hey watch this
oh after he caused
that big car accident
and all those kids
everyone's all busted up
he caused he caused that
after he sprayed water out of it
yo he caused a multi-car pile
of thousands of dollars
of the damage goes I noticed
and then he runs away
and gets away with this shit
and then and then the next day
he's like antagonizing these kids
oh don't run in front of the bus next time
I just I'm a psychopath
he does he does
that is a good good
point because like up until that point he starts taking the approach of like oh my way of dealing
with is I'm gonna run away and even at a certain point Ali's like hey don't you don't either run away
he's like hey I got my way in dealing things you got yours get off my back about it like he turns
into like the Italian stereotype day he literally says like get off my back about it and then
then that happens there's like the little meeting between Miyagi and crease the cobra kai master
He's like, hey, don't mess with him in school.
And you're right.
Then Daniel gets this bravado about him.
It's just like, hey, watch this.
I could just walk in front of him right now.
Yeah, he does do that.
But again, I got to point to the fact that we're talking about like 16, 17-year-olds
who don't necessarily know how to deal with these kind of things that are just like,
oh, now I got some comfort.
Watch me just take advantage of it.
Nobody's perfect at this movie.
Like, there's definitely like faults from every character, I could definitely say.
That's definitely something I would say.
But that's life.
That's life.
Let's take to the end real quick.
and how...
Wait, wait, hold on, I got one more point.
Oh, yeah.
What about the point at the Halloween party?
Yes.
When Johnny is in the stall rolling a J,
he is rolling a dooby,
and Danielson comes and pours water on it?
Are you doing?
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, before he pours water on him,
can we just say that Danielson had one of the most epic Halloween costumes
you could ever put her in.
That's Halloween costumes.
I mean, let's be honest, it's simple.
To this day.
And it's...
And it's just...
The ice...
The isolation technique alone.
Just walking around as a shower.
Walk around as a closed shower.
Oh, you want to come with a shower?
Super cumbersome.
Like, that would not be an easy way to make...
But everybody's noticing you, though.
I would definitely try to see how many girls I'd get in that shower.
That's the thing.
The ability to, like, just close the curtain off, like,
oh, no, no, it's a shower party.
Oh, like, yeah, it's actually a genius costume.
The only thing is Daniel,
he needs to go all out.
He's got like a football jersey underneath it.
Yeah.
Like it doesn't make sense.
You gotta go like rubber duckie.
Hold on.
Like a shower thing.
Put a towel around you.
Put a towel around you wear like a shower cat.
Go on robe.
Just go robe.
Or be naked in there like, you know, with like a shower.
Exactly.
So back to what camera was saying.
So first of all, who pours water on somebody this one's joint?
The guy I-
At that point.
He looked over and saw exactly what he was doing.
Okay.
And I'll tell you.
Yo, Jay.
Again, I was watching this movie from the respective looking for who's bullying who.
And at that point, think about this, he starts the new school.
When does school start?
Like late August, September.
Halloween, October 31st, that's when Halloween is.
At that point in the movie, every scene was just him encountering Cobra Kai.
From the beginning of the time when Johnny saw him talking to Allie with an eye.
Hittianist's girlfriend.
That was his ex.
She claims his ex, right from the get-go.
And she came up to Daniel.
And she initiated it.
At that point, all Daniel knows is, I just,
came to this new area. I've been hanging out of the beach all day. The hot girl in the group
is totally viving with me. And then his whole team shows up in a motorcycle.
Breaks the radio and music for the night.
Breaks the radio. Clearly establishes himself as the asshole. I'm gonna suck a punch the fuck
out of that bitch. Yeah. And then and then every time he went to school or anywhere
around there, they were jumping his ass. He... For eight weeks.
Hold on. Hold on. Hold on.
And then he sees, holy shit, I got this full in a stall. And there's a hose right here.
Like, yeah, I'm gonna take my shot real quick.
Okay. So,
instead of just, you know,
not talking to the one girl
is getting his ass kicked every day.
He continues to do it.
He's a sociopath.
He's a sociopath.
The highest girl's skills come up to me.
You want me to stop because you...
Because her ex is a psycho.
Go fuck yourself.
If the hottest girl in school is hitting on you,
then any other girl in high school
will probably like you too
because high school's a little chamber of weirdness.
If the hottest girl likes you,
then everyone's going to.
Number one wants me.
Yeah, why do I got to back up just because the X is being an asshole.
Because you're getting your ass kicked and he is literally.
Okay, well, fight it back and be like, he finds a hose over his fucking thing.
He finds a way around it, dude, he finds it.
Hose on a J.
Hose on a J. I'm doing it's all I'm doing.
And the ultimate thing that he finds that ends up working to his favor is that he discovers that his landlord.
Hold on, hold on, hold on.
The soup.
Oh, yeah, that's the way.
Mr. Miyagi.
All right, there's one more before.
There's got to be, because I know what to the segue is going.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You feel a segment coming, right?
There's got to be one thing that I say.
The biggest thing, the biggest farce of the whole movie in Y. Danielson is absolutely the antagonist.
Is, did anyone see how the scoring was at the last match?
Are you kidding me?
All right.
He got his assholes.
All right, we're going to get to that later.
Is that something else?
Yeah, yeah, no, no, no, no.
I will address that later.
That's ridiculous.
That's a good, that's a good, that's a good.
Ridicrous.
It's good set up.
We'll get to the scoring later because that's definitely a nitpick that needs to be.
very much discussed.
But the thing that actually
saves Daniel as he's getting his ass
kicked by Cobra Kai for the first several months
is he finally learns
that the guy who owns his complex
who's like the soup and like
fixes everything. The guy that apparently
fixes everything but the pool is not fixed
and when they first moved in
the first thing they realized was
the sink doesn't work. So
that alone, before we even get to
thing number two, I would like to just point out
Mr. Miyagi, very shitty
landlord. Like he's a shitty
attended. He's not a good
head man for your place. Yeah.
The pool doesn't work. The pool doesn't have water
in. Before you move in, your sink doesn't work.
Yeah. Missy Miyagi, do your fucking work. Then he goes to
ask him. Stop cutting trees. The first scene
you see. Trying to get flies.
Yeah, the first scene that we meet Miyagi,
Daniel's trying to ask on behalf of his mom like, hey,
the sink doesn't work. You're going to fix it. And he's just sitting there with
his chopsticks trying to catch a fly. And he's like,
yeah, I get to it.
And he's like, okay, cool, when are you going to get to?
He's like, uh, after I'm done.
And he's like, after you've done what?
He's like, yeah.
And he just keeps trying to catch a fly.
Like, at that point right there, if I'm moving in a new place, I'm like, I think my landlord sucks.
Which leads us into thing number two.
Thing number two.
Number two.
Mr. Miyagi, who are you?
Mr. No, no.
Think number two, we got to be, did Mr. Miyagi's training, would that actually work?
Would that actually make you a karate master?
Thing number two.
I mean, I just said thing number two.
I know.
I just want to have it.
I like you said.
Oh.
Out there to do.
Would Mr. Miyagi's training actually work to make you a karate master?
Like all of it.
So you're talking about his laziness.
So basically...
Lasiness as a handyman.
Yeah.
His ability to make Daniel's son do all the chores of his house
and then make that seem like it's part of his workout
of his training.
Do you remember when he beat up all the
Kobri-Kai kids?
Yes, I do.
Okay, and honestly, let's just say this.
The scene where Miyagi beats up
all the cobra Kai to save Danielson
is honestly
the only redeeming scene
of the entire movie
that allows Miyaki
to kind of do all his shit-back behavior.
Like, we start by seeing
kind of a shitty landlord
doesn't really take care of his place
very well.
he has people move into us place that doesn't have a working sink
the pool the pool doesn't have water in a whole complex like how hard is that heavy man
like yeah it's summer it was hot it is summer it was clearly how hard would it be just
just take a hose to it for like a whole day whatever that's all you had to do that's all you had to do
and he's just very lazy well it's a little bit more complicated than that so then so then he basically
up until that point, he seems kind of worthless, you know, and like he has a few interactions
to Daniel, including him seeing Daniel as he walks in to fix the sink. He's like working his
karate and he's like, oh, you're learning karate out of a book? And he's like, yeah, yeah. And he's like,
really working his ass off. And he says it doesn't do anything about it. Then he ends up saving him.
So that's the redeeming scene that he has, that one scene, right? When he beats up children, what are we
talking about? They were about to five, Daniel. Five, five. Five on one.
who have been training and are like really legitimate training like in their scene that they like
that he has him going those boys are all like he's a yeah yeah yeah yeah those guys are disciplined
I will I'll give it to him that he's an old guy but first of all you can't beat up kids like
I don't care how many kids are all I'm gonna beat the shit everyone masked on how is he supposed to
know what age they were well here's a thing attacking the man that he because they're kids they were
fucking with Danielson what are they a bunch of adults messing with a kid and it's
Well, it's established earlier that Miyagi hears all.
Like, there's a bunch of scenes earlier where, like, they have conversation,
and then Miyagi just kind of walks out and just, like, looks like, he walks out, like, okay.
Daniel's son is being harassed at school.
Okay.
So, outside of that scene where he fucks them all up, then, Daniel's like, I didn't know you knew karate.
And he's like, well, you never asked.
It's like, well, that's not a question you ask people, though.
The book of him trying to learn karate for him.
from a book, why would you be like,
yo, I can hook you up.
Yo, by the way, I'm a karate master, actually.
No, he didn't bring it up then.
Then he offers to train Daniel,
cut to then him doing a month worth,
which is, by the way, the longest part of the movie.
There's like an hour straight of just him training Daniel
via him fixing shit in his house.
Let's start with the beginning.
He washes cars with wax on, wax off.
Wax on, wax off.
Then he goes to the floors of...
Hasn't like shaved down the floors or whatever.
that is like wagging on the floor and then he goes paint the fence
open down open down paint the fence and the last one paint the house
left to right yeah and at this point if I'm Daniel rightfully so he's just
getting pissed because I'm like okay I think I'm the time
he's done he's just using me now as like a like a free way to get his house and
shit in order like that's all this is like he's freaking out so then of course it
turns out that very legendary probably possibly the most legendary
thing about the movie that's like stood the dust of time
is that he was training him to do
karate without actually teaching him how to
do karate but here's my question
wouldn't it have just been easier to
teach him that shit in karate like
he wouldn't have got his house painted maybe
but like you could have just hey
just keep doing up down like you could have just
trained him and that he was hungry
it's not like you need to trick him to learn karate
he wanted to learn this shit
would he have gotten this house painted
no no no that's what he had his house
he saw it as a way to look
he was got in his wood to read
done. We have got cars washed.
I don't think so. No, he found a way to
loophole all the shit he needs to get done around the house.
Do you think Mr. Miyagi's old ass was going to do
all that stuff? No chance. Absolutely.
No, no. You figured out. I mean.
Especially his drunk ass who was
he was drunk throughout the entire movie.
And then it was like, drunk about his wife and was like,
uh-huh.
And just doing crazy shit.
There was a scene of that movie.
Yeah.
Where Missy Miyagi is an absolute alcoholic drunk.
And you're just like, and Daniel son is 16 and a half
like, what is Mr. Miyagi doing over here?
Why am I hanging out with this old ass man?
That's my only friend.
That brings me to this question.
Why is Mr. Miyagi Daniel's only friend?
Like, he is a very sociable guy.
We didn't actually answer the last question.
What was the last one?
Oh, if it would work.
And I do think all of those things would be effective.
I'm a pop-winter football coach.
And, I mean, we spend, like, maybe, there's a two-hour practice.
We spend 20 to 30 minutes running play.
the rest of it is just working on technique getting their knees high you know getting
them to run through stuff you know getting getting their bodies more athletic and
essentially when he was doing all that wax on wax awesome I mean we even if you painted a
house shit's that shit sucks like it's gonna make you stronger you know when you
block somebody you know and then when he did start teaching him the actual karate's
hide of it you're telling me it seemed like it was like four minutes of it like so
Cameron said like two minutes of actual karate training Cameron is saying that
Smiaghi's techniques work.
Of course.
I mean, it's how anyone trains children.
You don't train kids by going to run this play.
You train him by getting their knees up, getting their agility good.
So when you tell them to do something, they're better at it.
Let me ask you this.
As a Pop Warner coach, one of your kids is on the field.
He's running.
Out of nowhere.
He hurts his leg.
Okay.
Will you then run onto the field and go and put your hands on whatever he just injured?
And that it will be completely healed.
According to Mr. Miyagi, this is a completely perfect.
And you just said that Mr. Miyagi's techniques work.
First of all, it depends on what kid it is.
If it's like my starting running back or my quarterback and be like,
you're healed, young man, get in the game, you know?
Like just like a placebo, just like get in their head.
Well, that's what I think Mr. Miyagi was doing.
Like, oh, you're good now.
This brings me to my theory.
Children are very easy to be manipulated, by the way.
Definitely.
But here's a little thing.
I have. Was Mr. Miyagi
just like his magic
guardian angel the whole time?
When you think about the way that he's
able to just do like multiple times in the movie
he does this thing, the end of the movie
when he's like got a serious knee injury
and they're like, oh no, he's out of the competition. He like broke his leg.
And then all they show is Miyagi do one of these
and they don't even show him to touch him and then like the next scene he's like, no,
no, no, Daniel's good, he's good to go.
So apparently Miyagi has this magic touch
and he also happens to be there.
Every time Daniel has a conversation
that needs to be overheard, he just pops out.
True.
And he just always, he's there when he saves him,
when he's getting chased down by five kids
in skeleton costumes, who's there to rescue him?
But that's the only part that kind of messes it up
because Mr. Miyagi actually beats his shit out.
No, no, no, he exists.
He's not like invincible.
He exists, but he exists as his guardian angel
because literally when you think about it,
this kid's basically getting like the worst
other than meeting the hot new girl named Allie with an eye.
Everything is going bad for him that he's getting attacked by these
Cobra Kai everywhere he goes.
And then the one thing that's rescuing him is he has this guardian angel random guy
who sucks as the soup of the building.
Terrible maintenance man, gosh.
But he just happens to be a karate master who's everywhere that has saves him.
He has all the oil.
He has all the oil.
Can we just give him credit for giving Daniel son a fantastic,
yellow whatever the hell car he gave you literally says pick one he says what is mr.
miagi's do that he has like six cars by the way danielsen picks the first car there was a black
car about three or four cars down there i looked at i was like shiny oh that the fourth one is
where i wouldn't pick the yellow one either the yellow was that where you want to go no he was trying to
be like that's i don't know he's daniel son i don't know what he's daniel son but and then with mr biagi
it all it is also disappointing to state that the actor what
What is his name?
Pat Marito.
Pat Marito.
Also used to play Arnold.
Unhappy Days.
Oh, yeah.
Has no idea anything about martial arts or karate.
Based on our half-ass internet research.
We did about five minutes of research.
And from that research, this man does not know karate.
He just looks like a dude who can fucking hang out.
He's an actor.
Yeah.
Yeah, well, whatever, man.
I thought this man was number one karate other than Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee.
It was in fucking Mr. Biassie.
That's what it is.
And then after that, it was.
Jackie Chair
No, no, no, it was the turtles.
What is Charlie Stirls?
Ninja Turtles?
The Troolers was the rat.
Splinter.
Splinter.
There were four Splinter.
Honestly, I think Splinter, I never actually thought about it, but he was basically
like a rehash of Mr. Miyagi.
Like, he was just like, Mr. Miyagi and rat form.
And he was like, that was like who he was built after, you know, like this wise old man.
And the thing is, we looked at.
With, by the way, Donatello.
Don't, I just kidding.
I'm trying to go.
You don't have a Donatello point?
That was actually in this.
But Amosvenner.
It's going to David Turtles.
But no.
It's real out of nowhere.
What we realize in watching this is the amount of actual wisdom that Miyagi shares
compared to like the chaos that just comes out of his mouth that means nothing is not the ratio you want.
They keep bringing in that like kind of Japanese flute that's just like,
loo-woo.
Like you think you're just hearing wisdom.
It makes a good point.
Yeah.
The flute comes in.
But like he says a lot of things.
things that don't really make sense.
And then when he gets hammered and he's, by the way, encouraging, he keeps telling Daniel
like, oh, you're checking some more.
So he's trying to get a 16-year-old hammered with him in his little, like, dojo thing.
Well...
Which brings me to a point.
Where is Danielson's mom while he's hanging out with this old man?
She disappears, like, halfway through the movie, actually.
She's like...
She's making it work.
She's out of the pin for the bicycle.
She's actually, like, the coolest mom ever.
Like, she's actually awesome.
We'll get to her as well.
Between his crazy advice that doesn't work and like when he gets hammered and he just starts walking around.
Okay, also, when he does, every time he tells him I do wax on and wax off,
he walks away back to the house with Daniel's back to him and he just continues going,
wax on, wax on, wax off, wax on.
But like nobody's looking at that point.
That's just his mind.
And at this point, Daniel doesn't know he's teaching him karate with it.
Like, you got to be thinking, I think the guy that I'm kind of working for right now is insane.
He's like hypnotizing.
Yeah.
And then when he gets hammered, he starts, like, shouting random shit about Germany.
Like, oh, Germans, blah, blah, blah.
And he sees, like, I think newspaper clippings or something that shows that he was, like, part of the war or something.
So, like, World War II reference.
Yeah, so at that point, you start thinking, like, yo.
Well, Mr. Miyagi's wife died in an interment cap.
Which he learned.
She was pregnant and she died in it.
Like in American internment camp?
American internment camp.
Which, oh, my God.
He learned.
And she was pregnant, and he learned that through a letter that was given to him by the United States.
No, because he was holding it as he passed out drunk.
Was he in the war?
Yeah, that's what the word is.
Was he fighting for America?
Yeah.
Yeah, because it's funny.
This is one of the questions I have to have yet.
Is that did Miyagi as the angel, as this guardian angel, set up everything around him so Daniel could learn about him without asking?
Because in one moment, he passes out drunk.
he's holding after he was just looking at a picture of his wife
and he's like oh who's that oh is that your wife oh okay
then he passes out holds a note
pulls it out of his hand then he reads that that's what that note says
which is why is he even like holding a note that says
when his wife and his child died that's weird
then he looks right next to the bed and there's like a purple heart
of like his time in the war so like did miaki just set everything up
around him to be like this is how you learn about like
that's very guardian angel shit is all I'm saying
And with that, why couldn't he fix the pool during the summer in California?
Why the fuck was the pool?
The pool was completely dirty in California.
It didn't even have any water.
It was like a dirty pot.
It was very disappointing.
I feel like he could have consolidated some of those oil cans.

He can sold three of those oil cans and fixed the pool.
What was he doing with those oil cans?
There was 150 of them.
Quench oil and like oil people
Right next to a railroad track
And it's like gotta be like where he's getting his money from
Because it sure is not as being a...
Maybe that
Maybe he's collecting
Oil out of one of those little things
With all those cans
That's what he was doing
Instead of getting a 55 gallon drum
Yeah
Like a human being
He's using these little gallon drum thing
Yeah
Like 150
It looked like Ryus level
And street fighters
One of those pumps
Pumping a little
wherever he was and the house was right next to it was number three all right uh i mean i think
i don't know we can't want to definite answer dude okay let's just do just do one word
summary do you think mr miagi's training of painting and waxing was effective yes yes but not
the the hand thing that was my thing is just uh could he not have just trained him first
with the moves and then said now do this to
work on it? No. And if Daniel
knew, because, like, look, we don't know
this. That's not how it's going to help you block. Yeah.
So do this. Now, this is all the way around the thing. He wanted
to get good. He wanted
to get good at it. You wrestled.
You wrestled. You wrestled.
Yes, I wrestled. So,
is the first thing when you got to wrestling practice, did you guys just start
sparring and start working on moves, or did you start
conditioning and start working on your technique? Yeah, but if I
need, the conditioning was
for my wrestling and not for helping
the coach's house to get
painted. I would be like more
I would make sure my technique is more right.
If I'm like, okay, this is a good practice
for it. By the way, you could also paint.
At that point, he's got to know that Daniel's
thinking, I'm just getting
you to fuck with my house. You told me
this is going to help me do this better.
Okay, cool. Yeah, I'm going to
make sure that I'm practicing. I would have been
way mad. You didn't have to keep it a secret. I would have
a half-ass, but painting of the
wall and everything. I would have done a half-ass.
For sure. Be like, this guy is making
me do his house. Fuck this guy.
However, I-
But if he tells me, this is going to strengthen you to be able to block all moves this way.
I'm paying the shit out of the house.
But there is that moment where he snaps and he's like, why the hell am I doing on your chores?
And then he goes, like, wax on, wax off.
And I will say this.
And he's-
And he's-
And he's-heases him.
Look, shut the hell up.
I know what I'm doing.
So this is one of those moments where you got to decipher reality from the movie.
Because the fact is, for the movie's sake, there's that realization that, like,
no, I've been training you without actually letting you know I've been training you.
That's what's made Mr. Miyagi a legend.
But even when we start, so we start a few months before we even get pads and stuff like that, so we're doing conditioning and stuff.
That's right now.
Those kids are pissed.
They're like, oh, I don't want to do this.
I don't want to play football.
We're not even, everyone's running plays and we're not even in pads.
I'm like, shut up.
It's fundamentals.
Like, I'm an adult.
I'm a coach.
You guys are children.
You don't know what you're talking about.
So I think you've got to start with the fundamentals.
Yeah.
You got to start with the fundamentals.
I think that brings us to number three.
So when it comes to thing number three of three things about this movie, I would like to introduce a little awards concept where we're going to give out some awards for some of the more memorable characters and moments of these films.
And we shall call these awards the thingies.
Ooh, the thingies.
Let's give out some thingies.
Let's give out a thingy or two.
Yes.
Let's do it.
Okay, so I got a couple of go-to awards that we're going to go.
And the first one is going to be called the LeBron Award.
And that one simply is the real MVP.
The Ruby of the Karate Kid.
Of Karate Kid.
Because, like, let's think about it.
Like, LeBron, he could win MVP every year.
But sometimes they give it to the flashy newcomer, the guy who's the new story.
But when it comes down to the grit and the grind of the story, who was the MVP of Karate Kid?
Mr. Miyagi.
Okay, I like it.
Mr. Miyagi?
I like it.
I mean, he's soft-spoken.
When he did a step up, he beat the shit out of the bunch of kids.
He's not afraid to beat up a kid.
He is sad commitment.
He's distributing his knowledge.
He's giving out cars.
He's making motherfuckers do his house chores.
And my whole thing is, he was super stoic when he needed to be, like, during the fights and stuff.
He never said anything.
He was just like, looks straight.
He just looks straight.
And then the camera look at him, and then dangerous stuff.
He'd be like, well, Mr. Biagi seems like he's chill about this.
That's where it is, because it really kind of put karate in the map, and it was partly because Miyagi made look, karate looks so cool.
He never panicked at any point, even when there was a group of kids around and he was fucking him up and everything.
Like, yeah, he was fucking up kids.
Like, you just got the idea like, okay, this is what karate could be right here.
Even though the actual actor had no idea what karate was.
What a great actor?
Let me explain why that was good, because when you watched Miyagi, he made me.
karate looks so cool.
It worked better than having a guy who was a karate master.
Like that guy didn't need to know it.
They taught him a couple moves to like fuck up the cobra kite.
That's all he did the whole rest of the movie, he looked chill as fuck.
And he was just like spoke softly.
And he always just looked like he knew what the fuck he was doing.
He always on top of it.
He cut bonsai trees and shit, except for when he just actually got fucked up and was
ranting about Germany.
That was a bad luck.
Although he did try to catch flies for all his life, and then Danielson came in for about
10 seconds and snagged one.
And he didn't even give him props about it.
He didn't even give him props and walked away.
He was like, big in his luck.
Yeah, yeah, that was bad luck.
He was like, he probably pissed.
Like, you fuck-ass bitch.
He was dead.
He was naked.
Exactly.
That's another reason why Danielson is the villain.
Little fuckboy comes in and gets the house.
What is he supposed to do?
He was supposed to go.
He was trying to get a fly, bro.
He got a fourth try.
It was a fourth try.
All right.
I got a one.
Four tries.
All right.
I got an underrated.
So we all agree.
MVP goes to him.
Mr. Miyagi?
I do, but I got an underrated MVP.
I like it.
Golf and stuff.
Oh.
Dude, golf and stuff wins this movie.
It's just the go-to spot.
It's the best date.
Daniel takes Allie with Nye and the best date ever.
Great date.
They're like playing minigov.
They be on the go-cards.
They're doing like air hockey.
They were on the boat.
That little boat things.
They're in like they're two-seat and one.
You know, like, they were driving the race car.
Yeah.
You look on everything.
They're going to talk dance.
And it just becomes like the go-to spot to hang out.
And we've all had experience at golf and stuff out here.
And the real MVP part about it is it seems exact same.
It's in the movie still.
There's a picture's up.
But you can do all the same thing.
It's got the same sign and everything.
When I found it, we took our Pop Warner kids there, and I lost my mind.
I was like, oh my God, this is where a Karate Kid did it.
And I went and reenacted it with one of the kids.
He's like, get on me.
Go there.
Did you guys remember Ali is actually over Daniel?
Yes, she gets, she shows him out of fucking man.
But she's actually showing him.
Well, because she's taller in him.
Well, whatever it is.
The girl is over the guy.
I'm okay with a girl wanting to do that, though.
I'm afraid of it.
Hey, why don't you teach me how to putt, actually?
You say you got to get struck, right?
Hey, get in here and cooking her quick.
I can go with that.
It's all in there.
All right, so, Miss Miyagi.
Mr. Miyagi and golf and stuff.
And low-key golf and stuff.
All right.
Stuff for sure.
I like that.
All right.
Next is the off-the-bench award.
We're still debating on the name.
I want to call the Alex Caruso Award as a Ligger fan.
Justin's telling me...
Classic.
Justin's telling me Alex Cruz is not big enough.
He knows him.
Tony Coo-Cooch.
And he wants to call the Tony Cooch Award, which I can respect because that's like...
With a little symbol off the sea.
The point is, a guy that comes off the bench in the movie,
and every scene counts.
Everything he does, I'm saying he
Paul Pierce.
Paul Pierce was a star, he was a stud, dude.
Going back to Karate Kid,
the Tony Kookew coach, Alex Caruso,
who's the tipper, who's the clippers guy?
Lou Williams.
Lou Williams guy.
He should call it the Lou Williams award.
That's what they should be.
That guy.
I'm determining right now, it's Lou Williams.
The Lou Williams Award goes to the Luke Skywalker,
Cobre Kui actor,
who comes in,
and like is protective of Daniel
son but then breaks his knee
and then apologizes
and then he still broke his knee though
he broke his knee though I just guy is
like he's not gonna be a walking in nowhere
I mean he was because
you know Miyagi did his
angel shit well I think it was a
that was a little placebo thing you can trick little kids
you know what I'm saying you're like oh you pour some water on it
you're like it's fine look it feels better right
get in the game come on yeah okay
so you know that's just and by the way
Luke Skywacker is just what we were calling
him as we were watching it because he looks kind of like Lou
X guy. He was basically like the
the Cooper Cry kid with Mercy.
He was the one with the conscience. Yeah, yeah.
When they were beating him up at the skeleton costume
she was the one that was like, no man he's had enough
and then Johnny's like no fuck
that he needs more and he
was the one. He needs to stop messing with us.
He's gonna keep coming back. Let's fuck his ass up.
But let's not look too. It's what I would do.
Let's not look too finally at him because he did still
fuck up Daniel's knee. So like he didn't
He was instructing.
He apologized right afterwards. He didn't do it on purpose.
He was told, and he looked at him, and the coach was like, you got a problem with that?
Yeah, yeah, the coach was.
And he's like, I mean, I guess.
Which brings me.
I mean, he's been doing it for years.
Which is why my.
Lou Williams Award goes to crease.
The Cobra Chi coach, he makes that whole movie happen.
Like, he is the deriving force of evil that makes sure that you know this is the bad guy.
Like, he is nonstop.
First of all, he has those kids in check.
Like, when we.
watch their like, like practice, they are just all like, hi, yeah, ha, hey, ha, hey, like, and you know what?
That's how champions get made.
If what you want to do is be a champion in karate, you go to this guy's dojo, because look
at what he's got to everybody doing.
You know what I love, I just notice, think about how both like the coach figures in this
thing, they were both just like very, meant a few words.
And I feel like he, like, Creasy had even fewer words than Mr. Miyagi.
And they had that.
And he was just defining their both just.
Yeah.
That's what I'm saying.
Like those two, the movie ultimately comes down to them too.
It's like, you have two ways of being.
Okay, so you're a karate master in life.
There's two ways you can go about it.
You be the docile calm.
I don't even really bring this shit up,
but if you want to fuck with it,
I'll teach you how to be a karate master approach.
And then there's the, you will fucking show no mercy.
You will win.
You will work your ass off.
You will do 60 push-ups right now because I decided to fuck you.
On your knuckles!
Sweep the leg.
Sweep the leg.
Which, by the way,
I have a Cobra Kai costume.
I've worn it out for Halloween several times.
The number one thing that gets told to me over and over again
is everybody comes up to me and says,
Scoop the leg, Johnny.
For years, I just thought that was a line from this movie,
and I watched it, and it's never said.
He just says, Swift the Leg.
He just tells Johnny to sweep the leg.
He doesn't ever say sweep the leg, Johnny.
It was ad-lived in there after he says, sweep the leg.
I think somebody just shouted it out in there.
Sweep the leg, Johnny.
Wait, does Cameron have a, yeah?
I was going to agree with you.
and say it was Luke Skywalker.
Luke Skywalker.
I mean, you know, he had a conscience.
He was like,
I'm sorry.
He's a good character.
Almost shout out to, uh...
But still kind of a punk, bitch.
I'm sorry, Jackie.
Just don't get him that hard.
Yeah, yeah, you didn't have to do it.
But, uh, also honorable mention shoutout goes to Daniel's mom,
who was just the coolest mom, the whole movie.
Like, she was just chill.
Absent?
What?
She wasn't in the movie.
But she was?
She kind of discused.
appears, but every time she's in,
and they had to sit in the front scene.
Yeah, every scene she's in, she's very likable
and just like a cool mom and like just very positive.
Which, by the way, can we jump to that scene real quick
where his mom drives him to pick her up
at her rich alley with an eye,
rich parents' house, of which Allie gets in the car,
the car doesn't start, and then Daniel's son
and her mom have to then push the car
of which then Allie needs to put it in the gear.
As they're leaving the rich parents' house
to leave to go on the date.
What an amazing, like,
broke ass.
Go for her.
She's so, but she's so cool about it.
And they had the greatest date on golf and stuff.
Dude, right after that.
Yeah, she had to love the whole family at that point
because, like, she's just cool.
Like, she could have made that awkward for her,
but the way she asks, like, hey, do you know how to work a stick shift?
All right, when it gets in a year two, then you pop it.
Like, she just makes it fun.
And she, like, gets her, like, oh, yeah, I'm helping.
Like she's cool mom.
Can you drive a stick?
Yeah.
Good.
Put it a second.
Let it roll.
When I say pop it, pop it.
Pop it.
All right.
Don't worry.
It's all under control.
She's cute.
Happens all the time.
Rob, hi.
She's just as cool as mom as I think you'll find him yet.
Except for what she was letting him hang out with an old guy that beats a little kid.
Yeah.
Who's getting him drunk, by the way.
Yeah.
That's hammered.
There's plenty of ways you can.
The 80s.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You're talking to.
It was fucking weird, yeah.
All right.
So that brings me to the Kirstie Alley Award, which is the things that have not aged the best.
By the way, I'm open to coming up with new names for this, but that was the first one.
I came over my mind.
I would say all the haircuts in this movie, both male and female.
But both male and female, all the haircuts in this movie.
80s haircuts are old.
80s, they're not making it like comeback.
Do not make it like a 20-20 comeback.
like, oh, we're going back to the age
and Twent. Please don't.
Daniel's mom
definitely could use a better girl.
Daniel's mom and crease
at the exact same haircut.
They have the same haircut.
Who's that?
Dries.
Daniel's mom and crease
have the same haircut.
Johnny's haircut?
Yeah, just flap of Harrison
on top of his head.
Castle pointed out halfway
during the fighting scene at the end.
He goes, I think Johnny get a haircut
halfway in his fighting scene.
Yeah, yeah.
I swear his hair's longer
earlier in the movie.
here's another scene that was just kind of looking at it just me and just said just kind of
notice when he's when he's teaching miagi's teaching him how to like do the wax on wax off
for some reason Daniel keeps just going down right in front of miagi and then he's just like
he holds it there for a second and he just like no
get done that bring it up here he literally does it like three times in a row he just drops
down in front of him and then like and all you just see daniel's head go down right in front
of miagi and he just like no
No, not yet.
You do it up here.
And he does, like, teaches him the wax on and wax on.
Yeah, no.
It's so funny.
Like, it was supposed to be, like, an end-do-endo?
Like, no, because you do it on the floor.
So he goes down and do it.
Yikes.
Yeah.
Welcome to the 80s.
It says a funny thing.
Okay, so, yeah, to me, though, cities of care of the alley.
And then another one that hasn't, that hasn't aged well is the fact that the entire
Copa Kai is all basically the Aryan race.
They're all just white kids with blonde hair.
Oh, it did not age well.
One kid on there that's very low key.
That's just a black kid.
And the only things that, I swear the only, because he's never,
he was never there when they were like hanging out in the school or anywhere else.
He's in two seats.
He's in two seats.
Okay.
So when they're all in the dojo and they're like line up and they're like,
you and you get in there.
And they get him and one of the white blonde kids.
and he gets fucked up immediately.
Yeah.
And then the only other scene he's in
is when they're doing the tournament at the end.
And I'm pretty sure he goes against Daniels.
And Daniel fucks him up immediately.
It's the match that Daniel son wins really fast.
Which brings me to this.
He finally gets his shit together and the little black kid.
Yeah, no, this is one of those movies
that definitely makes me understand
why people who grew up in the 80s
hated white people.
Yeah.
It's not the best white people
movie, like, even, like, Ali's
parents, that little, like,
dance they go to, and ever, whatever. Like, everybody
in Cobra Kai is that same, like,
asshole 80s character
with a blonde hair, with, like, the hair that they got to, like, shake off,
like, Justin Bieber style, you know? Or headbands
all the time. Yeah, well, I mean, I'm into headbands,
but, like, they had that, like, they were
given headbands a bad look, which is...
Yeah, so you're also white.
Don't bring that up. I think it's, like a California
white guy, they're like...
They give... A lot of...
A lot of credence to why white people were hateable in the 80s.
The only cool people in the movie are all non-white.
You got, I want to say Ralph Machio.
You know, he's obviously like Italian.
His mom's not white.
I mean, they're like Italian.
According to the camera, Johnny's a great guy.
According to his bully.
Well, you definitely don't actually like Johnny.
Johnny's very unlikable this movie.
Well, he tried to turn it all around.
He's trying to better himself.
I don't recall him saying that.
He says that he goes, your, his buddy, or Luke Scott Wars,
was like you're a degenerate.
He goes, whoa.
He's like,
I'm my next degenerate, bro.
It's my senior year.
Like, as of tomorrow, like,
I'm done being a day.
He doesn't do a good job.
He was very standoffice.
Watch the movie.
He's very standoffice.
All his rage,
like,
Royd-raged friends are all freaking out.
He has all his boys together
and they're bullying one kid.
He said gang mentality.
It's high school.
I don't know.
There was groups
that they pick on people.
I was the game man.
I was the one getting that shit.
So you,
never mind.
What's your own damn fault.
The president was.
sad about cries. I don't know. I don't feel
like my school had bullies, so it was a little different.
Not to that degree. That's definitely something that
like the 80s presented that was a thing.
Like, they were like chasing him
around every single day. General
80s decade was not the best
exact display of white people.
For any reason, there was like,
oh my gosh, the hair and the clothes.
That hair and the clothes, everybody
just being smart-y-ish.
High-wasted acid-washed
cheese. Yeah, there's something about 80s movies in that
genre right there. That love
I love to portray white people just the smarmiest people ever that just were always like entitled
asshole.
I don't know.
Like it's very easy to hate all those people.
Like that alone, that, that's the difference between honestly Daniel and Johnny is just like
Daniel's more likable because he's kind of this cool guy from New York.
Yeah.
No, it's just like he's got like he's got a quicker.
He relatable.
He has that great line that had us cracking up.
He's brown people.
When, when his alley with an eye first says like, oh yeah, that's my ex-boyfriend.
And then he just looks up and he's just like, oh, yeah, okay.
Well, he just starts talking to nothing.
And then he just goes, hey, that was the voice in my head telling me that maybe I shouldn't talk to you.
We're like, that's fucking genius, dude.
Like, Johnny didn't have been that cool, say that kind of shit.
Like, he didn't have that kind of cleverness.
Yeah, genius, except for the fact that he didn't stop talking to her and he continued to get his ass with.
No, he kept it going because he addressed it right there in a clever way.
That's my kind of thought.
Was she in Grotny Kid, too?
No, she wasn't.
She got kicked out immediately and they went to Japan.
And they broke up.
You know what that probably was?
They probably wanted her.
And then she wanted too much money or something.
For sure.
Here's real quick.
Are you talking about Smarmi and, like, white people and stuff?
Castle, I got quick question for you.
Where do you live?
I live in Marmosa Beach.
How close to the beach do you live?
Yeah.
What are you trying to say?
Smarmy motherfuckusiness.
Are you trying to compare me?
Do I care myself?
Hold on.
Do I care of myself?
Do I carry myself like Cobur Kai?
Do I go, they're like, oh, well, like, well, that's right?
You do wear sweatbands, though.
No, man, they don't headband.
Exactly what I'm saying, man.
Cobra Kai is trying to give headbands.
They set headbands back like two decades.
By the way, I haven't been out of Cobra Cuy headband because I got the costume.
I know you do.
I love some of the headband.
I could have bet that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I'm bringing them motherfuckers back.
They're due for a comeback
Which by the way
Also Daniel
He also had a headband
And it looked dope on him
I can't wear one of those
Because everyone don't think
They can kick my ass immediately
And they're like
Oh it's a black kid
He was trash
All right
So we did the Kirstiali
What Has an Age Well
The opposite of that
Is the Gen Aniston Award
Which is
What Has Age of the Best
So what would you say
It's age of best from this movie
Mr. Miyagi is still alive
Oh shit
He is 94 years old
No.
He looked in 94 in that movie.
But hold on.
Ralph Maggio also looks like he's still like 50 years.
He still looks like the karate kid.
It's very much.
And then my cousin Vinny and I think he went to jail for him?
Oh, that's right.
That was him in that movie.
He looked in jail?
Didn't he?
No.
No, no.
The kids from the Bronx.
No, I think they just went to jail in the movie.
Colosero.
No, he just didn't get in the acting roles ever again.
I think that's what it was.
Yeah.
Nobody wanted like a grown-up Ralph Macho.
They just wanted like young, like, you know, like,
cool-looking teenagers. Because he looked
the same. Yeah, yeah. When he's 22, 23,
he still looked like a fucking karate kid. You know what's
funny is I didn't even connect the dots that he's the same
guy in my cousin Vinny, but yeah, he's great
in both these movies. I think
that, yeah, Mr. Miyagi, if he's still alive, that's got to be
the call for the Jan-Annexin Award.
And he probably looks the same, I'm sure. I'm pretty
sure Ralph Maggio does, like,
accounting or, like, is a secretary
or something. I don't think he's an actor.
Like, I legitimately don't think he's an actor.
But also, I have to, once again,
go ahead and bring up golf and stuff shit age is exactly the same it looks exactly
you know it you all those little boats they still work and everything I did it like last
last over all right so now we're gonna come to final C notes I wrote down notes as I
was watching the movie I just want to do a quick rapid fire just drummed through them
number one happy Gilmore's grandma she was old back then this movie was made
1984 at the beginning of the movie they walk by this old woman they're like oh no
She's crazy.
I looked at her,
that's Happy Gilmore's grandma.
She's old in that movie.
No way, yeah, yeah.
She's already old there.
She's already an old lady.
Happy Gilmore was 12 years later,
and she's like the same way that golden.
Cruel Summer, jam.
I thought it was just an A's-a-Bay song.
Who does Curl Summer?
I don't know.
We're going to have that playing in the background right now.
Blondie.
Blondie does it?
Yeah, that's a jam.
Actually, I just looked it up.
It was Banana Rama.
Classic 80s band name right there.
As much as Dan.
Daniel's shower costume is the greatest costume of all time.
The asshole at the party with a chicken costume that's just cracking eggs on people's head.
No way that guy gets like into a party more than five minutes without people just...
He was getting actual eggs on everybody's head.
And everybody's just laughing.
Everybody's just...
Everybody's just agreeably laughing like, no, it's funny.
He's cracking eggs and it's like, oh, I got egg too.
Like, no.
He does that to even one, maybe two people.
I'm like, get the fuck out of my house, dude.
I didn't even care as my house.
Like, everybody needs to pick that dude up and throw him out the building.
For real, if someone's cracking eggs in my house, I suggest both of you to quickly bounce that person out of the home.
Yeah, it's going to be trouble quick.
You know, like, Jesus.
I think I already addressed it, but I think it's worth bringing up again.
Why are the cobra kai everywhere?
Everywhere they go, everywhere they look, the kobra kai are just, like, I don't know.
It's a small town, but apparently they're everywhere we look.
But Doyle rules.
Has anyone else ever caught a fly with chop?
Do you think anybody has ever done it?
Not a fucking chance.
No.
I'm sure that someone manipulated it and probably got it, so yeah.
Flies, like, if they were, I don't think it would be better.
Flies far down when it was.
If it was sitting, like, on a wall, I think that's doable.
If it was just buzzing around, that's next thing.
Or it could be dead, hang on the wall, probably someone snatched it and think they're all bad ass.
I feel like the scene where, now that I'm thinking about it, where Daniel comes up and just snags it real quick, it's un-nays.
Necessary because it turns Miyagi into a bit of an asshole like he can't even be proud of him and if Miyagi had snagged it right there
It would have just kind of shown him to be this badass martial arts all the more like I don't know why why didn't they just do that
You begin a lock that means I could accomplish anything. I'm mr. Miyagi
I
No sweat
But first you accomplish in defense
He should have been the one that just snagged it real quick maybe it was a realization like oh
This kid's actually got some game. It feels like something that probably didn't
I was the trick to point where he was like started to teach him at that point.
Yeah, maybe that was what made him.
He's like, okay, this kid could probably fuck up all these other, like,
Cobra Cuy Pusses.
But I felt like it was more off him.
He's like, I fucked him up, so I should, this kid.
Well, no, he helps him out after that.
Like, that's like what, but, like, I thought that was more based off him just listening to how he's getting bullied and being like, oh, I could help this boy.
I don't know.
We have to talk about the fighting scene, the points.
Oh, okay, yeah, yeah, that's what we got to get to.
Okay, we'll start with the points.
So I did karate actually when I was growing up.
You did Taekfondo.
Which is why my memories of this movie are very fun.
Because I remember watching it as a kid, I was big in a karate and I went to tournaments where I was doing these kind of sparring fights for points.
So it really resonated me when I was a kid.
But I wish I understood how a karate style points tournament worked better because I'm almost certain Johnny is fucking him up in the last one.
In the last sequence, he knocks Daniels and down.
like four times.
Yeah.
Like with like double shots,
he's like catching blocking stuff and then like sweeping
the leg and like hitting him in the face.
He's fucking him up.
He punched him in the face when he was on the ground and shit.
Also he catches the game winning shot
is a crane kick and he hits him in the face with it
which feels illegal.
Is kicking you in the face?
No, you're not allowed to kick someone directly.
You can't kick him in the face, right?
No.
And not only is he win with it,
but the movie gets thrown.
thrown into fast forward close-out mode as soon as he does.
Yo.
30 seconds.
The man's face gets kicked in his face.
The trophy gets headed to him by Johnny.
Johnny runs up, gives it to him.
All of a sudden, all their hatred, the entire movie is just like,
He also gets lifted in the air.
He couldn't even get off the ground that quickly enough to grab the trophy.
Does a pose.
Looks off into the distance.
And then it's a Mr. Miyagi freeze out and credits.
Like literally, like the last 30s.
The last, like, it feels like one, a movie that was like, suddenly they realized as they were putting it together.
Oh, shit, we can't go over two hours or whatever it is.
And we only have 30 seconds left.
Instead of, like, re-editing, cutting out one of the training scenes or anything, they were like, all right.
Let's cut that last scene off.
Let's just cram the last 30 seconds and make it all happen right there.
Well, I bet.
I bet it was like there was another scene.
And they were going on.
That scene was going to transition into them, like, you know, walk into the sunset pretty much.
but they were just like, it's over time.
I don't want to fuck with this anymore.
Let's just saw this last scene on.
We'll just cut the credits right after the kick.
I would like to time it.
I bet it's less than 30 seconds.
I bet from that kick to the credit.
So the first name on the credit, it's 18, 19 seconds.
I legit didn't even realize that the person who handed him the trophy was Johnny
and Justin had to be like, no, that was Johnny for sure.
Why would Johnny after a whole movie, a whole year of being like,
this kid is my enemy and now
he beat me at my game which by the way
Johnny is clearly better than him
and Danielson goes into the tournament
not having a rank or a belt
and he didn't even know the rules
he goes what are the rules what am I
yeah he doesn't know how this works he went into
endangered people yeah and Johnny this is
seriously his game Johnny was not an actor
and they were like let's teach you karate
like I could just see the way he moved like
this guy was Bruce Lee level good
and he was in he's probably in like
Burbank or something, just studying his ass off
and all of a sudden there's a movie karate
kid. He's like, oh, I can act too. I can be
an asshole and they're like, yeah, you do have that
80s asshole look that we're looking for and he was like
the perfect role. And then you watch
him and Daniel in the same
ring and Daniel's hobbling
around and I'm just like
there's no way Johnny even
comes close to losing this. And he doesn't
as we just talked about like he scores
more points than him. He fucked his ass up.
He fucks him up and then
after all that, somehow he gets
gipped out, he gets kicked in a face.
And there's not even, there's not even a point where he wants to, like, argue it.
His first reaction is to jump right to the trophy and head it to him and suddenly bury everything
by being like, you're the true champion.
And then it's just a Mr. Miyagi, I sew, and we're out.
And think about this.
It was his senior year.
He had been busting his ass his whole life.
He was the reigning champion.
He had won the year before.
And then he gets beat by this.
nobody loser that lies about what belt he is to get into the tournament? He goes, what,
what belt do I need? What do you mean? He's like a brown or a black. Which, honestly,
there's got to be a good chance that like legit karate masters hate this movie for that
entire last sequence. Because first of all, though scoring is off, as even we can tell,
they let the guy who's clearly worse win. And then they kind of expose this thing where like,
apparently you don't even need to earn a black belt to wear a black belt at a karate tournament.
You don't have to be qualified to enter a state championship.
You just go like, oh yeah, yeah, go, no.
Can I get a black belt real quick?
Oh, yeah, cool, thanks.
And then you walk around the black belt all day, like, you just earn that shit.
And these guys take years to fucking pull that shit off.
Yeah, and there was a point where they literally, one of the officials was like, yeah, well, who do you fight?
What are your credentials?
And then they look at Mr. Miyagi and he goes, he's with me.
And this dude's like, oh, he's an old Asian guy.
He was no one he's doing.
Oh, shit.
He's got a head dead and he's an old Asian guy.
Just immediately.
And need I point out the Fumanchu gouti going on?
Like, yeah, this guy, you got to trust this guy.
But he has some oil.
He carries that much cloud.
Yeah.
Overall, if you were raided now on a system,
we haven't created a system of how you would score these.
I don't know.
Yeah, not a chance kids today would watch it.
They'd be like, this kid's whack.
Well, they have remade it.
I don't actually have...
I haven't seen it.
I don't want to watch it.
It's like Jalen Smith or something.
No.
I feel like he looks like he's about to burst in a tears old time.
No, it did not stand the fist of time.
No.
No, it specifically works for the time that it was in that kind of like gave ninjas and karate
the forefront that led to like Ninja Turtles and like a lot of things that we ended up loving as in like my childhood happened.
I did talk taekwondo because of it.
Yeah, I was doing karate.
I loved Ninja Turtles.
Like I was super into that stuff and I think it was just a right place, right time.
And they're like they made us serious.
about it, right?
How many were that?
How many movies were there?
Was there only...
Yeah, I was gonna say it.
Jesus.
Mine is, it was definitely a time, at the time thing that worked,
and it still stands at the time enough
for us to talk about three things with it.
So, all in all, I appreciate it.
Gaines and Zay bully the whole time.
We already proved you wrong.
Johnny, Johnny's definitely the ass.
Actually, no, the true asshole
obviously comes from Creece, the dude up top.
He's the guy that
He's the guy that...
Swip the Lavee.
Swip the leg.
Yeah.
And I don't think that,
first of all,
the girl moved away,
that sucks.
What?
The main girl,
she moves away
in the second movie.
Okay.
So the whole...
But the whole thing...
Stop talking about the second movie.
We're done.
See?
Okay,
are you going?
We're going to get it.
There's a good point to be made.
Yeah,
we're going to second movie already.
They fought over that girl
for absolutely no reason.
So the whole movie
was absolutely pointless.
That's all...
All right.
Well, then that's a fair point that.
That's all we need to figure out in the second movie, yeah.
If you go on to number two, this whole first movie.
She didn't get any of our awards, by the way.
All right, so I think that concludes.
I think we've talked about three things about and then some about karate kid.
And I hope that if you haven't seen it in a long time as I haven't since I was a kid,
this will make you actually go into it with some perspective
and see some things that you want to watch about it.
You agree with me.
Yeah.
You tell us.
You write in.
I don't actually have.
