Starting point is 00:02:02 Store hours vary by location. I think that sent a message to his teammates that, you know, he had the Cohonas to be able to hang in there. To me, I feel like that's where his season changed. Hello and good afternoon, everybody. And welcome to the live edition of Dodgers Territory on the Fowell Territory channel. My name is Alana Rizzo alongside my co-host, Clint Paseas. We're going to talk about his podcast later on, All Dodgers, a little third.
Starting point is 00:02:33 Thursday action coming up, but a lot to talk about here on Dodgers territory. AM 570 reporter David Vasay will be joining us momentarily. So get your questions in as far as that is concerned for Vasay. He'll hopefully answer some of those for you. But Clint, I tell you what, there's a lot to talk about, my friend. So let's get into it with the big ticket. Let's do it. All right.
Starting point is 00:02:58 Where do you want to begin? I want to prop you up with the whole tea on Miguel Rojas. You knew you had something going there. So I know you have a lot to get into, but let's start with, let's start with McGee Row. Hey, McGee Row is doing exactly what this team needs, wanted when they first traded for him. This is the role. This is a steadying presence in the lineup, a veteran presence, a professional, a good at bat, a good quality at bat at the bottom of the lineup, keeping the line moving. He's also kind of slugging a little bit.
Starting point is 00:03:26 He's doing a little bit of everything and officially moving over to second base, acting as a teacher for Muky Betts, which I think is. is one of those very much unsung hero things that he's doing in the lineup. And just he's been phenomenal. I love what we're seeing out of. I was going to say, Mookie Betts. I love Mookie Betts too. But I love what we're seeing out of Miguel Rojas, finally settling into that role the team always envisioned. Yeah, home plate smiles.
Starting point is 00:03:54 You saw that there on the Dodger social media channel. And it's funny, too, because Miguel Rojas is the second basement, okay? And so Gavin Lux can figure some things out. Mookiee Betts, obviously, the starting shortstop. The numbers that he is putting up, Clint, I am starting to run out of adjectives for what this guy means. If you're the Boston Red Sox fan base, you've got to be like, really?
Starting point is 00:04:15 This guy wasn't worth keeping? Really? You're really coming out of firing from the hip of that one. I know we saw one tweet. There was a writer online. I forget the fellow's name. I think we have the tweet loaded up here. Mori Brown talking about it.
Starting point is 00:04:29 You can see why the Red Sox did pass on Mookie. bets. Of course, they did not want to go beyond, what was it, 10 years, $300 million extension back in the day. Mookie knew he was worth more. He wanted to get his worth. He wanted to set a new market standard for outfielders. Now we're looking at a shortstop. But my God, has Mookie bets been fun to watch? And hey, you know, we have a month now of shortstop Mookie and quieting the haters for sure. Yeah, there's some errors in there, but he looks pretty damn good. And now officially the starting shortstop. Dave Roberts, not going to be putting Miguel Rojas at shortstop anymore.
Starting point is 00:05:06 Mookiei says, let me take it and run with it. That's the only way I'm going to get better. I mean, honestly, Mookie Betz is the best athlete in the game. I don't care if you're talking right fielder, shortstop, left fielder, catcher, pitcher, bowler, archer, you know, equestrian. Mookie Betts is the best athlete in the game. And I want to bring up the, you know, the conversation that Kratzy had over. on foul territory when the decision was made that Mookie Betts was going to be the starting
Starting point is 00:05:34 shorts up and he was like kind of not all about it. But that will leave that for another time because he's our friend, he's our teammate, but I told you so, crats. That's all I want to tell you. All right. Andy Pahas, this is a guy Clint, you were high on and there's a reason you were high. You're hitting a thousand right now with your predictions of why you wanted Miggie Rowe and why you wanted Andy Pahas in this lineup. Has he solidified a spot on this rotation or excuse me, roster moving forward because he's given that boost to the bottom of the lineup that we were so desperately looking for. Oh, man. Pahas has been everything this lineup was missing over the first couple of weeks of the season. I kind of said it last week at this point. You know,
Starting point is 00:06:15 you got a spark in the bottom of lineup, something the team needed, but he's not going anywhere. They need to find him, but we see 84 on the screen right now. Find him a big boy number. He is here to stay and he's earning every bit of it. I mean, you're looking at somebody who, who's now moving up already hitting six in the lineup. If it wasn't such a deep lineup, you could see him hitting even higher, putting together really good at bats, quality at bats,
Starting point is 00:06:39 and he is fun to watch and no slouch in the outfield too. He's really the complete package. Love what we're seeing out of Andy Paez. And you hope the league doesn't try to catch up to him at some point right now, but I think he's doing a really bang-up job of adjusting to what they're throwing at him and playing a great role for this team as well. Yeah, my man is not a tight end.
Starting point is 00:06:57 Can we get him, Alex Torres and the Dodgers clubhouse, the head clubhouse guy who's the glue that keeps that clubhouse together? I don't care what anybody says. He does so much for this team. Alex Torres, let's get Andy Pahis out of number 84. But Clint, one thing that stood out over the course of the last road trip, and you and I have talked about this at length. I mean, you cover this team closer than anybody. The lineup depth of this team is sick. Shohei Otani, Max Muncie on the bench.
Starting point is 00:07:25 and the team continues to put up runs. Six runs on the board. That's a deep lineup. There's not an easy out right now. Yeah, they scored eight with a and shut out. Of course, important to note they did shut out. Crap,
Starting point is 00:07:39 who the hell they played last night? You know, I did start drinking early for today's show. But anyways, you add their second shutout of the season. That's coffee, everybody. Don't worry. Lana's drinking coffee.
Starting point is 00:07:50 She is a professional. Put eight runs on the board with Shohei getting his first day off. Muncie has kind of been, you know, I would say it's not really a full platoon mode or platoon role, but we're seeing a little bit of guys settling into their roles and giving opportunities to guys like Miguel Rojas, guys like Kike Hernandez, who has been heating up. And this is what this team does, Alana. You know this because you've seen it firsthand.
Starting point is 00:08:16 The front office, Andrew Friedman and company, they put together these deep lineups and deep rosters where people might not buy in, immediately fans might not buy in. immediately over the first week or two where things maybe aren't the prettiest, but we've seen these guys perform at the highest level. Even Austin Barnes, who, when you bring that guy up in the offseason, people are running at you with torches and pitchforks and all that. Barnes having a hell of a season as well. It's up and down the lineup, just firing on almost all cylinders,
Starting point is 00:08:47 and it's really fun to watch. All right, Clint, they played the debacks last night. Let's not forget that. How about this? Dodgers Z Showtime fans, Andy Pahas for. rookie of the year. Who knows? Maybe we also have a super chat. We always appreciate you getting involved in the conversation with us here at Dodgers territory on our foul territory channel. Ivan wants to know, has Kiki finally earned his spot? You know, I tell you what, Kike again, he's a clutch guy.
Starting point is 00:09:12 He's a postseason guy. He's a guy that we've talked about at Kemp Fasius. He's a guy that needs to play all of the time to keep his timing. He also gets really irritated when he doesn't play all the time and for Kike and I love him it does affect him emotionally it affects him so he he lets it get to him I think too much when he doesn't play but in your opinion is he starting to look better maybe taken off right now yeah I think there's a few things you need to consider with Kike Hernandez is one he is you know settling back in his own right into kind of a utility role playing that role he played so well for the Dodgers for a number of years but also this is a dude who had pretty significant off-season surgery, the double hernia surgery, something that had been affecting him
Starting point is 00:09:55 in a while. So that would, you know, presumably it would affect his off-season work. So he got signed a little bit later in the off-season. You kind of get your swing going a little bit later. So the first week or two of the season, in effect, was kind of his spring training. Now you're seeing him come to life. And he's looking good on defense. He's looking to get really good at the dish. You know, another one of those guys, veteran putting together quality at bats. And we've seen what Kiki can do on the biggest stages. And that's what this guy was. He was assigning when you look towards World Series run.
Starting point is 00:10:33 You look towards October. He can do a little bit of everything you need. And he's doing it now healthy. And that's helping this team out a whole bunch. Yeah, offseason groin surgery. He's looking good though now. And again, this team expects to play in October. Kiki could be a very big part of that.
Starting point is 00:10:48 Keep your questions coming. David Vassay of AM 570 is going to join Clinton I here momentarily talking about this team. Dave obviously covers them on a daily basis. So load up those questions for him in the chat. Before we get to Dave, you had mentioned Austin Barnes, who I adore. And again, Austin Barnes does what you ask him to do, but he doesn't get to play every day because there's a guy called Will Smith behind the plate. This guy is not red hot, Clint. He is white hot.
Starting point is 00:11:12 Will Smith, I argue, is not just the most underrated catcher in baseball. he could be one of the most underrated players in baseball. He's hitting 355 as an OPS at 950 so far this season. He moved up to third in the lineup with Shohei on the bench on Wednesday night. Again, times are really hard right now. But he hits a homer. Will is just fun to watch steadying presence also in that lineup. When you're talking about Shohei Hottie.
Starting point is 00:11:45 You're talking about Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman. haven't even mentioned yet. Oh, by the way, Will Smith is off to the best part of his career already, you know, has an all-star birth under his belt. Really, really fun to watch Will come into his own and say, hey, you know, maybe I should have got more on that contract extension. Yeah, did you see Will Smith there obviously do like the hip thrust that happened when Kiki actually like messed up at hip. But last year, it was like a year to this day, right, that the Freeman, the Freddie Freeman was born? Yeah, yeah, that was born at the
Starting point is 00:12:17 there it is, beautiful dancing right there. Thank you. Thank you. Blue Diamond Gala a year ago. I think this year's is a little bit earlier than it was last year, but still, and then the team a month or two later decided to make that kind of there. Freddie went viral with his dance.
Starting point is 00:12:34 And then, you know, when Kiki came over, of course, he had fun with the hip dancing. But I want to shout out Will Smith, if we're talking about the Freddie, because he was somebody that was a little laughable at first with the dances, little robotic. He doesn't have, he doesn't want to show.
Starting point is 00:12:50 He's not a huge, like, look at me guy. Will Smith would rather crawl under a rock than have any attention put on him. Sneaky hips, though, sneaky hips from Willie, Big Willie style, all of a sudden, maybe he can dance a little bit. We love seeing it. Friend of the show. And they might have the opportunity to see it because tonight is the
Starting point is 00:13:06 Dodgers Gala, the Blue Diamond Gala. Of course, we'll talk to David Vessay about that. We'll find out who he is wearing, what he thinks, you know, who he thinks is going be the best dressed on the blue carpet, those types of things, and it all benefits the Dodgers Foundation. Hello, hello. I'm Malcolm Gladwell, host of Smart Talks with IBM. I recently spoke with IBM's new director of research, Jake Embatta. We discussed his vision for the future of quantum computing. At IBM research, what we always do is answer what is the future of computing, whether it's coming up
Starting point is 00:13:40 with new algorithms, coming up with better AI, coming up with quantum, or coming up with just how do different accelerators go together. It's our DNA to answer the question of what is the future. Isn't it a perfect problem for IBM because you kind of need to have a legacy of building stuff? Yes. Building actual physical machines. Yeah, it's why I came to IBM. I wanted the experience, the culture of building hard things that others have not done before. Where do you imagine we are in the timeline of this technology?
Starting point is 00:14:17 There will come a point when it will mature. Right? My cell phone is a mature technology at this point. How far are we from that point with Conton? By 2029, we'll build the first fault-tolerant quantum computer. That is one that can run a very, very large, large problem. To learn how IBM is building the future of computing, visit IBM.com

Starting point is 00:15:53 It's just a lesson. Who's it up, champ? I can't. I think I might have gotten away with something I shouldn't have. What the heck are you talking about? Okay, do you see that brand new Hyundai Santa Fe over there? Yeah. Well, I only pay the...
Starting point is 00:16:07 Deal so right, it almost feels wrong. Get the Hyundai you've always wanted. Plus America's best warranty. At the Hyundai Getaway sales event. Finish that bucket of balls on your own. I got to run. Well, Santa Fe's coming green, right? I love green.

Get 0% APR for 60 months, plus zero payments for 90 days on the Hyundai Tucson, Tucson, Hybrid, Santa Fe, or Santa Fe hybrid. Now, during the Hyundai Getaway sales event. Hurry. Starting point is 00:16:42 Call 562-314-4-603 for D. Before we get to Dave, who's going to join us momentarily here, if you remembers actually, Yamamoto, despite the first start Clint in Seoul Korea, Yamamoto has been worth so far, I know it's early, all $325 million that they gave him. We're starting to see why they thought so highly of him. What have you seen? Why so many people around baseball thought so highly of him? You throw out that first start, nerves, jitters.
Starting point is 00:17:16 They tried to change some things with his hand positioning to mitigate anybody potentially stealing signs. I think I fully agree with you. You're seeing why so many people wanted him, so many teams wanted them, and why the Dodgers were like, we will give you 12 years and $326 million, $25 million to come pitch for us. This is a dude you could not have asked for more out of Yama in his first month. And we mentioned Andy Pa has maybe rookie of the year campaign. This is a strong beginning to a rookie of the year season for Yamamoto. I don't know if you agree, but he's been fun to watch.
Starting point is 00:17:52 It's hard for me to have a pitcher be a rookie of the year or a MVP only because they don't play every single day. I mean, there's differing opinions on that, obviously. And I would love to see, obviously, Andy Pahas get rookie of the year. I'm a Dodger fan. But you're going to be hard pressed to see if somebody like Colton Couser doesn't get it. I don't know if you've paid attention to what Colton Couser has done for the Baltimore Orioles. but it's absolutely ridiculous what he's doing. You know, that's true.
Starting point is 00:18:17 That is true. That is the idea. You're absolutely right. But, you know, you look at guys, that's like, that's an impact that I see, like, those big numbers. I realize he's in the American League, but those big, big numbers, like Corbyn Carroll last year in the National League, those are big numbers. Ken Pa has put those up, perhaps, yes.
Starting point is 00:18:34 But I do have more of a hard time saying a rookie. I know, I, you know, it happens, like a rookie being, or a pitcher, rather, being a rookie of the year. But regardless, the point is he looks good. Yeah, you go out there and win 16 or 18 games and, you know, post an ERA around two and a half or under. I think you, you know, you can make a pretty damn good argument for, for Yoshinobu Yamamoto. But hey, you know, as long as the, the Roy is coming from the Dodgers, we'll be happy. Yeah. Here's a big thing that we should probably should have started the big ticket with. There's just so much to talk about today. Walker Bueller's coming back. Hello.
Starting point is 00:19:07 Kurt Fn Bueller. Boutane is going to be back first start since June 10th, 2022, long road to recovery. You know, even that 2022 season was a bit of a struggle for him health-wise, was exceptional in 2021. Of course, finishing the top five in NL. Cy Young Award voting. But this was a guy that I think, I know I've been very much waiting for. This is sort of, to me, I don't want to.
Starting point is 00:19:37 to say the season teeters on him because that's putting a lot on one guy and we know one player does not win a world series but the dodgers have been bouncing the first round the last two years when Walker bueller has not been available i think there's something to that and i think when you add him alongside uh tyler glasnow and alongside yoshua yamombo yamoto maybe clayton kershaw down the road you have a really effing good starting rotation with that addition of walker bueller but i think it's really smart though clint that they're putting him on the mound against marlowe who are terrible and they're doing it at home before we get to Dave because David's checking in right now so we want to get to him because we want to have some time with him what are the
Starting point is 00:20:15 limitations do you think that he's going to have placed on him and are there certain expectations it's tough this is his second Tommy John yeah yeah I mean just get what you can out of him I think that we'll ask Dave about that right now I believe Dave is ready to go or yeah let's continue that conversation with Dave Vasay of course host of Dodger talk on A and AM 570 LA Sports Radio, a legend here in Los Angeles and all over the globe. What's going on, DV? Everything is great. Great to join the show.
Starting point is 00:20:47 Hi, Alana. Hi, Dave. I miss you. I love that you're here. I didn't realize that today was the Dodgers gala. And now I feel terrible because you're off today, but you're not off because now you're on our show. But we appreciate you.
Starting point is 00:20:58 What are you wearing tonight, David? A blue sport coat and some jeans and maybe a blue shirt. You know, I'll play the part. I'll play the blue diamond part. So I got some blue. My wife's more excited than I am about going. She says it's like a work Christmas party. Yeah, Ed Shearer, no doubt.
Starting point is 00:21:18 All right, David, let's talk about this club. A great road trip that they're coming off of. Clint and I had discussed after they were playing kind of poorly that the last game at home before they went to the East Coast was a get-right game. And David, they've had a lot of get-right games since then. What's been the biggest change that you've seen over the last, 10 to 12 days. Well, I know the offense has been unbelievable on this nine-game road trip, but really I point to the bullpen during that nine-game homestand where they lost every
Starting point is 00:21:49 series, the bullpen was giving up some key go-ahead hits and home runs. And on this road trip, I believe they only gave up three run runs, not more than four. So for me, that's been the biggest difference. And also, their starters gave them a lot of length. I mean, last night was a great indication of that Yamamoto, six scoreless innings. Gavin Stone in one of the starts on the road trip went seven, a career high. Glass now did his thing going into the seventh inning. So to me, the pitchers had it good because they were pitching with the lead most of the time. But once they turned things over to the bullpen, they kept the game where it was.
Starting point is 00:22:28 And you know, we got to give some love in there to land a knack for filling in for a few starts. looked really, really good. That's what you want out of this dude. But he will give way now to Walker Bueller. He was a guy we were talking about just before. Dave, what are you hearing about any potential limitations for Walker? This was what we were talking about when we brought you in. Do you think this is a guy?
Starting point is 00:22:49 Maybe we don't see him going beyond 85 pitches, five innings, or do you think they just kind of let him let it eat? No, Dave Roberts said yesterday it's going to be around 80 pitches, which makes a lot of sense, right? When he pitches on Monday, it'll be the first time. in essentially two years, just a month shy of two years. So you're going to see him treated like any other pitcher first turn around the rotation. There was a reason why he went six rehab starts, even though, you know, this process has been
Starting point is 00:23:20 going on for two years. Not only was, it wasn't a point of him bouncing back by the time it got to the fourth start. Even he said this, that his stuff just wasn't good. And so the Dodgers and Bueller wanted to make sure his stuff was where he would want it because he even said that he feels the burden of responsibility not to go out there in a major league game and then turn things over to the bullpen because he couldn't go more than three or four innings, whether it was health or ineffectiveness. So you don't hear that too often. So they checked literally all the boxes and then some to make sure he was. ready to go. And it's not a coincidence either and no disrespect to the Marlins that he's going to
Starting point is 00:24:09 make his first start against the Marlins at Dodger Stadium. So I feel safe to say it's a soft landing for him. Dave, I want to ask you a little bit more about Yoshinovo Yamamoto. Despite that first outing in Seoul, he's looked great his last six starts. Now, the one knock on him that I believe is that people say he's a little afraid to throw the fastball. He kind of relies on his secondary pitches a little bit too much. Is that a fair assessment? Is he getting better in that area? Yeah, he was getting too predictable, Alana. The fastball, there's no secret. It's straight as narrow. And when you know it's coming first pitch fastball, guys were sitting on it. And, you know, obviously the Padres, both times they faced Yamamoto and felt like they knew what was coming, right?
Starting point is 00:24:54 They may have had some sort of tip on him. But outside of the Padres, he's been really good. And I feel like his season turned around in that game at Wrigley Field in the very first inning again, where he loaded the bases with nobody out. And as you guys know, struck out the side in order after that to get out of there. I think that sent a message to his teammates that, you know, he had the Kohonis to be able to hang in there and not break and, you know, let the dam explode there. So to me, I feel like that's where his season changed. So if we're talking Yamamoto, we can't not talk about a fellow. countryman you get to see now day
Starting point is 00:25:33 on a day to day basis Dave you get to see show Haywitani in the flesh what has been kind of a wow moment for you in watching this guy's daily work well contrary to your belief he doesn't walk on water he actually puts on his leg at a time
Starting point is 00:25:49 the normal dude breaking news breaking news you know there's no glow around him he's just a regular guy but honestly he's been more approachable because of the no longer Ipe being around and kind of being that in a marry in merriere between him and the rest of the team so the human shield is gone and guys have told me that the relationships between him
Starting point is 00:26:17 and them have actually become greater and he's just one of the guys now and honestly in the last week or so I've had more interactions with him than I had all the spring training and you know all those things as Alana knows being in the clubhouse. They just happen organically and he's just opening up and being more of just a regular guy. And players tell me behind the scenes, he's really humorous and has a great sense of humor. And you've seen it already in the dugout. He's sharing scouting reports after his at-bats. Players are sharing their scouting reports with him after their at-bat. So yeah, it's working out really well. I love to hear that. That's great. You want a guy that's absolutely approachable.
Starting point is 00:27:03 Hello, hello. I'm Malcolm Gladwell, host of Smart Talks with IBM. I recently spoke with IBM's new director of research, Jake Mbata. Oh boy. Yeah, I know. My golf swing is off today.
Starting point is 00:29:34 It's just a lesson. Who's set up, Chan? I can't. I think I might have gotten away with something I shouldn't have. What the heck are you talking about? Before I get you back to Clint here, Dave, so Bobby Miller, when he went on the IL, Dave Roberts said it's just a little smoke.
Starting point is 00:30:34 And we have a question here in the chat regarding. this. It seems like he's going to be pushed back a little longer. Is it more than just a little smoke, Dave? What can you tell us about Bobby Miller's status? Yeah, he's not throwing yet. So I would say it's more than a little smoke. At this point, the longer it goes on, the longer it's going to take for him to come back and be built up. But talking to Bobby, he doesn't seem that concerned about it. It's something that he was dealing with at the beginning of spring training. And instead of causing greater damage, they were smart about it and said, let's just get this right. You don't want to hurt your shoulder to a severe extent.
Starting point is 00:31:14 So just getting the pulse and demeanor from Bobby himself, yes, he's not happy about being on the IL. Yes, this is not ideal. But also, it's good that he did not try to push through. and like I said, create more damage. But he's not throwing from what we understand right now and certainly not off the mound. You need Bobby Miller more so in the second half of the season that you need him in April.
Starting point is 00:31:40 All wins matter, but hopefully more in October. I would be remiss if we don't circle back to a little bit of show, hey, Ipe Talk. Dave, you follow this team. What was your sense of, you know, your finger on the pulse there in that faded day where all the news kind of dropped and how did the clubhouse react?
Starting point is 00:31:59 What was your reaction and some of your peers around you? Well, honestly, Clint, they kept it very close to the vest, all of it, leading up to it. Nobody really knew outside of the news outlets, ESPN and the LA Times, that were working on this story. But there seemed to be kind of a circling of the wagons where the players and everybody else in the organization just raliener, rallied around Shohei because of this nefarious deeds that Ipe was up to. And I know there was a lot of skepticism at first, but it seems to be kind of a behind the Dodgers
Starting point is 00:32:41 and behind Otani. He's done really since day one, an incredible job of compartmentalizing things and just focusing on baseball. Think about what he's gone through since he joined the Dodgers, right? He's described his relationship with each. as a brotherhood in the past. He's betrayed by him. There's a lot of people publicly that don't believe that he was not involved. He's coming off elbow surgery just five months ago. He announces to the world that he's married and he's still able to perform. I mean, you look at what he's done
Starting point is 00:33:16 so far. He's one of the best hitters in baseball still. I'm not sure too many guys would be able to focus on the game and be able to be able to perform the way he has. So I think that has been the most underappreciated thing about this whole situation and just him becoming a Dodger. I mean, on top of all the World Series expectations and talks, all that other stuff in his personal life happened. Yeah, he can compartmentalize like the best of them. All I care about is his dog. I don't care that he got married. I'm just in love with Decoy and I just I just want to hang out with Decoy. I don't even care if I hang out with Shohei. I want to hang out with Decoy Otani. Dave, the Dodgers, when opposing teams play them, it seems like that's a measuring stick,
Starting point is 00:33:59 if you will, for teams that are playing the Dodgers. This is a big series this weekend against the Atlanta Braves at home at Dodgers Stadium. Is this a measuring stick for the Dodgers? They're usually a measuring stick for other teams. Is this one for them? I feel like it's for each other, right? I'm sure the Braves want to see what the Dodgers have with Otani and Teoska Hernandez fitting in with these group of guys. And at this, the last time the Dodgers and Braves faced each other was last September, right? And we were talking about possible NLCS matchup. Well, it hasn't come to fruition the last two years because both teams have been knocked out in the NLDS.
Starting point is 00:34:37 So we're all hoping, you know, we get to see these two teams on the big stage this year. And last September when they played each other, it was kind of, who's going to win the MVP. This series is going to sway voters, even though it probably shouldn't have one way or the other for Ronald O'Cunia Jr. and Mookiee Betz. And at this point in time, Mookiee Betts is having far and away the better season than Ronald O'Cunia Jr. So I feel like for both these teams, you know, there's always these spikes in a long season where you get up for games a little bit more than others. I don't know how you could not get up for this game. And certainly the atmosphere at Dodger Stadium is probably going to bleed onto the field.
Starting point is 00:35:20 And going back to Otani, right? Everybody felt so bad about Otani not having big games to play in or playing in the postseason. Well, let's see what he does in these three games, because it will be October goosebumps in May at Dodger Stadium. So let's see if Otani can deliver against the big bad braves. Yeah. I love you, Dave. I just love you. Where were you during the B delay?
Starting point is 00:35:50 I had to do two hours of Dodger talk during the hour and 55 minute B delay. I was sitting there getting ready for the game and the guy covering the Dodgers for MLB.com at Chase Fields like, oh boy, we're going to be here for a while. I said, what? You said, you see that? Bees. There's bees right there. I'm all like, is that really an issue?
Starting point is 00:36:11 And it turned out to be a huge issue. And, you know, I have a friend that works at the Tennis Channel, and he said, you're going to be there for a while because we had this happen in Indian Wells in March. And it took an hour and 40 minutes to get the bees out of there to safely vacuum them up and to let them out in another area of Arizona. So, yeah, we were there for close over an hour and 40 minutes. So just come on. That's ridiculous. Matt Hilton is a superstar. This guy is a folk hero, absolute sensation overnight.
Starting point is 00:36:47 He loved it. He lived it up, Dave. He was like, wow, look at me, beekeeper guy. Yeah, I really don't know. He really leaned into it. I feel like, I don't know, there's a lot of eligible ladies out there that were really hot after Matt Hilton. I mean, I'm serious. This could be the most eligible pest control person there is in America right now.
Starting point is 00:37:10 There's absolutely a lot of buzz around them for sure. I don't know which was the bigger story. The beekeeper or are you going down the Milwaukee slide a couple years ago, D.V., but definitely one. I mean, he's a lot better looking than I am. I don't have that chin. But, hey, the cast, you know, chicks dig the cast. We know that one as well.
Starting point is 00:37:31 Chicks also dig Mookie Betts as the starting shortstop for the Dodgers. There were some folks who maybe were kind of against Mookie Bex. as a shortstop for a myriad of reasons. He's never done it as a professional, or at least as a big leaguer, never really played shortstop as a professional. Maybe that beats him up over the course of the season. What do you like about Mookie Betts? And I'll throw it out there.
Starting point is 00:37:54 Is it the right call to just kind of let him run there at short? Well, it's the only call right now. They don't have a better option at shortstop, and that's the reason why he's there. The Dodgers don't believe Miguel Rojas can hold up for a full season physically. playing shortstop again there. Obviously, Gavin Lutz had the huge right knee reconstruction and the throws just were not coming out there. And Lux has been great at second base defensively. So he's the only option. And the very first day of spring train that I saw Muki, all he said
Starting point is 00:38:29 is that I want to redeem himself from the last two years of October failures. And he heard the criticism and he's all about winning and then all this comes up. And now, Mookiee Betts has another chip on his shoulder because he has heard the doubters out there and he is determined to prove that he can play shortstop, not just okay. He's out there literally three hours before every game taking ground balls and doing everything he can to prove the doubters wrong that he could play shortstop. I love it. I would never bet against Mookie Bets. Dave, before we let you go. I wanted to ask you your opinion, hopefully you can still hear me. I wanted to ask you your opinion about Matt Kemp. I mean, we knew that he was done with the game of baseball.
Starting point is 00:39:17 Clinton, hopefully we get Dave back in here. We knew Matt was done with baseball, but he put out a nice message yesterday on social media that said it's long overdue, but dear baseball, thank you from the bottom of my heart. We've covered Matt for a long time, Dave. I've known Matt Kemp way before I was a Dodgers reporter. What's the one thing you'll remember about him? That's the biggest thing I'll remember. I mean, that was one of the most incredible sequel seasons by a Dodger. And I don't feel gets enough credit for what he did. I mean, he was one stolen base or one home run shy of 4040.
Starting point is 00:39:52 He probably should have won the MVP that year. Thanks, Ryan, Brian. Yeah, especially after we found that out. But the Dodgers were in the McCourt Vortex at the peak of that with the bankruptcy and all that. the team wasn't very good. And him and Kershaw were the two best players in the National League. And they just didn't get enough credit for their seasons. I know Kershaw won the Sy Young that year, but Kemp certainly did not.
Starting point is 00:40:21 So when people say Matt Kemp, 2011 is the first thing that comes up for sure. And I know talking to him in spring training or right before, he was so happy that he could have the type of year that he had in 2018 when he came back to. Matt Kemp's special beast mode. I always appreciate my time covering him. David Vassay, you have a gala to get ready for, my friend. And we appreciate you taking the time to be with us today. It's always great to see you.
Starting point is 00:40:51 Nobody knows the Dodgers better. Nobody is respected by their players better than David Vessay. Appreciate you taking the time. We'll talk to you soon. I got news for you, Alana. I don't have to get ready that much. Maybe a shower and just go on. Please at least put on deodorin, especially if you're going to meet Ed Shearin.
Starting point is 00:41:09 Get some deodorant on Vasay. Be better. Okay, thanks. Thanks for you. All right. David Vasay of AM 570 does such a great job on Dodger Talk. All right, Clint, it is time now for last licks. We always appreciate the opportunity to talk about a dog that is in need. This one we've talked about her before, Clint. This is boogie. An interesting situation, though.
Starting point is 00:41:33 She was dumped at a house, basically, in South L.A. in the middle of the night. A Good Samaritan brought her in. Unfortunately, we did not know this at the time, but she is very, very pregnant. So we are looking for a foster. The adopters just not in the position to be able to take her through the pregnancy and the birth of the puppies and all those things. He wants to keep the dog. He's keeping her, but he's just not a position to be able to go through that whole pregnancy and birthing process. So we are looking for a qualified foster to be able to take her in. No cost to you. Gidre's Guardian Foundation will take care of all of it. Just connect with us at giddrees guardian.org.
Starting point is 00:42:08 You can find us on social media. But Boogie needs a nice, soft, clean, sanitary, quiet landing spot so she can have her puppies and we can get her healthy and get those puppies good homes. You know, there's something Bob Barker told us all
Starting point is 00:42:22 while we were growing up, have your pets spayed or neutered. This is why, especially if you're going to dump your dog, which don't dump your dog, be a better human. But if you're going to do that, spay or neuter your pets.
Starting point is 00:42:34 Amen, sir. That's the best thing that Bob Barker ever said. The price is wrong, bitch. All right, Clint Passeas. You have a podcast called All Dodgers. Like it, guys.
