This was a good game, Clint.
Obviously, the first two games, whatever.
But this was a really, really, really good game.
Blake Snell shoved.
Let us talk about Snellzilla.
Yeah, you needed to have this win, Riz.
Shut out the Phillies.
You feel good about that.
You salvage the series by winning.
At least you don't get swept.
You needed that.
and you salvage a little bit of dignity with a massive outing from Blake Snell.
Absolutely the story of the game.
Obviously, we usually open these shows, these post games with the bats, whatever the lineup did.
Chicks dig the long ball.
But Blake Snell, he told Doc, sit the F down.
I've got this, bro.
Seven innings, two hits, 12 punchies, of course, walks two in that seventh inning.
But eventually tells Dave, no, this is my spot.
And I don't know about you,
but I got the chills.
I got the goosebumps when that happened
because I love those big dogs.
I tweeted, that's some man shit right there.
It really is.
And you saw it in his eyes, Clint.
You saw like the passion.
Like an Alex Vessia is like halfway to the mound.
And Blake Snell's like, no, no, no, no, no.
Not to take anything away, obviously, from his teammate, Alex Vescia,
but he's like, listen, I want to say, give me this batter.
Let me finish this off.
And Blake Snell, I had this conversation today.
on foul territory with Eric Crats and AJ Prusinski that Blake Snell is one of those guys,
and you know this better than anybody, that he is okay facing the guys the third time through
the order. It is fine to leave Blake Snell out there. He can handle it. The more he sees guys,
he's still dominant and he did it again tonight. And that is exactly my God. That's exactly
what you want specifically at this time of year. But moreover, going into the postseason, I would
love it if they let like Snell stay out there. I know he had you know over a hundred
pitches and stuff. It wasn't the most efficient outing, but I don't care. Seven innings.
My God, he looked great and he said, you know what? Let me stay out here. Let me get this dude.
Dave Roberts said, okay, but you better get him. And he did. That was awesome. And you saw,
you saw Snell's reaction. You saw Dave's reaction. You saw the dugouts reaction. The crowd,
obviously, you and I, I mean, the whole thing, it was all good all the way around.
Yeah. And obviously, coming off of, we don't need to talk a lot about the games that have
that happened, but we will a little bit.
But coming off of the day where
Blake, sorry, Shohei Otani, yeah,
in theory could have pitched deeper into that game,
but I still, I respect their decision to not have him
go deeper into that game.
They said five, they set, you know,
they're sticking to the script.
They're sticking to the script with that situation.
You know, it's not Dave's fault that the bullpen
just straight up sucked ass behind show Hey Otani yesterday.
but to come off of that that outing for Dave to be like, you know what, I'm going to listen to my dude right here.
It was cool.
And this kind of stuff, we need to see this team start getting a little bit of that spark.
Starting pitching has been phenomenal, but to do something, well, maybe that's hopefully a little bit of a slap in the face of the bullpen as well to, hey, go out there, start doing your damn job already.
Yeah, I was nervous with Tanner Scott.
I hate to say that.
I'm so sorry, Tanner.
I don't want to be nervous when he comes on the hill.
But he had a five-run lead, and I was still like, me.
Like, it was just a little, it's still a little bit, you know, a little bit nerve-wracking for me.
But again, he needs to throw pitches, right?
He's got to get this out of his system, whatever this is.
He's got to figure it out two weeks left, not even two weeks, not even a full two weeks left.
I think the wild part around starts on the 30th.
That's 12 days from now.
So that's insane.
I tell you what, though, I'll take Tyler Glass now, Blake's,
Yoshinobu Yamamoto in those first three games.
I'll take in a five-game series.
I'll take a Shohei Otani going five, six innings in the game,
and then a Clayton Kershaw in a game five, if necessary,
or you bring back Blake Snell on short rest or Tyler Glasnell on short rest
or even regular rest.
I don't hate the Dodgers.
Why I be stroking?
Why do I hate the daughters?
Ask why?
Somebody.
Somebody explain that.
Oh, that was a joke.
They're laughing emojis at the end.
Oh, Alana hates the Dodgers confirmed.
That's a call in Jess.
We did get a 499 super chat from Fresh Crips, by the way.
Said Snell, telling Roberts, I'm staying in this game,
will be the turning point for this team.
Repeat incoming.
Hey, if that's what it takes, I am in.
I am all the way in on that.
Some sort of spark, some sort of thing,
whatever it takes to get the dogs going,
even though it's not necessarily of the bullpen there.
but yeah not the bullpen dogs but that's okay with with Tanner Scott though like he listen at the end of the day
he rattled off a solid appearance there yeah there are ducks on the pond uh that's just going to happen
i think we need to accept that but Dave robert said yesterday you know or maybe it was today he's one of
those guys that we need to run out there he's he's going to be a part of this team uh you got to get
behind behind Tanner Scott as much as we we might not love that uh he is somebody that the team is going to
rely on to get big outs for them in October if they're going anywhere in October.
If they are going somewhere, though, it is going to be on the back of that starting
pitching like you were talking about a lot.
I have some numbers.
They were mentioned in the broadcast as well.
Technically starting pitchers, even though Anthony Bonda opened that game on Monday,
but the Phillies hitters against Dodgers starting pitchers, three hits in 56 at bats.
I mean, the Dodgers did a really good job.
This is against the Phillies.
Dodgers pitchers, I guess, starting pitchers,
pitchers, however you want to categorize it because Bonda was an opener, whatever.
They did really well against the Phillies hitters.
So that's a very positive sign.
But both the Dodgers and the Phillies don't have the greatest bullpen in the world.
And I think it could come down to that.
You know what I mean?
The Phillies don't have a great bullpen either.
You know what I mean?
And the Dodgers certainly, that is the weakness of this Dodgers team right now is the bullpen.
However, I say that to say this.
The Dodgers starters are healthy.
They're pitching very, very well.
They're all together again.
And if we can start letting them go deep into the ballgame,
that will take the pressure off of the bullpen
and perhaps you can slot guys back where they're supposed to be.
So that, my friend, is a good thing.
Yeah, that's a good thing.
There's a lot of good things.
Even with, you know, you lose this series,
there are a lot of things.
There are a lot of positives take away.
the offense continued to battle against this this Phillies team.
They just kept putting points on the board and it wasn't all from the long ball and all that kind of stuff.
Why don't we take a quick break and hear from us.
And then let's come back and talk about the Dodgers offense and we'll hang out more with the chat.

Hello, hello. I'm Malcolm Gladwell, host of Smart Talks with IBM.
I recently spoke with IBM's new director of research, Jake Embatta.
We discussed his vision for the future of quantum.
computing. At IBM research, what we always do is answer what is the future of computing,
whether it's coming up with new algorithms, coming up with better AI, coming up with quantum,
or coming up with just how do different accelerators go together. It's our DNA to answer the
question of what is the future. Isn't it a perfect problem for IBM because you kind of need to have a
legacy of building stuff? Yes. Building actual physical machines. Yeah, it's why I came to Ivy.
am. I wanted the experience, the culture of building hard things that others have not done before.
Where do you imagine we are in the timeline of this technology? There will come a point when it will
mature, right? My cell phone is a mature technology at this point. How far are we from that
point with Conton? By 2029, we'll build the first fault-tolerant quantum computer. That is one that can run a very, very
large, large problem.

It's funny, as I'm reading the chat here, Clint, thanks to draft kings for that.
But it's C-Bad said, Otani is using baseballs again.
Ouch.
And it's funny, too, because it's like he is.
It just looks so free and easy for him.
Number 51, as far as the long ball is concerned for Johe Otani.
Congratulations to him.
Another unbelievable season.
And finally, this season he gets to pitch, too, as we saw yesterday,
with five no hit innings too.
But Freddie Freeman, getting things going for the Dodgers offense.
Great to see Frederick, another home run to lead off the scoring in the second inning.
But they did some small ball as well, which was good to see too.
Pahas, your boy, Rort Vett, you know, a couple of other folks.
Dodgers legend, Rort Vett, yes.
It was nice.
It was really, really nice to see this kind of game.
You didn't have to hit it over the fence.
You did, which was nice.
but they scored in other ways.
Yeah.
On Benny RortVet here, Dodgers legend, by the way.
This was after that first at bat, I love this, though,
hitting 310 at the Dodger, which is just absurd for this journeyman.
And of course, our friend David Vassay saying the Ben RortVet era continues.
These guys are buying into it.
There's something special going on there.
But beyond, you know, Benny and the vets, you know,
connecting on a two-out RBI.
I really do love the way this team is manufactured.
manufacturing runs. You saw that in the bottom of the eighth inning, but you also saw that in the
second inning. The Paez and Rojas hit and run. Andy Paez has really been executing that
hit and run, getting the ball on the ground to the right side. And it feels like it keeps going
through that four hole. It has been a real treat to watch, you know, the ups and downs and the
mostly, you know, the growth of Andy Paez this season. I've enjoyed the hell out of it. Um,
But that's the type of stuff that wins you ball games in October.
It's manufacturing runs the way they're doing it.
You know, again, eighth inning.
You get the Teo Walk, a Freddie double.
And Tommy Edwin with that sack fly that somehow found the glove of St. Nicholas Castellanos there.
That's St. Nicholas for sure.
I mean, that was insane.
It was like not the greatest route in the world.
Like not the most direct route, a little circuitous, if you will, with a nice extension there too.
But yeah, that was a heck of a catch by Nick Castellano.
But yeah, I think growth is a really great word, Clint, when you used to describe Andy Pahas because it's like I remember thinking, again, I wanted to send them to the moon.
I definitely don't want to send this kid to the moon now.
He is really matured as a defensive center fielder.
He's matured as a baseball player, just all around, you know, in terms of obviously the offense.
But, you know, like you're saying, finding the holes right there and being able to execute the hit and run.
and just kind of his baseball IQ has gone up and we've witnessed it over the course of this season.
Yeah, I mean, there's still obviously parts of his game.
You need to clean up.
You want to see the base running get a little bit cleaner, a little bit more, more better if I'm using poor grammar here.
But still, this is a second year player.
And it's not a sophomore slump.
He's been great.
They talked about on the broadcast as well.
He's picked up how many stolen bases now this year, like 10, 12, something like that.
if I could remember how to find words or whatever.
14 stolen bases now on the year for Andy Paa has to go with 25 homers.
And also got to mix in there.
It's feeling a little bit like October, Alana, because Kike is warming up.
As much as my friend Jeff Snyder is going to hate me talking about the idea of Kiki heating up as the calendar gets a little bit closer to October.
I mean, he's here.
I mean, that's just who.
Kike is. Like it's, it's not making stuff up. I mean, that's fact. As the calendar goes to October,
which is 12 days from now, and definitely, because it's 1243, my time, it's 12 days from now,
Kikee heats up. That's just how it is. And Kektober's coming up, Clint. Yeah, I mean, again,
there's a lot of the things you like in this game in this series for this team. Don't care.
187 had the $2 super chat earlier since starting pitching has been amazing.
loves Snell refusing to leave.
And also our buddy Richie Flores with the 199 Super Chat,
wants to have a party at his divorce man.
He's planted that seed.
Now Richie's not going to shut up about it.
We're trying, man.
We'd love to get there.
Well, eventually figure out something.
Our people will talk to your people and all these sorts of things.
But, yeah, again, despite the series loss,
I don't hate how this series turned out.
Yeah, you know, basically you've sealed your fate
that you're not going to end up with that two seed in the National League,
which, you know, it is what it is at this point.
But knowing that the offense can attack, can beat the Phillies,
can get to their starters and that, you know,
it's a vaunted starting rotation in its own regard.
And they could hold down that Philly offense.
It's just about the bullpen kind of pulling their heads out of their asses
and, you know, finding whatever dog they lost, you know,
it's just been such an up and down.
season. Look at this number, by the way, they had on the broadcast. Insane, if we're looking
at bullpen ERA year over year. Oh, God, I don't like that. Yeah. Of course, last year,
fourth in baseball with a 353 ERA. This year was dogs. Last year was this. I don't like this.
4.3 ERA, 20th in baseball. And Riz, you know this team wins on pitching. They win on on bullpen.
It's a little bit different to have the the sheer amount of.
of starting, you know, firepower that they have these days.
It's going to, you know, be interesting to see how they deploy it.
But I do think that 4-30, I think that's what it was, right?
That four, basically four and a half.
I think that's because they've been leaned upon so heavily, Clint, all season long.
I mean, it was at a necessity.
It was out of necessity.
Some of its lack of production, obviously, but a lot of it was necessity.
And I think you think about the fact that I really feel like this is the best our starting pitching, in my opinion, has looked and has felt.
all season. And now is a great time to have that, right? Now is a wonderful time to have this team
together. You have Tyler Glasnow, you have Blake Snell, you have Yoshinobu Yamamoto, you have
Shohai Otani that I know they're following the script, but I'll take five no hit innings.
Okay. Obviously you have Kirst. You have Emmett Sheehan doing his thing and those types of things,
whether they put him in the bullpen, whether they have him spot start, whether he's an opener,
whatever it is. This is the healthiest and the best our starting rotation has looked all season long.
It took six months, but it's here at the most important time of the year.
Yeah, again, I don't care what you do to get to the dance.
As long as you arrive at the dance and you have a good time.
And the dance is coming up for this team.
I said the number earlier.
It's who you leave with.
And that's a big fat trophy.
Let's go.
That piece of metal.
I love to use that one as often as I can.
But again, starting pitchers, technical starting pitchers, so not Bond on that game one.
Three Phillies hits and 56 at bats.
That's just, I don't know, that's sexy.
As somebody who loves pitching, I love that.
Five and two thirds out of Sheehan shouldn't have given up that run on.
I said we're not going to talk about those old games.
We don't need to talk about that.
What we should do is take another quick break.
And then we need to figure out whether or not Shohei Otani can play some outfield
to help this team in the bullpen.
So we will be right back.
Crats, I'm going to steal a line right from the top here about Miundis.
A cut for every butt.
I took a line that I feel.

Hello, hello. I'm Malcolm Gladwell, host of the podcast Smart Talks with IBM. I recently sat down
with IBM's chairman and CEO, Arvin Krishna.
And I asked him, how can companies use AI to its fullest potential to create smarter business?
My one advice to them, pick areas you can scale.
Don't pick the shiny little toys on the side.
For example.
If anybody has more than 10% of what they had for customer service 10 years ago,
they're already five years behind.
If anybody is not using AI to make their developers who write software 30% more productive today,
with the goal of being 70% more productive.
Yeah.
So we are not asking our clients to be the first experiment on it.
We say, you can leverage what we did.
We're happy to bring out all our learnings, including what needs to change in the process,
because the biggest change is not technology,
is getting people to accept that there's a different way to do things.

Appreciate you guys, supporting the brands that support us here on Dodgers Territory, the Fowel Territory Network, all that kind of stuff.
Hopefully you guys don't skip through those ads. Listen to them. It makes us look better as well.
Alana, the conversation from yesterday into today, show Hey Otani, he's willing to play some outfield, which I love, to ensure the possibility of keeping his
bat in the lineup if he is needed in a relief, I guess, scenario in the postseason.
This is from our friend Alden Gonzalez earlier today.
I love that.
I love how he prefaced it.
Things that are true.
MLB's two-way role will remain as is for the playoffs.
The Dodgers are considering the possibility of Shohei Otani helping as a reliever.
Butani said he'd be willing to play the outfield to stay in the lineup.
Obviously, they're having conversations about this.
Now, this was all through, just for clarification, this was all through.
Shohay and the Japanese media having these conversations is my understanding.
Shohay brought it up with the Japanese media.
So obviously these conversations have been held with Dodgers Brass or else that's
not coming out in the media.
No, of course not.
Whether it's Japanese or English or Peruvian or whatever, it's not coming out.
So I don't want Shohay in the outfield, okay?
Really?
No, no.
Shohie has not also come out of the bullpen either.
WBC, it was a very, very lucky set of circumstances that brought him to that.
It's not, it's a very, that's a very, very different situation, Clint, and you know that.
I'll say this. I think it screams, it reeks of desperation. It also is, it's not the worst option when you see how poorly this bullpen has operated.
And considering there are only, what, like 10 games left, trying to figure out something.
another option, break in case emergency.
I gave you the option.
Starting pitching is good again.
Yay.
Well, yeah, but all of that.
And, you know, it took, you know, Blake's now moving heaven and earth to be able to pitch through seven innings today.
So starting pitching is eventually going to have to give way to the bullpen.
And you don't need five or six starters in October.
I think a lot of things need to go right to make this work in such a short amount of
time. But knowing that that option is on the table where in, you know, deploying Shohei out of the
bullpen in a perfect scenario and not losing him in the lineup, to have that there, that's big.
I would rather flash me back to 2019 or rather Dave Roberts turned to Shohei Otani to face
the Washington Nationals over Clayton Kirshah in that scenario. Why I went there, I don't know.
but I'm just saying to have somebody of that kind of that magnitude that arm that stuff that
filth and if he doesn't have all of his pitches working he doesn't need him he could find the ones
that work and get him through three outs.
Well that's the thing out of the out of the bullpen you don't need 58 pitches.
No.
You need two.
But the fact.
One really good one.
I'll say this.
The fact that this is even a conversation, we don't, the Dodgers won.
We don't need to bring this up.
But I brought it up because I brought it up.
because I put it in the rundown.
Did the front office make a grave mistake
by not landing another lockdown reliever at the deadline?
I think they really hope that Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates were going to be fine.
I mean, I don't think you can fault.
I don't think you can fault Andrew Friedman in the front office at that time
knowing who they went after in the offseason
and thought that those guys were going to be the producers
that they signed them up to be.
You know, I mean, I know should have could have would have.
But I don't, I don't think,
I don't this to me this is not a misstep on the front office by not locking down a like a lockdown
reliever I think if you looked at the roster you you nobody could have anticipated the struggles
and the yips that Tanner Scott has had this season nobody could have anticipated I mean he even said
himself he's like I just I just stink right now it's the worst year he's ever had nobody could
have anticipated that so no I don't I don't fault the the Dodgers front office I mean remember
remember they only, yeah, they only landed Brock Stewart and that lasted about seven minutes.
But you would have hoped that Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates and, you know,
Copec and all the things would have,
would have performed to their capabilities, to the reason that they got signed to begin with.
Yeah, you know, you mentioned Brock Stewart.
He's, he's on the way back.
He threw a rehab appearance.
And Dave said he is going to be, if he's healthy,
he's going to be on this postseason roster.
So you are going to have, you know, a lot of bodies.
Well, they're going to carry 14 pitches, pitchers.
And they can do that because O-Ton.
as a pitcher.
Well, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
So another name mentioned today, Kyle Hurd, who you know is somebody I've been pretty high on.
He says he's in the mix.
He mentioned, Dave mentioned, he likes the playoff caliber stuff in the quote there.
I think that that's another one of those things where if they have to turn to Kyle Hurd,
somebody who has, you know, less than a cup of coffee.
What's the small cup at Starbucks?
Is that like a venty?
Well, that would be a tall, but I'm still thinking like a cafecito, like a cafe cuano, which is like a tiny, tiny, tiny, like little espresso.
Like that's what Kyle heard.
He doesn't even have a cup.
Yeah, he has an espresso.
Like a little thumbnail.
That's what he has.
The times he has appeared at the big league level, he's been good, he's been dominant, he's looked filthy.
He's been pretty decent at AAA so far, 245 ERA.
but walk in a few too many giving up some hits the whip is over too but I think this is another
one of those things where it feels like a bit of a failure on the entirety of the pitching department
if they have to turn to Kyle Hurt and his you know 28 minutes of service time which you
probably add up his appearances he's probably pitched about 28 innings of major league
time but that's a joke for me um you know to have to turn to him at the end of the season it just
feels like it's a bit of a failure.
So it's a bit of a scratch.
Yeah, yeah.
It's, we, we just have to believe that this bullpen is plainly better than what we're seeing right now.
Sadly, it's all we have.
This, these are the arms that are going to, uh, lead this team to a world series title or lead
them to a, another disappointing, uh, first round or second round exit, depending on what you
consider the wild card round and, and, uh,
uncomfortable presser between the media and Andrew Friedman and Brandon Goams answering those
questions, why did you guys not do more at the trade deadline? We have to have blind faith that
it's going to sort itself out. I think it will. I do. Again, I just feel like everyone can just
be slotted to where they're supposed to be because of the starting pitching. Now, if there's a,
if there's a crazy injury or, you know, someone's having a really friggin' bad day, then those
holes will be exposed again. There's not a single team in my opinion this year,
American League or National League. That is a clear cut runaway favorite. This team is so much
better than any other team. Any team, okay, not any team. That's not fair. The Rockies are already
eliminated. They're not winning the World Series. The athletics, the whatever. But my point is,
of the contenders, of the teams that are going to likely, I don't know what the heck is going to
happen in the National League West, or excuse me, in the National League. Are the Mets going to get
the final wildcard spot? Will the Diamondbacks get in? Do the
the do the reds leap frog like what's going to happen yeah the point is whoever gets in the postseason
of the teams there's not one clear cut favorite every single team has holes the daughter's hole
right now is the bullpen yeah and it's about they're not the only ones no it's about getting hot
at the right time and having you know i'm one of those people uh that i i i buy into i subscribe to
the these what we saw out of blake snail tonight and i think there's a lot of people in the chat that
that have that kind of same faith as well
that this was another one,
yet another turning point for this team this year,
of which there have been 475 turning points
for this team this year.
It feels like when we're talking about them
as often as we do here on the internet.
Thanks for guys for watching, by the way.
But that having, like, your ace,
this dude, you gave a shit ton of money to in the offseason,
be like, nah, I want this.
Let's all go.
Let's hop on.
And let's ride this to,
you know world series title back to back and you know what else is great about this too and i know
that it hurt us at the time although we're still in first place right so all you got to do is
win the division by one game that's it i mean i know seating and all of those different things but
blake snell his arm is fresh and that's a beautiful thing going into the postseason because he
he was on the shelf for so long this season that coming into the postseason he's not fatiged
i better not hear about any arm fatigue max scherzer i better not hear about any end
knee of that shit. Listen, old man
sure's couldn't hang. He
saved that game where he probably
didn't need to be in that game closing it.
And then he partied too hard
as a 36 year old and didn't do
his arm treatment. And then he was
like, oh, I'm hung over for the next week.
You know?
Yeah. Well, I feel
very good about where we're at as far as
starting pushing is concerned. And somebody else,
I don't know if it was Beir Asama.
Somebody in here said that we have 10
games left
or it was a Bory Man.
10 games left to get the bullpen right.
Yeah, you got 10 games.
10 games and we're about to find out.
We're about to find out.
Well, we'll be here again tomorrow before one of those games.
We will be live again 12 o'clock Pacific time, 3 p.m. Eastern time.
We don't know what that show is going to look like.
We need to get a lot to bed because she has fair tomorrow.
She has foul tomorrow.
She has D.T. tomorrow.
And then you could pass out for a week or at least.
Yeah, I got all three territories tomorrow.
So you guys, thanks so much for being here.
We appreciate it, 465 watching right now.
We appreciate you guys very much.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I also, to add one of the thing, I'm going to be live jumping over to my YouTube channel right now,
all Dodgers.
Right now, right?
Continue the conversation.
Come join myself, Jeff Snyder.
Okay, yep.
So go over and join Jeff and Clint, and then Clint and I will be back tomorrow at regular time,
three Eastern, 12 Pacific.
Appreciate you guys very much.
We'll see you tomorrow.
Go, Dodgers.
