Dodgers Territory - Dodgers Back in the Win Column! Shohei Ohtani Dominates!

Episode Date: May 14, 2026

Clint Pasillas and guest co-host, ESPN LA's Marcas Grant, recap game 3 of the 4 game series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants.  The Dodgers entered the game looking to end ...a 4 game losing streak with Shohei Ohtani on the mound and the unicorn delivered. While he should be the story of the game, the real story was the LA offense finally putting some runs on the board. Was Santiago Espinal and Mookie Betts' back-to-back homers what the Dodgers needed for the rest of the offense to wake up? The hosts discuss! Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves. Their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear.
Starting point is 00:00:55 Listen to Sports Slice on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slic Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano. It's our favorite time of the year on our podcast point game, the playoffs. We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season. And I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments.
Starting point is 00:01:17 If we didn't talk ever again, I was part of it. You just understood. That's how personal it got. Wow. Then after that game seven, Marquis keep coming to him. He's like, you know, I love you, dog. You know, it's all love. This was just playoffs.
Starting point is 00:01:28 This was just basketball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. You know, I was joking this afternoon in one of our text chains that, you know, this lineup either they're going to get completely shut out or they're going to chase Robbie Ray by the fourth inning. What is going on, party people? I'm in the host chair today, so I call you party people for some reason. But that is not Alana Rizzo. That is not Clint Paceas over there. That is Marcus.
Starting point is 00:02:03 And clearly, Marcus, you guys know him from ESPNLA. He is one of the fine faces who graces your YouTube screens every morning with a blue review. Blue review, blue review. Blue review. Marcus, we had the juice tonight. We were the heroes this team. Dodgers Nation needed to win a baseball game. This is tasty.
Starting point is 00:02:26 They haven't done one of these in four tries heading into this. Man, quick initial thoughts to a Dodger dub. Well, first, our short region. nightmare is over. The four-game losing streak has been, has come to an end. Look, it was a good win. It was obviously a, at this point, any win was going to be a good win, but I thought the way it went down tonight was especially good.
Starting point is 00:02:49 They scored four runs. I know it doesn't seem like a lot, but the way things are going, it felt like a ton. I thought from top to bottom, I just saw quality at bats pretty much all through. And then on top of it, Shohei did the Showhay thing, right? Where he was seven scoreless innings, four hits, eight strikeouts. it was good to get off the Schneide, but more importantly, it felt like the most complete ballgame they've played in a while.
Starting point is 00:03:13 Yeah, needed one of these. This is going to be one of those games where they just, they had a lot on their shoulders in that clubhouse. And, you know, when you got Max Munty and, you know, post game talking about, you know, we've won back-to-back World Series, like, we're good. We're a veteran team. We know what we're doing. That's when they are pretty close to cracking, if we're being somewhat honest.
Starting point is 00:03:34 Before we dive into it all, I want to remind you guys, help us. get to 20,000 subscribers here on Dodgers territory. Of course, no Alana tonight. She is on assignment. No Katie tonight. She is covering the team because that is her real job. But if they come back and we're at 20,000 subscribers, how cool would that be? We would need a lot of people to hit that button. Hit the thumbs up, all the other things. Help us out. Subscribe to the podcast platform version of this. And of course, go subscribe to ESPN LA. You can find Marcus Grant, along with my buddy, Greg Bergman, every morning, very early in the morning. All right, we would be dumb to not talk about offense.
Starting point is 00:04:14 There's some good to the offense. Mostly there's some bad to the offense because I do like to nitpick, but they did win a baseball game. And you and I were talking before going live here. We were looking for the offense to not struggle, and we see the lineup that Dave Roberts put together. No Shohei Otani in the leadoff spot, no Max Muncie in the lineup. Wild this lineup.
Starting point is 00:04:35 of the season from Dave. And of course it worked. Yeah, I was joking this afternoon in one of our text chains that, you know, this lineup either they're going to get completely shut out or they're going to chase Robbie Ray by the fourth inning, which was almost right. They knocked him out in the fifth inning. You know, I don't know. I don't know if it's just because it was, you know, just the don't give an F sort of lineup.
Starting point is 00:04:58 If everybody just said, you know, screw it, let's just go out there and have some fun. but I mean when you see Santiago Espinole basically care I won't say carrying the team but getting things going with the home run right his first home run is a Dodger he gets things going mookie follows with a home run Miguel Rojas gets his first hit since like St. Patrick's day it felt like you know like everybody sort of contributing Kyle Tucker who very quietly has turned things around since the start of this season teo getting involved it was just nice to see everybody up and down the lineup really having a solid approach really lot locking in. Yeah, I mean, if we're going to nitpick this thing, you'd like to have seen them get more than the four runs. You'd like to see them score after the fourth inning. But just with the way things had been going, this offense had just been constipated. So it was nice to kind of see some things moving again. Yeah, yeah, definitely. They took their X-lax this morning for sure. Yeah, that was one of the things we're talking also a little bit about like if we are going to nitpick, they did only score in two innings. I would like to see them maybe tack on one or more runs. you know, later on in the game. But a win is a win. They hadn't done that in a while. I'm not going to be mad at them for not giving me more.
Starting point is 00:06:11 It's like, hey, you just fed me a free dinner. Where's my dessert? No, I'm not going to be. We're not going to be that guy. Again, we talk about the lineup, a weird one. And you mentioned Santiago Espinal. Espy was the guy who said, boys, let's get, and I put it in the topic bar below. Like, let's go, boys.
Starting point is 00:06:26 He hits a homer. First homer in like two calendar seasons. And then him and Mookiee go back to back. Marcus Lynn Betts hits his first homer since coming off of missing 32 games with the oblique issue. Looks like maybe, and he's also played, he was supposed to have the night off. The initial plan was played to take a day off, and he told Doc, I'm good, bro. Like, let's play some ball here. Didn't expect Mookie to play, you know, complete games, go all nine in each of the first three games back after missing a month
Starting point is 00:06:59 and only having two minor league rehab starts. But, you know, I was joking. Mookie is going to be the savior for this team. It was Espinall to a degree tonight. But Mookie hit in a Homer, that's another thing too. Like you're missing one of your spark plugs at the top of the lineup. Get him back and have him producing, like I said before, like having that weight come off your shoulders.
Starting point is 00:07:23 It can get tense in those clubhouses, man. Yeah, absolutely can. And to your point, you know, I think, Everybody's saying the right things publicly, you know, Max Muncie saying, you know, we feel like we're close. We like our approach. Even Kyle Tucker saying, hey, look, you know, we know how good we are. This is baseball. You're going to go through stretches like that, you know, at least outwardly they were all saying the right things.
Starting point is 00:07:44 But I'm sure privately, if they were going to be honest with you, there's a little bit of, you know, I won't say panic, but certainly concern, right? This team is really, really good. And to not be able to score runs, especially when they had opportunities. Now, last night, they didn't really get much in the way. of opportunity. Monday night, though, they had 10 hits. They had guys all over the base paths. They just couldn't find a way to drive those guys in. And so, you know, I think it was good to see them sort of take advantage of some of those opportunities to continue to put pressure on Robbie Ray, on the Giants defense, forced them to make some decisions tonight. So hopefully this is
Starting point is 00:08:19 the beginning of something. I know we've seen this before, right? They put up 12 runs about a week ago. We thought, okay, well, maybe this is the beginning of something. It didn't quite turn into that. though, tonight turns into something tomorrow night and then going forward, especially with the angels coming up. It feels like that's an opportunity, really, for this team to start to get right. Yeah, and also, we saw this team get swept by the angels last year. I would like to see them do a little bit of damage against those lowly halos. Yeah, a lot. Let's look up and down the box core here. If you guys are watching and not listening here, a couple of hits for Kyle Tucker and there, a couple of hits for Tay Oscar Hernandez, which he's also quietly, he's
Starting point is 00:08:59 up a little bit had a couple of knocks when he was down in the eight hole a few days ago. Rojas, Miggi Roe, you mentioned him. He is somebody who has been just absolutely starving for a hit. Looks like the swing got a little long at times for Miguel Rojas. But, you know, one of those hits, he found the right part of the infield. But it doesn't matter. It's a line drive. That's a knock. And that's another one of those things. Again, this is about the good vibes, the momentum, I'm just getting something. You got to win the first one before you start a winning streak, Marcus. Yeah, you do.
Starting point is 00:09:33 And I think to your point, too, like, you know, Mickey, Nikki's hit wasn't, you know, it's not necessarily going to hang at the Louvre, right? But I also sort of look at this team, and maybe tonight was the beginning of some of their batted ball luck changing. I mean, how many times have we seen over the last week, two weeks, guys hitting the ball hard and nothing to show for, right? It looked like Max Munty was going to come up with a big hit against the Braves, and it was a great catch at the wall that took it away from him.
Starting point is 00:10:00 Last night, Will Smith has the bases loaded and drives one to right field. Looks like maybe this is going to be the start of something. And Jung Hui makes a nice catch on the warning track. So now maybe the luck starting to go back the other way where they aren't necessarily hitting with high exit velocities, but they're just finding grass. And that's sort of the thing in the end, you know, especially when you've been struggling as a ball club,
Starting point is 00:10:23 you don't really care how it happens. You just kind of want it to happen. and hopefully it snowballs from there. So again, we can sit here and pick this thing apart. But I think the overall thing is nine hits, four runs. There was a little bit of slug in there with the two home runs because that's something that's been missing from this ball club for a while too. So there are a lot of things, I think, to build on from what happened.
Starting point is 00:10:45 I think one of the stats Joe Davis mentioned, and I should have done better research in double checking it. But when they hit two or more homers, they have only lost one game. game this year. It's like, now 13 and 1, I think. It's an easy recipe. You know, my buddy, Doug McCain, he always likes to say, if you want the dub, you got a slug. There's proof in the pudding when it comes to that. We've talked around the Kyle Tucker hot streak, hitting, I think, 315 now in the month of May. I'm doing all of May. Some people want to cherry pick and knock knock out the first game where he went 0 for 2. But Kyle Tucker, suddenly, this was also from Jack
Starting point is 00:11:27 Harris. I think he had one more at bat, but in his last 19 games since moving out of that two hole, maybe some of that pressure there, he's been hitting OPS over 900, batting average, over 300 is getting the doubles there. Eventually the homers fall or the homers, you know, I guess don't fall. They go out of the ballpark more so. And he's getting on base, walks, striking out less. Are the haters going to be done hating for a while? Because I know you've seen the comments, people chirping a little bit about Tucker, how is this guy getting $60 million to be as bad as he is? Oh, he's a Houston Astros plant, all this kind of stuff.
Starting point is 00:12:06 Maybe it was just a cold start for Tucker. I mean, I think really that's what it is. And I think if those folks were being rational, they would sort of agree that that's what it was. On the internet? I know, right? That's a wild thought. And I also said this, you know, look, I'm not going to say I was above, you know,
Starting point is 00:12:23 making jokes or being frustrated about it. I mean, I joked for a while when he was really struggling that the Cubs won the, you know, air quotes trade, right? They give us Kyle Tucker. They get Michael Conforto and like Conforto is actually hitting and Tucker was struggling. But I think the biggest thing, and you sort of touched on it, is the plate discipline has gotten better from what we saw early in the season. And I don't know if he was really just pressing and was trying to make a good impression
Starting point is 00:12:50 with his new ball club. But I think it was alarming to see the number of strikeouts early in the season, the number of swings and misses. That's just not what we were expecting out of Kyle Tucker. But I think over the last week or two, we've seen the whiff rate come down a little bit. We've seen the walk rate go up. And it's led to him getting better pitches to hit. Now that he's looking like the guy that, you know, is patient at the plate is going to be disciplined. He's going to get more pitches to hit.
Starting point is 00:13:16 And for the last few days, he's not missing. And so, you know, you start to mix that in, right? If Mookie is going to be back and hitting, we'll see what happens with Shohei after he gets a little bit of rest. Months he's been hitting, Pahez is starting to pick it up again. So very slowly, what was a very long lineup is looking long and scary again if all these guys start to play well. Yeah, hey, it wasn't all good for the Dodgers. Some of it was elite. We haven't talked about Shoah on the mound yet.
Starting point is 00:13:41 We're going to do that. But first, Alana has got to tell you about our friends at FanDuel. So we'll be right back. Starting point is 00:15:19 Dodgers are winners. Marcus Grant filling in for Alana tonight, who is on assignment. And again, we are one and O in the Clint Paseas Marcus Grant era of Dodgers Territory Post Games. Really, really insanely good game from Shohei Otani again tonight. He ends up going seven scoreless, strikes out eight, 105 pitches, which I think they said was a season high. You run out of superlatives when you're talking about Shohei Otani, he's really good at both sides of the baseball. But I don't know, man. Like, he is just, at one point they had on the broadcast, like they were talking about running out of spaces to put all of his pitches. And they're all like elite. Just, just spit some
Starting point is 00:16:05 words about show hey. Um, I mean, it's, I want to say that I'm, I'm no longer surprised when he does stuff, but it's just amazing to watch him on a daily basis. And it's, it's sort of wild, right? I mean, to think that he spent the first, what, seven years of his career playing just like about an hour south. But it was like he didn't really get to Major League Baseball until a couple years ago when he signed with the Dodgers. It's been amazing to watch him pitch this year. I know that, you know, as much as we have been amazed of him as a hitter, you know, I know that when he's been asked about it, he says pitching is really where his heart is. It really what he wants to do. He goes seven innings of shutout ball clint.
Starting point is 00:16:45 and he lowers his ERA just barely 0.15. I mean, that's the problem when you have a sub 1 ERA. It's hard to actually get it to go down a whole lot more, but he's been phenomenal. The eight strikeouts, just the two walks. And maybe the best part of it, he actually got run support. They have him four whole runs to work with,
Starting point is 00:17:05 which is sort of unheard of, right? In this economy? In this economy, right? I mean, I think I don't know that he's got, I think what I saw, the Dodgers hadn't scored more than, two runs while he was actually still in the game. So for them to get him four whole runs, I mean, that felt like a truckload for him tonight.
Starting point is 00:17:25 Yeah, I, you know, at some point you watch him, obviously Yamamoto's been a little bit more on the struggle bus of late. You have to have a conversation about him as well as he kind of overworked, you know, coming off of WBC, coming off of, of course, the World Series run. But this has got to be a dude where he's like, hey, let's save a couple of these from my next start because I know you're not going to give me that many. You know, four runs goes a long way when you got Shohei, you got that elite stuff in there. He was an NL pitcher of the month. He entered this year talking about the the Cy Young kind of aspirations. You know, I fear voters are going to be
Starting point is 00:18:06 dumb because of at Shoah Otani. He does everything or whatever. Like, I don't know. If you had a vote, And I mean, either way, you're not going to be able to take off your Dodger cap when it comes to this, a Dodger bias. But like, if you're voting just on merit looking at everybody else in the National League, like, how can you not at this point? I mean, he's a Cy Young winner in my heart, even with a three and two record. But like, how can you not love what this guy is doing already a four-time MVP winner? And this is the first time I think we're really seeing Shohei Cook on the mound. Yeah. Yeah, you know, my concern with him chasing the Cy Young coming into the season was like, okay, is he going to have enough length in each start to really justify that?
Starting point is 00:18:51 Because basically we saw him sort of ramping up last year in trying to get back into full strength as a pitcher. And so because of that, you know, he wasn't necessarily giving him a ton of length in ball games, but this year we're starting to see it. He gives you the seven innings tonight. He's consistently getting you into the sixth, maybe even into the seventh most nights. So as long as he continues to pitch this well, if he's not giving up runs, I don't, I don't really care who you are, right? If you have a sub one ERA, how are you not the Cy Young Award winner? I know, Paul Skeens is amazing. You know, if O'Neill Cruz wasn't a circus out there in the season opener, you know, we're talking about schemes probably somewhere around one and a half or something like that at this point, too.
Starting point is 00:19:33 but if you're below one, and I don't know how long this is going to last, I just don't know how you don't vote him. There's also part of me that thinks maybe you vote, maybe the voters lean towards Shohei just for the novelty of saying, hey, man, we're going to vote for a guy who's a home run champion,
Starting point is 00:19:51 who's the only member of the 50-50 club. And oh, by the way, he's also the best pitcher in Major League Baseball. Like, I think there's something to be said for like, hey, man, I'm going to vote for this guy just for the novelty of the whole. I think the voter body is young enough and mature enough now. There would probably be like a generation ago.
Starting point is 00:20:12 A bunch of old heads are going to be like, no, there is only Babe Ruth and, you know, whatever. Like, yeah, yeah. Check the type of people that, you know, Babe Ruth played with. Like, it's a different brand of human that is out there now. But we're talking about elite athletes. Integration for God's sake. You know, it's like, my God, he's very good.
Starting point is 00:20:32 He's doing it against. the very best, and he's making them look outright foolish. I don't know if this is a nitpick, but it's worth the conversation. This is the fourth time, and his seven starts, that he was not hitting. Is this something where do you anticipate that continuing over the course of the season, or is this more of maybe Dave in the organization's way of protecting him early in the season, and then we get the full Showhay experience, probably second. half and end of the post season. Yeah, I think as we get deeper into the season,
Starting point is 00:21:07 we're going to see Shohei hitting on the days he pitches. And maybe not every time, right? I think they do want to sort of manage the workload a little bit. I think part of why he didn't hit today was just, you know, being in that slump that he's in. And I think they wanted to just get him some rest. I know Dave Roberts had said before yesterday's game, even before he had the two hits in the home run,
Starting point is 00:21:26 that they were probably going to give him the day off from hitting today. And afterwards, Robert said, look, I said this beforehand. I don't want to go back on that just because he had a couple of hits. So I'm just going to stick to my word. I think that's what it had to do with today. I think early on they just want to sort of manage it and not overwork him because, you know, they're going to need him being a two-way player when they get to September and October. That's why they brought him in here.
Starting point is 00:21:51 That's why they're paying him the money that they are, or at least they will be, you know, 10 years down the road or whatever it is. So, yeah, I think once we get to later in the summer, you will see him hitting and pitching. on the same day more consistently. Agree or disagree. Does his ability to dominate on the mound sometimes get overlooked? I think so. And I think because maybe we haven't really seen it in a while, you know, from the time
Starting point is 00:22:22 he got here, at first year he didn't pitch at all. And he decided to do 50-50 as a side quest, you know, because he's apparently just that good at baseball. last year we started to see him ramp up a little bit. And, you know, that game he had against the Brewers, just a game for the ages, right? Where was he strikes out 10? He hits multiple home runs.
Starting point is 00:22:42 That was sort of like, oh, my goodness, this dude is an absolute freak of nature. Now this year that he is, yeah, I guess a full-time pitcher, for lack of a better term, I think we're starting to see how good he is at this. But, you know, it's been a while since we have seen this version of Shohei on the map. so maybe we all just needed a reminder.
Starting point is 00:23:03 And it's funny, too. They're even talking about it in the first inning where the sweeper, he had that thing going in the first inning. It looked absolutely disgusting. And then he decides, when he gets mad, he'll be like, all right, I'm going to hump it up to 101 for fun and also have a pair of devastating sweepers to get out of jams. Like, what we're seeing isn't even max intensity,
Starting point is 00:23:25 Shohay on the bump. That is controlled Shohay, and he's still dot in 99, 100. and has just about every pitch working most of the time. We'll be interesting to see. I keep side-eyeing to see if there's any updates out of the clubhouse on whether or not Dave renegs on the idea that maybe he doesn't hit tomorrow because I think you've got to get Shoah back in that lineup. You've got to go for at least a series split here.
Starting point is 00:23:51 Two more things on the pitching. Then we'll take another break. We'll come back, talk about a couple things and sign off. I saw somebody in the chat here, and I'm going to pop it up on the screen. Mr. Buddha 66 saying Clint should be chirping about Kyle Hurd. Oh, trust me. Before we went live, Marcus will tell you, I was giving a lot of love to Kyle Hurd. Like, that was a boy that is a dog right there.
Starting point is 00:24:12 It looks gross. He's he looks comfortable. He's mixing in the change-up in, like, different quadrants, or he's missing with it. I don't know, like, leaving change-up high, but he's got, like, such good control of that fastball. He could break off a breaking ball here and there. And I've been talking about, I don't know. know if a four-nothing lead in the ninth is a leverage situation. Maybe it somewhat is when you're, you know, in the midst of a four-game losing streak. But I've been talking, Marcus, about seeing
Starting point is 00:24:43 this guy get more leverage. Are you seeing anything that says this is not a dude who should be getting bigger endings than, let's say, Blake Trinen is getting? I mean, I think he's, he's climbing the trust tree with every outing that he has, right? We got a trust tree. We got a trust tree in here. I think he's climbing the trust tree right now. And, you know, yeah, maybe this isn't, maybe tonight wasn't the highest leverage situation. But to your point, when you are in a four-game losing streak, when things have sort of been going sideways for you,
Starting point is 00:25:15 getting those last three outs feels like a big deal. Even against a team that, you know, the last two nights notwithstanding, the Giants were a bad offensive club. It still felt like something to be able to lock this down. And so I think that's worthy of it. I do think it's sort of interesting when you talk about everybody getting healthy. You know, Blake Snell is back. At some point, Tyler Glass now is going to be back.
Starting point is 00:25:40 And the question comes up of, well, you know, who gets shuffled here? You know, does Robleski move to the bullpen? What happens in the bullpen? I think it's interesting that nobody says, well, Kyle Hertz going back to OKC, right? Like that hasn't even been thought about, you know? I mean, you know, in a world where Wyatt Mills is on the roster and getting opportunities here, nobody's talking about Kyle Hurt going anywhere. And so I think that that sort of proves the point that he's doing enough to not just stick, but to really get more opportunities going forward. So I'm curious to see it because he's pitched really, really well.
Starting point is 00:26:19 I'm curious to see how Dave and, you know, Mark Pryor and everybody else's the organization feel about him. Yeah, we talk about, you mentioned the trust. We've heard so many times the word meritocracy thrown out there. You should be able to pitch your way into, you know, I guess getting opportunities at your job. He's really good at his job so far. And I would rather see now in tougher situations, you know, obviously he goes into enter four, five, six hitters. Devers gets a lead off double. Devers is on an absolute heater right now.
Starting point is 00:26:51 But, yeah, I would rather see more now because if you see what this guy has and that at some point, down the road, you also get Evan Phillips back like you could have yourself a pretty devastating bullpen, something that was an absolute weakness for this team just in October ago. Also, you guys saw on the box score there, Tanner Scott was in this game as well, pitches around a hit, good on him. I love that we don't need to talk a lot about Tanner Scott. Right. He's doing his job.
Starting point is 00:27:17 That's so great. Guys, we got one more quick break. Then we'll be back. We'll talk about a couple odds and ends. And then we'll let Marcus go to sleep. We'll be right back. Cratsy, real simple, man. When you're looking for the best seats available,

Starting point is 00:28:47 in the morning on Blue Review on the ESPN, LA. YouTube channel, give them a subscribe. But a couple of things I wanted to touch John, because we've, the starting rotation has gone through a little bit of a cold stretch, and we have, I mean, I guess Roki is, you would argue, is the worst starter, even though he's been pretty okay. But Emmett Sheen gets the ball for the Dodgers tomorrow, trying to, you know, pitch to a split here. What do you like about what you've seen out of Emmett Sheen?
Starting point is 00:29:18 What do you need to see versus Landon Rup? I forgot how to say his name. What do you need to see from this team tomorrow? I mean, one, I'd like to see the offense continue to build upon what they did tonight, right? To get opportunities, get guys on base, and more importantly, just situational hitting. Because I know that's been an issue, right? You get guys on, figure out how to get them in, get them over, get them in. So that's kind of what I want to see tonight.
Starting point is 00:29:40 From Emmett Sheehan himself, I appreciate the way he has sort of battled considering the velocity concerns are real with Sheehan. And his first couple starts of the year, the velocity wasn't there. Last time out, he started with pretty good Velo, but it really diminished as the game went along. So that is a little bit of a concern. But even through that, it feels like he's kind of been dancing between the rain drops and a lot of his start. So I kind of want to see that happen. This is a good opportunity.
Starting point is 00:30:10 Again, I know the Giants, the first two games in the series scored would have combined 15 runs. I don't have that level of confidence that they're suddenly turning this on and becoming a good offensive team. So this is a good opportunity for Sheehan to maybe fix himself a little. little bit, even if the Velo's not there, just to sort of work in and out. You know, I know he's been sort of trying to channel kind of later career Clayton Kershaw in terms of how he's operating on the mound. So I just want to see if he can kind of continue to do that. And let's get a winning street going. Two is a winning street, Clint. Let's just get a winning street going heading into Anaheim over the weekend. Oh, you know that kid feels that pressure of that as well. He knows
Starting point is 00:30:49 that this is a team that would love to split, that would love to start something before. facing those Anaheim angels. And also, he probably saw this, River Ryan, he's coming off the shelf here, been sidelined for a lot longer than I anticipated with the hamstring injury at AAA. But he is back on the bump. And he is somebody that, I think at this point, if you're looking for the next kind of depth guy, it's not going to be a Gavin Stone. It's going to be him. Of course, I mean, also, you're going to have Tyler Glass now back at some point. He was spotted throwing a baseball today at Dodger Stadium, but trending in the right direction, my friend, that's what we want.
Starting point is 00:31:31 And if they go on another losing streak, you bet your ass, I'm asking you back here because that's the only way. That's the only way they, apparently, they win these days. But for the folks that don't know, I've already told them a couple of times, tell them where to find you every, what is, every weekday, right? Every weekday, Monday through Friday.
