Dodgers Territory - Dodgers Offense Falls Flat, Wastes Superb Ohtani Effort Again
Episode Date: May 6, 2026The Dodgers offense was unable to get the job done once again for Shohei Ohtani, scoring just 1 run in a 2-1 loss in Houston. For his part, Ohtani did more than enough to keep his team in the game in ...another start where he was held out of the lineup as a hitter. What is going on with this offense and is this team maybe not as good as we thought they'd be? Alanna Rizzo and Clint Pasillas break down the middle game of the three game series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all,
embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
On the Look Back at it podcast.
From 1979, that was a big moment for me.
84 was big to me.
I'm Sam Jay.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors.
Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year.
I mean, it was a wild year.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Listen to Look Back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
If we are as good as we think we are, why are we not able to string anything together?
It's a fair question.
Everybody and welcome to a live edition of Dodgers Territory Postgame on this May 5th, Cinco de Mayo, Cinco de Drinko, Cinco de What the Hell is going on?
I am Alana Rizzo. That is Clint Paseas, Katie Wu, of course.
She is off this series. Fobby and our Daya is in Houston, but Katie is still writing some stuff.
So anyway, we're happy that you guys are here.
Make sure you get your comments, your concerns, your questions into the chat.
Also, thanks for being here, but like us, rate us five stars.
Don't forget to rate the podcast wherever you get your pods, whether it's on YouTube or Apple or Spotify,
as we try to make our way to 20,000 subs.
Alex Runtaria already in the chat saying another awful loss.
Yeah, I mean, something's got to give, right?
Also want to shout out our members.
We're getting there.
I know we're tiny but mighty, right? Clint, we're working our way up on the members that we appreciate you guys very much.
We're going to work our way towards a happy hour. Clint and I were just talking about that earlier. 399 a month, it gets you a bunch of different stuff.
We're talking about doing a happy hour that we can figure out a way to make it interactive. But there's a lot of benefits of being a member and we appreciate the fact that you guys are here.
All right, so this is another one, right? So Dodgers versus Astros, it's game 36 of 162.
so many things to talk about, but you, not the offense.
No, I know, I know, but the game is only as good as your starting pitcher.
So let's start there.
Let's talk about Shohei Otani, who originally was going to hit in this game,
and then Dave Roberts pulled that back.
Two earned runs equals the season total for him.
It's his worst start of the season, but my God, the man gets no run support.
So there's two hits early on, and they both accounted for runs because they were solo shot.
So I'm not really putting this on show hey.
No, absolutely not on show hey.
He did as the entire starting rotation has done a whole bunch.
He put his team in a position to win a ball game.
He couldn't participate in helping him win a ball game because he was not in the lineup.
Of course, yesterday before the game, Dave said he's going to hit and pitch today.
After the game said he saw something he didn't like, did not hit, did pitch, looked very good as he usually does.
at least, I mean, when you have all the tools, all the weapons that Cho Hay has,
you generally tend to be pretty good at pitching.
But yeah, you know, just didn't get any help around them.
I think what, Dodgers got just six hits, couldn't string anything together, really.
Was it the fourth inning, I believe it was, the best opportunity for them?
They had the bases loaded, two outs, and couldn't get it done.
Yeah, that's the thing.
That's been a theme with Shohei Otani's starts this year, guys, is that we've talked about,
oh my God, we've gotten our first fire Dave Roberts, Jesus Christ, people.
That's been kind of the theme of this season with Shohei Otani is like there just has not
been any sort of run support for this man.
I mean, again, this has been a recurring theme.
Where is the offense, Clint?
Where is the offense of this team?
We talked about it the other day, whether it was like Freddie Freeman starting to, you know, do things that we thought were going to go in the right direction.
He did have the double tonight, but there's just been zero offense.
I mean, up and down the lineup, it just looks so bleak.
It's just not been good.
I don't know how to pinpoint it, but, and I'm going to throw something out there.
And I don't want everyone like, don't burn my house down.
Okay.
But is this team as good as we think they are?
Are they not as good as we think they are?
I mean, I've not heard of Espinall's name since spring training when we were trying
to get the man on the team and all of a sudden he's in the game.
I forgot he was on the team.
I'm not trying to be, I'm not trying to be funny.
I forgot he was on the team.
Can confirm.
We had the, she had that come out of her mouth as, you know, he was being announced by
Joe Davis there in the ninth inning.
Interesting decision.
You know, I joked with you as well.
It's like, well, there's Dave's first really bad decision.
Not to say Alex Freeland would have got the job done or is better.
But Alex Friedland was already in the game.
So it would have been Alex Paul now.
Leaving him in the game over Alex Freeland there.
Unless I completely missed something.
I'm pretty sure.
Yeah, he was pinch hitting there.
I don't know.
This is one of those games too.
Yeah, he did pinch it for Alex Freeland.
and Lynn call had hit earlier for Dalton rushing.
And also, I do, Dave, Dave has been going a little fire from the hip when it comes to
pulling Dalton.
If this is, I mean, obviously we're, we're a little past the hot open to his season for
Dalton, but he's got more pop than Alex Call.
Granted, Alex Call, RBI, sorry, not RBI, lead off, pinch hit double, ends up scoring after
I text you, like, they really get a fucking blow this.
But still, I find it interesting to take a power bat out of the lineup to just take one more potential option.
I would have preferred Alex Call over Alex Freeland.
Definitely take Alex Call over Santiago Espinal.
Yeah.
So let's talk about a couple of the key defensive plays.
Or excuse me, key offensive place.
Christian Walker, whatever it is about this dude continues to kill the daughters.
Obviously, when he was in Arizona Diamondback, he killed the daughters all the time.
Solo shot in the second, that one obviously off of Chauveh, the first homeowner of the year given up by Otani, 31 innings.
That gave the Astros a one to nothing lead.
And then Braden's Shoemake, which his name pisses me off as much as Ruth's Chris Steakhouse pisses me off.
It's Braden, but then it's shoe make, like you're missing an R.
It's like spelled all funky.
Finish your name.
I mean, honestly.
So a solo shot down the left field line in the third, shortest part of the ballpark that
makes it 2-0.
He's, I mean, again, this is not on Otani.
It's on the fact that there's no run support.
And this is, and to you, Clint,
you and Katie were talking about it,
how you pointed it out.
This is the worst pitching staff in baseball.
It's not just the worst bullpen in baseball.
It's the worst pitching staff in baseball.
I'm not certain, like why, if we are as good as we think we are,
why are we not able to string anything together?
It's a fair question.
And you asked me that just before.
Here we are.
The ERA, this is after the game as well, where they allowed just one earn run over nine innings.
The Houston Astros still have an ERA that is 30th in baseball or first worst in baseball at 5.65.
When they got Lambert out of the game, you would assume perhaps the Dodgers could wake up a little bit.
I guess they did.
They did put a point on the board to upset people with Kyle Tucker.
RBI single there to drive in Alex Cole.
But to the question, like, are they not as good as we think they are?
Yes, I think they are not right now.
And this is not, maybe it's a cop out.
It's not a complete team.
It's not all the guys that we would expect at this point.
You don't have Mookie Betts, who is a big part of that lineup.
Yes, he wasn't crushing it at the time that he exited with that oblique injury.
But still, you feel a lot better when you have your number three or number two hitter
in the lineup. You also don't have Tommy Edmund. You also don't have Kike Hernandez. You don't have
the vibes that Kike brings. And I'm not saying this is a vibe issue, but you don't have all of the
pieces in the right places. And maybe after a month and change, that's catching up to them. But I don't know.
I don't know. I mean, they're not good right now. Yeah, no, they're not. They're not good right now.
And it's funny. I'm looking at as the comments in the chat, we appreciate you guys being involved in
this. We love your opinion.
Maddie Man 5 Dodge 101.
We're not as good as we think we are, perhaps.
I'm going to say this wrong, and I apologize.
M-I-O-644.
Mekio, I apologize.
I don't know.
Why don't you guys just do like John Smith, 1, 2, 3?
There is no rhythm on offense.
So right.
100% correct on that.
I don't know.
No hitting, no pit bull.
Just pitching.
Our girl.
But the no hitting, surprise, we are where we are where we're at in the standings.
And of course, the NOS went on an all-time cold streak altogether.
All five teams, all five teams below 500 or at 500.
That's brutal.
The Dodgers winning those two games was like, oh, my God, these guys are going to the World Series,
which they probably still are.
You look at all the odds makers.
Yeah, they're still going to the World Series, or at least they're getting into postseason.
But right now, it's a tough, it's a tough watch.
It is.
It's a tough watch because it's like you should not be struggling against the teams that we're struggling.
I mean, again, we keep saying this has got to be a get right series, a get right series.
It's like, at what point are we saying, you know what?
Teams are getting right against us.
And that's, that's not a good feeling to have.
There is, Braden Shoemake.
Where's the rest of your name, bro?
Two for three, a home run.
Where is?
Excuse me, one RBI.
That's pretty good.
All right.
Oh, God.
I don't know.
Um, yeah, guys, like, like, find, let's find some positive juju.
we're going to make tonight a shorter episode.
If you guys want continued post-game coverage as well,
my other channel, All Dodgers.
I won't be on it, but Jeff Spiegel, Kevin Skinner,
they're going to be continuing the misery together
after we are done here.
But how about we do this?
Let's clear the palette with the ad that I'm about to put on.
Then we'll come back, take some more comments
and all that kind of stuff.
But here's a quick word from our friends at Fowl Territory.

Very excited to see you with the show.
Kiss all the time, disco occasionally available now.
We're back.
Maybe the Dodgers need some of that to get the, to get the, uh, to get the,
offense up. I was going to walk away. I love it. No, that's a good one. That's a good one.
That's a good one. All right. So let's let's spin it forward though. Let's spin it positive. All right. Positive.
Show Hey did well, right? Um, positive Freddie got a double. I think Freddie is close. I think
Freddy is really, really close. Did you see the stuff about the change? They even mentioned in the
broadcast. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. And Oral and Joe, we're talking kind of like the, uh,
yeah, the front food, the front foot.
turned inward to kind of like seek sauce did it right and as soon as they mentioned it on the broadcast
then he hit that double he just he doesn't want his like his um his front side opening too much
right and clearly you can probably explain it a lot better than i can but yeah because i could see with
your front foot open again we've we had this conversation either here or on my other channel recently
obviously i know a lot about pitching grips and a lot of things i'm a terrible hitter but i can
understand if if your right foot is kind of open a little bit too much as you're trying to plant
And a swing, yeah.
You might, you might collapse on that leg a little bit more,
or roll over a little bit more on that leg.
It might just not be as firm, that firm front side they talk about with hitting.
Or it's just a mental cue that helps him feel better.
Like Muncie, when he was doing the stepback for the better parts of a season and a half,
that made him feel better than he put on the glasses and he became a Hall of Famer and all that kind of stuff.
But listen, whatever helps, you know, he did only end up with the one hit.
coming off of back-to-back multi-hit games.
But he hit it hard.
He hit another one pretty hard as well.
That's stupid.
I really hate the artist formerly known as Minute Made Park.
That dumb-ass deep outfield.
I mean, I enjoy-tales.
You hate, you hate every park.
You hate course field.
You hate Dike and Park.
You hate all the parks.
Listen, listen, listen.
Listen, Linda, Houston is stupid.
He has a stupid ballpark.
There's these random dumb ass.
You remember when you remember fool, d'ankful, you remember when Pueg made the mistake of saying like he's just going to chip shot some homers there over that, that short porch and left field during the 17 World Series.
And then he was just God-awful during that World Series.
I think it does mess with some hitters.
Not short portion left.
Yeah.
A Dikin?
Minimade.
It's right there.
It's very short.
They have the, like, like Crawford.
Not left.
That's left field.
Which way are you looking at it?
Well, to left field.
Where the field is on the left side.
There's their short.
There's the Crawford boxes and then it juts out.
Oh, yeah.
Are all the hand motions helping everybody on the podcast side, by the way?
Listen, I don't know.
Yeah.
All right.
Dodgers aren't good right now.
Hey, how about this?
I think this is a good thing.
Kika Hernandez, he took off.
There's a, there's a palette cleanse for you.
Did you see his, yes, his, his, his, uh, his, uh, Instagram post or whatever he and
Bruzdar.
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, the boys.
Yeah.
See, yeah.
And see right there.
Getting those two boys back in that clubhouse.
I, I understand vibes don't win you games.
Bro, getting, getting, getting, getting Kike back is huge.
Brewster has been out of it first.
And I love him, but it's like he's been out of it for so long.
I don't know what an impact he's going to make.
terms of the vibe but kike getting back is huge all you think it takes well wait when is he i don't
have it handy here i forget when he's eligible to come off the il i think it's somewhere uh around
like may 20th or something if somebody has that uh in the chat let us know but he's supposed to be there
he's supposed to be back and in that lineup i think he said the day after he is eligible he's
coming home and getting in that lineup and we'll be activated
and everything will be happy.
Dodgers go on a heater.
You know what's insane.
You know what's insane about this whole situation
as much as we feel like the sky is falling.
The Dodgers still have, I mean, granted,
give credit to the Padres,
who just sold for $3.9 billion, by the way.
Los Angeles has a one-game lead
and we're not playing well.
We haven't played really well all season long.
I mean, like consistently well all season long.
And this is when you want to have your show.
struggles. You're getting reinforcements, right?
Mookie's coming back. Kike's coming back.
Blake Snell is coming back.
This is good. Yeah, it's a major
understatement. Kenney and Shung six, what a up?
But, um,
I mean, we're still a game in the lead
in the NL West. I have just a
replacement. That's a good stack.
Honestly, it's a good stack. I have never
heard that before.
I love that.
I, vibes above replacement.
I'm putting on, I'm putting that shit on a,
on a license plate somehow. I'm going to put this one
on a shirt as well. Left field is always where it is.
Okay. Listen, cold boy, Cole.
Listen, bro, you guys are being mean to me. I thought he was talking about like a like a
literal little tiny short porch like at Yankee Stadium and right field. I, when I think
of when I think of Diken Park, shut up. When I think of Diken Park, I think of like
Crawford boxes like that's that's what I think. So I apologize. You guys are mean.
It's short. A box is kind of like a porch.
Shut up.
That's not short.
The Crawford boxes in left are not short.
Left field dimensions minute made because that is what it should be.
Park.
I should probably spell that right.
Let's see.
What do we got?
326 to left field.
No, no, sorry, sorry.
It is 315 to the left, on the left field line.
That's short.
Okay, you guys, but I'm thinking of, I apologize.
To your point, you're correct.
I am wrong.
I can admit that.
But to what I was trying to say is when I think of short porch, the phrase, I think, I think Yankee Stadium when it's like 20 feet to right field.
That's, I mean, that's what I think of.
So, okay.
It's semantics.
Yankees.
Look at Denny Cortez, look at Denny Cortez 3720.
Alana is a mean drunk.
First of all, I'm not drunk, Denny.
Jake the Panda, need a shirt with Alana's face and shut up under.
Put that mark.
If Mark is watching, which he's not, we need more merch added to the store and it's just
his face, shut up.
Shut up.
That's a good one.
That's a good one.
Shuddy, shuddy upy.
We got a super chat much earlier in the show from our favorite Terry Hesdickles, 499.
Thank you very much.
calls us the Los Angeles
Confordos. How about Michael
Conforter today? Walk off for the cubbies.
Good for him. You know what? I want, or yeah, whatever.
I want him to have success.
Just not with us. Yeah, yeah. He's a nice dude.
He was there. He showed up.
He collected his money, I guess.
Here's an interesting conversation.
Rake and Bake 3482.
I'm assuming that's March 4th of 82 when that person was born.
Sounds crazy, but the Dodgers have
no identity. Oh, damn, you just took it away for me.
Oh, don't grind. Don't grind at bats, not passing the baton at bat
bat quality at a low for this team. I don't know. I mean, I'm not certain. I think,
I think the identity is a workmanlike identity. Like I say this before and Clint always laughs.
Well, like, grab your, you know, your lunch pill and put your head down and go to work.
But I think we all expected them to just have more flare, more pizzazz, more all of the things.
And they just seem, they just seem flat. They just, they're just, they're just.
just not vibing.
Hey,
vibes come from winning and getting your top, you know,
vibes above replacement guy back with Kike,
but vibes come from winning.
And right now,
you know,
they're having a hard time rattling off a win streak.
You need,
I think you need to say three games as a win streak.
I don't know where you're going.
I'm not,
that my camera's a mess.
I'm held,
look at Vin,
you guys.

My camera was a hot mess.
How about this?
Listen, Dodgers are letting us down.
How about we not let the people down?
What's what's what's what's your go to taco here for this talk
Tuesday on Cinco de Mayo.
Okay, so here's my here's my go-to.
So my best friend Karina, hang on.
I just, I was fixing my pants.
My best friend Karina and her husband Ramon, Martin,
Karina's parents and Ramon's parents were born in Depa, Mexico.
Karina was born in Los Angeles, but her, she has like deep, deep, deep Mexican roots.
and she makes the most amazing tacos.
So she'll go to like a carnaceria in, she lives in Inglewood, but we'll go to like a
carnaceria like close, like it's like 45 minutes from Englewood and we'll go and get all
the meats and all the things.
And like she makes the most amazing tacos.
So those are my, that's it.
Like she's my go to.
What's the meat though?
What kind of carne are we having in there?
Well, I mean, there's everything, right?
There's bia.
Yeah. And then there's like, then there's like, got nasada.
And then there's got nitas.
I mean, it's like all the all the tacos, but she has like, she makes the
authentic. Yeah, we get it all. We get the authentic and she makes authentic mango salsa,
salsa that she like that she does. And it's just no, it's tremendous. Like it's,
it's tremendous. Like she's it's we've done it for birthday parties. Like we've done it for she could,
she should start a fricking taco truck. It's so good.
So I won't get invited too, huh?
Yeah, I like Rosman's idea here.
Rosman says, let's get some Alpastore tacos.
Yeah, Alpastard.
You know, for a long time, I was always a guy that would go to the taco truck and, and I'd be like, I'm going to base the quality of this truck on their carnaisada.
And now, as I've gotten on to my old age of 40, pause for effect, it's the Alpastro.
Judge them based on their Alpastro.
but that's what I do.
What about this?
Where are you at with cheese on tacos?
Let's say it's a quesa taco though.
So here's the deal.
All right.
And this is like this is true like legitimately authentic.
Okay.
So I am I am Cuban, right?
So I was my mother is born in Cuba.
My dad is Italian.
Like New York Italian.
My mom is Havana.
That's where all the anger comes from, guys.
Both?
No, it's like both, right?
So I didn't grow up eating.
So like I didn't really know what tacos were until I moved LA.
And then I started.
So Karina became my best friend in essentially 2014 when I started working with the daughters.
And she was my, are you, are you not even listening to me?
Are you looking down at your phone?
No, I'm ordering dinner.
Oh, all right.
Yeah.
So anyway, then Karina came into my life and I realized like what real tacos were.
So there you have it.
Now that's like the only taco I want to eat.
I want to eat. Somebody clip that. I want to say, I am offended at Alex Rennaria right here.
Says I look like the guy that orders the plain carnage sale of the tacos, just like the little kids.
No, no, no, no, contola. Everything, give me, give me like the grilled onions on the side as well.
I go hard. I go hard, bro. I love food. All food. I'll eat all food. I don't care. I love it all.
you know i feel like uh i feel like the dodgers were playing better we wouldn't be having this
conversation guys somebody asked what i just what i ordered like sometimes it's okay just to have a
conversation and this is why i think you should become a member because like we could just
have a conversation is there a way that like we can get all of us like interactively just chatting
probably definitely could do like a zoom thing like you were saying i mean this this is this is like a
poopy game so this is a poopy post game like I mean it is what it is we're
just going based on we're bringing the vibes we're doing our best look it maybe
alana is a little tipsy I have one glass of wine and people think I'm hammered
that's annoying what does that say about my normal personality I don't know
Richie says taco truck at the divorce man cave he got he got one in he got one in I
could always I could always oh wait I didn't I didn't post it to the screen I
I could always trust my guy, Noah.
He clipped that for us.
And then, yeah, we got the dollar 99 from Richie to make sure that it is on the screen.
Diane asking, what's for dinner?
Is it baconators?
No, no.
All this talk of tacos made me want some Nashville hot chicken.
So I ordered legends from down the street.
That makes no sense.
Yeah.
That's like the least Cinco de Mayo meal ever.
I don't subscribe to your little holidays, people.
Listen, man, I'm not Mexican.
And by the way, single de Mayo is not even a thing in Mexico.
That's like a bullshit American.
Did you see those fucking tacos from Oklahoma City Comets?
Sorry, tacos.
White people taco night.
They were so embarrassing.
It was like a flour tortilla with ground beef and not even like not even slightly melted.
That's how I used to make tacos when I was like in college because I didn't know.

Another podcast from some SNL,
late night comedy guy,
not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week,
my guest,
SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel,
help an acapella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all,
embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put it.
on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble
stopping the muscle growth.

A win is a win.
I don't care which I'm saying.
Yep, that's me.
