Episode Date: April 30, 2025

The lineup went off against Sandy Alcantara with Shohei Ohtani finally debuting that dad strength with a home r...un to lead off the game. What was technically a bullpen game turned into a chance for Matt Sauer to be a hero with a 5 inning performance in relief of Jack Dreyer, who picked up the first two innings of the game.Teoscar Hernandez became the outright MLB leader in runs batted in with a 4 hit, 4 RBI night against Miami. Mookie Betts chipped in 2 hits. And Andy Pages continued his torrid stretch with another multi-hit game.Everyone contributed in this one.Nutrafol is offering our listeners $10 off your first month’s subscription and free shipping when you go to https://Nutrafol.com and enter the promo code FOUL. Use code FOUL for 20% off your first purchase on https://Rhoback.com Subscribe to Dodgers Territory on YouTube! Rate and review our podcast on Apple and Spotify! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

I'm pleased with the outcome. I'm still trying to figure out what the hell was on Kiki Hernandez's head.
Starting point is 00:01:37 Kiki is a vibe. No, I mean, the man is a vibe. That song always gets me going. And it even gets me going more after a win. Clint Paseas, Alana Rizzo, live on this post game for you on this Tuesday evening. Hello, everybody. Welcome to Dodgers territory. We are happy that you are here.
Starting point is 00:02:06 Like us. Rate us five stars. Subscribe all the things. Clint, I have been telling you. this the entire season, albeit it's April 30th. We're almost in May, my friend. I said, we need a laffer and Clint Paseas. They got a laugh for tonight. It's about dang time. It's a laffer. I said on whenever the hell the last time I did a show or thing where I was talking about the Dodgers, they need to play the pirates all the time. They need to play the Marlins
Starting point is 00:02:32 all the time. It is fun to watch them play the Marlins. But this is technically now not good enough slide I'm going to put up here or whatever you want to call it. Slide shows my age. But they scored a lot of runs. They have now scored the most runs they have for the season. Finally got a laugh for, like you said, 15-2. Matt Sauer getting the win. Sandy Alcantara, Alcantara, however you want to say.
Starting point is 00:02:59 Had himself not a game there. Kike got not the save there in the ninth inning. I'm sure everybody was happy seeing Kike. But the offense kind of waking up a little. bit here and that's what we wanted to see. A couple of guys still figuring out a little bit with Confordo and Max Muncie. My voodoo worked with Andy Paias. We'll talk about all of that. But listen, the Dodgers offense got it going early and often, including a leadoff bamba for Shohei Otani, 14th career leadoff Homer. You got to love that for show. Yeah, that was something that was
Starting point is 00:03:32 great to see because we were wondering when Shohei was going to continue to, you know, pick it up a little bit. We were talking about the dad's strength that wasn't really there. He has shown some signs of life, though, the last couple of games. Great to see that with the lead off home run. But it was funny. I was listening to the broadcast and it was nice to see, or to hear rather Stephen Nelson and Eric Caros and David Vasay on the Sports on LA broadcast tonight. And Eric said it best, when you have a bullpen game, Clint Pisces, you need your offense to really get out there and put up some runs. And that's exactly what the Dodgers did tonight. I mean, we talked about it yesterday on our show, on our normal Monday show. We said, listen, what are we going to get as far as a bullpen game? And I tell you,
Starting point is 00:04:11 Jack Dreyer did a great job. And Matt Sauer, what's up? That was a really, really great, really nice performance from Sauer. I almost forgot that Jack was in the game. This damn game was so long in terms of the amount of runs that the Dodgers put up. But he had a really nice job. That's exactly what this club needed. So I feel like tonight was the game, one of the few games this season, Clint, where we had the offense that we needed and the Dodgers pitching really shut things down. Yeah, it's a game that absolutely resets a lot of things for the team. I mean, the vibes are riding high offensively because just about everybody contributed in this one.
Starting point is 00:04:47 But to get that, I'm calling it beat, you know, be an effing hero for Matt Sauer going five, five innings allowing just the run. We got a 499 super chat from my buddy Richard Flores. Richie says that ninth inning with Kiki on the mound looked like a beer league game. When is Pahez Bobblehead night? I appreciate Richard supporting the show. Again, you got to beat bad teams and you got to save as much of your bullpen as you can as this team did. So just, I mean, you could not have put together a better ballgame for the Dodgers and for Dave Roberts than what we saw tonight.
Starting point is 00:05:27 I mean, isn't that the thing, though, what you just said, you have to beat the bad teams. And no disrespect to the Pittsburgh Pirates, no disrespect to the Miami Marlins. But honest to goodness, if you're the Los Angeles Dodgers and you saw the disparity as far as payroll coming into the Marlins and Dodgers series, you have to beat these teams. Like this is what you're supposed to do. There's no excuse not to beat these teams just based on talent level and experience and the back of the baseball card for the rosters on both of these clubs. Great to see, you know, Clayton back, Clayton McCullough back, obviously getting his World Series ring. But this is, yeah, you have to, you have to smash these clubs. And that's what they did tonight. And it was a good all-around performance.
Starting point is 00:06:08 I'm pleased with the outcome. I'm still trying to figure out what the hell was on Kiki Hernandez's head. I understand he wore it in spring training. I get the whole thing. Dave Essei, you know, had a little bit of a sideline hit on it too. But Kike is a vibe. No? I mean, the man is a vibe.
Starting point is 00:06:25 Something. What we'll call him a character is every bit of a character. He knows his role. It's to, you know, come off the bench, play everywhere for this team. and also create some lulls, create some laughter, the king of a viral moment. You know plenty of those in your time covering this team and having him on the roster.
Starting point is 00:06:43 But important thing is, hey, he picked up an extra inning as well because looking forward, which we'll probably do again a little bit later, as people join us in the chat. Appreciate you guys hanging out with us. Like Alana said earlier, like, subscribe, do all those things. We're trying to get to 10,000 subscribers. But tomorrow, Anthony Gonsland makes his return. Tony the Catman for a 1210 start in Los Angeles.
Starting point is 00:07:06 So like if things go sideways for Tony smokes, to know you have Luis Garcia available tomorrow. You have so much of the bullpen now completely rested and ready to go. Another off day on, I believe they have an off day on Thursday. And then you just kind of let it ride from there. So again, great reset for this team. And also you got to, you feel bad for Sandy Al. Alcantara, because I appreciated Stephen Nelson, our boy Nelly,
Starting point is 00:07:37 really, really driving home the pronunciation there. But listen, he's making only a six start since, you know, coming back from Tommy John, he's historically been bad against the Dodgers. It does give up seven earned today. Two and two-thirds inning does not make it out of the third. 79 pitches over that stretch. 9.66 career ERA against the Dodgers. If he didn't have it, the Dodgers really, really found out early that he did not have it.
Starting point is 00:08:06 They did score three runs in the first, runs in each of the first three innings. And overall, I think they scored in like five of seven or six of eight innings today. Offense was just firing on every single cylinder. And again, it starts with Sho Hayotani, getting that homer first pitch. You got to love to see it. And the offense all around, just contributing all around. mooky mooky chipping in two hits you remember everyone we thought we thought mooky was dead he had two hits i never thought mokey was dead what did i tell you i'm not gonna i'm never going to uh pass on on
Starting point is 00:08:40 mucky bets yeah sandy alcounter 79 pitches clint in two and two thirds innings uh again you got to jump on the race right that especially in a bullpen game especially uh when you're taking advantage of that you knew want to take advantage of that's exactly what the dodgers did tonight i mean i show hey of course um but let's let's let's give some love i said this the other day on except actually yesterday, I said the praise must be as loud as the disrespect and myself included in that when it came to Andy Pahas. And I don't know what the heck happened to him in the last two weeks, but I love this version of Andy Pahas. Another multi-hit game today for him. He looks good. I don't know what the hell he changed. But the hit street continues. And it's not just against
Starting point is 00:09:22 Pittsburgh. We were joking that he was just going to get on the pirate. I mean, Joe Davis was saying he's just going to get on the plane wherever the pirates go. He's like, I'm just going to go with you guys. And whoever you play, I want to play for that team because he just absolutely crushes the Pittsburgh Pirates. But it was great to see him be able to continue those offensive ways against the Miami Marlins. Five of the games that he's had a hit in are the multi-hit game variety. That's what you want to see, right?
Starting point is 00:09:47 I mean, again, we've said, okay, this is the guy that doesn't, he's not a natural center fielder, this team doesn't have one. His defense has improved. He looks a lot better. But, you know, again, 17 for his last 29 as you put in our rundown here. He entered 14 for 24. 586, Clint, as you mentioned in here. Over that stretch, I mean, that's, I'll take that.
Starting point is 00:10:09 I'll take that version of Andy Pahas any day of the week. The funny thing is he now, I believe, well, I don't know, we have to see how things shake out when you're looking at, you know, wins above replacement. But by war, he is leading the team in war. so far this open season by baseball reference standards. It is pretty insane. It would also be insane for us to not throw to hear about Nutrafol from, I think Scott Brown's involved. Let's listen to the guys tell us about Nutrafol.

If you guys click on the links, they are in the description below or hit that QR code, support the brands that support the network. really, really goes a long way. But Alana, you talk about Andy Pahez, but how about this dude to Oscar Hernandez? He's been pretty dang good for this ball club.
Starting point is 00:14:34 Four hit night, four RBI night, and suddenly leading all of Major League Baseball with now 31 runs batted in on the season. The dude is just clutch. The dude is filthy. He's hitting over three, I think now close to like 370, with runners in scoring position.
Starting point is 00:14:53 I'm glad you were. were very loud that they needed to bring this boy back. And to think that they're like, oh, my goodness, are we going to get Juan Soto? We need one. So don't. No, we don't. No, we don't. No, we don't.
Starting point is 00:15:06 No, we don't. Listen, shut up. I'm not paying $765 million or whatever the- We are not paying either way. Well, sure, sure, sure. But when I say we, I mean, the point is, I mean, I'll take a 31 RBI guy and Teosker Hernandez, who does it with a smile and does it with happiness and grace and wants to be a Los Angeles Dodger.
Starting point is 00:15:30 And it's funny because I'm looking at the chat here. ADK says, I'm generally happy for Pahas. Yes, I agree with you. But he also said, Mr. Seabed said, Teosker equals the big chorizo. Your mom is way. That's the thing. It's like, Torezos is the Mexican sausage. And obviously, Teoscar is not Mexican, but you get where Mr. Seabat is going with that.
Starting point is 00:15:52 I love it. No, he's a he's. Exactly what the Dodgers need. He's exactly what they need. I said this a thousand times. I realize Shohayotani was the MVP last season as he should be. I get it. But for the first half of the year, Teo was the Dodgers MVP.
Starting point is 00:16:06 I mean, he was the most consistent hitter in the lineup as far as production. He has picked up exactly where he has left off. Again, in this lineup, you don't have to be the dude. But Teosker continues to emerge as the dude. Once again, just very quietly, very slowly, 31 RBI. Like you look at the lineup up and down Clint, you're not going to be like, if you look at it, you're not picking Tay Oscar for that. But he's still, he's doing it. Yeah, no.
Starting point is 00:16:32 Teo, again, been phenomenal. He just, he has something to him. He has the clutch chain. And, you know, you mentioned he's your first half MVP last year. He's my postseason MVP because the Dodgers do not do what they do last year, winning those 11 games without him. Because he has man strength. And that's a big, big thing when you're talking. about hitting a baseball and colder weather in October.
Starting point is 00:16:57 He can hit a ball over the wall. He can hit some gaps, and he uses the entire field. Yeah, the defense at times can be a little shaky. I'm sure Jack Dreyer would like to maybe have a little bit of redo on that leadoff triple to open the game. Didn't talk about Jack Dreyer, by the way. Also gave this team two innings, one run earned on that play to open the game, which admittedly, I didn't see.
Starting point is 00:17:24 So Teo did nothing wrong in that regard, but to add to the Matt Sauer love. Think about the savings. Think about the savings. You know, I mean, okay. We're talking about over so-so and Teo? Yes. Oh, yeah. You're like, okay.
Starting point is 00:17:37 So you may not be the best defensive right fielder. Well, I'd rather have him than Anthony Santander. I'd rather have him than Juan Soto. I mean, neither one of those are like gold glove right fielders. No. And I think, I mean, I don't know. I just, I'm a massive Teo fan. Yeah, he's just a good dude.
Starting point is 00:17:53 he's he's he's he's just perfect for this club he's exactly what this club needs in right field in the lineup in the clubhouse all the things there's a lot of good dudes on this team by the way especially when you're considering or when you're factoring in offense because again everybody contributed in some way shape or form to this team even the ofer club which was max and uh max munsey and michael conforto but they at least also chipped in walks confordo had um a stolen base and grounded to double play but we don't need to talk about it. about that but freddie two for two couple doubles couple walks o p s on the season now over one thousand so freddie doing good things on a bum ankle mookie mookie entered play today
Starting point is 00:18:34 uh six for his last 46 actually up until he got that hit in the whatever it was sixth inning fifth inning he was six for his last 46 which not good but now two for his last two and that's what we got to focus on right yeah think about what have you done for me lately as we look forward to tomorrow. I mean, I'm looking forward to seeing your boy, the cat man, a new look, a new look in terms of Tony Gonsolin, who obviously was supposed to start the season with the club, but then had a weightlifting accident when you and I actually were in Camelbacker, Anches when we found this out when we were talking to Rick Honeycutt, who was there. And looking forward to that, it's an early start. Obviously, Austin Barnes will be behind the plate for that because Will Smith caught tonight. So we'll see what
Starting point is 00:19:20 happens in terms of that. First base. I mean, Wilson, by the way. Yeah, that was crazy. Has Will ever played first?
Starting point is 00:19:27 Excuse me, has Austin Barnes ever played first base before? He has not, which is, you know, what, your 11th year in the league? Now is,
Starting point is 00:19:36 I guess, a time to do it. But, yeah, here's the offense up and down. We also got to give some love there to Williams,
Starting point is 00:19:44 Dills Smith. He's been so good. Will, he's been just so dang good. He's been just so dang good. for this ball club. And what I appreciate from Will is the fact that, you know, coming out of spring training, we didn't know what to expect because we hear that he's kind of nursing and ankle injury that was a nagging ankle injury from the year before. Didn't necessarily have a phenomenal
Starting point is 00:20:06 spring training if I could recall correctly, but he's just going up there. He's another dude hitting around 350 with runners in scoring position. Chips in another two-hit game. You see the OPS there on the screen over 900. It's, you know, he's putting. putting up MVP type numbers. He's doing it lower in the lineup. Something this team needs a lot. But cannot forget about Will amongst, you know, all of the offense that this team put together.
Starting point is 00:20:31 If you look up and down this lineup, Clint, and again, I know that this isn't the everyday lineup. I mean, it is for the most part. But you look at this and Muncie obviously has moved all the way down there to that spot. But only two guys are hitting above 300. I mean, Show Hey's close. He's at 288.
Starting point is 00:20:47 But, you know, we need bets to get to, where we know bets can be. Freeman, obviously, is the most steady hitter over the course of his career. He's a, he's a Hall of Famer for sure. And Will Smith is batting 316 right now. I mean, that's something that's incredibly impressive for the workload that he has to do behind the plate. Because when you think of a catcher, you're like, all right, your first responsibility is obviously guiding that pitching staff, right?
Starting point is 00:21:09 And then if you could get somebody that is offensively productive as a catcher, I mean, that's a bonus, right? And he's doing it all. I mean, he's leading the team as far as average is concerned. And he has a hefty load behind the plate, too. So he's been, he's been great. I mean, we, you were one that wanted to send Will Smith to the moon last year. And now, it was, it was rough in the second half.
Starting point is 00:21:30 He was. I'm not, I'm not, I'm not saying he wasn't. You're absolutely right. But the point is, whatever he was not doing correctly last year, it seems that he has corrected that. And he's been the most consistent hitter in terms of average. Or he is once again coming out of the gate on fire and hopefully not tapering. off. I will say I appreciate Dave's effort and trying to get Austin in there a little bit
Starting point is 00:21:52 more. Will needs his days off. If he's going to continue to be an offensive force over the course of 162 games, he needs some rest. He's going to need to get a couple of games off. Hang on, this is freaking funny. This is funny. What do you got? Mr. Seabed. For those who doubted Pahez, you can
Starting point is 00:22:10 order Pahas' flowers at 1,800 flowers. Use discount code Rizzo told you. I love this dude. Mr. Seabad, you make me laugh. And thanks to being part of the show. That's freaking hilarious. Rizzo told you.
Starting point is 00:22:23 There it is. I get it on the screen for us. That's pretty dang good. George says, speaking of rest, Alana needs a rest. Absolutely. No, I'm good. I took a nap.
Starting point is 00:22:33 I took a nap. I'm fine. Look, Tuesdays are nap days. We know that. And Tuesdays are also. You guys, it's 115 where I am. So, but I did. I took an up.
Starting point is 00:22:42 I'm good. But it's 1018 where I'm at right now. Now I'd like to introduce you to meaningful beauty. The famed skincare brand created by iconic supermodel Cindy Crawford. You know what's crazy is I was very disappointed that, oh, something about a woman's my favorite song on here. Good job, Kristen Edmund. Good job, Kristen, Edmund. There's a very little country on here, which bums me out.
Starting point is 00:26:56 This is not that kind of ball club. Maybe. I don't know. Yeah, you're right. There's not a lot of country folk on here. I mean, Freddie Freeman, I think, likes country, but whatever. Yeah, but something about a woman's a great song. That's point.
Starting point is 00:27:09 Yeah, it's the ladies that are picking it. What would be your walk-up song if you had won at bat as a big leaguer? Because why not? This is what I do now. I just ask you these stupid questions. No, no. You know, I've thought about this. I was like, who's that lady?
Starting point is 00:27:25 Who's that lady? Because if I, like, came out there, they'd be like, who's this chick? I could pick whatever song I wanted to be like, you know, just for me. It's had to be a Morgan Wallen song. I mean, I'm obsessed with him. Listen, I remember back in the day you listening to like dirt on my boots 15 times. Are my boots. It's a bar.
Starting point is 00:27:43 That's my jam. That's still one of my go-toes when starting out a road trip. By the way, for me, it's rain and men. Hallelujah. It's rain and men. Shout out to my boy, Kevin Perez-Alan for making that my walk-up song on our old, old, old podcast. It wasn't a walk-up song.
Starting point is 00:27:59 But it's just a bop. It gets the blood flowing in all the right ways. That's funny. I never would have picked that for you. Hallelujah. Noah Ortegas is back in. I have the song. I don't know the rest of the lyrics.
Starting point is 00:28:16 You don't need to know it. You don't need to know it. Guys, people enjoying this, if you're enjoying this, hit that thumbs up button. If you're not enjoying it, definitely hit that thumbs up button. Before we leave, did you have a player of the game? Who are you assigning player of the game for this one? I'm going to give that to Matt Sauer. I think it was so important to come out and be able to go as long as he could
Starting point is 00:28:38 and keep the Marlins at bay. again in a bullpen game you don't know what you're going to get they needed to save those bullpen arms we have an early game tomorrow tony gonslonson's coming back for the first time he hasn't pitched a daughter stadium in two years uh you don't know what you're going to get from the catman you know what i mean so i think it was very important to use as few arms as possible tonight so so Matt sour is my player of the game what about you uh it should be Matt sour for me but i don't want us to both be picking Matt sour so it's got to be tail four hits four runs batted in leads all of humanity and runs batted in for the 2025 season. You got to love Teo. Leads a team in vibes and
Starting point is 00:29:16 smiles and seed tosses, seed exit velocity. So that's our guy. That's a guy. ADK says Matt Sauer, absolutely the player of the game. By the way, Diane and Indigenous 69, giving us thumbs up for, I'm hoping that they like what we're talking about there. But I think that's about time to get out of here, Liz. Yeah, I just wanted to say, have a great show on Thursday. I am hosting foul territory tomorrow for Scott Braun. I'm pinch hitting once again. And we're actually going to have a couple of special guests. Jason Worth is on the show tomorrow. I'm excited about that because he has another horse in the derby. And that is where I will be on Thursday. We are heading to the derby. So I'm going to talk to Jason Worth about that. And you are going to have a special guest on
Starting point is 00:30:03 Thursday for Dodgers territory, so enjoy that. But for all of you guys with us tonight, we appreciate you very much. Dodgers get a laffer. This was important. Clint is back on Thursday. I will be back with you guys next week. Thanks for being here. Go Dodgers.
