Evening, everybody, and welcome to a live post-name edition of Dodgers territory. That is Clint Paseas. I am Alana Rizzo coming to you live after a two-game victory. if you will between the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Starting point is 00:02:43 Yes, it's yesterday and today. That's two games. That's two wins. That's two victories. Well, now it's three victories because they did beat the Padres heading out of San Diego. Well, no, I'm just talking about what the Reds series. Yes.
Starting point is 00:02:57 Okay. Anyway, that's fine. It's three straight wins, two against the Reds. All good things. Gavin Lux got his World Series ring. The Reds are now 0 and 2 against the Dodgers so far at home. So congratulations to Luxie. Better news, though.
Starting point is 00:03:10 the Dodgers have taken the first two games of the series. Clint, what did you like about this one? I like that they got more runs than the bad guys did in this one. That's what I'm going for. Hey, Dodgers are able to ride a, or sorry, a four-run sixth inning fueled them to a, what was the final?
Starting point is 00:03:26 I guess I got a button for that, actually. Six-three final. It felt like it was going to be a little bit further at one point to. Ben Casparius gave up two runs in the, what, seventh inning, but otherwise it was mostly all Dodgers in this one, which is a show I also host. We'll be live after this. But win number 76 on the year, the Padres, where are the Padres?
Starting point is 00:03:51 That's one of the things we got to look at. Yeah, they're still ahead. So the Dodgers will keep their one game advantage in the National League West. But the big story of the day for me outside of Clayton Kershow, I want to talk a lot of Kershaw, but Kiki Hernan. back in the lineup and doing big things for your boys in blue. Yes, don't forget, guys, you can support the show in style. Support guys like Kike Hernandez.
Starting point is 00:04:15 We appreciate him. I'm sure he loved some Dodgers Territory gear. It is open, Dodgers Territory Shop.com. You can also click the store button here on YouTube, support the show in style. Don't forget also to rate us five stars, subscribe the Dodgers Territory podcast on Apple, Spotify, wherever you get your pods. All right, you want to talk about Kike. I want to talk about Kirshah.
Starting point is 00:04:37 So let's start with Kirsch. I am so impressed with the way this man continues to come up in big situations when he needs to. He continues to be a stopper or B, a guy that continues the street going. He just has evolved and evolved and evolved. He retired the last 14 Reds batters he faced and allowed one run in five innings. This is from Alvin Gonzalez who works for ESPN. His ERA this season is down to 306. his ERA in 5 August starts Clint is 191.
Starting point is 00:05:10 In a month, the Dodgers will set a postseason rotation. Clayton Kershaw is in it for me. He's in it. That was what we were talking about the other day. I got a little bit of flack from people about my Glasnow versus Kershaw argument or whatever. But there is a real honest, legitimate argument conversation to be made here that Clayton Kershaw in season 18, is at the bare minimum pitching as good, if not better than Tyler Glass now. And by the numbers.
Starting point is 00:05:42 I think you go with the hot hand, right? You go with the hot arm. Clayton Kershaw has the hot arm right now. Yeah. And, you know, I mean, he's done so much for this organization over those 18 years. But yeah, hell of an outing. Definitely very easily could have gone another inning or two in this one. Like you mentioned, retired the final 14 batters had the number.
Starting point is 00:06:01 The fastball did not exceed 89. 5 miles per hour tonight and he still just gets the job done. The Reds aren't slouches. They're not a great team, but they're in the postseason picture. They're trying to land themselves a wild card. But yeah, I think the number was actually he finishes August with a 1.88 ERA over the five starts. And since his bad season debut, that first start of the season where he gave up, I think, five runs in like four innings or whatever, 2.67 ERA. That's 25 earned runs over 84 and a third inning.
Starting point is 00:06:34 Some would call that vintage Kirsch. Oh, he hates that. He hates vintage Kirsch. But what he does love is the competition. He also loves winning. And that's what the Dodgers do when he is on the hill. Again, we talked about it yesterday with Jack Harris of the LA Times. You know, he is absolutely forcing the conversation of putting him in that postseason rotation
Starting point is 00:06:57 based on how he's pitching right now and based on how other guys are pitching in that rotation as well. I mean, this is a guy that we know that he has a devastating curveball. You talked about the fastball topping out at lower than 90 miles per hour, but he has that change up now that you're like, oh, wow, Kirsch, with the change up. You know, this is a guy that has continued. Yeah, I mean, it took him 18 seasons, but it's fine. It's a guy that continually reinvents himself continually, continually develops into a gamer. He just is. That's who it is. Let's talk a bit about your dude. welcome back Kiki Hernandez to the lineup. Kiki, welcome back, my dude.
Starting point is 00:07:36 It's good to see you. I mean, understanding, like, at some point, this left elbow injury nearly cost him the rest of his season as we learn more about it, but he comes back, has two hits. One of the hits, a little bit of a gift, thanks to Andy Paez and his inability to base run sometimes. We do love a good tootland from Andy Paez,
Starting point is 00:07:59 are also known as thrown out on the basis like an income poop, which is a wonderful stat there. But yeah, sack fly in this one, just professional at bats. You get out of Kiki Hernandez. And, you know, rest in peace, buddy Kennedy. But I just feel a lot better with Kike Hernandez being an option for Dave Robertson company. I mean, yeah, you think? I love the fact that Kiki Hernandez is back, obviously. I don't like the fact that Alex Vescia is on the IL, Because we, I mean, yes, you get Yates. You get Tanner Scott. That's good.
Starting point is 00:08:33 I mean, again, the Dodgers are phenomenal about creating interesting injuries and phantom injuries. And maybe this is something just to give Alex Bessia a blow. I am not saying that. Legitimately, maybe he needs the aisle. I don't know. The point is it's good to have Kiki Hernandez back. Breaking news.
Starting point is 00:08:50 The Dodgers know how to play that game very well. They're very good at it. Listen, he gives you the professional at bat. He gives you energy in the dugout. He gives you energy in the clubhouse. The fans loved it. You heard the ovation when he came to the plate for the first time, welcoming him back. I love all of it.
Starting point is 00:09:09 I love it. This was a good, this was a good clean win by these boys. Yeah, I mean, you got to thank the Reds defense a good little bit. You know, Miguel Rojas comes in. He got the pinch hit, you know, RBI double for a dude who's not a center fielder running out. there, you know, credit to him, uh, the out or the defense for the Reds overall questionable. L.A. D.A. de Cruz is not a shortstop. They don't have an outfielder. They've been playing Gavin Lux for the majority of their season either at D.H or left field. And I can tell you from
Starting point is 00:09:41 experience, he's not a left fielder. You're going to lose some ball games. He's not a D.A.T. either. He's not a L. I love Gavin, but he's not a D.H. either. Now, I'm, I'm really shocked. They haven't given him a run. The Cincinnati Reds. Give him a run at shortstop. What do you have to lose trying him at shortstop? The kid is, So Ellie Delacruz to lose mentally is what you have to lose. That's the thing. You lose him. Did you see the necklace he was wearing?
Starting point is 00:10:07 Did you see the ice that Ellie Delacruz? Oh my gosh. How could you not? How could you not? It was blinding. I was just waiting for him to have another error like he did last night where the ball just went right through the wickets. And, you know, that's kind of what I was going for.
Starting point is 00:10:21 Because the Reds, they love to beat themselves. That is fine too, but it helped the Dodgers two nights in a row in which the Dodgers scored early because of some shoddy, if you will, Cincinnati Reds defense. But listen, I'll take it. I'll take the first two games of the series. I love it. We can talk much more about this. But first, we do have a quick word from our friends over at Fowell Territory.
Starting point is 00:10:44 Crats, if you need to pay rent for your apartment and you're not getting anything for it, then you probably haven't heard of it built. You have to pay rent every single month. Why not get some points that you can redeem for other things? that are a lot more fun than paying rent, like flights, hotels, Uber rides. That's right. And it doesn't stop there.
Starting point is 00:11:05 Built is about making your entire neighborhood more rewarding. You can dine at your favorite local restaurants and you can earn additional points with VIP treatment at certain fitness studios. And you can also enjoy exclusive experiences that are just for Built members. They announce them every month. Built is turning a monthly expense
Starting point is 00:11:22 into an opportunity to earn rewards and discover the best that your neighborhood has to offer. Your rent is finally. finally working for you and you can earn points on rent and around your neighborhood wherever you call home by going to joinbuilt.com slash foul. That's j-o-in-b-l-t.com slash fow-U-L. Make sure to use our URL so they know that F-T sent you. Get after it. Hello, hello. I'm Malcolm Gladwell, host of Smart Talks with IBM. I recently spoke with IBM's new director of research, Jake Gambatta. We discussed his vision for the future of quantum computing. At IBM research,
Starting point is 00:11:58 What we always do is answer what is the future of computing, whether it's coming up with new algorithms, coming up with better AI, coming up with quantum, or coming up with just how do different accelerators go together. It's our DNA to answer the question of what is the future. Isn't it a perfect problem for IBM because you kind of need to have a legacy of building stuff? Yes.
Starting point is 00:12:21 Building actual physical machines. Yeah, it's why I came to IBM. I wanted the experience. the culture of building hard things that others have not done before. Where do you imagine we are in the timeline of this technology? There will come a point when it will mature. Right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:44 My cell phone is a mature technology at this point. How far are we from that point with Conton? By 2029, we'll build the first fault-tolerant quantum computer. That is one that can run a very, very large, large problem. To learn how IBM is building the future of computing, visit IBM.com slash quantum. We're back and we have ourselves a super chat from our friend, Richie Flores 499th, helping out the show. Thank you very much, Richie saying, getting healthy, the Phillies lose today. Pah is setting, base running back 100 years also.
Starting point is 00:13:23 A hundred, wow. A hundred years. Dodger Stadium parking lot and Kershaw, you spell that G-U-T-S. I don't know if it was a gutty. performance. I mean, it's just, it's just, it says Kirsch. It was, it was vintage Kersh. I think that's the best way to describe it. By the way, the stupid Padres won seven to six. Yeah, yeah, that's, that happens. Big Dapper couldn't help us out, apparently. There were some things before the game, and we could have more reactions. We'll get more into the chat a little bit later, but as you
Starting point is 00:13:55 mentioned a little bit ago, Alex Vescia to the 15-day IL with an oblique thing. And I, I don't disagree that maybe it's a little bit of a blow. You know, Davis, Davis had to ride him. They've had to ride him. They've had to ride him all season long just because of necessity. And I think giving Alex Vessia a couple of days, 15 days or whatever it is, you know, however they're backtracking it. To the 23rd.
Starting point is 00:14:24 24 days ago. Yeah. Yeah. Retroactor to the 23rd. So four days ago. So what? That's fine. You give him another 11 days off.
Starting point is 00:14:31 I'm fine with that because if Tanner Scott and Kirby 8s can hold the fort down as they should based on the positions in which they were signed to do, I'm okay with giving Alex Vessia a blow. He's thrown a lot of innings this year for the Los Angeles daughter. So hopefully he legitimately is okay and it's not a massive oblique issue that's going to linger for a long time because it takes a while. He had that same issue too last year in the NLCS and then there was the whole thing of maybe he's not available for the World Series. and, you know, here in my old age, my memory escapes me. I actually can't even remember if he was on the World Series roster or not, but I know it's something that that has popped up for him in the past,
Starting point is 00:15:09 that little bit of a big game. I'm pretty sure Alex Vescia had some pretty big innings in the World Series. Yeah. Somebody on the chat. Somebody on the chat, check us out. Check that stat for us. Check us before we wreck ourselves. Yeah, something like that.
Starting point is 00:15:25 You know, sometimes we say things. We don't remember all the stats. but the corresponding move, Blake Snell, back from the paternity list, welcoming their second child, first child? I don't know. Ask David Vese. He's like all up in their business. Oh, bro. They are BFF.
Starting point is 00:15:42 They are BFF. I don't know what child number this is, but congratulations to him and Mrs. Snell on the birth of a child. And welcome back. A child, yeah. A child. We can congratulate us on pretty soon-ish. welcoming Max Muncie back, took more live BP today, took more ground balls at third base today. And according to Dave Roberts and all the media that report on it, he could be returning next week while the team is on the road.
Starting point is 00:16:13 You know, another one of those short rehab assignments for him. But yeah, like huge. That is that is a massive get for the Dodgers. Again, we've talked about it at length. We don't have to go into it in detail, but he sets the rest of the lineup. That's it. sets the rest of the lineup. A professional at bat causes the opposition to throw a billion pitches.
Starting point is 00:16:32 Even if it ends up being, you know, a ground ball out or a strikeout eventually, he forces a lot of pitches to be thrown, which is a very good thing. My buddy, Jeff Snyder, who I will be on with a little bit later on my All Dodgers show doing the post-post game. All right, Jeff. He says Vesia got the one pitch save in game two. remember and clearly not i knew i knew he was on the roster i knew he was on the world series roster things you know i just didn't i mean yeah yeah and uh you know i i don't really care to talk too much about this one but uh we also had another rehab assignment for rokey susaki today who
Starting point is 00:17:13 a little bit of mixed stuff i guess this is just random notes and updates or whatever because honestly it's not a whole lot to talk about from today's game the dodgers won it was good No, it was a very, it kind of felt like it was an easy one. Not that any of these wins are easy, but it wasn't like anything egregious happened on either side. You know, we talked about the Reds defense being garbage. We talked about Kershaw being really good. Soak up every Kershaw day you can get. You want to talk about the bullpen a little bit with the Henriquez?
Starting point is 00:17:41 I mean, let's give him a shout out. Yeah. Hey, listen, Edgar, Henriquez got himself into trouble. Then immediately got himself out of trouble. What, the first two runners reach in the sixth inning. and then I was worried about him vulturing Kershaw's win away from him. And then he turns some sort of wild double play, a little bit of acrobatics from baby Bazooka there,
Starting point is 00:18:02 and then gets the final out. Happy birthday, by the way, Bazooka. I think Bazooka's birthday was today. I think it was. But anyway. Here's a couple of notes. You want to hear a couple of notes from this game? All right.
Starting point is 00:18:14 So the daughters completed their league leading 41st comeback win. They've now scored six or more runs in consecutive games. games and three consecutive games. So we were talking the other day, meaning yesterday, that the Dodgers offense needed to wake up a little bit. I'll take six or more runs in three consecutive games. That works for me. They've also clinched their first season series against Cincinnati, which seems bizarre since
Starting point is 00:18:37 2022. They're 7 and 0 against the Reds this year. So if there ever were to be a head to head with the Reds, it's not going to happen, but the Dodgers would have the advantage. They've won their 27th series of the season. tomorrow, Clint, LA will look to be the first team to sweep Cincinnati this season. So Cincinnati's not a terrible team, right? I mean, they haven't been swept all year.
Starting point is 00:18:59 That says something about the Reds. Dodgers starting pitchers are now 12 and 5 in the month of August. We talk about Clayton Kirishaw this month. But starting pitchers are 12 and 5 this month with a 3-4-1, ERA, which is the third best in the National League behind the Cubs and the Reds. Again, the Reds are not a bad team. Nope. no there i mean again there's a reason they're still in the hunt despite some issues some flaws that
Starting point is 00:19:24 we've we've seen and thankfully the dodgers know to take advantage of those flaws but they're still a very good intriguing ball club and um you know dodgers better and uh you got show hey otani on the mound tomorrow making his his first start since uh taking that comebacker off the leg so that's something you definitely want to watch a little bit uh tomorrow also a weird start time 540 p m local start time and it's Shohei Otani 50-50 bobblehead night so everybody gets a bobblehead. Are you getting in line
Starting point is 00:19:55 now? Hell no. I hate nothing more than people and people go to bobblehead nights. So you will not find me there. Everybody goes but everyone's gotten one. The Dodgers have done a great job of making sure that the first
Starting point is 00:20:11 40,000 people or whatever it is, whatever the number is that they claim, those folks are getting the bobbleheads. I mean, hopefully people aren't hoarding them. There should be a little bit of a little bit more. They changed the thing. Of that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:24 They changed it where everybody with a ticket gets specific, just Otani Bobbleheads. For those nights, everybody in attendance allegedly, everybody with a ticket does end up with a bobblehead. All the other ones. You do not have to get in line at 1 a.m. They're still going to be there, though. People are still going to be there. They're going to be palm in a blade just in case, you know, shit. gets a little rowdy.
Starting point is 00:20:48 Oh my God. Sometimes you got to cut a fool trying to take your, I mean, I would cut somebody for the decoy bobblehead one. I am not condoning that. Stop it. You do not have to cut a fool for a bobblehead. Let's stop it right now. No, no.
Starting point is 00:21:07 There's kids watching Dodgers territory. Don't forget about that. Oh, they shouldn't watch us. But if you are, you could wait a second. We'll be back after a word from our friends at foul territory. Okay, KP, this is your first arena club experience. We're going to open a slab pack together. So first off, we're going to buy one of those $25 slab packs, and we get to see what is in the pack.
Starting point is 00:21:28 There it is. The Grail, which is the best card in the pack, and worth the most. There are some other cards that we're chasing, and you can see the entire lineup so that you know what you're in the running for. There's the Yamamoto signed card. Now, let's open up our pack and see how we do. we have ourselves a really cool graphic and then a Shohay Otani 50-50 card from last year. What do you want to do? Should we sell it right back to them for 16 or should we keep it?
Starting point is 00:21:59 You should give it to me. I'll keep it. Good answer. Fine. I will give it to you since the Blue Jays didn't get Otani. You can get this 50-50 card instead. Use the code foul, F-O-U-L to get yourself 20% off your first slab pack or card purchase. Yes, you get to keep you.
Starting point is 00:22:14 keep that card if you want it. They send it to you. F-O-U-L at arena club.com slash foul. Hello, hello. I'm Malcolm Gladwell, host of Smart Talks with IBM. I recently spoke with IBM's new director of research, Jake Mbeta. We discussed his vision for the future of quantum computing. At IBM research, what we always do is answer what is the future of computing, whether it's coming up with new algorithms, coming up with better AI, coming up with quantum, or coming up with just how do different accelerators go together.
Starting point is 00:22:48 It's our DNA to answer the question of what is the future. Isn't it a perfect problem for IBM because you kind of need to have a legacy of building stuff? Yes. Building actual physical machines. Yeah, it's why I came to IBM. I wanted the experience, the culture of building hard things that others have not done before. Where do you imagine we are in the time? timeline of this technology. There will come a point when it will mature. Right? Yeah. My
Starting point is 00:23:20 cell phone is a mature technology at this point. How far are we from that point with Conton? By 2029, we'll build the first fault-tolerant quantum computer. That is one that can run a very, very large, large problem. To learn how IBM is building the future of computing, visit IBM.com slash quantum. Quickly before we sign off. I love Kevin Millar, by the way. Let's say welcome to Kevin Millar to the Fowell Territory family. I love his answer to the arena club slap pack answer. That was cool. Good for him.
Starting point is 00:23:57 Welcome to the fan. Kevin Pilar. Good to see you. Yeah. Dodgers legend, Kevin Pillar, bro, by the way. For those who know, you know, in his like 38 minutes, he was a healthy Dodger. But before we did sign off, you know, we talked about it already a little bit.
Starting point is 00:24:12 Padres did beat Big Dumpur and the Seattle Mariners. I want to look at the playoff picture because, Dodgers are in the playoffs, but I care about one of those top two seats. I think that's very important for this team like we talked about yesterday, spoke about yesterday with Jack Harris. A couple of good things then, Clint, Macias, the Phillies lost to the Mets, the Cubs lost to the Giants. And those are the two teams.
Starting point is 00:24:37 They need to leapfrog. Yeah. So right now, still Dodgers, seven games back of the Brewers, but only a half game behind that second seed at the moment. both the Cubs in the Phillies, six and a half games, behind or whatever, half game, that's what I'm looking for.
Starting point is 00:24:53 Half game lead ahead of the Dodgers. Math is hard. Math is hard. My buddy Jeff is in, what's it called? He knows I don't do math. I save that for, you know,
Starting point is 00:25:02 0.5 games. I saved that for him. But obviously, again, this is one of those ones where we're just flying by the seat of our pants, having some fun. Why don't we hang out with the chat a little bit, and then we will get out of here. Apparently,
Starting point is 00:25:14 apparently there is a, Doug is hanging out with us. Doug Davis, who is not the pitcher, but is a Yankees fan. And, you know, he just, I think he just keeps copy pacing the same thing over. And people want us to. Yeah, he's saying that our trophy key still looks like a thrift store knockoff compared to the Yankees. Yeah, they're 27 championships.
Starting point is 00:25:35 Yeah, that's fine. Yeah, how many of those? That's fine, Doug, because you're not even going to make the postseason this year, Doug, so don't worry about it. How many of those championships did they win when they only allowed just white people to play baseball. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. So now we're talking about cutting a fool. Well, they haven't, they haven't won one since, what, 2001? 2009. Oh, 2009, that's right. You should know this. You worked with Jerry Harrison,
Starting point is 00:26:01 Jr. long enough. They won that title. So, yeah, why don't you like, why don't you count them after, you know, how many they have after 1947? That's what I'd be more interested in what they've done. Well, I mean. Respectfully. respectfully, right? Hey, Riz, I know this is going to piss some people off, but we got to chat earlier from Seabed.
Starting point is 00:26:25 So congratulations, Taylor Swift. You now have more rings than the San Diego Padres. And the Dallas Cowboys in the last 30 years. I saw that on, I saw that on the interweb today as well. Yeah, because I know that you're an Eagles fan.
Starting point is 00:26:39 So there's that. Yeah. So congratulations, I guess, to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey. I couldn't care less. I'm not mad that they're engaged. I just don't.
Starting point is 00:26:47 care. Like I'm happy for them. I hope it works out forever. Sign a pre-up. Oh. Sign a pre-up. Hey, what is the leading cause? Make sure that you make him sign up pre-up. Holy crap. Marriage is the leading cause of divorce kids. Don't forget that one. But yeah, you know, just for everybody, for everybody, I'm going to go ahead before we get out of here. I'm going to block Doug in the chat because he says he's just going around being like a troll to every Dodgers chat or whatever. This is exactly what it said.
Starting point is 00:27:18 The Dodgers are baseball's ultimate pay-to-win team. This is so gold coming from a Yankee fan. Brough. Except the win part never shows up. I don't know, except for what, 2024, 2020. Okay. All that money in your trophy case still looks like a thrift store knockoff.
Starting point is 00:27:37 Yeah, 2017 compared to the Yankees. All right, Doug. I hope you have a great day. Well, you got anything else, Riz? Or you think we can go ahead and get out of here? No, no, I'm, I'm, it was a good. good win. Like there's not a ton to talk about. I'm happy. It's good. I love it. We're still going to win the division and the Yankees aren't going to make the postseason. I'm calling it right now,
