Starting point is 00:00:36 When it is the DJs. Once again, I'd like to spin it, mix it, throw it back, and dissect it. You know how we do. It's the time. I think it's time to find our seats because we need to find the Usher. Which actually, you want to be honest, like when I first heard of Usher, the first thing I ever thought about was like the guy who takes your tickets. I remember thinking immediately when I first just saw top of the charts, Usher, this. And I was just like, I don't know who Usher is, but he sounds like.
Starting point is 00:01:06 boring because it makes me think of a guy in like a red coat that's just going to make you find your seats and then i finally heard and i was like this dude spits out jams why is he called usher and then i found out this actual name usher raymond so it all makes sense comes full circle dude makes jams like this bad bitch right here you make me want to do you make me want you make me want you make me want you i think it's just you make me want real quick i had no idea about the story you just told me and this is his real name his name's usher raymond would not have it would not have a weird name to I know the Raymond part because of R-A. Y-A.
Starting point is 00:01:40 Oh, and D. Baby, tell me what you want to do. I thought you made up the first name. But yeah, okay, cool. It would be a weird name
Starting point is 00:01:45 if it was his R&B name, like now y'all can call me Usher. But because this is a real name like you, you can't even, it makes sense. All right. Yeah, go with your name, bro. I'll go with that.
Starting point is 00:01:53 So Jermaine Jopree comes in out of the gate with it. This is what you do. This is what you do, what you do with a fantastic like. Good beat. Great beat to this song. Usher always has some great. Especially his classic stuff always has that early late 90s,
Starting point is 00:02:07 a great mid-90s intro R&B song right here. Just like comes in with just like a little smooth guitar, JD on the track, just like, this is what you do. And he's telling you right away, like, hey, this is what you, you're going to listen to this. Hey, come here, come here. You.
Starting point is 00:02:21 This is what you. You want to do? I'm going to tell you, come here. And then he jumps right into it. You make me want to leave them what I'm with. Start a new relationship with you. This is what you do. This is what you do.
Starting point is 00:02:34 Think about the ring and all the things that come along with. You make me. You make me. And he basically repeats that twice. So what we have is a man that is in a relationship and has another person he's interested in. And that specific person makes him want to start a new relationship with that person. Yeah. You know what?
Starting point is 00:02:58 He's wording it like a complicated novel, but it's pretty basic. It's like, hey, I've been in a relationship, but like you're hot. and now I kind of actually want to be in relationship with you. Like you're nudging your way in and you know what? You make me, you kind of want to get with you. That's what this is. That's what dancing around it. But then the next line throws me,
Starting point is 00:03:16 think about a ring and all the things that come along with. Are they wrestling? I think he's talking about the ring you put on your finger, you know. Oh, shit. I was like, man, this is. Tell me all this time you've thought. This gets into, I was, you know, I just took it as like, oh, they're, think about the ring.
Starting point is 00:03:31 They're like about to wrestle in life. I kind of took it as an install. Like, you know, next level, like thinking outside the box, but he's just talking about the basic ass wedding ring. Okay. Yeah, I think that's what most girls are thinking. Had that mistaken. Tell me this whole video is completely,
Starting point is 00:03:44 like mental video that I have of this entire song is going to change for me for them here on out. Think about the ring that you couldn't to by my side. You make me want to wrestle a big dude in suspendix get creased up and we're going to wrestle to the side. Yeah, yeah, exactly. But, I mean, I knew he didn't talk about wrestling the wrestle song, but I was like, oh, you're resetting the sex.
Starting point is 00:04:03 It's like a metaphorical. He's saying the tone. He's setting the ring and they're going to wrestle in life. And then, like, I'm going against my girl to get with... I don't know, man. There's a tag team match of emotions. It's got to take place in a steel cage. You get it.
Starting point is 00:04:16 Do you smell? With the arch! Exactly. So that's what I took her as. He's just basically explained to a chick that he wants to get with her and then he wants to put a ring on it, which... He makes him want to do that. He's not really...
Starting point is 00:04:33 He's saying he's going to do that, but he's like, do you're making me want to do that. Got you. Keep doing that a little bit. Maybe keep doing that a little bit. Maybe let's go to the ring, wrestle a couple of rounds, you know, or it takes us. Well, let's start talking about it. Before we're going on, because I want him to sing up. I want us to go ahead and talk about the next couple lines, and then he'll sing it for us.
Starting point is 00:04:50 Before anything began between them, they were like best friends. The ones they used to run and talk to when he and his girl was having problems. Now let's stop there. Isn't this always? What friend? Yeah, It's that friend that you're like, No, she's just a friend, no.
Starting point is 00:05:08 Or even in the opposite side with the guy and the girl, like, oh, that's your boyfriend. And they're like, he's just been there for me and all the time. Yeah, yeah. But then, like, who is the one? As soon as, like, shit blows up, who's the first one that gets, like the text of the call? Like, he's just like, I don't understand him sometimes. Or, you know what? She's just like, a little crazy.
Starting point is 00:05:26 Especially if they go with the, we used to hook up, but that's past us now. Go fuck yourself. Oh, yeah. That's the next level. Yeah, go fuck yourself. Like, yeah. I'll try to play that shit off me. Don't ever.
Starting point is 00:05:37 Like, no, no, no, it's cool. We're, like, just good friends. We're, like, brother and sister now. Yeah, we dated for, like, three or four years. But, like, we're, like, just, like, really best friends now. We're, three or four months. I don't know if I can't even,
Starting point is 00:05:46 even three or four days. I don't want to hear that shit from the guy that you're running to after our relationship is on the rocks. All right? Yeah. So, just bringing that up real quick. No, yeah. This is absolutely that friend zone and waiting.
Starting point is 00:06:01 That's almost maybe just been waiting to be that. shoulder the cry on. I was just like, oh, it's okay, you know. And then get it the booty. You used to say would be okay. Suggest little things I should do. Okay, so this is still him talking to the girl. Nice things I should do. And when I'd go home at night and lay my head down all I seem to think about was you. Yeah, dude. This isn't a, I don't even believe that they were ever like, just like friends. Like, no, we're just like it like. He always loved her. She always They didn't like, you know, their schedules didn't match or something was like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:35 She was in school or, you know, some bullshit. What if it was like the girl he's with just kind of was like the aggressor? And like, he was like, he was hanging out with the whole group. And he's looking at, he's like, yeah, she's, yeah, she's. And he's looking at like, Betty, okay, that's the friend, right? And then Jessica comes through and she's like, oh. Yeah, I don't know. What year is this?
Starting point is 00:06:55 Like the Flintstone era? I don't know where I just pulled those names from. I don't know. I'm sorry. Okay. Okay. So then he's just like, oh, yeah, okay, what's up? Yeah, my name's Ersch. And she and Jessica just comes in full storm. Like, full on two-minute drill offense. Like, hey, no, there's 30 minutes of the bar left. I need to pull you back. And then she just like, yeah, comes in swinging all out, full on assault, full arsenal. And Betty didn't stand a chance at that point. She just got to be a friend. Yeah, you're in a toxic state of mind. And you're kind of like, yeah, you know, I'm just playing the field, having a good time tonight. The aggressor typically is going to take over at that point. And you're going to be, all right. Well, I guess.
Starting point is 00:07:29 Jessica was aggressive. Jessica was the aggressor. She took over the relationship, even though him and Betty have been friends for years and used to both. We don't even know that, though. I mean, like, it's literally, I mean, maybe it's, we're still in, like, Act 1 here. Well, he says, you were like my best friend. I mean, I guess you were like my best friend.
Starting point is 00:07:47 You were like my best friend. The like in that is huge. Big part, yeah. That's a huge, because he's like, you were my best friend. He could have said that, right? And that really does add to a friendship. But he says, you were like my best friend. You guys used to fuck.
Starting point is 00:08:00 No, I don't think they used to fuck. Bullshit. I feel like that would have been addressed at some point here. No, he's not to say that. I got it right. I think it was just like they were friends. Maybe they were moving towards the trajectory of like there's a thing between us. And then Jessica just stepped in like, oops, swoop.
Starting point is 00:08:15 And then Betty, because she's a supportive friend of everybody has to be like, no, you guys are really good together. Like, I'm like happy for you. I'm happy. I just think that in your case scenario, that's fine. But Betty was also known him beforehand when they were. kids and she was like the first one to like give them an HJ while the parents were driving the van
Starting point is 00:08:34 and they were in the back seat. That is extra scandalous while the parents are in the her parents. It doesn't matter who's parents it's fucking scandalous. It's fucking scandalous. It's the guy's parents. The guys could be like Give it a it. If you were saying, what the fuck? I need to take a pause.
Starting point is 00:08:48 You need my water. Justin just crossed. Great job back there son. Exponential line right now. Malicious lines. Okay, no I do we just get back to Usher. You're talking about kids giving HAs in the back of the car where the parents are driving to school. Yeah, okay. Ursh, I need you.
Starting point is 00:09:05 Get it. For anything that can between us, you were like my best friend. I don't talk to when me and my girl was having problems. That's right. You used to say it'll be okay. Suggest little nice things I should do. And when I go home at night and lay my head down, all I seem to think about was you and how you make me want to lose. You're the one with the new relationship with you.
Starting point is 00:09:34 This is what you do. Think about and all the things that come along with you make me, you make me. Action ship with you. This is what you do. Come on a lot. And all the things that come along with you make me, you make me. Yeah, what's bad?
Starting point is 00:09:54 You're sure one that hooked yourself up knowing it should have been due. What's sad is that I love her, but I'm falling for you. Uh-huh. Oh, shit I do. Shit I. Tell my baby bye-bye. Shit I do exactly what I feel inside. Because I don't want to go.
Starting point is 00:10:12 Don't need to stay. But I really need to get it together. Oh, yes, you do. Yes, you do need to get it together. Sure, because you are all over the place. You are messing with friends. So now he's changed a story up on your initial story. So Jessica and Betty.
Starting point is 00:10:26 No, I think mine is still completely in play. And I think we just learned the backstory. I'm just adding a story. They're friends. Yeah, they're friends. friends and now he's saying Betty's the one who hooked up Jess. Yeah, so Jessica, so your story's a little off. Jessica wasn't the aggressor.
Starting point is 00:10:40 She wasn't. Betty. Betty liked him. Jessica liked him and Betty did the whole. Yeah, you can get him. You guys should be together. You know exactly. All right, I'm seeing it all coming together.
Starting point is 00:10:50 They were like, Betty's always like Usher. They both have always liked each other. I don't know how far back that relationship goes. They're making it seem like. Let's say they're 24 and they've known each other since they were 16. All right. I was going to go 18. that feels like it seems like another it's like a late high school
Starting point is 00:11:05 they know each other since late high school that's my thing like junior that's the thing is like how many times do you actually really know somebody like consistently regularly through high school all the way to 24 18's kind of when you develop new relationships I feel like so I was gonna go 18 okay well all I know is keeping the my story the HJ in the back of the van with the parents we know we're not going back to the HJ in the back of the van that didn't happen and anybody's sorry I hope it didn't you know if it did it'd be more of a 16 seven year old thing
Starting point is 00:11:32 If they're 18 doing that, you know, come on. This song would be way more intense. There'd be, like, fucking some crazy sounds coming in. Like, it just wouldn't be that smooth, nice R&B song. I don't know. It doesn't matter. Doesn't matter. Stop making me think about that.
Starting point is 00:11:44 Okay. Anyways. Might even give him an LJ if you know what I'm talking about. I don't even want to try to do math on what that means right now. I won't describe it. So, um, don't, you know, y'all don't need to do the math on the LJ either. Like, stop making us think about it. Stop putting letters together, Justin.
Starting point is 00:11:59 Okay. So Betty and Jessica. Real quick, classic line that I use. back in my dating days when I'd be driving you know you're driving past the mall and you see a BJ's you go I love BJs I think you look at it and just stare it never worked but uh
Starting point is 00:12:13 how would it work what were you hoping it was going to work for she's just like me too how were you hoping that was going to play out they always be like oh I love BJs too I like the Pizuki and they have like the beers craft and I'm like I'm kind of messed up my joke but yeah you started talking about the actual menu of BJs
Starting point is 00:12:33 and now we're actually just talking about the restaurant BJs, yeah. So anyways. True story. Anyway, go ahead. I, 100% believe it.
Starting point is 00:12:40 I can actually imagine you saying it and then doing the awkward like three three days. Three looks. Look over three different times. What an eyebrow rate? You're not going to like laugh or you're going to look at that. So I think there's a mall up here. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:12:53 exactly. So anyways, Jessica and Betty were friends. And again, I think Jess maybe was the aggressor, because she just says to Betty randomly like, you know what, Usher is cute. I think we should,
Starting point is 00:13:05 I think like being him would go really good together. And even though her and Usher have had this long relationship for however many years that has kind of been working towards something together, she's just got to go like, oh, yeah, no, totally. Yeah, yeah, I'm friends with them. Like, I'll hook you up. Like, I'll hook you up. Like, I'll tell him tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:13:23 I'll be like, oh, I'm going to text him. putting Usher in this awkward position where he was like, I was actually kind of liking this girl, and now she's the one who's texting me about Jessica. Now, he liked both of them. Don't forget, he says, but. What's sad is, I love her. Yeah, but I didn't finish my sentence.
Starting point is 00:13:41 But the thing is, as he gets it, he's like, but yeah, Jessica's bad too, yeah. Is Jessica, she's trying to make this happen? She's actually doing something about this, Betty, so I don't know, take notes. But like, yeah, all right, yeah, what's up with Jessica? So then they end up getting together, and it's almost like that full,
Starting point is 00:13:56 circle relationship with Usher and Better, now coming all the way around, and now they're just kind of like... So what's happening... You make me. Gotcha. You make me. So what's happening, basically,
Starting point is 00:14:05 going off of your story, is this is basically four years later. Or deeper down in the relationship. How long do you think Usher's been with this girl? With Jessica, he and Jessica, after they got hooked up, I think it's been four years just too much.
Starting point is 00:14:19 This is Usher. That's a long, yeah, early, and we're talking early 20s. But he loves her. So you gotta get the love factor, you know, takes some time to develop.
Starting point is 00:14:25 You gotta be the family. Let's go too. Two years. We'll go two years. And so he's sad, but he never actually, like, he just had deep feelings with the girl because he didn't love Betty yet, but he says it here. He fell in love with Jessica, and he does love her,
Starting point is 00:14:38 but he's really falling in love with Betty. Why? Because Betty comes over for the movie nights. They're like, oh, my friend Betty's coming over, because they've always been friends for years. Or Betty comes over. Is that supposed to be an Usher impression? No, that was Jessica.
Starting point is 00:14:51 Betty come over. I thought we were talking about Usher's point of view at this point. No, no, I'm talking about, like, no. I had it going. This is Jessica. Who are we talking about? I mean, I'm trying to look to her.
Starting point is 00:15:01 This is Usher in a relationship for two years with Jessica, and I'm trying to figure out how Betty is in the picture all the time for them to then change the feelings of love from Jessica and start to have feelings. Because it was always there. Because she has to be around, though. But he says it here, I'm falling for you. She was always around, but, like, now, you know what it probably is? There was just probably a couple of those moments when, like, Jessica was like, all right, I got to go. I got to, like, go, like, take my dog out.
Starting point is 00:15:26 and something and then it was just like usher and Betty and they were just like sitting there and now they're like just chilling on like the hood of the car looking at the stars and then just kind of like this feels right though man my brain went a whole different way my went to like jessica passing out blackout drunk everybody's been drinking and jessica's passed out she's like throw up herself and then betty and you know usher is still up and they're like well you know we got to hang out because she can't hold her alcohol you know and that's how they developed their love was jessica passed the fuck out that's how i thought of it fucked up mine Justin.
Starting point is 00:15:56 Yeah, it goes there. He keeps going to the worst place. It goes to the worst place that we could tie it up to, but like somebody has to and like, then we dissect it. So that's just my extreme. Dissection's got in a lot of directions, yeah. That's what I'm seeing. And possibly giving him an H.J.
Starting point is 00:16:10 Never mind. While Jessica has passed out. Yeah. Or an LJ. Or an LJ. You would like to know in Jeff. Not anymore. Yeah, no.
Starting point is 00:16:21 I don't see that sound. I'm out. I'm out. Should I tell my baby, Bye, should I do exactly what I feel inside? I don't want to go and don't need to stay, but I really need to get it together. Wait a second. That is a lot of contradicting sentences in four bars right there.
Starting point is 00:16:40 Tell my baby bye-bye. So that's him saying like, all right, where it's over, Jessica. Do exactly what I feel inside. That, yeah, do whatever that is. You're not telling us what that is. I'm assuming that is. That's the same thing. Yeah, I think it's the same thing.
Starting point is 00:16:52 But he's making it sound like it's the opposite now, the way that's worded. I don't want to go, don't need to stay. Okay. Then, yeah, then what? Okay, wait. You just said, you want to tell her bye-bye. They're saying you don't want to go, but you don't need to stay. Like, you're, and then he says, I really need to get together.
Starting point is 00:17:10 You do because you are all the fuck over this. You really need to get your shit together, actually, because you are all over the place. Can you imagine if you had a friend telling you this shit, like just sitting down, like, oh, man. I don't know, man. Sounds like me to you. When I'm, like, describing my life style, you're like, dude. If you contradict to yourself that quickly within a sentence, I would backhand you across the back of the ear.
Starting point is 00:17:32 You would hate me for it. I don't want to go. I don't need to stay. I'd be like, yeah, I literally, like, when I hear that, I'm like, I don't fucking... But if I told you, I don't walk around the block. Go walk Ambrosius and then get back to me. I don't know what the fuck to tell you right now. Get together, Usher.
Starting point is 00:17:46 We got the full story now. Can I just say nobody bridges better than Usher? Like, you let Usher hit that bridge, and you, are making dollar bills. Like, this is why, it took us so long to actually get to an Usher song. I know we did Lovers and Friends, and that was more a tribute to the trio of him, Luda, and Liljohn. But like, it is about time. We actually dissected.
Starting point is 00:19:46 Some Ersh Raymond, because, yeah, this is a jam. And he's one of those guys who I talked about this in one of the previous episodes. Oh, yeah, it was when we did Silk Sonic, how Bruno, Bruno Mars is so good in that third verse where he really starts like letting it sing. And as I said in that episode, that is the thing that we used to get it all the time in the 90s. These 90s R&B artists used to really like let it sing in that third verse. So Earth just did that when he got to the bridge,
Starting point is 00:20:15 which is the final piece of the story. So let's go ahead. Finish the story, which we appreciate because I got to take it back to our episode number, uh, Human League episode. What was that? Those five episodes ago. Whatever that was. Don't you want me baby.
Starting point is 00:20:29 Well, we got very disappointed in the first. fact that they only gave us two fucking verses. It was episode 61. Go back. You'll listen. We were very disappointed. Also, Carrie Underwood only gave us like two versus versus or I think she gave us like a little kind of like bridge to it.
Starting point is 00:20:43 But like in terms of story, she only gave us two and they were all about nothing about the really story. And we don't like that. We need the conclusion of story. We need three verses worth a story, people. Yeah. Pinacolada did it. Other songs did it.
Starting point is 00:20:56 Yeah, but Ruberd still. Nobody. Both couples. But it helped. That couple's a fucked up couple. It did help the story come full circle. Yeah, you need three verses to really like tell the story. Which Usher does and finishes and concludes the entire story for us,
Starting point is 00:21:08 so he lets us know what's going to happen in the near future with his relationship with Jessica and Betty. What does he say? At this point, the situation's out of control. I never meant to hurt her, but I got to let her go. And she may not understand it while this is going on. I tried. I try to fight it, but I feel it just to do, me, me, me.
Starting point is 00:21:37 Yeah. So he considers it out of control at this point, but I don't think it's out of control. I think it's just like ushers having a hard time actually getting a grip on, like, how to handle a situation. You're just having a hard time breaking up with a girl and then getting with her friend. I can understand, dude.
Starting point is 00:21:56 It is a tough situation to navigate. You're going to break up the friendship. who knows that Betty actually is into you She's nowhere in the song to say Betty's actually recupert What's the word? Reciprocating That's the fucking word.
Starting point is 00:22:08 Keep the whole. Reciating the feelings of What Usher is feeling here. Betty could just be best friends with Jessica showing him like you know. Oh my God. Would that be a fucking classic as fuck? What if he breaks up with Jessica?
Starting point is 00:22:20 And then he like he hits up Betty and he's like, can you meet me in the top of the hill on third street? She's like you're fucked up. That's my girl and I don't know a fuck about you. You just broke up with my best friend and you just think you're going to get with me.
Starting point is 00:22:30 That's exactly what happens. There's nowhere in this story that he says that Betty is feeling the same way. The only closure that we get out of it is that he basically decides the girl he's with he's not into it anymore. Like he wants to break up with her maybe to get with Betty. We don't really know, but it seems like that's the catalyst. But either way, if he was like really into Jessica, he wouldn't be really feeling this way. He wouldn't be having a whole song about how he wants to start a new relationship with anybody, you know.
Starting point is 00:22:57 Yeah. So he ends it. ends the relationship the feeling is just too strong and she makes him him him makes him want to really makes him want to if you look at the lyrics the last interlude is one two three four five six seven eight nine
Starting point is 00:23:13 of you make me wanna make me wanna it make me want it's actually Usher and Jermaine Dupree right there so that's just Rameeupree right there just doing his producer just locking it down can you imagine him in the studio that day
Starting point is 00:23:32 he was all right I got this wordy I totally can Just getting his Michael on And then just put that in there It's gonna sound good It's gold player Yeah But okay
Starting point is 00:23:44 Thank you Usher You had two friends You fell in love with one of the friends Decide to break up With the other friend So that you could possibly pursue the other friend Or just break up with both of them entirely And be like you know what
Starting point is 00:23:55 Because I have ill feelings And not the true 100% feelings into Jessica Or the girl that I'm with I need to let this go So respectfully I got to say Yeah
Starting point is 00:24:06 Get the right thing Gotta let her go But I will say A situation like this Especially for a point in a young man's life As Usher is right here That could feel like it's out of control That sort of conundrum in your mind
Starting point is 00:24:18 Is something that you're gonna remember For a long time You know like that's gonna stay with you That's gonna be something that like Is gonna help you navigate Everything you do from this point out of the future Because it was a really important relationship In your time
Starting point is 00:24:31 And it was a crazy situation to go through So here's a quick. Let's just keep this story going, okay? Let's act like this story continues. And they broke up, and he does try to get with Betty, right? Yeah. But Betty and Jessica have been friends since they were fucking second grade. We'll go with Jessica and Betty.
Starting point is 00:24:47 I can get with that, yeah. Okay. So what then happens with two friends, they kind of do a lot of the same shit. They kind of do them. So inevitably, when you're with one, it will remind you of a girl that you're the other one. Yeah. The other one. And what does Usher give us a couple years later in another track?
Starting point is 00:25:07 He gives us not only the end of a story the first time with You Make Me Wanna and finishes that one. He also gives us a sequel with You Remind Me of a Girl. So we're going to get to that. We have a double episode. Oh, double episode. Double episode. Because we found out, Usher is talking about the same thing in two different songs, which we love to dissect. And look, we have gone how many episodes?
Starting point is 00:25:29 We've done 65 episodes. And we've only done what one Usher track, and that's just criminal, man. Usher is too much of a little legend. We got to get as many Usher champs in this. Actually, that's not sure. We want it to. We could do his whole discography. Because we could do it like that.
Starting point is 00:25:44 Discography? Discography. Discography. Whatever. Yeah. But like, we're going to focus on two because they both deserve it. And because, yeah, we feel they're connected. Because as I said, this is the kind of moment in a young man's life where he's going to
Starting point is 00:25:57 remember this. And it's going to affect his future relationships. And I think on this next track, you're going to hear how it all plays out. Yo, let me see you in a minute. See the thing about you. That car is the same thing that makes me change my mind. Kind of hard to explain. But girl, I'll try.
Starting point is 00:26:33 You need to sit down. This may take a while. See this girl, she sort of looks just like you. She even smiles just the way you do so innocent she's seen but I was smooth I'm reminded when I look at you but you remind me of a girl see your next whenever I I love I won't believe it this is why I just can't get with you We now have an understanding as to why he broke up with Jessica.
Starting point is 00:27:26 We also have an understanding as to why he can't get it with Betty. He could never be with Betty. This story gets hilarious really quickly because this man is so confused. You were laughing the entire time we're going on. Just because you're thinking about the stereo happening of what he just did in the previous story where he's like, you know what? I like this girl. She's way better.
Starting point is 00:27:46 Like, I'm going with her. And then he's with that girl. He's like, you know what? You remind me of the other girl. She sort of looks just like you. She kind of looks like you and laughs like you. And she did some fucked up shit, even though I'm the one that fucked up because I'm trying to get with her best friend. But she did some fucked up shit.
Starting point is 00:28:04 And I don't like her. And she reminds me too much of you. So therefore I'm done with you too. So in a matter of one song, he was with Jessica, loved Betty, broke up with Jessica to try to talk to Betty. Didn't realize Betty is too much like Jessica. And then was like, fuck this. I'm out. So who's the ultimate loser in this whole scenario?
Starting point is 00:28:19 Like, who's the one that got fucked over most? I don't know. It sounds like Jessica was being fucking fucked up to him. And then I guess it would be Betty, right? Because she now lost her friend Jessica, right? Now, because she took usher because he, you know, came to her after like, I'm going to be with you. You remind me? Is that the first one?
Starting point is 00:28:36 No, what was it for him? You make me want to think all these things. She was like, okay, well, I'm your future love. Then he goes, fuck that. You're too much like Jessica. I'm out. Betty. Counterpoint.
Starting point is 00:28:46 Betty's fucking worst spot ever. She lost her best friend and she got fucked over by the guy that fucked her over. I didn't say she lost her best friend. I mean,
Starting point is 00:28:53 we got to assume that the relationship fizzled. There's definitely a trust issue in that relationship. Yeah. They're never going to be the same. They're never going to be the same.
Starting point is 00:28:59 Exactly. Their fucking friendship's gone. That's what I'm saying. No, I would agree. I think the obvious call is that Betty is the one that got most fucked over in this whole situation.
Starting point is 00:29:08 But counterpoint what I'd like to do. Maybe Betty fucked up the whole thing from the beginning when she didn't stand up for her original feelings about Usher. In fact, Usher also, he just kind of like let the whole situation gloss over as it came to
Starting point is 00:29:23 him. But if Betty had feelings for Usher in the first place, she could have told Jessica right up front. Like, you know what? I know, like, I actually mean him go way back. And I think that we are actually developing something special. So I know, like, he looks cute tonight and you're now suddenly like trying to get with him.
Starting point is 00:29:39 But I think we're actually developing something. So can we just see this play out a little bit? And then that would have left her out of it. And then maybe the whole Usher and Betty thing would have actually pulled off. Like they would have actually, I mean, they would have gotten like, I don't know what, like another two, three years because Usher wasn't going to be locked down. I'd be honest. This imaginary scenario that we have developed, I think, have confused our listeners.
Starting point is 00:30:00 I don't think they're keeping up with the. That's entirely possible. Can we just talk about how dope Usher is in the late 90s and early 2000s? He was putting out bad. He was a dope, dude. He's putting out bad. His one dance move for My Way. My Way was a dope.
Starting point is 00:30:15 She likes it my way. Oh, yeah. And then he does the little foot thing. When I sing out, I'm in. Check me. It was your girl who. You're going to make us play that one, too. Take it this far as.
Starting point is 00:30:30 You were waiting for me to say some lines here. This is why you keep pointing at me. She thinks she's a ball of. Well, why are we playing? Why are we playing? You remind me if we're just going to like sing this on. I thought we went off on us and I'm happy. Right.
Starting point is 00:30:42 No, well, as you know, as you know, don't don't know. No, don't do it. We're not doing that. We're not doing that whole, like, you just sing a bunch of usher songs because it just becomes Justin karaoke. Shut up. Dude, so many people have turned up this episode now. They're like, I didn't even understand the whole Jessica Betty thing, and now they're like, it's just Justin singing a bunch of usher songs. Nine o'clock.
Starting point is 00:31:08 Stop, dude, seriously. Oh, that's genuine anyway, isn't it? What? Yeah, shut up. As you know, I actually dressed up. as Usher for Halloween once doing the MyWay version. I know you were there in Vegas when we did it because I always loved the way he looked in that video.
Starting point is 00:31:23 But I actually have a memory with this music video that is even stronger than that one. This one? Yes. You remind me. I'm going to age myself here. But back when I was in high school, I had a VCR in my room, connected to my TV, and I used to have this VHS tape.
Starting point is 00:31:40 I would like watch MTV, you know, and every single time a music video came on. Because like you could just go to YouTube now. And you're just like, I want to watch this music video. Whenever a music video came on that I liked, I would hit record and be like, oh, yeah. And I would watch that VHS all the time. And you remind me, I remember, like that was one of the first ones I recorded. Because it was like a debut.
Starting point is 00:31:58 They were literally like, oh, that's your day being his new music video, you remind me. And I was just like, oh, new usher video. I got to record this. So I recorded it. And he does this breakdown after the second first, right? That's only in the music video version. and it's like a shot of a street and it's like a silhouette usher it's kind of like got water on the ground it's a dope looking shot and he does this just awesome dance to the instrumental of the track
Starting point is 00:32:23 i used to fucking in my room fucking practice that dance try to learn it he he finishes it with a headstand where he kind of like does like holds a headstand for a second and then he flips out of it and then he runs to like his suicide doors pick up he gets in there and he kind of like does this like dope move and he just jumps in the car. Two things. One, I learned how to headstand based on learning that dance. Two, to this day, sometimes when I'm really feeling it and I get into my car, I do that little, like, he does a little, like, kind of double knee shake and then he just hops in there. I'll still do that from time to time.
Starting point is 00:32:56 Yeah. So, yeah, this song, very influential on a young Ryan Castle. So, yeah, if you want to watch the music video and see the dance, I was talking about, I don't know if I could still nail. I don't know if I ever really could. It's a hard dance. He really gets it. But he's got, like, a hat going on.
Starting point is 00:33:09 It's a lot of, like, you, you, you, you. You. Anyways. So that's what this song immediately reminds me of because you remind me of a video that I used to see. I don't know. It was also a CD that I burned back then. I was all over this track back in the day. So it gives me good memories.
Starting point is 00:33:26 So anyways, I just wanted to get away from the Jessica and Betty storyline for a minute because I feel like we've played that one into the ground. I got three more. They call me U.S. H-E-R-A. You already did that one. My boo. up got my feel of that
Starting point is 00:33:42 these are my confession I never like that song I never like that one I know there's a lot of usher songs this is lazy podcasting right now it's like you know what usher has other songs I can sing them no we're just saying how classic usher
Starting point is 00:33:56 and you know what happened is every time I sing those they're like that's right that usher I forgot about that one I forgot about that one or hate them like you do like the confession one a chick on the side you got one
Starting point is 00:34:08 I just didn't think it was worthy of all the play it got It was just kind of like it was like a later He already made a name for himself So therefore because he made a name for himself The whole confession's album was not my favorite Yeah the one before that The one that had this, you remind me I love that one
Starting point is 00:34:20 I'll give you that I'll give you that Yeah Okay so anyways That's just dope We just want to say that We should play him some more right Go ahead Well you remind me of
Starting point is 00:34:29 Oh no This is why I just can't get it with you Thought that she was the one For me Until I found out She was on her free. X and everyone but me. This is why we could never be.
Starting point is 00:35:11 This is why I'm going to stop it right there because if you are following along with the song, Musically, this right here is where the music video dropped that whole solo performance. It's a great place to pause it right there. And also, this song is pretty dope when you listen to it instrumental. So when you kind of, the only sound is like his feet on like the cement, like dancing, and it's like, you know,
Starting point is 00:36:00 And it just plays the instrumental of it. It's very easygoing scene to like take in because there's like the sunset on the street, silhouette of usher dancing, this music playing. I'm saying if you have some free time today, watch it. You remind me a video. It also features Brandy and Chili from TLC. Now we know. All right, real quick.
Starting point is 00:36:20 And we also going back to the Jessica and Betty story. Jessica was sexing everyone. Everyone. That's why he started falling out of love of there. But he loved her so much that her friend Betty, who would act just like her and smiled just like her, he was like, oh, I'm attracted to her. But then got with her and then realized, you remind me too much of Jessica. It's actually fucked up even further because it says she was sex in everyone but me. That mean, they weren't boned.
Starting point is 00:36:48 Like he was like. Yeah, like you're going to like, okay, it's one thing you're like, that was like, hey, my girl was like running all over town. Was he H.J. and himself? I think he was LJ in himself. Probably. I don't know. You tell me if that makes sense. Oh, it does.
Starting point is 00:37:00 Okay. It's a whole story about Jessica and Betty and him getting it with one girl Then getting with the other one and then realizing the other one's too much like the first one And then just being like I'm out this fucking piece is a bit Well, let's be honest If the girl reminds him of this girl that was sexing somebody all over town Then that's got to be part of it, right? Like you kind of come off as a girl that I think I can't
Starting point is 00:37:23 Well, she acts just like her and she smiles just like her So she's going to think If it's just that she looks like her, that's unfair But if he's looking at her and like the way her mannerisms is like, you know, I've been with a girl like you before and I just, I feel like I can't try. Because that's, that's some real shit. There's like certain kind of girls. He does say innocent she seemed, but he was fooled. So if she's looking innocent, she has that kind of mannerism of innocence.
Starting point is 00:37:47 And he was like, I've already been fucked over by that before. Sometimes you feel like you can't bring a certain type of girl in a certain situation. Suddenly you're like, this girl's going to act a certain way and I can't be around that, you know? So maybe if he's going off of that, that actually justifies this whole song to me. If it's that that he feels like, you know what? This thing about you reminds me of a girl that I've already been with. And I've been around that whole ringer already. And I don't want to get into this.
Starting point is 00:38:12 But if she's 5'3 brunette. And that's all it is. Yeah, that's fucked up. And it's like, yeah. All right. We'll just finish the song off and finish the whole story off here with Usher coming in after the dance, apparently, right? After he does the little solo. Right here, he does a breakdown.
Starting point is 00:38:29 And then he comes up with the song, and only Usher can do it with the, whoa, oh, oh, oh. Hey, and can we let Usher do that part? I'd rather hear Usher do that part. Yeah, me too. Whoa, oh, oh. That was still you, and not Usher? Try to do it again and sound a more like Usher, but.
Starting point is 00:38:55 No, I don't want you to even try it a third time. I didn't even want you to try it the first time. One more time? No, I'm playing it. I'm playing it right now. You know where Usher kills it? Also better than just about anybody else? He closes out the track so well.
Starting point is 00:40:47 You know what castle? You're right. He does finish off songs fucking Usher lets the ride out go better than anybody else because most of the people just let the hook just keep playing like seven, eight times. No, he comes in with like, as it's playing out, he just doubles up on the track.
Starting point is 00:41:25 He's like, you want to mind about out of that. You want to think I don't like to... Like, he just like literally just keeps adding layers onto it until like it really like hits that final. And it's almost like the way an ocean glides across the sand and then pulls back into the ocean
Starting point is 00:41:42 and you're like, that's the end of that one, you know? Usher knows how to close on the track. Usher knows that close out of track. And relationships for friendships and himself. He knows how to close out relationships too. Yeah. Himself and friends. Betty, Jessica, the same girl.
Starting point is 00:41:57 Jessica was kind of doing her thing. Therefore, it reminded him of Betty, Betty broke up, and Betty got screwed over by everybody. That's the general story. Usher. You know, it sounds like you just had a young man's early in the game. They caught a young usher. Young Usher.
Starting point is 00:42:13 He's 22, 23, like he's like, knowing these girls for a while. He doesn't know what to do. He's still young. He's like, I love both of them. I don't know what to do. I like them both. And then he doesn't, you know,
Starting point is 00:42:22 does the wrong thing by breaking up with one, even though she was cheating on him, so he should have. But then gets with the friend, maybe to get back with her. I don't know. But then gets with a friend. No, it wasn't a vengeful thing.
Starting point is 00:42:31 He's just like the friend, but the reminder. But then he doesn't get with her because she's too much like the other one. And it's just like, and maybe she is. Maybe she is. What a crazy story, and I'm glad we combined it like only the DJs can do.
Starting point is 00:42:48 Did you ever put those two songs together and realized that they were actually talking about the same story? Anyone that's had an Usher playlist that put it on shuffle. I'm sure that's happened. No, but they didn't realize it was the same connected story. We seek that shit out. We find it. We get the bottom of it. We get McGiver with that shit.
Starting point is 00:43:04 We put together a hook, a shoelace, and a story. an oracle and next thing you know we seek out some sherlock home shit and we're like you know these two songs they piece together this guy was fucking with jessica but he actually loved betty the whole time but betty told jessica to go for it because she said that she thought i should look cute one day at the club so he was like i'll go ahead and get jessica then they were getting at it but then he was like i was supposed to be with betty the whole time don't forget that jessica was actually cheating on him and doing him and then jessica wasn't being scandalous as fuck and he was like why the fuck am i with jesco you told me i was supposed to get with her betty and then she was like i didn't know what to
Starting point is 00:43:33 do she asked me and then he was like you know what me and you are going to get this and then he was like you know what you remember me too much too much like Jessica I'm out you remind me of a guy oh man slaps and snaps I see you snapping and clapping already what you're giving it and go oh how many was that that was five but with a beat to it and two snaps you know it it got me because uh I was just like doing the beat in my head and it was time for a double clap it was time for a double clap like I was going to do a four slap with like a headstand. I was gonna try to do a headstand right here.
Starting point is 00:44:15 But I was gonna see what that sounds like because it just reminded me. It reminded me of my 10th grade self doing headstands in my room. But I don't feel like doing that right now because that's a whole thing and it could fuck up the set. So yeah, fuck it.
Starting point is 00:44:31 Give it a full on five? So leave it out of five then. So leave it with a five? All right. Maybe just give Usher a five. I'll give Usher five slap. because usher. You go that route with it
Starting point is 00:44:44 because I think he's, it sounds like he sounds like he helped you dance. It sounds like he was something of your childhood that you remember videos. He was the first one there. He's kind of represented himself throughout your life and more music throughout. And just gave a better name to Usher's in general.
Starting point is 00:44:58 So when you think of Usher's, you're like, let me give Usher this credit, okay? Usher's music helped arrive some smoothness in all of us, okay? It was definitely so many songs. You didn't even talk about, You don't have to call, right? That is a great getting ready song. In terms of, like, songs that you want to get ready to,
Starting point is 00:45:17 that you, like, just start moving and you're by the way. Yeah. That's not, you don't have to go at all, but it's a different song. But, yeah, all those songs. Yeah, all those songs are really good songs to, like, just get you going. Like, all right, now I start moving. Now I'm feeling it. Now, like, you get a couple shots in you.
Starting point is 00:45:34 Now you're like, all right, I'm feeling the evening time. Let's get out there, you know. Usher, I think more so than any other artists I could ever think of. Really give that to me. So with that in mind, Usher as a whole, I give the... That was five, right? I kind of like... Five, yeah, but it was with the beat to it, so I liked it.
Starting point is 00:45:57 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Five slabs for Usher, yeah. I got to do it. I got to do it. Before I give my... And a headstand. Oh, he's doing a headstand, everybody. Oh, that's a good one.
Starting point is 00:46:06 Wow, on a couch. He made it work. He made it work. That's good, Steve. I'm actually pretty proud. Don't hurt your neck, though. Tell him how smooth it was. That was actually pretty smooth.
Starting point is 00:46:15 He did it pretty quickly. It was clean. It was clean. He did not go over any equipment. Real quick. You know what song we missed that he did? Real quick. He also a bunch of them. He also was part one of I need a girl. I need a girl to ride.
Starting point is 00:46:41 I don't think you like that one. Are you kidding me? When I was in college, dude, when I was in college, every night I would play that instrumental because I love that beat so much. So even more. I love it so much. I'm going to play that beat right now. Play it on our outro.
Starting point is 00:46:55 Play it on our outro. I'm going to play it on the outro. You're right. We're going to go out on that because. Just throwing some more songs at you that you remind you how much you gave usher a five stars. I'm not even joking. There was like a two month at least period when I was in college where like every night I would go to bed just listen to that song on instrumental.
Starting point is 00:47:09 It was just kind of like it was so smooth and maybe feel good and it would kind of like wish you off to sleep. So, like, yeah. My same song for me. That's an usher, but mine would be Tony Braxton. He wasn't mad enough for me. I was thinking.
Starting point is 00:47:24 Tony dominates that song too much for me. I'm always like, I'm always tripping out because I'm like, why is Tony? Like, she's like trying to sound really masculine. We should probably try to dissect that song. I don't know. It's a good one. It has a good story to it.
Starting point is 00:47:36 We might get into that. We might not. Because that's what dissect you. Anyway, I just wanted to throw a couple more songs. And my collapse for this one. is stomp clap stomp clap I lost track
Starting point is 00:47:48 I don't know what that was three stomp's and four claps It's also shout out to Always Sunny in Philadelphia because I love that show Birds and war yeah yeah but anyways
Starting point is 00:47:56 Usher's one that gets in so many claps not just because of the songs songs remind me of my childhood growing up they have a story to them that's really confusing to follow but once you do you're like man plus his other music
Starting point is 00:48:08 plus other things with Usher I haven't heard anything from the last five years but it doesn't matter He put out 20 years of fantastic work of stuff that I can use for weddings, that I can use for my own house, for everything. I got another one. What you got?
Starting point is 00:48:22 I got another one. Hey, hey, hey, daddy. Oh, God. I'm going to try to give you a attention. Do you have any other ones? You already know what. I don't know. I remember that.
Starting point is 00:48:43 I just want to say that you switched from, we're not turning this into. a shitty podcast about singing usher songs. For the record, that's the first one that I brought up. I just wanted to, you decided to, oh, and that one.
Starting point is 00:48:54 Just wanted to say that you talked shit real quick that you did, and you just started doing it yourself. So, well, because we're at the end of the episode now. Like, once we're at the end of the episode, I think it's fair game.
Starting point is 00:49:03 But, like, also the ratio of songs that we've sang from Usher is like, me too, to your, like, 18. 16. You're 16. I'm so ahead. Add stuff to my thing.
Starting point is 00:49:13 Well, we will go out on the smoothest speed. I think in R&B history, I mean, that's a bold claim. Usher R&B history. Oh, God, I'm out. Real quick, shout to Usher. You're the man. We appreciate you and your music that you've given us.
Starting point is 00:49:26 Come out with some new tracks. We want to hear it, man. Yeah, making me do headstands and the couch in the garage and all that shit, you know? With that said, let's listen to the dopest beat that we both agree on. The dopest!
