This was a good game for a lot of reasons as the Dodgers start the series with the Marlins in Miami.

It was a 410 a.m. Pacific start. So that means that I can be with you guys tonight. Well, no, it was 410. p.m. Pacific. You said a.m. I know, I apologize. 710 Eastern, which that's why I can do this, because it's only 10 o'clock here, which is awesome. Good to be with you guys, 147. That's the game that we're on out of 162. We are coming down to the wire. Let's do this. Let's talk about, let's finally give Kyle Tucker some flowers, Clint, because I'd really nice, and I put this on X earlier. some people may disagree with me, but this was Kyle Tucker's Dodgers moment.

You have been asking for a Kyle Tucker moment, you know, a Dodgers moment all year long, all season long. And yeah, a boy was due. And finally, finally, Grand Slam, three hits in this game, finishes, what, a double shy of the cycle, five RBI. and don't look now. You know, we've, on the internet, a lot of us have taken a lot of crap about Kyle Tucker. And at some point, you assume that he's never, the numbers are never going to, you know, match the back of the baseball card. He's not going to put up the kind of numbers over the course of the season because he doesn't

have enough time to do that. But at some point, we're going to see the hitter that the Dodgers have signed. And, or the Dodgers signed and quietly, very quietly, he's kind of sneaking up. Yeah. The numbers don't look great. They don't look fantastic. But when you look at the last five games, suddenly, 353 average, a couple of homers, six RPI in there, the OPS over 1,200. Yes, Alana, this is an extremely small sample size.

But Kyle Tucker is hitting the ball hard. He's getting a little luck, but also just kind of, you know, finding where they ain't, I guess, in a way. And it's massive for the Dodgers and it's coming at a fantastic time. It's so funny because I'm looking at the chat here, Clint, of course. And thanks you guys so much for being with us. It's just funny how everyone's like now on the tuck train, which I'm fine with. Like I get it. I mean, this guy has been going through it. He has been wearing it this season, right? That's from Tim G. 61.25. There's another one that says he's alive. Kyle Conforto hit a grand slam. He's alive. He's alive. I mean, I love it. Yeah. I mean, listen, I'm happy for him.

We're going to need him down the stretch. There's a reason that the Dodgers signed this kid. And I need it for his own self-esteem and his own self-worth. I mean, he's been through it, right? So good for him. There's a lot to talk about. I mean, you mentioned it, a double shy of the cycle. Let's talk about Maxwell Muncie.

You know, he in that two-hole, we've not had the greatest offensive production, Clint Paseas, from the two-hole. However, Max Muncie, three hits in that two-hole. he has reached base four different times. He's three home runs shy of 30, which would be five seasons in which Maxwell Muncie has had at least 30 home runs, I think only three other Dodgers ever in the history of this wonderfully beautiful historic franchise have done that.

So Max Muncie, I mean, again, three for four tonight just continues to shove. Yeah. I mean, we've, as the kids say, glazed Max Muncie a whole bunch, and he will perpetually deserve it. But, yeah, he was coming out of a little bit of a cold spell there was months. And I think, what, last two, three games started to heat up just a little bit here. But yeah, this is the type of game. I don't know if it's because he's batting higher in the lineup. If he's just feeling good at whatever it is, Lone Depot Park, Lone Mark Park, whatever one it is,

we got of course one of those is out here Rancho Cucamungamanga Quakes play there but that's where I get confused on what it is two minor league parks we're talking about or minor league teams but yeah Muncie in that in that two hole a spot that has been a black hole for this team of course ideally he's not in that two hole

this is probably mostly necessitated by Freddie Freeman being out with a knee issue for the second consecutive game but if you get somebody who can get on base four times, you know, three knocks in there, um, really was, was kind of, uh, keep the keep the keep the line moving kind of guy. And that's somebody that this offense, this Dodgers team desperately needs.

And this reason, you know, on the screen, you see, it's eight in a, eight in a row, eight in a row, eight in a row, eight in a woe, eight in a woe, eight in a woe, of Boys in Blue. Love to love. Mowage. Mowage. It's huge. It's huge. We love Munts.

And, you know, given Dave another option in that lineup, which, you know, that's a fantastic thing about Max Muncie. Like, I don't know if you remember, but the, you know, in 2020, when they, you know, brought Mookie Betts over, there was a hot minute there in the start of, that 60-game season where Muncie, they've had Muncie hitting lead-off, which at the time kind of made no sense outside of the fact that, yeah, he's really good at getting on base. But eventually you see Mook flip to the lead-off spot and the Dodgers go on to win a World Series and you've got to ring for it and all that kind of stuff.

But he can hit first. He could hit second. He could hit clean up for this team. He could hit in the eight spot. And because it's Max Muncie, Alana, he doesn't say shit. He does whatever the team needs that day. he's the workhorse right he's the guy that's just like whatever you need i am going to absolutely put my you know my my my head down i'm going to just like do whatever you asked me to do and he has

again we continue to talk about the mount rushmore if you will of dodgers players and max muncie continues to make a great case as to why he deserves to be on the mount rushmore of dodgers players i mean again i mean he continues to climb up every single statistical uh category for the Dodgers in terms of all-time franchise leaders since the Dodgers obviously have moved to Los Angeles from Brooklyn. This is a guy that I just mentioned three more home runs, which I have no doubt in the world in the next, what, 14 games, that he can get three more home runs to have another 30 or more home run season

is fifth as a Dodger. That's just massive. I mean, this is a guy that has been so clutch, so, available, so good for this team for so long that I don't think we give him enough flowers. I don't think we glaze him enough for what he's meant to this team, honestly. Like, he's just been so, so good. Then again, I want to thank the Oakland athletics. They were Oakland at the time for DFAing him and having him sit on the couch.

As much as I thank the Mets for DFAing Justin Turner. I feel like Justin Turner and Max Muncie are very similar in regards to. to what they were when they became a Dodger, and the Dodgers allowed them to be who they actually are. And the impact that both of those players have had on this team since coming from the respective teams that kicked them to the curb is very similar. There's a lot of parallels with Justin Turner and Max Muncie. So good on them.

Are our starters going deeper into games at this point in the season important? Yeah, I mean, as far as, as you can go into the game, the more length, the more depth, the more, you know, volume you can, you can eat up as a starter is huge because it's going to come down to obviously pitching in defense. That's just what it is. But the further you can go in the game, especially, you know, well, really, in any series, whether it's five games or seven games, that's massive. That's massive. Yeah, yeah. I mean, this is what you want out of your starting pitchers. And this is where we get so excited about the prospect of the postseason and the elite top four that this team has with

Snell, who could very easily start game one, Yamamoto, who could very easily start game one, and of course, Terrick Scouble, the reigning AL-Sai Young Award winner twice over, who could start game one, and also Tyler Glassnow, pretty damn good with the stuff there. But yeah, that's going to be massive in the postseason, protecting against an at times shaky bullpen. A couple of more super chats before we take a quick break. We got $1.99 from Raul in the chat. And this is where people like us, much to the chagrin of the overreactionary people online, of which we also are. We can overreact, but we can also see the bigger picture a lot of the time of eventually, this is part of the story. I say it so many times over and over. It's part of the story of a long 162 game season where at times the team is going to play like shit.

They're going to look like shit. You're going to assume that there's no way out. You know, there's no, they're never going to learn how to hit again or the pitching is just never going to piece anything together. Um, they, they figure it out. That's what they do. That is what they do. Um, and again, that's, that's why baseball is the best because you can, you know,

kind of just wait for the next chapter, you know, wait for 162 games to play out. That's why I love it, Alana. That's why I love it. I love this game, especially this time of year. And I said this a couple of, uh, oh, I said it yesterday on our show and I said it Monday, I think too. And on a couple of other interviews that, uh, I've done recently. This is the best time of year, in my opinion, for sports.

Because not only do you have several teams, because of the three wild cards in each league, you have several teams still jockeying for position. Like we still know, I mean, we know the Dodgers are in, right, which is great. As fans were like, ooh, that's great. Like, like, we're worried about seating. We're worried about home field. We're worried about, you know, who were we going to face in the first round. But there are so many other teams that are still jockeying for position.

So that makes it a lot of fun. And then the postseason starts. And it's just so every single pitch, every game, everybody is locked in. Plus you have obviously football that has started, both the college and the NFL level. And then, you know, it's just, it's a good time to be a sports fan. It's always a great time to be a Dodgers fan because they're always in it. They're always important. They're always impactful.

They always matter. So I love this time of year. It's just I'm grateful that we get to cover a team that's always relevant, a love. lot of folks don't get to do that. So I'm grateful that we have the opportunity to cover a team that matters that people either love or hate. And it's okay that people hate our team because it just makes it that much better. The bigger story today, I guess, other than the fact that the Dodgers win, and we love that, is the much-anticipated major league debut of outfielder from AA, Hosewey DePaula. This is very unprecedented in terms of a call-up under the Andrew Friedman regime of a AA player.

Emmett Sheehan obviously came up as a pitcher, but as far as a position player is concerned, DePaul is the first under Andrew Friedman. at a necessity for sure. Shohei Otani going down. But despite going over the game, Clint, I believe that you liked the approach, perhaps the poise. What did you like about Hoseouet DePaula?

Yeah, I mean, obviously you'd hope for a base knock in there. You'd hope for a dinger or something like that. Just really kind of announce your presence. Not everybody's going to have the type of debut game that somebody like, let's say, Yasio Pueig had, but still, you saw a lot of poise for a 21-year-old there in the box. Really good at bats, great at bat quality. He's somebody who's going to earn his walks, did earn a walk in this game, stole a base until he slid past the base.

And, you know, I think it was Otto Lopez who was there, you know, blocking the bag, couldn't get his foot back there. It is what it is. But, you know, things to build on, looked a little late on the fastball at times, you know, But the first, what, first two at bats, he takes to a full count, or at least the first at bat takes to a full count, flies out to right field, does get the hands in, doesn't get the barrel there. And then you see the walk and you continue, that continues sort of a, just his game. That is who he is.

That's who he's been, I mean, it's admittedly a shorter professional career, but looking the last couple of years where he's really started to stack the numbers at the, A ball level and then into AA. He's somebody who takes a lot of walks. 13.8 walk percentage for him at AA this year, falling into that elite range, which they, you know,

they ballpark. Somebody's going to have different an idea of elite, but like 10% to 15% is an elite walk rate. And that's something he's going to do. Yes, the power is there. You're waiting for the power to happen, but, you know, I'm not upset.

And also, Alana, maybe, maybe bringing up somebody like DePaula all of a sudden lights a little bit more of a fire under somebody like Kyle Tucker's ass. Yeah, you know, it's like, you know, it's a little bit of infusion of youth into an aging roster.

What I noticed about him is when he drew the walk, he kind of did the, you know, the, he kind of hit his chest there a little bit of, you know, he was excited about that. So you see the compete,

as Dave, Dave likes to say. He likes, he likes the, hashtag compete. Hats tag compete. compete. You know, like he walks in that second at batty, then he stole second, as you mentioned, except the part where he kind of overslid over the base. But listen, this is a guy that is excited

to get the opportunity. Obviously, he's absolutely crushing the baseball in AA. He's also putting up unbelievable numbers that you cannot ignore in the minor league levels. So good for him. I mean, again, I would have loved for him to get a knock. He'll get it at some point. Let me ask you this. So somebody asked me this the other day, and you know the rules, but than I, since he came up, or since he was called up after the September 1st call-ups, is he eligible for the postseason roster? Not to say that he's going to be on it, but is he eligible? He is eligible because I forget exactly how the workaround needs to be enacted or,

I don't even know if you're saying that right, but the fact that he's coming up as an injury replacement and is somebody that is in the organization already, that's how they're pretty you know, I think you just got to file a little bit of paperwork and be like, hey, you want this guy? Obviously, show hey, that's the bad news part of it. Of course, Shohei officially put on the I L.A.L. today. They listed it as, you know, right biceps. I think it was right. Right biceps inflammation or something like that. Yeah. I don't know. All I know is it's retroactive until the eighth. But host away to Paula is eligible for the postseason roster. I agree with you. I think that's the case, like because he's an injury replacement.

That is the situation. Are we concerned about Freddie Freeman being out of the lineup with that right knee issue? I mean, this is a kid that never wants to come out. Yeah, I mean, well, there's an old kid now, but it is a little concerning because, you know, we talked about it a little bit yesterday as well. We saw some struggles for Freddie at bat, you know, leading up to this point. and I'm trying to pull up Freddie stats here, so give me a second. But in his recent, you know, recent action, he had been struggling.

You could see the knee is affecting the swing at least to a degree. And, you know, you have this ability right now with Freddie to get him right, the same way they are kind of trying to do with, with Shohei, and something Dave said before. Actually, you know, he said earlier this month, Dave had said that, you know, if there was a playoffs, Sho Hay would be in there, but I don't know.

I don't know how much I buy into that. But with Freddie, you know Freddie's going to be in there, no matter how banged up he is. He had the ankle issue, played all through the World Series in 2024, kept, you know, barking at different points through the 25 season.

Get him right, get the knee good, have him ready to go, you know, by the time game one of the NLDS rolls around because the Dodgers will be the number two seat in the national. a league book it now but yeah there's at least you know an amount of concern because clearly the uh the knee

alana the knee affects him more than that ankle did a couple years ago yeah i mean it's problematic when freddie freeman misses more than one day i mean obviously as much as he wants to be in that lineup but again i think at this point whatever it is 13 games left uh you're going to take guys off of their feet you're going to get them off of their legs you're going to do whatever you can to get guys as much rest as possible because come October, it's game on, right? And the Dodgers obviously have a big enough lead in the division. We know they're winning that division. Yes, seating is still important.

But at this point, you're looking at like, okay, regardless of where we're going to be seated or where we're going or who we're facing, let's just get as healthy as we possibly can. What we haven't talked about yet is Blake Snell on the bump for your boys in blue. Blake Snell, he's just fun. He is a fun dude to watch pitch. It was one of those games where he obviously didn't have his best stuff, did not have his best command particularly of the fastball, particularly early. But he's always going to battle. You see, especially now post-surgery, this was what, His six start post-surgery.

Yep, yep. You see how this guy has won two size. I mean, any time you hear nanoscope procedure, now you're not going to be freaking out, right? You're like, oh, it's just a nanoscope procedure. I mean, Blake's Dell came back from it, and he's looked like Syung since returning from the aisle. 1.04 ERA and six starts.

He entered the game with a 0.93ERA. He finds a way to make it work, leaves his runners on base as he exit. Listen, it's fine. He looks great. I mean, this is what you want, right? He's always been a second half pitcher. I mean, he's certainly rested. God knows the last two seasons in his tenure with the Dodgers.

He is absolutely rusted. No, he looked great tonight. He looked great. Yeah. And again, I'm somebody who has been barking about wanting to see this guy as the game one starter. There are no wrong answers. There are no right answers.

I guess you got upwards of three. upwards of four, but three for sure right answers on who starts game one. But if it's Blake Snell, I am not going to be mad because he has just looked really, really good. He's looked like a Cy Young. He's looked like Siong, since coming off the IL. So that's huge, you know, would have been on the line for him. No earned runs, but a hell of it bat by Augustine Ramirez or Augustine Ramirez. Augustine.

Augustine. Yeah, you know, he works Evan Phillips, who comes on, bottom of the six, two on, two out, and ten pitch battle, won it. You know, the guy who knocked Snow out of the game, I forget who it was, stole a base, might have been Otto Lopez at that point. So pretty close to being a clean inning there and just kind of rattling through the rest of the pitching there. Dodgers, you know, not the cleanest of baseball tonight in some degrees there. We know Kike is not going to be playing first.

base in October. It's so wild to see him in first base. Like it was just, it was odd. I was like, oh. But, you know,

that cost a few more batters for Brock Stewart in the seventh. You know, Blake Trinan didn't do himself any favors in kind of quieting the haters. But I'm still hopeful that that Trinon is going to find something because I just, I like the pulse of Blake Trinan. I'm always going to like that, that pulse and knowing what he, he has done for this team in October in the past.

Hopefully he can kind of, I don't even know if it's right the ship because the ERA doesn't look super terrible. I know people are going to give me crap for that. But yeah, I don't know. I would just, I would, I think a good Blake Trinan makes this Dodgers bullpen a lot better in October because of all of the experience. And finally, our boy, Edgardo, he doesn't earn a save, but he does get the ninth inning. and the Marlins don't score. So ho-hum, eight wins in a row for your boys in blue. Yeah, you know what?

And I can't say it any more poignantly or more eloquently than many, many, many people have said it over the course of the last 25 years. But Richie Flores says no other sport is more associated with American history than baseball rose from the ashes of the Civil War. Got us through two world wars and healed us during 9-11. Amen. And that's why it's the greatest game of them all. Absolutely. I don't care what side of the fence you're on, what side of the aisle you are on.

We needed baseball that day. And it was a special time after the most tragic terrorist attack on our great nation. And baseball kind of provided some much needed levity on that day. And it always does. Yeah. I mean, baseball is here. It's supposed to be it's a kids game that we don't get to think about our daily lives in the menial crap or, the bigger stuff or politics. Put all that aside. Let's support those people that are wearing the uniform color that I like. That's what's great about baseball. I mean, that's what it was, right?

It was like it was about coming together as a nation. And baseball just provided a sense of relief. And, you know, obviously when Jack Buck was talking about it and reading his letter and saying, should we play baseball? Absolutely, we should play baseball. And everything that happened, that day. Anyway, it's, it was, I will always remember exactly where we were on this day,

25 years ago. But it's a, it's a special time to be involved in this game and I'm grateful for it. I want to thank all of you who've kept the memory of that day alive, never forget, my goodness, we are certainly sad and apologize, sad for your loss. That's, it's devastating. I mean, you know, 2,97 people died in the attacks, not to mention all of the others that were lost in the aftermath because of the disease and the asbestos and the, you know,

the heartbreak and the stress and all of the other ones that were the collateral damage, if you will, of what happened on 9-11. Ken Walcott, home run the first game back. Absolutely. You wanted something to cheer about you. I mean, and baseball brought this nation together after the most horrific attack ever on American soil. So there you have it. So that's the real thing.
