Hello everybody and welcome to a live edition of Dodgers territory. That is Clint Paseas. I am
Alana Rizzo. We are your hosts for the next hour here on the Fowel Territory TV channel. We have our own page.
by the way, Clint, just in case those just joining us, needed a reminder. You can actually find us
on Dodgers territory, on YouTube, as well as any place that you get your podcast. Of course, we are
still part of the Fowell Territory family. We just have our own page. It's like the birds are
going out of the nest and we are getting bigger. How was your camping trip? By the way,
Miguel Rojas is coming up on the show. So get your questions in for Miggy Roe. Load up the chat
and we'll have him on in just a few minutes. How was camping, my friend?
Camping is good. I'm going to sound a little rough today, but that means I had a good time at camping and I'm here. So I survived. There were no bear attacks.
Oh, good, good to hear. Yeah, I wonder how much you were possibly screaming at the, not necessarily the television because you weren't glamping, but maybe your phone while watching the Dodgers and the Padres, which leads me to the big ticket.
All right. So how much did you get to see of the three game set?
Definitely got the Twitter highlights.
watch the MLB YouTube channel highlights after the fact,
always paying attention what's going on,
the Dodgers territory, Twitter account,
as well as the foul territory,
Twitter account.
It was an interesting series because there's not a lot
that you can get really, really pissed about as a Dodger fan
or somebody that really expects this team to do well.
They pitch well, they defend really well.
You know, I got to own up and say the things I said about the Padres,
on our Thursday show.
Pitching was very good.
Michael King cruises.
You Darvish cruises, of course, the knuckleballer didn't have the best of time.
Kind of got squeezed on that strike three call that was a ball four for Will Smith
leading to the Teoscar Grand Slam.
But Louisa Rize gets a last laugh and his first laugh against the Dodgers in that game one of the series.
So, you know, hats off to the Padres.
They did what they were supposed to do.
And now the Dodgers can move on.
try to take advantage of a very defeated or, I guess, injured Giants team.
But we'll talk more about that a little bit later on.
Yeah, we're going to get to that series in just a moment.
But the Dodgers haven't beaten the Padres as far as a season series yet.
Are you concerned about that?
Is there a letdown, in your opinion, when the Dodgers and the Padres, not for the
Padres, because I kind of feel like they get up for the games against the Dodgers,
but perhaps are the Dodgers overlooking the Pirates?
I think the Dodgers are going to win the division by 15 games.
But it doesn't mean that you can take interoperating.
division games for granted.
Yeah, I mean, the Dodgers play, we know how this Dodgers team carries themselves.
They don't care about who they're playing that day's game is just about playing the game
the right way, sticking to their game plan.
So I don't think it's so much that they're not getting it up to play the Padres so much
or whatever.
We know the Padres when the Dodgers come to town.
It is their World Series for sure there in San Diego.
We heard Mookie Betts talk about it and get a lot of crap before the season.
about every team's world series will be when the Dodgers come to town or when they play them.
But in San Diego, it is a little bit different.
They do have a little bit more.
It feels like the perception is it feels like they have it kind of maybe had a few more
Red Bulls, a few more cups of coffee.
But we got a guy we can ask about it.
Is we here?
No, I think so.
That's what I'm here.
Okay.
Miguel Rojas.
How are you, my friend, Miggy Roe of the Los Angeles Dodgers, longtime infielder?
Can you believe?
that you've been in the big leagues for 11 seasons?
Well, I guess I have to believe it now because it's happening, you know?
I'm just extremely grateful that I've been able to play for this long.
I mean, my season number 11.
I'm kind of like getting to a point of my career where I know the finish is going to be sooner than rather than later.
But at the end of the day, I just trying to continue to play good ball,
trying to help a team winning a championship and that's what I that's what I'm doing right now.
You do such a good job at it though. I'm so proud of you and I don't mean to sound like your mom
or your or your older sister, but I am proud of you. I mean, I've seen your career the entire time
and the way that you go about your business, always so professional and maybe you've really
evolved into a leader and I find it interesting that you are teaching Muky Betts, an MVP
and a guy that is so unbelievably talented, how to be a better shortstop. I love that.
because you're so good defensively.
What have those conversations been like?
Yeah, it's been an open communication between both of us, you know.
As soon as he received the news that he was going to play shortstop in spring training,
and he knew he was going to take a little bit of time, you know.
It's going to be a process, and everybody in the organization knew that,
I mean, just growing pains will be on the way.
But at the end of the day, it was like mokey desired to get better every single day.
and actually being open to be not taught how to do things.
It's just like for me to be there if you have any questions about experience, you know.
Like for me, I've been playing shortstop my whole kind of life and I'm in the position
and I've been seen it like almost at all, you know, even though in the games you've got new
opportunities, new grand balls, new plays that you're going to kind of have to make.
But at the end of the day, I feel like any question that he can have to have.
or any kind of updates that he needs to have after the game or anything like that,
I can be there for him.
And that's what I'm doing, being a good teammate.
So, Miggie, I'll call you, Miggi, of course, I mentioned a couple times before.
But, you know, a couple weeks ago, the decision was made.
Hey, Mookie Betts, he's going to be there at shortstop every single day.
If he's going to be the guy, might as well keep him in there.
How has that kind of changed your approach to getting ready for a game, maybe being more in that role you anticipated
being in when the Dodgers reacquired you before last season, playing some second base a lot now,
maybe mixing it at third. I'm sure you'll get some short sub-time, but how has that affected your day-to-day?
No, my day-to-day having changed, you know, I'm just going to be ready to play whenever my name is
on the lineup, and I just got to prepare every single day to give us the extends kind of quality
of things that we have, you know. We just don't have the first four or five guys in the lineup.
We need to count on everybody to win a championship. So for me, having anything like having changed
in ways of preparation, I just need to prepare to play a little bit more in another position,
which is second base. And that's the only thing that changed for me in a daily routines.
But at the end of the day, I just want to keep providing our team and the manager, the best
shortstop defensively that we have in the league.
And I think and I believe that I can still be that.
So if I if I continue to prove that I can be the short step,
if something happened regardless of the decision that they make,
that's what that's the only thing I can control.
But a great defensive second baseman too yesterday,
which was more difficult of a play, McGee,
the play at the bottom of the second where you didn't get the guy out,
but just by like seven greens of salt, Joe Davis said on the broadcasts,
or seven grades of sand, I should say,
or the play at the bottom of the third
were you able to pick the guy on a short hop?
Both of those plays, back-to-back innings,
beautiful defensive work by you.
Which one's more difficult?
Well, we got the out on the first one too
because the play got reviewed and we got the out of second base,
which is, I mean, I wish we could have the double play.
But that's a tough play right there.
Like when you got to go off the middle,
dive at first, then look for your short stuff
and trying to give him a good feat,
I think that was more of a talent.
plate, I think. I use my talent to actually make the play. But the only one was like pure luck,
you know, like it hit it so hard, one or eight right at me. The only thing that I could do was
like trying to get as slow as possible, trying to pick the ball and make the play. So yeah,
I mean, I have to take the, I mean, I have to be proud that I make the play. But I feel like
sometimes in those places, you just throw your glove out there and let the ball kind of find you.
The first one for me was a little bit more of me, talented, you know, reaching over the second base back,
and diving for that ball and giving a boogie a good feat so he can actually touch it back.
So I'm feeling pretty good at second base right now, and I found a lot of the phone for it.
What's the adage?
They say it's better to be lucky than good.
Luckily, you are both of those when you are playing anywhere on that infield.
Another guy we've seen step up a lot on that infield defense.
which I think is rated number one in baseball at the moment.
You guys have been phenomenal.
But a question comes from Richie here in our live chat asking about Max Muncie,
his improvement at third base.
And that has been phenomenal to watch Muncie kind of get pissed at himself
for not performing how he wanted last year at third.
And now becoming kind of a beast over there at third base.
What have you seen for Max?
Yeah, no, he went into all season last year with a plan, you know,
of getting better defensively at third base,
knowing that he was going to be there.
Remember, like last year was the first time
that he came back full-time to third base.
And we, I mean, we all got to, like, put things in perspective, you know?
Like, yeah, we all want to do and we want to get the job done right away.
But sometimes it takes time, you know,
and that's what people, like, sometimes he gets desperate a little bit,
and we all know we're going to take all the accountability
of, like, getting better every single day.
But that was Max Monce did.
You know, he went into the off-season.
He got a small glove.
He went every single day and got ground balls with that small glove.
And I think everything kind of taken of himself when he started working on the specific things that he needs to work on.
Playing third base every single day is a thing that he's been doing now for a year and a half.
Knowing that, I mean, third base is a primary position, but he was bouncing back and forward between second, first base and third base.
So in my eyes, it's just like the comfort of being in there every single day, knowing that.
you work on whatever you need to work on, especially when in the first game of the season,
he made a couple errors. After that, it's been like amazing. It's being 100% every ball that he
has to him, not just a routine grambles, but I'm making diving plays, making all the place
that you can ask for. So I think it's being overlooked a little bit because, I mean, everybody
spec that he's supposed to be that good at third base, but it's not. It's work and it's work ethic.
And it's a kind of mentality that we have right now
that we want to be a really good defensive thing.
You get to pick up your 10-year chip in August,
which means that you're fully vested,
which is such a wonderful thing in a major league career
because not many people get to do that, McGee.
But I want to ask you about playing with pressure
and playing when you know you have a job.
And the reason I ask you that is because Gavin Lux,
obviously, was supposed to be the starting shortstop in spring training.
That didn't work out.
That's why you're getting a lot more play.
playing time. That's why Mookie is at short. But Clinton and I have had this conversation that
you know exactly who you are. You know the type of player that you are. People know who you are.
So there's not necessarily that same type of pressure on you perhaps than is on Gavin that if he
doesn't go four for five or he makes an error. He's always looking over his shoulder to see
somebody else coming. Is that fair to say? And do you remember what that experience was like for you
earlier on in your career?
Yeah, I think all the players have to go through that, you know,
and it will just make you tougher, you know?
At the beginning, things can go either way.
It can go good or bad.
But at the end of the day, is how you respond to that,
how you continue to work hard to be the player that you want to be.
And instead of, like, putting all those,
I've seen so many times the organization put a ceiling on players
and say, oh, these players can't hit like they did with me, you know?
this player is going to be just a defensive replacement shortstop that he can catch a ball,
that he's just going to play to this level.
And then it's all to me to kind of like go through those to that ceiling, you know,
same way in the other way around.
Sometimes team puts you a ceiling that you're supposed to have like 800 OPS or that you have
to hit this home runs or you have to do this or you have to do that.
And then you start living with that kind of pressure.
And that's kind of like the stay of very big.
baseball, you know, like you have to play through those moments and through those expectations
from people. But at the end of the day, it's about you, how you respond to like the good or
bats. And I know it's being at the beginning of the season, offensively, it's being more bad
than good for Gavin. But I feel like he's going to find himself, you know, he's going to refine
himself. He's going to know what he's good at throughout all this time that he's playing and
he's getting regular time at second base. And hopefully, from these moments, we can have the
Gavin Loxa that we wanted in spring training from the second half of the year or from June on or
May 15 or whatever it is today on. I feel like these moments happens to everybody in baseball
and it's all about how you respond to that and what kind of player you want to be.
Hello, hello. I'm Malcolm Gladwell, host of Smart Talks with IBM. I recently spoke with IBM's
new director of research, Jake Gambata. We discussed his vision for the future of quantum computing.
At IBM research, what we always do is answer what is the future of computing,
whether it's coming up with new algorithms, coming up with better AI, coming up with quantum,
or coming up with just how do different accelerators go together.
It's our DNA to answer the question of what is the future.
Isn't it a perfect problem for IBM because you kind of need to have a legacy of building stuff?
Yes.
Building actual physical machines.
Yeah, it's why I came to IBM.
I wanted the experience, the culture of building hard things that others have not done before.
Where do you imagine we are in the timeline of this technology?
There will come a point when it will mature.
Right?
Yeah.
My cell phone is a mature technology at this point.
How far are we from that point with Conton?
By 2029, we'll build the first fault-tolerant quantum computer.
That is one that can run a very, very large.

I'm a switch gears slightly for you here. I had a question DM to me.
They wanted me to ask you. A fan of our show wanted me to ask you.
I'll bring up Muncie again. Muncie was on foul territory last year.
Talking about you, your introduction into the clubhouse, how important you became to that clubhouse.
And talking about the toast, I know you were the guy who was a big spearhead behind.
You win that series. You celebrate that.
you enjoy the fruits of your your victories there.
Is that something that's still going on this season?
You guys still having the celebration toast.
And if so, hey, is Showing Otani a drinker?
What does he go to with you guys partying there in the clubhouse?
Yeah, we are.
We still doing it.
We're still celebrating a little victories.
And I feel like that's something that, I mean, Jason Hayward last year,
that David Perrault, that we have on the team, myself.
And a couple new guys on the team last year,
we kind of like figure out that I mean this team is getting used to win games you know like we we
used to win a lot of games in the regular season and then I feel like there's a I heard you guys
talking before I jump in about the series against the Padres right so it's not about like who we
facing in this series it's about winning that series and celebrating every little victory that we
get along the way because it's a long season you know like we don't know how
many games we're going to win at the end of the year. What we're going to wait for? We want to
wait for like us getting to the playoffs so we can celebrate something. I think we should like
get a little bit more of joy and cheer with your teammates. The little things that are happening
throughout the year so we can have a better chemistry going into what we want to get. We want to
go into the post season. We want to win games in there too when the pressure is on. So we want
to put pressure on ourselves every single series because we want to win every single. We want to win
every single series and every time that we get we do that or we sweep a series we go and
celebrate and we have a little toast we talk about who was the best player in that series
who deserved to be the speaker at the end of the at the end of the series and obviously
show has been the best player of the series a lot of time this year so yeah it's been drinking
and it's not a choice of drink it's just like a battle of something that we have
for that day. We have chats and I mean, I think it's been taking more than the not.
I love it. I love it. You got to live in the moment, McGee, because you don't know when it's all
going to go before we let you go. And thank you so much for your time being here. I know you
guys have to get to the park to take on the Giants. But what was it like being behind Bueller again?
I mean, this is a guy obviously two starts back from being off of, you know, Tommy John's surgery
hasn't pitched in the big leagues in two years. What was it like having him back on the mound?
What did you see from him?
For the whole organization and for the people that knows Dodgers and know the organization,
what this guy has done for the team.
And for him, for himself, to be back on the mound, it's being a really good feeling
that we have Walker back and playing behind yesterday.
All you want to do is like make every play and do whatever you can do to help this guy get
back in track, you know.
I was talking to him yesterday after the game.
he was, it was feeling way, so, like, way better about the second start than the first one.
So, and he's telling me while driving me on my shoulder that he's getting closer and closer.
So I believe that because, I mean, we talk about process and we talk about, like, letting the players
kind of, like, have their time to get back in track and get back to their self.
Same thing is going to happen here with Walker, you know, like, it's really hard, you know,
like we all know that we want him to go seven shorties right away.
with 14 strikeout.
That's what everybody wants, you know.
But at the end of the day, we have to understand that the variables in this game.
And the other team is trying to do and accomplish something too, you know.
I mean, he got hurt by two homers right there in the first inning, two pitches that they were like,
I mean, really good pitches and I mean, he's facing good hitters, you know?
At the end of the day, he's going to have to find out again, like what he needs to do to get those seven shorties or eight innings.
But the velocity is there.
He's feeling good.
And hopefully we can get the Walker Bueller that we all want from now on.
Miguel Rojas, it's always a pleasure to talk to you.
Clint and I, thank you very much for being here.
Best of luck against the Giants in this upcoming series and continued health and success to you.
Thank you, Alana and Clayton.
Appreciate it for the opportunity.
And it's good to see you guys again.
It's great to see you as well.
It is time now as Clinton and I move on here for Behind the Seams.
Let's get to it.
first of all that was awesome mcgill rohuss is one of the coolest kids in uh i can call him a kid
because i literally could be everyone's mother but he i mean i remember when he came up and here he is
in august picking up his 10 year chip was such it which is such a huge deal all right tyler glasnout
clint pesias when you were out glamping i tweeted this that uh this was exactly what the dodgers
needed when they signed him this guy's been nothing but an ace yeah you make that trade you got a little
bit of a is this is this going to be the only guy they get they immediately give him that that big time
extension and my god this guy needs more money on that extension because he is exactly what this
team needed 10 k's over seven innings in his uh in his dominant start against the podres this
weekend 10 k's in three of his last four outings uh he's just looking dominant everything is
is working for him and the important thing is he's healthy he's staying healthy and he's given this team
a true workhorse and a true ace.

It's not just that, though.
He's going deep into games.
And Blake Harris had a great tweet talking about the fact that games with seven or more

Four.
He had six total between 2016 and 2020.

until now, Dustin May, Tony Gonsling, Clayton Kirschaw, Bobby Miller on and on and on and on.
Tyler Glass now has been money.
I can't thank him enough for what he's done for this team.
It's fun to watch him.
He's a throwback pitcher, it feels like to me, but just nasty.
He's a gross out, I guess you can say.
He's not an out, but he's really nasty at getting out.
So that's all I got to say.
So he's not, he's an outman.
Is that what you're trying to say, Clint?
I don't be James, but that's a different show.
We should probably talk about outman on like a Thursday show or something like that.
What about Vizia?
This is a guy that at the beginning of the season, I was like,
ooh, I don't know about this, but he has really come into his own.
I love the emotion.
He's a lot more consistent now.
Lowered as ERA to 1-4-7 after his outing on Sunday against the pods.
Alex Vescia, as soon as he found that slider this season,
you know, he's still going to be a little while.
He's one of those effectively wild guys.
He might walk a few people here and there.
He might give up a hit, but he limits the damage.
He's fun to watch.
He's got that strut, that K-strut going right now.
He knows he's got to pitch a little bit quicker.
He did.
He was one of those guys that had a hard time.
adjusting to the pitch clock.
He did admit that he had some toughness.
It was a bit of an adjustment period last year going up and down from the big
leagues of AAA and all that.
But Vesia looking really, really nasty and looking like, yeah, like you said,
he was somebody, a lot of people identified as a question mark.
But now not.
This is one of those guys that's in there and even earned a save in the absence of Evan
Phillips.
And he's just, he's a dude.
He's absolutely a dude in that bullpen right now.
He's a dude. You know what? We have a quote or a tweet from Max wants to know from you.
If he can suggest a topic here on Dodgers territory, always Max, you're always welcome here.
Do the Dodgers have firm performance issues against the Padres?
You just heard Miguel Rojas talk about it? No, not necessarily.
Just often seems like they're disinterested in games.
I don't think there's any team that the Dodgers are disinterested in.
I just think that sometimes the Padres get up for the games more than the Dodgers or you know what?
they played a really good series.
Give credit to the Padres.
They had a clean series.
It's not like the Dodgers got blown out of Petco Park.
I mean, they only gave up, what, six runs over the whole series?
I mean, the pitching was great and the defense was great.
The bats just weren't there.
Yeah.
I mean, I don't know that the Padres want it more, but like we were talking about before welcoming
Miggy Row, it's, it's every team is going to feel like it's the World Series when they're playing
the Dodgers.
The Dodgers don't care about.
Their fans through a parade.
They, like, throw like these, like, it's.
It's like the NBA in season tournament.
The Padres are like throwing, like, okay, I apologize, Padres fans.
I don't apologize.
They do get mad, but no, they deserve, the Padres deserve some credit, you know,
watching the highlights from the weekend.
It's a good looking team.
It's a better looking team than we saw last year right now.
I don't know if it's playing under Mike Schilt instead of Bob Melvin.
I don't know if it's, you know, sending Juan Soto and his bad vibes out of that clubhouse,
whatever it is. So far this season, the Padres look a lot a bit better than they did at any
point last season. They've now won. I think it's four series in a row. So hats off to them.
They're a good team and good teams in the NL West make the Dodgers should make the Dodgers that
much better. I don't know why the San Diego Padre or the St. Louis Cardinals let Mike Schult go.
I never understood that. Look at what the Cardinals have done the last couple of seasons.
But that's for another time, perhaps a Cardinals territory on foul territory. Maybe that's coming up.
What do you think about the supposed second city connect jersey that has apparently been leaked?
I will believe it more when I see it.
Like, what is that room?
There's also like a fake inflatable, well, the kids will call it a blunt.
I don't know if we can allow to say that here on the internet.
But they get that raw on top of there.
I'll tell you when you're older, Alana.
But anyways, that's what they're going with.
I mean, I've seen better slow pitch softball jerseys out there in my years playing low pitch
It looks like funfetti.
The funfetti.
If you look back at it,
wow, that sounded like a different territory too.
There's a bunch of like colored specs.
Is that a funfetti cake?
I don't know.
I don't know if this is actually the jersey or not.
But, you know, we just, the Dodgers had one last year.
Did we not like those?
Is that why we get a second one?
Or is it just because it's the Dodgers?
They've had, they've had the first one where it was like the all blue pajamas
that nobody liked.
I wasn't psyched about that.
Yeah.
They're a little bit better.
Or can we just get rid of the stupid city connects?
Like, if you don't have a good one, you don't need to have one.
Some of the teams have some really good city connect.
Yeah, but you can't be the Los Angeles Dodgers and not have a city connect jersey.
Like, that's just crazy.
Some of them are pretty sweet.
Some of them are pretty sick.
Like, I love Boston's.
Detroit's is pretty sick.
I like Phillies.
Cleveland's isn't, you know, it's not bad.
I don't like the Giants.
though I don't like the science one and I really didn't like LA's either yeah so do you like the
Dodgers one more or do you like that that that weird like I've seen some people call it like an ice
cream cone or whatever the pod you the thing the Padres wear I'm not can call it looks like it looks like
it looks like a it looks like a dream sickle the Padres I mean I don't care I mean whatever
I think the best one though I'd have to say is Boston the you know the yellow with the numbers six
you know 607 or whatever the hell it is here I live in I live in Boston by the way I don't even know
what the hell are area code is
All right. Yeah, so there you have it.
I don't know, it's fine.
If you want to send us a jersey so we can actually check it out,
Dodgers, go to LA Dodgers territory,
and I'm sure you can find our address.
We'll just send it straight to Clint's house.
He'll be waiting for the Amazon truck to drive up.
All right, time now for last licks.
Our pup of the week, Clint is Mo.
He is being taken care of by real hounds rescue.
He is definitely in need of a look how cute this dog is.
He's four years old.
He gets along well with other dogs.
He gets along well with kids.
He's just a sweetheart.
If you're looking for a pup to add to your family,
I will never say that dogs are 100% hypoallergenic.
That is a myth.
But he doesn't shed too much.
So if you do have some allergies in your home,
this might be the perfect pup for you.
I think he would look great at the Pesias household.
Yeah, we already got two dogs and three cats.
I might send him over to the mother-in-law instead.
She needs another one.
And that one would match very well in her backyard.
It would match.
Wait a minute, in her backyard.
Only dogs that live inside are allowed.
It's free range.
It's free range.
You go in and out and have your fun.
You know,
don't poop inside.
You poop outside.
No,
no,
I mean,
yeah,
of course.
I mean,
does she have to tell you that too when you met her daughter?
I mean,
okay.
No,
when we went camping this weekend,
there was a lot of,
you know,
don't,
don't poop in here.
Go over there.
And I figured.
Good.
The reminder.
The reminder is key.
Okay.
So the Giants and the Dodgers
starting a series today,
obviously,
uh,
in Sanford.
Francisco. What's the one takeaway you need to see from this upcoming series?
Well, you kind of got, I wouldn't say you got punch in the face a little bit there in San Diego,
but things didn't go the way you want. So in San Francisco, a team that is beat up bad.
You think the Dodgers have a bad when it comes to players on the injured list?
I think the entire Giants roster is currently on the IL. So you got to take advantage of that.
Beat teams you're supposed to beat. That's what the Los Angeles Dodgers do. Go in there, beat these
giant so that's a takeaway take advantage of the situation i agree with you but i don't even need them to
beat them i need it to be a laffer every game if you have the majority of your roster on the iL
that's something that you have to take advantage of clint i remember somebody saying one time
if you see your enemy drowning shove a hose in their mouth that's what i'm talking about
i need them to be waterboarded as far as if you are that depleted the dogs need to take
advantage of that. And again, I think the Dodgers are going to be winners of the division by 15
games, but you're supposed to kill that you're supposed to crush these teams, right? I mean,
no excuses. There's no reason that the Dodgers can't go in there as talented as they are.
And at least if nothing else, take two or three, if not sweep them right out of Oracle.
Is it sweep the leg, right? You sweep the leg. They're down. They're hurt.
That's right. Put a hose in their mouth of their drowning. That's how we do it. All right,
what's coming up? On Thursday, we are light of again, but you also have your all Dodgers.
podcast as well. What can they expect tonight?
