Starting point is 00:00:00 College football will hijack your weekend, ruin your sleep, and break your heart. And that's why we make the Solid Verbal College Football Show. I'm Ty Hildenbrand. He's Dan Rubinstein. Every week we preview the games that matter and the storylines that are going to ignite your group chat. And you can join us in the aftermath as we react to what happened, why it matters, and how the sport went completely bonkers yet again. Listen to the Solid Verbal College Football Show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:00:32 When teenager Joy Morgan discovered the religious group, Israel United in Christ, she believed she'd found the truth. Many believe she found a cult. Then she disappeared. The new podcast, The Missing Sister, explores her story, the family she left, and the religious group she found.
Starting point is 00:00:48 You know when you get that feed, I'm like, I don't want to be here. I want to get out. I can I want to go ahead now. All episodes available now to Bench. Listen to The Missing Sister on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever. you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:02 I'm Munga Chitigler and I'm back with a new season of my podcast, Skyline Drive. This time I talk to scientists, biopunks, kermudgens, blues owners, super seniors, and Goa's top cryotherapy lab to try to understand this obsession with living forever and what it means for all of us. And I get into a bit of trouble along the way. I'd say probably start bone smashing. That doesn't work. To make it look more defined.
Starting point is 00:01:25 They say it works. I don't know. Listen to Skyline Drive, How to Live Forever on the I Heart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. But yeah, they come from ahead to win. Max Muncie swinging the silver hammer there, to borrow from Tim Nebrick, gets the RBI single to walk us off in extra innings.
Starting point is 00:01:56 Oh my goodness. Hello, everybody. And welcome to a brand new live episode of Dodgers Territory, the post game edition on this Tuesday evening, August 12th. Oh, my goodness. It is 1 a.m. in Massachusetts. Thank you. Thank you, Max Muncie. Alana Rizzo, Clint Paseas with you. Happy to be with you guys. Get your thoughts in the chat. I'm sure you have many. Clint,
Starting point is 00:02:21 I know you are chomping at the bit to get on your vacation and the Dodgers have sent you off. In walk-off fashion, Max Muncie winning the game. How are you? Better now. This was a, this game was a lot. It was cruising for a while. Still, I mean, this is a very good baseball game. This is a type of, if you're trying to get somebody to get into the game of baseball to watch baseball, this on a Tuesday night, like, hat tip to both these teams. Yes, I understand. The Royals are ass. The Dodgers should be taking it to them a little bit better, but I don't care. Listen, the Royals played the Dodgers very well. Yeah. I mean, like I said, I said on a post game last night, this is their World Series, of course. But yeah, they come from ahead to win. Max Muncie.
Starting point is 00:03:10 Swinging the silver hammer there, to borrow from Tim Nevers, gets the RBI single to walk us off in extra innings. The Ghostrunner scores. A hell of a game from Mark Betts, as I call him these days, because that fixed them. Top of the lineup for the greater part didn't do very much, but Dodgers win. Yeah, this is what we want. We're seeing the chat already excited, seeing some people talking about Muncie, wondering about, Why would you not pitch to tuck her in? Instead, she was Muncie clearly.
Starting point is 00:03:44 They haven't watched so much Dodger baseball. It's me, EC, with that comment there. Yeah, this was a grinded out type of win. This is what it's taken lately in terms of Dodger wins. It hasn't been anything that's come easy to this club. They've scuffled mightily when it comes to offense. Again, it hasn't been the pitching to start. We'll talk about Blake Snell momentarily.
Starting point is 00:04:06 Welcome back, sir. But Super Chat, 199 from Fritz. Ritsy the dog. That was a nail biter. Snell shoved go Dodgers. It was. It was a nail biter. I mean, it was like, again, that whole type of like grounded. Oh, Richie Flores is back 104 a.m. Eastern Time. So you work in Alana DeVore Man is nice this time of a year. Good to see you, Richie Flores, 83 and 95. Yeah, it was a grinder of a win. We'll take it. But you know what? Some talking points. Let's talk about that. Um, yeah, bullpen, bullpen struggling a little bit. They continue to struggle, Clint. Let's, let's soak in the, the, the, the, the good part before we get into the bad part. Okay, sure.
Starting point is 00:04:48 We, we can do that. Because I want to talk more about, again, uh, mooki here. It's been an interesting little, uh, you know, a couple of weeks off of interesting couple of seasons for mooky, bets. You see him here today with the, the three hits, uh, about a week removed from a four hit game. And it's, it feels like every time I'm out. about to be like fully out. It's like, you know, he pulls us right back in. This is a guy. We've talked a lot about Mooky Betts and just needing to get him going. How big it would be
Starting point is 00:05:19 if Mooky Betts is alive and well in the lineup for this team heading into October. You see, you know, he hits the first homer of the game. He's excited about, they're talking about him pumping his fist in the dugout, how important that was for him, an RBI double or a double later in the game, run scores, RBI single also in this game as well. Like he, in the past, he has been the guy who has, you know, stirred the drink for the Dodgers. And obviously, he's not the guy who won it, but he's a big part of why they won this game. And I think why so many people, you know, why we're just waiting for Mookie as, you know, he is as well, waiting for Mookie to go back to fully be in Mookie Betts.
Starting point is 00:06:05 I don't know that that's a possibility, though. I mean, have we gotten to the point where Mookie Betz perhaps is not going to be the guy that we hope he regresses back to? You know what I mean? Or progresses back to if that even makes any sense? I mean, this might be who Mookiee Betz is at this point in his career. And it just, I think it is magnified because the Dodgers have scuffled over the last, you know, eight, nine, ten games. But, I mean, it's a good game for him. Three for four.
Starting point is 00:06:33 You mentioned it. his 14th home run of the season, his 13th double of the season. This might just be who Mookiee Betz is at this point in his career. But again, the defense has not slumped. And this might be what we can ask for at this point. I think everybody is kind of getting older. I mean, we've talked about it a lot, but, you know, Mookie Betts is one year.
Starting point is 00:06:58 I mean, it's obviously this whole team is. But this is something that we get to the point, where we're so greedy that we want these guys to be, you know, five for five every single day. And that's not it, but he had a great game today. You know, and just like you said, like, just when you think he's like we're out on him or he's not, you know, he's out, he reels us right back in.
Starting point is 00:07:20 Yeah. And, you know, that's huge, you know, because top of the order now shift into some of the bad parts of this game. This was a lot, a lot harder fought of a win than it should have been. The top of the lineup, one through four goes one for 60. with a walk in there. Both of the base runners were Andy Paez. Of course, you also get the intentional walk to Freddie in there.
Starting point is 00:07:42 I don't really count that for much of anything. But whatever. We'll stick with the positive there. The Dodgers win. The offense does just enough. We call this a winning streak now, Rez. This is two wins in a row. I'm about to go on vacation,
Starting point is 00:07:55 which means they're going to rattle off another five wins in a row. And then everything's good. You can't have three and four and five and six and seven without one and two, right? So maybe this is the flip that this team needed. I mean, Dave Roberts said, listen, you got to hone in on, you know, this is not about the effort here. This is about honing in on getting to be a better baseball team because right now they have not looked like the number one team in the National League. And that's, I'd rather, I'd rather see it in the dog days of August, mid-August, basically, than in not. October. Yeah, that's a great point because Dave threw down the gauntlet yesterday to this team.
Starting point is 00:08:37 He didn't like some of what he was hearing, you know, from the clubhouse, particularly Freddie Freeman, who had said, you know, we know we're a good team, which is, yeah, they are a good team and they will be fine. But I can understand the frustration for Dave hearing that. You don't want to hear that. You want to see, well, Dave wanted to see a little bit more urgency. And that's what he said, you know, we're a wild card team right now. You got to play with urgency. get ahead of the playoff situation. He does not want to be playing
Starting point is 00:09:04 in a three-game series because you introduce so many variables when you're talking about playing in a three-game wildcard series. So, you know, you're seeing a little more urgency. You're seeing, you know, really good at bat from Alex Call
Starting point is 00:09:19 in this game as well, shooting one down the right field line. Just overall, a better brand of, of situational hitting, I guess we can say. That's the big difference maker. You start to do that. You play clean baseball on the defensive side,
Starting point is 00:09:39 and you're going to probably win more baseball games than you lose. Dave Roberts specifically said it's not trying harder. It's just more honing your focus. That's what I see as urgency. Every play matters. We got to go. Today was a good start. This was talking about yesterday's game.
Starting point is 00:09:56 Saw this much more last line, including aggression on the base paths, and Edwin Dias coming out in attack mode. That's from Katie Wu, of course, who is in the Dodgers' dugout and Clubhouse right now after this game. You can check her out at the athletic. Super Chat, Sal V-1151, 499. We appreciate you at the again today and same energy carryover from yesterday.
Starting point is 00:10:16 Snell and Muncie coming in clutch season turnaround. I don't know that we needed a turnaround, but we certainly needed a turnaround for the last couple of weeks. Another Handles ice cream for the win. There you go. Court for medical Superchat 999, Lofton struck out twice in the eighth. Can't wait for challenging available for check swings.
Starting point is 00:10:34 Ups suck. Go Dodgers, a series win. Thanks, guys. Is that getting too far into it, though? Do we slow down the game even more if we start challenging checks, check swing calls? You can get it right, I guess. You can.
Starting point is 00:10:49 I don't know. I don't know. I'll just say, I'm just happy for the 499 Superchat. Thank you so much on that. Fritzie the dog, three doubles. in a row is better than giving up two triples. Thank you. That's science.
Starting point is 00:11:01 That's science right there. Hashtag math, baby. All right, we got the good stuff out of the way. We got more good stuff to talk about. We're going to talk for a second about seat geek, and then we will come back and talk about the bad stuff with the bullpen. But first, like I said, we're going to talk about seat geek here. Good part of the schedule here coming up.
Starting point is 00:11:27 This weekend, you got Milwaukee. Of course, you got one more still against the Kansas City Royals here in L.A. But the Brewers come into town, get yourself some tickets, everybody, with our friends at Seatgeek. They have over 35 million downloads. Seat Geek is the number one rated ticketing app. You know this. You can get tickets to a Dodger game, concerts, festivals, and more. You save on baseball tickets using that QR code and the promo code you see on the screen.
Starting point is 00:11:57 But C-Geek has your back because every ticket is based on a scale of 1 to 10. Riz, you know, you get the green means good and the red means bad. That's right. Every ticket backed by their buyer guarantee. And of course, we have a code for you guys. You can use code Territory 10 for 10% off your next set of MLB tickets at C-Geek. That's 10% off any major league baseball tickets, this upcoming weekend series with the Brewer's accounts. Territory 10 is your code.
Starting point is 00:12:21 Make sure you click the link in the description to download the app and have the code automatically added to your account so you can use it later. An IHeart Radio experience with Cameron Wickham. Live at the Rhyman. Ask me how I'll be to say I'm great. You and a pal with flights and two nights in Nashville. To see Cameron Wickham at the legendary Rhyman Auditorium. Plus a thousand dollar spending cash.
Starting point is 00:12:49 Just listen to Pure Country for 10 minutes a day on the free IHart Radio app and you're in to win. Stream the new single Kingdom of Fear. Available now. Thank you, Seek. We appreciate you very much. All right, let's talk a little bit about the bullpen. This is an interesting situation. We've talked about the fact that the bullpen has scuffled, right?
Starting point is 00:13:13 And it's not just recently, Clint. They were not good, obviously, since July. I mean, this is a bullpen that, you know, Team 390, ERA in August, 472 since start of July. you better hope that this bullpen is better in October because you're going to assume that Roki is going to be in the bullpen, perhaps Robo, just based on the amount of starters that they're going to need, Jester Obleski likely in the bullpen as well. So you have reinforcements later in the season,
Starting point is 00:13:43 but right now this is not a bullpen that is worth talking about in a positive manner. Yeah, you know, we'll give a hat tip to Alex Vescia tonight, held down his inning, Edgaro Henriquez. keeping things level in the ninth. And how about Seth, Seth Halverson making his Dodger debut? Right. Welcome.
Starting point is 00:14:03 Welcome. Welcome. Thrown right into the flipping fire there. Ghostrunner on second base. And yeah, he holds the lowly royals. That's right. I'm going to throw him further under the bus. Those holds the royal scoreless in that top of the tent to set up the walk off there for Max Muncie.
Starting point is 00:14:22 So, but yeah, Phillips, it's funny, you and I were talking. during that whole meltdown or just after that meltdown. And with Phillips, it's so tough because the stuff still looks really good. And he actually had rattled off a pretty good stretch here in the month of August. He had been scoreless or not scored on here in the month of August was really, really bad coming back from that elbow surgery and the rehab in the month of July. But this one, you know, three runs there, two earned, I believe were the numbers. and, you know, coming off of the struggles from Jack Dreyer last night who had to come in and clean things up for Phillips tonight and then Edwin Diaz a couple times over the weekend.
Starting point is 00:15:09 You know, it's one of those situations, Alana, where it's just like when it rains, it's going to pour for the Dodgers and they're going to find new and interesting ways to lose. Or in this case, last night and tonight, new and interesting ways to kind of give us heart attacks. It felt like a heart attack. I mean, it feels like you don't have that. Every time the phone rings, you're not certain what you're going to get. And I don't like that when it comes to the bullpen, right? You want not just your closer, obviously, Edwin Diaz, who's had his struggles as of late as well. You want to be able to count on every single person that is going to be called upon when Dave puts up whatever arm he's going to put up to the next guy coming out of the bullpen.
Starting point is 00:15:50 And I just don't have the confidence right now. I feel like they're going to turn it around. I feel like, you know, as much as an offense can slump a bullpen collectively can slump at the same time. And I think it's just being magnified again because they've struggled. They haven't looked like a World Series team right now over the course of the last eight to 10 games. I believe that this is going to change as well. But Evan Phillips, you know, he has some decent spots in there. But he hasn't looked like the guy that we were hoping to get.
Starting point is 00:16:19 Remember when we're like, oh, we can't wait until Evan Phillips comes off of the IL. oh man, Evan Phillips is coming back. And you're obviously going to have Edwin Diaz coming back and all of the things. He hasn't looked like that Evan Phillips yet. Hopefully he'll get there. Yeah, that's a big thing. And with the state of the bullpen, obviously Blake Trinand injured, not necessarily effective earlier in the year. And he was the guy.
Starting point is 00:16:40 We haven't even talked Blake Snell. We will get to Blake Snell because that tip to that guy as well in his second return this year. But he was a guy who was placed on this 60th or transferred to the state. are transferred to the 60-day IL to bring Blake's now back, but you don't have him, you don't have a good version of Evan Phillips, you didn't have Edwin Diaz for a majority of the season. You still got guys kind of figuring out some of their roles in there.
Starting point is 00:17:05 Will Klein was obviously somebody Dave turned to a lot early in the season. The elbow started barking on him. Good news with him. He had mentioned today that starting to feel a little bit better. The rest has already made the arm calm down. So with the bone chips, so they're hoping that he's, is hoping that he doesn't need to undergo like any sort of surgical intervention with that that maybe he can come back and pitch and be an option but yeah like right now these dudes just if dave challenged the you know the offense the bats yesterday i think we got to see a little bit of throwing down the gauntlet for the bullpen here because it's been a problem for the last two months it has been a problem and i think one thing that we've noticed too and i talked about this on a different show earlier today this is
Starting point is 00:17:52 is a thing. We can't just rest on the laurels of the Dodgers that, oh, they're so good, oh, they're going to figure it out. And I believe that. I still believe they win the division by a number of games. I still believe that this is a World Series championship team. But it just goes to show you that this is not an infallible team, right? That goes to show you that it's not a team that is impervious to loss. That's impervious to getting beat by lesser quality opponents just based on on statistics, on numbers, on players, on those types of things. There are some holes. And maybe it's all just all happening right now.
Starting point is 00:18:26 And we're noticing it more because the offense has scuffled Dave Roberts, you know, saying like, listen, we've kind of played like a wild card team or a wild card team right now. We have to get going and play with urgency. We have to make sure we don't get ahead of the playoff situation and talk about winning now, winning today, winning tomorrow. The part that we're going to be okay and we're good, that's not good enough. Clearly, it's not given how we've played over the last month. And he's right. And I'm just reading what, you know, a quote from what day. Dave said. You can't just assume that this team is going to roll right into the playoffs and roll over
Starting point is 00:18:57 everybody, especially in the National League. So it just seems like, you know, well, you got some things to work on. And here's, here's some obvious, obvious things to, God, game 120 of 162. That's insane. 42 games left. That's crazy. Jackie Robinson, number of games, kids. It's going to be over before you know it. So let's fix this stuff now. All right. Let's take another quick pause here. We got a bunch of super chats, friends hanging out in the chat. We're going to take some more comments and all that. We also, after the break, we're going to talk about Blake Snell because he was nasty tonight.
Starting point is 00:19:34 We'll be right back. Welcome back. Science experiment for the one minute we had to tell you about why we love Quince electrolytes, including watermelon salt, raspberry salt, and I'm holding a citrus salt. Just opened it. I'm going to pour some powder into my water, shake it up. And AJ, why do you love it? I love Quince because after a long night out, a long day at the gym, a long walk in this Florida humidity, it tastes great, and it gives me all the electrolytes I need. Why?
Starting point is 00:20:00 Sugar-free, stevia-free, keto-approved, and taste sweet because of that delicious fermented rice. It does taste really good. I'm drinking it right now while we're talking about it. It's also made in the USA rigorously third-party tested. Give your body what it really needs to stay hydrated. Starting point is 00:20:40 Live at the Rhyman. You and a pal with flights and two nights in Nashville. To see Cameron Wickcombe at the legendary Riemann Auditorium. Plus, a thousand-dollar spending. Just listen to Pure Country for 10 minutes a day on the free IHart radio app, and you're in to win. Cameron Whitcomb. Stream the new single, Kingdom of Fear. Available now.
Starting point is 00:21:10 All right. Appreciate them for being a part of the fair territory, foul territory, every territory network. Thank you so much. Let's talk about Blake Snell, man. Talk about some Blake Snell territory because he looked amazing. I mean, it seems like we have been waiting for his return forever. I feel like, I mean, I know it was like, what, May 9th, the last time that Blake Snell pitched in a game for the Dodgers, six innings, three hits, one earned run, 10Ks. He looked, but not 10Ks.
Starting point is 00:21:36 I don't know that I would have expected the swing and miss to be that crisp Clint in his return from the aisle. You're never quite sure what you're going to get from guys off the IL. I don't care how many rehab assignments they go out on. You cannot simulate a real-life game at the big league level. So he looked phenomenal. I will take 10Ks from Blake Snell, obviously on the four-team fastball, the majority of what he threw in terms of his pitch mix. I will take that any day of the week.
Starting point is 00:22:04 He looked great. Yeah, and he was great from the jump, too. He strikes out the side in the first inning, opens the game. You already seeing him hit 96 on the fastball. It actually ticked up along the way across the game in his final inning, or I think of the fifth inning, he threw his fastest fastball of the night, 97.6.
Starting point is 00:22:24 But yeah, he had absolute command of that baseball. And just, you know, he followed through on what he had been saying, that he hadn't felt better. Dave was even saying before the game, I don't think the Dodgers have seen this version of Blake Snell. Those bone chips, those shark teeth, as they mentioned or they called him in his elbow, getting those removed, just probably pinching on something there, a nerve or whatever it was. He had said in the past
Starting point is 00:22:54 He has feeling back in all of his fingers Which feels like it's pretty important When you're trying to throw a baseball And manipulate a baseball, change your grips And do all of the things you need to do with that Just an unmitigated success To welcome him back Wilde, one of the things
Starting point is 00:23:12 A friend of the show, Stephen Nelson said during the broadcast This was only his 13th regular season start In a Dodger uniform since signing that five-year deal. That's insane. crazy. What other team? What other team could sign a dude to all that money, whatever it was, like $170, $180 million, and just like, yeah, you know, just show up in October. Yeah, just give us 20 regular season starts total over the course of the first two years of your contract or whatever it is, and it's going to be fine. Yeah, I mean, that's the luxury of having
Starting point is 00:23:46 this team. It's like this is a team that can go without Tyler Glass now. Same thing with him. I mean, I don't know how many star T's had in a Dodger uniform. I mean, it's not 13. You know, it's obviously more than that. But still, we have a, we have an embarrassment of riches, if you will. Another super chat. We appreciate you. Scoob will have an okay outing.
Starting point is 00:24:06 Let's go with our other two, Sy Young Lefty. I mean, this team is just disgustingly loaded. Yeah. But it's going to take everybody. I mean, you have to earn these wins. This is, again, this has been a situation where we've seen like, oh, okay. We're not going to be 162 and O. We're not going to just roll through the postseason.
Starting point is 00:24:24 Gabriel, what is that? Cousnaut. I don't know how to say that. And it's all she wrote, Game Over, Dodgers, Walk it Off, Baby, Go, Do, we are lucky to have Max Muncie in our world. So, yeah. But, yeah, Blake Snow looks great. Happy.
Starting point is 00:24:38 And he was obviously in a good mood, happy to be back. He was messing with Dave Vessay today during Dave Vesay's Instagram live. Blake Snell was coming. I know they're besties, but coming up behind him and act in a fool. What did he say? all three of your viewers or something right now, all three of the watchers, it's pretty good.
Starting point is 00:24:56 That's pretty good. Funny, funny, funny, man. Funny guy. Funny, and there's Snellzilla. Love me, Snell Zilla. That's my Dave Vasay impression. Another Raul in the chat, leaving Blue Heaven so clearly at Dodger Stadium today.
Starting point is 00:25:09 Or the Neek, if you want to never call it that singing, Snell Zilla, priceless, and Halverson was awesome. Going to be great. It's going to be great. Listen, it's going to be great. We'll disregard the excellent. extra L and the lack of a second end. There was excitement in the typing.
Starting point is 00:25:26 So we appreciate that. Fast typing. Fast typing. Fast fingers. Nancy in the chat as well, $10 in the super chat is after meeting with the IRS to no avail earlier today. I needed this win. That's right.
Starting point is 00:25:38 F the IRS. That's a bad day, Nancy. I'm glad they could get the win for you. Appreciate that. Hopefully you're okay when it comes to the revenue service. And a couple more super. chats to get us out of here. Court for Medical $1.99.
Starting point is 00:25:54 It says, time for a blowout win tomorrow. Why not? You got the third Dodgers ace on the mound tomorrow. Eric Lauer coming off of a stinker. Need to get him going again. Need some innings. They need this bullpen, you know, is a little, yeah, it's a little, it needs a blow. It needs a blow. And 1999, before I hand back to you here, 1999.
Starting point is 00:26:15 Also from Court for Medical. Thank you, Royals, for your poor decisions of two intentional walks. wanting to face Max, the Dodger walkoff king. Yeah, if you play like this against the Brewers over the weekend, you're going to have a lot of fun. Good question to end there. That's the thing, too, that I was saying, no, not at all. That's the thing you were saying about Eric Lauer needs to go,
Starting point is 00:26:37 not necessarily a distance. Would I love a complete game? Shut out from Eric Lauer? Sure. Would I love a complete game? Would I love six, seven, eight innings? That would be amazing. But you need a healthy and effective bullpen against the brewers.
Starting point is 00:26:48 I mean, this is a circle me type of series because the brewers are very much a possibility to face, to be, you know, to face these guys in the postseason at some point. And they're playing well and they don't care, you know, they don't, they're not a team that's going to be afraid of anybody. I mean, I know they have the stigma that they can't get deep into the postseason and that's fine. But they can still get, you know, the number one seed. And that's what the Dodgers are still hoping to get in just kind of slipping. away from them over the course of the last, you know, eight to 10 days. Yeah. The other part from court for medical.
Starting point is 00:27:26 Who's your player of the game? You're going with Max? Are you going with Snell? What do you got? Oh, it's tough. I mean, can I have one and can I have both? I mean, you have a position player and a pitcher? Well, I'm going to go with Max.
Starting point is 00:27:38 I'm going to go with Max because he just, I mean, who else would you want to have up in that situation? I mean, it used to be JT for me. And now it's, now it's MM. Now it's Max Muncie. So he's my player of the game because he just knows how to give you a quality professional at bat. He's not going to chase. He's not going to get out of his own game.
Starting point is 00:27:58 He knows how to read the situation. And I just, I love the, I love the dude. Love him. Max is, Max is him. Max is him. We love Max. We love Mark Betts. We love Mark Betts here.
Starting point is 00:28:13 Oh, man. If you guys are watching this, I'm going to continue the conversation over on my All Dodgers. YouTube channel with my buddy Kevin Skinner.
