And tomorrow a team says, hey, we want to trade this guy and we need some prospects and it betters the ball club. Dodgers will entertain it. Good Monday afternoon to you, everybody. Welcome to a live edition of Dodgers territory.
Starting point is 00:01:54 That is Clint Paseas behind all of the button pushing. He is the director. He's the producer. He's all of the things today on Dodgers territory. I'm Alana Rizzo. We also want to welcome in Jeremy Meyer. Sarah, our producer as well. And thanks for you guys for being here.
Starting point is 00:02:08 and make sure you like us, rate us five stars, all of the things as we work our way to 10,000 subscribers. By the way, Clint Barry Harrison, Jr. is going to be joining us momentarily on the show.
Starting point is 00:02:21 But before that, you're going to push a button that's going to bring up something a little bit different today on Dodgers territory. Yeah, before we get there, I just want to say, look, the Dodgers,
Starting point is 00:02:30 they're not going 162 and O. I think, you know, we had these delusions of grandeur of grandeur that they would go undefeated, but then reality set in. It's a long season and things happen. So it's a little bit of a first world problem for Dodgers fans. Shout out to Derek. Yes, Derek Lewandowski for creating that new front end.
Starting point is 00:02:58 Basically what Clint and I are trying to say is while we said 162 and 0, I even went as far as to say 173 and 0 because we were just going to run the table in the postseason, it is not time to panic, guys. I understand that we want to win every single series. We wanted to go, you know, watch. wire to wire, but that's not the case. They've run into a bit of a bus saw here. The bottom of the order isn't producing.
Starting point is 00:03:19 The pitching was okay. And by Jack Harris pointed it out. Cubs four, Dodgers 2, the daughters are 11 and 6. Los Angeles's offense over their last eight, no start was 45 runs. But in their last three and six slump, they've only scored 29 runs. So, I mean, if you can't score and your pitching isn't great, I mean, you're going to lose some games. So this is the first time since last April, Clint that they've lost three straight series,
Starting point is 00:03:42 which stink. However, it is not the end of the world. It is not time to panic yet. Yeah, that last line is the one I really, really like focusing on. This is sort of a been there, done that situation for this Dodgers team. And we knew Chohayah wasn't going to cover every single run and every point this team is going to score. Freddie has been gone for most of the season. Mookie can't do it all.
Starting point is 00:04:07 And by the way, don't forget a couple weeks ago, he was down X amount of pounds and all of that. Listen, we know the story. right now. The bottom of the lineup is struggling. Pitching is having its ups and downs here and there. Really good pitching over the weekend, at the starting pitching wise. Saturday, worst loss in Dodgers history, worst home loss in franchise history. Yeah, it was an ugly loss. I do want to shout out my buddy Kevin Skinner, who was there for his bachelor party, came out from Chicago. Hell of a game to end up at Dodgers Stadium. But again, this is just part of the story. of a very, very long baseball season, six plus months of baseball, and you're going to have these
Starting point is 00:04:49 moments. And Alana, we were talking earlier today. It's like you would rather have this happen now than in September or worse, October. And again, I do think that this team is so much deeper than they were last year. Clinton, we'll talk about the depth coming up, particularly with the starting pitching when Jerry Hirston Jr. joins us momentarily. But I still think on paper and throughout, this is a better team than they were last year and they ended up winning the World Series. I'd rather have some adversity early on in the year. And I know that old adage that says you can't win the pennant in April, but you can lose it. I'm not concerned about what, I mean, there's still 11 and 6 guys.
Starting point is 00:05:23 It's not like they're the Colorado Rockies, more on them momentarily. Yeah, the shutout loss look terrible. When the Cubs come to town and put up 16, a 16 spot on you at home, that's embarrassing. But you got to turn the page. And Mookie, you know, post game was saying, listen, we're not going to panic because if we panic, it's just going to get worse, right? Dodger Blue, 1958. We love those guys.
Starting point is 00:05:44 I think it's just a bumpy two weeks. We got a long time. We got a long season to go and a lot can happen. This isn't the first time we sucked for two weeks. It just happens that it's right now. If we panic, things get worse. If we don't panic, it looks like we don't care. So what are we supposed to do?
Starting point is 00:05:57 He's basically saying, we're damned if we do. We're damned if we don't. Again, I'm not concerned. And I have to say, even though they lost to the Cubs, the Cubs, or starting pitching against the Cubs was better than it was the series prior to that. I guess that's kind of my silver lining coming out of the most recent loss. Yeah, I guess they didn't look great.
Starting point is 00:06:19 When they don't have the kids in there, my Cy Young pick Yamamoto putting up a hell of a start there, Roki, getting better with time. Tyler Glasnow, when he actually has something to land on, of course he just joined the boys over on Fowl earlier today. So check that out if you guys didn't see it yet. But when Glassnow has a point to land on it's not a muddy mound and all that kind of stuff,
Starting point is 00:06:40 rainy out in Philly, he's a pretty dang good. pitcher as well. So pitching is what's going to win you some baseball games. It's going to win you a title. Defense is going to win you a title. But also, I saw somebody in the chat saying, you know, unless we can start finding a way to have the other team score negative runs, zero runs isn't going to win it for the Dodgers.
Starting point is 00:07:00 Well, you know what? That might actually happen because they start in a series against the Colorado Rockies today. But you know what, though? You have to say, the thing is the starting pitching against the Cubs was pretty decent. I'll take those numbers any day. of the year. But the offense, honestly, Clint was pretty much non-existent. So you have to have a possibility where everything's kind of working together. And the offense wasn't really there. You take a look at what the offense did over the course of the weekend with the Cubs. And even Dave Roberts said,
Starting point is 00:07:27 I think we just haven't synced up offensively. It's going to happen. It's just, you know, I mean, this is what it is. I think that we're just not taking as many good team at bats. Obviously, the guys at the bottom have struggled. And that was a narrative last season, Clint, getting on base. And so hopefully Kike and Miggi Ro can get on base for Shohei and turn that lineup over. I think right now we just haven't been synced up. But I think it'll be short-lived. And I agree with Roberts on that. I think that, again, this is a low.
Starting point is 00:07:53 We expected this team to run the table. And that's just not, that's not baseball. That's just not how it works. No, no, again, you're not going to go 162 and O, despite our clamoring for it. But you also can't survive with your five through nine hitters hitting a combined 176, 51 for 290 so far the season not getting it done and and that's why you're not seeing a lot of run production at the top of the lineup and one through four has done the majority of damage sometimes five if Tommy Edmund's down in the lineup and Freddy's in the lineup but um you know the
Starting point is 00:08:25 things things will normalize things will level out things will balance sometimes pitching is good and offense is crap sometimes offense is good pitching is crap it will find a way like like Dave said, it'll find a way to sync up. You're going to do a lot better. And it's going to take pressure off of guys like Mookie, Shohei, Freddie coming back from the ankle injury. You know, Tommy Edmund, is this dude the real deal? Is this going to be the guy who's slugging, you know, five, 600 or whatever and leading baseball and homers? It's probably not his game.
Starting point is 00:08:56 But right now, this team has been very, very reliant on Tommy Edmund to get the job done, which he did in their one win in that cut. series. But yeah, they need a little bit more help. I need to see something out of Max Muncie. You need to see a little bit more run production out of Will Smith. Will's had a great start to his season. But the bottom of those bottom two spots, whether it be Pahas, whether it be, you know, our buddy Miggie Row in there, whatever it is. You need to see a little bit. Yeah, Conforter. Conforto is very up and down. Yeah, here's the thing to you though. I mean, this is one thing I wanted to bring it up. The Dodgers have been outscored 20 to two over the last two days.
Starting point is 00:09:36 is a big fat yikes but max munsey to your point batting just 176 clint with zero home runs in 24k this season he's going to figure out because the swing and miss is not max's game i mean if if he's not hitting he's that usually at least getting on base uh with the walk so that's going to change a little bit the only player with more strikeouts than munsey in the national league is colorado's michael taglia so um that's going to change i don't believe that max is don't i mean i probably butchered it i apologize but here's here's another thing too show hey otani is just for 32. So he has a 222 average with one home run and 12Ks in his last nine games. But the bottom of the order has been the biggest problem, as we've discussed. LA has a combined 230 OBP, so on base
Starting point is 00:10:18 percentage from its 7, 8 and 9 hitters. The only team worse is the met. So as a result, Otani, who obviously hits lead off in every game this season, only has seven plate appearances with runners in scoring position. I mean, if you don't get guys on base in front of him, it's going to be difficult for him to do much with that. So there you have. have it. I mean, it's not a, it's not a great formula for success, but the bullpen didn't look really good either. So all around, it wasn't, it wasn't amazing. Yeah, no, it wasn't a good product. It wasn't a very complete product put together by the Dodgers. But again, this is part of baseball. To borrow an overused adage from Mani Machado, that's just baseball. That's just baseball.
Starting point is 00:11:00 And let's move on and go to the next day. You know, like you said, Dodgers facing the cut. or the Rockies. Rockies, not a good baseball team by any stretch of the imagination. So you hopefully can feast on them coming up, you know, in this three-game set. You do have some different pitching. I mean, might as well right now. Well, actually, should we go to Nutrafol and then we'll come back because we still need to get Jerry here joining us.

Starting point is 00:13:23 If you guys go support them, support the brands that support us, and we can keep being here and keep having a bunch of good times and good content and all that kind of stuff through another championship season for your Los Angeles. But I guess when we have a moment here, we can talk a little bit about, I'll go to me for now. While we can talk about the Rockies coming into town, we were talking on, I think, last Thursday about the pitching situation. And obviously, Justin Rebleski had a rough start in Philly, I think it was, or wherever the hell they played after Philly, Washington. Robo had a tough start.
Starting point is 00:14:01 The other guy, Landon Nack, who is. That's a start. NAC is going to get a rough start or is going to get another start, but had a rough start there in Washington. But we were kind of pontificating a little bit. Maybe Tony Gonsland could be coming back for the series, most likely not going that route. It looks like it could be.
Starting point is 00:14:21 When he's going out on another rehab assignment, right? I mean, Tony Gonsland's going to go out on another rehab assignment. So perhaps it's going to be Bobby Miller. And this is something I wanted to talk to Jerry about when he comes on the show. We're resending him to link right now. so he can talk to them right now if you want we'll see it right now yeah let's bring him in 16 year big league veteran friend of the program jerry harston jr appreciate you taking the time my brother to be on here uh clint and i were just talking jare about um you know the fact that this
Starting point is 00:14:50 was supposed to be a team as you know covering them every day that had so much pitching depth right and now we're sitting here talking about well who the heck is going to make the next start do you think the majority of the depth obviously is just because it's coming up in the second half of the season. Do we have enough arms right now? I think we have enough arms right now, especially in April. We have a little more days off to kind of cover us a little bit. But that's what we always say, Alana, we've talked about this for years. Ned Coletti's who talked about it for years, you can never have enough pitching.
Starting point is 00:15:23 I mean, you can go into a season with six, seven starters. You have three or four starters that you can rely upon in AAA, but you can never have enough arms because injuries pop up out of nowhere it seems like last season we had to deal with deal with so much injuries to our pitching that's why we were so aggressive on blake snow that's how we were so aggressive on adding other arms to the bullpen so i think we have enough to cover we have guys in triple a who have experience of pitching in the big leagues i'm sure guys would be called up to to spots start here or there but you can never have enough arms at the big league level You brought up Blake Snell, Jerry, which is something I wanted to ask you.
Starting point is 00:16:05 They signed this guy because he was known to be a workhorse. I mean, this is a guy that you knew was going to take the ball every fifth day because some of the other guys have had injuries. Let's be honest, Tyler Glasnow, you know, those types of guys. You don't know what you're going to get second year from Yamamoto. Shoah is working his way back. Hirsch is working his way back. Obviously, May is working his way back off of two surgeries. How much do you think Blake Snell going down this early, even though Blake Snell and April is very different than Blake Snell?
Starting point is 00:16:32 the second half of the season. How much you think that hurts this club? Well, certainly it hurts us because he's an ace. He's a two-time Sy Young Award winner. He's a guy that knows how to pitch. He's an innings eater, as you mentioned, when he's healthy. And, you know, I'm glad that he's, he had said something, though. You know, his shoulder was bothering him. And I think if those were the postseason, he would have battled
Starting point is 00:16:54 through it. But since it's so early in the season, it's April, he wanted to kind of nip it in the bud. So they were very, being very cautious with him, but hopefully we get him back when his aisle sit is up. Because certainly, not only the innings eater, he's the guy that gives you a chance to win every single time he takes a mound. So I know he's kind of itching to get back, but once he gets back, hopefully he'll be back the rest of the duration of the season because he's certainly a game changer. Jerry, we know, you know you need pitching to win some ball games.
Starting point is 00:17:28 You also need some offense to win some ball games. we're talking before you joined us live here. Bottom of the lineup has definitely been the area where we could say people aren't really getting it done. A couple of guys hitting under 200. I think five through nine are hitting 176 so far this season. What's your level of concern with the bottom of the lineup? And, you know, is it just early season baseball and these guys, you know, take some time and figure it out? Or we're going to see some changes in there.
Starting point is 00:17:57 Maybe Hess-on Kim coming up from AAA, some other guys. from AAA? What's kind of your taste for the bottom of the lineup at the moment? Well, certainly as up to this point, they have not performed to their capabilities. And those guys would agree with that. Certainly are better than, you know, the 170s that you just said that they're hitting. And they're off to a slow start. I don't care who you are. You're going to get off to slow starts if you play a long time in your career.
Starting point is 00:18:24 So manager Dave Roberts continues to believe them. We believe in them. I know last season, the bottom of the lineup, I got off to a little bit of a slow start. And in the second half, they really found their footing. And we got to be one of the more deeper lineups heading into the postseason. So in order to repeat as champions, we're going to need production really one through nine. Championship teams have to be productive. That doesn't mean everybody's going to hit 300.
Starting point is 00:18:53 Guys are going to hit 320. You would love that. But that's tough to do. but the biggest thing is being productive. Are you a guy in that lineup that can hit 250, 260, 270, and be able to move runners over? Put the ball in play. And that was the biggest key.
Starting point is 00:19:10 We got Tommy Edmund last year at the trade deadline. He linked in the lineup, but he helped other guys with his style of play by putting the ball in play and not striking out. I think that's the biggest key. Can we get guys back into putting the ball and play and cut down on the strike? They understand that. And hopefully they'll make their adjustments.
Starting point is 00:19:31 I know the last, you know, 10 days, two weeks has been rough for this ball club. But if you play a long time, you understand 162 games is a grind. You're going to have 10 days, two weeks. We're just not going to be there. And hopefully the Dodgers' offense kind of finds their footing sooner rather than later. Jerry, this team is full of versatile players. We know that. They've built themselves on versatility.
Starting point is 00:19:52 You were the first ever, you know, true super utility guy in the big leagues. Now this team has a ton of them. but they don't have a natural center fielder. Do you go out and get a natural center fielder before the deadline? Well, I don't know if I was the first, a lot of being too retailing player. There were a lot of guys that obviously can fill that role, but I appreciate the compliment.
Starting point is 00:20:15 But yes, guys are extremely versatile. You have Tommy Edmund, Kiki Hernandez, CT3. I think, you know, I just saw the line up today. Tommy Edmund will get the start in center field. We know Tommy is a really good center fielder as well. Kiki is going to get a start at second base. I think kind of juggle things around, get this offense kind of going a little bit. I think the Dodgers, and rightly so, like to kind of see how things play out.
Starting point is 00:20:44 You know, 20 games, 30 games, that's not a really large sample size. Pahas is off to a slow start with the bat. He's a natural corner outfielder that's learning on the fly to learn. plays center field. He's played center field pretty good, but we definitely, definitely need to get his back going. Around 125 to 150 at Bax or so, that's when you really start to judge a player. I think that's what they're going to do with Pahas, and hopefully he comes around swimming the bat. Because when he is swinging the bat, he could be a guy, could be a difference maker area lineup. So right now,
Starting point is 00:21:17 they're going to mix and match, see who sticks in center field. But if at the trade deadline, there's a guy out there that can help us and make us better, they definitely will explore that option. But right now, I think they're going to stand back. Yeah, we did hear a little bit about, you know, maybe some Luis Robert Jr. rumors popping back up again. Do you think this is something where maybe, I mean,
Starting point is 00:21:39 obviously this front office is always working. They're always looking ahead, trying to find ways to optimize this roster. Do you think there could be a trade sooner in the season, or is there more likely that they're going to see what they have internal before they kind of get out of organization? I think what you always want to do is see what you have internal, you know, see what you got. But if there's a guy who can better your ball club, like I just said that, you know, we would like to wait toward the trade deadline, see, you know, who becomes available.
Starting point is 00:22:09 But if there's somebody who could help us now and a team is willing to trade and is aggressive in that trade request, then the Dodger was entertained. You know, Dodgers are always looking to better their ball club. And that's the biggest thing that I've always appreciated as a player, when they're teams that are aggressive that are trying to better their team. You know, whether it was the Yankees, whether it's the Red Sox back of the day as well, the Dodgers obviously this generation. I love teams that are always aggressive trying to better the ball clubs. So the Dodgers historically have been that way. And if tomorrow a team says, hey, we want to trade this guy and we need some prospects and it betters the ball club, Dodgers will entertain it. No doubt about Andrew Friedman in that front office goes after everybody they can to make that team better.
Starting point is 00:22:58 Let me ask you your opinion on when a team that you're on, Jerry, is getting absolutely just beaten to a pulp like the Dodgers were 16 to nothing against the Chicago Cubs. And you have a position player pitching. And Miguel Rojas is just having a little bit of fun out there, kind of mimicking his teammates in terms of their stances, their deliveries. Some fans took offense to that, that perhaps he was, you know, he's not taking it seriously. He's, you know, he doesn't, you know, he shouldn't be joking around. They're getting killed. I don't look at it that way. I look at it differently.
Starting point is 00:23:28 I mean, it's a long flipping season. You know better than anybody having played 16 years in the show. What is your takeaway from Miguel on the Hill doing these types of things, mimicking his teammates? Well, it's a thing where you have to appreciate the big league as far as getting your butt kicked. That night, we lost by two touchdowns with 16 and nothing. We literally got our butts kits. I mean, let's call a spade a spade of spade. At that point, obviously, when you have a position player pitching,
Starting point is 00:24:00 you basically have conceded, we just got our butts kicked, okay? So you have a little fun. It's a long season. You understand that as a player, and you try to bring some light to what just happened to you on that particular light and try to turn the page. Obviously, the next night the Cubs still took it to us, they beat us. but you have to be able to have a short memory and be able to turn the page because it is a long grind
Starting point is 00:24:27 because if you continue to grind your mind and dwell on those losses, then you're not going to be able to be ready for your success. Last year we saw the Kea Hernandez, right? You know, took them out a couple times because we got our bus kicked and guess what happened to us? We're able to win the World Series.
Starting point is 00:24:44 You understand at the big league level, you're going to have to take some losses, you know, just like in life. You're going to have to take some out. but are you preparing yourself to be ready for that championship run? And I'm not worried about the Dodgers in that aspect. You're going to take some losses, but you've got to be able to turn the page. Mickey was having fun, the pitchers were having fun with it.
Starting point is 00:25:07 It's a long season, and you've got to be able to turn the page, and they did that that night. Hey, you know, the Dodgers out here taking some losses, fans losing their minds. They're in third place right now. five, only five games over 500. And those Padres, man, those Padres are looking pretty good. Of course, you played for just about every ball club in Major League Baseball, probably AAA, AA, everywhere, a few independent ball teams. What do you think about this, this Padres organization?
Starting point is 00:25:33 Is it you buying into their hot start or maybe a little bit of strength of schedule? Where are you out on the Padres, Jerry? I think the Padre are a good team. They're a good team last year. You know, if you really look at it, the Padres should have beat the Dodgers last season. They were in position to do so. They were one win away. The Dodgers wore picks a bullpen game in that elimination game and found a way to win
Starting point is 00:25:57 because they had obviously tremendous character and leadership in the clubhouse and they end up winning at home. So the Padres are a very good team. So I'm not surprised about their start. They got electric players. You know, I love the kid Jackson. I know he's injured right now. There's center field who's a stud. Fernando Tatis Jr. is as good as it gets, especially when he's hot.
Starting point is 00:26:16 Mani Machado. as good as it gets at third base. So Pajas are a great team. So no surprise to me. I will tell you a team that I don't want to say I'm surprised. Is they're a little ahead of schedule, in my opinion, the San Francisco Giants? They're playing good baseball. I know Buster Posey has done a great job.
Starting point is 00:26:35 They've taken the analytics and now have joined marriage with old school type of baseball. And I've always said that's dangerous. Anytime you take the analytics with old school points. players that know how to win and know how to form a team, that's dangerous. That's what the Dodgers have done. You know, they have an old school type of team, gritty players like Akit Gay, CT, obviously Tommy Edmund, Mukie, Freddie. Freddie wants to be there every single night playing with the analytics.
Starting point is 00:27:04 That's dangerous. So certainly the San Francisco Giants are off to a really good start. All right. Jerry Harrison, Jr. We always appreciate the insight. We know that you're out there with John Hartung and Nomar at Chavez, I hope you and Hartung have some time to go to Knicks in Manhattan Beach and get some biscuits. Jerry Harrison, we love you.
Starting point is 00:27:24 We'll talk to you soon, my friend. Alana, Alana, you know I love those biscuits. Can you guys send me a copy of this because I want to share this with Nomar and John when you, Alana, call me the first super utility player in the history of the game. In the history of the game. I want to send this to Cooperstown, too. Maybe there's a small plaque I could put in the closet. There's Josh Rowwich.
Starting point is 00:27:48 We can get him on the phone about that. I will make sure that we get you a copy of this as the first super utility in the history of the game. Jerry, we appreciate you very much, my friend. Take care. Hey, let's get Club Ravine going tonight, Jerry. Let's get Club Ravine going. Jerry here's what a guy. A quick word from A.J. Prusinski and Scott Braun on Arena Club.
Starting point is 00:28:10 F.T. Fam, Arena Club is the modern way to collect cards or buy or sell or trade or even grade. And we're highlighting slab packs because this is the new way to rip open a pack and get a really good card, AJ, but also if you're not into the card, like I know you pulled a Bob Gibson card recently, you can get an offer of 90% of the estimated value and just accept it on the spot and give it right back and maybe try again with another slap pack. I ain't getting rid of my Bob Gibson autograph card. Bob Gibson ain't signing cards anytime soon. So I'm keeping this one. It gets graded for you. There's no mess. The only thing I wish they had bubble gum.
Starting point is 00:28:44 Can they virtually send me some bubble gum? bubblegum's cut. Other than that, it's awesome. You can buy, sell cards. They grade them instantly for you. And physically, you can also get the cards if you want them. So I'm all for this. This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Yeah, those cards are in your showroom in the app. And then, of course, you can get the card physically sent to you. So right now, you can get 20% off your first slab pack or card purchase by going to arena club.com slash fowul. That's arena club.com slash foul. Code foul for 20% off your first purchase. Starting point is 00:30:22 He's the sweet, sweet, sweet boy came from Devor's shelter. They were going to kill him because he had a runny nose. And that's what the shelter system in Los Angeles and Los Angeles County does, but he's super healthy. All right. So we don't have time for not my problem. But basically what's coming. We do. We do.

Starting point is 00:30:49 The Rockies are good. And that's not. or sorry, the Rockies are bad, and that's not my problem. It's not my problem. I mean, talk about not my problem. The Colorado Rockies not scoring a run over the series with the San Diego Padres on the road is not my problem. Could always be worse, Dodgers fans. Yeah, listen, Dodgers got to get healthy.
Starting point is 00:31:15 They got to get healthy against the Rockies here. They have a prime opportunity to do so, even with Land and Nack getting, to start, even with most likely Bobby Miller making his 2025 debut, got Dustin May on the bump tonight. And I feel pretty confident about this team seeking an angry win. And like I told Jerry, I want to see Club Raveen popping right now or tonight at Dodger Stadium. I want to have us going live tomorrow post-gaming talking about going for the series sweep
Starting point is 00:31:45 on Wednesday night. And again, this is the ball club to do it. Padre, or sorry, Rockies, three and 12 this season. Just never a good ball club. Dodgers better than they are playing. And this is again, feast. You cannot let the Rockies be a trap series either.
Starting point is 00:32:00 Yeah. Because the Rockies are terrible. You can't, you know, you can't take this team lightly. I mean, they're still big leaguers, kind of.
Starting point is 00:32:07 Something like that. So there's that. And then Owl of Minerva saying your Padres are beating us, calm down. All right, what's coming up on all Dodgers with Clint Pisias?
