Pump up the jam, pump it up while your feet are stumping
And the jam is pumping look ahead the crowd of jumping
Pump it up a little more get the party going on the dance floor
See because that's where the party's at and you find out if you do that
A place to stay get
Oh Diceg DJ is about to pump up the jam
We've already pumped up the jam.
Woo!
The jam has been pumped.
It's too late.
We kept it going.
We had to keep it going.
That's one of those songs.
Once she starts pumping up the jam, you got to pump it up while your feet are stomping.
Get the party going on the dance floor.
Also, the next line, by the way, I have to read this because this feels like one of those songs that's funny to read the lyrics of.
But the reason I'm glad I did is because the next line says, see, question mark.
Because that's where the party's at, and you'll find out if you do.
do that, which doesn't
make sense if you read it.
And the next line,
A place to stay.
Wait, what does it say exactly?
I want a place to stay.
I want a place to stay.
Get your booty on the floor tonight.
Wow, I never knew that's what it said.
The only way I've ever heard that is
I want a place to stay.
I want a place to stay.
So I'm thinking of a girl that's like maybe at a club
or something and she's like, I need a place to say y'all.
Yo, I got a fucked up situation at home, and I need a place to stay.
And your booty on the floor tonight.
Make my day.
So this girl's looking for somebody like, hey, I got a fucked up situation at home.
Don't ask, but you can totally take me home right now.
Make my date.
Make my date.
So wait, wait, wait.
What does that comment mean?
She's a sleaze.
That's easy.
Really?
That's what I...
She's looking for somebody to take her home.
Let's go from the beginning.
Pump up the gym.
Pump it up.
While your feet are stomping and the groove is stomping.
Go ahead and get your potty stomping.
Pump it up.
Which part is confusing you?
I don't know how you were getting the fact that this young lady is.
Yes, it wasn't that part.
It was the second part.
It was the part where she says, I don't have a place to say,
Gedge your boot in the floor, make my day.
She says, I want a place to stay.
Yes.
She's looking for somebody to take her home.
Yes.
She wanted a place on the dance floor.
That's not how I'm reading it.
I have a feeling like she's walking in the place, right?
She's walking into whatever club she's at.
Whether it be the night at the Roxbury or, you know, that's the only one I could think of that was some time of 90s club.
And she's like, I want a place to.
I didn't ever do that's what she said, but I just head to booty all this.
So I was thought she was just getting her booty on the dance floor tonight.
So now that we're adding what you're saying, I want a place to stay.
I have feeling she's walking in.
She's like, I want a place to stay.
Either they're going to get table service or she's going to go stand over there by the bar.
And somebody else is yelling, get you boot out of the blow tonight.
And she goes, we'll make my day.
And she's like, I'm dancing.
So I'm looking at her like dancing.
You're taking it as she wants a place to stay.
Tonight, yeah.
I'm getting on the floor.
Who's taking me home?
Make my day.
And you get to take me home.
Never saw that song as this whatsoever.
Isn't just the beauty of lyricism and just like how we can hear different lyrics?
It's beautiful.
I dissected this song completely different.
All right, let's keep pulling up at jam, though.
I've always loved that, Make My Day.
Make my, make, make.
She's in the Make My Day.
And then she goes into a higher pay.
Make my day.
Yeah.
Make, I don't know.
That's just, I always look forward to that, make my day.
Out of all those make my days.
It becomes like an exercise of how many ways you could say make my day.
Make my day.
Make my, make my day.
Make my day.
Make my day.
That's when it gets fun.
I do want to point out from the line before that.
So this song has a very fun vibe to it,
but let us not overlook the fact that the girl that's singing
kind of comes into with sort of a very aggressive,
almost like bully-like attitude to the dance floor
because she says,
get that party going on the dance floor.
See, because that's where the party's at,
and you'll find out if you do that.
Like, she's very tough on, like,
if this is somebody that's coming at you,
on the dance floor and you're kind of like right now you're straddling the line about if you're
into the dance for or not and she's coming at because i know i think we've all been in that situation
at a certain point when there's somebody that like for whatever reason they have a lot invested
in this dance for maybe they spent a lot of money on the bottle service next to it or something you know
i'm sure we've all been around that and you have somebody that's coming at you that's like
why aren't you dancing bro dance let's go and like you're like because they're
I smoked entirely too much before I got here.
Because they're playing umbop right now
and I don't really want to dance to that.
And they're like, no, let's go.
Umbop and do that.
And they're just like dancing.
That sounds like me, asshole to you.
Like, I tend to try to do that to you.
I'm like, you like, you like, you like, you like, come on.
That's a good one.
That's just because I threw oombop.
But like, like, okay, let's like say it's, uh,
they're playing Nirvana.
And like somebody's out of there like, let's go.
Dance to this right now.
And you're just like.
I don't dance to that.
No, okay, well, there's not a whole lot of examples I could give that would knock you out of that equation.
The wiggles, maybe.
The point is, there's certain times where people are just yelling at you like,
yo, why aren't you dancing?
And there's a myriad of reasons that sometimes somebody's just, you know, I'm not into dancing right now.
Is it cool?
I just kind of want to chill on the side.
Is that all right?
And Technotronic is not letting you have it.
You know what something becoming completely ridiculous to me is that,
is that her first entire line
and her second line
were the exact same lines
and you know how much that pisses me off.
And I have a feeling this song
does this song do that the rest of the time?
It's gonna do a lot of that.
Is it?
I don't know, let's listen do it.
I don't know. Let's listen to it.
I'm a little worried that it might do that
the rest of the song,
cast on.
We never realized that this song
just repeats itself
from that first line.
I'm not gonna say I didn't realize it,
but now that we're dissecting it,
let's dissecting it.
It does, I think.
Fucking credit,
they did change the pump
to many different pumpets.
I gotta tell you
As I'm looking at the lyrics
I started scrolling down on
And it's the same thing
It was the same shit the whole time
It's a lot of pump up the jam
Pump it pump it jam
Pump it jump
Yeah it's a lot of this song
How did we ever try to dissect this song
That is the exact same words
How much can we dissect this song?
I will tell you right now
I'm ready
I can tell you too
Can I tell you something?
Go ahead
You got yours and I got mine go
Well, obviously
Wait, wait
Let's play out for a second
All right, speak
Well, obviously, I guess at this point
I got to make it clear
That the reason that I love this song
Is because I associate it with Space Jam
So this is like the theme song of Space Jam
And that is one of my favorite movies from the 90s
As well as the whole time
I thought the theme song of Space Jam was
Yeah, everybody get up
It's time to jam now
We got a real thing going now
Going to the space jam
Get your chance
Do your dance at the space jam
All right
You just pointed out
One of the reasons that space jam
Is such an amazing movie
Is there's literally like
Three or four songs that you could describe
As the theme of space jam
And that was one of them
Obviously it has the namesake
But this song
You cannot disassociate
That one's good
Love that one.
And then there's, I believe I can play it with Arkelly.
Yeah, there's a few songs you can go with it.
But this song is 100% associated with it.
So at this point, I have to point out the part of the movie that it represents because...
I'm about it every night and day, day, day, day.
Right.
So you got me in that, Arkelly.
Yeah.
Stop derailing me on my point right now.
The part of the movie, when Technotronics Pumpin' Jam comes, is right as the games getting started.
And they're showing traffic.
I for some reason remember, like the giant red, like, bowl-looking character.
He's in a car that doesn't fit him.
And, of course, they add some Looney Tunes humor to it.
Is that right before Bill Murley comes into the game?
Or is that?
No, it's later.
That's like when they need another player.
God damn, watch the Baycham again.
We'll do it.
We'll do enough of a set of space show.
There's a certain element that the song brings as the game starting
that has this feel of like, you know, this game is big.
So that's right when this song hits
It's at the peak of space gym
So like yeah I love this
Three things come to my mind
When I think of pump up the gym
Okay
And they all deal with the word pump
One were pumps
Of the 90s
I had a pair
And you would pump them up
You're talking about the Reebok pumps
When you like
Because when I hear pumps
I think of like heels nowadays
Oh no
I'm talking about the Reebok pumps
They're pumped up
And you hear it go
Should those actually do anything
You were shooting?
I think it was just
I think they tightened them up a little bit
which was still like a good feature to have.
They should probably bring that back.
I would like them.
Second thing is pumps for like balls, right?
This is the same thing, I think.
I'm always amazed that like they're so fragile.
Every time I have a pump, it breaks in the ball,
and now I have a fucking broken needle in the ball.
That's true.
I hate that shit.
That's why I don't have a pump right now.
I've definitely had multiple in the past.
Make better pumps.
Make better pumps.
And the final thing, the final thing,
is Pump It Up by Joe Budden.
Fantastic song.
It's a great song.
And I feel like we might need to...
Should we...
Should we turn this?
I think we might need to dissect that song
because it's pretty good.
Pump week, ladies and gentlemen.
Is it pump week?
I think it's pump week.
I think...
You didn't realize it?
We didn't realize it.
We just decided right now.
We just decided.
This is how dissecting goes.
Pump week.
All right.
In the meantime, though, let's pump up the jam.
That's a great fallout of the beat, too.
Pump up the jam.
jam we pumped it up we pumped it down wait wait let's not we pumped it all around what
we bring it back so what we're saying all right i got i got something controversial to say actually
are you ready for this hit me okay just as they brought that last pump up the jam in there
that girl's voice is very 90s it like works for what this was and when it was but like i just feel like
Nowadays, if this song was made, we would have got just like a better lyricist on it.
Because that girl, you think about it, she kind of sucks at what she's doing.
She's not a singer.
She's not rapping.
She's just kind of like aggressively, like I said earlier, she's aggressively being that
girl that's like, hey, get your buddy on the dance floor.
What the fuck?
Like, I'm imagining her be this super aggressive, just kind of like, why are you dancing kind of chick?
I feel like if you had a better voice on that, that's,
song might have even jumped up a few slaps for me.
You know, you're, uh, you're being, you're being very me right now.
And I don't like it.
You need to.
I don't like it.
You got to be able to accept people being in here.
She's very, good.
She fits the song perfectly.
She fits the song perfectly because that's what we know it is.
I don't understand.
What do you want this girl to be like, pah?
Like, like, I don't, you know, obviously I can't sing.
But how, how more do you want her to break down the vocals of the song and really try to be a lyricist?
No, of course you gotta go
The Jehu
Of course you got a way overdo it
Like what?
Like what are you expecting?
No, I'm sorry
You're being to me right now
She was great
It was perfect for the job
TechTronic
I don't know her name
By the way, what is her name?
Technotronic
I don't know what her name is
I don't know
Technotronic
Her name is Jan Techno
And her last name is Tronic
Is that really?
No, you're just making
Jan Tech
I don't think anybody's ever been named Jan.
Jan Tech-No.
Anyways.
All right, well, love that song.
How much of it do you love it because of Space Jam, though?
Zero.
I love that song because it's just an awesome song.
Can we comment on the video for a second?
Go ahead.
I guarantee you've never seen the video again.
Never seen the video.
You know me in videos, sir.
All right, we're going to watch a video together for two seconds.
Here, come over here.
If I came over there, we would know.
longer be social distancing.
Alright, all right, all right.
We're gonna bring up the video.
I just wanna show it to you for a second.
You got the idea?
Alright.
Okay, so I feel like the video is very important to take in when you're breaking down
Technotronic because I feel like it really embodies the mid-90s.
And by mid-90s, I don't mean like a vague number.
I like specifically mean late 1995 to most of 1996, which might not make sense to people.
who were not born in the 90s.
But this video literally says all of it
with a heavy dose of chaos.
Your 1990s dance jam,
tossed in with a little bit of space jam,
a heavy dose of ecstasy,
and just a little snippet of Viagra,
just because that was like when that first started
jumping into the tone.
Yeah, 1999.
Yeah, a little 97.
Yeah, you got to bring 97 to it, you're right.
There was a lot of cheesy green screening
that was going on leading up to this.
But they are able to do the green screen in such a way that's so much chaos.
There's something about the music video from Pop Up a Jam that I feel like just encapsulates roughly about 1996 and 1997 while saying no words.
You're like, you watch this music video.
You're like, I get it.
I get what happened in 1996 and 97.
I have another pump.
Penis pumps.
So how many slaps you give in this one?
I got four with a vibrating.
I don't know what that four thing was.
I can't really explain it.
It was like a little, it was like an audience clap.
It was a little like, yeah, pittipat or golf clap, something like that.
Yeah.
But it's good.
It's classic.
It pumps me up.
It's classic 90s jam.
Techronic always brings it.
I love all their jams.
And, yeah, it just, it's one of my favorites.
Although through dissecting, did not realize that the lyrics of this song are quite simple.
It is pretty simple, which is why my rating is...
Oh.
Three and a breakdown?
A dance?
Yeah.
Three and a breakdown.
Let me tell you why.
Three and a dance breakdown.
Yeah, because the beat alone is force-lap worthy.
Real quick, before you continue, ladies and gentlemen, he did three claps and then started
breaking it down dancing.
You can't really see that via Mike, but he was getting it.
I felt like the general vibe would be heard, and I think it was.
We kind of knocked it down from forward.
Like I said, this girl's voice, she's just super aggressive.
She's kind of in your face about it.
And now it works because that's kind of the edge of that mid-90s tone that I'm trying to discuss.
But I think it could be a better tone.
In fact, the part in the movie, it goes from the parking lot of the freeway on the way to the game,
to the announcements of the players in the game, they took the singer out.
It's just the background beat
And that is because that's what pumps up the jam
That is what gets everybody pumped
I actually think the song works better instrumental
Without the girl yelling pump up the jam in my face
Now I do love it
Because I'm familiar with it just takes me back to my childhood and everything
But really
It's the best part not that little like ramp up
When it's like
That's when it really kind of like gets you
Now I'm pumped up
But it does pump you up
That's where it gets the slaps from, and that's where it gets me moving from.
Gets me moving on the dance floor.
Wait, man, back to those penis pumps.
Never mind.
The fact that you brought up penis pumps twice with absolutely no follow-up.
It's like you want me.
I can't do it next right there.
We still can't.
Next!
