All right, Clint, let's get to it, the big ticket. Let's do it.
Position players have officially reported, although many of them have already reported when
pitchers and catchers had to report. Many were already there because that's just how it goes now.
There's no such thing as showing up to spring training to get in shape. You better be in the best
shape of your life and most position players, if they're serious, take it seriously. And they show up
when the pitchers and catchers report. So let's talk about that. Mookie Betts, Max Muncie, Kike is back.
Appreciate SportsNet, L.A. for all the coverage. It's awesome to see these guys back together.
And there's only one goal in mind. And that's, that's to repeat. What makes you the most excited
about seeing that crew at the cage? I mean, this is a team that is hungry. This is a team that really wants
to be together and you love to see that.
You love to see a group of guys.
And I know you were on foul earlier.
Great spot on foul territory.
If you guys missed it, go check it out.
One of the things you had mentioned was how many players, how many, just, yeah, players want
to be Dodgers.
And we know a lot of these Dodgers really wanted to either come back or stay Dodgers,
whether that's Kike Hernandez waiting for the entirety of the offseason.
Max Muncie telling us in the offseason that, you know, when the Nolan Aaronado rumors were
swirling around. He's like, I don't care. I just want to be here as long as I'm a part of it,
if it's not a full-time role, whatever it is. When you get a group of dudes that are this bought
in and hungry and ready to go, and I mean, usually you win one and you're just kind of like
the hangover, the World Series hangover, we kind of saw that in 2021. This feels like a team
that just wants to put any potential detractors, any of the haters to bed, shut them the F up.
And that's what this team's goal is.
They're going to go out there.
They're going to shut them the F up.
And as it says they're on the screen,
this is a team, in my opinion,
that is ready to repeat,
not just talent-wise, but up here.
Yeah, no question about it.
And this is a team, obviously,
that Andrew Friedman,
when he was on the show last week,
said that despite the fact
that their World Series championships,
there's still a humility about them,
knowing how difficult it is to achieve
what they just achieved,
but they're buying into everything
that is going on,
and I love to see it.
One of the biggest storylines,
Clint, I think so far coming out of camp, obviously, is let's everybody take a look at Roki Sasaki,
but not for nothing. Let's take a look at what Dustin May is doing. And just after a couple of times that he has thrown,
he looks really good. Bill Plunkett with the Orange County Register sending us this video today.
All eyes on Dustin May coming off of, you know, an injury prone off season, obviously, by the way,
we found out it was, didn't you tell me it was salad that was the culprit of his esophagus issue?
I mean, you never hear a donut causing an esophagus issue.
So let's lay off the greens, Dustin.
No more salads for you.
But the point is he looks good.
The movement on his stuff looks good.
Nasty.
Stuff is coming out of his hand, really good.
So that's a good problem to have, right?
Where do you fill him in?
You know, it says there on the screen.
It's an embarrassment of pitches for this Dodger season to steal a line for my friend
D. Mack underscore L.A.
but my God, is it a good problem to have?
When we were talking about somebody a couple years ago,
Dustin May was this team's fourth, fifth starter.
The injury bug has absolutely derailed, destroyed his career,
along with the salad where, again, Alana fully agree with you.
You don't injure yourself with a donut.
You can injure yourself apparently with the salad.
A horrible thing that happened to Dustin May, by the way,
and he showed Bill Plunkett and other guys.
I think it might have been Jack Harris.
the scar, the way they had to repair that.
They'd go in from the stomach and go up.
Nasty stuff, nasty stuff.
But he's back, he's healthy.
And he is pitching for a spot in the starting rotation
that we've talked a whole bunch about in recent weeks.
Shohei Otani, Roki Sasaki, Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
By the way, they also add Blake Snell to the mix.
They still have Tyler Glasnow in there.
Clayton Kershaw back.
I don't really know how you fit this puzzle together.
And I don't know where Dustin May slots in when there's also
Tony Gonsland, 2022 All-Star, that is, in my opinion, the frontrunner to get that fifth starter
spot coming out of spring training, presuming everybody's healthy, difficult conversations
and just the way this puzzle pieces together, it's tough.
It's tough.
They don't have the box to kind of cheat and look at how the puzzle pieces fit together.
I think that's okay, though, because for whatever reason, it always works itself out, right?
You go into the season.
That's a very funny tagline there, embarrassment of pitches.
of that a lot. But you go into the season having seemingly so many arms, too many arms,
if you will, but it always works out that you end up needing more because of injury or because
of schedule or for whatever reason, lack of production or whatever the reason may be, all of the
arms and then some that are not even going to make the opening day roster will be used in order
to get back to where they want to be in another chance to go to the World Series, of course,
which is a disappointment if they don't with this roster and the offseason that they've had,
not only to go to the World Series, though, to repeat, which we know is unbelievably difficult.
It hasn't been done in quite some time. So let's talk about this for a second. Bobby Miller,
and I was reading an article that Sonia Chen, who does a great job covering the Dodgers newly MLB.com
reporter to the Dodgers beat was talking about how Blake Snell and Bobby Miller have had quite the
friendship. And it's almost as if Bobby Miller is being mentored by Blake Snell, even though Blake Snell is like,
listen, I'm not a mentor. We're just friends. Like, we're friends, but their lockers are
next to each other. Do you see Bobby Miller having a relatively large impact on forcing the issue
for this team this year? It's funny. I just said all that stuff about Tony Gonsolin, Dustin May,
but when you do look at Bobby Miller, sort of another one of the forgotten men. And you can,
it's really easy to forget about Dustin May. He's been gone for the better part of the last four
seasons. So it's, it's hard to see this team relying on him. However, Bobby Miller, this was somebody
who was very much in the pitching picture for this team a season ago had a god awful
24 you can kind of attribute it to a shoulder issue that led to poor mechanics but he says
now he's back in spring training took the off season to kind of get that shoulder to stop barking
and from every report we're seeing he looks good the velocity is back on the fastball the command is back
on his pitches and he is feeling good and he is another one of those guys that is pitching for a role
pitching for an opportunity in that starting rotation. However, I see, I should say I don't see a path
for Bobby Miller outside of, you know, like you said, these things sort themselves out. There's going
to be injuries. There is going to be, there are going to be opportunities for Bobby Miller to pick up
some innings, but for it to potentially be somebody who is, you know, taking the ball every fifth
or six day. I can't see that for Bobby Miller.
Like, again, when you have all of those huge names, I mean, you have five aces when
Shohayotani is healthy, hell, you can mix in Clayton Kersh. I'll still call him an ace even,
you know, in his age 37 season or age 38 season. My God, I'm old.
It's so much talent and good for us.
It's awesome. You know, Clayton Kershah turns 38, I believe, on March 19th.
So his birthday is coming up in about a month and change,
and he looks like he's going to be ahead of schedule.
Looks like he might be pitching at the big league level, of course, in June.
That's after the 60 days are up and he'll be eligible to do so.
You know what's going to be also insane in terms of the amount of starting arms,
the media frenzy that is the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Now, I remember when Kenta Maeda became a Los Angeles Dodger,
it was already insane in terms of the attention that was there for Kenta with the Japanese Mia.
They take this very seriously.
when there's a Japan-born player in the big leagues or in any professional sport,
the Japanese media is all over.
But how about this, Clint, again, from Bill Plunkett, we appreciate the coverage.
Media for Roki Sasaki and Yamamoto, the bullpen was insane.
And I've been there when it was just Kenta.
I was not there with the Dodgers on a daily basis when Shohei became a Los Angeles
Dodger.
And I certainly haven't been there for Yamamoto and now Roki Sasaki.
But now, Clint, we have three Japanese-born pitchers, not even just.
just Japanese-born pitchers.
Unbelievably talented.
No disrespect to Kenta,
but this is a whole other level of talent
and expected production from Yamamoto,
Shohei Otani, and obviously, Roki Sasaki.
And imagine just navigating that media frenzy
if you are the American media
or the Dodgers PR staff.
Yeah, that, that, again,
I'll throw to this screen again.
I mean, it was pretty nutty
just being out in spring training,
as you know beforehand.
I haven't been there since they added Shohei Otani
and then Yamamoto.
I've heard, you've seen images like this.
It has to be uncomfortable to try to get to the front of the line
and try to get your questions in and all that.
Thankfully, I got a pro.
You get to shove your way in and not have any issues
getting a word in edgewise with these people.
But that's just the Dodgers now.
Dave Roberts said over the weekend,
you know, this is the epicenter of baseball.
And, you know, it's a bit much to say it.
But where's the lie?
The baseball world, if you watch baseball, if you have just a fringe interest in baseball,
you are watching the Los Angeles Dodgers, whether you hate the Los Angeles Dodgers and what we're doing,
what we're doing.
Come on.
I don't get a ring out of this.
But I saw the chat, by the way, on foul territory.
When you join them, I said, hi, everybody.
How are you doing in there?
And somebody said in the chat, you know, people like you aren't welcome in here because
there are fans of 29.
other teams that are ready to hate the Dodgers. But I love what you said too. And you've said it a few
times here on this show. Every single team can spend money to acquire talent. If you're the Rockies,
you might have to spend more to go out and convince Roki Sasaki to join your team or Juan Soda or
whatever. Get better. Be better. The Dodgers said, we want to run it back. We're going to give
ourselves the best opportunity by adding Rokie Sysaki to that mix. By bringing in Blake Snell,
Like I don't think we talk enough about, again, embarrassment of pitches.
It's a great spot.
And I'm going to throw this out there right now.
We've said it last week.
I'm very, very high in Yoshinobu Yamamoto in year two.
Sy Young Award in 2025.
I'm calling it right now.
There's your bold prediction of the show, guys.
Nobody clip this.
Nobody clipped this.
Yoshinovo Yamamoto is the 2025 National League Cy Young Award winner, according to Clint Paseas.
You know what's going to be incredible and it has been so far in the one bullpen session that he has thrown
actually seeing Shohei Otani Clint in a Dodgers uniform on the mount.
And, you know, he threw one bullpen session so far, just two seamers, four seamers, about 14 pitches.
It wasn't crazy.
A lot of conversation, a lot of eyeballs on it.
But man, it's actually happening.
We were wondering if we were ever going to see because of COVID, if we were ever going to see Mookie Betts in a Dodgers uniform.
And then we were wondering, okay, are we going to get Shohei?
And now we had him last year and he was the, you know, MVP again, 50-50 and beyond.
And now we get to see him pitch.
Pretty freaking cool.
I'll throw this one out there.
There's another bold prediction for you before we hear from our buddies about Oregon.
How about back-to-back MVPs to go with back-to-back World Series championships?
I feel like Sho-Hae, I feel like you might as well just write him in every year.
Like, I think it's almost unfair.
It's kind of cheater, you know.
They need to make like a Show-Hae award.
something like that. But I got Shohei finishing first and right behind him, this guy,
Marcus Lynn Betts, that's the shortstop. We'll talk more about that in a minute as we get
behind the seams. But I'm all of a sudden, I've, a lot of us have been worried about the whole
Mookie shortstop thing here in Dave. Of course, some of the guys we talked to this offseason,
like you were mentioning Chris Woodward, Dino Ebel, just hearing Moogie talk about it as well.
I'm suddenly hyped about the Mookie Betts shortstop experiment.
I'm going to call it an experience.
But before we dive into that, you want to get to Orgaine?
Yeah, I love it.
Let's hear for our friends over at Orgain.
Of course, AJ Prisinski and Scott Braun.
Hey, this episode is sponsored by Orgene.
And, AJ, I know as a former big leaguer, you care about what you put in your body.
But don't you also care about what tastes good?
Don't you want to get a little protein action that actually tastes good if you're going to have it every day?
Absolutely. I had it today after my workout, Scott. It was great. I had chocolate and vanilla and chocolate are my two favorites.
I can't decide which one I like more, but I drink them after I workout. I worked out this morning, came right home.

time now for behind the seams before we get into perhaps the latest dodger clint another you know kind of
off the beaten path signing for the los angeles dodgers can you pull up what you were showing earlier with mookie
bets and chris woodward really quick as far as the uh the footwork now again in case you missed it
chris woodward guys is back in the dodgers fold he is the first base coach for the los angeles
dodgers because of course dina webel is the third base coach where chris used to be but you can see
Woody is working with Moogie because Chris Woodward is so unbelievably good at working on the
infielder's footwork. I mean, it has been raved about by Corey Seeger, by a lot of other guys that
used to be in the Dodgers infielder. Justin Turner. Infield rather, Justin Turner, yep, that
Woody's just phenomenal at it. And then Dino, of course, who was working with the infielders in the
past, will be handling all of the outfield defensive shifts and those types of things, too. So there
you can see. And the reason I bring this up is because both Andrew Friedman, Clint, and
Dave Roberts and Chris Woodward when we had Woody on the show, who was on vacation in Maui or in
Hawaii and still took the time to be with us, talked about how much Mookie is taking this very seriously.
And we're not surprised, right? Like, Mookie's the best athlete on the planet, not just on the Dodgers,
on the planet in terms of, you know, baseball players. So you look at it and you know that it's important
to him. You know that he did not like the defensive lapses, if you will, and not mental
defensive lapses because you can't deal with that as a manager, but just physical things.
you have happened to you when you're not used to being in that position i like mookie bets in
right field the roster construction does not allow for mookie to be in right so he's going to be the
best shortstop that he can be and he's already putting in the work i just wanted to kind of discuss
that too because he for a guy that has two world series championships and multiple awards he could be
a jerk he could be raphael devers and say hey i'm a third baseman i'm not moving which happened
by the way but mokey's like i will go wherever you
You want me to go.
And I love that about him.
Yeah.
One of the things Mookie had said, you know, amongst the many things he had his kind of reluctant
scrum with media earlier at Camelback Ranch.
And, you know, he doesn't want any of that.
He doesn't want to talk to people right now.
He just wants to focus.
And I love that.
I love the, I'm calling it the Mookie Mamba mentality we're seeing.
He doesn't care.
2024 is dead and gone.
It doesn't matter what you did yesterday.
It matters what you do today.
And he understands how important it would be for this team.
he can be at least a serviceable average, find a way to be an above average shortstop,
how good of a win would that be for this front office if five years ago they traded for
their star shortstop? And again, somebody who's going to finish second and MVP voting
behind Shohay Otani this year. But what an addition that would be if he could be good.
He would be arguably the best shortstop in baseball. And all he needs to do is be at least average
at the position.
And Dave told us, we heard it from everybody.
It's not the glove.
It's not getting to balls.
It's the throws.
And last offseason, entering spring training, 2024,
he spent that offseason getting good, learning second base.
That was always the plan.
And that is a very different throw.
As you know, former Major League shortstop,
Alonar Rizzo.
As you know, that throw at shortstop is a lot different.
Those angles, everything you need to do to kind of get lower.
Ask Gavin Lux, right?
Ask Gavin Lux.
Ask anybody that's had to play multiple infield positions,
how different the throws are from second to short.
So give Mookie that offseason.
Like we just gave him, give him that full offseason to focus on that position
and good things are going to happen for the Dodgers in 2025.
Yeah.
By the way, there's a Eddie Rosario signing.
Outfielder Eddie Rosario has just been inked apparently to a minor league deal.
He's been spotted at camp.
He's at Campbellback.
So what does this do for you?
I mean, you know, this is a guy who's had a decent big league career.
He's won some awards.
He's a World Series champion.
We don't need another outfielder.
Or do we, Clint to see us?
What does he bring to the table?
Yeah, he brings a veteran.
He brings somebody who has, who's had some very good seasons as a major leaguer.
He brings a World Series championship.
pedigree. Of course, he was one of those guys that beat down on the Dodgers in 2021 when they were
running on fumes and he, along with Jock and his pearls and Freddie Freeman, went on and won that
World Series with the Atlanta Braves. It's just another option. What he brings to me, though,
is it shows that this front office will never be done tinkering and tweaking, tinkering with
and tweaking this roster because, let's say some sort of injury happens with Conforto or
the second base thing doesn't work out so you have to move Tommy Edmund in or whatever.
It just, as I said earlier with the whole pitching puzzle, there's also the position player
side of the puzzle.
And if he is somebody, if Eddie Rosario is somebody who could give the Dodgers what he gave
Atlanta or what he did early in his career with Minnesota, the chances of him impacting the
roster are super slim, but if there is like a point, you know, a 0.1% chance of him helping,
which would be a 10% chance.
of him helping the team and it and it's a minor league deal.
Fuck yeah.
Add the dude.
Why not?
Well, here, uh,
2000,
uh,
two thousand,
twenty four,
for Atlanta,
255 average,
I'll take 21 bombs.
I mean,
the guy's not going to play every day.
So he's not going to hit 20 home runs,
but 74 ribbyes and a 755 OPS.
So I don't know.
What do you think?
Him or David Bodie,
who has a better shot?
Uh,
maybe Bote,
just because he can play the infield, he could play third base. And I think that means a little bit more to this club where, you know, beyond, beyond Max Muncie, it's kind of, you know, going to be Miguel Rojas, who should be backing up at shortstop and second base and all of that. So having a little bit more infield depth, I think, goes further, at least right side infield depth, or left side infield depth goes a little bit further than another outfielder.
Yeah, I agree with you. Again, there's not, there's never enough.
We need a 48-man, like, regular roster, like, just to start the season.
We have so many players.
All right, let's talk about a couple of other perhaps dark horse roster candidates.
I don't see this happening.
I think you and I could probably put the roster together right now, honestly, opening day roster of the opening 26.
But where are we at in your mind with Dalton rushing?
This is a guy that you've brought up a lot in terms of the development at the plate,
wants to focus on that.
He's been taking ground balls at first base.
Are we talking to position change here?
Where are you at with him?
So Dalton rushing, and I had a screen.
I was going to put it up,
but I didn't load it up.
So we'll just talk about it instead.
But Dalton rushing is one of those guys
where he is arguably the catcher of the future.
The problem is they locked up Will Smith to a 10-year deal.
I don't know if it's a problem.
But they moved Dalton rushing to the outfield last year
to kind of add some positional versatility.
and a path to him getting playing time at the big league level.
Dave Roberts said that he's going to be working on his,
or at least the front office said, Dodgers say there.
He's going to be working on his development behind the plate this spring.
So you'll probably see him catching a good amount of games here during the spring
because Will Smith is a little behind schedule with an ankle issue.
We're hoping he's ready for opening day.
But to get Dalton rushing kind of in the mix,
maybe an heir apparent to Austin Barnes as a catcher 1A, 1B,
instead of more of a traditional catcher.
But if you're able to get Dalton rushing as somebody who can play some first,
play some left field, kind of move around the diamond that just helps the Dodgers.
As you know, as we all know, I mean, to have a Kiki that you can let catch,
you know, somebody like that with Dalton rushing, that's going to go a long way because they say,
they say the bat will play, the discipline is there.
they might just have him focusing a lot on the infield rather than the outfield,
which is fine.
You know, you got to develop him as a catcher to really maintain that value.
But, you know, man, are these just like, these are such first world problems for the Dodgers?
I mean, this is what we're talking about on February 17th because, like, we don't have problems.
You know what I mean?
Like right now, this team does not have problems, but just to make sure everyone understands what we're talking about,
Fabi and our Daya does a great job with the athletic covering the team.
The Dodgers want Dalton rushing to focus on his development.
behind the plate. That's exactly what Clint just said. He's also taking ground balls at first base
with the day's workout complete. Dave Robert said this week it's TBD, how much outfield work
he'll get after playing some left field last year. So that's kind of where they are at as of yesterday
with the whole Dalton rushing experience. So we'll see. Again, good problem to have. We are
very fortunate to be fans of the team that we are fans of. Let's talk about some pups. Let's go to
Leslicks. Let's do it. All right. I know you've seen this pup before, but she hasn't had a lot of
interest, and I don't understand why, because she's amazing. This is Paisley. She's about a one and a half
year old Australian Shepherd mix. She's a lovely, I mean, she's a beautiful dog. She is getting
spayed on Monday, so we're taking care of that through Guidry's Guardian and all of our wonderful
donors. We appreciate you guys very much. She is great with kids. She's great with all people.
she's a puppy. So she has puppy energy, right? So we're working on making sure she doesn't jump or get too active. She's not aggressive. She's just a puppy. She loves everybody. She loves toys. She's just a good girl. She's good on the leash. She's potty trained. She's fully vaccinated. And as I mentioned, she's getting spayed. So if you were interested in learning more about Paisley, we saved her literally moments from being euthanized for no reason at the divorce shelter just because she had a little bit of an
upper respiratory cold and she's super healthy and a perfectly wonderful dog that was going to get killed for no reason so
reach out about paisley um this is funny clint before we let you go and and talk about what's coming up on
your show how about this little prankster of show hey otani i mean this is a guy obviously that does
everything perfectly but he is a little bit of funny funny in him um it's funny because he doc went out to get
his car the other day at camelback uh in the manager's spot and there's a fake porch there that apparently
was given to Doc by Shohei Otani.
Again, they have this like running joke, of course, you know, about
Shohei wants, you know, Doc wants
show hey to give him a Porsche like he gave Ashley Kelly
when Joe Kelly gave Shohei his number.
You got to love this from a franchise player, right?
You got to love this from a guy that is the face of baseball
that's an MVP that's otherworldly and still knows how to have a good time.
I love this.
Listen, there's an absolute great pathway.
here for me to trash the angels as I love to do. But instead, I'm going to focus on, I love that we're
seeing this kind of fun early in spring training because Alana, you know, spring training, it's a
grind. It can drag, especially when you're out there for 30 plus days like these guys usually
are, of course, shortened spring training this year with the trip to Tokyo where Alana's
trying to work to get us out there, wink, wink. Yeah, again, this is just, this is fun. You're seeing good
vibes at at dodgers camp you're seeing mooky bets i'm sure you saw the video trying to get fans
and people doing the let's go dodgers as as uh hason kim is is doing his reps at second base it's just
it's good vibes good clean energy uh you know all of that that stress just off their back of the
previous you know the 22 23 uh early exits in the post season that's gone that's dead that's
buried now it's like hey let's have fun we know we got the team we know we got the talent let's go out
and win it and have some fun doing it.
I love it. I just, I think it's so much fun.
Dave's like, where the hell's my car? Then he goes over to a BMW that he thought was his car.
Couldn't get it open. I mean, there's just all the shenanigans. That's just good, clean,
fun kids. I don't care what you say. All right, Clint, 10,000 subscribers.
They should have made him drive that little car home, by the way.
Sure, sure. I don't know. I don't. I mean, you pretty much, there's lawlessness in Arizona,
so that's fine. I don't think they would have cared. All right. So congratulations again,
my friend, well earned. All Dodgers with Clint Paseas has hit 10.
thousand subscribers. Good for you. What's coming up on your show? We got more Dodgers talk tonight.
Myself, producer Kevin, I assume we'll be joining me. We'll be talking about all the latest out
of Camelback Ranch. We should have some updates from Dave Roberts and a whole lot more. We'll dive more
into some of those non-raster invitees that are around camp, including Dalton rushing. And
look at more of the pitching puzzle for the Dodgers. So either way, Tube in 6 p.m. Pacific time is usually when
we go live. We take a bunch of comments there and just kind of hang out and have a good time.
It's like hanging in with friends at the bar. That's what we like to do on the show. So check that out.
Do subscribe. And while you're on the internet, subscribe here. Yeah, no doubt. We appreciate you guys
being here, listening, watching all of the things. Don't forget, Clint and I are actually going
to be at Campbellback Ranch. We're going to do our show with AJ Piersinski is going to be at Camelback
on the 10th. And then Clint and I have a sit down with Dave Roberts on the 10th to be aired at a later date.
He's going to walk us through some of his decisions and his mindset going through the postseason.
So we're very lucky that we get that exclusive with him.
All right, guys.
Appreciate you very much.
We will see you on Thursday.
