I'm coming up on Dodgers Territory. today, Fabian Ardaya of the athletic. He will be joining us momentarily. Clint, let's get into the big ticket. Let's do it.
Starting point is 00:02:18 And my goodness, we've said this before and you have been on this train longer than I have. I want to give you props for that. Gavin Stone has been everything that we needed him to be. And I don't want to hear that it's the White Sox lineup. I don't care. You're supposed to shove against those bad teams. Gavin Stone, Clint did exactly that. Yeah, Stoner really taking advantage of the situation, taking advantage of a bad team.
Starting point is 00:02:41 But nobody else, I think nobody else is throwing a complete game shutout against the White Sox this season. So let's give some love, get some respect to Gavin Stone. First Dodgers complete game shutout since Walker Bueller back in 2022. First complete game shutout by a rookie since Hunjin Ryu back in 2013. And the first Dodgers rookie to throw a shutout on the road since Hadeo Nomo in 1995. We saw some special stuff out of the kid. And again, he's starting to really. like I think he's getting his footing.
Starting point is 00:03:12 I think people are starting to realize this kid is the real deal. He's tied, uh, with a tied 11th in ERA in baseball. Now fourth in wins because he's, you know, one win off the, the pace of 10,
Starting point is 00:03:25 uh, the major league leader leaders have fun, fun kid to watch and he's just, he's just going out there having fun and not trying to do too much. And you got to appreciate that. No doubt about it. And it's crazy to think where this team would be without the services of Gavin Stoneclint.
Starting point is 00:03:40 Remember, this is a guy that didn't even make the opening day roster as far as being in that five-man rotation. I mean, he kind of lost up the spot to Michael Grove and here we are. I mean, this may not have been an overreaction by Blake Williams saying back on March 19th of 2023, I don't want to overreact to spring training, but Gavin Stone might be the best pitcher in history. I'm not willing to go that far, but I can tell you what the injuries that this Dodgers rotation has sustained, not only with who they had and, you know, obviously Yamamoto going on the aisle, but the guys that they're still waiting to get back.
Starting point is 00:04:10 I mean, Gavin Stone has been a very nice stopgap. Yeah, I've argued a couple of times already on this show. Arguably, the most important pitcher to this Dodgers team this year, just with all of the headaches, the concerns we knew they were going to push Walker Bueller back to open the season. Clayton Kershaw wouldn't be back until after midseason. You didn't really know what you were going to have with Yamamoto, all that kind of stuff. And for this kid to step up, the way he had.
Starting point is 00:04:38 as you know another thing I've been barking about what have I said this is an all-star campaign we're seeing from this kid did he boost his all-star resume in your opinion was this it I mean I think so I mean who else are you I mean you know here's what I was thinking to you when we were having our production call earlier today I was thinking all right well Tori Lavello is the manager right for the national league side of the all-star game as he should be he took his team to the world series last year so he gets to choose who's on the team right I mean if Gavin stone doesn't get voted in, but pitchers don't, really. You know, who it's going to be up to Lavello and David Bell, I think, right,
Starting point is 00:05:15 to pick who's on the team for the National League because he's a Dodger, because he's in the division, does Gavin Stone get snubbed? I mean, Tori Lavello is a wonderful man. He's a very honorable man, but I don't know. I mean, I don't know who he's going to pick. I'm assuming he's going to pick everybody he can from the Diamondbacks, as far as the pitching staff is concerned. But if you look at the numbers by themselves, Gavin Stone has been tremendous.
Starting point is 00:05:38 And the throw in the fact that he's a rookie, I mean, it certainly warrants the fact. Of course, I think, you think he should be there. But the numbers speak for themselves as well. We also know, though, that the All-Star games are popularity contest. Yeah, one thing, I would argue the biggest thing working against Stoner for that All-Star, a spot on the All-Star team is it's the Los Angeles Dodgers. They're already going to have five or six dudes representing the team. Of course, Mooky Betts is leading at shortstop, will not be playing in the game.
Starting point is 00:06:04 game, but he will still be, you know, honored. You'll probably see Yamamoto be honored, potentially. You know, we argued a couple weeks ago about getting our friend high leverage honey bun, Evan Phillips onto the roster to be polite about it, guys. But Stone deserves it, and that's the only thing. If there's too many Dodgers already on that all-star roster, that would be the thing that keeps him off. But what we're seeing, the stuff, the poise, the numbers say this kid deserves to be on that all-star. roster. Yeah, it's going to be tough to get Honeybun on there. I mean, closers are tough to get to the to the all-star game. I mean, relievers, but we'll see what happens there. You know, there's some
Starting point is 00:06:42 comments that you saw them popping up from folks that are following us here on Dodgers territory, not only on YouTube, but wherever they get their podcast that, you know, Dodgers Stadium would go nuts if Gavin Stone changed his walk-up song. What is it, Tone's cold Steve Austin? I don't know. Can you bring up that tweet again, Jeremy, our producer? And, you know, I don't know, he's just incredibly deserving of what, here we go. Kenny Chen, Dodger Stadium will go bonkers of Gavin Stone's walk-up song, which switched to Stone Cold, Steve Austin's. He's a good, he's a good, good pitcher. We need him. My goodness, he's been tremendous. And again, I don't want to hear it that it's against the White Sox. I mean, what's worse? He shoves against the White Sox or he gives up 10 hits against
Starting point is 00:07:25 the White Sox. You know what I mean? Like, you're damned if you do, you're damned if you don't. So good on you, Gavin Stone. We are super duper proud of you. Fabian Ardaya of the athletic is going to be joining us here momentarily. Coming off of his honeymoon, I feel like Fabian was on his honeymoon for about six weeks. He's going to be with us coming up. Okay, your boy, McGee Roe, we got to keep talking about it until the streak ends. Clint, we got to keep talking about it.
Starting point is 00:07:52 Miguel Rojas, doing what he does best and leading the Dodgers to wins, as long as he gets a base knock. But how fun has this been? The veteran stepping in for the injured Mookie Betts playing every day. He's hitting 303 since taking over at shortstop every day for Mookie Betts. But also, he's fully aware now of this streak. He admitted it's kind of one of those things where it's in the back of his head a little bit. He knows, like, I got to get a base knock just so we can get the win.
Starting point is 00:08:22 At some point, maybe things will crumble. I saw, there was a comment I had on my show that I absolutely hated just because I felt it so deeply. But it's like, this is one of those streaks that's going to last for the entirety of the season. And then immediately crumble in the postseason. And I was like, no, get the bad juju out of here. Get that stuff out of here. Just keeps on doing it and playing a hell of a defense at a stop. We can still cuss because we're not on ballets yet and we're not on sports net all yet.
Starting point is 00:08:54 So get that shit out of here, okay? I don't want that stuff crumbling, okay? I don't want any negativity on this show. Fabian Ardaya, fresh off of his honeymoon. Hello, hello. I'm Malcolm Gladwell, host of Smart Talks with IBM. I recently spoke with IBM's new director of research, Jake Gambata. We discussed his vision for the future of quantum computing.
Starting point is 00:09:17 At IBM research, what we always do is answer what is the future of computing, whether it's coming up with new algorithms, coming up with better AI, coming up with quantum, or coming up with just how do different accelerators go together. It's our DNA to answer the question of what is the future. Isn't it a perfect problem for IBM because you kind of need to have a legacy of building stuff? Yes. Building actual physical machines. Yeah, it's why I came to IBM.
Starting point is 00:09:46 I wanted the experience, the culture of building, hard things that others have not done before. Where do you imagine we are in the timeline of this technology? There will come a point when it will mature. Right? My cell phone is a mature technology at this point. How far are we from that point with Conton? By 2029, we'll build the first fault-tolerant quantum computer.
Starting point is 00:10:14 That is one that can run a very, very large, large problem. To learn how IBM is building the future of computing, visit IBM.com slash quantum. I can't do it today. I already have plans. Something came up. There are a million reasons to put off a cancer screening, but one reason to keep it.

Starting point is 00:11:26 Monday at 8 on HGTV. Joining us now, of course, does a tremendous job covering the Los Angeles Dodgers for the athletic. Before we get into baseball, sir, how was the honeymoon? I don't need that many details, but I do need a post-honeymoon report. That's great. Fiji's beautiful. It's very humid, though. I think my body still took a couple days to get used to being out of that humidity. It was beautiful.
Starting point is 00:11:48 I love Fiji. It was great time. It's so funny. I was texting you. Hey, can you come on the show? Hey, can you come on the show? Hey, and I'm like, crickets. Why isn't he texting me back?
Starting point is 00:11:56 And I was like, oh my God, he's on his honeymoon. I totally forgot. So congratulations to you. Thank you. And the misses, we're happy that you have, we have you on. And Clint and I have been on the show now for eight minutes, and we haven't talked about show hey yet. Can you believe that?
Starting point is 00:12:09 I mean, this guy, is he underrated, Fabian? I mean, when he's on the streets like this, sometimes. I feel like when he's sort of red hot like this, there's very few hitters that really can compare. I know obviously Aaron Judge has been on the tear for the last couple of months, but Shio Otani, I know it's 10 straight games now with a run batted in, leading the league in OPS. He's been dominant ever since sliding into that leadoff role, and Dodgers have kind of needed it. They kind of need people to step up, and he's been the guy who's been doing it lately.
Starting point is 00:12:37 Yeah, Fabian, obviously you've covered this guy for the majority of his career, if not the entirety of his career, of course covering the Angels before, coming to the Dodgers now. You mentioned already. You've seen hot streaks from Shohey Otani, but something seems to, be a little bit different. I don't know if it's putting on the Dodger uniform, kind of really finding his home, his footing in real L.A. I'll kind of throw that out there. Is it, is it the lead off that's helping him? Is it, or not even helping him, but kind of boosting the offense? Is it the fact that, you know, pitching is kind of on the back burner? What has made him that much better from a guy
Starting point is 00:13:14 who was already an MVP? I think some of it's just maturation as a hitter. I think he understands. You talk to guys, maybe certain points in their career where, like, they, you know, physically they're in a locked-in good spot. He knows the league really well now, especially because he's gotten over some of the adjustment to the National League. The thing that's stood out to him, not just during his hot streak while years, he's striking out less than ever, which is probably the biggest thing for him. He's always been a guy who there's been some swinging miss to his game, because he's a very aggressive hitter. He's gotten a little bit more selective. He's drawing a few more walks. He's swinging and missing less often.
Starting point is 00:13:46 That's going to help him because every single time he makes confidence. contact, he's going to hit the ball really hard. So he's just a really good spot with his approach right now. I think that's the big thing that Dave Roberts has kind of harped on since the beginning of the season, even when he's gotten through cold spells. Like, all right, it's all about getting him back in the strike zone. That's more important for Dave Roberts' eyes than Otani's swing, which is where Otani tends to drive his focus. But it seems like he's a good spot with pitch selection and everything like that. And I think as long as he continue to strike out, like only 19% of the time, like that's a really dangerous hitter, just knowing that what he can do when he puts the ball in play.
Starting point is 00:14:21 To piggyback off of what Clint was just saying, Fabian, do you think he's having this type of offensive success because he doesn't have to focus about pitching every fifth or sixth day? I'm not sure. I think it's one of those things where I think going into the season, I thought it would go the other way, just considering the track record the last couple times where he's had to only hit, is hitting his sort of taking a little bit of a dive just because he's a guy who focuses so much on his crap. It's been described to me.
Starting point is 00:14:45 Like, he kind of needs that outlet. of pitching. He needs that outlet of doing something else to keep him from hyperfixating on his swing. And that was the thing for him in 2019, especially in 2020. And I think that was part of the reason why they sort of had him like, all right, you're going to have like an outfield risk club. But you have my first baseman's mitt in your locker this season. That might be something we try with you just to mess around, but also just keep your mind off hitting for a little bit. But clearly, when his mind has been on hitting, he's been hitting the ball really well. obviously the pitching is still important to him.
Starting point is 00:15:17 It's something that's still part of his rehab. He's still throwing every other day. I think he's out to 90 feet now. That's still something that's what the Dodgers are paying for. That's still something that he's hoping to get back to. But yeah, it's certainly been really encouraging how he's looked as just a hitter so far. And we just saw the stat on the screen. We've seen a record-setting performance.
Starting point is 00:15:35 10 games with an RBI Dodgers record could set a new Dodgers record this season by breaking Sean Green's 49 home run pace that he put up back in, what was it, 2001, 2002. How do you get Shoahatani out? I understand you just put out a column about it. What are people thinking? What do Dodgers pitchers thinking about? How do you get this dude out when he's on fire like he is?
Starting point is 00:15:57 A lot of it's hoping he gets himself out. I think that's the biggest thing, like, he's going to hit it hard. He just hope it's at someone. I think the thing that kind of struck me that sort of inspired is like early on the season, they kind of ask Dave Roberts, like sort of how, if there's anything you've noticed about how they pitched him, it's like, yeah, up in the zone. We tried that once. We quickly went away from that.
Starting point is 00:16:17 So they're all right. Let's see how these guys have attacked him in the past. And a lot of it's sort of, obviously, guys are going to have holes in certain points of the season, so like that. Mark Pryor kind of described it as like the 20, 21 NLCS, when Freddie Freeman, then played for the Braves, started the series 0-4-7 with 7 Strike House. The Dodgers felt like they had found something until they didn't. And he had a home run, and he was red-hot the rest of that series. So a tiny guy who's going to close up a lot of the holes.
Starting point is 00:16:43 that you can sort of find in him over a short sample. And I think he's at a point where he's matured enough as a hitter that you can't really have one way to get him out. You kind of have to make some match, try to keep him off balance. And at the end of the day, hope that either you get him out that time and he doesn't come back around and make the adjustment or that he hits a hard at someone. The insanity to think that Shohay Otani is underrated, Fabian, but if you look at the numbers that he's on pace for coming into tonight's game,
Starting point is 00:17:09 it's pretty crazy. And, you know, we talk, of course, about Aaron Judge Lerner, lot as we should. He's, you know, he keeps going this way, a future Hall of Famer, but he's on pace for some ridiculous numbers, meaning Shohei. I mean, almost 200 hits, 41 doubles. I mean, this guy hits for average, he hits for power. You can see the RBI's there, the runs that he's going to score, especially if he's in that lead-off spot until Mukki gets back and even perhaps after Mookie gets back until Mookie gets his timing again. Plus, he can run a little bit with 32 stolen bases. It's just, to me, it's like maybe it's because Shohay's quiet, but I don't know if we're
Starting point is 00:17:41 making enough of what he's doing. Yeah, I mean, it's really impressive. And I think it's curious to see, like, how it looks when it comes to the MVP conversation later on the season. I know Ken Rosenpels talked about this a lot, just sort of how complicated it is to vote for a guy who's strictly a DH. No strictly DH has ever won the MVP award. But there isn't a lot of challengers in the National League right now that are clear, obvious challenges to Otani. I think as long as he continues to maintain this gap, obviously it's going to be an interesting conversation down the stretch because obviously he's not helping. defensively the season. He's not pitching the season, but just everything else that he has brought,
Starting point is 00:18:17 the base running, the offense, the slug, the batting average. He's online to be a batting champion right now. All this stuff is obviously helping boost his chances and helping boost the Dodgers chances. The lineup has relied so heavily on him over courses of the season, obviously during stretches where Mukie Betts has carried the lineup. Freddie Freeman has carried the lineup. Will Smith has carried the lineup. But Otani's been the through line that usually when he's, he's spinning the bat well, Dodgers are playing their best baseball. Yeah, I would argue that he goes out there. He wins that triple crown that just about solidifies an MVP unless somebody else steps forward.
Starting point is 00:18:55 Dodgers complete a sweep in Chicago of the, I'll call them lowly white socks. Showing had a hell of a series, of course, as a few other guys, Gavin Stone, we were just gushing about Stoner. But how about Javi the Bat Boy? Would you call him the MVP of the season for saving the $700 million man's life? It takes a lot to get Will Iriton to react that way, and he very clearly was very impressed by that. I think everyone was very impressed by that, but obviously, Havi's a well-liked guy at that clubhouse and even more well-liked after saving Shohay Otani there. I mean, Shohay Otani, he is the $700 million man.
Starting point is 00:19:30 I tell you, Javi, who's a great guy, I mean, he's been a clubby and a bat boy forever. I mean, way before I got there and obviously long after I left. And if Shoah Otani doesn't give Javi a Porsche like he gave Joe Kelly's wife to give to Ashley, something's wrong because he just saved his noggin. He saved his career. He saved the franchise. Will Iyerton's mouth was on the ground. He's like, oh my God, I almost lost my interpreter job. Congratulations, Hobby. You are the man. Let me ask you this before we let you go, Fabian. I mean, this is a situation where let's talk about the deadline. We know that the Chicago White Sox scouts were paying attention to the Dodgers, the Mariners, among other clubs. If you're waving a magic wand, you're Andrew Friedman. Who are you going after? The White Sox specifically, obviously, there's a couple guys that make some sense.
Starting point is 00:20:25 Like Garrett Crochet would make some sense just because he's a guy who has starting experience, relieving experience, lots of years of control, which means to be really expensive to acquire. But that type of velocity from the left side is tough to find, tough to hit at any point. So he's a guy who obviously is going to make a lot of sense. Obviously, a lot of teams are going to have a lot of interesting Gary Crochet. Luis Roberts, a guy who obviously has been kind of linked to the Dodgers for a while, just considering the center field production where that's been, obviously, Andy Pot has has his turned things around a little bit, but Luis Robert has that type of star level upside that makes the lineup even longer.
Starting point is 00:20:57 Obviously, there's injury concerns there and so like that. Also, years of control is still left, and there's just going to be a large asking price. I think teams like the White Sox, one of the few teams that really are obvious selling at the deadline. There's a few of those guys. Tommy Fan makes some sense as well. But yeah, I think the focus should definitely be the bottom third of the order, continuing to address that. I know they did that a little bit of acquiring Cabin Bigio, giving him a little bit of a runway. We've seen what Miguel Vargas has done to sort of help try to boost that a little bit as well. But I think it's that. If you can add some
Starting point is 00:21:28 bullpen help, they'll probably try to do that. And if they're going to add a starter, it's not necessarily to be volume. I think it's going to have to be a guy who's an impactful guy that you can see starting games in October, which considering where they've been, they've kind of taken that volume approach already with their pitching staff and they've managed to make it work even with some injuries to guys like Yamamoto and Bobby Miller and still waiting on Clayton Kirshaw and Dustin May. But I think it's going to be more impact than it comes to volume if they go starting pitching around the deadline. Yeah, I'm kind of curious to, you know, focus in a little more on that. We know what a lot of
Starting point is 00:22:01 people think this team needs. And as the weeks sort of trudge along, the needs feel like they change at one point it was very glaring in the outfield but you mentioned like pa has stepping up i think jason hayward has done a really nice job vargas when he's getting his opportunities the infield has been solid third base a bit of a struggle but all these spots seem to have guys that might come back and help in the rotation you you watch this team day in day out in your opinion what is the one clearest area of need if we're talking one through 26 on that roster i still think it's the bottom third of the order i mean obviously they've picked it up as a which they were kind of banking on like guys like jason hayward he missed like the first month of the
Starting point is 00:22:41 season i think that's a big part to remember uh he's clearly coming around a little bit with the bat uh but it's clear at the corners they're probably going to go platoon uh especially with that hayward spot so if they can have a guy consistently be that short side of the platoon uh they're a guy like tommy fan makes a lot of sense there but or got if a guy like meel vargas continues to produce makes a lot of sense there uh but corner outfield or corner infield guy who can hit in other like left-handed battle, right-handed battle, like a guy who just fits a platoon and can make it, make the rest of the pieces that this roster fit a little bit better would make a lot of sense. And also, like I mentioned, like, if guys continue to produce better and continue to be on the
Starting point is 00:23:21 upswing, that obviously helps make the decision a little bit easier where you can sort of look otherwise. But I think still, I know they produce a lot better lately. The bottom third of the order is still the part that I would look to address. Fabian, the only question anybody cares about is, can we get some L.A. Dodger gear behind you on your background i see arizona state i see women belong in sports which i love um i got a football signed by somebody we need to get you some dodger stuff i mean i know that you guys have to be impartial i get it but let's get some dodger blue up there well luckily it's my wife set up so i'm borrowing
Starting point is 00:23:51 it for the day i'll i'll see what she says fabia and ardaea the newly married fabian ardaa of the athletic thank you so much for being here we appreciate you very much all right thanks for having me some blue gear, Clint. We've got to get him some stuff on there. Hello, hello. I'm Malcolm Gladwell, host of the podcast Smart Talks with IBM. I recently sat down with IBM's chairman and CEO, Arvin Krishna. And I asked him, how can companies use AI to its fullest potential to create smarter business? My one advice to that, pick areas you can scale. Don't pick the shiny little toys on the side.
Starting point is 00:24:32 For example. If anybody has more than 10% of what they had for customer service 10 years ago, they're already five years behind. If anybody is not using AI to make their developers who write software 30% more productive today, with the goal of being 70% more productive. Yeah. So we are not asking our clients to be the first experiment on it. We say you can leverage what we did. We're happy to bring out all our learnings,
Starting point is 00:25:07 including what needs to change in the process, because the biggest change is not technology, is getting people to accept that there's a different way to do things. Starting point is 00:26:36 All right. Let's introduce you to Buck once again. I introduced you to him about a month ago. He is now, he's so much better as far as being turned. He is a one and a half year old Husky. He is neutered. He is healthy. He is fantastic.
Starting point is 00:26:50 He is available for adoption. And he's a good boy. He's active. Need somebody to, you know, an active family, an active person. They need mental and physical stimulation. If you know anything about huskies, you know that they need to be worked and they need to be tired out or they get destructive. But he's great with other dogs.
Starting point is 00:27:08 He's great with kids. He's beautiful. If you have any interest at all in learning more about Buck. Hit us up at giddreysguardian.org or you can, of course, hit me up on Instagram and Twitter as well as Facebook. I know Facebook is a little archaic, but a lot of stuff in the rescue world happens on Facebook. And there he is out for one of his walks. You can also sponsor a walk if you'd like. Our foundation is paying for his walks.
Starting point is 00:27:33 It's 20 bucks a walk. He gets walked in the morning and in the evening. So if you want to do that, 20 bucks goes a long way. All right, Clint, I want to ask you this as we get ready to wrap up our show here. when the Dodgers went to Yankee Stadium, you were like, I don't really, it doesn't matter to me. I mean, I just want to see kind of how they do, whatever. And I have to say that I'm to that point now of the season where nothing really
Starting point is 00:27:57 charges me as far as series are concerned. Like I get that they still have six games against the Phillies and I love that. I will pay attention to that. But the Dodgers are doing what they're expected to do, right? They're winning. And until we get to the postseason, nothing's really going to fire me up. Yeah, I mean, I could understand that. You know, I appreciate you bringing up my thoughts about the, where the team was at heading into that Yankee series.
Starting point is 00:28:24 I didn't have a whole bunch of excitement heading into that. Game one made me excited. But now the rest of the season, there's really just one series you're kind of looking at. And that's probably against the Phillies. That's your next sort of, you know, marker series, tent pole series, whatever you want to call it. There's your measuring stick series because the Phillies are pretty damn good. A whole, you know, three games better record than the Dodgers at the moment. But when you got the Giants coming to town right now, I'm not excited.
Starting point is 00:28:54 And maybe if they were better, it would be a more thrilling series. But the Giants, bad. Arizona Diamondbacks after that. Bad will, of course, talk about that series before our next show or during our next show on Monday. But it's just not a whole lot exciting about this. It's just, we know this team's going to go out and win 98 to 103 games, if not more. And ho-hum, we will endure and survive. But still going to watch everyone.
Starting point is 00:29:22 If I'm still expecting them to win and I'll be pissed when they lose, but I'm just not very, very like, oh, let's show these giants. We need to. I don't care. Yeah, no, you're right, though. I mean, that's our right as a fan, right? We're allowed to get pissed when they don't perform well, but there is an expectation that they're going to win. and when you have teams in your division that are down,
Starting point is 00:29:41 it just doesn't have as much juice. Obviously, Giants Dodgers will always be a rivalry, but there's not as much right now. Let's hear from our friends Eric Crats and Scott Braun on AG1. Crats here from FT. I wasn't feeling as focused as I wanted to be and heard some buzz about AG1. Since drinking AG1 daily,
Starting point is 00:29:57 I felt energized, locked in, and ready to hit the day. Braun here. That's because AG1 is a foundational nutrition supplement that supports your body's universal needs like gut optimization, stress management, and immune support. Starting point is 00:31:03 at drinkag1.com slash vow. That's drinkag1.com. slash vow. Go check it out. You know, I'm going to need Scott to send me some of that so I can, you know, learn to be swole like him. Everything else is swollen and hurting and inflame. But that's a whole other story. I got one feel-good story for us before we do get the hell out of here because it turns out, we make stars here on Dodgers territory.
Starting point is 00:31:30 Alana, I know you saw this. Our friend David Vassay tweeted it. But the Bulldog, Oral Hersheiser, getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which is that's pretty damn wild to know that you're I mean this is one of your good this one of your guys absolutely I know this is one of your guys like how how happy are you for oral oh man it's just so cool I mean you're immortalized right I mean there's so many neat people and people that have done such cool things and and it's not just an entertainment in sports it's all kinds of different categories but to see bulldog get a walk of fame star it's neat I mean obviously he is synonymous
Starting point is 00:32:04 with the Los Angeles Dodgers right I mean he's been in that market forever obviously as a Sy Young Award winner, a World Series MVP. I mean, really, the last World Series MVP that we had before Corey Seeger, and a lot of people want to argue, the last one we've had since it's been a full season, blah, blah, blah. But Oral is, he is the Dodgers, you know, and congratulations to him. He continues to be a part of the team as their broadcaster, and good for him, Bulldog. I mean, you deserve it. And I love it, but how is it taken this long? I mean, can we talk about that for a second? Why, 2020? I mean, the man retired 40 years ago. If he's never going to make the Hall of Fame, which maybe someday somebody will have that
Starting point is 00:32:46 conversation, I think there is a conversation to be made for how important Bulldog was to baseball in that era, was to the Dodgers in the midst of the LaSorda era. Hall of Fame are there, by the way, and also still has a standing record in baseball with scoreless innings, that scoreless inning streak, 59 scoreless inning streak. So if he's not going to make the Hall of Fame, this is the next best thing. And I guess they realized if he's not going to make it, this is how we do it. So it takes a few years apparently to get a star or just him coming on our show. And they're like, you know what?
Starting point is 00:33:22 I saw that. That's what it was. Yeah, it was his appearance on Dodgers territory that really solidified the spot on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. You know what's pretty crappy about that whole situation, though? His oral has to pay for his star. Really? Did you know that you have to pay for your star? that's the only reason you and I don't have one because we don't make that kind of coin
Starting point is 00:33:41 so that's why that's why we don't have one right wink wink wink guys if you want us to afford stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame make sure you subscribe to dodger's territory here make sure you subscribe to the podcast version on Apple on Spotify wherever you get your podcast leave a nice review if you can tell your mom tell your grandma tell the neighbor tell the mailman follow us all I got all right have a good Good afternoon. Have a good Thursday afternoon. Clint does not have his show tonight.
Starting point is 00:34:10 He's going out with the boys to have some cocktails. He's going to have a pregame show, I believe, tomorrow on all Dodgers. And you know what? Clint and I are going to be back with you live on Monday. Have a great weekend. Go Dodgers, kick some ass. We'll talk to you later. Bye.
