Starting point is 00:00:00 Ready for a different take on Formula One? Look no further than No Grip, a new podcast tackling the culture of motor racing's most coveted series. Join me, Lily Herman, as we dive into the under-explored pockets of F-1, including the story of the woman who last participated in a Formula One race weekend, the recent uptick in F-1 romance novels and plenty of mishap scandals and sagas that have made Formula One a delightful, decadent dumpster fire for more than 75 years.
Starting point is 00:00:24 Listen to No Grip on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Clayton Eckerd. In 2022, I was the lead of ABC's The Bachelor. But here's the thing. Bachelor fans hated him. If I could press a button and rewind it all I would. That's when his life took a disturbing turn. A one-night stand would end in a courtroom. The media is here. This case has gone viral. The dating contract.
Starting point is 00:00:52 Agree to date me, but I'm also suing you. This is unlike anything I've ever seen before. I'm Stephanie Young. trapped on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Nancy Glass, host of the Burden of Guilt Season 2 podcast. This is a story about a horrendous lie that destroyed two families. Late one night, Bobby Gumpbright became the victim of a random crime. The perpetrator was sentenced to 99 years until a confession changed everything.
Starting point is 00:01:27 I was a monster. Listen to Burden of Guilt Season 2, on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Being healthy, you're seeing it on the bump right now. This is not a throw-in for this starting rotation. This is legitimate second-best starter in the Dodgers rotation right now. For it's really not a big ask, all I said was going to Colorado and get the sweep, and they did just that.
Starting point is 00:02:06 So the Dodgers are listening to Alana Rizzo. Welcome everybody to Dodgers territory on this Thursday, your host, Clint Paseas, Alana Rizzo here for the next half an hour. We needed to sweep the Colorado Rockies. They are a AAA 4A team. They did just that. Clint, good to be with you. Don't forget, you guys, rate us five stars.
Starting point is 00:02:27 Like, subscribe, all of the things. We have merchandise. We have Dodgers Territory merchandise. It's not this one, but we have Dodgers Territory merch. Go to Dodgers Territory Shop.com or click the store button right here on YouTube and support the show and style. Clint, I love it. I'd not only love this series sweep, but I also love playing Kershaw only three Ks away from the big 3,000. You know, having the Kershaw Day in Colorado, maybe it wasn't as bad as I anticipated or as bad as I was projecting or as bad as I feared, but also sweeping the Colorado Rockies, as you said, needed to happen, should happen.
Starting point is 00:03:05 Terrible team, poorly run organization. The Dodgers did that and they did it with style, up to it including a host. from center field from Andy Pahas to end the game. Padres, sorry, Rocky's going to Rocky, huh? The Rockies are going to Rocky. And there's a lot of comments already. We are so happy that you guys are with us, but Don't Care 187 says, how about that Pahas canon?
Starting point is 00:03:28 Yeah, how about that Pahas canon? I mean, it's been pretty impressive as far as what Andy Pahas has been able to do defensively. I love it. I love the fact that he has stepped up defensively. He's been unbelievable at the plate. Good for him. All right. So where do we want to start with this? Do we want to start with King Kirsch?
Starting point is 00:03:46 Do we want to start with the game? And we've got to start with Kirschild, right? I mean, his next step after this is Cooperstown. I absolutely think we cannot bury the lead here. This is a show. This is the first half of a show, by the way, because we will have first half grades later on in the show. But this is our time to be talking about Clayton Edward Kirschaw. Now three strikeouts away from hitting that illustrious 3,000 mark in his career. Have an outing, Kersh, throwing back. Going back in time here, six innings, two hits, one walk, one earn run, five Ks, only 69 pitches, nice. And finishes his day with 2997, 2,997 strikeouts in his career. There's a lot we can, you know, have a conversation about here.
Starting point is 00:04:31 Like, I don't think we ever see another pitcher hit 3,000 in our lifetimes or ever again just because of how baseball is going. But he was dominant. Like he was throwing pitches exactly where he wanted. It had command of every pitch. And as he usually does, he doesn't come here to get a lot of strikeout balls. Just get him through innings with some weak contact. And he was great. That's the thing.
Starting point is 00:04:54 You do not want hard contact at Coorsfield, not just because of the home runs, guys, but because we've mentioned it on our show a couple days ago, you don't want hard contact at Coorsfield because the gaps are ginormous, right? So there's a lot of doubles. There's a lot of triples there. But what was so beautiful about Kershaw's outing was not just the six strikeouts. or excuse me, the five strikeouts. It was the fact that he was so unbelievably effective and efficient.
Starting point is 00:05:19 69 pitches. I mean, that's pretty dang good. Over six innings. Nice. Just a solo home run early in the game, obviously from Brendan Doyle, whatever, you'll take it. But then Mookie Betts ties the game up and it was the rest was history for the Los Angeles Dodgers. So Kershaw was unbelievably effective. What's up, Mr. John Rod 77 and Super Chat.
Starting point is 00:05:37 We appreciate you. And that is why Colorado has that record. No, Colorado has that record. Mr. John Rod 77 because they are a poorly run organization that is loyal to a fault and doesn't do what they're supposed to do. By the way, Greg Fiesel is stepping down as the president of baseball ops or whatever the heck his title is. And I actually have a lot of respect for Greg Beasel. He's always been good to me. But Walker Monfort, the son of Dick Monfort, is now taking that position.
Starting point is 00:06:08 So there is a new regime in Colorado. again, loyal to a fault. I don't, and this is not, to me, this is not a nepotism move because Walker did start at the absolute bottom in terms of like working his way up. And he is a very smart person. But again, Colorado, again,
Starting point is 00:06:25 I realize this is not Rocky's territory, but Colorado is loyal to a fault. They refuse to go outside of the organization to make changes. And this is why they are a 4A team. That being said, Kershot, you are the frickin man, 3Ks away from 3,000. And Clint,
Starting point is 00:06:41 I really think, I mean, unless barring a catastrophe, he will get at his next outing because, my friends, he is going to be pitching against the Chicago White Sox likely on Tuesday, just based on the fact he only pitched 69 pitches today, right? So he's efficient. He likes going on regular rest. I'll be, I'll say, Tuesday, do you agree with that? Yeah, all signs point to Tuesday for me again. The fact that it was 69 pitches, he loves, sorry, nice, he loves pitching on regular rest. rest. And I also think looking at this series, Wednesday is Yoshinobu Yamamoto Day, Bobblehead Day at Dodger Stadium. I think, one, you have, you celebrate Kershaw hitting 3K as long as you can, and you do that by opening the homestan with 22 on the bump, quickly get those 3Ks out of the way. We celebrate. We have a nice video package. We play to nah, and we have a good time. Then he goes and shuts down the White Sox, and then it's Yamamoto
Starting point is 00:07:39 day all to himself and all that. So I do think, I really, really hope to God it's Tuesday because I already bought tickets during the game here with the plan on scene 22 hit 3K because I need to. I didn't get a chance to get out to the no-hitter game. Sorry, not all of us, had a job with the team at the time. Rest in peace to your dress, I think, at that. That was, that was my shoes, but pretty, that was a pretty, pretty special day back in 2014. Yeah, no, I'm glad for you. You should go to that game. That will be a game to be remembered. And if we still had paper tickets, you should probably save that ticket and frame it. Just go ahead and take a screenshot of the ticket on your ballpark app and put that up on your wall someplace. I'm sure Mrs. FRG will let you
Starting point is 00:08:20 do that. But I tell you what, Hershaw has been, that is true. Hershaw has been such a gift for us to be able to watch over the course of his 18 years in a Los Angeles Dodgers uniform. His ERA is down to 303 on the season. That's pretty freaking good. for a guy that everyone's like, oh, he's done, blah, blah, blah. Like, again, I will, I will defend Clayton Kershot until my dying breath, and this is why. And how about this for you, Lana? Obviously, his first start of the season,
Starting point is 00:08:51 maybe he came back a little early, maybe he had some jitters, maybe he was getting used to all of the new parts, or at least all of the fixed parts on his body, but you eliminate that first start of the season. He has a 2.14 ERA on the season over 33 and two-thirds inning. I put 33 and a third, which would be 34. Anyways, 33 and two-thirds innings. He's not just like getting by.
Starting point is 00:09:14 And they did talk about this in the broadcast. E.K. was mentioning he's like, he's not just getting by on smoke and mirrors. No, this is Clayton Kershaw. This is who we thought. And I think back to, you know, us being out at spring training and you and A.J. talking to Kershaw on foul and, you know, hearing about the knee surgery and the foot surgery. And we heard before how that foot had been. bugging him for a while and the fact that he was able to do that and obviously kershaw is somebody who
Starting point is 00:09:40 always he's had the dad bod for a while but he still is somebody who takes his his his fitness serious and he was a guy who would be out there before anybody running his poles doing all that kind of stuff well obviously he's not going to be in the same shape if his foot's hurting he's not able to do as much so i think that's a huge contributing factor him being healthy you're seeing it on the bump right now this is not a throw in for this starting rotation this is the legitimate second best starter in the Dodgers rotation right now. No question about it. And both E.K. and Stephen Nelson talked about it on the broadcast.
Starting point is 00:10:14 It's like this is a guy that used to do it just with stuff. I mean, this has never been a guy that has just shoved it down your throat, right? He's always been a pitcher. He's not just been a thrower. I mean, obviously he had the devastating curve and all those types of things that foot was bothering him because of those Skechers. You're so ridiculous, Kenny Chung. If Skechers wants to give me a bazillion dollars, I will wear them until the last day of
Starting point is 00:10:36 my life. The point is, though, Kirsch has figured it out. And there's nobody, and they were talking about this on the broadcast today on sports in LA that's like, this is a guy that is an automatic first ballot Hall of Famer, and he is still the hardest worker on the team. He doesn't take anything for granted. He doesn't take anything lightly. And I agree with you that just get it out of the way because Kirsha doesn't like attention, right? So it's like nobody, he's not going to want the fanfare and all the things. And just get it out of the way early against the Chicago White Sox. Yama has the bobblehead night, the next night or whatever. I just love that he's still efficient.
Starting point is 00:11:09 I love that he still gives a crap, which obviously he will always give a crap. And I love that he's healthy. And I can appreciate that. And that's all we want, right? We just wanted him to be healthy. And here he is. And what a blessing it has been to watch this man in this.
Starting point is 00:11:24 I'm sorry, it is. Like we're so lucky. We're so lucky to have Clayton Kershaw on our side for 18 freaking years. Like that's just stupid. And counting. It's special and for him to be good for the overwhelming majority of it. Good is the floor. Great is most of the time.
Starting point is 00:11:46 And a Hall of Famer through it all. Yeah, this is one of those things. I've emphasized it a lot in the past and I preach to Dodgers fans. Do not take any Kershaw day for granted. There aren't that many more left, but we still have some. And I'm excited to see every one of those. And the next one of those, he will hit. 3,000 strikeouts.
Starting point is 00:12:07 And there's going to be a party at Dodger Stadium. Come find your boy in right field pavilion. I was about to say the party is going to be led by Clint Paceas. Don't question that for a second. I'm sure Richie Flores is going to be there. And all of like all Dodgers with Clint Paseas people, they're all going to be there. They might be hammered. They may not be.
Starting point is 00:12:24 But the party will be started by my boy, Clint Paseas. All right. What else are you thinking about with the game? I mean, Mookie hustling? Appreciate that, getting the hustle and getting into game tied. You know what? I do love. Mookie knows how to turn it on
Starting point is 00:12:36 when a pitcher doesn't cover first base. That's just all of a sudden he pulls out a few extra feet of sprint speed and he looks good. I wanted to talk about the series overall. Yeah, it's a very bad ball club. But series overall, I said obviously, kind of, you know, gun to my head,
Starting point is 00:12:54 45 runs scored in the series. It ends up being, I think it was 29 total runs scored in the series. You were 16 short, but no one's faulting you. No one's faulting you on that. I mean, anything could happen. that quarters. Please. Anything can happen at quarters.
Starting point is 00:13:06 And you're right. I mean, so 29 total runs. But we also said, you said this. You said it. I agreed. These were the three that needed to get going, right? Mooki, Freddie, Teo. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:17 And two for three. Two for three. Freddie, I think we talked about it on my all Dodgers show last night, myself and my co-host, Jeff Snyder, we talked about. We think Freddie is pretty close. You saw something nice with an RBI single in the whatever inning it was, I think sixth inning, which the Dodgers. loved scoring in the sixth inning.
Starting point is 00:13:37 But Mookie had himself a nice little get-right series. Teo, for sure, Teo, seven hits in the series, now has a six-game hitting streak. And then Mookie, four hits in the series, has an O for yesterday. But overall, I mean, the Dodgers have to be feeling phenomenal. This is going to be a happy flight to Kansas City. Get in early, go get some banger barbecue out there,
Starting point is 00:13:57 have a good time. By the way, also, Conforto, going to be enjoying that flight as well, had back-to-back multi-hit games in this series. Even McGee Roe had a hit today. Let's just leave him in Colorado. Hang on a second. Let's let's let's let's let's uh let's give him flowers for a second because
Starting point is 00:14:14 McGee row and I put this out on the on on on X. Yeah. Okay. Earlier when I was watching the ball game. Miguel Rojas is in baseball years. Okay. 117 years old in baseball years. And Miguel Rojas started such a beautiful double play.
Starting point is 00:14:33 At third base, I think it was, I want to say it was five, four, three. It was either five, four, three or five, six, three. But the point was he started this double play, and that is not his natural infield defensive position. And he's still making unbelievable defensive plays at third base that I don't know that the regular fan, obviously all of our fans understand. But the regular baseball fan may not understand how beautiful of a double play that was started by a guy who, again, in baseball years, is practically dead. And I can say that because I could be his mom. or at least his older sister.
Starting point is 00:15:05 The point is he's so good defensively. He's so good with the glove. And I don't want people to take that for granted. Max Muncie has done an amazing job at third. He's getting better every single day. And obviously, we know based on this week, obviously that Max can still contribute with the bat, obviously as far as the grand slams and all of those things.
Starting point is 00:15:24 But let's not forget what a key defensive player, Miguel Rojas, is and how instrumental that glove is. And that's why you want him late in the game. that's why you want him in postseason games maybe he's not an everyday player but i'll take that glove over a lot of things so let's please give miguel flowers when it is due and uh you know there's always something special about miggie row uh playing third base with with 22 on the mound something good thanks thanks hanley ramirez for that whole frick it could have been a perfect game if i see hanley i'm going to give him one of these in public but that's a whole other whole other story
Starting point is 00:16:00 We got a super chat also. Don't Care 1-8-7. He's asking, hey, when are you going to come to an All-Dodgers watch party? As soon as you guys actually invite me, because nobody ever actually says, hey, Juan, this is what we're doing. You can't give me a six-hour notice. I live in Massachusetts. So I'm going to need a little bit of time to, like, book a flight, get there, you know, get out of LAX, get to Dodger Stadium.
Starting point is 00:16:22 Like, can I have a heads up? What are you doing late August? We'll figure it out. We're going to figure that one out. Depends on the day. But if you give me enough time, I promise you I will be there. Oh, guys, that's a bona fide guarantee. You guys heard that.
Starting point is 00:16:33 Next all Dodgers meetup, which could also be a Dodgers territory meetup. Alana's going to be there or your money back. But speaking to money, we do have to hear quickly from our friends at Fowell Territory. Then we'll be back. And we got first half grades. And I'm excited to talk about that. But we will be back. People like this last time.
Starting point is 00:16:52 So we're going to do it again. Read one of the fantastic, unique, creative recipes, dishes on how. Hello Fresh. Creamy Alfredo truffle, cavatapy pasta? Cavatapi, maybe. But I'll just go with the Indian-inspired chicken paired with turmeric rice. That sounds awesome. Everything about this is delicious, fresh, comes in a little bag, and I like to cook. So I like to chop up the ingredients. I like to throw stuff in the pan, mix it up. It makes me feel like I'm doing something, Scott, and they always come out. Amazing. Yes, you can be a star at home with America's number one meal kit.
Starting point is 00:17:27 Make your summer enjoyable and delicious by signing up for Hello. HelloFresh at Hellofresh.com slash FT10 FM and get 10 free meals with a free item for life. That's hellofresh.com slash FT10 FM for 10 free meals and a free item in every box. One per box with an active subscription. Free meals are applied as a discount on the first box. New subscribers only varies by plan. I'm Clayton Eckerd and in 2022 I was the lead of ABC's The Bachelor. Unfortunately, it didn't go according to plan.
Starting point is 00:17:57 He became the first bachelor to ever have his final. Rose rejected. The internet turned on him. If I could press a button and rewind it all I would. But what happened to Clayton after the show made even bigger headlines. It began as a one-night stand and ended in a courtroom with Clayton at the center of a very strange paternity scandal. The media is here. This case has gone viral. The dating contract.
Starting point is 00:18:23 Agree to date me, but I'm also suing you. Please search warrant. This is unlike anything I've ever seen before. I'm Stephanie Young. This is Love Trapped. This season, an epic battle of He Said She Said, and the search for accountability in a sea of lies. Listen to Love Trapped on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Nancy Glass, host of the Burden of Guilt Season 2 podcast. This is a story about a horrendous lie that destroyed two families.
Starting point is 00:19:06 Late one night, Bobby Gumpright became the victim of... of a random crime. He pulls the gun, tells me to lie down on the ground. He identified Germain Hudson as the perpetrator. Germain was sentenced to 99 years. I'm like, Lord, this can't be real. I thought it was a mistaken identity.
Starting point is 00:19:30 The best lie is partial truth. For 22 years, only two people knew the truth. until a confession changed everything. I was a monster. Listen to Burden of Guilt Season 2 on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Why hasn't a woman formerly participated in a Formula One race weekend in over a decade? Think about how many skills they have to develop at such a young age.
Starting point is 00:20:06 What can we learn from all of the new F1 romance novels suddenly popping up every year? He still smelled of podium champagne and expensive friction. And how did a 2023 event called Wag Ageddon change the paddock forever? That day is just seared into my memory. I'm culture writer and F1 expert Lily Herman, and these are just a few of the questions I'm tackling on no grip, a Formula One culture podcast that dives into the under-explored pockets of the sport. In each episode, a different guest and I will go deeper into the wacky mishaps,
Starting point is 00:20:39 scandals, and sagas, both on the track, and far away from it that have made F1 a delightful, decadent dumpster fire for more than 75 years. Listen to no grip on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. It's pretty good. It's really good. And I don't know if we've actually used that front end before, but I appreciate how much that makes me laugh. All right. It is the not my problem segment.
Starting point is 00:21:17 And Clint does such an amazing job, like putting this entire show together. Like, let's be real here. like Clint does the majority of the work. I just like show up. But this is something that is very true. The Dodgers through all the injuries, the bullpen games, the recent struggles with the top of the lineup.
Starting point is 00:21:31 They're still 50 and 31, bitches. 51 now. 51 and 31. They have the exact, or they did coming into play today, had the exact same record as the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers were the first to 50 wins,
Starting point is 00:21:43 followed very quickly by the Dodgers, but now the Dodgers are 51 and 31, tops in the National League, which is all we care about, and tied for the most in Major League Baseball through the first 82 games of the season, which means we now have passed the 81 game mark. We are officially at the halfway mark of the 2025 regular season,
Starting point is 00:22:02 which means it is time for first half grades. Clint, offense, go. Offense, I mean, the team leads baseball in home runs, OPS, hits, runs scored, batting average, on base percentage, slugging, and there's room to improve. It'd be so easy to say an A plus. That's because they're doing all the extra credit.
Starting point is 00:22:30 But I got an A minus because we know there's more in there. They're doing this without the top of the lineup right now. Muncie has been killing it. Pah has been killing it. A lot of the bottom to middle part of the bottom and the bottom of the lineup are what's saving the Dodgers right now. As soon as you get everybody firing, Oh, this is going to be a devastating line.
Starting point is 00:22:50 But my friend, my friend, that is the tough part, right? It's the tough part is to get everybody firing at the same time. I think it's kind of like a marriage, right? Which I know you're anti-marriage because I know marriage is the leading cause of divorce. Thank you. But here is my point with this. I think if you always, it's never going to be 50-50, right? So if you have over the course of the 162, if you have, whether it's the middle of the order or the top of the lineup or the bottom of the lineup,
Starting point is 00:23:17 if everybody can do their part at certain times to pick the other person up, it's never 50-50. And in this case, with nine, it's never, you know, whatever the percentage is all the way down, you're never going to have everybody firing at the same exact time. But if you can have the separate parts of the order firing at different times and keep your head above water, and that's what the Dodgers have done. Not one series or, you know, time this season has everybody been like absolutely, I mean, they're not putting up 20 runs a game, right? But that's okay.
Starting point is 00:23:46 You don't need to. You just have to score one more. One more point, as Clint likes to say, and it gets everybody all pissed off because it's not points. We get that. I'm going to give them just a flat A because it's not an A plus because not everybody. But I mean, like this is a team that like when the top of the order struggles, the middle picks them up. When the middle part struggles, the bottom part picks them up. Or when the offense is crap, the pitching picks them up.
Starting point is 00:24:07 So I'm going to go ahead and give them a. All right, rotation. I'll say, no, it's hard to ask your favorite kid to do more like the good kid. No, you have, it's always the oldest that has to do it all. It's like the oldest can get straight A's and then they get an A minus and the parents are like, What's wrong with you? And then you have the middle kid or the young kid that always gets D's and then that asshole gets a C and they're like, woo. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:24:33 There it is. It's perfect. C's get degrees, baby, but pitching. Let's go rotation first. I do want to split up rotation and bullpen and both of them have been perfectly like mid, mediocre. bad-ish. It's been a problem that somehow like they keep winning
Starting point is 00:24:52 ball games. Dodgers keep having I think they lead baseball and come for behind victories with like 40 of their wins or something like that, 40 of their 50-some-odd wins, being of the comeback variety. That said, pitching, I have a C-minus. Really, maybe
Starting point is 00:25:08 should even go D, but for the rotation, it's a C-minus. For, sorry, overall pitching is a 4-2-3 ERA in the season. 23rd best in baseball. Starting pitching is 421 ERA, which is 20th best in baseball, and that is a lot of room for improvement. So I don't even know if that is a C. C minus is what I got on rotation. Yeah, you know, I don't even know how to grade this. This is what I will say, though. It is very difficult when $102 million is on the IL. Like, I don't know what type of grade to give these guys,
Starting point is 00:25:39 but I will say this. Justin Yama says rotation D, double pen C minus. I mean, the rotation because they're decimated. This is not supposed to be the rotation that the the Dodgers have, right? Like, it's not supposed to be this. It's supposed to be Blake Snell and Tyler Gladznow and Yoshinovo Yamamoto, Clayton Kersh, Roki Sasaki, Dustin May. Like, I mean, like, this is not the rotation. So I'm going to give, I'm going to give the results probably a C, but the, you know, the effort and figuring it out, you're going to get a B plus for me because this is not, I mean, I tend to like grade higher on the curve, apparently. Like, I'm always like, rah, raw, but like, honestly, like, think about what this team has
Starting point is 00:26:16 been through. I mean, the fact that they're still 51 and 31 and they lead the league, uh, lead the national league in terms of wins. Um, and they're tied for the best record in all of baseball with the tigers, depending upon what the tigers do today. I don't even know if the tigers play today. It's not the point. But I mean, like honestly, like with the amount of, the amount of injuries, like I'm going to be fine. And the same thing, which is our next topic, Clint is the bullpen. Yeah. Same thing. Same thing. Evan Phillips, gone. Blake Trinen, gone. Kirby Yates was gone. Tanner Scott's been. And, you know, know he's he's better now but like Alex Vessi has not been the same Anthony Bond has not been the
Starting point is 00:26:50 same like Evan Phillips I'm gonna go yeah I said that Evan Phillips gone so it's like you know I again it's very it's it's very difficult to to bitch about a team that's in first place but we're so used to being so good that it's like why are we not one six why are we know what is what's 51 and 31 that would be 82 why are we not 82 and out I mean like I'm in the same thing effort B plus like Bullpen, let me give you a C. Yeah, bullpen has been a little bit better. I think there's been a little bit more consistency there.
Starting point is 00:27:25 427 ERA out of the relief core. That's 21st in baseball, where the numbers that I pulled during the game. But, yeah, I mean, it's like a C plus. They need improvement. Cs get degrees, but it doesn't maybe necessarily get you a World Series championship. And we know they're getting better because you have Kopeck in there. Kirby Yates has been better. Tanner Scott has been.
Starting point is 00:27:46 a lot better. And then other guys coming back with like Emmett Sheehan with even, you know, the rotation getting stronger with Glasnow and Snell returning. That makes, should make the bullpen better. Dustin May likely slides into that bullpen where he should be better. It should be a better role for him just having to throw his two pitches for an inning or whatever. But anyways, that's my point there.
Starting point is 00:28:10 C plus on the bullpen, C minus on the rotation. A lot of room for improvement. maybe they need a like a Twitter or something like that. Let me ask you this. And I just want to bring our chat in here because we always appreciate when you guys participate in this. We appreciate you being with us. But John had this to say in our chat, who was still nervous about Scott, meaning Tanner Scott after that ninth inning walk? And he's not wrong.
Starting point is 00:28:29 Like he's not wrong to bring that up because you and I were talking about that. I was like, okay, here comes in T.S. And not Taylor Swift, by the way. It's Tanner Scott. And it was like, okay, so he comes into the game. And then he has that walk. And I'm like, you know, I'm still, I'm still a little bit hesitant. And again, it's going to take some time of some consistent, like even if you get traffic on the basis,
Starting point is 00:28:50 shutting it down for that idea or that feeling to change. He got it done today. And that's fine. But John has a good point. Like, there's nobody really that comes out of the bullpen right now, no disrespect to any of them. But no one's like, oh, my God, it's like only Stanley Jansen or, oh, my God, it's Mariano. Or, oh, my God, it's like Josh Hater back in the day or, you know, Edwin Diaz before he blew out his leg in the celebration of the World Baseball Classic. Like, it's not, like, there's nobody in our bullpen that you're like 100% game over.
Starting point is 00:29:19 Eric Gagne, like game over. We don't have that. Give me prime steroid Gagne any time. That was legitimate game over. With all due respect, listen, it was running rampant. Respectfully, as Clint Cia is like. Hey, he's been on my old show before. I love the dude.
Starting point is 00:29:35 That was a fun time for Dodgers baseball. But yeah, no, I mean, I fully agree with all of that. That's all I got. I fully agree. No. Okay. How about Dave? All right, Dave.
Starting point is 00:29:47 Here's the thing. Tread cautiously. No, no, no, no. Like, I can be, you know, yeah, I get it right. I know. But here's, we're in first place. Is there is, and I was thinking about this when we had our discussion in our production meeting earlier as I was going through the rundown.
Starting point is 00:30:02 It's like, name a game that you're like, what the hell is he doing? I can't, I can't think of a game so far this season or really an inning or a situation that you're like really questioning a move. Like, Dave, I don't know what else to give you. Like, A, A minus. Like, is there, is there anything that was like super egregious that like really sticks out? Like, what is he doing? It's, it's an A plus for me.
Starting point is 00:30:26 And this is not me being a homer. And it's not because he's been on our show a few times. And he remembered my name the next day after we talked to him, you know, had wine with him all that. By the way, if you guys did miss our interview with Dave Roberts in the spring training, go check that out. because that's where you were the only ones to get it. Exclusive, baby. But that's where you understand some of the decisions. I could understand people being like, oh, yeah, Dave, you know, he punted that game.
Starting point is 00:30:52 He punted that. There's a reason. And he also in that interview explains what his decisions to punt are. And usually it's the right call. Yeah, it sucks to see a punt during a postseason run or during a World Series. But there are times where you need to play for the next game when you do have that ability to do that in the postseason. But considering all of the. the injuries. We've talked about it ad nauseum
Starting point is 00:31:15 in the pitching grades here. He didn't have any of the starters that he was anticipating. The bullpen has been a constant revolving door and he's finding ways to put guys in lanes to be successful despite what the numbers say you know, ERA-wise, the Dodgers are still the best team in baseball.
Starting point is 00:31:36 Yeah, they do it with a lot of run production. But that's Dave. That's Dave and that's obviously the front office. He's the guy They're the guys bringing in the revolving door of arms and all this kind of stuff. But when I see Dave once again commanding a clubhouse, everybody is marching to the beat of the same drum. I love it. See, that's exactly. Look at how smart you are now.
Starting point is 00:31:58 God, you're so smart. You're like, just now, just now since the last three years of doing this show with you. So here's the deal. People do not understand that there is so much more to a managerial responsibility and managerial job description than just like putting in a lineup or running guys out there or pitching changes or pinch hitters or whatever it is defensive switches i mean i know we don't have that much anymore because pitchers don't hit but the point is you have to do so much more as a manager than just what folks think of as the exes and o's which i realize is a football term bear with me stay
Starting point is 00:32:34 with me dave has an unbelievable ability to manage all 26 different personalities on the roster and even more than that when the 40 man comes up, right? So you have to understand that not everyone's motivated the same way. Not everyone can be led the same way. And Dave knows how to do that. Plus, he understands all of the other things that go in terms of his responsibilities as a manager in the community and all those things. He knows what he is doing.
Starting point is 00:33:02 And I will never, yeah, I mean, like, are there mistakes made? Sure. But I one time, listen, I'm an expert at this because I one time tried to manage a game on a video game and I was so lost so could you imagine I mean like just and I'm an expert like I tried to do it on a video game so trust me when I tell you this that Dave Roberts is doing a good job he's doing a good job you guys but honestly like he gets an A for me too like he just does like I've known the man for 400 years somebody click that by the way he he gets he gets I trust me I I I I
Starting point is 00:33:40 I managed a video game and I lost 24 to 3, I think was the final score. We're very proud of you. All right. We're going to start a new gaming channel. Me, Riz, we're going to town. Losing to everybody. I haven't played a baseball game in a while. But yeah, the only thing I can say about Dave is, you know, hashtag free Heson Kim.
Starting point is 00:34:02 But I understand why you continue to try Michael Conforto out there. And, you know, as long as you're in Colorado, it works out. Finally, the last one I think we need to touch on is front office, Andrew Friedman, what have they done here in this first half? And really leading into spring training and all of that. And where I'll give little Andy F, as I like to call him, where I'll give an A minus here is that dude's always working. We talked about the revolving door of pitchers, whether it's your Chris Stratton's in there, your Matt Sowers, who was an off-season signing. Actually, it was late spring training signing, Ryan Lotus's, Jose Uranias, or, you know,
Starting point is 00:34:45 your Luis Garcia, who was also more of a late spring training type of deal or whatever. Some of these guys just come in here. Just recalled today, by the way. Yeah, exactly. He's a lie. Will Clark. I mean, this is a dude they found who has a- Not Will Clark.
Starting point is 00:35:00 Not Will Clark. Will Clark is why Clayton Kershaw is number 22. Whatever. They all look the same as what I'm saying. but 34 different players have thrown a pitch for the Los Angeles Dodgers this year, two of those being Miguel Rojas and Kike Hernandez. But he's finding a way to bridge the gap and make it work. Okay, a couple things.
Starting point is 00:35:21 A couple of things with this conversation as to going back to Dave, he now gets an A minus for letting Kiki Hernandez pitch all the time and warm up in the bullpen. Even though, even though Dave did not know that Kiki went to the bullpen, did not know that Kee Kee Kee Kee went to the bullpen. Okay, that was all Kikee. So Dave now gets an A mince. minus the front office I am I'm going to reserve my I need your I need your I need your WKRP headphones because my I fb sucks telling you telling you so I am going
Starting point is 00:35:50 to reserve my grade on the front office until the trade deadline I know that is not part of what we're saying but that's so far coming into the season I'm gonna give you an A but everyone's on the freaking IL so I'm going to wait until because I'm telling you like if you're coming into the season A plus plus plus right. Rokey Sasaki, Blake Snell, Tanner Scott, Kirby Yates. I mean, like, who else did we land? That was like, oh, my
Starting point is 00:36:15 God. Yeah, kind of all the signings have been on the IAL. It's right. So, no, but, but, like, coming into the season, that's not Andrew's fault that they're not healthy. Yeah, yeah. Like, um, coming into the season, I'm giving them an A plus. I will let you know my grade come trade deadline and see what they do
Starting point is 00:36:31 to, we need another bullpen arm. And we probably, depending upon when these starters are coming back, we probably need another starting pitcher. I'll let you know I'm on my grade right now. Yeah. In about a month and change. So guys, make sure you subscribe and tube in. But we're not done yet. We got a little bit more Dodgers talk and then we will sign off. But until then we will be back in a moment after we hear from our friends at Fowl territory. F.T. fam, did you know that Huell has sold over 500 million meals around the world? And now it is your turn to try it while I drink it.
Starting point is 00:37:06 Drink up, Scott, so I can discuss Hewling how I love it. I had some for breakfast this morning. I like to drink it post workout because of the protein included in it. It always tastes delicious, whether it's strawberry, banana, chocolate, vanilla, whatever the flavor is. It tastes like a dessert, honestly. It should not taste as good as it does. I agree. New customers get 15% off plus a free gift at Hewell.com when you use the F-T code.
Starting point is 00:37:31 That is foul. F-O-U-L at Hewell.com slash foul. Don't miss out. Try Huell today for a perfectly balanced meal. If you miss a meal, if you're looking for a little protein boost, you just saw me drinking the black edition ready to drink. There's the vanilla flavor. I love what the chocolate brings to the table. Unfortunately, it didn't go according to plan. He became the first bachelor to ever have his final rose rejected. The internet turned on him. If I could press a button and rewind it all I would.
Starting point is 00:38:14 But what happened to Clayton after the show made even bigger headlines. It began as a one-night stand and ended in a courtroom with Clayton at the center of a very strange paternity scandal. The media is here. This case has gone viral. The dating contract. Agree to date me, but I'm also suing you. Please search for it. This is unlike anything I've ever seen before.
Starting point is 00:38:39 I'm Stephanie Young. This is a lot of,
Starting point is 00:39:10 a story about a horrendous lie that destroyed two families. Late one night, Bobby Gumpright became the victim of a random crime. He pulls the gun. Tells me to lie down on the ground. He identified Tremaine Hudson as the perpetrator. Termaine was sentenced to 99 years. I'm like, Lord, this can't be real. I thought it was a mistaken identity.
Starting point is 00:39:38 The best lie is part of it. partial truth. For 22 years, only two people knew the truth until a confession changed everything. I was a monster. Listen to Burden of Guilt Season 2 on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Why hasn't a woman formally participated in a Formula One race weekend in over a decade? Think about how many skills they have to develop at such a young age. What can we learn from all of the new F1 romance novels suddenly popping up every year?
Starting point is 00:40:19 He still smelled of podium champagne and expensive friction. And how did a 2023 event called Wagageddon change the paddock forever? That day is just seared into my memory. I'm culture writer and F1 expert Lily Herman, and these are just a few of the questions I'm tackling on no grip, a Formula One culture podcast that dives into the under-explored pockets of the sport. In each episode, a different guests and I will go deeper into the wacky mishap, scandals and sagas, both on the track and far away from it that have made F1 a delightful, decadent dumpster
Starting point is 00:40:53 fire for more than 75 years. Listen to no grip on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I know they just had pups at the park at Dodgers Stadium, and it used to be one of my favorite days when I was privileged enough to be there for those. Maybe you guys can help me get handsome a home. This is a pucker that was on the euthanasia list just because there was no more space in the shelter. He's a three-year-old pity mix. He is so, so sweet. He's unbelievably kind with all other dogs. He's unbelievable with kids. He's so, so great. He's going to go to the vet on Monday just to get an overall wellness check. Make sure he's up to date on all his vaccinations. He's already neutered. He's a sweetheart. We would like a forever home for this sweet boy.
Starting point is 00:41:46 we can always use donations guys we are a 100% donation based foundation go to giddreith guardian.org for more information on handsome you can hit me up as well on all of my socials what a sweet boy let's get him um let's get him adopted he deserves it he was almost killed a couple days ago and and we got him out of the shelter all right clint what is coming up he is handsome that's why his name is handsome i can't call him ugly he's handsome all right uh what is coming up on your channel my friends uh tonight we will be streaming probably Later on in the evening, check it out, subscribe all Dodgers podcast with Clint Paceas and Jeff Snyder. I might not be there.
Starting point is 00:42:24 I'm not 100% sure, but either way the boys will be there. Hang on a second. Hang on a second. So let me get this straight. You just added Jeff Snyder as your co-host, which I understand. Good dude. Really good dude. Very knowledgeable.
Starting point is 00:42:34 And the last two times you're like, I may or may not be there. So basically you hired the dude and now you're just taken off. It's just not working anymore. I'm one of those executives. I'm just like, yeah, yeah, yeah. You go do my job. But also, I mean, this is a guy who was already streaming five days a week, you know, not solo, but like he's a grinder.
Starting point is 00:42:54 As where I do this show, and then when I'm done with this show, I'm just like, oh. Really? Does this show take that much out of you? I mean, prepping multiple shows, I will say it is a bit of a grind. So I like my days off. But me and my buddy. All right, Freddie Freeman. The opposite of Freddie Freeman.
Starting point is 00:43:13 I'm old. Hey, quickly, I do want to talk about the Kansas City series and more so. Dustin May, we might be in the final few outings of Dustin May pitching, at least starting for the Dodgers. I don't think they're going to be that crazy about it yet. But Emmett Sheehan has signaled he is a thousand percent ready to go down at the AAA level. They've had a perfect game going at AAA last night at one point. The team should be getting Tyler Glass now at some point. back soon, back at some point soon.
Starting point is 00:43:47 So the rotation's going to start getting better. And you look at Dustin May, four and a half ERA. I understand he's barely pitched over the last couple of years. So commend him for being able to give this team innings. But if you look at the body's there right now, like he has a lot to prove. Much in the way that Michael Conforto has some things to prove. Dustin May has to prove himself to stay in that rotation. You know where he could easily prove himself, the bullpen, which is what I've been saying all
Starting point is 00:44:10 freaking year. That's what I've been saying all year. I'm in the bullpen. Perfect. We need a bullpen arm. Coming soon. Coming soon. But beyond that, showy Otani makes his third start for the team this year on Saturday. Looking forward to seeing another show start. It's Bobby Whit Jr.
Starting point is 00:44:26 Always. So, yeah, I mean, yeah. Bobby Wood Jr., by the way, was just announced to the World Baseball Classic on Team USA. That was announced by team manager Mark DeRosa today. By the way, congratulations to our friends at MLB Network on MLB Central. They celebrated their 1,000th show today between Lauren Shahati. Robert Flores and Mark DeRosa, the team USA manager. Yeah, of course I'm looking forward to Show Hey, starting. Again, it's more, I think, about just getting him comfortable out there.
Starting point is 00:44:53 It must not be pitch count stuff because it was like 28, 18, and you went one inning each time. So, of course, I'm excited to see him. And also, I want to give a shout out to my girl. This is kind of a funny story. So Emily is a young lady that I met probably when she was six or seven years old. She is a massive Colorado Rockies fan. And when I covered the Colorado Rockies, basically from 2007 until 2000 and let's say 11, she befriended me.
Starting point is 00:45:21 I mean, she's little itty-bitty at the time, right? She has now been to, I want to say, 833 major league games, and she caught her first home run ball. Oh, yeah, I saw that. It was show hay's ball, 300th home run for him between his home runs in Japan and the United States. It was her first home run that she caught there at course field. She is a first baseman. She plays softball for Adam State in Colorado. First baseman.
Starting point is 00:45:46 She wears number 17 for Todd Heldon. She's a baseball fanatic, knows the game upside, up, down, all the things. I'm proud of her, and I'm happy for her. So congratulations to Emily on that. Yeah, so, okay, so there's that. So TBD and Rebleski is that? That's your other topic of conversation. Well, yeah, I mean, I honestly, I literally wrote this in there during the
Starting point is 00:46:09 the hungry hello fresh read because I forgot I didn't do a baseball thought for the road. But to steal your thunder and steal Emily's thunder, my buddy Onkitt, who is very good at being a ball hawk at Dodger Stadium for some reason. He's a Giants fan. Don't hold it over his head there. But he caught Shohei's 250th Homer and got a signed bat from Shohei, two signed baseballs and some other swag for giving it back to him. But I'm proud of him for giving show hey.
Starting point is 00:46:39 back the ball. That's, that's cool. That's very funny that you say that. So like on X, Emily had, you know, put out there that she caught Show Hay's 300 home run ball. And there was a Dodger fan that was like, hey, you should, are you interested in selling it? And I wrote Emily immediately, I said, do not sell that ball unless it's to Show Hey. Yeah. And I was like, you know, because she's young, right? She's probably 18, 19 years old. She needs a little cheddar. Yeah, but wait for Show Hey to give you the cheddar. Don't wait for like, you know, some Dodger fan to do it. But anyway, that's not the point. All right, don't forget you guys. We have our own
Starting point is 00:47:15 merch. We can't do this show without you. We appreciate you so much. Check out Dodgers Territory Shop.com. Or just click on the store button here on YouTube and support the show and style. We appreciate you guys so much. I hope you guys know that. Clint and I love doing this with you guys. It's a lot more fun when you participate. So thanks for watching. We are going to be,
Starting point is 00:47:34 what is today? This is Thursday, right? We're going to be back on Monday for a normal show Off Day Show. Yeah, yeah, at 12 p.m. Pacific, 3 p.m. Eastern. Thank you guys so much for watching. The Dodgers sweep the Rockies. We will be back. Go Dodgers.
Starting point is 00:47:49 Let's say, if you guys also have a guest you want to see on Monday, let us know. We'll try to find. Alana knows everybody. So we'll do that. That said, bye. All right, Martin Wallen. Please join us. Bye.

Starting point is 00:48:46 That's when his life took a disturbing turn. A one-night stand would end in a courtroom. The media is here. This case has gone viral. The dating contract. Agree to date me, but I'm also suing you. This is unlike anything I've ever seen before. I'm Stephanie Young.
