And ladies, gentlemen, the Dodgers won a baseball game. The Dodgers won a baseball game. You know what? I don't do it too often on this show, but it's a reason to fire up the old soundboard. You take two or three in Detroit.

You had to do that at the bare minimum. Ideally, you sweep the series. But, you know what? We don't need to talk about ideally. We need to talk about the fact the offense woke up a little bit in this game. How about Teasca Hernandez doing something with the baseball bat in this game? Guys, sound off in the chat. This is the final game of the month of August. The Dodgers finish with 82 wins now. We're at 82 wins, so I'm trying to find my numbers here. 82 and 55 on the season following a 6-1. I guess you can call it a blowout for this Dodgers team of late. Six-one victory over those Tigray's Teo, like I already mentioned, two hits, has the bomb in there. Freddie Freeman, another nice showing for Fredward. Let's get into it.

I guess I've already gotten into it there. That's it. Buy everybody. Teo was the real difference maker. We got a lot to talk about, obviously, that Thubbush. Three-run, eighth inning, music to everybody's eyes, which is totally a turn of phrase that people have. But Teoska Hernandez, you get into the sixth inning there, just more of the same for this team where they are not taking advantage of opportunities. There's unclean baseball happening early in the game.

You have a situation in the fourth. You know, Freddie with the one out. Oh, wait, no, no, the second inning. Freddy walks, Miguel Rojas doubles with an out. Then you get the Tucker K, where you would hope for maybe a sack fly, something that it feels like this team had been allergic to of late, some sort of run production they had been allergic to, just driving in runs, which is an important factor in winning some baseball games.

he flies out or strikes out that's pretty much the ending there in the fourth inning you get the first run of the game with a sack fly makes a difference there freddie with the one out single makes a big difference in this game still doesn't have the massive power did you get a double in this game did freddie but uh freddie with the one out single you get the teo double and miguel rojas doing something Miguel rojas puts up a professional at bat And I think we need to have a little bit of a dialogue of right now getting him in the lineup a little bit more. It's not always perfect. It's not always pretty.

Yes, he's older. Yes, maybe you don't want to play him every single game. But right now, I would argue up to that point, for sure, he was given this team, giving us all the most professional at bats on the active roster. But here we go. We got a new graphic. I'm going to put up the good, bad, and ugly of this game as we talk about the. But yeah, so you tie the game up at that point there.

After, of course, the bottom of the fourth inning, the Tigers take a lead there, one-nothing lead off of a just absolutely otherwise dominant Tyler Glass. I'll talk about him. But Kevin McGonicle, who is absolutely nasty, gets the RBI single. But the Dodgers lineup, you see Kyle Tucker, very cold, Shohei Otani, Tommy Edmund, not doing much out of the top of this lineup, out of the top of the order there. But let's get into the sixth inning because once again, Freddie a factor,

Freddie with the leadoff double, Teoska Hernandez, immediately follows with the two-run Bamba. And it's worth noting. It's worth recounting the fact that up to that point the Dodgers had just one homer on this road trip. If you want the dub, you got a slug to borrow from my friend DMAQ, they don't play well when they're not hitting homers. That's just a reality.

also don't play well when they're not being good run producers. Shocker, you need runs to score, you need to score runs to win some ball games there. But is that the home run? I mean, Teo dropped the hammer on that pitch. He deserved to sit there, stand there, and admire it. Goes a long way into the night as 12th homer of the season. Dodgers take the 3-1 lead up to that point. He deserved it.

And you have to wonder, is that the. hit that gets Teo going. Of course, it is off the left-hander in Framber Valdez, who of course also puts together a stellar outing against Dodgers, somebody who, a dude who has just a terrible, terrible ERA this year, has had, you know, he's been miserable for the Detroit Tigers. Does that Homer get Teo going? Because it felt different. Maybe this is just me being hopeful. maybe this is trying to create something for Tay Oscar, who, again, just, it's been a rough stretch. It's been a very rough stretch for Teos. Let's get some Tei Oscar stats up here on the screen.

This, of course, changes a lot for him statistically, but the numbers just, or at least a recent vintage statistically, but the numbers as a whole, this season, Taye Oscar Hernandez, is not very good. we know, we assume, we believe, we hope in our heart of hearts that Teo gets it going as the game start meaning more right now. Heading into September, you wrap up August, you head into September, the lights start to get brighter, the months, the days start to get a little cooler, maybe Teo heats up as things trend into September than in October. But another bigger factor. It's not just Teo, as we've mentioned, a number of times, either here or on my All-Dodger show. And by the way, we will be live later on tonight, 7 p.m., myself, Jeff Spiegel, potentially, there will be a snide dog with us. The other question, does this homer, does that homer, did that Homer get the Dodgers going?

You could argue maybe it did, because later on you, there's still some moments of unclean baseball in there. the seventh inning, Kike Hernandez gets picked off, and you're like, what are you guys doing here? You had that moment, and again, earlier in the game, just not taking advantage of situations that the Los Angeles Dodgers usually take advantage of. Sack flies, you know, just playing baseball the right way, playing clean baseball, taking advantage of opportunities that are given to you. They haven't been doing that well, and they've also been kind of taking opportunities away from themselves. LP in the chat saying, nope, that home run was nothing of import. I don't know. I feel like you're joking. I feel like you're joking there. But let's flash forward. Top of the eighth inning.

Mookie with the one out double. And they said in the broadcast, that one sounded different. That was a little bit different of, of, just, it was loud. It was loud off the back of Mookie Betts. And that's something you need for Mookie Betts. but this was an inning where the Dodgers built a little bit. They took advantage of Detroit kind of to borrow from Chris Taylor, shitting down their leg a little bit, but you get the one out double for Mookie.

You get Freddie Freeman earning the walk, a Detroit error as they tried to pick Mookie off at second base. Tia Oskar Hernandez hit by a pitch. Then you get the wild pitch. Mookie scores. Max Muncie, pinch hit RBI single. We love that. And then another wild pitch, Teo scores, that gives Dodgers the 6-1 lead, the ultimate.

Ultimately, what was the final score, nine hits in the game for your Boys in Blue to go against, what is it? Three walks, two walks total? Where are we at? Three walks total. There it is. I found the number in front of me. I don't know. I'm happy.

But he was just like, yeah we got to figure some things out you know I got some some pregame Dave we will get into more of the good stuff we will get into the glass now and and pitching side of things but here's Dave kind of addressing the fact that up to you know leading into this game this is a team that looks old

they look beat up they look tired kind of what's going on here's Dave this like isn't an excuse but just how much when you look at all the little things that are to be able off right now and it kind of just boil back to guys being worn down at this point just kind of mentally fatiged without just like this point of the season, but how much you guys have played the last couple of years? I can get that sense that that's kind of part of what's happening here. I hear the thought that the games we played in the last couple years, you know, part of the year, the grind, I get all that.

But I just have a hard time, you know, accepting that. But I think that there's an argument to be made for. that but I just feel like today I look at the lineup and I feel good about our guys and so you know it's up to all of us to put forth that effort today but yeah I get the question when Dave doesn't have so much of an answer he's a little bit at his wits end um yes the team is tired they deserve to be tired it's a lot of baseball to be played over a short amount of time um or a long amount of time really they've they've play a lot of baseball with the postseason, going to the World Series, and we've mentioned this ad nauseum, the WBC,

opening a season in Korea. With that, you start your ramp up earlier in spring training, opening the season in Japan. With that, you start your spring training, you start your ramp up earlier. There's not a lot of time for some dudes who are now into their mid and later 30s to kind of rest up and recover. Is it a good excuse? No. Is it something that everybody wants to hear or anybody wants to hear?

No, and you shouldn't, but it's just a reality. The team is a little older. The team can be a little tired at times. I'm going to go ahead and pause for a second. We got to talk about Tyler Glass now. We are going to come back. There's another super chat, by the way, about Shoheyotani. I want to talk Shohayotani in this show. But first, I want to talk Tyler Glass now because we want to talk something positive. Glass has been great. since coming off of the IL. You get rid of that first inning, you know, coming back out of the IL, three runs in that

first inning at Dodger Stadium last week or whenever it was. Was it at Dodger Stadium? No, that's right. It was, it braves. He started this road trip and he ends this road trip. He was just coming back from injury, missed it three months, four months, whatever it was up to that point. I'll give him a pass.

You give him a little bit of a pass there. to that he locks in for, what is it, four scoreless. And he drop in seven innings, one earned run today, three ERA since returning from the IL. You get rid of that inning, 0.82 ERA. And he, again, he's just looked absolutely dominant on the bump for this team. The stuff is good, the poise is good, the fastball is good, the location. One of the things I really, really loved out of Tyler Glasnow in this game was when the Dodgers, did take that lead. Obviously, they scored first.

He gives up the tie or whatever. Gives up a run in the bottom of the fourth. That's what the Dodgers take the lead. Part of it, thanks to unclean baseball, you had the wild pitch. Maybe you want a little bit of a better attempt out of Ben Roartvet there. But after the Dodgers retake that lead with the Tay Oscar home run, in the top of the six.

Bottom of the six needed to be a shutdown inning out of Tyler Glowse now, and he provided. He has been exceptional, 100%. Love everything about this dude. Skier loves baseball in the chat. Got some flowers in here. Flowers for Glass. No idea if we're going to hit come October,

but I'm damn sure we're going to pitch well. The Otani situation might be a blessing in disguise. Maybe he punts on pitching and the bat wakes up. Yes, I do want to talk Shohei. But Glasnow, yeah, you have, without Shohei, you have just such

such a stellar, still knock on desk, knock on wood, everybody stays healthy, but a stellar one through four with scoble, with Snell, with Glasnow, and of course with your World Series MVP, Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

I think, I said it yesterday on my all-dodger show and we'll talk about it more tomorrow alana is back katie should be with us it's a little up in the air on whether or not katie will be able to join because of reasons but it's good to have risback catch her up uh she's back home back in the states and clearly you know the dodgers took that to heart they won a baseball game for her today but uh my opinion and i'm not being bold and i've been saying it for a while now i think show needs a rest i think uh i think he needs to probably hang up the pitching spikes, I guess, is what I'm going to say, which is a stupid way of saying it.

Just shut it down on the mound this year. Your body is not right. Dave Roberts said he's not 100 percent, just kind of all over mentioning that yesterday with Shohei. You have enough pitching. I think he needs to acknowledge that the Dodgers have enough pitching. And maybe he finds a way to sneak in later in the series or later in the postseason. and be a factor, but to try to build up to a starter's workload, it's not going to happen. And he is so much more important to this lineup as a hitter, to the Dodgers as a hitter,

that I would rather at this point see him get a 10-day reset or even just have him sit on the bench for a game, three games, I don't know, something to rest that knee because it's not right. And I appreciated the trepidation from the broadcast booth today to talk about Shohay and his struggles, because I agree with something Joe Davis had said. It's like every time you say something bad, not necessarily bad, but every time you point out that, hey, Shoah is kind of struggling right now. Maybe he should get a rest. He goes out there and goes like four for four or drops two homers or whatever it may be.

He likes to shut up media people. And it's happened to me a number of times where I've been really, really just, you know, shouting from the rooftops, give the man a break. And then he'll drop a three-hit game. And then I'm like, well, I just got to shut up now. But it's clear as day, at this point, Shohay is struggling. Four for his last 27, that is batting average under 150. So it's, well, sorry, it's four for 27 on this road trip. Since he had that four-hit game in Colorado, he is six for 45.

That is a batting average around about 130. Just one homer, just two runs batted in. And you don't need to be some, you know, big city lawyer or what's another word? What's another probably smarter? You don't need to be a hitting coach to look at Shohei, see this. swing and see that something is wrong. Yes, the numbers on the season in totality look pretty dang fine. 30 homers have been stuck there for a little bit, all of the, you know, stat cast type stuff off the charts with the red. But right now, he's, he's living on, you know, banked up equity.

And you got to get him going again. And the swing seems just off. It seems wrong. It seems like it's more of a struggle for him to use that lower body, something I think Hershey's were saying, Bulldog was saying in the broadcast, you're seeing the lack of separation in your swing. He has a left-handed swinger. It is that left knee, his back knee, and you've got to be able to twist,

to put some pressure on that leg and kind of torque it and contort it in weird ways when you are swinging. and if it's hurting him, that's the type of stuff you would see. You would see somebody favoring that leg, not really getting into their swing as much, getting into that rotation and push off,

which I know I'm moving my hips here. You guys can't see it. Nobody wants to see that. But getting into that turn and rotation and pivot and create generating force from your lower body, if you can't, if you feel like you can't push or twist off that, that back leg, you're going to get into situations like this, and now you need to worry about developing bad habits with that swing.

Is there enough time with a month left? Is there enough time? Was it 24 games, something like that? Is there enough time for Shohei to get a break, kind of put some work in the cage, and, you know, get the swing right, get it back, get it back to MVP Shohey. way, it's not your MVP anymore.

PCA is going to be your National League MVP, and I don't care, as long as they win a World Series. That's all you've got to do. And Shoahe can help this team win a World Series, and three rings looks better than a fifth, three World Series rings look better to me than a fifth

Sometimes the magic of the past is not the predictor of the future. They had a base knock in this game, looked okay in center field. Three Kays. Three punche's for Kiki. Not ideal. Not ideal. And the center field situation with Andy Paez

out is going to remain not ideal. I know I've seen some people on the internet. They see Luba. Luis Robert available after being placed on waivers by the New York Mets. Somebody for years who has talked about, future Dodger Luis Robert, has not been a good year for my dude. No stretch of the imagination, 224, the OPS around 700, which honestly on this team would be pretty good. A little bit better of late.

The OPS over 1,000. He was heating up a little bit more recently, a little bit less so. If you're going to add an outfielder, and I know he's not a centerfielder, Luis Robert Jr. is a centerfielder. If you're going to add an outfielder, make it James Tibbs III. Make it Jose de Paula. Probably less so, Josue de Paula, but make it somebody internal. Make it somebody who has earned it, like James Tibbs.

Is that a great year? Is he a perfect prospect? No. Would he struggle at the big league level? Probably. But he had also probably excel in his first few games, a few weeks, few starts, whatever it may be, a few appearances, few outings until the league adjusts, and it's up to him to adjust back. But all you need right now is a little bit of breathing room for Andy Pahez to come back. You need a month of breathing room. That's a reality there, because Pahas' best case scenario is back for that final series of the regular season. then all things go well, all things go according to plan, you know, then you're in a position to get that buy and so on and so forth, all that kind of stuff. I'm trying to get to my damn screen here to show where the standings are because I don't know if you guys noticed yesterday after that loss, the Dodgers did lose control of that first round by the Braves ahead of them right now tied with them right now but the Braves by virtue of

having a better head-to-head record I believe they would get that by still baseball to be played I don't know if the Braves are even done playing their game today so I'll go ahead and look at that right now let's see what we got yes and they have one so they would still I guess keep that technically keep that advantage there but the Dodgers are in control and hopefully a game like this, a happy flight back to L.A. is going to do something different. It's going to, it's you win a game,

you put the rest of the road trip behind you, you win the game, you win a series, you have your celebration tequila, you enjoy a flight back home to L.A. You have tomorrow off and then you get back after it. That's what you do from here.

So, hopefully this is a big game. Hopefully this is a big difference making game and all of the the terrible vibes, just god-awful vibes of the month of August where I think they finished 500, which is just weird for us. We're not used to as Dodgers fans, Dodgers, you know, being painfully mediocre. Where are we at right here? Yeah.

So they finished 13 and 14, one game under 500 in the month of August, which is again, plainly something we're not used to. Final things I didn't touch on The bullpen Bullpen usage I will critique Dave Roberts So I don't like I did not like Kyle Hurt

Going to Kyle Hurt in that situation You guys know me Love Kyle Hurt But I feel like after you just Had that three-round inning You took advantage of them While also You know contributing in your own way

To you know Taking a 6-1 lead You got to step on their throats there You need to step on their throats there You need to step on their throats after a three-run inning. I love Hurt, but he has just been way too inconsistent, and you had Evan Phillips warming already. Phillips had been on a little bit of a heater of late.

Of course, it proved to not be an issue, thankfully, as Kyle Hurt worked around a walk in that inning, got a punch out as well. And then I know a lot of folks excited, Seth Halverson, Seth Halverson, closing it out there in the ninth. Not a save opportunity, of course. But funny enough, the guy who throws 100 miles an hour getting three outs on weak contact with breaking stuff.

You get the slider fly out. You get the splitter out. And then Kevin McGonicle with the splitter fly out to center field to end the game. Intriguing arm to watch. An intriguing arm to watch is Seth Halverson. I don't have too much more to add. Dodgers win.
