So I implore everybody
to continue enjoying this. Let it burn.
Don't put the goggles on.
And let's have some fun.
And welcome to the Friday edition of Dodgers territory.
I am Alana Rizzo.
That, of course, is Clint Paseas, handling all of the directorial duties.
Katie Wu, a little bit under the weather.
So we're going to give her the afternoon off just to make sure that she can rest up.
She couldn't cowboy up.
She couldn't cowgirl up.
She lost her voice properly for screaming at the top of her lungs when the Dodgers clenched the NL West.
Congratulations to the boys in blue.
The Los Angeles Dodgers returning home, Clint,
after clinching their 13th division title in the last 14 years,
five straight division titles for the boys in blue.
They did it in grand fashion yesterday.
Eight to two, that was the victory over the Cincinnati Reds.
Good to see it.
Not surprised.
Happy to see it.
Lots to talk about in terms of how they got there.
Let's get to the big ticket.
This is something that you and I have talked to.
about I think Clint when we've looked at other teams that have clinched whether it's a wild card
birth or they're just getting into the postseason any way that they can sometimes people go a little
bananas when they sell you have Rogers right who still had a great time doing it but it's kind of like
been there done that but I will say this I do think it is important regardless of whether it's
your first or your 50th I think it's very important to celebrate each and every victory because
you honestly never know when it's going to happen again.
What's your take on that?
Yeah, I mean, it's an important thing, you know,
um, went through some lean years following this team for the last, you know,
30 years or so, got into, as I've noted a number of times,
got into baseball a little bit later.
My first time really, really watching baseball 2001,
enjoyed the hell out of that Yankees Diamondback series, uh, you know,
2002, really, really fun world series.
And after that, I was like, all right, I'm into it.
Still would watch the Dodgers before then, but then you're really into the nitty-gritty of the season.
What a great time to become a Dodger fan, 2003, that vaunted bullpen, Eric Gagne, Guillermo Motta, Kevin Brown in the starting rotation.
But there was always a bugaboo.
The Dodgers weren't very good when it came to getting to the postseason.
They're actually really good baseball teams then, and now those teams definitely would have made the playoffs, of course, with half the league,
making the flip and post season thanks to multiple wild card spots.
But, you know, there were a lot of very good teams at that time.
So the Dodgers make the playoffs once in 2004.
They win that N.L. West Crown.
They win one game.
We all celebrate Lima time.
And then 2006, you see, what is it, J.D. Drew and Jeff Kent, I believe it was,
get thrown out back-to-back at home, played against the Mets.
And then you make the World Series 08, 09, and then you get into the ugliness.
the lean years of the end of the McCourt era.
And, you know, obviously it's bad times in between.
I love to look back at that 2005, the awfulness of that Dodgers team,
that, you know, the silver lining of that team being bad,
it ended up netting the Dodgers, Clayton Kershaw,
which was kind of the spearhead into getting into this era of success.
But celebrate this.
Max Muncie said it.
I know we've done this a lot, but you can never take it for granted.
There will be a time, Alana, where we are not just having this be a foregone conclusion
that the Dodgers are going to be in the playoffs, they're going to be in the postseason.
They're going to win their 800th division crown in a row.
So I implore everybody to continue enjoying this.
Let it burn.
Don't put the goggles on.
And let's have some fun.
Agreed.
That's what Kirschaw always used to say, right?
He never wore goggles in those post-game celebrations or those clinching types of celebrations
because he wanted to let it burn, the beer and the champagne in his eyes.
And I agree with Max Munson.
I think if you ask Max or anybody else that's in this game actively or in the past,
they would all tell you the same thing.
Celebrate when you can because it's not a foregone conclusion to reiterate what you said.
It's not a foregone conclusion that you're going to be there.
I mean, there are guys that have played, you know, 17, 20 years in the big leagues
and never have gone to the postseason.
I don't even think Mike Trout has yet won a postseason game.
It's not.
So, you know, one of the better players in the game may never be able to taste this.
A lot of it depends on the team that is surrounding you.
A lot of it depends on the team that you play for.
A lot of it depends on your ownership group.
A lot of it depends on health.
A lot of it depends on luck.
There's so many different factors that go into this.
And we have become accustomed to the Dodgers being able to be so good perennially.
But there were times that obviously this did not happen year in and year out.
I didn't really get into covering baseball until 2007.
So, you know, a little over almost 20 years ago.
But, you know, I covered the Colorado Rockies for the first five seasons of my big league career.
And in 2007, they went, right, after winning, you know, 21 out of 22 games.
But it's been a long time since, you know, they went back, I think, in 2004 against and ended up losing, that was, you know, whatever, 2007, when they lost to the Red Sox in the World Series after winning the sweeping the DS and the CS.
But who knows if Colorado ever gets back to the postseason,
they're two wins away from losing 100 games this year.
You know what I mean?
So obviously the Rockies are not the Dodgers,
two very differently run organizations.
But enjoy this because it may not be a definitive every single year.
It's not a right of passage.
There will be hard times again.
You never know.
Like if ownership changes hands and those types of things,
you never know.
You never know what it's going to be like.
All right.
So I admit it's...
That ownership thing right now, it's feeling a little too real.
We have not talked a whole lot about the Mark Walter situation.
And we're not doing that today.
It's a little prickly.
Let's say that the ownership situation right now is a little bit prickly.
But let me ask you this.
I admit I did not watch a ton of the Sportsnet LA postseason coverage.
I just couldn't in terms of timing on what was going on here on the East Coast.
I saw a lot of stuff, of course, on Instagram and X and all of the different things.
But were there any moments other than Kike,
putting a bottle of alcohol down Yamamoto's pants
that stuck out to you as far as their postseason celebration
and Sinci was concerned?
Listen, we are always going to enjoy
Kike being Kike, there's also a great photo of him
and Freddie Freeman hugging on each other and whatnot.
Yeah, it's a team that knows how to celebrate.
You saw also like Tarek Scouble,
he had his Budweiser box fort he was trying to build
to get away from guys.
You got Alex Vessia fucking around with Evan Phillips saying,
it was like, you give them the basic boring, bland answer or whatever.
You know, just really good stuff.
One of the things I appreciated was a pair of our aces.
I don't know how much you've been able to really enjoy the budding love affair
between Terec Scoubles and, of course, S. S. S. Nell, getting Blake's,
them together.
and we're going to play some video here from Sportsnet.
I really love these dudes together,
and the way they're going to keep pushing each other through the postseason,
of course, we'll have some Snell talking a little bit.
Last time we were live, he had just pitched one inning in that Sinci series.
But I enjoyed this, and I want everybody to enjoy it in case they missed it.
Here is Scoobes and Snell.
Oh, guys, congratulations, NOS champions.
You sit on the chess.
You like being over here so far, being a part of this NLS championship?
What'd you say?
How does you like being over here being a part of this NLW championship?
Oh, it's a ton of fun.
The group here is great.
It's a ton of fun to celebrate, you know, these moments with these guys.
It's going to be special.
It's going to be the first of many.
Tell him it's going to be special because you're playing this postseason with your boy.
Yeah, this is my best friend.
He's my little brother.
Yeah, but it's a ton of fun.
Are you being forced to say that?
No, no, the feeling's mutual.
The feeling's mutual.
We've got forced on.
He's my little brother.
a little big bro we've got four zayyungs right here what excites you guys most just what you
two can do come october the opportunity to get another world series that's that's that's the most
important fun and smart i'm a pocket you see i got my boys back i got his back that's love that's
that's a lot of love i appreciate that yeah i think that i mean the opportunity right to play in october
that's every spring training that's what you show up ready to do is to go out and compete in october
and have a chance to win a world series and you know i love our odds here
Guys, congratulations. Enjoy this. It only gets better.
Only better.

What I try to do is faux journal.
I don't know.
Have you guys heard of faux journaling?
Yeah, it's reading.
It's called reading.
So we don't like to use that word anymore.
Okay.
A panel of New Yorker cartoonists.
Have you guys done Terry Gross's Peloton class?
No!
I've been dying too.
I'm so sorry.
I'm seeing a reading of Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Audra McDonald's at the Wonderland Bookstore.
That's crazy.
I went to the Wonderland Bookstore.
yesterday and I heard Nora Jones do a reading of Zero Dark 30.
No way.
You have to come to the last bookstore, though.
Kim Cottrell is reading the guitar tabs of yesterday.

Listen to artists.
on artists, on artists, on artists, on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
The new NFL season is here, and you should be listening to NFL Daily as we march along to Super Bowl 61.
Last year, we had Mike McDonald, Sam Darnold on the field after the game.
But that was last year.
If you're a football sicko like me, NFL Daily is your kind of show.
It is in the name NFL Daily, fresh content in your feed every day all season.
and long. Matthew Stafford coming off his MVP season.
On a dazzling darts from Matthew Stafford.
Big time trades that shake up the NFL.
A.J. Brown is loose.
And of course, those Seahawks trying to run it back and win another Lombardi trophy.
The Seahawks win Super Bowl 60.
They are bringing the Lombardy back to the Northwest.
If it's happening on a football field, NFL Daily will cover it.
Listen to NFL Daily on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
So good.
I really appreciate Snell.
Wish he was on the field a little bit more at times, obviously.
Wish he was a little more available here and there.
But he's a fun character, and he's kind of, I don't know, feels like in a way Alana has become the kind of de facto leader of that starting rotation,
probably by virtue of him just being the most joyful dude.
but yeah, I love that.
By the way, it's important to note.
Blake Snell is the older one, so he would be the big brother.
Thankfully, they corrected that.
I think it's funny, and the whole bromance thing that is brewing between those two guys is fun to see.
Obviously, two Saly Young Award winners in their own right.
They've had some really important moments in their career,
pitch some pretty important innings.
You know, it's funny to hear Tarek Scouble said the first of many.
I think a lot of people were taking that out of context, saying the first of many for him with the Dodgers in the NL.S.
in terms of the future of his career.
I think personally what he was referring to
is the first of many Dodgers
post-game celebrations
for playoff opportunities
for 2006.
So this, the D.S, the CES, and the World Series.
So he's, that's first.
It's the first of four.
Yeah, first of four and then the crazy parade.
So I think that's what he meant by that.
I think a lot of people are like, ooh, what does that mean?
Is he coming back?
So anyway, that being said, good for them.
Congratulations.
It's not easy to do what they have done,
but they did it in good fashion,
taking three of four in Cincinnati,
two of the three aces.
They aced, Clint, they aced.
A good bullpen game was led by Justin Robleski,
Robo, friend of the show, at the top.
So good all around.
And by the way, this is important to note, I guess,
better late than never.
Welcome to the Dodgers Kyle Tucker.
Yeah.
Four for five, a home run, two doubles.
three RBI. He was a triple shy of the cycle, or as Bill Plunkett, friend of the show likes to say,
the tricycle. Tri-Cycle. He looked really good. He looked really good. It took a long dang time.
I mean, he did have a grand slam the other day. That was kind of his daughter moment. I thought too.
However, if you're going to get hot, now's a good time. Don't look now. Don't look now. Don't let Tucker
get hot. $60 million for you to show up and play in September and October. I'm cool with that.
I'll take that and you see
month over month, yeah, it's been
a shitty season for Tucker, you know that,
I know that, he knows that,
everybody in the world knows that, but the most
important part is five dingers,
975 OPS here in the
month of September, it actually gets a little bit
better if you eliminate that first game
of the month where he
put up an Ofer, he's
280, has 280
average with an OPS a little over
1,000 since September 2nd.
You see here on the screen the last 10
games 353, no PS pushing 1,300. Yes, we know he still plays well on the road. We need to get a
little bit more of that out of him at Dodger Stadium, but I think it's time for people to start
giving a few flowers to Kyle Tucker. You know, it takes some time. He's got a lot of things. We've
talked about it also in the past. There's a lot of things going on in his life. Playing with a
new team, again, in a different city. I think him and his wife had a kid this year. There's changes.
you know, going on in his life.
That being said, it took too long.
It took too long.
I can appreciate that it takes some time.
That's fine, but, you know, 150 games.
That's a long time.
That's a long time.
And again, no disrespect.
He does what I could never do.
It's funny how, you know, we can.
You could strike out, I believe in you.
I could strike out.
Actually, yeah, I could strike out.
I could strike out.
I don't think I could actually make contact with a baseball.
And if I did, it wouldn't get out of the infield.
The point is it's easy for us to say that,
these guys need to do better.
But when you're a Kyle Tucker and you have that resume
and you're paid a lot of money,
150 games is a long time to get things going.
But to your point,
if he can really start to pay dividends in October,
I'm all for that.
What he has done in his last eight games,
just to build upon what you were saying,
414, 486, 1000 is the line there.
12 for 29 with four home runs,
10 ribbies.
We call those stakes, Clint.
in his last eight games.
So there you have it.
There you have it.
Now he'll be able to get a test or a taste rather.
And they've played each other before, obviously,
but of a second to last or third to last series
between the Dodgers and the Giants at home
to really go into this postseason with some fire.
So good on you, King Tuck.
We appreciate it, guys.
Don't forget to like and subscribe.
We appreciate that very much as well as we continue to make our way.

We got some updates.
We got some news.
This is the part where Katie Wu was going to be the heavy hitter for us,
but I guess I'll just be heavy and I will hit for stealing some thunder,
stealing some of her work here.
Of course, she penned a column while being sick.
I guess you don't need to be able to talk to write unless she does, you know, talk to text.
But anyways, yeah, we know the Dodgers right here, as it says.
They're again, kings of the NOS.
But over these nine games in 10 days, there is a lot of work to be done before the end of the season.
There is a bit of a checklist, you know, you got to get that first round by.
Alana, you got to get Shohei Otani and other friends healthy before the NLDS, provided you get that first round.
round by. So what is left for the Dodgers? Let's talk about the like snail thing. Okay. I think the biggest
thing. And again, you can check out Katie's entire article on the athletic, way more meat on the bone
when you read it. But Clint and I'll just kind of give you the Cliff Notes version or the Katie
notes version of certain things. All right. So for me, the biggest thing that they have to get through
in terms of what is left is just get to the starting gate healthy. Just get to the end.
of the regular season healthy. Obviously, the biggest thing left to check Clint is that first round
buy. If they can somehow solidify the first round by, obviously we're paying attention to what
Arizona is doing or not Arizona, Atlanta's doing, you know, what Philly's doing, all of the things.
That's important to me. Being able to set your rotation the way that you want to and get those
extra couple of days of rest, I think is massive. So to me, that's the bigger thing. And then
where is Shohei Otani?
I mean, Dave, Robert saying he's feeling normal-ish.
What does that mean to you?
I don't know.
Normal-ish is not great to me, but I mean, I don't know.
I don't know what that means.
Yeah, I would argue the updates on Sho-hay haven't been great.
And that one, you know, it's a very Dave way of saying, I think, I don't really know where
Sho-hay is at.
We know he's not going to be 100% to and through the postseason, however long
the Dodgers may make it through the postseason, hopefully, the very latest playing until
Halloween, which would be game seven of the World Series.
But yeah, normalish is interesting.
You got this update as well from Andrew Friedman, the player of baseball operations.
A little more meat to his bone here, saying he's progressing well, started swinging the bat
earlier in the week, and he's going to be eligible to come out the aisle on Wednesday.
Andrew's saying, I expect him back in the regular season.
when asked how many at bats, Friedman shrugged.
I think Shohey, getting these days off for show, it was paramount.
You know, just giving a chance to rest, more so kind of hopefully knock on desk
mitigate some of the bad habits that he'd probably gotten into with that swing
while trying to battle against some of the injuries and discomfort he was feeling not only in
the knee, but in the bicep, which is going up into the knee.
neck and all this kind of stuff.
Getting him healthy, getting him his summit bats, and then getting the swing just kind of going.
You know, using different clubs, we don't need to see 400, 500-foot dinger show hay out there.
He needs to be a contributing factor at the top of the lineup, whether it's taking some walks,
taking some good at bats, not expanding the zone, which we saw him doing a lot in those final
games before they kind of realize, okay, we need to pull the plug here.
But I'm going to take this as a positive update.
Okay.
Okay.
I think the thing is the reason he's expanding the zone and he's chasing outside is he's trying to compensate for not feeling well.
Like he's trying to maneuver his body to try to make contact and be productive when he's not feeling exactly where he needs to feel to be in, you know, the place of rhythm and timing where he's the most successful.
I think he's trying to, you know, prove that he's okay and wants to stay out there.
And God bless him for wanting to be in the lineup every single day.
but you're hurting yourself,
you're hurting your chances even further, perhaps physically,
and ultimately, when you're not productive,
as you can see what he was doing in the last 10 games,
I mean, that ain't it.
That's not going to cut it, right?
That's not, we all know those aren't show hay numbers.
Come on.
This guy's a multi-time MVP.
He's obviously not right.
So that's a key thing of getting him more normal-ish,
whatever that means.
The biggest thing for me, Clint, is Blake Snell.
Because the whole groin injury,
and I was kind of hard on him and Tyler Glasnow on our,
Wednesday, whatever it was, Tuesday, whatever it was.
You know, they're not on the field a lot, and they're not.
When they're on there, they're one of the best in the game.
But again, the best ability is availability, and they need to be more available.
Now, obviously, is the time they need to be more available.
The postseason matters.
Like, you can't, you know, you can't, especially in a five-game series,
you can't not be at your best every time a guy takes the ball.
So he does expect to make one more start this season.
But he, as you noted, Clint, is another guy that would really benefit for some days off
before the start of the division series.
And because of that,
so it's kind of a two-parter that I want you to weigh in on,
I think that that's why they continue to ramp up Roki Sasaki to be a starter.
Because you don't know if, you know, one more tweak is really going to mess up the groin injury.
Yeah, and that was something, you know, on the day he came out of the game,
Snell, which was the Tuesday, no, the Wednesday outing,
Roki Sasaki had thrown a four-inning 48 pitch simulated game there,
at Great American Ballpark because, yeah, it makes a lot of sense either way, whether or not
Snell was going to be injured that day or not.
I think it makes a lot more sense to have Rokey built up break in case of emergency over these
last NEO-9 games.
Rather, it's a lot easier to ramp them down to a two or three or four-inning role than
it is to ramp them up to six innings come October.
So I think that's probably the smartest play right now.
we know the best version of this Dodgers bullpen probably has Roki Sasaki in it.
But, you know, right now, a word they love to use, Alana, you know, is optionality.
Keeping him somewhere in that 60 to 75 pitch range, at least gives them some October
optionality if the Snell groin injury is a little bit worse, or if Tyler Glasnow is kind of maybe
battling through some back issues and looked like he was kind of stretching some things out
in his previous start, his most recent start before.
kind of settling in and cruising there.
So yeah, the state of the starting rotation, much like we talked about for a lot of
the season when before he got traded, they didn't have River Ryan.
Gavin Stone was unavailable for this team.
Now we know Shohei Otani will not be starting for this team in October.
To have the one other guy who can give you some bulk innings at the bare minimum or
potentially start of game four if needed, having that will be huge just as a break in case
of emergency situation.
And I love the fact that Roki Sasaki has kind of become what Ross Stripling was when Chicken Strip was with this team, kind of like that accordion, right?
Like you stretch him out when you need them in the starting rotation.
You kind of smash him back together when you needed him to come out of the bullpen.
Now, Chicken Strip had the best attitude in the world, and he was the one that would do anything.
What I love about this situation is that Roki Sasaki has experience coming out of the bullpen in the postseason.
He was obviously incredibly effective last year.
So that is not something that's going to be foreign to him.
or new to him because he's already done it.
Hopefully, Snell is okay.
Hopefully, Scoobble stays healthy in his spine.
Hopefully Yama continues to be the Ironman that he is.
You know, Glass, Snell, Yama, Scoobel, great.
I would love it if Roki could be in the pen.
But if they need to stretch him out, he has the starting experience too,
and that is the optionality that you're talking about.
I think that is so important.
All right.
Andy Pahez, apparently, with that fractured left hand,
is expected to be active.
during this series against San Francisco.
Of course, the series starts today,
so no rest for the weary.
I don't care how much you partied last night.
You're back on the field today.
He's been out since August 21st.
He had been heating up, hitting 288 with an OPS over 800 before he went down.
So he is back.
So let's get him in the mix, Clint,
with some rhythm and timing as he gets ready for the postseason.
But what do you believe is the corresponding move here?
Yeah.
Well, first on Pahas, it might not be for this series.
I think the wording they used gave them a little bit of, we'll say, optionality again.
I said during, during the series.
Yeah, during the series, they said final homestands, so it could be this series.
It could be, you know, during that Padre series, which was about the time frame people sort of had circle.
Circle does a best case scenario.
Obviously took the fastball off of his left hand.
and you've got to be real cautious when you're talking about that lead hand for a right-handed batter swing
because there's just so many things, you know, check swing in real time and all that kind of stuff.
But yeah, if he's going to be available, obviously you've got to create a roster spot for him.
And you and I were having a little bit of a conversation about this before going live.
It's down to two names for me.
I mean, for the rest of this regular season, I think he's still on the active roster for some on guys.
reason, Eliezer Alfonso, that's probably your most easy move. But when you get to the month of
October, is it going to be Josue de Paula? Like, is he going to be on this postseason roster?
And somebody had asked that, by the way, in the chat, Chico Dopeness was asking, and I'll go
ahead and pop it on the screen for all of us here. Will DePaula, you know, now be on the postseason
roster? I don't know if I've seen a whole lot that says he deserves it, but also I don't know if I've
seen a whole lot that says he doesn't deserve it?
I mean, are you thinking, the way I look at it and what the heck do I know, but the way I look
at it is I would rather have Hose-Wa-Wa-Depala just continue to get a runway and get some
big league get-bats?
Does that mean he needs to be on the postseason roster?
I don't know, but who do you think is going to be more effective as an overall player
on the post-season?
I'm thinking speed.
I'm thinking ground-covered.
I'm thinking that type of thing.
Is it him or Freeland?
I kind of want to give it to DePaul.
Yeah, I mean, between those two, I definitely.
Definitely lean de Paola, by the way.
We've got to start getting into the habits.
De Paola.
It is de Paola.
If we're doing it right.
De Paola.
Boy, if we're saying it, the Spanish.
He's not Italian.
Hey!
I'm sorry to be a paula.
I'm sorry.
We're idiots at times, but that's what makes us fun.
Yeah, immediately when Andy Paix is available, it should and will be L.A.
Zer Afonzo giving up that roster spot.
but if you're talking about that final spot on the bench,
I know they really want to have Dalton rushing in the mix.
They're saying he's still throwing, or not throwing,
he's still hitting, he's swinging.
Right now, I mean, DePaula is playing in major league games.
He's competing.
We saw the big game over the weekend with the Homer and the double.
He puts together, honestly, pretty good at bats.
We haven't seen a whole lot.
When Dalton came back, he, you know,
had been out for a little while, kind of rushed into games and didn't look terribly great
before re-aggravating that elbow.
I just think, give me the hot hand, the guy who's playing right now,
rather than the guy who's been very in and out over the last month and a half.
So I think when it comes down to it, it will be,
there won't be a Dalton rushing, it will be DePaula on the postseason roster.
And Alex Freeland at that point kind of doesn't make sense to the greater,
plan. And admittedly, Freeland has been playing a better branded baseball at late. So a little bit of
flowers for him as well. But in October, you don't really need him when you also have Kiki, yeah, Tommy
Edmund, and so on and so forth, those type of dudes. Yeah, I mean, I'm glad I don't have to make these
decisions. But we also have to remember, or we have to remind each other and our fan base here
that it's not about, I don't care if anybody hurts your, if you get your feelings hurt. This is about
who is the best 26 named roster to make the most impacting
and get the most wins and win another World Series.
Did you know that Jose de Paola was born in Brooklyn, New York?
I thought he, the more you know.
Yes, he was born in Brooklyn, New York.
He's only 21 years old.
He's just a widow guy.
So he could be a, yo!
He could be.
Oh!
Anyway.
So one more thing I want to talk about.
Great segue, by the way.
great segue into the best 26 for October talking to Edwin Diaz here.
Does Edwin Diaz make the postseason roster?
Dave's saying all the right things, right?
Like he has to earn a spot, all of the things coming into lower leverage situations.
I don't know, man.
I don't know.
Yeah, they're saying that he needs to prove himself.
They're saying that maybe over the span of nine regular seasons games remaining that
Edwin Diaz could potentially pitch himself onto the postseason roster. I think right now,
that is the mindset that Diaz needs to have, that Dave Roberts in the front office needs to have,
that he is trying to pitch his way on. He is not on the postseason roster, in my opinion,
right now. He hasn't done a goddamn thing to earn it at any point over this just abysmal,
absolute disaster of a first season of a three-year deal here. You know, you wrote down some of the numbers
in our rundown here,
an ERA,
Chase in 12.
I don't know, Alana.
I can't,
I just can't imagine
Edwin Diaz doing enough
over these nine games
and the expectation is
that he will be activated tonight.
I can't see him doing enough
to pitch his way on that.
I think if he comes in
with bases loaded situation
every single time
and gets out of it
every single time
and does backflips
all the way around the diamond,
he might have a chance.
I just don't.
I just don't, I mean, he did not have good numbers in the minor leagues.
Like, it wasn't like he was absolutely crushing it down there.
You know what I mean?
They were crushing balls off of him, but he was not crushing it.
So I don't know.
And I was, I'm so upset about this because I was so excited.
This was my most exciting off-season acquisition for the Dodgers coming into the season.
I was so, I was like, wow, our bullpen is absolutely nails now.
It's absolutely nails.
And he has just absolutely had a horrible, horrible first year as a Dodger.
I hope that changes in the remaining two.
years, but mercy.
It has not been pretty. So I'm saying right now, unless he shows you something incredibly
special, I don't see him on that postseason roster at all. Again, glad I'm not the one
that has to make these decisions, but he has to earn a spot in that postseason bullpen because
you know it's going to come down to pitching and defense and honestly, who has the better pen.
So there you have it. All right. Let's get to last looks.

I don't know.
Have you guys heard of faux journaling?
Yeah.
It's reading. It's called reading.
So we don't like to use that word anymore.
Okay.
A panel of New Yorker cartoonists.
Have you guys done Terry Gross's Peloton class?
No!
I've been dying too.
I'm so sorry.
I'm seeing a reading of Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Audra McDonald's at the Wonderland Bookstore on 14.
That's crazy.
I went to the Wonderland Bookstore yesterday and I heard Nora Jones do a reading of Zero Dark 30.
No way.

here, and you should be listening to NFL Daily as we march along to Super Bowl 61.
Last year, we had Mike McDonald, Sam Darnold, on the field after the game.
But that was last year.

First and foremost, I want to give a massive.
massive shout out to Nancy Brown, who did such an amazing job bidding on the bobblehead.
I'm sure she doesn't want it, but she did it for the Pups.
We raised $410 for Gidreys Guardian Foundation, which will do so much to help us get George,
who is that little Frenchie that we found as a stray.
When his stray hold is up, he is going to get neutered, and that will help us.
His bill is about 650, so that will go a long way.
Thank you, thank you, Nancy, and to everybody that bid on that, I really appreciate it.
This is Caroline, and she's not quite ready for an adopter yet.
She has, we got her from Texas, and she's actually related to CORE, who has been adopted
by a huge Dodger-loving family in Montana, the Torres family, but CORE is good and healthy
and safe.
Caroline is still dealing with some heartworm issues.
So we got to get her through all the heart-warm stuff and get her healthy enough to
be adopted.
So unfortunately, she's on medication right now for 30 days, and then she starts her injections,
and that's going to require three hospitalization stays
in terms of overnight.
So it's about $2,000.
So none of this is cheap, guys.
Rescue is not inexpensive.
So if we could please get some donations
to help with her medical,
that would be unbelievably helpful.
Thank you so very much.
All right.
So Caroline, that's the last Licks.
Again, thank you, Nancy Brown.
We appreciate you.
You have a very fun thought for the road,
kind of taking us back to yesteryear.
What is it?
Yeah, happy 20th anniversary.
of your four plus one game,
the great one of my favorites,
Mike Petriello,
sharing this today.
Go watch that video, by the way,
if you didn't see it back in the days.
But yeah, 2006,
Dodgers, Padres in a heated race
for that NL West.
Should have been a pretty good game.
I think that game,
I know the Dodgers started Brad Penny.
I forgot who started for the Padres,
but it was a back and forth,
like, who's going to give up the most runs?
Dodgers, of course, down by four entering the bottom of the ninth, and then you just
rattle off one of the greatest, it's like, oh, crap, is this really going to happen?
Because it starts with, what is it, J.D. Drew, Dodgers legend there, of course, hits a homer.
Yeah, oh, yeah.
Jeff Kent follows with a homer.
They pull the guy who was trying, I forgot who was in at that point.
But they bring in Hall of Fame closer Trevor Hoffman, first pitch,
Martin just cranks one into the left field pavilion. Dodgers suddenly chasing by one,
nobody out in this bottom of the ninth inning. And up comes, not even September, sorry, the waiver
wire acquisition, Marlon Anderson, who became a fan favorite throughout that month. He hits that
fourth Homer to tie the game, the absolute anarchy in the stadium, in the dugout,
just watching people, watching Andre Etherre React is still one of my favorite moments from that
particular scenario.
But the fun story time for me, Alana,
was I was technically at this
game, but I was not
there. So, and this is not because I was,
as you asked earlier, not because I was
drunk or blacked out or something like that.
I was but a mere boy.
I mean, I was still like 20 or 21 at that time.
But, so me and a friend, back in the day,
as you guys probably recall,
back in the day, you can go to Dodger Stadium,
park for pretty cheap, walk around. You'd find
scalpers selling tickets for relatively
cheap, usually most games. Like I said,
though this was a game that there were playoff implications.
The Dodgers were trying to win their second NOS in two years,
haven't done it 2004, 2006.
There's some pomp and circumstance, the heating rivalry between the Dodgers and the Padres.
So the ticket prices were up.
And me and my friend weren't flush with cash, so we said,
F this, we're going home.
So I ended up watching the game in my layer like I usually would at that time.
And maybe it's the cope for me to say that it was more.
enjoyable to watch at home.
Because I've been at Dodger Stadium when those type of, like, insanity moments happen.
You have been there as well where the place is rumbling.
Every fan is just on their feet.
Yeah, that guy.
But Vin, hearing it with Mr. Vin Scully, our friend, because he's all our friend,
even if you didn't know him, you still heard him, and he was your friend.
Absolutely.
Having Vin describe what happened.
So, of course, again, the Dodgers tie it up, bottom of the ninth, give up the lead.
I think Rudy, no, Rudy Sien is the one who ends up giving up the Homer to, damn, now I forgot that particular situation.
Anyways, Dodgers give up the lead in the top of the 10th, chasing by one.
You go into that bottom of the 10th inning.
Kenny Lofton gets a, he takes a walk, get the old Kenny Lofton bat drop.
That's always fun.
And then Noma, with a, I think, partially torn quad at the time, cranks a two-run walk-off Homer,
no Mars moment in a Dodger uniform.
It was fun. It still elicits chills. Here we are 20 years later
talking about that situation, that scenario. It was fun game. That was a
really, really fun game. So again, if you guys are newer to watching
Dodger baseball, watch this game. Go watch the 4 plus one
game. And yeah, enjoy the holidays because it is worth celebrating.
Yeah, that is awesome. And by the way, the Padre started Jake Peavy that game.
So it was,
Peter Penny versus,
yeah,
Brad Penny versus Jake Peabee.
Yeah,
good times.
Happy anniversary
four plus one.
And again,
congratulations to your
Los Angeles Dodgers,
our Los Angeles daughters,
NL West Division champions once again.
All right,
Clint and I and Katie will be back.
At least Katie and I for sure
will be back on Monday.
Clint might be doing something else.
So have a great weekend,
you guys.
Let's get these giants,
put them in their place,
continue to put them in their place.
We'll see you next week.
Have a great weekend.
Go Dodgers.
Yeah, we also got this, by the way, real quickly.
Less tucking go from Latino Slant, $1.99 Super Chat.
Yes, Latino Slant.
$1.99 from S.K. Wonderful saying Joe Coy's new special,
all Dodgers fans should watch it.
We appreciate the support there.
And Richie wanted to get this in real quick.
He's out of Super Chat money, but the Padre series still means something.
Don't let that emotional little brother BS take away from regular Dodger baseball.
But Manning's his favorite player, by the way.
Okay, that's it.
I figured I just throw those in.
Appreciate you guys.
We'll see you on Monday.
Bye.
