Just no lead was safe here. Hey, and welcome to this live post-game edition of Dodgers territory on this Tuesday evening, August 18th, Clint Paseas. Alana Rizzo alongside you guys, Katie Wu, is obviously getting ready to go into the Dodgers Clubhouse on what is a back-to-back win. over the Colorado Rockies in Denver. You love to see it. You will take an 11 to 5 win yesterday. You will take a 7 to 6 win today.

albeit that one was a little close. That one was a little close, but they get the job done. Game 127 of 162. We're going to get into the bad, but we're going to get into the good first. All right, Clint, your biggest takeaway,

we have talked at length of the offense needs to wake up. It seems like the last couple of days they've done that. Yeah, get right series in Colorado. That's what this place was invented for. Let the offense wake up somehow, some way. You mentioned it there. You know, 11 runs yesterday on 14 hits. And then today, seven runs, 10 hits. This was every bit of a Colorado, you know, a Coors Field game. Just no lead was safe here. You saw Hunter Fedusha get sick at Colorado just because it's. you know, a terrible place to play baseball, but I had opined yesterday in my all Dodgers show. This was the perfect place for the Dodgers to go right now. This is a place they needed to be. And I'm always somebody who hates Coorsfield, never want to see the Dodgers go there. But the offense wakes up a little bit. Show, hey, back-to-back games with homers. Tay Oscar with some offense in there. You got Tommy Edmund as well.

Even Kyle Tucker remembers how to drive in a run with a base hit. It's, um, I like these better. Yes, these games are better. This offense is better. This is what we like to see. I'm so grateful that Kyle Tucker had that knock, um, because we talked about it at length on Monday about how he's just not so far living up to the contract that his personality doesn't lend itself, um, to get a lot of adoration

because he's not a rar, raw guy and then just the numbers aren't there. But I saw when I saw him yesterday, sitting in the dugout, Clint. And he was just, he looks so dejected and so sad. And obviously dropping the pop-up that was a routine play and those types of things. I just felt badly for him. I really did. So today it was really great to see him get off the Schneid, if you will. I'm not certain what is going to happen moving forward.

If they are going to give him a blow in some capacity. But it was good to see it. It was great to have daughters get back-to-back wins. I will take that all day long. I was very confused about what was going on with Hunter Fedusha. I didn't know if he had to use the restroom, but apparently he got a little sick there, so there had to be a little bit of scrambling

in what is already a thin position for the Los Angeles Dodgers at the catcher spot. So apparently he's sick of Colorado, is he not? Yeah, I mean, aren't we all to some degree? I mean, the offense is out right now. But yeah, it was an interesting situation. had heard somebody or somebody told me that he might have thrown up on the field. I didn't see anything about that. I didn't see anybody scrambling to try to clean up the field.

But yeah, yeah, Benny Biceps forced into duty. And, you know, I'm just to throw it out there. A big Ben Roartfit guy. But the Rocky started scoring again after they switched catchers for what it's worth. We're not going to put this, of course, on Ben. He's not the guy who's calling every damn decision there. But yeah, this is the, I want to go back to the Tucker thing. The dugout kind of erupting.

Dave, you're seeing Dave, given the, you know, the applause there. That was definitely, you know, you would love to have seen them chip in one or two more knocks in there. But still, getting anything, producing offensively, you know, you actually saw a little bit of hustle. I don't want to call it try hard hustle, but, you know, they're late in the game trying to, in that ninth and he trying to, to cut a ball off and, you know, limit a runner, keep a runner at first base. Unfortunately, that runner was just fast as hell, so couldn't keep him from second base. But, you know, you saw a little bit of a, I don't know if it's fake hustle, but you saw something a little bit different out of Kyle Tucker today.

I think that that hit does help him a little bit. We probably, as much as I was saying on my show last night, like, and even Eric Harris was mentioning in the broadcast yesterday, might be mental reset time for Kyle Tucker. I don't think the Dodgers do that. We have seen so many players, countless players, kind of go through things over the years, Riz. And that's just not their M.O.

You know, you can think back to, like, Agon, when he kind of gave himself a mental reset, I think in 2016, said, I'm going to take three games off, get my swing right, and then he came back and started killing it. I think, you know, Agon is not quite Kyle Tucker, but, I don't know, maybe, maybe just, Kyle Tucker is not, I mean, Kyle Tucker's not quite, Egon at that point in his career.

But I do think the weight of the world is on the shoulders of Kyle Tucker right now. And again, I'm not making excuses for him. I don't know him. I have not spoken to him. I don't want to put words in his mouth. But it seems like baseball is just not a lot of fun right now. And I think hopefully that R.B. or that knock will get things going for him. Hopefully can take a little bit of a breath and realize that he just got to go back to basics.

because, man, it just seemed like he was, I don't know that I've oftentimes seen a player that dejected sitting by himself in the dugout after having already been benched earlier in the week from lack of production and just maybe a mental reset that's been needed, kind of having tears in his eyes, you know, kind of wiping his eyes and those types of things. I felt bad for him, and I'm glad that he was able to get the knock today. So good for him. Hopefully this turns is just something that is, you know, positive and productive moving forward. The win today, Clint allowed the Dodgers to be a game and a half ahead of the Braves in sole possession of that number two seed in the National League. Still behind the Milwaukee Brewers, but hey, I'll take it, right? That's big. You mentioned it.

It's huge. Do you see that just insane score brewers crushing destroying? Oh, my God. Is it like 22 to nothing or something like that? What? Like, I don't know how you would sit and watch that game as a fan of the Mariners. Like thoughts and prayers. Or of the Brewers.

Or of the Brewers. They're fun. Honestly, they're fun. Like, do you remember that one, that one opening day? I think it was 2019. They hit like eight homers and they scored like eight or I think it was like 14 runs or something like that. That was a fun game. That was a lot of fun.

Of course, them being the Dodgers. But, yeah, this, that's huge. get, I don't say a commanding lead of that two seed, but to have a strangle hold or a little bit of a hold on that buy round, you know, that's big. They, we've talked a lot about it. You can make excuses or you could make a case one way or the other that, yeah, the Dodgers have played in one of World Series as a wildcard team. They have played in one of World Series, you know, having the five days off.

They've also looked really bad in the past, having the five days off. but this is a team that would really, really benefit from having that time off. So just don't let up. You've got three games with the Braves next week as well. You know, you're kind of in the driver's seat with that. Yeah,

I think you are. And again, there's always going to the conversation come postseason rest versus rest. What's the better thing to have? What's going on? It depends on who's healthy. It depends on who is playing really well

going into the break. If they're playing like crap, the break would be great. If they're playing really, really well, you don't want them to stop. Again, it's just, it's so difficult.

The season is so long, but I'll take a back-to-back win to get the momentum started. As you said, it's a get-right series, an opportunity to sweep them tomorrow, and then they have a much-needed day off before they take on the Pittsburgh Pirates back at home, three-game set before hitting the road again, right? So they're not even home for very long. They're only at home for three games. And then it's at the Braves for three and then at the Tigers for three before another day off. And then it's, you know, a long home stand starting with the Cardinals on September 1st.

I mean, we're almost to September, which is insane to think already that it's going this quickly. We have a lot to talk about as far as the bullpen is confirmed. Alana, we've got to talk about the pitching side of things, because Eric Lauer started this game, and I'm not going to lie, I'm a little nervous when we're talking about Eric Lauer starting a game at Coors Field. It was always going to be a little bit of a concern.

You saw him laboring early, could not really put up the shutdown innings after the Dodgers scored. But the good thing is the offense kept givething to him. They kept keeping him and the team in the game. I liked what we saw out of Eric Lauer. You know, I like to compete, as Dave would say there. You know, there was one, the two-run homer. he served up did not like it i think uh you know a little bit of the pitch um you know kind of grooved right down the middle also walking the lead off guy uh entering that frame there but overall

from a guy who probably really shouldn't be here and definitely won't be in the postseason starting rotation might not even be in the bullpen to give the team five innings four earned but that is best stuff solid i'm i'm giving a solid you know solid yeah yeah It's difficult to have your best stuff ever at Corrish Field, right? You said you were a little hesitant to see what Eric Lauer is going to do in Denver. I'm hesitant to see what anybody is going to do in Denver. I love the city. I was born and raised in Colorado, but that is a very difficult place to pitch.

There is not a lead in the world, not even a 22 to nothing lead that the Brewers have or the Mariners right now. That is safe at Corris Field. It's funny. Somebody in our chat, Carl ZZ5GZ was saying, unacceptable to walk lead off. That drives me nuts. when you walk a lead off hitter. So I'm in accordance with what Carl is saying in terms of that. But yeah, I mean, Eric Lauer, difficult as it is to pitch at Coorsfield.

I don't look at this one outing. It was serviceable. Didn't have the best stuff. But four earned runs, one walk, six Ks, I'll take that. But what I do love is the job that Eric Lauer has done for this team since he came over here. I mean, he has been a guy that you've been able to count on. He's been reliable. He's been able to eat up innings.

He has been somebody that will post every fifth day or every sixth day. depending upon if show he's in there or not, that whole situation. But I've appreciated what he has done as far as his role. He's embraced the role. And honestly, I'm very glad he's still here because I wasn't sure if he was going to be here at the trade deadline. We didn't know what was going to happen as far as that. And I thought he was probably going to get moved to hopefully another contender,

but he's still here. He's probably not going to make the postseason roster. But I tell you what, we still need him to eat up innings. as we move forward in this regular season. Yeah, I was somebody who fought. I argued a lot that keeping him around made a lot of sense. Apparently he also argued with the team or stated his case, made his case, to remain with the ball club.

And yeah, he's huge at this point when, you know, Emmett Sheehan was not good. He's back with the club now. We are going to talk Edwin Diaz in a few minutes. But Emmett Sheen was holding up his end of the bargain as one of the the six starters in that rotation right now. So you needed somebody to give you some meetings. And for the greater part, you've had that. You've absolutely had that with Eric Lauer.

I'm seeing where did you go? A lot of people in the chat. The chat is cooking. We appreciate you guys hanging out with us on this Tuesday edition of the show. Sammy B., friend of the show, Sammy B, hanging out with us, saying the pitcher's giving up runs of two outs is becoming a problem. Yeah, pitching has not been ideal. deal over the last kind of two months.

Starting pitching hasn't been great outside of. We talked about it yesterday. Yamamoto's been electric. Roki Sasaki tomorrow starter. You could suddenly throw in that conversation as somebody who's been pretty damn good for the Dodgers. He's actually been very damn good for the Dodgers. I'm also seeing people in the chat worried about Roki Sasaki starting a game at

Coors Field tomorrow. But yeah, the bullpen. Bullpen today was good until it was not. Jack Dreyer with the clean six, two punchies, Edgaro Henriquez, with the clean seventh, two punchies. And then Evan Phillips, the continued struggles for Edwin Diaz, sorry, for Evan Phillips. Does I say Diaz?

For Evan Phillips in there. You got the lead off walk, single, RBI single. Then he got a couple outs, and Tanner Scott had to enter probably a little early, earlier than he anticipated, gets out of that eighth inning. and then, you know, you don't really want somebody having to do updowns in Colorado. At least I don't, but he had to, and he gave up a run in the ninth. Thankfully, they put up enough to survive. This felt every bit of like a survival game.

I mean, that's what it is at Forest Field. It always is every bit of a survival game. And Evan Feld just hasn't had it, Clint, since he's come back. I remember we were very excited when he was re-signed, number one, and then we knew we were going to be without him for an extended period of time until he was able to get healthy and get off of the aisle and become part of this roster. But yeah, he just hasn't been crisp, if you will, and any, for the majority, I hate to, you know, do this broad stroke with the huge brush here.

But honestly, he hasn't been that crisp. He hasn't really hit his spots. He hasn't been able to really keep guys off balance. He hasn't really been able to fool anybody, if you will. It's just not an outing in which tonight, you know, you can see the ERA there, which doesn't always tell the full story, but in 13 and 2 thirds of work, you know, I guess he's averaging more than a strikeout per inning,

which is good, but the ERA is massive. Yeah, and the hits. You know, he's base runners. You know, you're looking at a whip, you know, nearing 1.4. He's given up a lot of base runners and they're scoring. Or somebody else is allowing them to score for him when he's, you know, leaving with ducks on the pond and that whole thing. But yeah, this is somebody that you absolutely need to see kind of get his season on track.

Not even back on track because we have not had an on track version of Evan Phillips. And well, now a couple of years coming off of the surgery and all of that. But yeah, to make sure we're not all negative in a win here, Jack Dreyer looked great. I love them talking to the broadcast about like, you know, he's throwing harder because he decided he's thought about it. Yeah, I'm just to throw harder. Why not? and, you know, use that big, that big brain energy there to just, if I get, let's throw harder. And then, Edgaro, big ending there, like, to have a clean seventh for him.

And we don't, we don't talk enough about him, I don't think. I think, you know, because he's not. He usually starts to suck when we do, that's why. Well, maybe we shouldn't talk about him right now, right? Like, I mean, he really, he's been as serviceable as Eric Lauer has been in his Dodgers starting rotation. Henriquez has been that serviceable for the Dodgers bullpen. He's not somebody that we talk about. It's like his spot in the bullpen is not a sexy spot,

but he comes in and he does his job. And I really can appreciate what he's been able to do for this club, because I'm not certain with the hiccups that we've had of the main guys in the bullpen. If Eduardo Henriquez hadn't done his job for the majority of the season, again, a clean seven today, another two Ks today. He doesn't throw a lot of innings, but when he gets the opportunity, he does the best job with it. Yeah, and you need somebody like that because you don't have a lot of, I guess I'll say,

right-handed pitchers on Dave's trust tree right now that you could really trust. Ed Garo needs to be one of those guys because Phillips hasn't been that guy. And now, you know, I don't know if there was any trust in Edwin Diaz. He was still going to keep throwing him out there. But now the Dodgers are going to be without Edwin Diaz. We are going to talk about that. And by the way, I want to make sure I plug it here. When we wrap here, my buddies over on my other.

just saying, well, you know what? You're not the only one. But we got to talk about it, right? He's on the DL because of neck inflammation. I ask you, are you buying it? The timing just feels really convenient. It feels extremely convenient. Now, if it's real, if it's legit, then it's something that could point to his inconsistency.

They're saying he'll be back this season, but I don't want to see him back until he is good, until he is right. And unfortunately, we're that weird part of the season where you're not going to have a whole lot of minor league season left for him to go out on a rehab assignment. So the ramp up is going to be weird, and he's already had like multiple weird ramp ups this season with the W. BBC with, you know, missing time and then it felt to me like trying to rush back to a degree to make that MET series after the All-Star break and then he didn't end up making it. But yeah, you know, for now, it just further thins out that bullpen. If we're looking ahead at another option that maybe could be coming soon, Blake Trinan, you know, made his first minor league rehab star or appearance tonight for

AAA Oklahoma City. I think he retired two of five batters that he faced, so not great. But somebody, you know, we know Dave trusts Blake Trinen to the end of like the earth and beyond. So I don't, hopefully he's not somebody who just automatically gets to come back if he's bad. You know, like at this point in the season, all of these guys, Diaz included, they need to earn it. They need to show that they have stuff, that they have location. Do you agree? Yeah, but at the same point, you kind of need bodies too.

I mean, if Edwin Diaz is on the IL, if Evan Phillips isn't performing well, I don't know, it's a point. It's just, it's such a mix and match game. You just got to get through every single game any way you can, right? I mean, to get to the bigger picture of getting into the postseason and then trying to set up your 14 pitchers and your 12 position players, the best to set you up to win. So it depends on bodies. It depends on health. It depends on a lot of different things. So he's been, I mean, there's no question that Edwin Diaz has been awful since he's returned from the IL.

Not breaking news there. No, it's not. I mean, I hate to say it. It's like right now, the two bigger offseason acquisitions that we were psyched about, I was definitely psyched about Edwin Diaz. I couldn't believe it, honestly. I was psyched about him. But so far, Edwin Diaz and Kyle Tucker have struggled. You know, I'm not saying anything that anybody doesn't know.

Hopefully they figured out and turn it around. Some good news, though. Let's talk about that. As the Dodgers won the game today, guys, we're not trying to be negative Nancy here, but Shohei threw a baseball. And that's exciting to hear that Shohei's working his way back to get back pitching. Show Hey, through another bullpen session today. That was scheduled.

Dave Roberts didn't have a report on it yet. This was earlier before the game began today. But said, Shoahe Otani gave him a thumbs up afterward. Hey! Otani could be ready for a live BP, which would be another key step. So I'm just taking Shohei going like this as a good sign. Yeah, I was trying to see if I still had that image of all the different show hay reactions to throw up here. I think I might have deleted it.

He definitely is very, what is the word? Not emotional. That's not the right word. Expressive? Expressive. He's very expressive with his facial features for sure. Yes, a lot of memes, a lot of gifs, gifs, whatever the heck. They're called.

But like we said on Monday, maybe we change it to a kazoo. I will say I'm pretty sure I was somebody who was loud and proud about not wanting the trumpets, but we digress.
