suspicious things that could be going on i don't want to speculate too much on it because the news has not come out of it but she did make a video recently and her family's family is speculating yes about it yeah she did make a video recently said she woke up with no memory so really scary really sad sad sad sad yeah yeah i've been i've donated to beauty of the streets Like, I first learned about her during the pandemic. Mm-hmm. Me too. And then also, you know, as you're hearing this, it's Black History Month. We've got four Black journalists that have been arrested by the feds, including Don Lemon.

The others, their names are Trahearn Jean Cruz, Georgia Fort, Jamel Lindell Lundy. And they've been arrested in connection with the coordinated attack on the city's church and the coverage that they were doing on the coordinated attack on city churches in St. Paul, Minnesota. Yeah. So, you know, the political party who loves to cite our constitution

for their right to bear arms, just like completely ignoring every other aspect of the constitution. And like, you know, obviously, like all of it is like so scary, but historically silencing and arresting the press is like a... It's silencing democracy.

It is like it's a sign that we are moving towards a society where there is no freedoms. Yeah. We're rapidly slipping into fascism, which we've been there. But like it's like a really steep decline. And like that's like one of the cues they use in Handmaid's Tale that like the press is getting arrested and that sets the state like that's that big cue for shit is really going down. So it's like really scary. And like the thing that I keep thinking about is like they're really acting like they don't have to worry about an election. Yeah. Which is really fucking scary. Right. So pay attention to your to the national news, but also pay attention to your local news. You know, follow candidates that align with what your beliefs are and vote in your local elections. They are more important. They're always important, but they're more important than ever. yeah yes yes yes yes yes this is a time where you can't look away and i am getting increasingly frustrated with um white content creators like making content saying like if you're not going to make content talking about being political then like just don't but like don't be like you know everyone like the news is really tough like if you need some escape like this is your permission to like unplug and i go then unplug you don't have to help just do that yeah don't tell people um you know i unplugged because i'm sick of that kind of content so i have deleted

tiktok um i did delete my instagram but i do need it for a few things so re-download it again but i'm not i'm only using it for like work stuff yeah and i'm sending updates that you need yeah so i'll talk about things here and i'm looking at the actual news so it's just it's increasingly infuriating because escapism will always exist but to like promote escapism i find very very very fucking weird yep very fucking weird so first up hi i'm megan melissa i'm 24 she her and writing in for advice on having a life outside of work and feeling like an adult i feel like ever since i graduated college my life has been consumed by my job and nothing else i went to college out of state and moved back in with my parents after graduating my job is finally in a place where i

don't need to consistently work all the time but unfortunately this free time is making me feel like a huge loser. I haven't dated anyone since I was a teenager. All of my friends are spread out across different states except for one who I see about once a month. I'm really struggling with finding ways to meet new people, romantic or platonic. I'm not in a big city, so there aren't many events centered around meeting new people. I've been avoiding using dating apps because I don't really have privacy and I haven't wanted to explain that I'm going on dates to my family. I feel like I've been wasting my life and wishing away time. Any advice on how to get out there and meet new people is appreciated thank you oh i think melissa is definitely going to take the

lead on this one because i also probably need some advice on this as well okay so if you want to go on dates regardless if you're on dating apps or not if you're living home with your family they're going to know unless you're just saying i'm going to hang out with a friend which you can say because that it's not really lying you're going to meet a new friend that's you the person you date should be somebody you want to be friends with so it's not a lie no it's a technicality yeah um as far as they're not being you know events it doesn't necessarily have to be an event you could go to the library you could go to i don't know if there's like sporting events around you can go to any literally just get out the house just go places go to a restaurant go to a bar

go places and talk to people I think the main thing is just talking to people you're used to being at home you're just talking to your family you just have to get out and talk and talk you can I know you said that there's not you live in a small town and there's not a lot of things to do there probably are things to do because I feel like small towns foster community even better than big cities do yeah you just have to look so I think like going someplace like a library there's going to be they have things posted and there will be events listed can you how far are you away from a bigger city can you go over to neighboring towns you just got to get out the house that's the thing get out and you will find things yeah my first question is do you work from

home or do you work in an office? Because if you work from home, I would find like rotate different cafes or like places where like you can work and like and like, you know, grab a coffee or do something like that. You might find a lot of other people who are doing that same kind of thing in your age bracket. And if you work in an office, then I would make a point to like try different places for lunch and like get the vibe of different areas, especially like if you're in a small, small town i wonder if there's a part of you that is like you know there's not as much play to meet new people and also like there's not new people like it's the same if it's the same people then you need to small towns as someone who grew up there they're like melissa said there's so much

like there is there are so many community driven activities for like all age ranges there's always something to do do you always want to do it no but it doesn't have to be your small town either It can be like the next town over, just like slightly widening that circle. But in order to meet new people, you have to have new routines. You can't do the same thing every time. And it's like, well, I do leave the house. If you go to the same restaurant for lunch every single day, if you go to the same pharmacy, go to the same grocery store, you go to the same workout class, you're going to see the

same people over and over again. If you want to be friends with those people or make connections to those people and you just have to get comfortable, then yes, keep going to those things and introduce yourself to those people. But if you're looking to broaden that circle, you have to broaden your own circle like new people aren't just going to fly in. You have to like expand that as well. And being friendly goes like a really long way because I think if you are friendly and someone is receptive to that, that automatically to me tells me that like, oh, you are interested in fostering a friendship, a connection or you're just whatever it is. And even it can, like, get the rust off of you of, like, socializing with, like, your peers in a way if you can, like, be friendly with someone and have, like, just quick little small talk. But also, you know, I think, like, being honest with people, be like, hey, like, I just moved back home and I've been, like, so entrenched with work, like, would love to hang out sometime, like, would love to, like, whatever. and even if those people are like oh my god I'm totally like swamped I really don't have time for

that socially but I have a friend who just moved in here she will I'm sure you guys would hit it off it'll be great whatever but like just knowing that they might not be your like best friends or like a romantic connection immediately but it just widens the circle to make opportunities to meet those people that you vibe with like the first couple it might not be that and I know a lot of people recommend like Bumble BFF and stuff like that. I've never used that, so I can't like attest to that. But I think like socializing is a muscle and you, the same way with dating, it's a muscle. If you want to do it, you have to practice it. And so you have to practice social interactions. You have to practice romantic interactions because the first time you try it,

And it's not going to be the love of your life, the best friend, you all that. Like, it's not serendipitous like that. So I think you got to put yourself out there in, I don't know, make like make like a list of like, things to do, like, and do at least like three a week, being like, okay, on the weekend, I am going to sign up for a class that is like at least 15 minutes away in this other city or whatever. I am going to look to see if there's any like outdoor music festivals I'm going to see if there's any like you know uh like a women's hiking group that I would I'm just going to try all these things and you don't have to commit to do them all the time but just like making a list of like okay I did these two things or even just like I'm going to download a dating app and like talk to some people something that gets you back into like the habit of it because when you haven't put yourself out there the longer you the longer you wait the more daunting it feels yeah i literally will just sign up for things and go to them by myself i don't care um and i meet people there um

melissa has a new friend every fucking month every goddamn fucking month melissa was like oh me and my friend ashley and i go new friend i'm sorry who's the new because you're like i already know Ashley she's not a new friend but no different friend and you're like oh no I have a new new friend and I'm like oh my god okay how can I keep up yeah and even that was an introduction from Samantha so it was a friend introduction my favorite introductions so like just and then you know with Ashley she's um in my sorority and I started going to sorority meetings again and I've met people there but like you don't have to necessarily be in a join a sorority or be in a sorority but you can meet new people through new people you can also just go places i like i i saw

that there was like a silver smithing where you make jewelry out of silver i might go sign up for that it looked interesting it's not close guess where it is pasadena no the opposite direction no venice don't tell me it's farther redondo hermosa keep going manhattan keep going san diego not that far we talked about hating driving there last week long beach yes but here's the other thing i also low-key love long beach right it's just that bridge that you have to go over that's scary as hell damn yeah hey we go to the aquarium though yeah and the restoration hardware outlet. Get out there. Let's dance. Right. Like, look, I keep saying the library because the library is free. They also have events and they also host things like sewing classes, things like

that. And also open yourself up to rekindle friendships or like relationships. Like I literally have on my to do list to like reach out to a girl I was friends with in middle school and high school who i know who like lives in la but even like at this wedding i just went to like we've made plans uh to like hang out with people who like i've known i i met within like the first year of dating moths but like we didn't we're never like friend friends and like but it's like oh my gosh like let's hang out like let's whatever and it's like oh my god yeah i do really i i vibe with you i like you but we are different places in our life we were whatever and now it's like oh no i would really enjoy hanging out with you and like being friends separate from this relationship

that i know you through my partner so like there's just there's just so many different ways and even if like again the first one doesn't doesn't hit it makes the rest of them a little less scary so you can do it you just gotta gotta get out there and you just have to hook up with people um who have their own place just don't bring them don't don't bring them home don't bring them home until you you're ready to get your own place maybe your own place isn't in your small town It's a good point. I wanted to share that my husband and I have just now decided to take advice of purposely limiting interactions with my sister-in-law.

This is the one they called the baby ugly. Also, I'm sorry, we gave you that advice in July, and now it is January. You said we've actually finally decided to take your advice. Like me, she is also married into the same family. My husband does feel less of a connection to her for that reason alone. For the first time ever,

my husband recently took our oldest daughter without me to see my sister and brother-in-law for a belated birthday gathering that was rescheduled to a day I conveniently had plans with my friends on. Oh, funny how that happens. I have data from October through December. In October, we saw each other. You have data. In October, we saw each other and it was totally cordial. In November, we saw each other two days in a row and the second day got weird. In December, We saw each other five times and by the last time it was really challenging My husband's actual sister and her husband were also exasperated by our sister-in-law's behavior by that point, too

There also are so many stories from the month of december But something that bothers me is considering she and her husband are very germ conscious with their kids I tell them about any and all recent symptoms coming from my family before we meet up but my niece showed me her quote oh no oh my god melissa's face everyone watch the video version i've never seen you make that face reading something on this on this show but my niece showed me her quote little bit of ringworm no one warned us about it was contained under her clothing but had i known about it i would have taken better precautions to reduce the chances of my family catching it i love when kids just rat you out yes this is definitely not the first

time respectful boundaries and communication have not been reciprocated for multiple reasons we're sticking with monthly interactions the ringworm thing is so irresponsible of all of the things like as someone who like i get very annoyed when people like don't like i love when people like overly disclose like hey my like hairstylist will be like hey my uh daughter had like a you know a runny nose like the last two days i don't know if it's gonna get any worse we can totally reschedule not gonna charge me to reschedule like really being amplified or even being like hey i had strep last week i'm on i'm finishing my antibiotics shouldn't be contagious anymore i have two days left if you want to reschedule totally fine like i love people who

who do that it's one thing when parents are like you know they always have a running nose they're they're in school now that's just what happens kids are always kids always have a little bit of snot then there's things like ringworm and lice when i go that's not a oh that you know we all just have that at some point i'm like that is that's that's not that that is like a hey uh they shut down the the soft play and they have to sanitize that's like a hat they've got to like you've contaminated like you can't take your kid there it's the same thing when they had um oh my god i forget what it was but that woman who brought her kid to disney and like was complaining about i don't know her kid had i keep wanting to say something which impetigo i kept

wanting to say vitiligo and i was like it's not vitiligo yeah i was gonna say vitiligo okay yeah no i was like whatever go for it but it's the impetigo that's mixing me up yeah and so like fungal like that is that's grotesque you know it's grotesque and i expect i expect better from from women who have to deal with itchy bacterial and fungal infections that have that are like random that have like no cause of our own or like life or whatever and to then have one that is like one of the one of the few that's like preventable in whether it's contact anything like that just to be like whatever but i gotta say i do love when kids because they'll always do that thank like thank you yeah they'll be like yeah i haven't gone to school in a week

i'm really sick and it's like oh no one told me that yeah i have a fever oh it's like okay thank you for sharing yeah thank you hi good seeing you incredibly honest you want to see my ringworm nope i can't and the kid that knows that it's called ringworm i'm so afraid of that me too anything with worms i haven't really heightened that for me well i mean you didn't need much to get to a heightened sense of fear of of you know any any germ related thing but like to me when you have the word worm in it i'm out when you when the description of the thing creates a visual in my head i just think of worms underneath your skin moving around yep yep yep yep exactly that's how i feel about pin
