I'm Daniel Alarcon, and this is my friend.
This is much more famous than I am.
I wouldn't go that far, but I'm John Green, co-host at the podcast The Away End, with my old friend Daniel.
On our podcast, The Away End, we'll share with you the magic of international football, all leading up to the 2026 World Cup.
Together, we'll find out why, of all the unimportant things, football, soccer, is the most important.
Listen to The Away End with Daniel Alarcon and John Green on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Hi, I'm Danielle Robe, host of Bookmarked, the podcast by Reese's Book Club.
And this week on Bookmarked, we're basically hosting the Ultimate Girls' Night.
Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Garner, Judy Greer, Rita Wilson, and Gari Rice, and author Laura Dave.
These are the women behind season two of the Apple TV series, The Last Thing He Told Me.
We're talking about turning a book into a hit show and what it really takes to bring a story to life.
The most important metric for me is do I want to share this?
book with somebody. That's what creates community, and that's the main thesis of our book club
and why we started it was just to connect people together. Listen to the bookmarked by Reese's
Book Club podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Movies can make you feel, make you dream. Sometimes they even make you appreciate architecture.
Is there anybody who's been hotter in a doorway than Elizabeth Taylor?
That's the kind of analysis you'll find every week on Dear Movies I Love You, the new podcast from the Exactly Right Network.
Every Tuesday, we break down the films we're crushing on, from blockbusters to deep cuts.
Listen to Dear Movies I Love You on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
That's a phrase that many executives used to describe Andrew Friedman.
He is always available to hang on the backboard, get a rebound, get a board, put a shot back up.
Welcome to a brand new live edition on this Wednesday evening.
of Dodgers Territory. I am Alana Rizzo. That is Clint Pisces. You are used to us, but we want to take a moment to welcome the newest
member of the Dodgers Territory team. It is Katie Wu. She is not only a contributor to the show. She is a co-host of the program.
The most recent brand new beat reporter for your Los Angeles Dodgers covering the team for the Athletic.
She joins Fabian Ardia. Two beat reporters for the athletic on one team. You know that they are a big deal. Katie, welcome to
to LA. Welcome to the show. What has been your early impressions of covering this team versus the old
team, the St. Louis Cardinals? Well, they certainly have a little bit more money to spend.
That became very apparent when the Dodgers signed Edwin Diaz on my second day of the job.
I was running around the winter meetings, pretending to look busy, pretending to be important.
And I saw from the athletics will salmon that Edwin Diaz signed with the Dodgers.
And it stopped me. And I was like, this is my response.
responsibility right now. This, let me, I'm not used to these kind of high profile signings.
And then, of course, it's been pretty stagnant after, but you know, you never know here.
It can change very quickly. I'm super excited to be with you guys on a consistent basis here at Dodgers Territory.
Obviously, love the Fowell Territory Network, my fan there, everybody, but A.J. Prisinski.
That was a joke.
Catch a strays.
A lot of fun. We'll have lots to talk about.
that's great to have you can't wait for this upcoming season our third season of dodgers territory
katie welcome and there is news climp pacias um if you want to get the big ticket let's talk about
some arbitration i'm excited there's news it's not fun we're trying to make arbitration fun here gang
well i mean it is it is a pretty slow off season let's be honest but there are some news um news
notes in terms of some arbitration and katy you can tell us more about this it appears that the team
has reportedly agreed to a $2.8 million deal with Brewster Gretterol,
Bazooka for the 2026 season, this from your colleague and our friend, Fabian Ardaya.
There are three more arbitration-eligible players, though, to try to agree to deals with
before tomorrow's deadline, Anthony Bonda, of course, reliever Alex Call, and Brock Stewart.
So, Katie, what did you make of the agreement with Brewster and how realistic is it going to be
to get those other three locked in.
Yeah, I think the salary made sense.
He's coming off of injury and we talked to general manager,
Brandon Gomes, Dave Roberts, of course, in the winter meetings,
where Bruce R. Gratterol will be ready to go for spring training.
Brock Stewart might be a little bit more delayed.
I don't expect the Dodgers to not come to an agreement
with any of their three remainders.
Arbitration isn't exactly the most exciting thing in the off season,
but right now it's all we got.
It would be very surprising to me if agreements were not reached for the rest of
those three. Yeah, I mean, the projections are pretty low. I'll put that screen back up there
because, of course, Fabian threw in some of the MLB trade rumors.com projections here. Dodgers got
that kind of money. $1.7 million projected for Anthony Bonda. Alex call 1.5 mil at Brock
stew, 1.4. Beef stew, if you're nasty, I should say. But yeah, very happy to see they already
get bazooka out of the way because, Riz, this is a guy we've talked a whole bunch about last
off season, hoping he would find his way back to being happy and healthy and being that dude
who can throw one-on-one with ease.
This tells you this is a team that is probably ready to welcome this dude back.
And that bullpen that was a bit of an Achilles heel last year is going to get stronger
with a guy who is a World Series champion, who has been there, done that.
And it's been very good at it over the course of his career.
So, yeah, I mean, I remember when he came to spring.
training for the first time, Bazooka, and he was throwing a bullpen, the first bullpen we ever
watched. And I was standing at Camelback Ranch behind the bullpen's kind of like looking through
the holes that they put out there that you can watch. And the movement was unbelievable, right? Like,
he was all over the place in terms of the movement. So imagine trying to face that as a position
player. But now I feel like he has 101, but he has much more of a perspective and a sense of where
it's going. And that's a very dangerous weapon in a Dodgers bullpen that obviously struggled last
year. I mean, we went into spring training last year thinking, my gosh, it's the bullpen of the
century. And we won the World Series, like, thank God, our starting rotation was as good as they were.
It's just so much has happened. But that's, I mean, talk about the vibes, Katie. And I know that you're
going to dive deep into this team getting to spring training, you know, in the next month, really,
next four to five weeks.
But that's good news for a club that signed Edwindeas most recently and then gets
Bazooka back, hopefully, you know, sooner rather than later.
This is a team that is poised to, I know it's difficult, but to do it again, back to back to
back.
Okay, so we have Bazooka and we have beef stew.
I'm trying to stay up to date on the Dodger Knicks.
So those will be easier to remember.
When you look at this bullpen, though, I mean, obviously, this.
the Dodgers felt like they were in a good spot last year.
And this just goes to predict the volatility of a relief pitching.
You go in and you get Edwin Diaz the best closer available on the market.
And obviously, the Dodgers are confident in a bounce back season from Tanner Scott.
I am too.
I know that might, you know, some Dodgers fans might be skeptical based on how the season went last year.
And I get it.
But when you look at the overall sample size body of work from Tanner Scott up until coming to L.A.,
it's very solid.
When you have a player that's coming to a new organization for the first time,
first time free agency signs that big monster deal.
A lot of guys will tell you that it becomes really difficult to adjust because there is so
much pressure.
There's so many eyes on you to go out and perform and be to that big signing and live up to
that hype.
And some guys, it takes a while to adjust.
So for that reason alone, I'm more intrigued to see what Tanner Scott looks like in the
second part or the second year of that deal.
And that's without going into the injury stuff that he dealt with at the second half of last
season.
You get Grotto back.
obviously like you said, Alana, it's one thing to throw 101.
It's another thing to throw 101 and know where it's going.
So that's another weapon for them.
We'll see if, you know, Anthony Banda's back, which you will be.
And we'll see what the Dodgers continue to check in on.
Evan Phillips.
That's a guy that they arbitration case trying to stay healthy coming back,
maybe for the second part of 2026.
I know there may be waiting out his market.
That is a phrase we hear a lot when it comes to Andrew Friedman.
So when you look at what this bullpen could look like over the entire 2020.
season, lots of names to look at right now.
But I really like the three of Diaz, Tanner, Scott, and Bruce Rottel, if they're healthy,
that's pretty lights out to me.
Yeah, that's going to be, hopefully, if everything lines up the way we hope and anticipate
and the way, you know, money says these guys should be good at their jobs, it's going to be
really, really good back into the bullpen.
And, Riz, you already know, the rest of those dudes can really get it done.
And a lot of those rookies, I keep talking about that.
We'll slot into the back end of that bullpen or somewhere in the middle with your Ben Casparius,
Not so much rookies, but younger dudes with your Ben Kasparius, Justin Rebleski's, Kyle Hurt.
I'm going to say Kyle Hurt's name as much as I can so people know that I was right, unless I was wrong and then I won't bring him up anymore.
But Kyle Hurt coming back from Tommy John.
It's going to be a fun look to this bullpen, Alex Fescia, coming back as well.
So it should be good, but we'll find out more about those other three names and whether or not they get a deal or are they going to go to arbitration.
Hopefully they don't have to go to a hearing.
That would suck.
They haven't done that in a while.
How many ever wants to do that? You have to prove how much you're worth and you have to sit in a room with someone telling you that, no, you're actually not worth that much. That's never a fun time.
I'm John Green. You may know me as the author of The Fault and Our Stars. And now, I guess, also as the co-host of The Away End, a brand new world soccer podcast.
I'm Daniel Alarcon, a writer and journalist. And John and I have known each other since we were kids. My first World Cup was Mexico 86. I was nine years old. I watched every game and I fell in love.
On our new podcast, The Away End, we'll share with you the magic.
of international football, all leading up to the
2026 World Cup.
For us, soccer, football,
is a story we've shared for over
30 years since Daniel was the
star player on our high school soccer team.
Very debatable. And I was
their most loyal and sometimes
only fan. I love
this game. I love its history,
its hope, it's heartbreak, and above
all, it's beauty. Together,
we'll find out why, of all the
unimportant things, football, soccer,
is the most important.

Hi, I'm Danielle Robe, host of Bookmarked, the podcast by Reese's Book Club.
And this week, we are talking about a monster.
Or maybe the woman who refused to be one.
I'm sitting down with Maggie Gyllenhaal to unpack her new film, The Bride.
And trust me, this isn't your grandmother's bride of Frankenstein.
It's darker, smarter, sexy.
a full reimagining of what happens when the monster gets a voice of her own.
What I was more interested in was the monstrousness inside of each of us.
You can spend your life running from those things, or you can turn around and shake hands with
them. If I'm honest about that, and I tell my story about monsters really dealing in something
truthful, and I do it in a way that's pop, that's hot, that's hot.
that's like getting on a roller coaster,
will people respond?
Listen to Bookmarked,
the Reese's Book Club podcast on the Iheart radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
All right, guys, there are some rumors going around in rumor, has it.
Well, guys, we're still waiting out the Dodgers,
the next big move of the offseason.
Katie, it looks like they're also waiting out the market.
this feels a lot like off-season's past the last two winters.
Dodgers fans have been really, really blessed, gifted, spoiled with the deep pockets of
Mark Walter and Guggenheim and all this kind of stuff.
But we're waiting on Kyle Tucker, waiting on Cody Bellinger, waiting on something with
Beau Bichette.
The whole baseball world is.
What is the latest that you have heard on any of the big names that are still left in free agency?
Yeah, it's definitely been a slow off-season.
Edmond Diaz signing aside.
And I think you're right, Clint, when you think about the last two off seasons, the historic precedent that they sent, this seems even slower just by comparison to the last two.
So what we're hearing about Kyle Tucker, Boba Shecht, Cody Bellinger, the main three free agents that the daughters have been connected to is more or less the same.
They're hanging around. And that's a phrase that many executives used to describe Andrew Friedman.
He is always available to hang on the backboard, get a rebound, get aboard for the shot back up.
When we look at these three guys, I think what's super important to understand here is as the Dodgers weighed out the market and the rest of the industry sees what happens here, the Dodgers aren't really in the mix.
And this is true based on what we reported last month.
They're not in the mix for that super long-term contract.
You're going to hear us talk a lot about the Dodgers' overall age of their roster.
They're not in a position to offer any three of these guys extensive, extensive five, six, seven-year contracts.
Now, Cody Bellinger, to me, seems like he's going to be a Yankee.
And even if he's not, I'm not sure if the Dodgers are in a position to give him either the years or the money that his market may be demanding.
We're looking at Cody Bellinger.
You're likely to see a five-year deal in a perfect world for him.
I don't see L.A. doing that.
However, if his market falls and maybe you can get a Bellinger for a two, three-year deal, you reconsider it.
But that seems pretty unlikely with the way things are shaking out right now.
Boba Shet also seems unlikely that he'll go back to Toronto.
Toronto's having a hell of an off season.
But again, it goes down to the years.
He is younger.
He turns 28 next in a couple of months.
So you have age on your side there.
But again, if you're looking to sign a six, seven year deal,
Dodgers probably aren't the place for you.
Of those three, I still think Kyle Tucker is the one that makes the most logical sense,
especially if his market does not get the years that he was expecting.
The Dodgers can go out and sign him to a three, four year deal high AAB.
I know they usually don't do opt-outs, but maybe this is a situation where they can work one or two in,
just based on the market.
This is the worst part of the offseason, guys,
that's waiting for things to happen.
And that's kind of where the Dodgers are right now.
They're comfortable hanging around.
They don't necessarily feel pressure to add any more
without being a position to do so if it makes sense for them.
I want to focus on the Bellinger part of this.
And Riz, it feels like we were maybe a little bit more high on a Cody reunion
early in the offseason,
understanding like then we were really, really set on this team needs an outfielder.
We just watched Michael in Fordo try to play baseball for them in left field for the last like five months.
It didn't, you know, six months, whatever, didn't quite work out.
Riz, do you feel the same like maybe, I agree with Katie, I will open with.
He belongs back with the Yankees.
I think it was a really good fit.
But do you have that same feeling, Alana, that maybe you have sour, not so much sour,
but cooled on a belly reunion with L.A.
I mean, I'm just certainly not cold on it.
I wasn't super duper, duper hot on it to begin.
with what I do think is that we need an outfielder.
And I don't know that Cody Bellinger is the one.
I agree he stays in New York, but I think he has a better chance of going to the Mets than he does staying at Yankee Stadium.
I don't think he is going to have an L.A. reunion.
I think there's sometimes you just can't come home.
And I don't know that they need to spend that kind of money if, in fact, he does get a four or five-year deal, which to Katie's point, I don't think that's going to happen.
I don't think the Dodgers are going to do that.
They don't need to.
While I think the outfield is their biggest need, I don't know that it necessarily.
necessarily needs to be Cody. Whether it's a Harrison Bader, whether it's a Stephen Kwan,
whether it's somebody else, a Byron Buxton, if they do it via trade versus via free agency,
I just don't see a Bellinger reunion happening for L.A., certainly not at what the early numbers
seem to be that Boris is putting out there in terms of Bellinger. Belinger, I love the kid.
I mean, I was probably his first major league baseball, you know, big league interview.
He's not a $400 million outfielder.
He's just not.
I mean, if it was after his MVP season for sure, but that is, that is a long way removed.
17.
When was his MVP season?
That was 2019.
It was Roy 17 MVP.
That was a long time ago.
And again, yeah, I mean, he still has a lot left, but not $400 million left.
And the Dodgers don't, I mean, if you're going to spend $400 million, get Kyle Tucker.
You know what I mean?
I don't see that happening either.
I don't see that happening either.
I don't know.
They say things.
Things are heating up on the Kyle Tucker stuff here.
This seems to be the biggest piece that needs to fall before anything happens.
Is it Toronto?
Is it L.A.?
Who else is in the mix?
I think the Cubs not so much.
We're hearing the Dodgers are being amongst the more aggressive people when it comes
to Kyle Tucker.
John Morosi had this to say on the MLB network today.
talking about the Dodgers being in on Tucker on a shorter term deal and all this kind of stuff.
Katie, what are we hearing about Tuck here?
What's going on?
When is this market moving, man?
Yeah, the three most interested teams, and this is all to various degrees of interest, are the Dodgers, the Blue Jays, and the Mets.
This has been reported widely through multiple outlets, including the athletic.
And this goes back to the conversations that we had at the winter meetings.
Again, and I'll reiterate it, a shorter term deal.
is the only way Kyle Tucker is going to come to L.A.
Now, I'm not sure if that same logic applies to Mets or the Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays are having a very Dodgers-esque offseason anyway.
I don't think we can rule anything out.
We certainly saw that with Edmund Diaz.
I mean, the day before the signing happened,
Brandon Gomes was saying that the Dodgers felt they were really good
about their bullpen and didn't feel like they needed to make any additions.
The Dodgers don't need to make any additions in their outfield,
but they certainly are capable of doing.
And that's what makes them dangerous.
So as we weighed out the Kyle Tucker market, and as we see, maybe the demand, the early projections,
maybe we as an industry just missed the mark on our projections overall for many of these free agents.
If we get closer and closer spring training, again, just roughly a month away, and these deals start to fall,
is there any team better suited to offer a short-term high AAV deal than the Los Angeles Dodgers?
I would say no.
And that's why Kyle Tucker seems to garner so much interest here.
We talked about it already on the show.
They wanted outfield help.
They wanted to make some additions there.
They still could do that in a lesser degree via trade.
Harrison Bader's a great suggestion.
Stephen Kwan, Lars Neufar, they've all been kind of connected to the Dodgers.
But if the price point falls in terms of years, expect the Dodgers to be a much bigger play.
And we're going to hear more about them for Kyle Tucker.
Katie, how long can the Dodgers stand to wait them out?
I mean, do you go into spring training with the roster that you have if Kyle Tucker still isn't
signed, which is unlikely, but it has happened.
There have been many guys that have at least recently.
There have been guys that have waited until, you know, spring training has started.
How long is the wait realistically before you figure this outfield situation?
So nobody wants to do that, right?
No player and no team wants to go into spring training and not having some sort of resolution
with the big marquee free agents.
But unfortunately, it's become more and more common as spring training picks up.
Now for the Dodgers, they're okay waiting.
There are some questions about what Tommy Edmund looks like coming back health-wise.
They're okay kind of just stalling out the market.
It really comes down to what Kyle Tucker wants.
So that's when we say the Dodgers are hanging around or Andrew Friedman is ready for the rebound.
This is what we mean.
It's just it's up to really to the player on when he's ready to make a decision and then teams respond from there.
It doesn't make for compelling off-season baseball.
I know that.
that, but that's just the reality of the situation.
And we mentioned, um, of the three teams, uh, in on Tucker, it, the Blue J seems to be getting a
little hotter on, on Tucker as well.
John Heyman had this today on the, uh, the Bleacher report, uh, mentioning it's going to be
Blue Jays, Mets or Dodgers.
And when I hear Blue J's spending more money on a player that is not Boba
that that tells me a little bit more that there's a chance that they are not going to resign
Bobauchette and I am somebody who is madly in love with the idea of Boba
as a Los Angeles Dodger.
Let's identify that first part, or let's dive into that first part.
Is it strained between the Blue Jays and Bo?
What's kind of going on with that market?
Because they seem to suddenly not have money for him,
but maybe some for a Kyle Tucker move.
Yeah, you know, it's interesting because every Blue J reporter will say
they're still in it and there's a way they can get both.
And I'm more inclined to believe the people that are covering the organization every day.
really your beat writers there are the most invaluable resource.
So I don't want to say they've closed the door on Boba Chet.
I think Boba Chet is waiting out the market.
Now here's what we know.
He could be trying to get paid as a shortstop.
While he is open to playing second base like he did in the in the World Series,
if he wants to get paid as a shortstop, there is not very many short stops available right now.
So that could be driving up his demand.
And other teams might want to pay him as a second baseman,
which would bring a little bit less of a demand.
So there's a lot of negotiations back and forth.
players usually only get one, two if they're lucky, real chances in free agency to max out their worth.
So I don't blame Boba Shet for saying, hey, I'm going to be a shortstop for some teams.
I would like to get paid as one. Or, you know, maybe they go to a different one and he's a second basement and he takes a lesser deal.
But the position mark up here, I think, is something that should be talked about because it is, in my opinion and based on people I've talked to playing into a little bit here.
And unfortunately, for Boba Shet, he kind of has to wait out the markets of Kyle Tucker because the same teams,
that are interested in him are also interested in Tucker.
So not doesn't make anything easy for anyone,
especially the Dodgers who are clearly linked to both.
But I do wonder if Boba Shett makes sense here.
And I'm willing to argue both ways.
Obviously he's a talented player.
Any team would be lucky to have him and he's a difference maker.
But let's say Tommy Edmund coming back from ankle surgery doesn't come back 100%
healthy.
He has a couple of weeks where he's not available starts the year on the injured list.
We already know he's coming to spring delayed.
So let's project.
And I'm a Tommy Edmund Truther.
Covered him for many years in St. Louis.
Love the guy. I think he's a game-changing player.
If he's not ready, but he's only going to be on the IL to start the season hypothetically
for two to three weeks, would it make more sense to just put two in Hesion Kim and give him
an actual chance to play some consistent second base and see what he can do so you know what
you have with consistent playing time?
It might not be the most flashy option.
But the doctors are set up where they don't necessarily need to make an upgrade at second base.
Now, on the flip side, you could say, well, he's Boba Bichette, so make room for him.
Yeah, I hear you.
And the argument there is you have your everyday second basement.
You have someone to back Mookie Betts a shortstop.
And if you're really looking down the road and you don't bring back Max Muncie,
Bouchet can play 13.
So I do see that argument.
Yeah, I love it.
I love the fact that, I mean, although he probably wants to get paid as a shortstop,
he does fit into the mold of the V for the Dodgers and that's that versatility, right?
I mean, they're big on that.
They're big on guys bringing.
six, seven gloves to the yard.
It's interesting because I tell you what,
you get Bo Bichette and you get Edwin Diaz.
I mean, the Dodgers win the offseason.
I don't know if I'd feel the same way
if it was an Edwin Diaz, Kyle Tucker situation.
Do you think, Katie, in your estimation,
the Dodgers, it would be a bigger offseason
if they got Tucker and Diaz or if they got Bo Bichette and Dias?
That's such a good question.
I'm leaning Bichet because it's not a name
that we really linked to early in the off season
where the Dodgers were kind of honestly the favorite
in the very early projections to land Kyle Tucker.
But Bichette, he's younger.
Well, they're about the same age,
but in terms of what he can do again with that versatility,
he seems like the more Dodgers player
because they love their guys that can play around the diamond,
like you said, Alana.
I think that'd be more of the excitement factor
because it was less known.
I mean, signing Edwin Diaz would have been a big deal no matter what.
But I think part of what made it so cool for fans
was because it essentially came out of nowhere.
I mean, this deal came together in 72 hours.
They were in for Devin Williams.
He went to the Mets and all of a sudden that the Dodgers realized they had to change their offseason strategy and said, you know, instead of looking for these one to two year deals, if it's going to take three years to sign a high profile reliever, but you might as well go all out and get one.
And so they were able to get that Edwin Dia's deal so quickly.
That to me would be more exciting for fans, again, for Boba Chet because it didn't seem likely at all where Kyle Tucker kind of seemed like the logical signing.
Either way, though, if they pick up one more of either player, it's a great offseason.
It's fantastic.
If they don't, it's a gamble.
That's a great way of putting it a gamble.
And I wanted to dive into something you had said a little bit ago about, yeah, the team really doesn't need to make moves.
You got Alex Call and the rookie Ryan Ward who can play some left field.
You know, at some point, Kika Hernandez will be back with this club.
It is the worst kept secret, I think, in all of baseball.
Miggy Roe could play the infield, so Tommy Edmund can play the outfield.
Is it the sexiest offseason to just get Edwin Diaz?
I don't think so.
I think they do need a little bit more.
They absolutely need to add one more bat because they were terrible.
They were terribly terrible at hitting baseball and playing second base.
We eventually found the words.
I got there.
Second baseman for the Dodgers last year hit poorly.
It's the hard part of me putting myself on the screen.
while trying to do this. But anyways, they get a combined 239 as second basement. That's the thing
where I've really warmed up and heated up and got very turned on to the idea of Bo Bichette because
I think they need an infielder and they have a lot of outfield depth at the minor league level
eventually coming for this team. But I'm going to play with the idea here. We played with
the last night on my All Dodgers show. How about why not both? Hashtag why not both? Go out there,
get both of these dudes at a high Aav deal short term. You're going to give them.
those opt-outs. Maybe they even have like an opt-out after two years because you know some, I think
there's at least a little bit of that CBA, upcoming CBA, looming in kind of where contract negotiations
feel like they're going this off-season. Give them an opt-out after a couple of years, win a
World Series or two, and then you guys can go get some money when you're 30 and 31 or whatever it works
out. So hashtag, why not both? Ruined baseball even more by signing Edwin Diaz, Boba-Bichette, Kyle Tucker,
board thank me later. That's all I got. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
Is that a question? No, no, no. That was just more of a monologue, I guess, and I threw you guys on
the screen to endure it with me. That was it. I want them all. I decided I'm going to be a,
I don't know if it's a petulant Dodger fan. I'm greedy. I want it all. They're trying to win
back to back to back. This is a team that makes a lot of money. And these guys are out here dangling.
You could find the right deal.
that's Mark, Mark Walter, listen to me.
Spend the money.
All right.
I'm going to ask you this, Katie, before we move on.
Clint and I had this discussion on Monday on the show,
and I don't know how you feel about this,
but I feel that your primary opening day lineup
and your everyday lineup needs to be a guy
that you're running out there as a starter every single day.
I don't want an opening day roster to have a platoon player in my starting lineup.
What is your opinion on that?
I think it would depend on the player.
And a lot of this, again, not to repeat a point, but depends on Tommy Edmund's health.
We know he's going to be delayed to start spring.
We don't know to what degree.
If Tommy Edmund's healthy, you can have that set nine every day and maybe the position changes just based on matchup, righty, lefty.
That's pretty standard practice now at this day and age.
But starting with the platoon is hard because guys, especially to start the season, like to get in a rhythm.
And it's really hard to do that in March and April if you're not getting consistent at bad.
So to me, it just depends on who is doing the actual platoon.
A guy like Mickey Rowe can handle it.
This is an established veteran that can play around the infield if needed.
I mean, he hopped into game six and essentially saved the World Series,
despite not starting for like the entire month.
So obviously he's capable of doing that.
I don't know about Kim if that's going to be the right way to set him up for success,
but I can understand the Dodgers wanting to try that if Tommy isn't healthy to start the year.
Best case scenario all around obviously goes without saying a healthy Tommy Edmund does wonders
for this club.
So we'll see.
But I'm kind of with you, Alana.
Starting the year with the platoon, just based on timing and field,
doesn't always give guys the best start.
It has to be a player conditioned who knows how to handle it.
So, like, really, Miggie Row is the only guy I see doing that to start.
Yeah, I agree with you.
I mean, that's the thing about this team.
It's like there's so many guys that can play so many different positions.
But I do like those platoon guys being bench guys, you know,
and giving guys a starting staff a blow.
All right.
We're going to talk about a pup, Katie.
this every show. It's called Netflix. And for most of you, you guys know I have a foundation called
Guidry's Guardian Foundation. So let's talk about a pup that needs a home.
I'm John Green. You may know me as the author of The Fault and Our Stars. And now, I guess,
also is the co-host of The Away End, a brand new world soccer podcast. I'm Daniel Alarcon,
a writer and journalist. And John and I have known each other since we were kids.
My first World Cup was Mexico 86. I was nine years old. I watched every year.
game and I fell in love.
On our new podcast, The Away End, we'll share with you the magic of international football,
all leading up to the 2026 World Cup.
For us, soccer, football, is a story we've shared for over 30 years since Daniel was the
star player on our high school soccer team.
Very debatable.
And I was their most loyal and sometimes only fan.
I love this game.
I love its history, it's hope, it's heartbreak, and above all, it's beauty.
Together, we'll find out why a lot.
of all the unimportant things, football, soccer, is the most important.
Listen to the away end with Daniel Alricone and John Green on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts,
or wherever you get your podcasts.
And trust me, this isn't your grandma.
Bride of Frankenstein. It's darker, smarter, sexier, a full reimagining of what happens when
the monster gets a voice of her own. What I was more interested in was the monstrousness inside of
each of us. You can spend your life running from those things, or you can turn around and
shake hands with them. If I'm honest about that, and I tell my story about monsters really
dealing in something truthful. And I do it in a way that's pop, that's hot, that's like getting
on a roller coaster, will people respond? Listen to Bookmarked, the Reese's Book Club podcast on the Iheart
radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. All right, we've introduced you to her
before, but we're going to do it again. We're going to continue to do this until Havana
finds the right home. She is so, so sweet. She's about 18 months.
She is a boxer pity mix.
When she came into the Yidreys Guardian Foundation,
she was emaciated, starving.
In fact, she was so desperate,
she followed our vice president's husband
into their house.
My best friend Karina's husband was walking their dog
and Havana found him and walked into their house
asking for help.
And she's so great now.
She's healthy, she's happy, she's vaccinated,
she's spayed, she's leech trained,
she's potty trained, all the things.
She's being fostered in Lahabra.
California. So if you're interested in adopting Havana, please reach out. She'd be great with a family
that has another dog that has the same energy, or she'd be great as a solo dog home with people
that are around all the time. She gets a little bit of separation anxiety. So if you work from home,
she is your girl. All right, Clint, do you have an All-Dodgers show again?
We're not going to do one tonight because here we are live. What else am I going to talk about
tonight but i uh i am telling people now saturdays are back people who know the show know that we do
saturday voicemails almost anything goes within reason so give us a call find the the number on my
all dodgers youtube page give me a subscribe there give us a subscribe here we'd appreciate it uh that's the
best way of to let katy know that you appreciate her joining the show is by getting us to 15 000
subscribers right now or else but uh yeah that's saturday 11 a m uh before
we do sign off, guys. We have a number of chats, obviously. Some super chats, a lot of love
for Katie joining the show, other random things. First off, if you spend this much money,
you're going to get on the screen right away. The Wrightfield Pavilion, $100 super chat. What a legend.
Says, I love me some Katie Woof. The Dodger signed any big free agent. They paid out a
Snell type of signing bonus, 50 plus million. Does that amount get taxed as much as the actual
salary? I should have given more of a line break there in my reading of that. But asking
a legitimate question.
That is a legitimate question.
So one, first of all, great sentence.
Way to start the question.
It's so much, I don't have the answer off the top of my head.
Riddle me this, guys.
I didn't really have to worry about luxury tax in St. Louis.
So that is the answer to.
I'll get on it.
I will start studying luxury tax, bonus pool money,
all that stuff that really I could just kind of set aside out of my mind in St. Louis.
But this is again what we talked about, the differences in market.
Crazy.
Just like when I'm from California, but I still took a step back when I got off a plane at LAX and saw the gas prices.
I almost fell to my knees.
Oh, yeah.
Sorry about that.
We're going to be all right, guys.
And here we got it early running for the great nickname for you.
We got Katie Holly Woo.
Put it on the sign.
Put it on the sign.
Yeah, let's book it.
We got some fans in the chat as well here.
$199 from Swell and Sausage.
She says, happy new year.
All I could say is wow and wow with a lot of hearts and love and all that kind of stuff.
And another super fan here.
We got Scotty Braun.
I don't know who this guy is, but it says, wow, power trio.
So how for that?
So hype.
Appreciate you.
Hang out with this boss, man.
Cole by Cole, he agrees with me.
For two bucks, he says to settle.
Go get them both.
Get Bo, get Tucker.
Ruin baseball.
The Enigma, by the way.
This is one of the things.
You know, this could be a topic for another show or definitely a topic if the Dodgers do eventually.
land Kyle Tucker, but people I think don't respect how great of a hit or how consistent of a
hitter Kyle Tucker is. And if we're talking about a Dodgers team needing good bat to ball dude,
there are a few better than Kyle Tucker. Jose wants to know what that lineup is like if they do add
Bo and Tucker. Good. Alana. Do you really, really good? I don't even have to put in the order.
Whatever the order is is good.
say robbers could literally throw them out
throw out the names,
brand them out of a half.
A hundred game winner.
That would be in a ridiculous lineup.
It's already very, very good lineup.
Shocking, breaking news.
We got Francisco or Fernando, if you're nasty,
in the chat.
Hate to be a negative Nancy,
but it's a bit odd.
That less than 24 hours ago,
Alana, you and I were talking about
they were lurking on Tucker
and now they're being aggressive.
He is skeptical.
Yeah, this is that time of the year
and Katie, you know, cover your ears.
This is that time of year
where agents feed media people.
things because they're trying to get the market moving a little bit more.
But I'm all for it.
I'm all for it because we need some news.
We need some things happening.
Justin also points out that you're definitely going to be that Hollywood lifestyle kind of
girl.
What do you think about that?
Katie, care to comment?
I would love to.
My bank accounts is otherwise at the moment.
So give me some time.
Give me some time to readjust to re-strategize.
And hopefully in a perfect world, the Guarger's team keeps me.
busy and I won't have time to be Hollywood.
AJ Prasinski has said that he doesn't know the Hollywood version of me, only the Midwest
version.
So for AJ's sake, maybe I'll have to set that.
Maybe I'll be even more annoying going into the season.
We'll find out.
Well, Alana, I would say if people want to help Katie get A.J.
Prisinski rich, go check out the Dodgers Territory Shop.
Dot com.
Buy some stuff.
Buy a hoodie, buy a sweater, buy some swag.
By the entire inventory just to get AJ Pursinsky rich.
We'll restock.
We got. Final thoughts out of you, Riz?
No, Katie, welcome. So psyched. I mean, the information that you're going to provide is so invaluable.
I'm thrilled that you're a part of the show. I am thrilled to have you.
I mean, the access that you're going to have and obviously the insight, just being in the clubhouse, being in the dugout is invaluable.
And I'm so stoked. That was very California. So stoked.
Stoct.
Hell of you.
I'm stoked to have you.
So welcome, my friend.
Great to finally be a colleague on more of a day to day.
No, you guys, I'm super excited.
And Alana, you're going to hate this.
But as someone who Dodgers fans cover years,
watched a lot of Giants games growing up,
I obviously watched a lot of NL West.
And I always thought watching you on TV,
I was like, Alana seems so cool.
I want to know her and can't confirm you are so cool.
So to be able to be on the same show as you,
Clint, you too.
I'm super excited, guys.
And I love the Fowl Territory Network,
a lot of good stuff here.
And the best news is, is if you ever watch Cardinal territory, you know I have some flaws.
I'm clearly like not the best producer.
So ideally, I've learned.
I'm not going to say that I have for sure, but in a perfect world I've learned.
So now viewers here get the better version of me.
Again, we'll say that's true.
But I'm just really excited to be a part of it.
And we're going to have a lot of fun things to talk about when spring training starts
sooner than we think.
Yes, indeed.
Katie and Clint will be doing the show live, a new show on Monday, the 12th.
I will be flying back from Aruba, provided I can get back if there's no airstrike because of Venezuela and all the stuff that's going on.
Maruba and Venezuela are 50 miles apart, so we'll see.
If I die, it's been great.
But if not, I'll be back on Thursday.
Katie, Clint, thanks so much, you guys.
And for all of you guys listening, we appreciate you.
We're back.
We're back on Monday.
At least those two are.
We'll see you later.
Bye.
I'm Daniel Alarcon, and this is my friend.
This is much more famous than I am.
I wouldn't go that far.
But I'm John Green, co-host of the podcast The Away End with my old friend Daniel.

Hi, I'm Danielle Robe, host of Bookmarked, the podcast by Reese's Book Club.
And this week on Bookmarked, we're basically hosting the Ultimate Girls' Night.
Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Garner, Judy Greer, Rita Wilson, and Gauri Rice, and author Laura Dave.
These are the women behind season two of the Apple TV series The Last Thing He Told Me.
We're talking about turning a book into a hit show and what it really takes to bring a story to life.
The most important metric for me is do I want to share this book with somebody?
That's what creates community and that's the main thesis of our book club.
and why we started it was just to connect people together.

Movies can make you feel, make you dream.
Sometimes they even make you appreciate architecture.
Is there anybody who's been hotter in a doorway than Elizabeth Taylor?
That's the kind of analysis you'll find every week on Dear Movies I Love You,
the new podcast from the Exactly Right Network.
Every Tuesday, we break down the films we're crushing on, from blockbusters to deep cuts.
