Starting point is 00:00:02 It's the DAC, DACDICs DJ! Hey! What's up, everybody? It is the dissect DJ. What's going on to DJs in the building? We had to throw it back. You heard the last episode.
Starting point is 00:00:38 If you didn't, why not? You should have listened to that. Why are you not listening to all their episodes? It's fine. I'm not going to brow be at the start. Either way, we listen to Aisha, which is a classic Early 90s jam from a young kid group that was obviously influenced by New Edition, and New Edition is the OG young-ass kid group that just spit out hits.
Starting point is 00:01:00 Bobby Brown, Michael Bivens, Ricky, whatever his last name was. I don't know. I'll look it up. Point is, this is their original smash hit. Cool it now. Ooh, watch out. We're going to lose skin drop. All right.
Starting point is 00:01:15 I'm excited about this one, because again, this is like, as most songs, tend to be. One of those songs I've always sang, enjoyed, and had no idea what the fuck they're talking about. Do you guys, do you be honest, I feel like we start almost every episode with Justin talking about how he doesn't know what the fuck they're talking about.
Starting point is 00:01:32 You know it? That's what it is, what it is. I kind of do know a little bit with the talk about, I think that as what brought this up from the last song, is like these are some kids kind of talking about one of their homies getting into a relationship or he's
Starting point is 00:01:47 having interest. So, we're going to learn a little bit more about a young adolescent puppy love. Sound fun? Huh? All right. Sounds weird. Sounds like something we all can get into. But when it's a jam like this, let it ride.
Starting point is 00:02:03 What they got to say. Man, every time as I'm an older adult disgusted that I am hearing a adolescent talking about a relationship that he should not be thinking about, go play some damn Nintendo. I mean, to be fair, in Aisha, in their first date, they played Nintendo, and you took issue with that too. So, like, what do you want from these kids? What are they supposed to do with their emotions and their hormones and their, like, attractions? Wait to your voice breaks and fucking hair grows on your balls. It's easy.
Starting point is 00:03:26 They say that as an adult. No. Yeah, I remember what I was like to be young. Fact is, like, I think as in the last one, this is innocent puppy love. I think it's innocent. It's not like they're talking about doing like crazy shit. Here's what I got from that whole first verse though. As much as like this is being viewed from the perspective of a young child who's kind of like having his first crush and he's just like, oh man, I'm so into this girl.
Starting point is 00:03:53 And then this crew's like, hey, cool it now. All right? You're going to lose control. This is the kind of stuff that doesn't really change. This is like if you had just put an adult on this. track talking about it most these things he's referencing and like his friend's response saying he's going to lose control you better watch out like it's kind of more of the same of what starts happening throughout life i think that this is uh something that you might start going through these kind of
Starting point is 00:04:20 thoughts and feelings and your friends having these reactions and probably actually looking out for what's best for you it might start at a young age and yeah these kids might not be ready for exactly what they're talking about but the words and the feelings and the thought they that That seems that kind of sticks with the person. Simply put, this song is very simply about a kid that fell in love and his friends are telling him to stop it. That's pretty much what we got. They're telling him to cool it now. They're not necessarily telling him to stop it.
Starting point is 00:04:45 They're just be like, hey, cool it, cool it, all right? Like, look, you're talking about this girl way too much. You don't got to pay for the whole dinner. You're bringing it up. At this point, they're probably like just going to lunch in the cafeteria. Well, I'm just bringing it to adult turns. He's getting off easy. This is where you got to cool down as an adult, because this can, as you said, attribute to adult status.
Starting point is 00:05:01 You know, she could pay for the meal. She can drive. She could open my door, you know? Oh, yeah, that's going to work. Wonders. Tell me how many points. That's the course. I'm sorry, my door's not open.
Starting point is 00:05:14 Did you break your arm when you're not reaching for your purse with a check cap? I opened the door for you the last three times. How come you can't get it one time? Yeah, that's going to work. Okay. One time. I don't think that's kind of cool it now that he needs to be reading from this. All right, well.
Starting point is 00:05:28 Ooh, watch out. You gotta lose. More of the same. Yeah, you know what? Here's what I like about it, though. What I like about it, as you're getting into it real quick, is that the girl actually is telling him how she feels. So this isn't just him assuming.
Starting point is 00:06:57 That is exactly what I liked about it. Okay, so we didn't do this. This was actually one of the ones that me and Juan did. On my three things you got to talk about podcast last year, we did a Breakdown the Song episode. Break down this song. On Shies, if I ever. fall in love again.
Starting point is 00:07:18 The very first time that I'm all around her and did in love such a classic the point is that was an adult singing about a girl that he just met
Starting point is 00:07:35 and how deep his emotions are based on seeing her brown eyes for the first time. This is a child who is building it off of how every day they walk home from school and she tells them about how she really feels.
Starting point is 00:07:49 And, like, they're building something here that's not based off, like, some initial puppy lover. They're actually, like, yo, we actually really vibe. We get along together. We get this conversation, right? Like, they have, like, a legit connection. And even though their kids, that's probably the biggest thing facing their issue. Is they're like, ah, fuck, we're kids, though. And, like, our friends are looking at it.
Starting point is 00:08:11 Like, yeah, you need to cool it now. Like, what are you trying to, like, fall above? You're still a kid. Dude, play basketball on the court. You know what I just figured out, Cassie? The rest of the kids, Johnny, Bonnie, whatever their names are. We'll figure that out later, right? They are actually jealous.
Starting point is 00:08:28 Yeah. Because this man has, we'll call her Michelle. We use Michelle already once in a past song. I don't remember which one, but I remember, I remember we did that on it. We'll go ahead and call her Sarah. Sure. Sarah is special. She's smart.
Starting point is 00:08:44 She's the pretty girl in school. and guess what he got her he walks her home but she tells him how he feels yeah and and not inauthentically authentically yeah and he got her by like actually talking to her with deep conversation on the walk home by like learning about her they're just hating telling the cool down
Starting point is 00:09:03 so they can swoop dude not necessarily swoop they're just like why are you got to like have like Sarah and I can't have my own little Billy Jean they're disappointed in themselves they haven't achieved whatever his name is. Yeah. Who is singing that?
Starting point is 00:09:19 Which one is singing that? I think that's Ralph, apparently. I didn't even know there was a Ralph in, yeah. They don't say his name because they say, Bonnie, Tommy, he's the other four. Bobby, Reggie, Mike. He's the other four, you never hear him. My name is Ralphie.
Starting point is 00:09:32 Like, he never. And his name is Ralph, too. Like, that's not the sexiest name. Yeah, Ralph. I didn't know there was a Ralph. That's my grandfather's name. But apparently, he said, and my uncle's name, yeah, Ralph.
Starting point is 00:09:40 Yeah. It's a weird name. Ralph. It's a grandpa's name. It's not necessarily a kid in new edition. name but apparently yeah he he kills this song go with your name i guess i don't know you can't mess with a mind if he feels the same she'll let you know just prepare yourself from be ready to go and i hope this message stays in your mind because you almost lost a girl who is right on time
Starting point is 00:10:18 there's one more thing that you got to know just cool it down stay in control you know who just hit that right there who's that was that was that was that was a save i actually didn't hear what he said because I actually never understand what rapper were saying when they say it. I'm just, I never had the brain to do it. I listen more to the music. This is good to know. Like, as we're coming full circle from the last song, Michael Bivens was the one who produced another bad
Starting point is 00:10:43 creation that put on Alicia in last week's episode. So, uh, this is, now you're understanding where it came from. Like, this is why that crew reminded himself of his upbringing, like he said in that song. Because, yeah, this is his crew, new edition. And he's got
Starting point is 00:10:59 something to say. He's said, When you got a girl who takes her time, you must slow the pace. You can't mess with her mind. That's reasonably deep for whatever year old he was. If she feels the same, she'll let you know. Just prepare yourself or be ready to go. Where are you going, though? I mean, she don't like you.
Starting point is 00:11:19 Get the hell out of here. Get out. It's a hard acceptance for some people to do because some people think persistence wins. But sometimes you just ain't in. You ain't going to get in. You're not feeling it. She ain't feeling it. It's best for all.
Starting point is 00:11:30 part is for just to let me go go so let's let's go continue in the wrap and i hope this message stays in your mind because you almost lost a girl who's right on time there's one more thing that you need to know just cool it down stay in control he's speaking some wisdom here he's wise beyond his ears i gotta be honest he's straight up telling him prepare yourself if she's not feeling the same way you got to be ready to go so keep this in your mind because you might lose a girl who's like right where you're at right now. Like you and her are actually kind of in the same. Like,
Starting point is 00:12:17 what do you want to be? Your guys are fighting yourselves at the right time. And there's one more thing. And always stay in control. Like that's just, that's a good, that's a good, quote, that's a good,
Starting point is 00:12:26 just thing to follow in life. Yeah. Is to stay in control. Breathe. Yeah. And, uh, you know. Cool it now. You know, watch out.
Starting point is 00:12:36 You're gonna lose. But either way, we're about that point in the song where we are ready for the breakdown and this song does not short you on the breakdown let it deliver ralph had to get him know what's up ralph had to get his comeback on all that it's like y'all get to back to fuck off you man talking shit this whole week just because i'm the one that's got the girl that you all have been like talking about this whole time because i'm starting to make waves
Starting point is 00:14:00 with her you guys got to like tell me to cool it now basically what what ralph said was fuck ronie fuck bobby fuck rickie fuck mike back to fuck up i got my girl leave me to fuck alone y'all need to cool If I love the girl, who cares who you like. Exactly. You almost can feel where both of them are coming from. Because the squad's like, man, Ralph, you're spending all this time to score. Like, this is all of their experience for the first time. This is how I'm hearing it at least.
Starting point is 00:14:25 One of their members suddenly being like, oh, now I'm all about this girl. And like, they've always been a squad. And they're like, what? Like, what? Yo, hey, cool now. You're going to spend all your time with this girl? And like, so they're kind of hating. And Ralph's looking at it like, you all just jealous that you didn't.
Starting point is 00:14:42 Find yourself a Sarah or a Becky or a Candice. I don't know. And depending on the label that the age of this kid is close, he's like, I'm just smashed way before all of you guys. Is that okay? No, that's weird. That's weird. That's weird. We don't have to bring it there.
Starting point is 00:14:58 Okay, but that actually brings me to this, though. Here's what I realized when I was listening to the, you know, every time I hear that chorus, it's like, all I keep thinking about is her in my. Which, by the way, I never knew what the hell they said there, but all they're saying is, got to see what love is all about. Yeah, which is fair. But they're almost agreeing with them at that point because they're like, yeah. Not them singing that? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:23 That's not there. That's not there. It's complete. Or maybe that's in his head. I don't know. That's a completely different. Because, like, yeah, they're basically saying like, yeah, explore this whole love thing, but don't like shut it down just because you're young.
Starting point is 00:15:33 Although it's probably them. It's probably them on concert and stuff because they had to use that. But I don't think in the stuff. in the story. But they're kind of like, yeah, they're jumping on his side. Yeah, for that point. But, uh, no, here's what I like about it. There's a thing about whenever you're feeling that whole like, oh my God, I think I'm like super into this, this girl or, or guy, you know, whoever you're, whatever you're into, you kind of resort back to when you were young and you first started feeling that and you're just kind of like feeling like this dumb, like puppy love, like,
Starting point is 00:16:01 oh my God, I'm like so on this girl. Exactly what Ralph is going through here. So there's something about hearing it in this kind of like this young innocent boys you know state of mind that kind of works as you're like you know working with your own feelings you know and his squad trying to like you know shake him out of it like there's there's a little innocence of like really starting to first get into somebody that this song really taps into and i'll say this because we just did iisha and they're both kind of like similar in like what the subject is but i definitely do think that cool it now just did it a little bit. better. You know why? Probably because
Starting point is 00:16:38 they didn't put a girl's name on it and knowing that we're supposed to be talking about a girl that's like nine. We're talking about Sarah here, but nobody does that. But yeah, but you could apply it to Janice, the 40-year-old accountant, whoever it is, that you're actually like you know, this is who you're crushing on.
Starting point is 00:16:54 We crush on people at all ages. Beth. And we go right, stop just throwing names out. It's not bringing you... Corrine? Corrine? Is that even that? Probably is I know. Veronica.
Starting point is 00:17:07 You just have to keep shitting names out right now. I don't know where you're pulling these from. But, no, the point is like, this is the age that you first start, maybe kind of feeling of these thoughts that he's gone. But, like, the things he's saying at any age, it all kind of, this all makes sense. So I think, yeah, I think Cool It Now just definitely did it right with how they're describing this stuff. So two snaps and a double thumbs up already.
Starting point is 00:17:30 Right there. That's a pre-ranking. But I think you need to cool it now. Ooh, watch out I watched out I think we all cool it down Cool it down definitely makes you cool it down Yet at the same time
Starting point is 00:19:12 He makes you heat it up It's a good dance It really does There's something about Cool it now That just like it hits all the points And all the right ways Like we're listening to some young kids
Starting point is 00:19:23 Talk about like Kind of maybe falling in love But for some reason Like the way it's worded The way it's done The whole operation of it It just like It just hits your words
Starting point is 00:19:32 right and it makes you want to jam makes you want to dance it makes you want to fall in love and it makes you want to cool it now it does all of the same i agree with everything you just said i just have to add the cons to the song of the kids singing it always throw with me forever it's a little weird and then the subject that is being spoken about by a child awkward see i think you want to make that an issue in this one on paper but that just the fact that that that it's being positioned in this song in a way where it's like, a boy's kind of like talking about his legit feelings about a girl based on his, like, conversations with her,
Starting point is 00:20:11 and the rest of the squad are seeing it, and they're just giving them fair warning. They're just like, hey, you're gonna fall in love. Like, they're trying to temper his expectations. And like I said, like, this is the kind of conversation that homie's gonna have with each other really all throughout life. This is, like, kind of where it begins. The way it all plays out, like, it just kind of plays out.
Starting point is 00:20:32 Give me your slaps and snaps then. So I gave it four? Four slaps. Because I don't remember even what I gave Aisha, but I feel like I got to put this over Ayesha. Okay, I had a snap. Four slaps and a snap. I feel like four slaps and a snap puts it over Ayesha. Like, I loved Ayesha.
Starting point is 00:20:55 That was a great jam that makes me want to dance. This one is just like, it's kind of the same, but it's just the next level. So, yeah, I got four slaps and that. What did you got? That was a very soft three. Yeah. Soft three. It's a soft three.
Starting point is 00:21:12 It's a soft song. It's about a soft subject with a bunch of softies that are hating on the, that are hating on their homie for getting the girl and they're being softies and he's being soft the way he's telling him to cool it now. It's just a very soft song. So he gets a soft three. If this song plays in a club or in a bar where you're located, are you not going to stand up and start moving out? So you and I are very different characters. So I'll dance to pretty much. Anything you put on as long as it's got a beat behind it. That's not true. For me it is.
Starting point is 00:21:47 It's got to be a little bit of a gym. You do dance as some way, I guess. Yeah, yeah, exactly. So you and I are a little different with that subject. But with that said, no, dude, a soft three. Soft three. It's a cool song. It's classic.
Starting point is 00:21:59 It's kids talking about subject that they shouldn't be into. Go play outside and play tech. You know, go play. Maybe that's how it started. In the sewer. Go see what's in the sewer. I did that. It was fun.
Starting point is 00:22:12 Like, you're like, oh, what's a lot. the sewer. You go on the sewer? Okay, what was in the sewer? It's just trash and like dead rats and shit. It's nothing. You think it's going to be cool and then you actually go down there. Dunkin and the sewer rats? Yeah, you just, yeah. It's awkward. It's awkward. Once you get down here, you're like, I should not be down here. You immediately know this is not a place where humans. I want to talk to you, but I actually do remember one time, me and my friends like jumping in the sewer while. We all did. We all did. Go play in the sewer. Okay. Go meet a ninja turtle. It's a time.
Starting point is 00:22:39 You're the one that was hating on your homie because he was like getting the girls like interest and you were like what man fuck that guy man like let's play in the sewer and he's like I have a girl interested in me now so I'm gonna probably walk home with her and you were like man fuck that guy so I don't know that's it
Starting point is 00:22:55 that actually completely true story there was treasures in that sewer that had yet to be discovered so I was a broken heineken glass not a gem but and used condom which are fun to play with it when you're a kid
Starting point is 00:23:12 to be honest. Oh my God. All right. Yeah, with that, I think. I think you've disgraced cool it down as much as it could possibly disgrace it, but I'm not going to
Starting point is 00:23:22 give you a chance to prove it anymore. So, next!
